A reminder of how I do these reaction posts as I watch things. I just write my reactions and thoughts down literally they happen. Think more of a bullet point format. Wrap up thoughts:

They showered/bathed together 3 times in one episode and thats insane. Lmao whatever guys 😂 this was just an excellent episode showcasing their closeness, their intimacy, their silliness, their individuality and their soft spoken nature with each other. It showed the way they consistently consider each other, what the other wants and needs. I don't think I have anything to expand on from what I've already said above. I really loved this episode. Fully plan on the last episode making me cry.

okok really showing how mentally ill I am, but my mom watches Big Brother (Reality competition show for those who don't know) and of course my brain immediately started formatting on what kind of contestants Alex Rider characters would be. so yeah,,, enjoy.

DISCLAIMER, I personally have never watched the show, so all I know is from what my mom mentions and what I walk past when I go through the living room. Also I am operating under the idea that these characters are participating in the show out of their own free will and not for a mission or w/e

Alex: Would likely be an audience fav and would go far in athletic competitions. His personality would appeal him to the other players as he seems trustworthy. I think he'd prob make it mid-late comp but would fall victim to house politics. Would always shout out his friends in the voting room. Fans would say shit like "Alex should have won"

Yassen: If he wasn't putting on a front, he probably wouldn't be very popular with the audience. The house guests would be iffy on him, but if he wanted to, he would be able to manipulate them into liking him/not voting him out. I could see him performing equally in the competitions,,, idk. the thing about Yassen is if he would even *want* to be there. I don't see him winning bc he'd let himself get voted out or something, bc we all know if he wanted to win, he prob would. Anyway, he'd likely get Head of Household at some point and people would be *pissed*.

Tom: He'd also be liked by the audience, and while I can see him getting far bc of likeability and athleticism, he wouldn't win. He'd be funny to witness doing the competition loss punishments and would likely have a short relationship with another house guest. He'd be on the chopping block like every other week and then be saved w the power of veto or smth. He'd be like that one guy a couple of seasons ago who made friendship braclets for his alliance members lmao.

John: He'd win.

Ian: Looks really promising, but gets kicked out too early for anyone to really tell (I'm sorry lmao). Good at the more logical side of the games, likely always between different alliances and getting through by the skin of his teeth.

Jack: Could not fathom how she would do. I don't think she'd win, prob mid game. I can see her always gossiping about other people, and there are lots of scenes where it's her whispering so you have to read the subtitles they put on the screen. She'd be in a secret inner circle but then some drama would happen and it would be disbanded.

Sabina: I see her making it to the last five or even winning. People would like to see her, and she'd probably make HOH a few times. She would be head of an alliance with a secret alliance in the middle of it.

These were the only ones I really thought about and I'm not very good at analyzing characters so like, do with this what you will.

okay so wonder is an old project from when i first got into trek eight years ago. i barely wrote any of the actual fic, but the unfinished outline is over 7k words. it's a beast. i have no idea if i'll ever finish it lmao

there's this movie called this is war (2012) starring chris pine (all my feelings about aos and aos!kirk aside, i love cpine. what a guy) about two guys who are spies and end up competing each other for a lady. it's a romcom. it's not good. but!!! i thought the premise of jim and spock being undercover agents for starfleet intelligence and both falling for bones would be a fun sandbox to play in.

some key notes (this shit is long sorry):

jim and spock have worked together for two years; spock nearly always calls him sir, even when they're alone in private; they both have feelings for each other but. well. they're stupid

bones is still a medical doctor, of course. fresh on the heels of a divorce, he moves to a colony planet and works in one of the largest hospitals in the capital city, avicenna clinic and emergency center

this colony planet, nasir, is located near the border of the beta and alpha quadrants. there are three main cities on the northeastern continent with a string of rural settlements between them, with each main city named after medieval muslim astronomers (al-shatir in the north, al-haytham in the south, and the capital al-khwarizmi in the middle). this continent is largely humid with regular rainstorms and 65°F average temperatures year-round, making it suitable for growing fresh produce, the planet's main export

there is some weird political stuff happening in al-khwarizmi, which is why jim and spock are sent there on assignment; an agent-in-training chekov and long-time investigator scotty are working with them in tandom, but behind the scenes

uhura is a xenolinguist studying the influence of standard on non-human colonists' languages; she is in relationship with chapel, head nurse at avicenna; they are both some of bones' only friends in the colony

sulu is a botanist specializing in xenoagriculture, studying the efficacy of the planet's soil as well as a strange fungus that's been infecting some local crops

rand is a reporter for al-khwarizmi's local news station who's been trying to uncover the reason behind the abnormally high number of political representatives resigning from their positions

