#i’m still trying to get 2 tix for me and my best friend

I need some advice. I recently was broken up with and I'm reeling from it. We met when i was 19 and he was 32 and we ended up hooking up 6 years ago. He didn't tell me until after we hooked up that he had a wife which started a crazy feud, but he eventually divorced his wife and convinced me to be in a relationship with him. The relationship was pretty rocky at first because he was very emotionally abusive. Like he would constantly reprimand me for doing the wrong thing and saying the wrong thing and would lecture me for hours and not let me sleep until I agreed with him. I used to live with him sometimes because my mom got evicted and i couldn't hold down a stable job because I had an untreated learning disability and he would pick fights with me every day when I would say/ do the wrong thing and sometimes he would even kick me out.

While he did all this its v confusing bc he was also very good to me at the same time?? He helped me out when I was evicted and let me live rent free with him. He helped me get my diagnosis and helped me look for a job. He helped me get over some of my insecurities and would urge me to go to therapy and helped me get my driver's license. The last 2 years he started becoming more spiritual and became a lot nicer to me (He would still reprimand me but not as often) and urged me to do yoga and meditation. He started getting serious and during that time he was throwing ideas around of leaving everything behind and going to a yoga center etc. I was so drained atp from the constant mistreatment and feeling like I wasn't a priority so I went outside the relationship to explore my options. i met a guy that I was going to meet for dinner and just talk to, but I was drugged and assaulted. I felt so guilty that I told my boyfriend and he broke up with me. This was a year ago. Since then, we've been on and off because he would come back but couldn't commit because he couldnt trust me. Early this year he moved to a different state and he reached out to me to ask if I wanted to visit him out there in the summer. I was cautious but I agreed because I missed him. We started calling and texting every day and he started hinting that he wanted a relationship with me again. I started catching feelings again and was grateful for the opportunity to make things right because I fucked up. I bought the plane tickets and two days after I bought them he told me that he was getting women flirting with him out there and that he wanted to explore his options. I was so upset and I asked him why we couldnt work things out, he told me he still couldnt trust me after what happened. He told me it's best if I get a refund on the tix and just stay home. I felt so crushed, I felt like I was lead on and I feel so ashamed and guilty over what I did. The worst part is I felt like I ruined everything and it's my fault that the relationship ended the way it did. What do I do???? I have no friends and no one to talk to.

I’m sorry you feel like you have no friends and no one to talk to, I’ve been there many times myself. I think putting aside any feelings you have about your breakup/ex, you should try to focus on what would make you feel better right now. And I think that would be making a friend and giving your brain a break from analyzing what happened with your ex and trying to solve it. It sounds like you’ve been stuck in a spiral of negative thinking and blaming yourself, and honestly the only way to get out of that spiral in my experience is to change how you’re thinking and living your life. Small changes are best. Choose to join a group you’re interested in, try to make a friend. You can hangout and just talk about silly inconsequential stuff. You can try new restaurants together or go see a movie. Or you can do those things by yourself if you want. I often go to the beach and just walk around taking pictures by myself. I’ll spend the whole afternoon there and I don’t feel anxious at all. Sometimes it’s the only break I get from my anxiety. And a little break is much better than no break at all. I can’t fix how you’re feeling (I wish I could) but I can tell you that it’s normal to feel how you do, it’s okay to be confused, it’s okay to miss him, it’s okay to feel alone. Just allow yourself to feel it, then allow yourself to not feel it for a little while too. If you overwhelm yourself with these thoughts all the time, you’ll be stagnant. You need to live in the present if you want to move forward. Your body needs to process the trauma of this relationship, because it sounds like this relationship was absolutely traumatizing for you. I have been in several abusive/traumatizing relationships with men and every single time I blamed myself. Even when they hit me and sexually violated me, I was still the one who ended up apologizing. I was always the problem to these men. There was no other scenario. I would always be the bad guy to them, and I felt like that said something about me rather than them. I didn’t realize how much I hated these men until many years later. I was so used to being blamed and apologizing that I couldn’t even understand that it wasn’t shame and regret I was feeling, it was anger, rage, fury. I can’t speak to your ex’s character but I can tell you that positive, healthy relationships do not end with one person feeling like they’re to blame for everything and being overwhelmed with feelings of confusion and regret. It’s possible to find love that is easy and effortless. That kind of love won’t leave your head hurting and searching for a fix. You’ll feel calm and safe. I hope you’ll be gentle with yourself as you detox from this relationship. I think making a friend or just spending some me time doing something relaxing like photography or learning an instrument or painting could make a really positive change in your life. Meet Your Makers: Michael Hingston

If you’re a collector of beautiful books and ephemera, you’ve likely heard of Michael Hingston. If not, you’re in for a treat. He’s half the team at Hingston & Olsen Publishing, an independent press known and loved for its Edmontonia Trading Cards, Short Story Advent Calendar, and deluxe boxsets. Finding stories and giving them a permanent home is Michael’s passion. As you’re about to discover, so is writing, reading, collecting, and being a big stubborn believer in paper books. Meet this week’s maker, Michael Hingston.

TIX: We’re taught to believe it’s what’s inside that counts, but it’s impossible to ignore the beauty of your books and boxsets. Tell us about your decision to not only publish books but also celebrate them as art.

M.H.: Well, thank you! When Natalie (my co-publisher) and I decided to form Hingston & Olsen, in 2015, one of the first things we agreed on was that our books would be beautiful objects in their own right. At the time it seemed like everyone was panicking about the future of publishing in the age of e-books. We decided to double down on the qualities that you can only get from physical books: the tactile feel of paper, pops of colour, and an interactive presentation that you just can’t replicate on a tablet. It’s a better reading experience, not to mention a better deal for our readers in the long term. Ten years from now you probably won’t have access to an e-book you bought today, but every book on your bookshelves will still open up like it always did.

TIX: Which of your strengths (or experiences) as a writer have helped you succeed as a publisher?

M.H.: I’d say it comes down to empathy. Publishing is an act of faith between writer and publisher, and understanding the creative process—with all its up and downs—gives me an extra level of appreciation for the work that our writers entrust us with. That’s not something we take lightly. All of our editorial and design choices are made with the goal of presenting the text in the best light possible. I want writers to love working with us, and to feel that their work is in good hands.

TIX: What’s the first thing you wrote that inspired your career path?

M.H.: That’s a great question. The truth is I didn’t start reading or writing seriously until I was in university and fell in with the student newspaper there. I remember my first few production nights—which routinely kept us in the office until past midnight—where I would frantically write something on deadline, then look at it in print the following week and think, “Huh, that’s actually not bad.” Then we had to do it all over again for the next issue, which was a big part of the charm.

TIX: Tell us about your Edmontonia Trading Cards and what inspired the idea.

M.H.: The Edmontonia Trading Cards are a set of all-ages collectible trading cards that showcase this odd, charming, mostly frozen city of ours. Each card features original artwork

from one of 12 different local artists on the front, and an entertaining and informative write-up about that subject—from landmarks to urban wildlife to the four phases of West Edmonton Mall—on the back. They come in randomized packs of 8, and there are 60 total cards to collect. You can get them at independent shops around the city, or from our website (edmontonia.ca).

The idea for the cards was two-fold: (1) Thinking how cool it would be to make a set of non-sports-related trading cards, and (2) Figuring out what to do with all these odd little stories I was gathering about my adopted home. When I first moved to Edmonton, back in 2008, I kept having all these questions about what I was seeing. Like, why do all these buildings look like pyramids? What’s the deal with magpies? Sure, it’s cold, but what’s the coldest it’s ever been? As soon as those two ideas merged, I got to work, and I’m really proud of how it all turned out.

