Only Boo! Ep 12 (Finale) Stray Thoughts
Last week, we spent time with Kang to see what he's been up to in the last year. We learned that Kang moved, blocked Moo, and changed universities to create distance between them, continuing the GMMTV trend of making the poor boy rearrange their entire life for the benefit of the richer one. When Moo finally found him, the show essentially said that Kang was correct to do this, because Moo immediately lost all composure in trying to reunite them. After spiraling, Moo got kicked in the face and hospitalized (apparently based on something that happened to my boy Aungpao). Meanwhile, Moo continues to have Potae as his inexplicable confidant, who remains jealous of Payos and Jang BGP. Also, Shone has been hanging out with Kang and occasionally flirting with him, which is gross since he encouraged them to break up.
Oh, right. Time to find out if this scene is real.
Yep, it wasn't real!
Ep 12: ONLY BOO
Shone... This is gross.
I struggle with the constant dissonance of this show not saying gay even as it's constantly demanding its protagonist accept reality.
Umm...why is Moo apologizing??
I kinda wish this has been a story about Potae and Payos struggling with an asymmetric relationship and navigating that space as idols instead. Having Potae come around in the last episode like this is not satisfying.
I'm trying to be with Moo about the blank letters, but it's like he's never really understood the social and financial expectations of being an idol at all. This why is not rhetorical for why Kang can't go to him.
Why is Kang in Hong Kong in a mascot?? Moo is gonna recognize him.
Again, Kang seems to be the only one aware of consequences.
Wow, do they really think this one scene fixes everything wrong with Potae's relationship with his parents and how they've made him feel like he's not worthy?
Is Jang now okay with his band members dating? Why??
I'm glad these two reunited, but do we really think one more conversation with his label is gonna change anything? Does Moo think he has that level of clout after a year of being in the industry?
Keen is fun to watch flirt. This has been the most engaged with it we've seen out of Sea in a while.
Why would they just agree to end the rule after all this drama? What has changed?
There is almost something here about these boys going back to their high school but knowing what they are to each other now.
It is admittedly nice to see some of the teachers again. That part was solid.
What in the pair the spares is this???
FORCEBOOK JUMP SCARE
At least they're implying Kang dealt with some of his shyness around intimacy.
Final Verdict: 5, I Liked The High School Portion Mostly, and I Liked Keen. This show was truly thematically bankrupt in a way that is actually offensive to me, and part of a trend with GMMTV of wanting only implied queerness in their shows about boys kissing each other. It is absolutely ridiculous to set up a show where a queer kid has been so loved and sheltered that he doesn't really conceive of the structures of homophobia to fall in love with a boy who seems to understand them, and then not have this be about how Moo either succumbs to this expectations or fully rejects them. It's frustrating that he's not allowed to make many choices here because it would pop the bubble around him. I'm also just so frustrated with the inclusion of Book and Louis in this show because they added so little, and I actually found Shone to be gross.
They also fully betrayed Payos as a character. He and Moo should have been gay besties and that should have been the beginning of Moo coming to understand that other queers were not afforded the luxury he has. I will not forgive this show for ruining the relationship between Moo and Payos by having Moo exclude him from his closet in favor of Potae.
On a positive note, I will say I enjoyed the character work and themes around the teachers when they were in school, and I thought Keen was rather charming in this show. I'd like to see him again.

Hello friends!
Welcome to update #2! I’m very excited for this one. I’ve worked very hard for the past couple of weeks and been busy with both this project and one (not related to ID whatsoever lmao) for administration at work!
Before getting started, I do want to apologize for the inconsistent updates and posts. Please bear with us, as we’re now a small team of four; Mir: @timetravesty, our new writer Ava: @buttercup--bee (we’ll have her introduction for ya’ll soon), Ally: @marcolinfanmarcooo, and myself, Dev! We are working hard behind the scenes and trying to get the ball rolling a little faster for all of you wonderful people!
One of our members, Ally, is taking a step back due to the tropical storm Nalgae that hit the Philippines on October 29th. Please check out Ally’s page to learn how to support or donate. Her family was heavily affected and they deserve all the help that they can get.
I also want to let you all know that I’m not going to be answering certain questions that come into the ask box. Reason being is… We don’t have the answers for some of them quite yet. I don’t want to answer anything and give false promises! While there are things that are subject to change during the writing process, we haven’t quite started on the scripting yet. We’re getting there though! I’ll still be answering questions, but it’ll just be the ones that we’ve been able to answer behind the scenes. However, we won’t give specific spoilers!!
For general and writing updates:
As soon as I have all of the primary assets ready to go, I'll be ready to start building the UI! I'm aiming to get a character creation menu done to showcase what the general layout of the game will look like. Maybe ya'll might even see a mock scene from us in the future, if the UI is strong enough ;)
We are piecing together the direction of the story right now and we’re heading in a wonderful direction. We’ll have more updates for you soon in terms of story progression and the general completion. One thing I can tell you is that vampires aren’t the only spooky bois in this world…
For asset and character updates: I’ve been working on new MC sprites between F!MC’s and M!MC’s, new clothing, and new hairstyles. I took some time to evaluate how I felt about the original F!MC’s I had finished. I initially created just one new sprite sheet, and the rest looked, well, boring. I started from scratch for a lot of them, and while it takes forever, I’ve been having fun! Quite a few of the M!MC sprite sheets are done, but there are tweaks I’d like to make before releasing them to all of you. You’ll get to see the new M!MCs soon, I promise you!
Admittedly, I have more erm -- edgier clothing because I'm an edgelord. One of the things I've been working on is making other style and varieties of clothing to ensure it's inclusive to everyone and their preferences. Another fun addition I'm aiming to add are accessories, much like @itlivesproject. Hopefully this is exciting news, but I have two new body types for both F!MC and M!MC. They vary from: fit, thin, and thicc. There are also eight different sprites for both F!MC and M!MC!! I was very excited to see that both the MC Sprites and the new outfits tied for first place in the poll a couple weeks ago! New hair/hijabs was a close last second/third(?) place, so naturally, I’m gonna show ya’ll a few of those too!

Thank you all for your support! It's meant the world to us and we're so thrilled for this project to continue progressing.
Ya'll just make me wanna

Welcome to the Barrel of Chaos
Hi, I’m Whiskey, I emerged from a barrel one day and decided to help fuel the addiction of some fanfic addicts like me, I don’t know what I’m doing half the time and I’m struggling to find time to write between work and school, so I do headcanons in between cause they fun and easy. Forgive me if my writing is shit, I don’t always beta read and Grammarly is my savior (but mine decides to stroke out a lot and not wanna work) I’ll try to come back and edit shit, but it might take a minute. Anyways love from the barrel so come get ya’ll juice whores <3
For request rules:
I’m comfortable with just about any, minus of the course the standard nothing sexual to do with kids & animals. I don’t do watersports (or vomit and shit), character death (most I'm comfortable with is near death experiences), full on SA, or torture. I might add more if someone requests something that makes me uncomfy but I’m willing to try to write anything to. I will add that if you do request something that does make me uncomfy, I will apologize but feel free to make another request and I’ll try to make it happen!
Feel free to spam my ask box, I typically will respond pretty quickly if I have the time! I love answering questions and asks, I also will take requests here!
I also would like to add that as a plus-sized person, I am probably gonna make quite a few of these plus-sized/chubby reader for readers, dw I will make size-inclusive as well. But it is hard as shit to find the certain characters x Plus-sized reader on anything!
you can also find me on ao3, I post everything on both and usually at the same time so if you prefer ao3 over here then click da link

Explanation for Spider-Charlie AU
Alright, I think I've focused way too much on making other characters into Spider-Man/Woman, and not on Spider-Charlie. I do have a ton of ideas for what her story is, and the villains she would fight. But I'm just gonna lay two important events here.
*Ahem* - Spider bite: The spider that bit Charlie would be one out of many spiders that William and Henry would experiment on, baring a similar color scheme to the Puppet. Only this spider had the inclusion of red spots on its body, hinting at a hidden power it would grant Charlie. Who would get bitten after Henry accidentally brought the spider home without knowing.
Canon Event and Rhino: Charlie's canon event would occur after she beat a well-known wrestler, Alexei Sytsevich. His loss would come at the expense of his reputation and even his sick son. However, Charlie now dawning the name Spider-Puppet, would continue to appear at wrestling matches. Of course, without her family knowing.... yet. Alexei would go to Afton Robotics (this world's version of Oscorp) to seek help in killing Spider-Puppet. William, without his partner Henry knowing, would present Alexei with armor that would surround his body and give him the edge he needs to kill Spider-Puppet. The armor would eventually form into the rhino suit, and officially make Alexei into the Rhino. One night, Henry and his wife would discover that Charlie was secretly going to wrestling matches, though they wouldn't discover that she was Spider-Puppet. They try to talk her out of going, for safety reasons, but she ignorantly tells them that it's all okay. It's here where they tell her that "with great power, comes great responsibility." Of course, she takes this with little consideration... until Rhino suddenly barges into the wrestling match out of nowhere. Charlie guides him to the outside of the building, but all this gives is more stuff for Rhino to throw around, including a car that crashes into Henry's car. Upon seeing her parents getting crushed by Rhino, Charlie goes livid. Their fight would take them both through the city of Hurricane, despite their battle being a struggle for her, Charlie would eventually get the better of Rhino and uses all her strength to pin and choke him to death. But upon seeing the crowd of horrified people watching and taking videos, she holds herself back from killing him, and lets him go. Charlie quickly leaves the scene, and heads back to the car. Upon Henry and his wife didn't make it, leaving their daughter filled with guilt and horror, and it's here where Charlie truly understands the definition of "with great power comes great responsibility." And of course, the traditional Spider hugging their version of Uncle Ben. Things only get worse, however, when Sammy and Aunt Jen suddenly show up at the scene. Only to bare witness to Henry and his wife dead in Spider-Puppet's arms, Jen is completely frozen in shock, horror, dread.. And Sammy as well, but he's got the inclusion of RAGE. Charlie's not there when their parents are dead! And who the hell does this girl think she is, after she got them killed because she couldn't save them from the same steel psychopath she brought out into the streets? Upon seeing her aunt and brother, she can't even fathom the words she could use to even attempt to explain and apologize. In shame, Charlie swings away from the scene, and she would never be the same again.
(I'll post another post that goes into further detail)