and some plot beats:

jim meets bones at a bar and is drawn to him immediately; they build a quick and easy rapport; "jim feels a little butterflies-in-the-stomach high as he watches leonard leave and he makes a mental note to come back to this bar tomorrow"

he later discovers that bones is the same doctor that spock sought after in his preparatory research, having made certain to find a skilled doctor with a xenobiology background in case their mission goes awry

spock requests an interview with bones before his scheduled physical upon discovering that jim in interested in him; they Do Not get along initially, but the physical appointment goes over much more smoothly and that's when spock is like "oh. i'm also fascinated by this man"

jim and spock establish three rules about pursuing bones: not discussing one another with bones, do not infringe on one another's wooing, and no sex. at this point there's no solid "this is polyamory" but rather a "winner-takes-all" deal

it's uhura and chapel that convince bones to deliberate polyamory with jim and spock; still abiding by their rules, they agree, still keeping their knowledge of the other a secret. i'm sure that won't cause any problems in the future :)

a lot of dates. oh my god they go on so many dates. mckirk at the arboretum and camping in tents and slow dancing in a park gazebo; spones at an art gallery and a vulcan restaurant and the aquarium. someone breaks one of their rules. whoops

while all of this is happening, there's an overarching plot regarding political intrigue, a possible homicide, and a plague. it's all very ambitious and probably the reason why i never got very far. maybe one day!

TOS Blogging S1E2: The Man Trap

Other people have undoubtedly done this, but I've decided on a whim to watch my way through all of Star Trek: TOS in order through the rest of this year. And then blog about my thoughts, as one does.

Because I'm going in airdate order, and skipping The Cage (I don't want to have to effectively rewatch it when The Menagerie rolls around), we're starting with Season 1, Episode 2: The Man Trap.

Anyway, kicking it off, we've got Spock temporarily in command...

Uhura's on the console!

It's kind of interesting to me that they'd have a ship like the Enterprise doing routine medical checkups on other Starfleet operatives. The theme song goes big into the whole exploratory five-year-mission thing. It's weird to think that they're doing little side quests along the way for Starfleet while they're out there.

This is such a charming introduction to Kirk as a character, IDC. The first thing he does on screen is pick flowers for McCoy and tease him about visiting his 'old girlfriend'. This is a man who loves love and clearly has close friendships rather than just a professional relationship with his crew. And he's a little silly with it. You can see how tactile he is in the next scene, too, when he claps McCoy on the shoulder.

I was going to say something about the weird changing appearances thing the lady in this episode has going on, but got immediately distracted by the fact that bringing up your trip to a pleasure planet in front of your commanding officers is kind of crazy

I love the way Kirk smiles when they start getting into the argument with Crater, like he knows McCoy is going to go off about it. He's so unwilling to play games when it comes to people's health.

Kirk is unwilling to let that 'Plum' nickname go! Their dynamic to me feels like old friends except Kirk won't stop flirting with him on the job. Also he's literally always making doe eyes at McCoy with the dopiest smile through the entire first ten minutes of this

McCoy trusting his intuition and experience over the technology of the scanner

First random crew member death and he's not even in a red shirt! I thought that was The Thing!

Everyone in this series is so sweaty

Uhura is so perfect, I adore her so much.

For a (technical) first episode, I feel as though this actually does a decent job telling us what we need to know about Spock - how he differs from the human crew members and his friendship with Kirk, and his logical viewpoint rather than emotional one.

You can really tell how much the death of a crewman affects Kirk here.

Something I've noticed about the conversations in this is how natural they feel. People interrupt and talk over each other frequently

Love the conversation between Kirk and McCoy and the little spat they have. When they talk again a couple scenes later McCoy calls him 'Sir' until Kirk asks if he's in the mood for an apology, then they seem to go back to normal.

Worth noting that this is the point in which my rooommate kept saying "this is just like Among Us" every time she walked through the living room as this was on

The awkwardly close camera angle as we followed Kirk into the turbolift? I feel like they almost hit Shatner in the face

I feel like those things are too small to properly film in, but what do I know.