TIX: Your projects all seem to celebrate reading as an experience—combining the physical act of opening a beautiful “gift” with the pleasures of reading. What was the inspiration for that equation?

M.H.: The age of paper being the default vehicle for communication is gone. Digital technology is way more convenient, and also generates less clutter in people’s lives. But that doesn’t mean paper has no function. As mentioned above, I’m a big, stubborn believer in paper books—and I think one of the things they do exceptionally well is ground the reader in a particular time and place, having a particular experience. Throwing in extra layers, like the element of surprise in the Short Story Advent Calendar or opening a pack of random Edmontonia cards, just makes that experience a little more fun.

TIX: Far too often, the conversations around print publishing are centered around worry for it and what’s being lost. What excites you about the future of print publishing and your role in shaping it?

M.H.: As more of our lives go digital, the funny thing is that people actually become hungrier for offline entertainment. (Have you seen the internet joke about spending all day at work looking at the bad screen, then coming home to look at the good screen? I hate how much I relate to it.) We all want to unplug, or at least to stop doomscrolling for a while. This is a big opportunity for print! It’s one of the few modes of entertainment we have that doesn’t require electricity. That’s one reason H&O doesn’t do e-books. We want to give people a different experience, because we believe there’s value in it.

TIX: Your books and advent calendars have become a favourite gift to receive. What’s a favourite book you’ve been given (and who gave it to you)?

M.H.: I love books about books, and two of the chunkiest and most beloved ones on my shelves were gifts: John Sutherland’s Lives of the Novelists, given to me by my friend Jeremy before he moved away (he’s actually since moved back; hopefully he doesn’t want the book returned, too), and Michael Schmidt’s The Novel: A Biography, which was a Christmas present from my brother.

TIX: You’ve said that the retirement of your Advent Series has freed you up to work on some exciting new ideas. Can you tell us a little about them?

M.H.: We try to keep a pretty tight lid on things at H&O, but I can tell you we’re planning to release more titles in 2021 than we ever have in a given year before. That’ll include something new for the holidays, as well as our first-ever standalone novel.

Pandemic Mental Health Check In

How is everyone holding up? 

I mean...I could be doing worse? I still have my job and I didn’t get a pay cut. Hubs wasn’t so lucky (travel baseball took a hit this year). But we’re making do with what we got. I actually ended up $3k ahead and am now holding steady. I attribute this to several factors: 1) with WFH I stopped commuting an hour/50 miles a day, 2) all my April travel expenses were refunded, including train, plane, and American Buffalo tix, 3) doing online grocery shopping/pickup keeps you from “shopping hungry” and food waste, and 4) the stimulus. That all came in handy when we suddenly needed truck repairs and a plumber for a water leak.

What are you doing to keep healthy?

Brain health...crosswords and word searches. Physical health...just try to keep moving and get outside a few moments a day. Nutrition...fewer sodas, more sparkling waters (I really like the AHA brand peach-honey flavor), obviously less eating out overall. Mental health...ugh putting my GOP relatives to 30 day sleep on Facebook.

Are you working, not working, working from home?

I work from home most days. I do go in a couple of hours a week (honestly just so the boss can tell her bosses that we’re all coming in a little). Mainly because my bandwidth isn’t the best for teaching visual workshops with slides and database demos, I go in to teach online when warranted.

Anyone caring for kids or elders?

I check in on my 80-year-old parents as much as I can. They live an hour-and-a-half away. And my husband goes up to do harder chores for HIS 80-y.o. mom, who is 45 minutes away.

What was your best/worst day?

My worst was early on, when we were so paranoid about the virus that we seriously talked about sleeping in separate bedrooms for two weeks. I’m a VERY tactile person and I basically had a meltdown. Hubs tossed a comforter over me to hug me. Best? Um... I guess when we got projects completed, like finally getting bookcases built or putting privacy frost on our front door glass.

What inspires you?

Honestly it’s hard finding inspiration these days (at least as a fanfic writer, why my output is *phhbbt*). Sometimes a Tweet or a prompt on this here site.

Are you taking up hobbies?

I started doing crosswords...the L.A. Times has them for free. I cook more. Does coloring your hair count as a hobby? OH and my husband found an orphan baby possum on our carport floor in June and we’ve been raising him since...we’re set to release him back into the wild soon (honestly probably should have last month).

What kind of content helps keep the joy on your dash?

Glee, music, cute animals, new fic.

Has life gone back to “normal” where you are?

Well, they’re trying. Students are back but the few times I’m on campus it feels like intersession. Too many exposed noses over masks, though no one has all-out started a riot over being forced to wear one (yet). Football is back and we suck, so that’s pretty normal. But numbers are climbing back up... :(

What are you doing for fun?

I like reality competition talent shows, so I’m glad The Voice, Masked Singer, and Dancing With The Stars are back! Did I mention the possum? But really I miss travel. I got bit by the travel bug when I went to my first library conference, then started trips just to see friends, Broadway, and now I’m lucky just to go to my parents’ or MIL’s houses. I actually can’t wait to be in a plane with my ears popping and eating Biscoff cookies with the little Delta logo again (I’ll just stuff them in my mask and eat them like a chipmunk)...

It was the afternoon when you had just gotten out from the shower after coming from the gym. You were in comfy clothes as you went to the backyard to fire up the grill, Jules was coming over to have dinner with you.

Chris and you had been texting here and there, yet hadn’t hung out alone, it was either you two with Scott and Jules, your work schedule was picking up as the season was coming in a few weeks and he hadn’t exactly asked you to hang out, you however knew you had a huge crush on Chris.

Jules had gone to the store to get the ingredients letting you take a quick shower. You were drinking a glass of wine when your phone started ringing, it was Chris. “Hey Chris, how are you?” “uHmmm I’m outside your house” he replied. “Ohhh okay give me a sec I’m in the backyard” you said as you headed to the front door. You opened it to see Scott and him there, “HEY! What are you guys doing here? Come on in!” you said. “Well, we were in the neighborhood so thought we’d stop by” Chris replied. You guys went to your backyard, “have you guys ate yet?” “No but we’re okay” “no NO stay, I’m starting up the grill Jules is coming with the food in a bit” you said and they agreed. You gave them beers and called Jules, “Hey, Chris and Scott are here can you bring more please”, “Yeah yeah of course” he said. “Cool thanks see you in a bit, love ya” you said and hung up.

“So how are y’all doing?” you asked as you sat on the couch. 

“Good, good, we were driving by and I told Chris we should pay you a visit, you?” replied Scott.

“I’m good! Work is picking up but I’m good too, are you guys excited for the season?” 

“Yeah, hopefully we can come to a game to just watch too” added Chris, “Well you guys are more than welcome to come to games, I know a gal” you winked, “plus I can hook you guys up with some Pats tix, I know a guy” you teased.

“Honestly though, what’s the story on you and Julian?” Scott asked, causing Chris to shove him a bit. You and Scott had become good friends too so you knew he wasn’t meaning anything bad about it.

“Oh my gosh haha, okay well we met when I moved here from California, Jules was interested in me and so was I but I wasn’t about to screw up my career over it, when I left the Pats we finally went on a few dates but we kind of just figured we’d be better off as friends, I know we seem to act like there’s more but he’s definitely one of my best friends now” you explained.