III 15 Spoilers
Ok gonna talk abt smth interesting related to what I saw someone else say here
(Not gonna say who because I don't want them to potentially be swarmed by the wrath of 1,000 angry cabby fans, apologies if this technically counts as vagueing another person)
But I feel like part of the issue regarding Cabby's files and how they fixed it this episode and why people are still upset (Episode 15 specifically) is that it was never going to have a satisfying and completely perfect fix. There's no way almost anyone was gonna be content after they pulled... that... back in 14.
I applaud them for at least trying and maybe I'm giving the writers way too much credit here, but it was at least better than Cabby disappearing or them not addressing the issue at all, even if I myself could easily nitpick within what they used as the solution to the issue.
I do think that the writers need to strive to be consistently better with representation in general, (like hiring sensitivity readers) but it's a step forward at least.
This isn't me just patting AE's back though, there's still a LOT they could do to make the series much more inclusive and overall fix a lot of their mistakes, and the shit that happened in Episode 14 isn't the only mistake they've made with disability and queer rep.
Overall, I'm cautiously hopeful they could start fixing other things that the fans are upset about, I'm also just hoping the whole Cabby thing now isn't a done deal because people like Test Tube still haven't apologized or even talked it out with her.
Maybe the writers could end up genuinely making really good rep too in the future if they learn how to write disabled and queer characters properly after listening to the fans, but who knows.
Just hoping for the best here, I guess.
EDIT: Also forgot to add this on but considering how Cabby's files have been demonized from the start the bandaid fix definitely won't be enough to reasonably fix the damage they did with how they wrote Cabby.
It's throughout the whole season. Considering how a queer rep character, Paintbrush, has been treated and how they only got a bandaid fix only for AE to make shitty marketable moves with them and booting them as soon as Bot came out during the third season… yeeaaaahhh.
People are reasonably skeptical. I'm not asking them to change the past, they just need to be genuinely more thoughtful and careful going forward.

Boundaries and DNI
Navigation
Tumblr media
DNI if you’re: Transphobic, Homophobic, Antisemitic or spread hate against any religion, Racist, Ableist, support cringe culture or add to it (which is ableist), or anything generally hateful. This is a safe space and I will not tolerate hate here.
Honestly, I block people pretty liberally, so if you're generally being a dick on my blog, bye bye.
I don’t have an age limit on my blog. Partly because I don’t write smut (right now) but even if I did, I wouldn’t care. People are gonna do what they’re gonna do.
Please feel free to send me an ask or DM me! I love talking to new people. However, please be respectful of me and my boundaries.
I ask you to please do not vent or trauma dump in my asks. If you do, I probably will not answer it. However, feel free to tell me about your day or ask for advice!
Talking about suicide, suicidal ideation, severe depression, EDs, or self-harm bothers me, and I won't really talk about it or write about it. If you send an ask about it, I will delete it or will respond with the fact that I would rather not talk about those things. This includes requests and not.
Please do not send sexual asks that are towards me, towards characters are fine.
I have the right to answer what I want in my asks, that both means requests and other stuff. I apologize if I don’t answer something, it’s not personal.
I may not be super active or have an inconsistent writing schedule because of school and life in general. But I will be here!
If you openly and intentionally break my or someone else’s boundaries, especially if it’s repeated, that will result in an instant block. (Again, only if it’s open and intentional. I know mistakes happen.)
Many of the things I am writing about/planning on writing about are about my personal experiences like chronic pain, neurodivergency, sensory overload, etc. The amount of fandom content about them is lacking, and while I try to be general and inclusive, I apologize if the way I write it doesn't fit all experiences since I am writing from my own. I'm also used to writing original work and am still getting used to writing for fandoms, so if you have any tips or criticism on writing for fandoms, how to improve my writing, or to make my writing or formatting more inclusive, feel free to give them to me! I always want to learn more and take feedback.
Also, I'm trying to make my blog as accessible as possible (easy-to-read fonts, readable by screen readers) but if I can improve on something, let me know.
Like a professor in the syllabus at the beginning of class, this may seem strict (idk) but I’m pretty chill. I'm just here to have fun. We vibing.
I hope you enjoy your time here!

hey this is more a request than anything else but even then you don’t have to take it into consideration — but you’re just one of the most inclusive writers on here with your making athena kerner demi and everything so i thought i’d ask — would you mind making red a little bit more racially ambiguous? in that right now with the super blonde baby and her emojis’ colour (small detail, i know, not trying to nitpick, sorry!) she sometimes seems very white? which is completely okay!! just like i prefer x reader fics over ocs primarily because it doesn’t feel so gatekeepy w/ regards to race or body types or whatever, and as a woc it’s just nice to pretend you can live in others’ fictional worlds even if it isn’t like overt representation lol
so sorry if this comes off the wrong way, genuinely a huge fan of yours and your stories, can’t wait to see more xx
Oh, anon... I adressed this topic already on one of the posts. I apologized bc yeah, I realized that I made Red as a white character, but here's the thing: it's kinda difficult to include pictures and make it 'racially ambiguous'. If Red was a black woman, then Liam should have dark skin, if Red was asian, Liam should have asian features. If Red was a Latina, Liam’s skin would also be darker. So it's impossible to show you what kind of pics Jake takes, or the rest of the squad, to make it look a bit more real with all the lockscreens and stuff, without indirectly adressing Red's skin color.
I literally just open pinterest and use whatever pics I find. In my head, Liam was the tiny version of Jake, and I, unintentionally, allowed my work move in that direction.
I'm really, really sorry for that.
I explained that pics are just a reference, because my Pinterest is mainly white folks being aesthetic (good job, pinterest) and even though I tried to look for pics where Red isn't visible, Liam is gonna be everywhere, and in everyone else's mind, he's already a tiny white baby with blonde locks.
It's kinda hard to change that.
I, however, will keep that in mind for the rest of series, one-shots and blurbs I publish in the future. (But for example keep in mind that in Legends Never Die, a retelling with reader being Goose and Carole's daughter... she has to be white.)
I'm not white myself, Spanish people have tanned skin, we're included in the 'Hispanic' ethnicity (some people think it's a race but it isn't). So yeah, here I am, writing about a white woman when I'm not white. But again, let me emphasize that Red's pics are only for reference. I've seen interracial kids with blonde hair too (they're absolutely beautiful). There's cases of black women and white men marrying and surprise! Kid is white. It's rare, but it happens. Maybe Liam could be one of those rare cases in your mind.
It's too late to change that now, and about the emoji, never thought about it cause I have friends from different races who just use the white ones, never gave it a thought. I'll also keep that in mind for the future.
Again, I'm really sorry, but I believe this fic will have to remain as it is, because there's a lot of convos and pictures in said convos that I can't rewrite.
Thank you for adressing the topic ❤️