JANICE RAND!!! Her hair is insane, no way she's getting up to do that every morning. I also love how casual and friendly she is towards the crew. Less keen on half of the men actively leering at her, though :/

Honestly I don't even like celery but I kind of want one of those celery sticks with the red stuff sticking out of it? It looks fire. Also, the infamous cubes

LOVING the vibes of the botany room. Also Sulu is here!! And LMAO the food was for him and she was just casually snacking on it the whole way here? Love that too

It's kind of absolutely wild that when Nancy is blatantly hitting on him he responds with "you're as bad as Jim Kirk". Like I'm sure it was in the context of pestering him about getting enough sleep but that's still like rule #1 of what not to do when a woman is flirting with you, Leonard

When they refer to the buffalo are they referring to the American buffalo? Were they extinct (or near extinct) when this episode was made? If anyone knows the answer I'd love to know

The fact that Spock is seemingly the only one who actively suspected that McCoy was the imposter is a good look at how much insight he has, but also (IMO) how well he knows him. Sulu and Uhura seemed suspicious when he was on the bridge, earlier, but didn't voice anything.

For a monster of the week type of episode it gives us a surprisingly empathetic view on the monster in question. I also think it's very telling that the technical first episode chose such specific traits to highlight when it comes to the main three. Kirk's devotion towards and friendship with crew, and how seriously he takes his sense of duty. Spock's logic and his view on emotions. McCoy's defense of life, his high emotions and sense of empathy. To end the episode with him asking forgiveness for killing what he knew wasn't Nancy but still held an attachment to all the same is... very pointed, I think. Pretty solemn ending, I felt.

All in all lots of good stuff here. The pacing felt pretty decent though it dragged a little bit once the monster was up on the ship, which was a shame because I thought the whole chameleon gimmick was interesting. The stakes just didn't feel as high as they should have, I think? Really solid introduction to every character, like I said, though I think we were actually missing some of the main cast... Chapel (not necessarily main) and Scotty, I believe? Though I think Scotty is in one (or both?) of the pilots, which I didn't watch, and I know Chekov doesn't show up until later than everybody else. So, interested to see what their introductions are later on.

thoughts before i watch:

i feel so conflicted about sophie/nathan and not in the way you think

i feel conflicted as in i don't know if i want to know all the details of their history together

like i love just the added layer that says "these two knew each other and had something in the past but have drifted apart for reasons"

so it's a "tell me!" but also "don't tell me! let them be mysterious about it!"

so will the next episode kick off from the last one? or will it be like a little time skip and some cons later kind of thing?

i'm fine with either because with the time skip, it helps alleviate the stress of building new character dynamics in a way. like, they're still new and some character will clash at first, but it's lessened a little (or not and that will be one of the major conflicts in the episode).

but i also like seeing how they work immediately after, seeing the awkward kind of team up and such. do they hang out after a con? do they live together or is that just the base of operations?

but enough of me talking about that. let's get into it!

it is nice to have a heist show where like....nothing goes wrong

everything that they planned for happens and if there are things that go left, they have a backup for it that they use and it's so.... n i c e and refreshing to watch a show like that

general thoughts:

like, i knew there would be episodes that criticize corporations and there'd be discussion of government corruption but....episode two???? they really aren't pulling any punches

also how they show the struggle a lot of disabled veterans go through because they don't have a funded safety net. like the doctor for perry really wants to help, and you can see that when she lectures nathan about trying to scam perry (he wasn't but from the outside, it's not hard to understand why she thought that). it hurts her to have to try and help these people who just want to get better, but have such limiting resources to the point that she has to turn them away after a couple months.

nathan is very much still a firm believer that this gang of crooks can become a gang of good crooks. and this is really sweet. you can see that they gang still helps him with the heist even if they can't believe that they are good people. but i like the ending for this because they're acknowledging that yeah, it felt great to help return the money to the people who needed it, and maybe they'd like to do this again.

moral of the story: corporations get fucked and i am enjoying it

remember kids, cleaning blood money works better with cold water, not shooting witnesses. that just adds to the dirt.

rajbow (raj x bowie): o b v!! can't have one of these asks without these two, tbvh, I adore them and from what I've heard abt them, I love how Fresh handled them--the fact that the only canon gay ship is also on the list of the healthiest ships is wild and I freaking love it!! they're so adorable together too--and let me say I noticed the connection between Bowie getting crowns and Raj's name meaning 'king' immediately and it made me love them more! I can't wait to see more of them next season, and I hope Fresh doesn't fuck around with them like they've done with other ships 🤞

emwayne (emma x wayne): while I understand where the zemma shippers are coming from, I'm gonna have to say that I can see them as a pairing, but mostly I see zee and emma as friends than lovers. moving onto wayne and emma, I've seen a couple of rlly cute fanart abt them that roped me into rooting for them; also, I saw this tumblr post that talked abt wayne helping emma see that her and chase aren't right for each other bc of the break between bowie and emma's friendship; I thought it'd be cute that emma realizes what an actual relationship is supposed to be like based on the way wayne treats her and the two grow closer as he helps her come into herself more. overall, really cute pairing!!

