ok, i was going to answer this expanding on my thoughts i put in tags on one of your posts, but i overestimated my energy for longer posts. i will (probably) make a clearer post rewording this to not be.. all this, but here's a whole rant i went on in discord relating to your ask

text: i mentioned this before but i'm like pretty sure the the side story is meant to reach out to us (not for the sake of saving another, but to save you, personally) i'm planning on cleaning this up in a tumblr post but here's just a VERY disorganized early ramble

everything kinda clicked for me yesterday. the ask ru sent me about the open-endedness of orv got me thinking about the purpose of the side story because yeah, orv has the perfect ending. so why would there still be more? from what i'm seeing. orv will get a clear 'good' end. no more open-ends. and for a good reason. 'omnisicent reader's viewpoint' is over, this is reiterated so many times throughout the side story. but it goes on, which means the story still has a reason to continue. as singshong said, this isn't a story for just that one kim dokja anymore, but it's still a story about kim dokja. and the 'kim dokja' in the side story, it's the orv readers. the kim dokja fragments. as in,, us. if orv had to continue, THIS would be the perfect way to truly complete the story. as much as orv is a story about tragedy it's also about love. orv has saved people even, with an uncertain ending, because the story is about surviving, to have someone live on. and it's supposed to be meant for YOU, you are supposed to dream of a happy ending because you deserve a happy end. but that's not enough for some people, even when everything pointed to kdj waking up, there were still two portals in the end. there were still some people who thought kim dokja, and subsequently themselves, couldn't be saved. so the story continues on, because it hasn't truly reached everyone yet. (1/2 i hope you see where i'm going with this)

so what i think is going to happen, the side story is going to absolutely burn in the message that YOU deserve to live, and leave on an ending that cannot be misconstrued for anything else. because if kim dokja lives on, then so will we. because we are kim dokja. so he NEEDS to live in the end. we're not even close to the end of the side story and this message is already being pushed so much through lhh. he refuses to ignore anyone, 'extra' or otherwise. he wants everyone to survive. just. see his talk with ye hyunwoo. telling him to survive no matter what, that this was his response as an author to his readers, that if he needs to use 'i am kim dokja' then do so

(there's so much about lhh i could theorize on but i can't word it right now)

i'm gonna cut this off here because i will start repeating myself but if an open end was enough to change some. it wouldn't be for others. orv needs a clear happy end to reach anyone that didn't get it the first time around.

it's this ask that changed everything for me. orv's end may have been clear to me, but not everyone thinks the same way

Wahoo, time for another Animatic Deep Dive!

I did this on twitter after my jeanmarco animatic came out last year, and I wanted to do something similar for the Royai animatic! This post will include HD stills from the animatic, as well as some nerdy insight into some shot choices and such, bc I need an outlet to geek out about it. Everything is under the ‘keep reading’ break! :]

Ok to start off, I wanted to show some behind-the-scenes stuff, including my first thumbnails I drew in my sketchbook, as well as part of the shot sheet that kept me organized (and sane) throughout the animatic.

Also, fun fact is that I'm primarily a 3D animator, so I used that knowledge to sculpt a rough version of Mustang's office for the final shot :]

Ok so now for actual stills...starting with one of my FAVORITE sequences to draw, which I have dubbed 'the scrolling bit.'

And a fun little composition tidbit about this sequence is that I tried to show the passage of time through Roy & Riza's placement in the shots. So in order, they progressively go from the right of the screen to the left. It was actually a really last-minute decision, bc originally I had two different shots (see below) which got scrapped in order to do that silly compositional thing. I think it was a worthy sacrifice because that drawing of Black Hayate on Mustang's head was just so fun to draw.

OKAY, now I want to move onto my favorite part of any animatic, which is the pretentious stuff about 'character placement' and "the deeper meaning." Blah blah, all that art-school kind of stuff that you'd hear in some film analysis class.

It's not intentional whatsoever, but I realized after the animatic was finished that Hawkeye is almost always on Mustang's righthand side, other than a select few times when he's the one supporting her. Feel free to look into that if you'd like, but just know it was not intentional and isn't consistent 100% of the time.

What was intentional, however, were these 4 shots, and specifically the placement of Mustang & Hawkeye within them:

These 2 sequences are meant to be direct parallels to each other, in everything including how Mustang turns to Hawkeye, and Hawkeye is already facing him. They were also my favorite shots to animate, especially with Riza coming out of her salute. Seeing them in the final animatic almost made me tear up, ngl. They're just so dang in love!

Finally, the last part that holds some artsy deeper meaning is a sequence I actually shared a long long time ago. I've dubbed it the 'spotlight section' bc idk how else to describe it.

Back when I teased this sequence, I alluded to some "deeper meaning" behind the use of red in the tags. And while the use of red is a pivotal thing throughout the entire animatic, it's most important here. It starts on Hawkeye's back, then transfers to Mustang's glove, and finally goes back to Hawkeye as her blood. Basically what I was trying to get at was something about consequences, and where flame alchemy has led them. In some way or another, Riza's decision to show Roy her tattoo ended up leading to her own (near) demise. So the red was supposed to show that transfer of consequence, if that makes sense.

ANYWAYS. Enough of me rambling. Thank you for reading if you somehow made it this far. All the love on this animatic - even since I first started teasing it back in November - has been insane to me. Ok as someone who has put many things in my mouth that I should not have have, and if I scale it by say x 3 if we take Alfred strength (the average human bite force is 180 psi, so I'll make Alfred's 500 at the minimum) here is what he can most likely bite through

I've bitten through leather with some difficulty (dont ask) so I'll assume he can do that with like 2 good chomps.

I've also bitten clean through a plank of wood once, it took a while, but it is possible, so Alfred bites through it slightly faster than a beaver.

General cloth like linen or cotton isnt hard to break so with the right angle, and mind you this is with human shaped teeth so tearing isnt very good, he could probably bite it out in one go, or grind it and fray it very easily.

Hemp rope and burlap is significantly harder and much itchier, and considering how tightly everything is woven, it's kind of as hard to do as leather straight up, and the fibre makes it even slightly harder.

As for sheet metal Ive managed to dent it but never cut through it, I think because if how flat sheet metal is, hed be able to do this as we do with aluminium.

Most plastics are easy for people so hed have no trouble

I've managed to bite through a feldspar and flourite, but nothing harder, so I'll bet he could probably bite through quartz and maybe topaz if we're pushing it.