So I'm excited about the POC characters in the LOTR show if nothing else. But many people in fandom are really nasty about that. Is there anything concrete in canon saying dark-skinned elves are possible existing?
so first off, whatever Tolkien says or does not say ultimately doesn't matter. the existence of people of color in real life is a fact and there is no reason why elves and Men and dwarves can't be racially diverse. it doesn't matter that it's Eurofantasy, it doesn't matter that it's "a mythology for England". nothing about the Legendarium is inherently white in a way that cannot or should not be racebent.
gonna say that again, louder:
it does not matter what the intent was. adding racial diversity to a cast is not dependent upon authorial approval. Tolkien is literally dead and I don't care if this would offend him. I don’t think it would offend him for the reasons I’m including below, but even if it would, that doesn’t matter, racial diversity and an inclusive imagining of this world are more important than the hypothetical feelings of the author.
now. Tolkien was racist. this is an undeniable fact that everybody has to engage with when they read his works. it is uncomfortable equal-opportunity racism where no matter if you’re Black, indigenous, or Asian, he’s said something gross and loaded about you. you cannot avoid this in The Lord of the Rings, though it’s much less present in the Silmarillion and the greater Legendarium. I’ve made a study of his life and I tend to come down on the side of “he wasn’t well-informed enough to be truly aware of the racist aspects of his work, and was echoing stereotypes held by his society or put forward in the literature he drew from as inspiration”. this is for two reasons:
when he did get called out on the antisemitic portrayal of the dwarves in The Hobbit by a Jewish associate he apologized and wrote Gimli in The Lord of the Rings with a care to not behave that way again; Gimli exists almost as an apology for former antisemitism. this demonstrates he can learn and grow when he’s made aware of what he’s doing, and that he’s not doing it on purpose.
he taught nonwhite students at Oxford and none of them have come out and said that he was cruel and racist to them, which indicates at the very least that he was at least capable of respecting their personhood and treating them fairly even if he held racist beliefs. he also spoke positively of at least one of his South Asian students, calling him one of the best English literature scholars he’d encountered, which shows he wasn’t personally malicious.
of course, none of these things matter if you’re a person of color reading his works and you encounter what he wrote. this does not make Tolkien less racist, at all. I am not trying to excuse his racism or say that it doesn’t matter, because it does, and if the fact that it exists is a dealbreaker for you that is fucking understandable. There are parts of The Return of the King that I genuinely cannot fucking read without getting sick to my stomach. The reason I’m trying to provide this context is to show why I, as a scholar, consider his work worth studying and examining and loving despite that flaw, and why I don’t think he’s on the level of someone like Hates Phoreigners Lovecraft. I can’t make that decision for anyone, but that needs to get out of the way first because before I start talking about the genuinely surprising diversity in Arda I need to acknowledge that the guy who was making it diverse didn’t have the best intentions all of the time.
now, onto the actual examination of things. (more below the cut, the tl;dr is ‘dark-skinned elves have exactly as much canonical precedent as Gil-galad being the son of Finrod + a Sinda named Meril, so there’s no reason to discount them. also, the mortal Men and hobbits in Arda have a canonically established range of skin tones even among the heroes, so elves and dwarves having those too makes complete sense.’)
Maeglin is the only elf whose skin tone is ever explicitly mentioned, and it changes between the drafts. In his earliest Book of Lost Tales appearance, he’s “swarthy” and dark-skinned, in his latest appearances he’s pale-skinned. BoLT’s draft has the benefit of being the only complete account of the Fall of Gondolin that we have, which makes it large and weighty and too great to be ignored. In The Shaping of Middle-Earth (I think, that’s off the top of my head but if it’s not in Shaping it’s in Peoples) he’s described as physically resembling his mother and mentally resembling his father. Shaping as a draft is relevant because this is what Christopher Tolkien pulled from to write the ‘Of Maeglin’ chapter in the Silmarillion. If Maeglin is interpreted as both dark-skinned and as resembling his mother, that means Aredhel was herself dark-skinned, and that means her family isn’t white.
(note: Christopher Tolkien, so far as I can tell, invented the idea that Idril and the Gondolindrim found Maeglin disgusting for wanting to marry his cousin from whole cloth. I’ve scoured the drafts and Vinyar Tengwar and all the tidbits I can find and I’ve found absolutely no indication that Tolkien included a taboo against cousin marriage anywhere in his actual writings. he in fact explicitly allows it in one draft of Laws and Customs among the Eldar. In Shaping, Turgon loves and trusts Maeglin but Maeglin is scheming for the throne, and in BoLT - where Maeglin is outright villainous and the most racially loaded - Turgon is opposed to his marrying Idril because he doesn’t think Maeglin will love his daughter, he thinks Maeglin will use her as a tool for political gain. this is not really relevant except to say that Maeglin being seen as disgusting by the Gondolindrim reads in a very loaded and problematic light, and it seems to not be present at all in the original text.)
In most cases, Tolkien doesn’t really describe skin tone, instead reverting to somewhat vague descriptors like ‘pale’ or ‘fair’. I will admit that in a strictly literal interpretation of the text, that does seem to indicate that there’s a relative dearth of heroic elves of color, but I’m going to repeat what I said above (authorial intent does not matter more than making Arda inclusive) and continue on with the fact that ‘pale’ can mean things other than ‘white’.
Plenty of people who are not white are pale, or pale compared to others in their family or community. if you’re committed to a racially diverse Arda, this genuinely should not stop you, and if you’re bothered by people playing with this, that’s a sign you should examine yourself. the same goes with ‘fair,’ which Tolkien uses just as often to mean ‘beautiful’ as to mean ‘light-skinned’ or ‘of a light complexion’. someone can be dark and fair (Lúthien comes to mind) and that’s not a contradiction. again, it does not matter what the author thought, and while this is an admittedly creative reading of the text, it’s certainly not impossible.
We have significantly more textual and paratextual evidence for nonwhite mortals, and frankly that’s what I would consider the biggest evidence for nonwhite elves. And it’s not just the evil Men, either!
Hobbits are a canonically ethnically diverse group with varying skin tones and a lot of intermarriage and ‘mixed-race’ (by contemporary Earth standards) individuals; the smallest Hobbit ethnic group (the Fallohides) is the white one. Sam is darker-skinned than Frodo is, and he’s the true hero of LotR according to the author. And, The Peoples of Middle-Earth confirms that the House of Bëor is brown-skinned, which means Tolkien’s own self-insert Beren is not a white person. If Beren isn’t white, neither are Barahir, Andreth, Emeldir, Aerin, Rían, or Morwen Eledhwen. This means that Dior wouldn’t necessarily be white, and that Elwing, Elrond, and Elros are mixed-race both in terms of their actual bloodline and modern conceptions of the term.
On top of that, Gondor is a canonically racially prejudiced society, but Gondor is racist based on blood and ancestry and not on skin tone and is diverse in terms of the people living there - the Rohirrim are described as paler and lighter-haired than they are, indicating they’re already not white, and when Pippin is watching the reinforcements come into Minas Tirith in the first chapter of RotK he observes that there are some warriors who are significantly darker-skinned-than-the-others but are counted as men of Gondor. Aragorn’s crown as drawn by Tolkien in his letters also bears a resemblance to Egypt’s double crown, and Gondor has a Mediterranean climate, which famously yields extremely white-looking people here on Earth (that’s sarcasm lmao) And if Gondor isn’t white, that means Arnor and the Dúnedain aren’t white either, which means Númenor wasn’t white (Unfinished Tales says that a lot of descendants of the House of Bëor ended up on Númenor, so...)
tbh this indicates to me that we have absolutely no reason why elves - and not just silvan elves or Sindarin elves, Calaquendi too! - can’t be diverse in terms of skin tone and the races of the actors. the only thing stopping anybody is their own racism and their own lack of commitment to diversity. Tolkien was racist, but he’s dead, his ability to impact the world now is dependent upon the fandom and the scholarly community, and I think the way forward is to embrace diversity and also to explore and acknowledge his racism and his failings. crafting a version of Arda where everyone is included is to me reclaiming a space that I was both welcomed by and excluded from, and the fact that this sometimes means standing in opposition to supposed ‘purist’ reads on the text is fine by me.
so... what are we left with?
well, it’s contradictory. we’ve got a racist guy who nonetheless makes his heroic characters explicitly brown, a society that could either be read as very racially segregated or very racially diverse, and a lot of mixed messages (I haven’t delved into his takes on colonialism yet, I do not have the strength for that). It’s a space that has just as much evidence for including people of color as excluding them, and as a result, I say to include. if you’re not for that, you’ve got some self-examination to do.

Note
What I'm nervous for is that they are going to do that thing so often done with anything that has marginalized people as main characters - where they see the low reviews and criticisms of every episode except the last two, and take that as people not liking these characters. Which isn't true, because the predominant problems people are having is the fact that the production value has been far cheaper on the episodes focusing on Boba.
I mean, I love the show but I'll admit that the writing has been... choppy... and cheesy that isn't in the way that's intrinsically SW. And that just frustrates me. It is so disrespectful to the people who saw these characters in screen and felt seen, and to write something so lazy. For the large percentage of good aspects within the show being from the actors and not the writers (mad respect to T.M, but let's be real - it wasn't his responsibility in the first place).
There is no doubt I think for most people that the last two episodes have been very good - but they don't belong. People enjoying them has nothing to do with them liking some characters over others (at least not for most people), but try and catch Disney wrapping their heads around that concept and you're gonna be waiting a long time.
My thoughts of what happened is that they tried to use Boba Fett (a very popular and loved character) as a way to start opening up the universe to new stories. He was more the medium and not the focus of which these stories would center. And that's that problem. If that was their intention, they should have released a different series first. Like "The Stories of Star Wars" or some bs and then have each episode have a focus on a separate character.
THEN, after they got all their shit together, they could actually dedicate a series to Boba Fett, without feeling overwhelmed with too many story ideas needing to be laid out.
I'm just really disappointed. I'm so angry at what they've done and the absolutely disaster that is the production team. And I hate that they made Boba seem like such an important character and than just push him aside like that.
Anyways that is all. I apologize for the unorganized and overly long ramble, these are just some thoughts that have been swimming through my head the past week or so and I needed to get them out
Yes, yes, yes! You summed up what I’m thinking on a lot of points.
I’m worried about the same thing. Disney isn’t going to own up to their mistakes. They’re not going to admit the production was bad, the writing was sub-par, and that they just didn’t give a shit about the show. It’s so much easier to push the blame on people simply not liking or caring about Boba and Fennec. Which is the biggest cop out ever. Rather than admit their wrongs, it’s so much easier to blame the lead actors.
And it’s fucked up because once again, POC are the ones that suffer. It’s an excuse for Disney to keep their predominantly white castings. It’s like they’re using TBOBF as their “I can’t be racist, I have a POC friend” card. They’re going to use it as a way to say “See!!! Look!!! We’re inclusive!!! Look at this show with two, count 'em two, people of color. But it's just that the public didn’t like the characters :((((( So you can’t say we’re racist.”
By far one of the best aspects has been the acting. Tem and Ming-Na truly dedicated themselves to the characters, but there is only so much they can do when it seems like they’re the only ones that cared. It isn’t their responsibility to make the show great. It’s not Tem and Ming-Na directing, writing, producing, acting, etc. — there is a team behind them. It’s everyone’s responsibility to make the show great. To put that burden solely on Tem and Ming-Na’s shoulders is unfair. They did what they could, but they are only two people. The people around them failed.
I totally agree, the writing is choppy and just bad. We know there is some war happening with the Pykes, but there isn’t a clear storyline. It’s muddled together. When you compare it to the writing in The Mandalorian, this one just seems half-assed.
Episodes 5 and 6 don’t add to the story. Both episodes total 100 minutes, and yet maybe 15 of those actually have anything to do with Boba.
They don’t look like they belong in the show. It doesn’t line up with the previous episodes, both in production value and writing. And when these episodes are meant to be a part of a series, they are horrible. Each episode is meant to progress the storyline, and especially since these are the last episodes before the finale, they should be building up to this big crescendo. And we don't have that. It doesn't feel like the story, if there even is any, is ready.
To me, it seems that all their time, effort, and creativity went into episodes 5 and 6 and making sure it ties into season 3 of the Mandalorian. It's like they created episodes 5 and 6, and then realized that they aren't part of the Mandalorian, but The Book of Boba Fett. They didn't know how to tie episodes 1 - 4 into them, so they just took a couple half-baked ideas and smushed them together. It seems like for every minute they spent on episode 1 - 4, they spent an 1 hour on episodes 5 and 6.
Anyway, please don’t apologize for unorganized rambles! As you can see, my ramblings are equally as chaotic 😅