nichaxel (nichelle x axel): MY LESBIAN BABES!!! ever since I saw that one scene where they interacted, I was HOOKED, I'm SO SO on board with these two getting together, ugh, I can just imagine how badass and amazing they'd be!! axel teaching nichelle to fight so she can make her comeback next season??? nichelle helping axel tune more into her emotions and her heart??? sign me tf up!! they'd be unstoppable, legit, I want this so bad! seriously, I hope Fresh does smth with them next season and if they don't get them together, I hope they at least let them be friends, goddammit!

damien x priya (idk their shipname 😭): from the screenshots I've seen of the two, I think they're cute together!! wonder if next season will involve them more 🤔 it's funny too bc it's the guy who doesn't have a clue abt total drama with the girl who knows everything abt it; like imagine priya getting damien to watch the prev seasons and damien returning next season like a fricking icon with his newfound knowledge. honestly I'm on the fence abt these two; I like them as a pairing, but also I think they're great as good friends too! (also I've seen a lot of ppl talking abt millie x priya; I personally don't have an opinion abt that, I haven't gotten that far to have one. So, to me, they're just good friends!) (on that note, for the scary girl x damien shippers, I personally see them as friends, I just can't see scary girl with anyone sorry 😅)

chazee (chase x zee): okay, hear me out on this one. before the season came out, when all I knew abt everyone were those random pics of episodes, I remember wishing chase to be gay (or bi or smth that isn't straight or he realizes he's not straight while in the show) bc it'd break that stereotype which I thought would be cool--and I shipped him with zee like offhandedly, nothing extreme, just lowkey. like I thought their shipname was cute (chazee?? hello?? literally adorable?? and I've found out that ppl are calling them cheese now too and fdhdjf that just makes it cuter). then I started watching the season and got to know chase's whole personality, I was like 'ehhhh' and this pairing just...got shunted to the far corners of my mind. THEN I came across this freaking adorable fic of these two (it's this one!) that somehow converted me back to shipping these two??? then I started thinking up random scenarios involving the two and yeah imma say I adore these two. idk I feel like zee would be good for chase, like their way of viewing the world would be pretty helpful for someone like chase?? (plus the whole sexuality crisis can still exist on chase's end bc imo zee is the kinda person to already be aware of a lot of things abt him (their gender, their sexuality, etc) but not put much emphasis on it, y'feel?), and maybe chase's way of expressing himself would balance out zee's??? who knows?? idk I feel like this ship has a lot of potential and it's worth exploring-

mkulia (mk x julia): they'd be the queens of meet-uglies lmaoo but no rlly, they'd be rlly great together, I feel! they give off alenoah vibes too, which I think is pretty neat! idk much abt them rn bc I'm only a fourth in the season, but I will def let you know my thoughts once I do!

oh, btw, as a treat, let me talk abt my least fav character in the season after I talked abt my fav ships fhjdfhI okay so I genuinely dislike ripper so much lmfao, like in the beginning he was 'meh' to me and he just plummeted the more I watched the season. I would not subject anyone to the pain of being shipped with him at all (the only ship I can tolerate is chipper but even then it's shipped ironically and I've hardly any interest in it; sorry chipper fans lmao)😭 literally hope he gets eliminated early next season--it's what he deserves after the whole deal with axel's elimination this season.

“Hongsam, no! No!” Why was there a frog in the middle of winter? Yeji felt like the world slowed down as she watched her beloved dog bound towards the frog with his mouth open. 

“Frogs aren’t for dogs, silly.” A pair of hands saved Hongsam from certain death as the red poodle was scooped up and turned away from the frog which croaked and hopped away at the commotion. 

“Yeji?” it might have been all that movie talk, but looking into y/n’s eyes again after so long brought forth all the memories of her younger years. Especially ones involving the woman before her. Yeji feels like lightly slapping Jisu’s arm when she gets back to the dorm. Who knew melodramaticism was contagious? 

“H-hey y/n. You’re here.” 

���Yeah. Seems like our schedules finally collided after all these years, huh? You were always away when I went home.” 

“Yeah.” Yeji replied dumbly. Y/n cleared her throat. 

“Is this cutie yours?” she asked, holding up Hongsam. 

He could be ours. “Uh-huh.” Yeji answered. 

“Cool… what’s their name?” 

“Hongsam. His name’s Hongsam.” Y/n nodded and proceeded to coo over the dog, saying his name repeatedly. Yeji kept staring like a creep. 

“I- I can take it from here if you need to go back home.” Yeji said, belatedly realizing that y/n was dressed in indoor clothes. She must be cold, Yeji thought guiltily.

