Delightful Distraction

A genderswapped FluffyNight drabble to celebrate reaching 300 followers! This was briefly looked over & written in two sittings! Happy reading!

Ccino hums quietly to the music that's playing in the otherwise quiet café & picks up the dirty dishes of the table that had just left, leaving the building free of customers for the time being.

Carrying the plates carefully with both hands, she walks into the back where the kitchen is & deposits the dirty dishes into the sink, already filled with plates from earlier in the day.

Ccino debates with herself for a moment before grabbing a pair of dish washing gloves from nearby & slipping them on. She might as well take advantage of the lack of customers & get a head start on washing up.

Scrubbing away at a dirty cup, Ccino's unaware of a presence approaching her from behind until there are suddenly arms wrapped around her waist, causing her to jump & tighten her grip on the mug in her hand in surprise.

Looking over her shoulder, Ccino glares at the grinning face behind her, huffing in annoyance. "Was that really necessary?" Nightmare lets out a quiet chuckle as she tightens her hold around Ccino, resting her head on the other's shoulder.

"No, but it was funny." She mumbles softly in response to the question, pressing a soft kiss against Ccino's neck in apology. "Will you ever find it in yourself to forgive me?"

Ccino rolls her eyelights & sighs with a shake of her skull, unable to keep the smile off of her face as she turns back to face the sink. "I don't know, what will you do to make it up to me?"

Nightmare hums as she thinks, grin softening into a smile as she tries to come up with a satisfying reply. "I could always make dinner for us tonight?"

Ccino stands straight & pulls away from Nightmare's hold slightly to look at her, a look of panic on her face as she frantically tries to backtrack. "N-No, it's fine! No further apology needed, I'm good!"

Nightmare huffs with a pout, reluctantly pulling away & taking a step back from the other. "What exactly are you trying to say?"

Ccino pauses to take off the gloves she's wearing before turning to face Nightmare fully. "Honey, you know I love you," she takes the other's hands into hers, squeezing them softly as she meets Nightmare's gaze & continues speaking, "but your cooking could use some work."

Nightmare frowns as if she's upset, but shrugs after a moment as a smile forms on her face again. "Yeah, that's fair." She squeezes Ccino's hands in return, leaning in & pressing a chaste kiss against the other's teeth.

Ccino hums as she goes to kiss Nightmare again, unsatisfied with how short the last one was, only to jump at the sound of the bell hanging in front of the door ringing & signaling the presence of a customer.

She pulls away in a panic, adjusting her apron with a light blush on her face as she walks away from Nightmare & back out to the actual café area, calling out to the customer. "Just a moment!"

Nightmare watches as Ccino walks away with a pout, tentacles drooping in disappointment as she hears her begin to take the customer's order. She had hoped to have Ccino's attention for longer, but that clearly wasn't going to happen.

Nightmare looks over at the dirty dishes that she had distracted Ccino from, sighing & grabbing the gloves that the other had been using. She may as well help her darling out a little since she had distracted her.

Guys I'm having such a bizarre moment. I didn't expect to win like this, or to have my personal headcanons be confirmed so directly, but I also feel simultaneously robbed because Akutami is reaching into my head /jk

We received so little about Sukuna, but those brief brief brieeef moments of existentialism really caught me and I've thought about him for so long because of it. He was a fantastically terrifying villain, but there was always that dissonance there, between some of his words and actions, that portrayed that aimless longing and hurt and what that meant as a characterization point, and I'm honestly so hyped we turn around and get this in 271:

Y'all I started my draft for my Sukuna Reincarnation AU months ago and I never expected canon to validate me. They leave it easier and more open-ended, of course, but I'm coming on the record to say I wasn't crazy for my stretch of a character exploration and also I called it.

I won't go into the specifics of my "study Sukuna like a cockroach" notes now I just wanted to come grab the mic and announce that I beat Akutami to it >:D /lh

I'm being a good noodle and not stretching myself thin by starting a new multichap now, but I've had With the Storm in the works since January, and in light of the end of JJK and this lovely little tidbit, I'm tossing a sneak-peak from Chapter 7 because why not:

But maybe it could be. Maybe, just maybe, Uraume could accept this proffered hand and continue to hope.

Yet… things were different now. Things changed. Uraume changed, Sukuna changed, and even though they were still themselves, there was a myriad of shifts that piled on their shoulders until something gave way. Maybe a subconscious part of Uraume had braced for that to be a crash, but instead, Sukuna had been nothing but accepting and open. It only made them more nervous about losing him, just as they feared losing Pops. Uraume was not used to wanting, or hoping, but there was a powerful need in their chest that childishly demanded that they should get to keep both their kinder father and this happier Sukuna close, even if that may not be possible.

They nodded, not trusting their words at the moment, and Sukuna relaxed slightly.

“Good. Though that reminds me… You never really answered my first question. What do you want to do? With this life, I mean.”

There was that want again. Uraume felt the pull at their lungs until it was unbearable. They knew what he was asking; the question didn’t hinge on his involvement anymore, just them. Sukuna said he wanted to live peacefully, so what, then, was Uraume’s answer?

As much as they felt like a coward saying this, maybe that was okay. Sukuna felt the same way, after all. “I like this life too…” Uraume answered, and it was very different saying those words aloud. “Pops isn’t a shaman at all, and he’s good company and a good father. If I wasn’t able to find you, or you were not of this world, then… I would stay as his family.”