You don’t have to show this but do you think Omera would have gotten more love if she was white? I don’t ship it but her introduction was badass. I’m surprised that Din gets shipped with white bread so much. One he didn’t even speak to. The amount of fics for that compared to him and Omera is insane. I’m hoping they give him a Latina or black women love interest just to see people’s head explode.
I have ZERO issue with posting this publicly cause i wanna say: yes.
I apologize this isn't very well written and very scattered about but here are my thoughts.
PLEASE know I'm not trying to shame any specific writers or readers, I'm just sharing my opinions about the topic.
(in this I'm also gonna be bringing up Ellaria sand because this isn't something only seen with Din, its seen with just about all his characters)
I think it comes to three things that are very prominent in the pedro fandom specifically: white readers not enjoying content written by/presenting woc because they feel like it doesn't directly project themselves, having an odd animosity/jealousy towards romantic leads of pedro characters and flat-out throwing away the actual characterization of his characters just to thirst for him.
Now I will say we do have to acknowledge that I know people don't enjoy that he’s shipped with cobb vanth, because they only had a day of interaction but that’s also a mlm ship in the starwars universe so some people would like to see the representation where they can so lets keep that in mind.
But at the same time I kind of see the mentality of “oh, its not for me? nvm” from fans when the possible romantic character is a person of color because they cant directly relate/project onto them. Which you see a lot with poc writers who make fics that have readers/oc’s that are specifically described as not being white and getting little to no notes. while others making fics that are so specifically for white people with descriptors as such but not acknowledging it when people say “hey you cant really preach inclusivity when this is very clearly written by white women for white women” which you see in moodboards, face claims, and descriptors such as “you blushed bright red” “your pale skin” “your blonde locks” .
another BIG thing that has a part is this weird ass, juvenile wattpad-esque animosity female fans often have towards female characters who have the possibility of being a romantic lead for characters pedro plays. I know it sounds ridiculous to say, but so many fans do have this weird, almost jealous mentality to female characters who are romantic leads/have romantic tension with his character.
Like we see other female leads in the Mandalorian get lots more love than Omera, because they are mostly depicted as having a platonic relationship with Din. For exmaple, Fennec, cara, and peli, I've seen much more content for them than omera because its almost never in a romantic sense.
Hell, before gina carano’s shit went public people were always posting about thirsting for cara dune+ how she and din were best buds and loved the relationship between them.
And lets be real, the amount of fanfiction that the reader is essentially peli (a starky mechanic who befriends mando and becomes a kind figure to the child, who almost always becomes a live-in mechanic on the razor crest) is astronomical. You could literally switch the perspective and slap peli in and it’d make more sense but nobody wants to do that because they want to be with din, not imagine him with another female character cause they get weirdly threatened.
(no shade to people who write that fanfiction im just SAYING)
Its not just mando either, it happens with a lot of his characters who have distinct relationships already, especially with Oberyn Martell and his lover Ellaria.  He says multiple times she is the love of his live, mother of three (i think) of his children and always accompanies him on his travels, when asked if he gets tired of her during their journeys he says “never. We share too much.”
a good majority of oberyn fanfiction either doesn't involve her at all, or writes her off as a bitch to pose animosity between her and the victim-reader or simply write her off as “she and oberyn don't love each other anymore wah-wah” even though she’s is quite literally his soulmate.
He’s also often written to become suddenly monogamous upon meeting the reader, which just seems out of character given he is an openly polyamorous, bisexual man that talks about the joys of living life and loving freely quite often.
Even with Marcus Moreno, when the trailer came out for We Can Be Heroes, I would see people make posts about how they hope he’s a widower instead of a married man cause they want him single.
Now I know a lot of this fandom is straight women so I don't expect them to suddenly enjoy wlw-reader relationships or polyships (even tho they do but only when its two dudes and one girl who is usually the reader but that’s a different issue) It comes down to the simple issues of throwing away the basis of the character just to thirst for pedro. (for oberyn at least)
I know some blogs on here that have gotten anons explaining the reason they dislike Ellaria that are the exact same traits Oberyn has: arrogance, sexual confidence ect. Its hot when he has it but if a female (often of color) has it, shes a bitch for some reason.
Not even gonna get into Dave York, who was a moderately enjoyable character in the film but his character in fanfiction a good 80% of the time is “i like to cheat on my bitch of a wife with you” so lets leave it at that.
Now. let me say there aint no shame in writing smut. I do it. I read it. And i enjoy it! But at somepoint you look at it and go “this isn’t even the character anymore” and find it a bit tiring. As well as the lack of attention writers of color get in the fandom where the main muse literally a latino man but whatever.
This was a very long winded way of saying yes anon, I do think omera wouldve gotten more attention if she was white. But even then people still wouldn’t like her because she would pose a threat to their reader-insets. what are you gonna do I guess lmao