“It’s okay, you look like you’ve got your hands full with that little one.” y/n pointed to Insam. 

“Oh I can carry them both.” Yeji assured cheerfully, standing up with Insam in her arms. “You can’t see my muscles, but I’m strong.” 

“No, I saw them” 

“Huh?” 

“Your muscles. I saw them in your photos. You’re everywhere these days, you know? Congratulations by the way, I’m glad it worked out for you.” 

“You look at my muscles?” 

“What?” Yeji saw red creeping up to y/n’s cheeks. Adorable. “No I just- I mean, I know you have them.” 

“Cool.” Yeji breathed, still unable to take her eyes off of y/n who she now saw was shivering. 

“Oh! We should go inside.” Yeji marched back to her house, hoping that y/n was right behind her. She was glad she forgot to take Hongsam from the other woman’s arms in her haste, she’s pretty sure y/n had no choice but to follow her. 

“Thank you, by the way.” Yeji said, taking a sip of the hot chocolate she’d made. 

“For what?” 

“For congratulating me earlier. I forgot to thank you.” 

“Oh. Well I was rooting for you so…” 

“Yeah… I know.” It was painful, how they were walking on eggshells around each other as if they didn’t used to be attached at the hip. 

“I came back and never saw you after that summer.” 

“I know. It was so sudden, I got accepted and they told me I had to immediately move to Seoul because I lived so far away. We didn’t even get to say goodbye. I’m sorry.” Yeji inhaled a stuttering breath as a warm hand cupped her cheek. 

“Don’t be. I’m happy for you.” 

“I didn’t even try to get in touch. It had been months since I knew you were back in Korea-”

“I didn’t try either. I guess we were both scared.” 

“Of what?” y/n shrugged. 

“I don’t know.” she answered Yeji. “I always knew you’d get accepted, that you’d debut and make it big. We never talked about what would happen to us once you got accepted though, didn’t we?” 

“We were too young to figure out logistics so we just never tried, was that all it was?” Yeji asked, though she knew y/n didn’t know either. “I feel so stupid. Years without you because I felt shy reaching out after months had passed with radio silence between us.” 

“You’re not stupid, Yeji.” 

“There were so many times when hearing your voice would’ve made things easier for me. So many times when I doubted myself and needed you. You always believed in me, even when I couldn’t dance to save my life.” Yeji felt her voice crack as she spoke softly, reaching for the hand that cupped her face. 

“It all turned out fine in the end. You made it without me, you believed in yourself even when you thought you didn’t. You would have stopped if you truly didn’t. I’m so proud of you, Yeji.” 

“Thank you.” Y/n was blurry through Yeji’s tears. Yeji’s wobbly voice prompted y/n to set their mugs aside so she could take her childhood friend into her arms. 

“I still would love to have you in my life though.” Yeji spoke into y/n's shoulder after a while. Once they had stopped crying. “I feel like we have so much to catch up on.  I know this might sound weird — especially since it’s like, 10am — but,  do you wanna stay over?  I guess ‘sleepover’ sounds kind of childish but.  I think it’d be nice.” 

“I missed you Yeji,” Yeji felt her heart skip a beat. “I would love to stay over. For as long as you’d have me.”

this is mike getting vecna'd-- foreshadowing i know it

i know someone else has most probably spotted this before, but I just noticed this a while back and haven't seen a post on it so here it is. Choking is a common imagery this season/throughout the seasons so that's what sparked this connection in my head. Sorry if this has been said before i just posted this cause haven't seen it posted.

Argyle's Arm = The Vine

El = Vecna

Pizza = Vecna's Hand lol

Mike = Max // which makes since given how much they've paralelled each other this season.

Plus Max looks through the "window" of Vecna's mind and immediately sees a memory of Lucas. This = Will watching thru the window.

u can just imagine will saying "but I'm right here" in his head. man.

Not to mention there is a blue + yellow box right in front of El in the frame; Since El is the person doing the "vecna-ing" here, what it means is the union of Mike and Will through Byler (represented by blue + yellow coming together) is what's scaring Mike the most, it's his monster, it's Mike's inner fear and shame (that Vecna would love so much to prey on), it's what Mike does not want to try, just like the pizza. Haha good job, self, you got that one *pats self on the back*. Oh, and you know what? Since it's kind of in Will's line of sight, I think it shows that the idea of Byler is Will's "monster" too. The thoughts of his love for Mike probably haunt him at night just much as Mike's love for Will haunt Mike, but for different reasons. For Mike it's his fear of being queer and for Will it's a little more about the devastating feeling that he'll never be loved back by Mike.