I may return with further findings.

the human mouth is so lamely shaped for biting inopportune things because we have cheeks. big cheeks for holding food. biting stuff like rocks would be so much simpler if we could reach our flat, grinding molars with more ease. and while incisors are meant for tearing, you're right that human incisors are not meant for wood or metal, but rather for vegetal material (frugivory, folivory).

but also consider that human teeth can still very much break skin. the most dangerous part of a human bite, though, is the bacteria in our mouths rather than the puncture wound itself per se,,,

also was it you that put in the tags "mohs hardness scale but it's if alfred can bite through them"? because i loved this tag so much sldkfjhgsads i stan this new mohs hardness scale. also i am SO sorry to tag you again but @if-you-like-pina-colada-s made a very very wonderful addition to my ramblings regarding bite force. you postulate 500 psi at least (fun fact - that's 100 more psi than the grip strength of an average adult bald eagle, bc i'm silly and think about grip strength, too). piña got a number for the stronger nations at ~3,000 psi, which approaches a crocodile's bite force, and if you've seen what a croc can do with their sheer amount of closing power,,,, ough. i find this to be a wide range full of fun to play with.

also i think i went insane one night when i had to remember that in canon we see a probably 3-year-old alfred lift and swing a bison. if we assume your average three-year-old male weighs about 31.8 lbs (CDC) while a male american bison (Bison bison) can weigh up to 2,200 lbs. if we are to believe these shenanigans, that's 69.18x alfred's body weight if the bison is at its heaviest. even a female, which tops at 1200 lbs, is still 37.74x. he's the real ant-man fr!! because i'm telling you someone reminded me of that bit and i was sitting like bro what the hell,,,

this whole conversation is just making me want to compare alfred's skull and jaw to a robust australopithecine. like okay paranthropus robustus boy. gonna start calling him a gorilla fr. 1300 psi? 1500 like a jaguar? fuck this dude do NOT put your mouth anywhere near me. please fuck off immediately.

Final stroke spoilers!!

Okay I've actually been curious about this, but do you think Haru ended up finding his dream in fs2? Like of course he wants to swim with Rin and Rin wants to go professional, but does that mean Haru wants to as well? Would he even enjoy the professional world? It's the ending but I still have so many questions

Hiya! Answer is under the cut!

I'm of the opinion that he DID find his dream, at least to some extent. As ES showed, Haru just wants to keep swimming, and wanted to experience a certain sight he saw while in Australia. While Rin obviously is a significant part of that dream (not least because they went to Australia together), they have their own individual paths that they want to follow, and the series as a whole often shows Haru having to come to terms with the fact that the paths he's shared with his friends so far may not be the same in the future (think back to how he freaked out when Makoto said he'd decided on his college plans in ES).

In FS1 & 2, Haru sees the sight he's been looking for, and swimming professionally and becoming stronger are the routes he takes to reach that dream. As @fencer-x and I have discussed in the past, Haru is more than willing to go pro so long as it is on his OWN terms. He's not going to walk that path because some school principal told him it's expected of him (ES) or because some coach said that there is only one way to become stronger (DTF and FS1). He goes pro to experience that sensation from ES, and becomes stronger so that he can pursue that sight and continue swimming as long as possible (and with Rin as much as possible too).

I think Haru will enjoy his pro career as long as he's aware that HE'S the one on this path, and therefore HE gets to decide how to navigate it. After all, his last line in FS2 is: "The moment I become ordinary... I'm fine with it happening a little later "

Free! FS2 Trailer Thoughts and Speculations

Well, it’s here. Our suffering was not prolonged, and we now have an idea of what to expect on the 22nd. So let’s take a closer look at the trailer, and see what we can make of it, shall we?

If you want a recap before we go ahead, here are Parts 1 and 2 of my previous thoughts.

Also, shout out to @caffernnn and the rest of the FS server for the engrossing discussions and speculations of the last few months! As always, please feel free to contribute to my ramblings!

Ok, here we go! Reminder: MAJOR SPOILERS FOR FS1 AHEAD.

As we noted last time, when the teaser dropped, Haru is MISERABLE. But the trailer shows that he may be facing burnout as well - it’s so bad that he COLLAPSES right after getting out of the pool. Ryuuji’s words and Haru’s resulting actions have left him emotionally drained, so much so that he can’t even stand. This definitely calls for an intervention from his friends and loved ones, and it seems like we are going to get that: both Makoto and Rin appear to be having some kind of confrontation with Ryuuji.

While Makoto doesn’t say much, and isn’t even shown beyond his hair in that shot, he’s obviously not going to be happy that Haru is in this state, and there is already some setup from S3 for Makoto coming into conflict with Ryuuji over Haru’s abilities, potential, and coaching. As Makoto wants to be a trainer, he might find himself stepping in (it’s possible Nao may be involved too).

Rin, on the other hand, is directly coming for Ryuuji, and yelling about what’s happened to Haru and what swimming means to Haru. He may even be the one to propose a relay team comprising himself, Haru, possibly Ikuya, and a fourth person (who remains unknown as yet, but my Makoto-loving heart knows who it 800% SHOULD be), and might temporarily set aside his plan of focusing solely on breaststroke in an attempt to reach out to Haru in the way Haru knows best. From this trailer, it’s clear that Makoto and Rin, Haru’s two most important people, are going to lead the intervention.

However, other characters are clearly going to help Haru as well. Ikuya, Natsuya, and Sousuke already seem to be at the forefront, based on their dialogues of Haru having been there for them/Haru being a hero/worrying about Haru/wanting to help Haru/etc. Natsuya or Sousuke are strong candidates for the unknown 4th person in the relay, as FS1 has already set Sousuke up to have some skill in backstroke, depending on how his shoulder is healing, and Natsuya may be able to qualify for a tournament or two? I look forward to seeing the roles each group/team from Haru’s life plays, since the poster, teaser, and trailer have made it a priority to highlight the teams Haru has swum with - especially the OG relay team comprising him, Makoto, Nagisa, and Rin.

Now let’s look at Kaede and Albert! They’re clearly playing important roles as well. Based on his quote at the start, Kaede may well give Haru the first rings of the wake-up call he sorely needs, and as I’ve speculated before, he may also provide more context about Ryuuji and his mindset (particularly since Ryuuji abandoning his friend for the race does NOT appear to have made him stronger). But Albert is also going to have some kind of wake-up call, what with the trailer showing him crying. We will most likely get Albert’s backstory through a flashback or something of the sort, and he may also gain some sort of redemption arc - but the context of his creepy coach still remains unclear.

The one thing we can be certain of from seeing the trailer is this:

Haru is going to be okay.

Yes, he will start the movie miserable and hurt and burnt out, but he is eventually going to get his wake-up call, have friends who will stick up for him and give him the help he needs, and find the words to express what he’s feeling and what the water and swimming mean to him.

When Haru says his usual tagline, “I only swim free,” there’s no quiet disinterest the way there was in the first couple of seasons of the anime. This time, his voice is strong and determined, and it may be that he means to say: “I only swim my version of free.” I wonder, based on his location, outfit, tone, and expression, whether he’s confronting Ryuuji and telling him where he stands on the “abandon everything to become stronger” philosophy? Haru deserves to have that final showdown with him and make it clear that he does NOT appreciate being lived through and manipulated like that.

More importantly, Haru is SMILING when he swims free. Not once in the entire series have we seen this. Not once. That’s the surest sign that he’s okay, and that he will find what he’s looking for.