Spoilers for the latest chapter of Something!
I'm gonna go ahead and apologize now because this is long; please feel free to ignore my wordy ass, I just have a lot of feelings about a certain someone that showed up in the new chapter lol.
I am still trying to get my shit together enough to write a proper review, but I did want to come yell at you for making the grape boy somewhat likeable, like...
Firstly, how??? Secondly, why?????!?!
Lmao, in all seriousness tho, it's nice to see him have a personality that isn't just "Mmmm, tits" *drools* I like to think that everyone in the series grows up and (mostly) out of the worst of their habits, and while Mineta is still a bit of a lecher here he isn't nearly as offensive/creepy as he comes off in show. In fact he's actually sympathetic in a lot way. The bit about seeing his first dead body before "getting laid" hit different like... He tries to play it off like a joke, but dude has to have just as much PTSD as the rest of them, maybe even more given that he wasn't able to fight back in the same way as someone like Bkg or Deku would be able to with their super powerful offensive quirks. They were all just kids, but they had to face hell full on from jump, and let me stop before I get too in my feelings lol.
In a lot of ways, he reminds of you the boys from school — crude. Taking for granted the safety from being in a pack, unchallenged. Leering at posters, saying off-colour things because no one corrects them.
That's exactly the way I view him, just a crude little thing that refuses to be put in his place for long lol. Still, with his being a hero I would hope that he keeps a cap on it while he's on the job--in fact I'm sure he does; if he didn't I'm sure that Aizawa would've yanked his licence by now, the likes of Deku and Kiri wouldn't continue to associate with him, and that's saying nothing of the shit that would get posted to social mead and such. I feel like the only reason he says what he says to the Reader is b/c she's a little gremlin herself and he knows he's got a bit more leeway, yanno?
The little hangout session that they had at the end of the chapter was weirdly heartwarming?? I want a friend(???) that I can be a surly little shit with and draw on and that will call my bf that's not really my bf but should be my bf because he's (that is Mineta) got more emotional intelligence than me lmao. Never thought I'd see the day when the grape would make for such an excellent wingman--tho I gotta wonder what that text he sent to Deku said. Probably something along the lines of "come get yo girl, she must be bored/lonely af because she asked to hang out with me" followed by "are you ever gonna close the deal or not? or have you already hit it??? >:)" just to give the guy an extra push (or maybe he's got a better sense of self-preservation than what I give him credit for, idk lmfaooo...)
Okay, this is WAY too long, I just had to get it out of my system lol. I loved the new chapter lots and I cannot wait to see how things play out in the next one!!
LOL, oh Puck, i adore you sdlkfjsdlkfjsdlkfj
me being a shit-stirrer/asking myself questions i don’t have answers for under the cut
Tumblr media
Cat asked me this question earlier today, actually — why Mineta. And honestly? Part of it is the challenge he represents — like, how do you write him into a fic and mature him up so that he’s at the very least, tolerable, but also keep the backbone of his character (which is being a little degenerate). Like, is it possible? One of the most popular tags on ao3 for mineta minoru is something along the lines of “mineta minoru is replaced with shinsou hitoshi” LOL so…….. why didn’t I just use Shinsou? Or Aoyama or Iida, as Cat suggested? And beyond the part of me that delights in giving myself perceived challenges, there were two stark reasons that stuck out to me, when i was first mulling over his inclusion.
1) the fact that he can draw. it’s literally as simple as that. ever since the BNHA exhibition opened up in Japan and it was revealed that there was a scene in there with a class blackboard and the kids having their little drawing competition — and that Mineta was objectively the most skilled — i was like, “i have to include that”. LOL. it’s like you say, Puck, our Reader is a little gremlin herself — i thought if I was going to write a Reader that could handle interacting with him (ie, be in a position to pay him out) it was going to be this one. I think being in the manga industry and starting out on this journey of creating and drawing a Shonen manga sort of put Reader in this unique position of… being in what seems like a boys’ club? So she’d be used to the male gaze within her field. I follow Horikoshi’s assistant (former assistant?) on twitter and let me tell you, that man is not shy about the things that he likes to draw LOL.
the 2) thing was the philosophy i’ve sort of accidentally given myself LOL and that’s the fact that — as a Bakugou stan, if i’m giving grace to a character who was a literal violent bully then………. i can use my magic powers and hand it around to the other characters, too, LOL. and like, i would argue that with Bakugou it’s different, like we’re currently seeing in the manga how he has grown and learnt and is actively changing, which is the key to any kind of redemption. do i think Mineta will ever undergo that in cannon? absolutely not lmao, i see him as being being Hori’s idea of comedic relief, he’s always going to be a horrible little degen. but i want it for him…… if only to justify why the boys of Class-A collectively ignore his bullshit, for the most part? Like, none of them actively call him out on it?? i think of the time he tried to climb the wall to spy on the girls in the onsen — and how it was literally only Iida scolding him and how it took a child to stop him. Or the one when he found the stupid hole into the girl’s changing room and while the boys all looked grossed out….. Jirou’s the one that point an end to that?????? I saw a TikTok (derogatory) suggesting how like, none of the girls of Class-A would trust Aizawa, as adults, because he didn’t do anything to put an end to Mineta’s bullshit, and it was a devastating suggesting. None of us want to believe that our favourites would be passively okay with this kind of behaviour, right?? Which means……. Mineta’s gotta change LMAO. And if Hori isn’t going to do it then imma borrow him and do it myself. Does it work? I have no idea LMAO i can’t judge anymore, my meter is broken. but i’m gonna work with what i’ve given myself and it either will, or it won’t LMAOOOO kldsfjlksdjflkdj fic is about having fun at the end of the day. :’)
But it’s like you point out, Puck — Mineta is also a child, when these kids get trotted out to their first War. And he’s also not as offensively built as the hard-hitters like Deku and Bakugou and Shouto are. Even if it’s not explored in the manga, that War is going to change them all somehow.
So, my gameplan for Mineta was to grab ahold of the tiny things about him — the talent for drawing, the like one [1] observation he has about the wreckage of the war/pro heroes during the war arc, his tears for Bakugou when B wakes up afterwards and how he tells Deku how cool he was and how much he admires him, in the current Bring Deku Home chapters — and try to envision a sleaze bag who learns that the bullshit he pulls won’t be tolerated, even if he’s still ultimately a skeeze LOL. i mean, he’s never going to drop that er…. appreciation for the female form. and i mean, hey, live your best life King, i’ve distinctly noticed a hand-fetish floating around on this site lately so i’m not gonna be like “NO men can’t like ANYTHING”. But the thing with him being a sleaze and open with his leering is like, he’s actively made the girls of his class uncomfortable with that in the past — how do you write it so that he’s not doing that in a position of power with the women he works with (and saves!), as an adult?? Maturity only goes so far. How much can I bank on the war and the subsequent bullshit they’re gonna face from it on…. transforming him??? It shouldn’t be up to the girls he’s learning with to police him, they’re just children. I have a vague gameplan for it — whether or not it works will be one thing; whether i can naturally shove it into the fic is another, LOL. Guess we’ll see. 🧐
SAYING ALL THAT,,,,, i’m actually really glad you liked (???) the ending scene with him because it’s my favourite LMAO lkdjflkdsjflkdjfkldsjf. 😭😭 Reader is by no means perfect, and she and Mineta both need to start treating each other with more respect, but her bullying of him was fun to write and I like imagining a Mineta who considers himself to be close with Deku (whether or not Deku thinks the same is up for debate) going along with it. i could see this version of Mineta being enough of a shit-stirrer to say something like, “gotta lock that shit down” to Deku LMAO kdfjlkdsjflkdsfjdklsfj and then getting left on a skyscraper somewhere…. RIP short King.

So, you're the closest thing I have to a "friend"* in fandom, and you seem to know your fandom history and have a level take on a lot of things, so I hoped I could bother you for your opinion on something. This is a long and kind of heavy/complicated question so if you don't have the mental space for it, please feel free to disregard it entirely.
So, I absolutely adore an anime (My Hero Academia), and I really want to write for it, but I personally headcanon my favorite character (Shoto Todoroki) as having DID. I've written a lot of personal snippets for myself about it and done lots of research because it sort of became a new special interest for me, and I really want to start writing proper fics and sharing them again. However, my problem is sort of twofold.
I don't want to insult people who actually live with DID by writing a character that is inaccurate, and I know research will only get me so far. I understand that stories don't have to be perfectly realistic in fanfiction contexts (eg, the difference between posting Master of the Universe vs Fifty Shades of Grey) but I don't want to cause more harm to an already marginalized community, even if unintentionally.
The other issue is that the fandom is kind of known for being incredibly toxic in some circles, especially on platforms like tiktok and twitter. I worry that even if I openly say I want criticism on my stories so I CAN do better, I'll just get flooded with hate comments about it not being canon, or arguing about basic shit like how I portray my characters vs how they perceive them from the show, rather than getting any actual feedback that could help.
I really love this fandom, and I really want to get back in to writing. It was one of the few things that gave me joy before my entire life turned upside down, and I want to get back to doing things that make me happy. But I've had so many bad experiences with harassing comments that I'm not sure how to move forward with wanting to continue, much less when I want to touch such a delicate topic.
*I use this term incredibly loosely, I just follow you and appreciate your content and you were the first person to pop in my mind when someone said ask a friend about it, I sincerely apologize if that upsets or offends you in any way
So here’s the thing, right.
I did once read a fic where Bucky Barnes had DID because of his lifelong trauma. I thought it was a well-thought-out fic, unique and memorable, and I don’t feel like it was toxic or harmful in its portrayal, but I also don’t have DID.
I don’t know how someone living with it experiences that fic or the one you would write.
I would recommend a sensitivity reader rather than declaring open season in the comments. I would recommend getting one before you even start the fic, actually, because you don’t know whether or not the idea/plot itself will be harmful to them as a whole and you don’t want to go through that much work only to figure out you have to scrap it all.
The other thing I will say is that you’ll have to prepare yourself for the harassing comments. I hate them, I don’t agree with them, I will do everything in my power to fight them and teach better etiquette, but this is the internet and people are NOTORIOUSLY ASSHOLES on the internet.
Even with a sensitivity reader that okays a story, people are gonna try to come at you that don’t experience the issues or even know someone who does, bc they like to be Performatively Woke In Public for the kudos or whatever.
So you really gotta weigh whether or not you wanna rock that boat or if you just want to share your story with a privileged few. It might be easier that way.
I hope this helps? Even a little bit?
And good luck!
EDIT: Actually, I thought about this as soon as I hit post, so lemme add
If your story ideas are about the DID experience itself, I wouldn’t recommend writing that. Having a story with a certain type of character with a completely separate plot is inclusive and I encourage that, but when it comes to stories that are “experiences with x” exclusively, it’s one of those “own voices” things.
Allow queer people to write queer experiences, black people to write black experiences, etc. But absolutely include these kinds of characters in your fantasy/sci-fi story where that isn’t the plot itself.