“So no other guy for you?” asked Scott

“Well except me of course!” yelled Jules as he came into the backyard with food, “trying to figure out why she’s single huh?” he added.

“Well yeah she’s gorgeous but I thought you two were a thing” Scott said

“Ohhh well we were but we’re better off as friends” Jules added, “I think we get along great too though because we’re both from California”

“So what’s your type?” asked Scott causing you to blush. *cough* Chris *cough* said Jules, causing you too peer at him. “Uhmmm I don’t really have a type but someone who’s funny, open minded and understands my schedule which by the way Jules I told them you can get them in” you said, “I don’t know I haven’t really had anyone ask me out” you said.

“Bullshit what about that cop that’s been asking you out at the gym?” replied Jules. “Really Jules, I dated a cop and I said I’d never again, plus he only wants me because I won’t sleep with him.” you said. “No you’re just scared” he said, “I’m sorry you know my dating experiences though plus you’re part of it” you chuckled, Jules acted hurt by grabbing his chest.

“Can we stop about my dating life, it’s a mess” you said laughing. “More like non-existent” whispered Jules, you threw a pillow at him. “OKAY I’m going to start cookin” said Jules as he got up towards the grill. “I’m throwing in some cookies in the kitchen then“ you said as you headed inside. You were placing the cookie dough when you saw Chris walk in, you thought he was going to tell you something but, “hey can I use your bathroom please?” he asked instead. “Yeah it’s down the hall to the right”. Little did you know Chris was in the bathroom trying to motivate himself to ask you out.

“Hey can I ask you something?” he said when he came back, “yeah what’s up?”, “Uhmm you know we’ve know each other for a bit but I wanted to see if you wanted to hang out with me, but like a date?” he asked nervous, which he made him looked adorable. You blushed and smiled, “I would like that”. “Really?! Great uhmm how about this Friday?” “I’ll be getting out late if you don’t mind”, “Its okay I don’t mind, I mean we can even just go get ice cream if you end up coming out too late”, “That’s perfect, I’ll let you know but Friday for sure.” Chris was smiling to himself as he helped you put the rest of the cookies in the oven.

When the two of you went back outside Scott and Jules were staring at you twp smirking. “What” Chris and you said at the same time. “Ohh nothing nothing” said Scott as he took a sip of his beer.

You and Chris sat next to each other for dinner and you can see him still smiling to himself. You were excited for Friday but nervous at the same time.

3. favorite musical artist / group you started listening to this year? sure sure, for sure B^) their last album was great and i’m getting tix to their show for christmas, which will be a lot of fun

4. movie of the year? detective pikachu was super wholesome! i also don’t remember anything else i saw lmaoooo

8. game of the year? since i’m trying to pick things that were released this year i guess my choice would be smash ultimate by default, even though i wouldn’t say it defines my taste overall? i never buy games at release tbh, hype is less important than how well they withstand the test of time.

9. best month for you this year? april was a good month, though the beginning of the end, in a way.

10. something that made you cry this year? well officially, truly, no holds barred Coming Out was uhhhhhhh hard

11. something you want to do again next year? alternative spring break! spending a week volunteering was a transformative experience. i wrote pages and pages in my journal about it.

12. talk about a new friend you made this year i’m gonna talk about all of the new friends i’ve made in my office! they welcomed me into conversations from the start and lucky for them, i fit in instantly. (i like to say they should be glad they aren’t stuck with a front desk worker who doesn’t have stage 50 internet brain poisoning 😂) i love how we all Get each other’s sense of humor, but know when to self-regulate or take others’ needs seriously. we all kind of have our own niche interests but you never get a funny look for bringing Your Shit up. i’m very lucky to have just walked right into somewhere i feel meant to be (especially compared to SG lmfaooo, they’re full of jerks)

13. how was your birthday this year? well it was in the middle of exams week and then i got a KIDNEY INFECTION like a couple days after!!!! so cool i guess cuz i turned 21 but otherwise kind of a tragedy?

14. favorite book you read this year? i don’t know how to read

15. what’s a bad habit you picked up this year? ugh just.... procrastination on life in general turned up to 100 😖 hard to be in tune with things if they’re entirely uninteresting and the Same Old Thing ad nauseum

16 and 17: pictures from the beginning and end of year i take a pic on my laptop’s webcam whenever i change my hair (i don’t know why i do this?) so i can actually answer this one from my computer!

19. what are you excited about for next year? being in a musical! and stage directing the kids’ show again!!

20. what’s something you learned this year? i’d say i’m still working on it, but not being unhappy for the sake of others’ comfort. working past the anxiousness of telling the truth when it’s hard, or speaking up about things i need or want. ya know. that kind of thing. it’s tough.

21. what’s something new about your place of residence (room, home, or general location) now vs the start of the year? we started the year with 3 cats and temporarily, we’re gonna end it with 6 😨 (our neighbor is most likely going to adopt her, but she’ll be in our house for a while.)

22. favorite place you visited this year? a small town in indiana, for spring break. even the drive back was memorable. it was this weird shift in perspective, going down the main roads and seeing slices of how things once were interspersed with how they are now. you’ll see a tiny, decrepit farm house sandwiched between a state of the art mcdonald’s and a tiny, decrepit auto shop. i used to give the cities i spend the most time in some kind of special merit, but it turns out that uniquely tired and midwest feeling doesn’t really start or stop at a certain place after all.

23. if you could send a message to yourself back on the first day of the year, what would it be? the first half of the year will be great! the second will be terrible! that is, until you take some steps that are long overdue - which you will take, because this year is all about change. you’ll get a really good therapist and she’ll tell you “don't expect life to ever be comfortable.” ironically enough, it’ll be comforting, as you now know what to expect.

24. did you keep any new year’s resolutions? one of them was “become a better communicator” which is a work in progress. another was “get a second tattoo” and that did happen 100% ;^)

25. did you create any characters (in games, art, or writing) this year? describe one. ohhhh i did! one of them i never got to use because let’s face it, i don’t have it in me to write the story i want to write in the middle of exam crunch time. he would have been a little kid, still nameless, who essentially would look like a tiny paperboy (think a double breasted coat, nice hat...) my main character would encounter him randomly irl, thinking that he looked familiar but never doing anything about it. that’s because the boy would show up in the MC’s dreams and communicate... fateful events. perhaps i’ll turn it into something real one day. ;)