So there is definitely going to be a happy ending (unless KyoAni says “SIKE” worse than they did in FS1), and Haru will likely achieve at least some part of his dream, either in the main movie itself, or in some sort of montage/final scene that may be a callback to the ending of ES, where Haru and Rin are at a tournament and are about to swim freestyle. Many in the fandom have also speculated that the time capsule will come back at the end as well, and I’m on board with this theory too.

I’m looking forward to seeing the movie, and hopefully understanding more of it than I did last time. I believe this will be a fitting end to such a memorable series, and I know that, one way or another, we’re in for the wildest ride of our lives.

Hiya, everyone!! I was able to get a ticket to watch the online streaming of DigiFes 2022! The evening event had the whole Frontier Cast reading a new audio drama together, which takes place about 2 years after the series ends. Here are the details of what happens in the drama (whatever I understood, anyway! Please excuse any translation errors; my Japanese is still a work in progress):

After becoming a middle schooler, Takuya gets an email telling him to come to that elevator area in Shibuya at 17:45…but when he goes, that mysterious elevator isn’t there

Izumi and Tomoki appear, and Takuya assumes they sent the mail to prank him, but it turns out they also got the same email

Junpei and Kouji also show up, with the latter seemingly enjoying teasing Takuya once or twice

Izumi’s kouhai gave her a stomach band (haramaki) as an elementary school graduation present (Junpei sounds jealous)

Tomoki is now the same age as “Takuya-oniichan” when they had the original adventure

Junpei and Kouji didn’t send the email either, so Takuya assumes it’s Kouichi, and states he may have come into contact with some dark and corrupt file or organisation and they may have to fight said organisation (Izumi thinks he may just be planning a surprise party or something)

But nobody believes him, not even Tomoki LMAO

Kouji spills some TEA: apparently Kouichi went out for tea…WITH A GIRL

Btw, the twins canonically attend the same middle school

So the girl wanted to confess to Kouichi, BUT SHE CONFESSED TO KOUJI BY ACCIDENT

He told Kouichi about it, but he apparently made a promise on his behalf to meet with her later

Kouichi suddenly appears and is like “Kouji, what the HELL did you do????”

Apparently Kouichi wanted to turn the girl down, but couldn’t, and somehow ended up meeting the girl’s PARENTS (comparing it to an arranged marriage meeting or something like that), because Kouji seemed to have made some pretty grand promises to the girl about “our future” (I didn’t fully catch what they said in this bit, sorry!)

The twins collectively share one (1) braincell, and apparently the twin with permanent custody is NOT Kouji

But they seem to have gotten used to being brothers - they get into a MASSIVE argument about the miscommunication involving the confession

“KOUICHIIIIII!!!” “KOUJIIIIIII!!”

Tomoki: “Twins…they’re really something, aren’t they?” (He used the word 大変 which refers to then situation being unfortunate)

Back to the mysterious email, the gang wonders who sent it, as the culprit could only be someone who knows about their adventure. Tomoki speculates about it being Katsuharu or one of the others from his group, but they don’t have the gang’s emails

Junpei comes to the conclusion that one of the gang is therefore lying: hence, the reveal of “Detective Junpei Shibayama”

Izumi: “when the heck did you become a detective”

“Detective Junpei Shibayama’s Case Files: Season 3, will now begin!”

Kouji: “Season 3?” Kouichi: “When was this series even confirmed?”

Junpei labels everyone as a suspect, and accuses the twins of being the culprits behind the email, because they could have alibis for each other, and there is a history of the twins impersonating each other, and therefore they used the girl’s confession to their advantage (and presumably sent the email from her phone? Idk, I couldn’t keep up with the technical details of Junpei’s “evidence”)

Junpei accuses the twins of currently impersonating each other, and they’re the culprits

Kouji: “Nope, you’re wrong” Kouichi: “Our faces are the same, but our voices are very different - shouldn’t you know that much?”

Everyone else starts getting into Detective Mode from then on, starting with Takuya, who suspects Izumi due to something about the haramaki from earlier (didn’t catch the explanation)

But absolutely nobody even takes his accusation seriously

Free! The Final Stroke Part 2!!

So I managed to snag first day first show tickets at my local theater, and I WATCHED THE MOVIE.

IT WAS THE BOMB.

My Japanese isn’t the greatest, but here’s what I saw!

Starts with Ikuya and Kaede talking, with Sousuke and Hiyori joining shortly afterwards

Haru pushing himself so hard that even RYUUJI has to tell him to cool it lmao, and the old man says something like "there will always be other tournaments"

Eventually, Haru reconciles with Rin and Makoto after cutting them off for a few months; Rin and Haru have an informal race with Makoto giving them the start, and the security staff at the pool MAY have implied that the two just broke the world record

Haru remembers how good the water feels, and after he and Rin pull Makoto into the pool, he thanks them

For the Ryuuji Azuma antis: no, we do not get a shot of Rin killing him, but the two do have a confrontation after Ryuuji forces Haru to rest

Rei and Nitori are attending Shimogami Uni!!!!

Nagisa is now Kaede’s kouhai, along with some of the other Samezuka kids!!! Also, Nagisa and “Kin-chan” get along??????????

Momo becomes Samezuka captain; Ayumu is now the Iwatobi captain (and apparently an Ojou-san as well??? She has a freaking HELICOPTER that takes everyone to Fukuoka????)

We see flashbacks of Haru's grandma!! And BABY INFANT HARU!!

Lots and lots and lots of flashbacks to childhood memories, especially for Haru. He sees his past self running away from the offer of the relay by little Rin!!

But he eventually returns to that memory and tells his childhood self that he’s not going to lose himself just by swimming in a relay. “You are you!” he says “I’m me!”

Baby Haru cryingggggggggg

Kaede, to Haru: “Why do you put so much into swimming? I only swim for myself”

Haru’s answer: “The water is my special place”

Even RYUUJI gets a redemption arc, where he tells Kaede “I won’t run away anymore” and takes a step back from coaching Haru after Haru reconciles with Makoto & Rin

Ryuuji cries at the end, during the Fukuoka tournament

Ryuuji's childhood friend Kiyofumi apparently used to call him "Ryuu-chan" lol and Ryuuji used to go "stop using -chan" exactly like Haru

After Ryuuji and Mikhail step back, Makoto and Nao, especially Makoto, come into their own! I think the others even start to refer to Makoto as their “trainer”!!!