I'm curious about your take on Wakanda being wronged hard in FaTWS, and by Bucky specifically? I haven't seen many people talk about it, but I'm just angry and confused as to why Bucky was to careless and rude towards Ayo and the Dora Milaje, acting as if their anger about Zemo was an overreaction. Hell, Walker got more respect from him in the end than the Dora did
I'm looking at the writers' perspective here, it was their decision and I'm wondering why. What was the thought behind it? Why did they make Bucky so insensitive? At first I thought it had to be some arc, but nothing came from it. I'm wondering what made them look at this series and think "Yes, let's make Bucky screw over the people that helped him".
It wasn't just him wronging Wakanda, it was his behavior towards Sam too, how he was so ignorant during the cop scene, dismissive of Sam's feelings, and obsessed with the shield to a point of lashing out at Sam for things that weren't his fault. Why was this a choice that was made? Bucky didn't have much personality in the other movies, they could've done anything but they chose this, and I think more people should talk about how wrong that is. Not for Bucky, but for the black people in the series who were wronged.
Okay so here’s the deal. One, I’m white, so know that going in, take my take on this for whatever it’s worth accordingly. Two, I haven’t watched the eps since they aired, with the exception of a couple scenes, so my memory—not so much of events but of specific nuances of how Bucky reacted to them—isn’t fresh.
I say that last part specifically because of Bucky and his interactions with Sam, because ultimately they bother me much less than the Wakanda stuff, and here’s why. Bucky is, to varying degrees depending on situation and episode, a dick to Sam about the shield for most of the series. Undoubtedly. But I get that, to a point. He at least explains his feelings in 1x05, why he reacted like that, and admits he fucked up. He had all his feelings for Steve wrapped up, incorrectly, in that shield, so when Sam just tossed it aside (from Bucky’s perspective), it caused him to freak out/lash out. Which was never fair to Sam, but at least culminated in Bucky recognizing that. Sam keeps saying to him that the two of them have not lived the same experience, the shield and its legacy do not mean the same thing to them, and Bucky finally realizes that. He acknowledges that neither he nor Steve grasped the full reality of the situation, and he apologizes. Does that erase what came before? No, but it’s not supposed to. It’s him acknowledging his own ignorance and trying to do better.
So, at least there’s an arc there, which is the other reason his stuff with Sam bugged me less. There was an evolution in his thinking, there was a change from wah wah, you gave up the shield, to oh wait, I kinda get it now. He realizes that his reactions were wrong, even if his feelings were understandable. Which, on a human level, I think they were. It’s a very human thing for Bucky to equate that shield directly to Steve, and take Sam’s rejection of it as a rejection of Steve. It’s understandable how he got there, given the bizarre nature of Steve’s time travel shenanigans, the nearly endless nightmare that Bucky’s life has been since he fell from the train. Losing yet another 5 years when he’s already lost 70+, all the unprocessed guilt and grief that isn’t helped by him having actually the worst therapist ever, oh my God this woman sucks at her job, she’s funny, but she’s awful. His feelings, I believe, were valid, given everything that went down. His reaction to them—the lashing out, whining, refusing to see Sam’s side of it—his reaction was not valid. But at least he gets to a point where he realizes that. At least there’s an arc.
Could they have found a different way to create conflict in the series? Sure, and I’m not gonna argue with anyone who wishes they had. For me personally, I was okay with it. Bucky’s ignorance and misplaced anger made sense to me. Bit of an aside, one of the few scenes I rewatched for this (because Youtube and knowing exactly where it was) was the cop scene, because you referenced. I’m assuming you mean the bit where Sam gets stopped, gets the ‘calm down sir’ treatment. I didn’t think Bucky was a dick in that scene? He seemed aware of what was happening, given his angry, “No he’s not bothering me, do you know who this is?” It’s actually one of a relatively few instances in the first 5 eps where Bucky does seem genuinely aware that he and Sam don’t live in the same world, even when they’re walking the same street, right next to each other. So, as far as illustrating that, and Bucky coming out of his own feelings long enough to pay attention to Sam’s, I thought it was one of the better scenes.
So, Sam and Bucky, I’m less bothered by. Bucky and Wakanda? That’s a hot garbage fire.
Zemo’s whole inclusion here, and nearly everything related to it, was incredibly botched. He’s randomly rich as fuck now, and a Baron, to match his comics counterpart. Which is not only an incredibly lazy retcon, it kills much of what made his character interesting in CW. In that movie, it was one guy, working alone, limited resources, dedicating himself to his cause. If nothing else, you had to admire his tenacity. Now suddenly he’s got a butler and a plane and piles of cash? Where was that in CW? More importantly…why? What purpose did it serve, besides making him more superficially similar to his comic self?
Why did we detour to him at all? None of his plans ultimately affect the larger narrative all that much. He starts out in prison and…ends up back in prison. Why? Why would the Dora just leave him there? Ayo says that they will bring Zemo back to face Wakandan justice…and then they just don’t. They leave him in the hands of the same people who lost him to two random dudes who were able to bust him out of prison on their own, one of those dudes being an entirely human guy, no enhanced powers, no Serum. In CW, okay, T’Challa did a deal with Everett Ross I guess, fine. But once the Americans proved they couldn’t hold him, it made no sense that the Dora would just go, okay, here you go again. They aren’t Batman. They have no reason to keep throwing the baddies in Arkham Asylum to wait ‘til next week when someone breaks out again.
The Zemo stuff had no arc to it. The only worthwhile thing was Bucky proving to Zemo that he can’t be controlled anymore, but that scene could have come about in a million better ways than it did. Ultimately, the weird little team-up with Zemo feels very cliché and contrived. It feels like a trip down a side road that dead ends to nowhere. It feels like filler, which is a particularly terrible crime when there’s only 6 episodes in the damn season.
Bucky’s dickishness towards Ayo and the other Dora really is baffling, especially when the writers went out of their way to give us that flashback, a direct, show don’t tell indication of all the Wakandans did for him. And it’s not his feelings for Steve that have him acting out this way, or at least it shouldn’t be. Steve has nothing to do with this aspect of things. Steve obviously had trust in and respect for T’Challa, and there’s no reason to think that wouldn’t extend to the Dora as well. Strong, badass women who put it all on the line for their country? Yeah, Steve should/would get that. He would have broken Zemo out of prison, if he thought it was the right call to make, but he also would’ve been like yeah, I did that, I understand that I fucked you over, I’m fully prepared to accept the consequences of that once my mission is complete, I’m sorry it went down like this. See the, “I’d like to surrender myself for disciplinary action,” he gives Phillips in First Avenger, after he goes to rescue the 107th. If it’s an authority he respects and acknowledges as having good intentions (Phillips as opposed to the Accords), Steve will ultimately give that respect back, even if he goes off to do his own thing first. He respected T’Challa and Wakanda. Bucky should have respected them even more, given his more direct connection, given the flashback scene in FatWS, given his acknowledgement that Wakanda and it’s people gave him a rare respite, a calm in the shit storm that’s been his life since 1945.
So yeah, it doesn’t make sense that he was so flippant and dismissive towards Ayo and the rest. It makes even less sense that they put up with it. It’s bad writing, that’s all I’ve got. The show is incredibly irritating, in that a lot of the plot-driven stuff is pretty fucking awful, but most of the character study stuff for Sam and Bucky is so good.