1. What did you do in 2017 that you’d never done before? i’ll try to do this chronologically again: so at the beginning of january one of my best friends left to study abroad in rome which was sad and i missed her a lot. i saw rory scovel do stand up. i took an animation class which was fun for the first few weeks until i failed it lmao. actually my classes from jan to march did not go so well tbh but whatever i made it through. my sister came to visit me the weekend before st paddys day which was super fun and then we saw panic which was soooooooo fuckin rad i love them still wow! i went home for spring break and visited a local winery w my dad which was a lot of fun and then a week later uhhh me and @carrot-gallery became gfs!!! and my whole frickin life changed bc i love her so much wow!! but then a week after that i turned 22 and spent my birthday alone! which i tried to pretend didnt make me sad but by the end of the day i was very sad about it and thats when my sweet gf called me to sing happy birthday and i sobbed on my couch and ill never forget that!!! so okay then spring quarter classes started and i was a part of depaul’s visiting artist series which was super cool... i met a lot of new awesome people (both at depaul and the industry ppl that were our guests!) and made some great friends in that class! i was a house manager and camera op which was super fun. i went to a screening of my fave professor’s short film which was also rad. i saw a ghost story at the chicago critics film festival, which was amazing. i saw idiocracy in 35mm and then mike judge did a q&a! the very next day i was house manager for depaul’s student film festival at the music box! i saw chris gethard do a live recording of beautiful/anonymous and then also do some standup, that was awesome. i saw day wave live!!! amazing! i spent an entire dystopian day dealing with megabus. that was hell! i sat at an outdoor amphitheater and even tho i couldnt really see him i got to listen to seu jorge sing david bowie covers and life was magical for a few hours. my sisters came up to visit me and we saw aladdin the musical and had our minds blown, it was soooo fun! i went to the chicago pride parade for the very first time but i went by myself and at one point i was sitting on the curb just crying! not a high point but still memorable. i won a ticket to an advanced screening of the big sick where kumail & emily were there to do a q&a after the movie.... had a fuckin blast OBVIOUSLY and then saw the movie 9 other times in various theatres. i also made it into a commercial FOR the movie i just loved it that much lmao! i moved into a new (and my current) apartment! lorde released melodrama and fucking murdered me in my own home. otherwise i had a pretty uneventful but anxiety filled summer bc of financial aid stuff so that really sucked. i saw good time w taylor and the safdie brothers were there to do a q&a and they were such interesting guys i could listen to them talk for hours honestly. my mom and sisters came up to visit me and we took our mom to her very first cubs game which was sooo so much fun and they won that day too!! it was awesome and we had a great time :) watched the eclipse (or tried to anyway!!) fall quarter classes started and i honestly kicked ass at them, i got on the deans list (i almost typed honor roll lmao i mean its basically the same) i hung out with ari again which was cool!! we went to the aquarium! me and taylor saw beach fossils which was honestly the most buckwild concert ive ever been to i think, it was good shit. i got jobs at AMC (which i have since quit lmao) and starbucks and left my job at the paint place which was bittersweet! me and taylor saw mbmbam live!!! so fun!! and we watched trolls that night and goofed on it so hard!! i went home for thanksgiving and found out my big sister is gonna have a baby this year!! :D i saw mike birbiglia do stand up! which was soooo incredible of course (except i felt bad bc my mom was supposed to come w me but she couldnt go! so i brought taylor lol) UMMMMM MY DAM GIRLFRIEND CAME TO CHICAGO TO VISIT ME AND STAYED FOR A WHOLE DANG WEEK AND IT WAS THE BEST THING EVER SHE MAKES ME SO HAPPY WE HAD SO MUCH FUN AND I MISS HAVING HER RIGHT NEXT TO ME EVERY SINGLE GOSH DANG DAY <3 ;_____; and that was my year!!

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year? last year i said id like to read at least one book each month and watch at least 100 movies - i did neither! im keeping the movie resolution though bc cmon 100 movies should be EASY for a film major wtf am i doing!

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? no but it will happen in 2018!

Tix to NY

i officially purchased my tickets to NY last night! my flight will be late september. having this to look forward to makes the distance more manageable. i realized i was feeling sad over the weekend when i last blogged because my friend s, whom i hang out with multiple days of the week and text daily, was gone on a trip to portland/seattle. when she came back i felt content haha. essentially it was hard being away from both my boyfriend AND my “girlfriend”. 

when i spoke to matt over the phone yesterday, i told him how much i liked/got along with this teochew girl at work. we actually text outside of work and seem to genuinely show interest in each other. our interactions are mellow/slow paced. she’s quiet as well so i don’t feel the need to keep talking or try to keep the conversation going. i can see myself hanging out with her outside of work. I realized in my two years of being in that department, she’s the first person i felt a real connection with (that’s mutual). i felt like i was “dating” for friends all this time and was more or less ‘one foot in one foot out’/a flaky friend because i didn’t care for their company that much. i learned to get along with the people i hang out with now, but our connection i feel is still pretty shallow- like if i leave my job, i probably would lose touch with them. when i think about the possibility of matt finding someone else (i’ve read about doctors hooking up/having relationships in the hospitals due to high stress environment) and see so many attractive girls around me, it’s easy to think that he can have just anyone. from my experience “dating” for friends at work, authentic friends are hard to come by. i’ve been eating with the same two girls for over a year, and yet i feel closer/more connected to this teochew girl i’ve only known for about a month. not sure if i am speaking too early, but in the dating world, i would call her “the one” LOL. 

anyway, i sent a screenshot of my ticket confirmation while he was asleep saying “i’m going to see my best friend”. it still feels weird to call him boyfriend (to his face, not to others). today on my drive home, we talked on the phone per usual for like an hour 20 min or so, the duration of my commute, but didn’t mention me going to NY. he then facetimed me after he showered. right before he was gonna go to sleep, he said “thank you for buying the tickets to come see me.” in a very genuine and grateful way. i said “of course i was gonna come see you.” he then said thank you for being awesome. thank you for being supportive. thank you for being a cutie pie. etc 

our trip to iceland/london in november was put on the backburner a little. i found tickets for about decent price of ~600 and told him we can purchase whenever. these past two weeks, he was a little hesitant and asked to wait to purchase tickets. he was held back because he’s stressing about the reapplication process for his PGY-2 year (not guaranteed). he’s unsure if he wants to go through the match process again (will have to repeat his intern year if so, but higher chances/safer route) or try to email programs (won’t have to repeat intern year, but may not get into any programs and end up with another gap year). and november is interviewing season... i told him- we don’t have to go abroad, we can stay in the US for a vacation. in case he has to schedule an interview during his vacation time. after he was thanking me, he got out his amex platinum card and sent me all the details along with his passport and traveler ID so i can purchase the tix. we agreed to put it on his platinum because there’s more wiggle room/better customer service and benefits in case we will need to modify or cancel plans. i was pretty surprised and impressed at how proactive he was today- and it was right before he was gonna sleep. i think he felt touched and more secure in our relationship after i booked the flight. he then felt our relationship and making memories together was more important than the POSSIBILITY of having to schedule interviews. this is just me speculating but i appreciated the words and gestures from him today. :)

Hi everyone! We know it’s been such a long time since we’ve posted anything besides asks, so we first want to thank you all for your patience and understanding! We’re not too sure why, but life has been kicking both of our butts simultaneously for quite some time now. Also, sorry it’s taken so long for me to do this. I’ve been hit hard with post-concert depression and I’m still quite busy. I also needed some time to collect all of the memories that have been slowly coming back to me. Good news is that our boys had a fan meet and I (dayounggie) was lucky enough to nab a ticket for the Saturday one. Unfortunately, since I work late hours, I was unable to even attempt to get tix for the Friday meeting, but luckily and LOTS of stress later, I managed to get a ticket for Saturday. I was really bummed out to miss out on L-soonie and the ladder game to pick the next member for the v app show, but the Saturday rally had its own perks!

My Saturday started at 5am when I woke up to wait in line for goods... by myself. I really wished that ohmangotango was here to wait out in the cold with me, but I guess I don’t really wish that upon anyone. Either way, I thought I went there thoroughly prepared with all the essentials but I was still freezing my butt off. Finally, it was time to get goods... but of course, life just likes to dump on me and the one item that I really wanted and braved hours of cold for sold out... literally by the person in front of me. I was going to cry. But at least I knew the boys and their love would be worth it. I was only worried about other fans in standing. Oh yes, I forgot to mention, the only ticket I could find was in Standing C. I was quite worried about having to stand and deal with the inevitable pushing in standing... esp since it’s a fanmeet and there would be lots of movement.