Haru overworking himself so badly that he slumps from exhaustion after the 100m free heat in the Fukuoka tournament, so he can’t swim in the finals because HE’S IN THE CLINIC

there’s a second season coming up with the same two male leads, with a similar premise of crime solving in the chinese republican era but they’re no longer playing the same characters (i.e. main characters are different I don’t know how that works)

especially the heart eyes he keeps giving her when he realises how head over heels he is in love with her

and how much being in love with her changed him from lazy snotty aristocrat to actual functioning “I Will Protect My General Wife Even Though I Can’t Fight At All” member of the government

side note its chinese name literally means “general above/ on top”, and this series was adapted from a novel called 将军在上我在下 “general above/ on top, I am below” like HMMMM

this show was censored so heavily and diverged so much from the original novel, but the actors and the entire crew knew that they were acting a romance and not a romance and it damn well showed

I believe that this show set the road for the untamed because even though it became so wildly popular among fans that I guess it signalled to show runners the possibility of drama adaptations of BL novels despite the heavy censorship

seems super long but was actually aired in two seasons

tbh I would’ve listed horror as one of those genres

because especially in the first half of the show I was watching most of it from behind my hands

there are a whole bunch of series and movies before this one, it’s part of a super big franchise (probably one of the biggest franchises) in china called 盗墓笔记 (the grave robber chronicles, or the lost tomb)

but you don’t have to watch the previous shows to know what’s going on because this one pretty much starts from a new arc, give or take a few casual references thrown into the conversation referring to their past adventures (which are also shown in the opening if you know what to look out for)

xhu yilong here is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from xhu yilong in guardian. there he was invincible ass kicking alien. here he is sick dying old uncle who needs to be protected but still pretty damn smart.

Miss Su Wen Li, a beautiful and witty socialite, forms an unlikely detective duo with the righteous and serious inspector Luo Qiuheng. Before the concert - So first of all I have to acknowledge how much of a privilege it is to even be able to watch him like that, not just that he's got a show somewhere close enough to you it doesn't cost you a fortune to even be there (and then still.. to even be able to afford a ticket), and managing to get a ticket in the first place, but I joined the queue in the afternoon the day before in order to be sure of a good spot without being an asshole about it sdfasd (with that I mean, others ensured their spots with other tactics causing quite the.. vibe.. at the front there. It's not even the "cutting line" I'm bothered by it's the part where they'd just brag over and over how they did that. Like you're trying to make people around you feel like shit or start an argument like do you wanna get punched by a horde of exhausted people or what like let's just all enjoy the show instead maybe). Anyway about the privilege thing. You have to be able to afford the time and money to accommodate yourself and also.. who the fuck does that for anyone? that's insane it's absolute fucking insanity what the fuck are all of us what the fuck does this man do to us that we do that for him like it's. ridiculous. I can't believe how willing I was to do that ksadjlakj. I didn't think I was. I don't think it makes sense to do this. I'm gonna be honest here I don't enjoy this aspect of the fandom, this need to be in the first box of people to enter, to run to barricade (tbh that part was kinda fun), to exhaust yourself for 24+ hours, remove comfort, perhaps endanger yourself if you aren't able to do it properly for health reasons or just naivety or whatever, to all keep inching the time you need to be there to get a regular spot further up and up and up as tour goes on until people are claiming the venue doors a full 2 days in advance. And even on the day like if you wanna be in the first 2000 to get in you need to be there for like 8 hours (im just saying numbers here like these are prob total bs but you get the point) like either you camp to be in the first lil clump of people that are let in, or you just arrive just before it starts. Those are your options really. To be honest I wasn't planning on sitting there for 24hrs but I did, like on the spot I decided to stay, because I was there the day before just to bring my friends ( @ialwaysknewyouwerepunk and partner <3 EDIT: @caralara !!! I didn't know if you wanted to be tumblr official so I didn't tag but EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HI) some stuff for camping and then the plan was for me to go to sleep and join them early morning. But once the system was explained it was clear that would mean a lot of queueing by myself and I just wanted to be with them so I stayed and we managed and were somehow still prepared even though it was an improvised thing. It was actually really fun, I didn't mind any of it really. But that was 100% the company. And in that regard I do get this whole... situation we got going on before every show where fans are just all have a big camp out. It's addictive even, it's part of the whole experience, I do really get it, but for that aspect of it, not for the need to be at the front over and over again. That's just... an amazing perk then. Like really I'd queue again if there are people in it that I wanna hang out with and I wouldn't see them otherwise, but in no way am I sitting outside for that long solely to get a good spot at a concert. Even if that's louis. And the best fucking thing I've ever seen. Anyway on friday we just snoozed with a view of the tour bus which was like.. a night under the stars get it asddsf. The next day we sat in the front lil box for the special first 150 and it was funny to recognize a lot of common fandom faces and then figuring out from what exactly.

I also talked to one of the people working at the venue, and they said they've only seen something similar 4 or 5 events in the 20 years they've been doing this work, but they were all huge and in Ziggo Dome, another venue at that square. They also let us store our stuff in lockers beforehand at that venue instead (but i think a lot of people already had means to store their stuff)... I guess they got the memo we would NOT take ANY time putting those safe whatsoever once the doors opened. literally people were willing to risk their lives and possessions for a good spot. Really just all logic is out the window for louis tomlinson istg and I knew this of course but seeing it all around me was new. Oh but talking to other fans? TALKING TO ELLA? my PEOPLE my PEEOPLLLEEEEE I'm SO happy I got to meet you two you are such amazing amazing kind souls we're absolutely gonna meet again weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

So it got pretty shit about 2 hrs before we could get in, because the sun was JUST behind the building and all of us had already stored all our stuff and the temp was being weird, like it almost heated up and then it didn't so we weren't doin too well luv and that was the first moment I really felt like this wasn't it this wasn't the way akasljsal.

Inside - Once the doors opened of course it was total chaos and we ran and managed to get on what I think was 4th row? but by the end it was like 6 or 7. We were slightly to the left, this is the exact spot with the help of louis pointing at me of course its potato footage:

There was a water sent into the crowd, us and the people in front and behind us had a job like we were constantly busy handing over plastic cups, both full ones into the crowd and empty ones back, it got a bit less motivated to keep that up after a while but let me tell you i NEEDED that water and so i also wanted everyone behind me to get it if they'd feel like me or worse. I was well hydrated, i needed to pee but you don't notice it at all with all the adrenaline, but with all the screaming and jumping and post covid lungs/throat you need it.

The intro is LOUD. LIKE. LOUD. Like I felt that everywhere and it adds to the buildup and anticipation perfectly and then the curtain falls and he walks in and I apparently look like a child with wonder in its eyes when he came on, because these bitches were filming me (<3) and I got to see my reaction and its .. askdljalks cute I guess. yeah and then he was just there. he was there. in HD boy real life in very high quality did you know that? and hes fucking perfect like seriously what the hell and he just-. I don't have words I don't get it. I was going in between losing my shit dancing and singing and everything, just standing there staring at him, and trying to take some pictures. Unfortunately the taking pictures caused me to miss his stupidass smileyface green wink flickering thing (did you pick that up online? Yeah it did.). I was taking pictures at that exact moment but it didn't catch it rip.

Another unfortunate bit was that my hearing got fucked from the beginning with all the screaming so I didn't get to fully experience his sound but it was already SO overwhelming in every other aspect I didn't even really mind plus the premise of seeing him again ASAP and experience it then, with the assumption I'll get a ticket (got my eyes on Antwerp so if anyone has one please) that is.