“That’s good,” Sukuna agreed, lifting yet another anxious weight from their chest. “I get that. Nobody else in my family are shamans either—at least, not really—and they’re all good people. It’s a good life, and even though I would have never expected it… I don’t want to lose it.”

It was amazing how similar they were, then and now. Uraume…really shouldn’t have worried about a lack of understanding. Sukuna didn’t have to say it, but it was clear that their thoughts had wandered down a similar road yet again. Their families, full of normal people living normal lives, were an unexpected treasure; to willingly become a monster, to become a scourge upon the world for whatever reason, would forfeit that. More than that, having people to care about made the desire to spread destruction lessen, rather significantly. Maybe that hurt and rage and bitterness was still there, in between their ribs, but in the ones that were dead and buried—a part of them, but also not quite there anymore, like when a scar ceases to constantly itch and ache and becomes only a mark on functioning skin.

They didn’t have to be monsters anymore. There were calmer, kinder things available to want—available to receive, even.

“This is so weird,” Uraume blurted, staring at their small hands and thinking of the strange miracle their lives turned into.

Sukuna barked a quick laugh before it was muffled into something like a snicker. “I know, right?” He leaned back in a stretch, his face catching the sun and lighting him in something that wasn’t a fire, but equally bright. “It’s not bad though.”

It was weird, to be a child, to be without some far-off goal, to be loved and happy, in the sense that it was absurd and foreign and absolutely unexpected. It was a breath of fresh air after years and years of having frozen lungs. Weird, surprising, but unmistakably good after so long of believing that no such term, deceptively simple, could have ever been applicable.

“Not bad at all,” Uraume agreed, a bright and blooming thing in their chest as their life began to slot into a new place. Still open-ended and perhaps a little terrifying for it, but Pops accepted them, and Sukuna accepted them, so maybe they could truly accept themself now, and whatever that will look like.

ok, ok, continuing with the aurora and malevolent characters interact line of thought

I'm a little curious of how Kayne would react to Erin and VD, would he think similarly about them as he thinks about Arthur and John? Would he think Erin is like, just a little human with way too much power, and who's way over his head, would he look at VD's whole "I am hunger and void and once I'm free I'll consume the sun and everything in my path" and think "sure thing buddy"?

Again, haven't listened to malevolent in a while, and Kayne is confusing

This answer ended up being long sorry I got excited talking about Erin

I definitely think he'd be intrigued, and probably would have fun poking at both of them.

I think Kayne would find it a bit funny that this great Primordial of hunger and decay was trapped in a tiny (relatively speaking) prison, and how nearly every way he tried to escape failed. Realized he could create beings able to channel the essence of the Six Primordials - oops those beings now have free will and won't listen to Void. Okay new plan these beings seem to be able to use the Primordial's Great Runes to manipulate their essence I'll apply that backwards and impose my Rune on some being and be able to manipulate their ability to channel the Primordial's essences - oops that guy keeps fighting me and surrounding himself with the very few beings who could pose an issue to this and STOP NEARLY DYING MORTAL.

Void, ability wise, is I think between Kayne and the King in Yellow, especially if they were free. Trapped in the Adamant Prison, he's still able to influence the Twins, to possess dragons and beings with his symbol, and his corruption bleeds into the Caves. His connection to Erin allows him to possess Erin entirely and manipulate his soul channels, even bypassing Erin's seals. Yet, Erin is able to almost hold him in check at times. Or at least thinks he can.

Considering how we know Kayne had fun watching the rest of 20, he would love Erin's very similar "can't defeat you" moment in the Caves. (as an aside. Erin was just a left arm and eyes in that part of the Caves. Like someone else we know.) Yeah, Erin's in over his head, but it would be fun to watch. How Void tries to have control of the body, being stopped by poorly channeled lightning, having to sit back at times (arc 1 ch 21(?) with Erin's whole explanation of how Void needs to defer to his experience at needing help), how this Primordial's plan is slowly getting more hindered by a bunch of mortals. How Erin both seeks power and freedom and could find at least one of those in Void, desperately wanting knowledge but refuses to believe things that don't light up with his worldview, clinging to the idea that he is in control yet keeps being proven wrong time and time again.

I think Erin's curiosity, want to choose, and to be in control might also resonate with Kayne. That might mean he's even meaner though, as Kayne doesn't always treat those he sees as similar to himself the best (see: Larson, Arthur, and John). Or he could offer some help with Void. Not something Erin would likely agree to willingly. He's totally got it under control, guys! Don't worry about it! (probably prompting a comment on the whole "I have to do everything alone... can you save me from the dragon?" breakdown.)

Okay this is getting long uh - yeah Kayne wouldn't see it as another Arthur and John - those two get along now and aren't at each other's throats anymore - but would find Erin and Void intriguing. He'd make fun of both of them. Might offer Void a "hey I can help you keep that pesky mortal in check if you want" and then maybe not go through with it because ehh. If Void tried to hurt Kayne with void, I think Kayne would laugh and go "oh that tingles!" Erin's internally panicking being stuck in a conversation with Void and Kayne but is also very intrigued by whatever knowledge he can get out of it (thinking about arc 1 chapters 7, 10, and 18.) I think he would like Erin for those similarities to himself and Arthur - choices, a "can't defeat you but I don't have to let you win" moment - but also would laugh in his face.