So after a well deserved nap at home, I went back out to the venue. When we finally got in, the screen played mvs as always but also told us to send in a selca for a surprise. It’s not really a surprise cause they did it at the last rally too. But if you send in a selca, during the last song, they choose a few to go up on the screens in the bg. Fast forward to the end, they didn’t choose my pic ㅠㅠ Even though I didn’t have the best number, I got a really good place by standing behind this guard who was letting people in. So, I was along the back rail where it’s a little raised and I had something to lean on. In general, I had a fantastic time. My section was super chill and not stuffed-packed, so there wasn’t a need to push or sway. Everyone just kinda kept to themselves and were very nice and polite and talked to each other and stuff. The girls standing in front of me staggered so I could see between their heads and had a great view 99% of the time. I know I say this often, but Inspirit is the best. They really have no bad intentions. I think if there is any pushing, it’s cause there’s no room and you can’t help but sway with the crowd, or because they’re younger fans who are still a bit rude. Either way, it was the easiest standing experience I had, which was good cause it lasted 4 HOURS!! Ugh, gotta love our boys!

Finally, the fan meet started and the boys came out after a short vid recapping what they’ve been doing since the last fan meet 2 years ago. The boys came out and performed ‘Bad’ and Dongwoo performed the dance break but he didn’t do the normal dance. Instead, he went full energetic Dongwoo and started break dancing and doing all kinds of jump things off the floor and flipping all over the place lol. Excited Dongwoo is the best... but I guess he’s always excited. Then the boys went into their first ment. They introduced themselves but I don’t remember exactly what they said. I only remember Woohyun introducing himself as everyone’s heart. They also talked about Dongwoo’s dance break and he said he wanted to do something a little more special so that’s why he was all over the place. So they made him do it again. They asked for the music but Sunggyu insisted on doing it without the music so we could ‘properly take in’ his dance lol. He did it again and added a pelvic thrust while lying down as well. While they were talking about what they’ve been up to for the past 2 years, they got to Woohyun’s album and everyone started singing ‘Nod’. Hoya suddenly stopped us and told Dongwoo to do the dance break again while we sang ‘Nod’ lol. It was quite a strange sight but Dongwoo was a good sport lol. I remember Woohyun also mentioned that our singing got better and I felt so proud in that moment lol. They continued to talk about the past and talked about Minseok as well (for those who don’t know, Kim Minseok, the actor signed with Woollim/good friend to most of the members, was the MC). They talked a little about the jungle and Minseok was a really good MC. He was really involved in the ments and interacted with the crowd a lot, which made Woohyun really jealous, but we’ll get into that later.

Next they performed ‘Between Me & You’. Idk remember when, but they said the first half would be songs from the ‘Reality’ album and the second half would be songs from ‘INFINITE ONLY’ or something related to the promotions over the last 2 years. After that, they went into another ment. I think they were asked to pick a member for something but I couldn’t catch what it was for. Hearing the answers, I think it was for who’s the most different or who tries the hardest or something, and they chose Sungjong. They said it was because he always works hard on his gestures and wants to show a good side to the fans. Sungjong talked about how all the hyungs take pictures of him and upload it to their group chat but it makes him happy cause that just shows they care or something. So Sungyeol said that he’ll upload everything he’s taken of Sungjong on SNS lol. Then they talked about an episode that happened during the ‘Bad’ recording. The CEO wanted a true/false theme and that instead of the line ‘betting on you’, Sunggyu and Dongwoo recorded a bunch of different things like ‘true/false’, ‘truth or a lie’ and Dongwoo ended the recording by yelling ‘CEO nice~’ and they went into digression about how if the song concept was ‘CEO nice’ then they would’ve gotten #1 for like 30 weeks and it would’ve been popular at golf ranges and bowling alleys lol. Minseok talked about how the boys’ live perf is seriously the best and he hinted that as a music show host, he saw some groups who lip synced and stuff. Then somehow, we got Minseok to sing the chorus of ‘Typhoon’ and he was pretty good! He also mentioned that he really likes that song and throughout the fan meet he mentioned that he likes their music lol all the bromance love. Then V line started humble-bragging about how they all sound so good live as if they swallowed cds and that it sounds like the AR version. That led them to talk about how they sing with small variations so people know it’s not the AR version and one time at an end-of-the-year show, Woohyun exaggerated a note and his voice gave out and then the members teased him. He said the moral of the story was not to exaggerate. They also talked about a time it was early in the morning and Woohyun couldn’t hit a high note at rehearsal and it was embarrassing cause it was in front of other groups too lol. This led them to talk about their second world tour and how they would break up into different teams to go out and do things. They’d break into teams like Myungsoo, Sungyeol, Dongwoo together, Hoya, Sunggyu, Woohyun together and then there was a Sungjong team. Then they said that the Hoya, Sunggyu, Woohyun team went to a performance (I’m thinking this was when they went to see ‘Phantom of the Opera’ on Broadway in NYC) and they had 2 managers but the Sungjong team had 3 managers. They were pretty much teasing him for being high maintenance lol. He said that he doesn’t mind doing things with the members but since he sees them all the time, he just wanted to do his own thing. This also led them to talking in different languages. Woohyun said that Dongwoo was in charge of English and Dongwoo said he’s not that good but can say simple things like ‘What did you have for breakfast’ (or something similar). Then Woohyun, so very cutely, was like ‘Morning rice?’ lol it was adorbs. They said that Sungyeol specializes in Thai and Yeol busted some out and it was so cute. Gyu said something in Mandarin and Soo in Japanese. Jong was in charge of Korean and they said Hoya was in charge of Indonesian, and then Hoya mumbled nothingness into the mic lol. Dongwoo said something in English and Woohyun told him to ‘Sit down’ in English and when asked what he specialized in, Namu said he specialized in the fans lol. What a cutie pie. Then Minseok said something along the lines of I’ve finally grown accustomed to your cheesiness kinda thing lol. They even talked about airport fashion and I think they picked Jong as having the worst. They talked about a lot of other stuff too but I specifically remember Jong talking about how at one concert, I think a fan helped him remember it was in London, where he was standing where the the fireworks were supposed to come out but at the last minute, Yeol grabbed Jong and pulled him out of danger so he was really thankful for that. Ugh... my Yeol feels were on fire. Then they talked about how Sungjong was the hard carry for ‘Knowing Bros’ and they brought out a soccer ball. They talked about how it was so funny cause he wasn’t trying to be funny and was super serious about it. He really was trying to trap the ball with his chest but, in Woohyun’s words, kept getting hit in ‘weird places’ lol. So Woohyun said that Jong has been practicing or something and threw the ball for Jong again and Jong headed it again. That boy needs more practice I think. Then they talked about if they ever wanted to try their hand at a character or drama that another member was in. We all teased Yeol and Soo for some embarrassing moments. They moved onto talking about Gyu’s solo songs for a bit and the hard time Soo is having filming lately (because of the weather). At one point, Gyu asked Minseok to ask them a question he’s curious about. He said he had none because he knows everything lol. Then he asked the fans if they had anything and knelt down close to the edge of the stage to ask a fan. This is when I could literally see the lasers of jealousy shooting out of Woohyun’s eyes. He even said something like ‘Don’t look at our fans that way’ lol. They talked about who was looking forward to the fan meet the most. I think most chose themselves but Soo chose Woohyun and Dongwoo chose Jong. They also made Hoya do an acrostic poem for 무한대집회. It was pretty good as far as I remember but I don’t remember what he said exactly. It had something to do with not going home until the sun comes out. Then they wrapped up the ment and performed ‘Take Care of the Ending’.