Then there were the stops... again... I don't know if it was just one person or multiple that needed assistance but the show got stopped 2 times and you can tell he's so fking sick of it. I was fking sick of it. Anyway shits not nice of me to say, perhaps these people were in big need of assistance for reasons out of anyone's control and it did end badly but you just get so desensitized to it when it happens constantly I'm just afraid people are either clueless to the point where they just didn't know they couldn't handle it, that with not knowing how to take care of themselves included, or knowing they can't but are willing to risk everything to see him... or they're exaggerating, perhaps not even consciously, to get an unfortunate notice. Like OmG LoUiS CaReS aBoUt Me yeah but do u care about louis anyway I'm just afraid of people, louis included, not responding anymore when there's a very critical emergency at some point and everyone yells to stop the show and louis is just like bitch here we go again whenever i stop the show everyones just good what are we doing lemme just continue? you know? I thought he said something like "really?" something too but it's all a blur.

But man the ENERGY? THE CONFIDENCE? THE even though i know every single fucking bit of this show because ive watched lives 30+x times this was still just all so .. another level. Ella warned me beforehand that it's nothing like it. The lives are missing the sound the vibe the entire stage his whole body how he moves how he talks where he is within the space how awesome his band is the crowd EVERYTHING and man I was not prepared. I have a lil confession i always thought he was a lil awkward. Cute awkward but still... I thought he was awkward and turns out you can make the most confident man look awkward when you zoom in on their face performing without showing the rest of the performance, environment, nothing, and perhaps further made awkward by you as the viewer sitting in your pjs snacking in front of a screen watching it, who knew, apparently. BOY OH BOY he is NOT awkward. He owns that fking stage. What the fuck. Not even a lil bit. I was so so so wrong. I'm. intimidated lol (somehow wasnt at all when he pointed ... i was like YUUUUUHHH BROOOO BRING IT [my partner is telling me to make an edit of mad max where hes like HE LOOKED AT ME HE LOOKED ME STRAIGHT IN THE EYE!!!! i just might]) but yeah so yeah jesus christ omg.

As for things during the concert I noticed that were cute outside of the regular program... there was a sign in the crowd that said stage dive or something so he saw it, laughed at it, and then pretended to stage dive. it was cute af. he did rock paper scissors, he pointed and agreed with a sign that asked if they could smoke a joint together after the show, he cracked the absolute fuck up about a sign that said "stroganoff to get it wrong? In front of all these people" which was all the way to the right of the stage. Like he deadass just stayed in it it was so fking hilarious watching him just crackling.

He was vibing with someone off stage and making funny movements idk what it was but i was just staring like oh. He really loved some signs all the way to the left as well but I didn't know what they were.

He REALLY hated someone else that seemed to be at barrier on the left of the stage too, it was like... like a fucking dagger stabbed me lol he just gave them the 2 fingers british fuck you sign, then walked away not looking at them and flipping them off behind his back but it was with SUCH force. He was MAD. No idea what he saw but he was not happy. He then looked at one of the bandmembers like yeah they deserve it kinda thing.

He said "I see ya at the back" at some point and we looked back and didn't really see anything. There was a group cheering and jumping, so my best guess is he saw them vibing. There were pride flags on the balcony tho so it could have been that as well.

When he jumped off the stage during kmm we lost him for a long time and then he popped up reaaaaallyl short he just went BLOOP and gone, not sure about that, maybe someone pulled him? idk.

Also he refused to acknowledge a sign that said something not very interesting because we were right behind it and every time he came close like CLOSE CLOSE like i can SEE YOU SO WELL RN close the fucking sign would pop up with the speed of 28 lightyears so stronk so high so present I couldn't see him basically at fucking all i mean... it needs an arrow to show you where louis is because you can't fucking seeeeeeeeee, this is no zoom what it looked like:

I mean.. after the 5th time he has stood right in front of you reading it you don't need to keep holding it up after that? He's read it. What do you want him to do? I'm sorry he's just not gonna interact with it the 28th time if he hasn't 27 times before. It's done lemme see him please :') But this is going somewhere I promise because after a while at more than one occasion he tried to look around it at fucking us god damn it and it was in the way and so I missed 2 or 3 interactions that were directed at either one of us or one of the people next to us because only one of us at the time could see him whenever he got near so I just got half of a sentence or movement or whatever that I couldn't make out now and then, no idea, maybe watch an uploaded live, I know this one was very close to us, maybe I will, but there's one happening very soon so. Anyway he could've been interested in giving us that lil pointypoint for many reasons of which half aren't mine to tell so I won't, but for me it was just 1) going fucking mental, and it wasn't to like get him to see me do that, but lemme tell you when he confirmed that he did and enjoyed it I just got such a fucking sense of like this is the tiny thing I just gave back to him that he's given me. That seems weird probably but I'm very very held back, not just with a celebrity everyone wants to get near it seems, but with anyone I'm just always thinking I'm violating peoples space and I annoy you when I alert you of my existence basically that's just a me thing and makes me not want to like, meet him, send him anything, just... nada. Like I just don't wanna bother anyone. But like this? It's perfect. He had all the freedom to not acknowledge me but he did on his own free will because he enjoyed it and fed off the energy there seeing how ALDKJSDKLJLK we were going from his music and performance? what the fuck else would i want like shit that's just. thats perfect. But then there's 2) which is my shirt, which again I'm not gonna say just yet but you're welcome to ask me in a dm if we talk of course, but it's just combining 2 things he's big on so it would make sense it'd catch his attention.

But that's not what I came there for. I don't wanna be like y/n moment xoxo let's get more (but also, I do now, because he RUINED IT. HE RUINED IT. nothing is gonna compare to him fucking being like YO THIS BITCH IS GOING FOR IT *P O I N T S* like fuck) I just wanted to see him at least once because I could, and I was honestly planning on getting there just before it started and standing at the back by myself, chilling. ok i am terribly curious: what is a frankendraft. i saw that term multiple times in ur atdao tag and i am full of Wondering over what it means

oh hell yeah, the frankendraft! that's not a term I've used in a while!

anyway this is gonna be a super jumbled long ramble post, I'm so sorry, I have a lot of trouble explaining things concisely dhgdjkghd

okay, so, it was...... TECHNICALLY invented as my own personal "outlining" method for ATDAO, and you will see why that is in quotation marks as this post goes on :P

so the official name for the frankendrafting technique was "outline first draft frankendocument" but this is a mouthful so it got shortened to simply "frankendraft"!

in short, a frankendraft is basically a very very VERY bare bones shitty first draft, except I couldn't call it A First Draft at the time lest I intimidate myself out of working on it. a frankendraft is basically writing every single thing that happens in a story from start to finish in the form of like

X does this. Y says this. this happens. then this happens. which makes X feel this particular way. then this happens. which makes this happen. etc etc etc

I cannot emphasise enough that this is NOT in brief dot point summary form. this is in chapters. this is the Full Fucking Story. here is an excerpt from the frankendraft to illustrate my point:

"Noa is hesitant to leave Alice alone, and feels it would be inconsiderate. Plus, she's worried about how the rest of the DII will receive this, whether they will view her as reckless and irresponsible. She goes to her car to get a blanket for Alice, and then searches her back seat to see if she has anything in the way of spare clothes for herself. She locates one of Tris's hoodies she has been procrastinating giving back to him because it's huge and comfy, and puts it on."

the whole thing is basically just like. stage directions. me explaining the story to myself. lmao. it's literally all the same level of bland and undescriptive and bare bones from start to finish. I've won NaNoWriMos with how lengthy the frankendraft is

now, the whole thing may seem kind of dumb and you may be like "so what is the benefit of that?", but here, hear me out, I had my reasons, yeah. and it's actually a KILLER technique if you're not quite a plotter and not quite a pantser and you're also an over-anxious perfectionist stresshead with brain fog and a complicated plot you need to wrangle into cooperation

it functioned as an elaborate trap I could lure my anxious perfectionist writer brain into where I unwittingly spin together a coherent draft without realising

but mostly, like, in hindsight, I was SCARED of writing so I'd freeze up, and the frankendraft was excellent for helping with that! interestingly, the frankendraft was an approach I needed to use for ATDAO, but not one I've needed for Rental Car which means I've definitely made progress on the perfectionism and fear side of things! :D

now, here we fuckin go, The Longer Explanation Of Benefits Of Frankendrafting -

so, story time, there was like a five year period where I was getting NOWHERE with any of my work, and I was grumbling about it when I had the following realisations

pantsing wasn't working for me because I'd freeze up and find it super daunting, I struggled with just Throwing Myself Into a scene right off the bat with no guidance. even if my brain knew exactly where the scene needed to go, I hit blocks. no thoughts head empty. plus, the plot of ATDAO had so many different threads going at once that trying to keep track of everything While Writing A Genuine Engaging Story was too much for my confused little brain 2 handle lmao

and at the time, writing was an extremely anxious act for me! lots of perfectionism, lots of stress, in the midst of relearning how to Have Fun Writing again, blank pages are intimidating, blah blah, usually I'd psych myself out so bad that my brain stopped completely

so I thought to myself, "hey, if you're struggling to keep track of what you need to be doing and all the stress is too much at once, you probably need an outline!"

but traditional outlines don't work great for me either, see, 'cause I struggle to condense things and figure out what the Important Key Points are that I should be putting in my summaries and dot points. outlining that way feels restrictive, it doesn't express what I need it to, it doesn't help me at all when it comes to actually knowing what I need to do in a scene

'cause like, in my outline, the scene is just a brief description of what's happening, but there's so much OTHER stuff I need to keep track of, like. how does this scene progress, what are the feelings, what other plot elements are at play, where am I at with symbolism, characterisation, what's the dialogue like, what parts of the mystery are at play here

a lot needs to happen in a scene! and without having it ALL laid out for me I'd still hit blocks

so then I was like. "what if instead of either trying to write a full story right off the bat OR trying to fit the jumble of garbage inside my brain into a Nice Neat Outline while trying to make said outline resemble my plot in a way that actually helps me know what to write..... what if I just included literally as much detail as possible in my outline. what if I just included All Of It"

so I did!

I just started typing up descriptions of what happens in the scene line by line. here's an action! here's a symbolism! here's a dialogue! feelings! another action! telling the story without bothering to make it a Story, without descriptions and prose and whatever. just straight facts. not bothering to make it sound nice

and this worked FANTASTICALLY. I was coming up with fresh ideas, I wasn't scared, I was having important plot realisations, things were coming together and making sense in a way they hadn't for years c: I was finding ways to join scenes that were previously just floating and disconnected together into a coherent narrative, without the stress of "oh fuck I'm writing a story"

(and it WAS stress at the time, writing a story. I had a very dicey relationship with creative writing for several years)

but anyway yeah...... I could just trick myself into writing a first draft without ever acknowledging I'm writing a first draft

anyway this was also great for me because my two favourite parts of the writing process are 1. taking shitty words that already exist and transforming them and building on them to create something better, and 2. editing and revision. I realise now these are arguably the same thing at times

building and editing, these are my jams. I love taking some garbage and tweaking it and transforming it and finding better ways to describe things and swapping stuff round till it clicks

I could just go through an entire frankendraft like "I'm creating a hyperspecific outline, not a first draft" and then when I finished it I could be like "whew, a first draft, now the hard part is done and I get to do the fun stuff I love!" which is editing, revising, building, transforming this bare bones mess into something genuinely lovely

"but logan doesn't that take away from the mystery and fun of writing??? if you're so specific with your outline, isn't that boring??"

nope! it wasn't for me! I still got all the fun stuff, I just got it in a different way! I simply couldn't do the fun stuff and learning and discovery while I was ALSO trying to, like....... write a story, with style and description and finesse and drama and good words

plus, the most inspiring thing for me was not the Mystery and Adventure of writing (which, again, I still did get), it was my brain being free enough to just relax and write. which is why possessing a frankendraft that just directed me exactly EXACTLY where I needed to go was so freeing and wonderful!

A sigh crept from your lips as you stared at the journal in front of you. It was a hectic day at the hospital and your brain was tired from the exhaustion. Nothing important could make your brain process everything you've read for the past minutes.

You grabbed your phone to see if your son or daughter had texted you. They knew that you were having a long shift at work today, but you couldn't keep worrying if they had eaten or taking care of themselves yet.

Even if you knew that they were old enough to take care of themselves. Living in New York as a single mom was the hardest thing you had to do by yourself. But with the support of your family, they helped you with everything that you needed.

The father was out of the picture since he didn't knew he had children to begin with. You knew it wasn't the best decision to do, but he decided to break up for unknown reasons.

''Y/n, I think you need to see this,'' A cow-worker told you. You frowned towards her before she reached her phone to you. At the screen, you could see that it was a live going on and you immediatly recognised Shaun. Not only that, you could see your own son helping. ''What the hell?'' You replied. This was not the thing you expected it to be.

With panick rising through your body, you told them that you were going to leave work early. You needed to find your son and daughter to check them if they were alive. Besides, you knew it was only to be worse when Shaun was in the same place where your son and daughter was.

Picking up the phone again, you tried to call them but gained no answer. Scrolling down the contact list, luckily, you found Katy's number. It was a miracle that you still saved her phone number. ''Y/n?'' You heard her on the other side.

''Oh, thank god,'' You let out a relieved breath before stopping at the streets. ''Are they safe?'' You asked her, knowing that she would later catch upon what you meant. ''Yeah, both of them are here, in Shaun's apartment,'' She answered as you swallowed the lump in your throat.

''I'll be there in a few minutes,'' You told her before you hung up on the phone, ignoring the heavy feeling in your chest.

Walking towards Shaun's old apartment wasn't a good feeling inside of your stomach. You knew how he would react, but you knew the truth will be out. Grabbing the door handle, you were met with Shaun's eyes before turning away towards your son, Tao. ''Jesus, are you guys okay?'' Are you hurt?'' You rambled before you rushed towards Tao and Xiuying to check for any injuries.