Oh damn and also the lights right in front of Will are off, the ones that are separating the two of them. Probably maybe symbolizing how Will is being left in the dark, Mike is ignoring the light that Will provides for him? The light is dead because Will thinks he lost Mike. And the blinds are closed and a dark shade of grey, showing just how "blinded" mike is being in the scene.

OR WHO KNOWS maybe Mike looked at Will when the shot moved away from him, the directors just don't want us to know.

Now 1 more thing, TBH, i don't actually think it's positive that Vecna will be "Vecna-ing" people in season 5 in the exact same fashion he is in season 4. Maybe that's a hot take idk lmao. He changes his tactic every season, and I just know whatever new strategy he chooses will be very different because 1. he has to come back from the dead with a new body and 2. he needs to use a tactic that brings him closer to Will/El than ever before. Closer to their minds probably. But that doesn't mean he won't be use his mind-manipulation strategies on Mike at some point, i think he will, or at least Mike's struggles would somehow reveal his love for Will.

Sooo basically this parallel I've posted here COULD be foreshadowing a Vecna scene just like Max's to come for Mike s5, OR this parallel could actually just be a signal to the viewer, like symbolic imagery, that Mike is hiding just as much, if not more, than Max as of season FOUR, and he's going to have to face the consequences just like she has so far. He's going to have to let the truth show in one way or another, regardless of how. If anything this shows Mike is actually falling behind Max in her journey of revealing the truth:

--Max's internal conflict has been revealed to the audience; Mike's has not.

--Max actually looked through the window while being vecna'd, and she heard Lucas, but Mike didn't even look at Will through the window while being pseudo-vecna'd.

--That combined with all Mike's sunglasses/black-out glasses [which happened RIGHT before this scene in the pizza shop] imagery is a yikes lol. He can't see his truth. Gawd poor boy is in trouble. Alexa, play Blind by SZA please.

thoughts while watching Happy Merry Ending (episodes 1-3)

Episode 1:

I like the opening sequence with his upstairs neighbor in his bed. Though my blood pressure is elevated from the second-hand-stress of oversleeping. His neighbor is cute. And has a crush on him? I suspect I will end up with major second lead syndrome for this guy. Especially because I'm feeling a little iffy about the pianist. I liked the instantaneous spark of attraction between them, and the pianist immediately going "so yeah as we just discussed I'll be here permanently now." But his pushiness irritated me and I'm finding it hard to want him to win the uke's love. I guess with this short KBL runtime there's no time for a more gentle pursuit? But it makes me root for the patient friend (even if I don't know yet if that's an option).

The wedding hall is gorgeous! And looks extremely expensive lol. I find it a mild faux pas when they are showing live performers on screen but there are instruments in the soundtrack that are not in the scene. I suppose they could have used a backing track; for my own peace of mind I will pretend that was it. Another pet peeve: calling what I assume had to be anti-anxiety meds "anti-depressants." Which are not going to be any use in a panic attack. I will chalk that up to translation issues. But the dinner was so stressful and I don't even have a panic disorder. Leave my poor boy alone!

I'm still in a judgy mood, sorry. But I am intrigued. And visually it's all beautiful. Cinematography-wise I mean. And also the surfer upstairs neighbor. (Arms!)

Episode 2:

Jae Hyeon is winning me over with his respectful care-taking of drunk Seung Jun. I'll chalk up his earlier pushiness to plot necessity and not who he is at heart. And smashed Seung Jun is kinda adorable.

I like the implication that Jae Hyeon is either a player or falls in and out of love at the drop of a hat. The dynamic with his employees is fun, and miraculously not annoying in the way I usually find co-workers gossiping about the main characters relationship? It feels natural to the coffee shop setting and not a plot device.

My curiosity is piqued with this dancing idol. And I like seeing Seung Jun more relaxed! He has a lovely smile. Deciding just how much of your weird brain you want to reveal to the cute guy: relatable. My first instinct was alarm, but actually double texting the person who was blackout drunk the night before to make sure they're ok is reasonble. And he apologized for being intrusive with his questions. I liked the moment when he reaches out to stop Seung Jun and then his shocked by his own forwardness. It makes him seem like someone with a huge crush rather than a creep.

Uh oh. This flashback seems like bad news. Abusive ex? Seung Jun is all smiles in the scene but I'm getting controlling abuser vibes from this guy. Oh, he was a cheater, it seems? That's probably a wise choice; less heaviness to reckon with in these ten short episodes.

Episode 3:

Ho Yeon (the sexy neighbor) is hot and supportive, but has silly ideas about how love (and trauma) works. Viki, why won't you let me screenshot him sweaty and half naked? Oh, I see, this boy knows how hot he is. Literal thirst trap lol.