After the song, the escape the room game vcr came up. The point was to win money by completing missions and the king gets to do something special at the fan meet. The first mission was getting 95 or higher on a karaoke machine within 20 minutes. They did ‘Come Back Again’ and didn’t get a high enough score so Sungjong sang ‘The Answer’ and Gyu got all mad that he was ‘ruining’ it lol. Then, with 3 mins left, Woohyun was like ‘get outta the way, I’ll get 100 points’ and sang ‘Nod’ and got 99 points so they passed the first mission. The second mission was to get a combined amount of 3000 using pedometers. But, the trick was that they would have different combos of addition and subtraction for each member to make it more difficult, like ‘head - left foot + right hand’. Because of the weird combos, the members looked extra silly. It was quite hilarious, just thinking about it makes me lol again. Yeol was extra cute and with the headband, the members said Gyu looked like So Ji Sub in ‘I’m Sorry, I Love You’ and called him Gyu Ji Sub. Sunggyu’s part was funny too and when it was Namu’s turn, Gyu was staring at him and Namu got all embarrassed and was like ‘What are you looking at?’ lol. They did really well so they went to the 3rd challenge which was eating super spicy ddukbokgi in 10 mins I think. They were making all kinds of panting sounds so I think Woohyun said that the video was getting too raunchy lol. They finished (mostly because Gyu kept feeding everything to Yeol) and so they went to the 4th mission. It was a game of charades, but each member had to act out 3 words and they had to get a total of 18 correct. This part led to some funny moments too with lots of disses from Gyu, but they ultimately failed this mission, so the money they got at the end lessened. To choose the king they all had to one shot a can of coke and not burp. Whoever doesn’t burp for the longest wins. In the end, Woohyun won after drinking like 3 cans of coke and they came back out and performed the Korean version of ‘D.N.A.’

After the song, they did another ment. I remember the fans were trying to get Minseok to dance a part of ‘D.N.A.’ and he did a little after Woohyun taught him a part, but he said he’s not a good dancer. They also talked about how the original title of the song was ‘Virus’ but that word has a bad meaning in Japan so they changed it. They also mentioned how it was originally supposed to be released in Korea but the lyrics didn’t sound as good cause of the chorus where Sunggyu sings ‘Stop. It.’ sounded kinda weird and it fit better in Japanese. Suddenly, Minseok asked if D.N.A. stood for something and they were all like, ‘...DNA...’ and he was like I know what DNA is, I just thought that it meant something cause of the periods between the letters lol. He said it could be ‘돌았나’ (a Busan accented way of saying ‘are you crazy’ that comes off kinda harsh to non-Busan people) so they were like ‘No and stop swearing, there are adolescents here’ lol. Then they talked about going to Busan and the food there and something about Gyu going there with Minseok.

Then they brought out a throne and crown with a spinning wheel to carry out missions. The member spins the wheel and has to carry out that action wherever the king tells him to go to. With the very first spin, Dongwoo ousted Woohyun as king and Woohyun was so devastated and adorable lol. He was like ‘I wasn’t even king for one minute!’ Then they carried out different missions. I don’t remember the order but I think Gyu gave some of his clothes to a fan, Dongwoo gave a fan this gold necklace and he even put it on for her and moved her hair out of the way (everyone swooned lol), Woohyun acted out a scene from ‘Goblin’ with a fan on the third floor (and he was so cute because he was talking while he was walking through the venue where we couldn’t see him and also when he left, he stopped by every single door on the third floor to peek out and wave at fans cause he’s the biggest sweetheart), Hoya took a selca with a fan, Sungyeol danced to ‘TT’ and also gave a fan his practice shorts (which the members all sniffed to make sure it wasn’t nasty lol), Myungsoo backhugged a fan, and Sungjong danced to ‘Chaser’ at 2x the speed and even picked a fan to dance with him on stage and she did a bang up job too (you go Glen Coco!).

Then they performed ‘Love of My Life’ and then showed an interview vcr. I don’t remember exactly what they said, but it was pretty much about how they feel and thanking people/fans. Then they sang ‘One Day’ and went into ments again. They talked about the ‘Typhoon’ promotions and Sungjong’s killing part (the part where he does the choking dance move) and Woohyun said that more than this part, he thought the ‘I realized’ part that Sungjong does was the killing part and he imitated it. Then fans made Sunggyu do the choking dance and at first he did it half-heartedly and Woohyun scolded him and made him do it seriously and OMG IT WAS GLORIOUS. My little heart still hasn’t recovered. Then we proceeded to make them all do it and Hoya acted like he didn’t want to but Yeol called him out and was like ‘You do it all the time in the waiting room, don’t act like you don’t wanna do it’ lol. Then at the end, we made Yeol do it and he was like ‘I’m gonna do it EXACTLY like Sungjong’ and his facial expressions were hilarious. We made Minseok do it too, he was such a good sport lol. I don’t remember if it was here or some other time, but Woohyun was like ‘He’s not even a member, why are you making him do it?’ and his jealousy was on full display imo! Then they were like there’s only one song left and everyone got super down and kept whining but Woohyun was like, even though it’s our last song, you guys are gonna chant ‘Come Back Again’ and we’re gonna pop out and you’re gonna be surprised right? So don’t be sad’ lol. They kept asking, ‘Should we do the last song now?’ and everyone was like ‘yeah..’ and so they kept talking longer and longer cause they felt bad. Then Minseok said his goodbyes and everyone chanted his name and the boys performed ‘Typhoon’.

Then we did the chant of course! It felt like forever omg my voice was dying. The lights went down and the May comeback teaser came on. Then they came out from the second floor doors and walked around the second floor area while performing ‘Nothing Better Than This’. They started doing their last ments and Sungjong was first. He ended his with his typical ‘Honey, dream of me!’ Then Dongwoo started his by saying that Gyu once said, ‘There are many Dongwoos in the world, but none of them are like you.’ Then it was Soo’s turn and there was an event prepared for his birthday. We were supposed to hold up a slogan that said ‘Happy Birthday Myungsoo’ when it was his turn during the last ment and we sang Happy Birthday to him. The boys were chanting for him to cry and he was like wth lol. They also mentioned how during rehearsal Yeol was like ‘Maybe the fans will do a bday event for you’ and Soo was like ‘Nahh, they prob won’t’ and they apologized for having no sense and not buying a cake to make a proper event. They said that they really thought he’d cry but he didn’t and they said it’s cause they don’t have the pianist noona playing heartwarming music in the bg (no band for the fan meet). He also said that it was very touching and he’ll remember it forever and there was an ‘I love you’ chant. At the end of his ment, the boys started a ‘Cry’ chant and when we stopped, this little boy that was in the second floor seats behind my section kept chanting when everyone was super quiet and it was adorable and we all laughed lol. Next was Sunggyu, he didn’t really say anything too important. Then it was Yeol’s turn and he apologized for the lack of help on their side for Soo’s event and said, ‘I’ll make sure to make Myungsoo cry later and upload it on SNS’ and they were like ‘What are you gonna do? Yell “CRY CRY” while hitting him?’ He said a few other things, then it was Hoya. Someone asked him to do the I say Ho you say Ya thing so we did that. He then said, ‘Sunggyu-hyung once said, there are many Hoyas in this world, but none like you.’ and Yeol said ‘but there’s that genius dog Hoya!’ (a dog that came out on TV for being really smart). Then he used that line again and said ‘there are lots of fans, but none like Inspirit’ and mentioned his Golden Disk speech again about how it’s hard to be their fan and how he’s always grateful. He mentioned (and later Gyu and other members kept mentioning) that they made a promise to keep on going together, so fans think they were hinting at the contract re-signing. Then as he was wrapping up, I think a fan was being escorted out by security, prob for filming with a camera, and the boys were like, please just let it go this time! And they even apologized in the fan’s stead. UGH THESE BOYS! CAN THEY GET ANYMORE PERFECT? The right answer is yes. They apparently can... Then it was Namu’s turn and there was a part where he was talking about enjoying life and not living with too much haste and a fan yelled ‘Okay/got it’ and then after every attempt at trying to be heartwarming the members and the fans kept yelling ‘okay~’ and it was so cute!