''I'm fine, mom,'' Tao replied with a groan as he swatted your hands away from his face. You looked towards Xiuying as she nodded next to her brother. ''Don't worry,'' She responded. ''Would anyone here would tell me what's going on?'' You asked them as you looked between Katy and your children.

''Is this what you have been doing while you were at Peter's?'' You scolded him as he looked down on the ground.

You didn't dare to meet Shaun's eyes even though that you felt him staring at you. Then, everything starts to click into Shaun's mind when he saw the kids in front of him. ''How old are you?'' Shaun questioned as you bent your level to your children's height. ''Don't answer him, ok?'' You told them as you ignored their looks.

''How old are you, kids?'' Shaun began to yell a little louder as they looked at him. ''We're seventeen! Now why is everyone yelling?'' Tao snapped as he shrugged his shoulders away from your grip.

''They're seventeen?'' Shaun told you as you didn't dare to meet his eyes. ''Mom?'' Xiuying asked as you stared into Shaun's eyes. ''Are they mine?'' He asked.

''No, my dad left us when he found out that you were pregnant,'' Tao responded as he looked at you. Your eyes turned towards them. ''But you said...'' Tao begin to say before you looked at him with sympathetic look.

Tao shook his head before he ran towards the door. ''Tao!'' You shouted as you were about to go after him, but Katy grabbed your arm. ''I need to go after him,'' You told her sternly.

''I know, I will go after him since I need to pack my stuff before we go, and Shaun over here...'' Katy trailed off as she glared at him. ''Both of you, talk,'' Katy responded before she walked outside of the door.

Nobody said anything as you kept staring at the floor.

''So, you're my dad?'' Xiuying spoke up as her brown eyes looked at her father.

We did have some plans for a sequel at one point, and in fact started one that took place years later when Jack was sixteen--he would've been the main protagonist, but the others were all still there. Ultimately, though, we decided we liked the ambiguous ending of the main fic that let readers create what the world would be now after the Fae and magic had returned themselves.

So the fic was based on an idea I had for NaNoWriMo in 2005 (omg, I am old) which I got after reading a Buffy/Spike AU fanfic where she was an artist. One of the paintings described was of a city that was being taken back over by a fantasy forest, and that made me start daydreaming about ways that would happen, and then how much cooler would it be if everyone was fantasy creatures, too? So I came up with a story about a girl who was an artist and painted people as half fantasy creatures--and then the Change started and all her paintings proved to be coming true. LJ and I got to be good friends after I commissioned them for a couple sketches from that NaNo idea, so when we were brainstorming ideas for a fic to write that came up because they were familiar with it, too.

As for Perry's change, he was part dragon! And that combined with the magic he'd learned was what scared away the gryphon--in this verse dragons look on gryphons as a tasty snack, so even the semblance of one was enough to make this one shy away.

And Jordan is doing really well! She's met a lot of others and has settled in, and once things calm down and everyone can go back out of the mountains, they'll take Jack down to the beach all the time so she can still be a big part of his life.

Again, thank you SO SO SO much! I'm so glad you enjoyed this story! It's super exciting that people are still reading and loving it sixteen years after we started writing it!

@bpdaf so this answer opened a can of worms (that I can call procrastination) and I wanted to address it, but with the limited characters in the reply function, I decided to answer it with a new post. Also sorry if this come as an attack, I promise it's not. I just became really curious if I had the wrong idea about the live-shooting system as I was ready to refute your points, but realized I didn't have enough knowledge to do so.

*also tagging @jahe, @yasmini24, @le-amarant as they also replied to my post and I figured maybe you were also interested in this (although it's really long and rambly, so I don't blame you for ignoring the post entirely). So yeah warning, this post is really long.

So I'm well aware of kdrama's live shoot system. But I did wonder if it was normal to start shooting 6 months before the first airing episode, as I was under the impression 6 months of shooting exceeded the standard duration of filming. But I couldn't actually refute it without some data to back that up. So I went to find data.

According to Wikipedia's page on Korean Dramas, they write: “As producing a series involves high expenses, production companies seek to shoot the episodes in the shortest time possible. In contrast to practices elsewhere, the first four episodes of Korean series are usually shot in advance, but the rest are shot continuously as the series is being aired.”

This fits in line with what I believed about Korean dramas live shooting system. They film a couple of episode ahead of time and then rest comes while it's still airing to fit with the audience response to it. Even preproduced dramas are sometimes reshot and re-edited while it's airing. But it didn't really say anything about the average filming duration for a drama or what shortest time possible was defined as. Probably because all dramas will aim for different things and given the content it can vary a lot how long it takes to film.

But I highly doubt it took Vincenzo 6 months to shoot something around 4 episodes and then crammed the rest into the 2 remaining months, as they knew from the start they had 20 episodes to fill.

So let's go through some other drama's shooting schedule to compare with Vincenzo.

I chose to limit the list to 2020 dramas (as they were likely affected by the pandemic) and tvN dramas, so it's the same broadcasting company as these dramas will likely share the same practices. Obviously with the amount I have included, I can't make any definite conclusions, but it does show a pattern.

*disclaimer I tried my best to accurately determine the shooting duration from when filming started to when it ended, but not all of these dramas had that information readily available, so I made do with the information I had at hand. This means some of these are just estimations.

So without further ado, here's the list:

What does this mean?

So the drama that comes closest to Vincenzo's filming duration is Hospital Playlist, but they also did things a bit differently. According to their Wikipedia, they only aired 1 episode a week to comply with 52-hour week system and to avoid overnight filming for the cast's and crews' health. So that would extend their shooting time. They also had the same amount of shooting time as Vincenzo before the first episode aired, i.e. 6 months, but Hospital playlist was only 12 episode drama so they also had less content to fill.

The rest of these dramas has a shooting time with 6 months or less. I will say though a lot of these dramas are not action-packed (also I haven't checked the budget for any of these), so comparatively they probably have different needs when filming. The drama that comes closest in terms of action is Stranger/Secret Forest, and it's also pretty close in shooting time with only 2 month different (that's counting from the first table read though). This was however pre-produced so they wrapped up filming before the first episode even aired (if my information is correct). Also this was a season two so they were operating under a little different circumstances.

But with the exception of Stranger/Secret Forest (preproduced) and Hospital Playlist(tried to work with humane working hours), none of this drama has a 6-month filming duration before the first episode aired. In fact some of these dramas don't even exceed 6 months of filming. Meaning they had less time to shoot before the first episode aired. Their production was probably also lower and none them did CGI (although I haven't watched all of them so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) as that should also be accounted for.

So 8 months of filming is a lot to allocate to a drama, at least it's not the norm. There are other dramas that exceed that filming time that didn't make the list (Mr. Sunshine sorry too much research for at this point), but obviously that is not the standard.