Love that they have this voice student not realize that the idol she's watching on her phone is standing right in front of her. Also, I presume "your face is the size of my fist" is a compliment about a small head, but, uh. Sounds like a threat lmao.

Now I want cake. Umm. Are we really advocating stalking? 😬 Jae Hyeon you BETTER not be considering it.

Lol Seung Jun not recognizing this poor boy. Oh no! Is the idol's CEO the creepy ex? 🫣

OH FUCK OFF STALKER EX. This actor is doing an excellent job giving off subtly rancid vibes. And I'm intrigued by how it seems like they'll dig into how aggressive seme-uke pursuit is and isn't like stalking. For me, Jae Hyeon keeps toeing the line of going too far, but on balance comes across as an endearing dork with a crush. Which I think is also the reaction Seung Jun is having to him, so it's working for the story so far.

This is a tricky topic for a BL, and I'm not confident they'll manage it (or that it's even what they're trying to do), but I keep being surprised.

So to answer your first question, do I ship Tony and Chris- well, kinda? I don't really "ship" anything at all to be honest lol. But I guess that I enjoy reading fanfic and making memes about pairings that have interesting, weird, and toxic dynamics- like Chris and Tony. I also think that Tony x Johnny Sac and Tony x Artie have some potential lol.

There are a few things that I like about Tony and Chris: the power dynamic, Tony's mental and physical abuse, Chris' devotion regardless of the abuse and mockery, how Chris desperately wants his approval but Tony doesn't gaf, how Tony forgives him over and over- until he doesn't and kills him with his own two hands lmao....

Tony claims that he views Chris as a son but he clearly doesn't. Look at the difference between how he treats AJ and how he treats Chris. He never wanted the mob life for AJ and basically allows him to be a flop lol.. Meanwhile he spends the whole show essentially grooming Chris to take over. When AJ attempts suicide and almost drowns to death, Tony saves him. When Chris is on the verge of death after the car crash, Tony kills him. So anways, Tony views AJ as his son, an extension of himself, while he views Chris as a pawn. I'm not saying that Tony never loved Chris, maybe he did at the beginning, and you can see that in how he allows Chris to get away with things that anyone else would've immediately been killed over; but that clearly dissipates as the show goes on and Chris continues to fuck up and Tony becomes more self obsessed and paranoid.

I mean Chris gives up his fiancé for Tony (there are other reasons like the infertility obv. but y'know, not relevant ig) which is insane. Also that scene where he cries because Tony makes fun of his big nose ijbol... The more stern Tony x crybaby Chris dynamic is kinda funny to me.

And yeah, you're totally correct about the "weirdly horny" thing lmao!! There are many scenes where Tony scruffs Chris by the collar, shoves him against the wall, and shouts at him in a very intimate manner,,, Like the homoeroticism vibes were insane... So yeah basicallyyy I find Tony x Chris interesting because of how twisted and repugnant it is lol. Unfortunately there's only like 2 fanfics on ao3 which is kinda crazy imo. There's tons of WaltJesse fanfic (incredibly similar dynamic that was obv based on Tony and Chris) meanwhile there's nothing for the pseudo incest shippers🙄.

Moving on to Adriana,,, yeah she totally deserved better. I'm not one of those "Adriana was innocent" people, because obviously she wasn't, but I don't think that she was a bad person or that she deserved anything that happened to her. Her main faults were that she was incredibly naive and dumb unfortunately... She had multiple chances to leave Chris but did not take them, which was infuriating to watch but also realistic I think.

I honestly do not like Chris at all actually. He's one of my least favorite characters because his abuse of Adriana was so grotesque and painful to watch. Like I don't rlly gaf that he was depressed or an addict or abused by Tony lol... there are zero reasons to abuse a woman.

And I suppose you might be asking yourself why Tony x Chris is okay but Chris x Adriana isn't since I did say that I like toxic couples... well, the simple answer is that I don't like to see women being abused, and idgaf about what men do to each other lmao. Especially two terrible people like Tony and Chris.

So my partner and I finally watched Oppenheimer and I have... comments.

First: I did enjoy the movie, in the sense that I found it entertaining and beautiful to look at. However, it's the first 3+ hour movie I've ever sat through where I actually FELT it.

Oppenheimer, in my view, suffered dearly from several glaring flaws:

- pacing issues

- narrative confusion

- sound mixing issues

- the presence of Florence Pugh's breasts entire character (sorry Flo)

Again, I liked the film overall. I thought it was beautifully shot, the acting was superb, Görranson was throwing his whole pussy into the score - no complaints there. But despite that, I'm still kinda shocked at the acclaim this movie is getting: the writing is fucking awful. (Not like Twilight bad but the kind of bad where I'm sitting here like "this is pretty but also why am I watching it?") And that's the bottom line: I'm legitimately confused as to what the story is here. ("It's a biopic about Oppenheimer." This was not a biopic. This was Christopher Nolan jerking off for three hours over how he could do A Beautiful Mind better - and failing miserably.)