Then this led to what I’m sure you guys have all heard about... the extra songs and acapella medley that lasted an extra hour. We kept whining for more songs or at least more talking, we just didn’t want them to go yet. And the boys with their weak hearts gave into our demands. Fans also said how they don’t want the wheel next time and they held a vote and said that they won’t do it anymore lol. They just really showed that they cared about us so much and that they didn’t care whether they’d get in trouble or not or anything, the only thing they cared about was us and our time together. (BRING ON THE TEARS ㅠㅠ) At first, they said that there’s a comeback in May so not to worry, after hearing our pleas for them to stay. Then they mentioned how they only found out about the comeback through the teaser on the first day and that they were just as surprised to hear that as we were. I love how they just hang the dirty laundry out there lol. (looking at you Woollim... you better do right by our boys -_- )

They kept trying to start the last song but we were whining and Namu was like, ‘If you guys keep doing that, then we really won’t be able to say no’ and I think Yeol mentioned ‘Chaser’. They first checked to see if they had the venue booked until a certain time or if they could keep talking for longer and fortunately, the staff said that we had it for the night. They always mention how they get lots of complaints from parents and stuff for how long their concerts are (they’re always at least 3 hours, which is quite long compared to other concerts) and they were like oh wells lol. They checked to see if they had the MR and said not to tease them and upload vids of them getting the choreo wrong since it’s been a long time. Finally, staff said they didn’t have the MR and after A LOT of going back and forth with the staff about MR/AR/acapella, they finally said they had the MR for ‘Entrust’ and ‘Cover Girl’ and they were like let’s just do both, so the boys put on an impromptu performance of those songs and they were walking around and going through the second floor again and some of the boys (like Gyu and Namu for sure) made sure to stop by and say hi to their families. You guys don’t even know how happy I was. ‘Cover Girl’ is my all time fav song and ‘Entrust’ is up there too. They’re just so happy and whenever the boys perform it, they always give lots of fan service so I was ecstatic. Woohyun ended it with ‘We’re yours!’ They had so much fun with it and Dongwoo was all excited and they were kinda like whatevers, eff it, let’s just keep going lol. So they were thinking of other fun songs to sing and Namu was like ‘Man In Love’ or ‘Nothing’s Over’?’ and the staff said they only had AR and we were like ‘IT’S OKAY!’ but they didn’t want to do AR cause they said they had pride and didn’t want to lip sync (ALL THE PRIDE IN OUR BOYS YASSSSS) and so Gyu was like the fans can sing and we can do ‘Nothing’s Over’ then all of a sudden, the music for ‘Nothing’s Over’ came on and they all got into formation and started dancing. Then once we started singing the ‘Yeah~’ part and they realized that it was the MR version, they were all happily surprised and kept going. And of course, we did the ‘Die die’ fanchant!

Then! They tried to do prepare for the last song again until Dongwoo started singing ‘Together’, and we all kept singing. That started the medley of us singing with the boys for like 15 mins. This is definitely on youtube, so I’m gonna skip over it. All I have to say is that I am INSANELY proud to be a part of this fandom and OVER THE MOON grateful that I found these 7 treasures. We started the medley for fun, but towards the end you could really see how touched and emotional the boys were getting. There was a part where Dongwoo tried to do ‘Inconvenient Truth’ but he picked a strange part to start at so fans didn’t pick it up quick enough and he was like why isn’t anyone singing? Dongwoo also started the Telemonster OST they did too lol. They all chimed in with different songs and it was so cool to see/be a part of. Woohyun mentioned how it’s fun for them and us but everyone else must be like wth. And they also mentioned that the only thing that matters is us together, since that’s what a fan meeting is all about. UGH ALL THE CRIES. Then Sunggyu put a stop to the medley cause they started singing the Digimon and Pokemon theme songs and were getting too off topic lol. Then they finally performed ‘Thank You’, went around and said their goodbyes, and finally, at the end, Myungsoo started to cry. Yeol was like, ‘Someone give me your phone so I can take a pic and upload it!’ lol. Then the list of official fanclub member names came up but I was so pissed cause the security kicked everyone out before I could see my name. They literally pushed me out the door and slammed the door in my face... and then some security guard manhandled me while I was waiting on the sidewalk trying to cross the street. I think it’s cause I had my phone in my hand and he thought I was trying to wait on the sidewalk for the boys’ vans to go by but I just wanted to go home at that point. So the end of the night was -___- but then as I made my way home, they start texting one by one messages through that number that you were supposed to send your selca to. Each member said a short cute message of thanks and love you’s.

Overall, this was probably one of the best INFINITE related anything that I’ve been to... and I didn’t know if anything could beat IEA. But ugh, seriously our boys... I have no words. You could feel their love. I’m so so sorry that this was so long, but since it was a fan meet rather than a concert, there was so much more talking! Even after the few hours I put into writing this account, I still feel like I’m missing stuff or left small stuff out cause there’s too much already. Hopefully we’ll all be lucky and blessed with a DVD of the fan meet one day! If you have any questions, please feel free to leave us an ask and thank you so much for reading to the very end! And somehow the stars align

So I was just thinking of my top favorite artists of all time: Taylor Swift, One Direction, and 5sos. And they strangely all have similar pathways even though they're on different roads. 

The beginning. 

Out of the three Taylor is the artist I can tell you the least as to how I fell into her music but it I believe it manifested from a friends recommendations. 

One Direction I remember seeing the countdown for WMYB on my sidebar every day I was on youtube, by the time the music video dropped I finally clicked on the videos because I was intrigued by this video trying to encroach on my life. 

5sos was a friend recommendation. 5 Years ago (+1 day) she sent my a link to try hard. I didn’t listen to it at the time because I didn’t want to download anything onto my mom’s computer. A month later she sent me the link to Luke’s cover of please don’t go, it wasn’t till I looked into his other work did I realize he was part of 5sos. Check yes Juliet and drop in the ocean that won me over.

Getting into them

I saw Taylor perform at the mall and after the show we got a signed cd (rip, at the time someone standing near us was like can we meet her after and security was like no, something about being too many ppl, but like…)

For 1d my friend had me watch their video diaries and I fell in love. We saw them at the same mall (and when I say mall I mean the Mall of America, aka the biggest mall in the U. S. A. anyways…) that was crazy busy. We didn’t have tickets but we went to watch anyways, that was fun, and it actually spawned a friendship with someone who went to my school and is now one of my besties now (who was the person who introduced me to 5sos). 

5sos. I remember wanting to go to the Stars, Stripes and Maple Syrup Tour (actually, I completely forgot about this until today, I forgot how whipped I was for them before slsp came out). But we couldn’t go. (rip, wasn’t able to go to wwat for same/similar reasons, but this year finally traveling to Chicago for a show so it kinda makes up for it). Got tickets for Rock Out with Your Socks Out Tour but we ended up selling them to go to a second 1d show. I don’t regret this decision, because 1) that was ones for the books and 2) we knew that this might be the last time we will ever see them (once Zayn left me and my friend were intent on going to more than one show). Back to 5sos, the day of their show we almost ended up getting into their radio show, but we still go to see them walk past. 