Could you do something where MC is swedish? (I'm swedish and I don't see much about it regarding MM ^^)
Hello there! Our former Mod Yoo did this ask and she sent me her responce to this ask. ~Madre Mod
Hej! Louise. Tack! For your ask. You’re absolutely right, I have to confess that I’m not familiar with Swedish culture other than the fact that I love going to IKEA for some very mystical reasons so I’ve done some very simple research before writing this answer, I hope you’ll like it. Do let me know if there’s anything to improve. Love, Mod Yoo.Here’s a little something for MM Characters x Swedish Fem!MC. Inclusive of a random favourite food canon for each pair, from MC’s home country.
Yoo-sung Kim
- His attention was drawn to MC in the lobby of his campus, she wasn’t smiling a whole lot.
- Doesn’t stop him from thinking that she looks totally stunning.
- He wanted to talk to her so badly but is worried that he’d scare her off.
- Got to know from some of his university peers that she’s an exchange student from Sweden.
- Realises that he knows nothing about her birth country.
- He finally mustered enough courage to go up to her and said hi.
- “Hi, My name is Yoo-sung Kim, I’m a final year student here. I heard that you’re on a student exchange program. I hope you’ve made yourself comfortable around here. You can talk to me if you need any help,”
- Before she could say anything, he excused himself and paced away quickly trying to cool down his searing hot cheeks.
 - It took her awhile to approach him again, his patience was running out. “Was I too eager? Have I scared her off? Maybe she’s just not interested…” Random thoughts like these kept flashing across his mind.
 - “Hi, you’re Yoo-sung, right? The one who spoke to me in the students’ hall and left in a hurry.” He turned around to find her across him along the corridor.
- He swore he could feel all his blood rise to his cheeks again. “Yes, that’s me. How can I assist you today?”
- To her, he seemed genially shy, kind and helpful, so she decides to trust him.
- “I don’t need anything particular, thank you. Perhaps, would you like to Fika after classes later?”
- “F-fika?” Suddenly he remembers about his research. “O-of course, I’d love to.”
- That was the start of a beautiful friendship. This pair enjoys Kanelbullar (Cinnamon Rolls), Kottbullar med brunsas (Meatballs in Cream Sauce) and Vasterbottenpaj (Cheese Pie)
Zen a.k.a. Hyun-ryu
- The moment he saw her at one of his musical practice, he thought she’s beautiful. In fact, she’s more beautiful than himself to him.
- “Hey Min-soo ya.” He called out to one of his production crew. “Who’s the little lady in a grey sweater? I’ve never seen her before.”
- “Oh! You mean MC. She just arrived this morning. Heard from Mr Director that she’s an intern who’ll be helping us to prepare for the performance.”
- “Ah, where’s she from?” He asked. “Sweden. If I remembered correctly.”
- He grabbed an extra bottle of water and walks up to MC.
- “Hi MC, it’s your first day today. I’m Zen, one of the actor in this performance.” He beamed and continued “May I know the major of your studies?”
- MC was caught off guard by him towering over her. He’s so fair… Good looking, too.
- “Oh. Uh. Yea. Fine Arts.” Is what she managed to utter, looking down at her shoes. She hoped that he hadn’t notice the dusting of pink over her cheeks.
- He was alotwhoyoukiddingzen a little disappointed sensing the indifference in her reaction, but shook it off and handed her the water bottle nonetheless.
- “Oh. Okay, sure. Keep yourself hydrated and take care, I’m just gonna go and resume practice.” Slowly withdrawing his steps from her and goes back on stage.
- Practice for the day has finally come to an end. He was packing up when he heard someone say something.
- “Hello. My name is MC, the girl from earlier.” He was surprised, “Of course, MC. Is there anything you need? I hope your day went well.”
- “I’m good, thanks. I apologise that I sounded aloof earlier, I don’t do well in front of new people. I’ve watched you practice and wondered… If you could explain this part of the music and facial expression to me?”
- He scrunched his face funny and sang a few verse.- His grin got wider as she snorts and chuckled.
- “You know what? Come on, let’s go to Hemlagat idontknowhowhefoundit, I heard they’re famous in Seoul. I haven’t tried Swedish food before, I’m starving. Care to join me for dinner? My treat.” He asked, hopeful that she’d agree.
- “No.” His heart sank. “I’ll go with you only if I’m paying for my own share.”
- They had a great time at dinner, sharing the same passion for fine arts. Deep down, they hoped to see more of each other in the future. This pair enjoys Gubbrora (Egg Salad with Anchovies), Kladdkaka (Sticky Chocolate Cake) and Spenatsoppa med agg (Spinach Soup with Soft-boiled Egg & Horseradish)
 Jae-hee Kang
- “Mr Han. Please tell me that you’re joking. This is her first time in Korea.”- “I’ve personally gone through her resume, it’s quite impressive. She’ll make a good assistant for you. It’s final. You’ll expect her here in an hour.”
- She’d known that it’s impossible to change her boss’s decision to hire her a Swedish assistant. “What is he thinking! How long am I expected to train her…”
- “Good morning, Ms Kang?” Her chain of thoughts broken at the greeting.
- “Yes. I’m Jae-hee Kang, Chief Secretary for the Executive Director. I assume you’re MC?” She said as a matter-of-factly as possible, trying to stay calm.
- “You’re right. I understand your concern about my lack of local working experience in this country. I can assure you, that you’ll not be disappointed.”
- “Ah, that’s good to know. Thank you.” She’s genuinely amused by MC’s professional attitude. Things doesn’t look as dull as it seemed before.
- As she spends months down the road having MC as her assistant, her workload has been delegated and more effectively completed.
- She respects that MC is humble, a vigorous planner, independent, and doesn’t let her emotions affect work.
- They’ve since became such good friends, to which she’s very grateful of.- She holds very high hopes for MC to have a bright future in C&R, and is determined to groom MC to take her own place in case if anything happens to herself.
- Both of them loves coffee so much that they’d almost always spend their free time cafe hopping around town. This pair enjoys Lingonparfait (Lingonberry Parfait), Flugande jakob (Baked Chicken with Bananas and Peanuts) and Jordgubbar med mjolkoch socker (Strawberries with Milk and Sugar).
Ju-min Han
 - He met one of the most beautiful woman he’s ever come across in C&R’s annual business forum.
- He’s never seen someone so graceful with her every gesture.
- Despite having dealt with many kinds of people from the opposite gender.
- For the first time, he could feel that she’s different from the others.
 - His confidence to approach her slowly ebb away.
 - He stood deep in thoughts while waiting for his wine to be refilled.
- Only to have his mind yanked open on a soft voice “Mr Han, Jumin?”
- There she was right in front of him, both hands holding a glass of wine.
- “I noticed that you needed to focus on something in your head so I took the honour to…”
 - Before she could complete her sentence, he’d already have one of the glass in his hands.
- “My apologies, I’ve had a small moment of absent-mindedness there. I shouldn’t have let such a special person like you be looking out for me.” He barely managed to cover up the stammers in his own voice. juminhannostammers.
- She lightly chuckled as she passed him a piece of note. In the most soothing voice she said “It’s been my honour. I’ve to excuse myself to another event with my colleague, take care.” before stepping away.
- When she’s finally disappeared from his sight, he opened her note that reads, “No matter what you’re thinking, never forget that you’re special. Everything is going to be okay. I’d like to see you again if it’s okay with you… There’s a (name of Swedish restaurant) beside my hotel, where we can meet at 8 p.m. tomorrow evening, before my flight home the next day.”
- He then takes a sip of wine, his eyes widen when he noticed a perfectly full lipstick stain, a small smile and blush immediately crept on his face as her message flashes across his mind again. This pair enjoys Inkokta Paron (Poached Pears with cinnamon, vanilla and whipped cream), Biff Ryberg (Beef Ryberg), and Gravad Lax Med Potatissallad (Cured Salmon with potato salad).
Saeyoung Choi
- This secret agent was on a mission in Sweden when he spotted an angel.
- He was lying in ambush from a target.
- There was a crying little girl who stood by the side of the road across him.
- It was then when he saw his angel walked up towards the crying child, gently taking the child’s hand and started having small pep talks.
- Her attempt to soothe the child was more than miraculous.
- All he sees are now smiles and nods.
- He swore his heart had halted as his sight shifted to the suspect exiting the building behind them, and he.had.a.weapon.
- Decided it was too risky to take the shot, he leaped out from hiding and attempted to subdue his target away from possibly harming his angel and the child.
- Despite receiving some bruises and cuts, he manage to pin the man down in waiting for the authorities to arrive.
- The child’s parents was also notified and they came to pick them up.
- After all the commotion when everything seems to be settling back to normal, “Well… Hello to my stranger-knight-in-shining-armour…” omgdidanangeljustspoke “The name’s 707, o-or you can call me Luciel, I’m sure you’ve been frightened earlier but I’m glad that no one’s hurt.”
- “That’s all thanks to you, Luciel… You look like no one from around the area. If you don’t mind, I’d like to invite you to my place, where your injuries can be tend to and you can catch some rest too. As a bonus, my parents are great cooks.”
- “Sounds like a wonderful idea.” Saeyoung says as he contemplates in his mind. He’ll leave at dawn and before anyone realises and he’ll never see her again.
- He quietly exits the back door after leaving her family a thank you note. He’s never felt this sad in a long time.
- To his greater surprise, he found a small handmade pouch in his bag containing all the med supplies she used to treat him and a piece of blank paper. “Wha..?”
- His tears flowing when the handwritten message appeared on the paper before his lighter.
- “I don’t know anything about you, except your name; but I’ve got an inkling. Please take care of yourself and be safe in everything you do, in my heart I’ll always keep you. I know you’ll come back for me one day.” idiedheretooThis pair enjoys Shu Sorters Kakor (7 kinds of cookies), Raggmunk Med Rimmat Sidflask (Potato Pancakes with bacon and Lingonberry jam), and Janssons Frestelse (Jansson’s Temptation).