Obviously I don't know how the filming was divided, how many of the episodes they had filmed before the first one aired. I don't know how many of the episode scripts were written before it aired. But I can see that even with the live-shooting, Vincenzo has some very uneven scheduling that doesn't align with how the rest of these dramas did their scheduling and airing. None of the mentioned dramas had any delays (in airing, I can't be sure about filming as some of them are probably affected by the pandemic), and yet Vincenzo did, even though they had spent more time filming before the first episode aired.

Also, most of these dramas wrapped up filming with more than a week to spare before the final airing, with It's Okay Not To Be Okay coming the closest to the airing date (with the ones where I know the date when they finished shooting), but they also only had 1-3 months of filming before the drama actually started airing so much less time than Vincenzo. And although they didn't have CGI, they did have the animations for each of the fairytales which I don't know how long it took but I can imagine it took some time.

So then I looked up another drama not by tvN but by Park Jae Bum:

Good Manager/Chief Kim

I couldn't find the date they finished filming, but given they only started a month before airing (honestly I felt super sorry for the cast and crew when I saw these dates), I am assuming the hit the last airing date pretty closely with filming, and that would give them 3 months of filming roughly. And they also had 20 episodes like Vincenzo.

I haven't seen this drama myself, so I can't say anything about the writing quality, but here Park Jae Bum was working under even more time pressure and was able to deliver the ending on time and as I hear, it was pretty a pretty good ending (but I haven't seen it, so feel free to refute me). And yet he couldn't do it for Vincenzo. So I do think something happened with ending, whether it was Park Jae Bum just took a long time writing it for whatever reasons, or someone/thing (be it something personal, writer's block, execs not liking the ending etc.) actually interfered and that prolonged the writing or entirely changed the ending.

Anyway this became too long, so let me just end it here.

I wish I had time to make a more comprehensive list so I could be more definite in the conclusion because obviously I can't base everything of the schedule of 8 dramas that also vastly different in production quality, genre and content.

So yeah I might have just wasted the last three-four hours making something that doesn't even make sense. But hey, at least I'm less prepared for the exams now, good use of time. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Barry

If Barry where to have a meltdown it would be a complete 180. Barry swings from mood to mood really easily so the team might not get the gravity of the situation untill Barry doesn't stop crying. Early signs is when he forces a smile instead of being honest, when his lip quivers, shoulders shake and powerful sobs rack his body. He'd drop to his knees and the team would too. Making sure that Mr. Smiley was OK. Everyone knows he's comfortable with touch and being seen vulnerable so they don't hesitate to wrap Barry into a hug. Murmuring assurances.

If Babs were to see Barry suffer a meltdown then she will most definitely panic. She'd be fluttering hands, and rambling instructions untill she finally snaps to focus and hugs him tight, or holds his hand. Knowing he needs something steadfast and solid.

If Barry were to find someone else suffering a meltdown then he'd sit next to them and sulk with them. He'd stay there, forever loyal, untill his teammate feels ready to face the world because he is that kind of guy.

Steve

If Steve were to have a meltdown it would be silent tears falling down his face, breathing the same, posture the same, voice the same even. The team would definitely take an extra second to digest what's happening before sending one of the boys in. Steve doesn't like being crowded.

If Diana were to catch Steve during his meltdown, she'd guide his head to her shoulder and let him cry. Telling him it's okay for him to take off his armor. She'd be internally freaking out about how close Steve is and why he's lost it in the first place but she'll be the picture of cool on the outside.

If Steve were to witness someone else having a meltdown he'd guide them to a seat if they aren't already sitting and talk about the weather. Stupid things like the smell of the rain and the kind of clouds in the sky. A subtle message that they aren't alone and that he's there and there's no need for them to reassemble themselves if they aren't ready.

Hal

Hal's meltdown is crying so hard he starts dry heaving, body shaking, crying harder, sobs echoing around the room. His fists are shaking and he's speaking solely in expletives. It's horrendous. The team will flinch away from the horror of seeing someone so prideful come undone before sending in someone to help. Because Hal, even while broken, would hate it if more than one person witnessed his undoing.

If Jess were to witness his meltdown she'd hug him tight. Her own body vibrating with the force of his shudders. She'll try to help him restore his breathing, get him to cry properly. And if he insists she doesn't stay she'll close her eyes as a compromise, not trusting Hal in that condition to take care of himself.

If Hal were to witness someone's meltdown he'd close his eyes, turn around, and start talking. Because he thinks his presence is enough to cheer someone up. Because that is who he is. And he also doesn't feel comfortable when tears or emotions are being shown to others so he assumes everyone is the same.

Garth

Garth's meltdown would be rambling reassurances, to others -i'm okay- to himself, - it's not my fault-, to nothing - everything will be okay-. It's heartbreaking, since he won't even let himself succumb fully to his miserableness. Before he fully breaks down he'll look up and say, something along the lines of ' I did my best'-. The team would be murmuring assurances, rocking the shaking boy back and forth.

If Kara were to witness the meltdown she'd be lit with fury and sadness and sickening worry. She'd be furious at whoever or whatever made the boy feel that way, she'd feel utterly helpless as she watches his undoing. She'd shake him a bit at first, trying to snap him out of it. If he doesn't she'll just hug him close.

If Garth were to witness someone else's meltdown than he'd be murmuring assurances and holding their hand, patting their back... He has a way of looking at people with absolute faith and admiration. It helps at times.

Carter

Carter's meltdown would be sad eyes, and silent tears. Shaky voice, turning his cap to cover his face. Finding a corner. Anywhere he can hide in. It would be trembling lower lip and shaking hands. Erratic breathing, a panic attack just around the corner. The boys would hurry to comfort him then. Telling him to breathe, to calm down they'll take care of everything. Thankfully, for Carter anyway, they don't mention it later.

If Karen witnessed Carter's meltdown she'd hug his stomach (because hello?! Height difference!!) and cry with him. If he's sitting she'll sit with him, pressing her back to his. Knowing he needs space but doesn't want to be alone.

If Carter were to walk in to someone having a meltdown he'd first figure out if they want company or not (he's very perceptive). If so, he'll quietly sit next to the teammate. His silence having them spill their guts. If not, he'll stand guard and make sure the teammate gets their quiet time.

Oliver

Oliver's meltdown is started by cutting remarks and cruel words. Lashing out and yelling, usually people leave quickly and then he breaks down. But if they don't, he'll laugh long and hard and sarcastic. Tears running down his face and into his open mouth. His team would give him a quick smack and then hug him fiercely, knowing he was trying to push them away.

If Zee were to witness Oliver's breakdown she'll most likely be gone before he gets to his crying. NOT! She'll most definitely fight back, completely taken aback when he bursts into cackles and sobs. Trying to recall what she said that was so hurtful until she realizes, it wasn't her. And then she'll demand that he tell her why he's crying. And keep arguing with him till he does. It works, have no idea why.

If Oliver were to witness someone else cry he'd sit next to them and say vain petty things that make absolutely no sense but help them cheer up, slightly. If it doesn't work he'd say, most likely in a low voice. 'you're too beautiful to cry and I'm to charming to be crying around'. That line always works.