The second album ‘Hiatus’

This is where things strangely align

Way back to middle school I wasn’t into music the same way I am now, it was healthier, lol. I still loved Taylor but I didn’t get fearless until Christmas, I fell in love with that album on my grandma’s staircase. I watched all the behind the scenes pictures, but compared to the information that goes out now I knew nothing, I just knew the bigger things (I think this is why I always struggle/feel like I don’t fit in with online Taylor stan culture, bc it wasn’t how I fell for her and her music). We tried to get tickets to the fearless tour but were unsuccessful.

Before I begin with 1d, I also want to remind you that Spotify has not always been around, and even then I didn’t download it till sometime in 2017. I don’t even know when it comes to the tmh era. Back sophomore/junior year when I got into things it would be in waves (it’s starting to go back to that which is healthy). So tmh was when I wasn’t following 1d so much. My friend invited me to see a prescreening of the this is us movie. I /sort of/ forced myself to listen to tmh. TMH era might have been one of their best but there’s a reason why it took me a while to get into this album, it’s just not my fav, I find it the least memorable, even though generally speaking its a better album than uan. (I still love the album don’t get me wrong)

5sos, oh 5sos, just trying to figure yourselves out. I don’t like talking about this much, it’s important to acknowledge but it can also feed negativity. Them as people were getting harder to stand and the fandom was getting to be too much, so I had to say goodbye to social media side. I don’t regret this decision and I really wish I had done this at one point for 1d, but with that, it was a little different (baby gate being announcement was hell). I still loved their music but my friend was pressuring me not to listen to it, so that winter I didn’t buy livesos, but I do remember a year later I listening to the skh ep, and enjoying it (Even though I was iffy about skh at the time). School had started and I was kinda out of the loop so I don’t think I actually knew when sgfg came out (Even though I defs followed a few 5sos ppl still, just not update accounts at the time)

Even though I wasn’t there for sgfg I equate this time period with the self-titled album era - post album release because I was there but I wasn’t. I liked the album but it ended up being the least memorable, similar to take me home. 

3rd album hoopla

For each of them, the hype began months before the album was released, most likely starting with the drop of a single and riding a high from there.

For Taylor it started with her live stream announcing the 3rd album, to mine that released when I was in a cafe in the Northwoods, the album release week was epic, we finally got tickets to see her on tour (for my friends 15th birthday, 15 I still cry I go to listen to this live when I was 15). I EMBODIED THIS ERA. I had my first crush, the world was magical, I was in a world wind.

This was my school friend forcing me to let my fangirl out lol. (For 1d this wasn’t their peak compared to Taylor and 5sos currently, but it was a very important era for me as a fan). It started with me going to the prescreening of this is us, wow I loved them. SNL performances, being excited for the first show, I had all the lyrics printed out so I could sing them...good times. (I feel like 1d’s best era was tmh but I wasn’t there so its not my #1 era as a fan, from there it’s hard to pick bc I didnt get to see them during wwat, I did with FOUR/OTRA, but there was also DRAMA with that era, and then there was MITAM mini era which got us high and dry(ingourtears)).

And now here we are for 5sos’ 3rd album. You can FEEL that this one is different. SGFG was good, heck, that is one of the best albums I have ever heard, and ngl I was low key nervous as to how they were going to out beat it. But that album was rushed, they didn’t get as much time off as it feels, but this album there is SOOO SOOO much love put in this album. And it goes beyond the lyrics. They really pushed themselves, instrumentally, emotionally, vocally, as people. There is growth, expansion. They reinvented themselves, and yet they are just an embodiment of who they always were, the lessons they’ve learned, and just a better more empowered version of themselves. I wish I could remember if it was pre or post want you back but I ended up getting into SGFG (properly) around this time. THe first few songs made it hard to get into the album when I had listened to it in the past. But I was finally able to skip around those (this is one of those times where I probs would've listened to the album earlier if I had spotify at the time) and later fall in love with them. I think that album came in at the right time. I got to go to 5sos3, got tickets for meet you there, youngblood is amazing. Life is great.

Since the 3rd album hoopla for 1d and Taylor

I got to see both of them from row, in the same year,  b stage for 1d and center catwalk for Taylor. Still love them, they’re chill, since 2015 I can say I’ve seen Niall at least once every year, 2 times for OTRA, met him during his golf tournament in ‘16, 2 radio shows in ‘17 on which Liam also played at. I have a Harry concert in a few days, seeing Niall twice this year to continue the tradition, might see Taylor (tixs are sooooo expensive, don’t love her new album that much but this girl loves  Taylor sooo, I’m not going to miss it - I don’t hate it but it’s just not the same as how I feel in love with yb instantly, it doesn’t give me that feel), and I get to see 5sos again in the fall (I want to go to their Chicago radio show so bad bc it’s close to the Chicago Niall show, but not close enough, darn)

10 Good Things of 2016

So @idoltina (who won’t let me tag her anymore for some reason) tagged me for this like two weeks ago, yet both life and trying to figure out what was good about last year got in the way. (also like, because things are stressful and busy, a lot of the year is completely blanked out of my memory) Anyway here’s this list.

1. Started grad school! I was very nervous about it and it really has been stupid hard to juggle everything I have to do, but I honestly think this was one of the best decisions of my life. I’ve met some great people and I’ve discovered that I really love what I want to do and feel like I actually belong in higher education.

2. Finished my major fic project, largely thanks to Tina, and it’s the biggest thing I’ve ever written. I’m very proud of it.

3. Started a new job! It’s a problem because now I just keep bringing home books. But I have to give them back so I try to actually read them all quickly.

4. Went to two hockey games, one with my dad and one with @editingatwork and both were so, so much fun. I mean, the one with Caitlin was a bit more fun because of all the stuff we got to do, but we won both games both times I went so clearly I should go to more games. @ CBJ hit me up with free tix

5. Started getting treatment for my mental health issues. It’s been scary and we’re now going to be trying some different strategies, but I feel better than I have in a very long time and I’m very grateful to everyone who encouraged me to go for it.

6. Continued to have a group of amazing friends who are very understanding about how stupid my schedule has been and I remain very grateful for their presence in my life.

7. I met a lot of new dogs and they’re all great.

8. Bought tickets to an OUAT con this June with @somanyfandomssolittletime and we’re gonna meet and get photos with Jen and Colin and I’m still kind of dying over it.

9. Met @lifeinahole27 IRL and have hung out a few times and we’re due to again soon because last time we hung out it was fucking hot as balls and that means it’s been too long.

10. And as much as I enjoyed my last job, I no longer have to drive an hour+ to get to work. I mean, I still have a bit of a drive, but it’s way shorter and I don’t have to take the toll roads to get there, so really it’s a win overall.

Hi so i am in the process of looking for my first car....now i am not spoiled i promise i earned all my own money...My friends father buys cars, fixes them up, and resells them. It so happens to be that he has a very good condition 2001 Volkswagon Passat W8 with basically everything you can get in a car. I have just returned from 2 months being away and was very much surprised to read letters from tesco insurance about being unable to take money from my account for the annual renewal of my policy and therefore cancelling it. I talked to my bank and they said that there were not attempts to take money from my account by tesco. While tesco says that my card has been refused.