What do you think Ouma would have been like if he survived to the end of the game? Or what about just outside of the game, like in an au where this game didn't happen? (I'm sorry I just love his character and I want the next game(?) that says no one ever died and they're all living happily)
Tumblr media
There’s no need to apologize! Ireally love these particular questions, and it’s not exactly a secret that Oumais my favorite DR character—I would honestly have loved to see him survive, moreso with what an important, vital character he was to the whole game evenafter his death. The fact that even after dying, Ouma was essentially “present”at both the Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 trials (first because of the Exisal planwith Momota, then because of all the clues, hints, and mysteries surroundinghim that led to them finding out so much of the truth) has always struck me asvery, very interesting. And he had so much potential as a survivor, especiallywith his cover blown and his plans against the mastermind made clear.
I’ve actually talked a littlebit about my ideas on this before, in a post here a while back! And some peoplelike @klepotmaniac and @ouma–kokichis have also expanded on the idea and beeninterested in it! I still feel like there was real potential to take the Exisalplan in Chapter 5 and take it in another direction entirely. It was stillincredibly amazing with how well done it was in-game, of course, but I feellike there was definitely a very noticeable opening there where Ouma couldactually have been one of the survivors.
The most interesting thing, ofcourse, is that Ouma would have lived through that event without wanting to. Heclearly was very willing to die in Chapter 5. His death was entirely avoidable, and if he’d wanted to throw Maki and Momota to the wolves and just hole himselfup in the Exisal to be malicious, he easily could have. Instead, he chosewillingly to give the antidote to Momota instead, have Momota be the one tocarry out the plan in the Exisal, and went completely willingly to his deathunder the press, all because he could strike back at the mastermind. And Maki, who did honestly, truly intend to kill him, didn’t have to be executed as aculprit.
I feel like if Momota hadrealized what Ouma was trying to do with the antidote ahead of time and refusedto drink it, things could’ve gotten really interesting. Because Momota wouldn’twant to die from the poison and therefore make Maki into a killer, but he alsorealized that his time was limited no matter what he did. Even without thepoison, his sickness was just about ready to kill him, as is clear from how hedies only midway through his own execution later on.
And Momota is such a shounenprotag at heart: if there’s a way to avoid the biggest number of sacrificespossible, he’ll take it. He wants to fight people, but he doesn’t want them todie. Had he realized exactly what Ouma was trying to pull, and realized thefact that there was no need for Ouma to die, I think it’s entirely possible hewould’ve thrown Ouma’s plans off somewhat by just refusing to drink theantidote. If that were to happen, both of them would die, Maki would beexecuted for a double-murder just like Korekiyo, and nothing about the killinggame would change at all.
So very bitterly andreluctantly, I think Ouma would spell out his whole plan about trying to usethe press to discover the cause of death and identity of the victim/culprit,hoping that by making it super clear he could get Momota to go along with it.And the plan is brilliant, of course, but it would still require one of thembeing a victim and the other being a culprit, except for one thing: contrary toOuma’s expectations, it’d be perfectly possible for Momota to kill himselffirst, and then for Ouma to disguise the state of the body, cause of death, etc. using the press afterwards.
In a very Sakura-like twist fromdr1 where Momota is both the culprit and the victim of his own murder, there’dbe two lives saved rather than one.And the whole plan with the Exisal, and confusing Monokuma, would still work. The Exisal would still protect Ouma from Maki trying to kill him (because shewould, undeniably want to kill him, blaming him for Momota’s death).
And no matter how tired he wasand how ready he to die he was after all the shit he’d gone through in thekilling game, I don’t think Ouma would have ultimately been able to convinceMomota out of it. If it were an all-or-nothing situation where they were goingto keep being stubborn, and considering how little time they had before theeffects of the bomb wore off and the cameras came back, I think Ouma would havehad no choice but to compromise. Momota and Ouma lay out a plan for Momota tokill himself in the machinery bay first, Ouma drinks the antidote for real thistime so he’s no longer being slowly poisoned to death, and after the deed isdone, Ouma disguises the truth about the body with the press.
With Ouma in the Exisal insteadof Momota, the whole catbox plan regarding the victim’s identity probably would’vebeen taken even further than before. The things Ouma managed to convey just byhaving Momota act them out with a script he provided, Ouma himself would beable to perform a million times more convincingly—and that’s saying something, since Momota was already a pretty damn convincing actor. Meanwhile, littletip-offs and slip-ups in the trial would’ve caught his notice, probably, including things about the Remnants of Despair, Junko, the whole “hope vs.despair” language the others were now talking in, etc.
But what Momota knew in Chapter5, Ouma clearly knew too, because the hints he left behind were so obvious, andno matter how badly he wanted to strike back at the mastermind, he was neverwilling to bet anyone else’s lives to do it, because lives are so important tohim. They both knew Saihara would ultimately reach the truth of the matter, ifgiven enough time. And so Saihara, having to disregard all his previousmisconceptions, and having to deal with Maki still convinced and unshakable inher belief that Ouma is the culprit, would manage to reach the truth that Oumais the one in the Exisal but didn’t kill Momota at all, and that Momota killedhimself and let his body be crushed after death precisely because the detailswould be closed up into a catbox.
If Ouma had truly wanted toeven in-game, much less in this AU idea I’m discussing, he could’ve made theChapter 5 trial into a real catbox. There was absolutely no reason for him totell Momota to leave the clues he did, including his shirt in the toilet, thecamcorder video of “Momota” being killed under the press, or Momota’s jacketsleeve poking out from under the press—unless he definitely did not want to risk everyone’s lives forreal, and he knew that Saihara wouldreach the truth once he had those clues in hand.
And if he were a survivor, he’dknow it too. If Saihara were able to reach the truth in spite of everything, and particularly in spite of what a convincing villain routine Ouma had beenrunning ever since Chapter 4, I think even Ouma would come out of that Exisal. After a whole trial of a convincing, super dramatic act full of questions like “Whoam I?” and “Who are you guys gonna vote for?”, at the very end I think Ouma woulddecide to “open the catbox.”
And rather than pulling anyfurther acts or facades or routines, I think he’d just be blank. Shaky, from nearly being poisoned to death before, andtired, and further traumatized by Momota having died in front of him. Therewouldn’t be any further need for his usual acts and routines, because Saiharaalready reached the truth of his plans to confront the ringleader, and alreadyknows now that Ouma himself is not the ringleader. And I think while stilllooking very blank and neutral, Ouma would tell them all the entire truth ofwhat happened in the machinery bay.
There would be so muchpotential for his inclusion into the group at this point. I’ve thought about ita lot. While it’s certainly true that Ouma did things, horrible things, inorder to progress with his plans this far, it’s also true that the whole groupwould’ve died without his help in previous cases. And rather than realizingthat he was trying to literally stop the killing game once and for all, it’strue that the entire group reacted against him, and that Maki in particularwent off right into the real ringleader’s plans and tried to torture and killOuma to death despite promising not to try anything of the sort in front ofthem all.
There were definitely mistakeson both sides, and Ouma’s desperation to end the game and disgust at the ideaof killing and murder is precisely the reason he was so willing to try and lethimself die under that press. But since he’s now essentially living on forMomota’s sake, because it’s a sacrifice Momota was willing to make for thewhole group, now he has to stick around, and he hardly even feels like it,because he already had to compromise his morals and dirty his hands.
But the truth Saihara wouldhave reached in this scenario isn’t just that Ouma wasn’t the culprit  of that particular case, or the ringleader—it’sthat despite Ouma’s act, and all his claims, he’s not evil. He’s not irredeemable.
With Ouma on their side, theChapter 6 investigation would have been so much fun. The group would still havebeen reacting to having him actually included as one of their number, ratherthan just a figure to be reviled. Maki, while still probably unable to bringherself to like or trust Ouma entirely, wouldn’t have been able to help feelingsomewhat guilty, I think, considering it’s her own actions, not Ouma’s, thatwound up getting Momota killed—and because she almost got Ouma killed too, eventhough he was never the ringleader or the leader of the Remnants of Despair atall.
The trial with Tsumugi wouldhave been an absolute blast. I’vepointed out that there are some pretty blatant contradictions in some of thelies Tsumugi tells them all, particularly when she starts aiming for thingslike their romantic feelings or emotions, and when she brings up “every singledevelopment being part of her scenario” (because things like Momota’s illnessclearly contradict this).
Even though the rest of thecharacters were far too traumatized and shocked by these realizations to noticewhere it was obvious that she was lying, I feel pretty sure that Ouma wouldhave noticed. And after quite a while of being blank and unsure how exactly toproceed within a group that he had felt isolated from for so long, I think he’dreally find himself slipping back into the role he does best, and some of hismost fun sprites and dramatic routines would’ve come back in the Chapter 6trial.
No matter how much Tsumugiwanted to make things into a real catbox of her own in Chapter 6, with all thecharacters unable to prove or disprove anything about her fictional scenarios,Ouma is very skilled at pinpointing other’s lies, precisely because he deals inlies himself. There would’ve been so much potential for him to really shake herarguments in Chapter 6, and I’m kind of sad that we’ll never get to see itoutside of some potential fanart or fanfictions.
Chapter 6 features so muchabout the characters being led to believe that they were not necessarily thebest people before entering the killing game. It’s impossible for them to knowthe truth about themselves one way or the other: everything, from their memoriesto their backstories to their talents, is called into question, and they haveto live with knowing that it’s incredibly likely that they signed themselves upfor this kind of game. And still, they decide to embrace the identities theyhave within the game. Even if they’re just fiction, even if their identitiesare “lies,” they’re real to them, precisely because of what they’ve been through.
But so much about Ouma is thatby knowing ages before the rest of them that these things are lies, he has nosense of identity. The reason he calls into question things like “common sense”and “reality” within his FTEs, even the very early ones with Kaede, is becauseOuma knows that nothing is trustworthy in this game. Not his talent, not hismemories, and not the people around him. So much about his prison mode ending, too, is about trying to “discover” himself and figure out who he really is ormight become—and I would have loved to see this explored with him as asurvivor.
If most of the rest of the gamehad proceeded the same, and they had all decided to abstain from voting inorder to flip a giant middle finger to the killing game and the audience atlarge, then I could see Ouma winding up as a survivor exactly the same asSaihara, Maki, and Himiko do. And it would have been very rewarding, in a way,to see him get the chance to see the hole in the dome representing the way tothe outside world, and realize that he had in fact accomplished some of what heset out to do.
If there’s a character arc I’ma sucker for, it’s atonement. Even if there are things that a character can’tever be forgiven for, even if they’ve done awful things and can’t forgivethemselves, I honestly enjoy characters who try to atone anyway, precisely becausethey’ll never be forgiven, but they can at least lessen their guilt somewhat. And I think Ouma would fit into this kind of trope quite well as a survivor—andI think that even if he wasn’t sure of “who” he was or what would be on theother side of that dome awaiting them, with the killing game over once and forall, I think he’d honestly, finally be able to start trusting Saihara and theothers as a group.
The end of ndrv3 deals so much “lies”becoming “truths,” and therefore being accepted as reality no matter what otherpeople or the real world might tell you. This motif is the “answer” Saihara andthe others find in canon, in response to Tsumugi’s “unshakable truth” that theyare fiction, and it’s the reason they’re able to reach an answer for themselvesthat had nothing to do with either hope or despair. And it’s Ouma who wassuggesting this kind of answer long before any of the rest of them. I really, truly would love to see the rest of the survivors, and Saihara in particular, kind of realizing that fact about Ouma.
Anyway, this has gotten prettylong so I’ll stop, but it’s an AU idea I love to think about! I’m really gladyou both asked, and I hope I was able to share some of my thoughts on the matter!