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say that the scattered nature of the narrative was supposed to mirror Opp's relative cluelessness about what was going on around him, his sense of self importance, his insistence on hiding his own feelings and motivations - the truth about himself. When he opines about "is anyone going to tell the truth about what's happening here?" the viewer is meant to include him. And there were moments in the film where I thought this tone was nailed, and it did a fantastic job with illustrating the conflict between what he was saying and what he was thinking or feeling - the speech after the bombs were dropped immediately comes to mind here. But there were other moments where Nolan obfuscates so much that the point of the scenes - and the emotional impact - is completely lost. In others, he relies on telling rather than showing, which there is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE FOR IN A FILM SETTING, CHRISTOPHER, YOU ARE LITERALLY USING THE SHOWING MEDIUM.

For example, we're told by Matt Damon's character whose name escapes me that Oppenheimer has a reputation as a womanizer - but up until that point, you really only see him involved with two women, and only one of those (Kitty) was sus - the other was him just kinda pathetically chasing a woman who just kinda seemed to use him for D appointments but had no real interest in him, which didn't give that claim a lot of credibility imo. Now, later in the film, when he talks about his affair with... Lawrence's wife? IDK there's so many names lmao. Anyway, he's called on the carpet about it by one of his friends and easily admits he was having the affair but her husband never found out, ergo, no problem. That, in my view, did WAY more legwork in showing he was an arrogant piece of shit than the entire storyline with Florence Pugh's character, which I felt either needed to be fleshed out more so her only purpose in the film wasn't just to be naked (as I think the implication was that she was important to Opp and her death hit him hard) or else removed entirely. (I also think the scene in the hearing where she was making AGGRESSIVE EYE CONTACT with Kitty while riding her husband, while a powerful visual, was an unnecessary POV switch from Opp to Kitty - head hopping, in other words. In the bad sense. Would have worked better if the story was entirely from Kitty's POV, if other such switches between them were present in the film, or if it was reworked to show it from Opp's POV. But I digress.)

Another example, which I have less to say about overall, is when Opp tells the commissioners (and the viewers) that he was homesick. The scene cuts to him crying or having an anxiety attack or something in bed while visualizing lots of shiny things on the ceiling. There was a lot of opportunity for some impactful character building that was utterly squandered with that single line, particularly because the scene moved on without addressing it again. I feel like there were clearer ways to show homesickness, and more interesting ways to play the scene off of Opp telling us he was homesick - particularly if the goal is to show him as someone who understates or misrepresents his own thoughts, feelings, and opinions.

The movie focuses on three separate key elements: Opp's personal life, his work on the Manhattan Project, and the one-sided duel with Strauss. However, it doesn't do a great job of threading these elements together, or of telling them individually. All three plot lines are half-finished/told and jumbled together in no particular order, and Nolan might think that's a bit of narrative genius, but I've got ADHD and even I don't jump around in a story that badly.

Time jumps and flashbacks are a fantastic tool to use, if used wisely, but Nolan's got a flashback jumping right into a time jump into another flashback into a POV swap and so on and so forth, and between that and the 3 million names that get dropped in the film, it's very easy to get lost. And there's so many characters, there's no time to really get any kind of emotional investment in any of them. The flashbacks and time jump have no impact: there's nothing grounding them, so there's nothing for them to "hit."

Anyway I have a lot more thoughts on this, but I'm legitimately falling asleep every 3 words despite being this heated about it, so I'm just going to leave it at that for now lol.

So the original oneshot Wreck Me, was a random drabble I thought of while watching a comedy of all things. The scene with the security guard that wanted to laugh at Daniel (after his awkward rambling introduction) when he called up to the exec suite, only to hear to 'send him up' is what started it all!! I legit just wrote a drabble about that scene, then I think I got an ask/comment to continue it and idk where it came from (@rizzstappen is so gonna tease me about this lmao), I wrote the angstiest one shot I've ever written. I didn't know what else to do with it so I posted it and people got *mad* lmao

She denies this, but Emi challenged me to 'fix it' so we chat ficced a pseudo outline. And I thought that would be that- case closed! but then my brain wouldn't let it go!

And then I started writing it all. It was supposed to 100% Max's POV and I was maybe like 20k words deep when my brain went '...we should write Daniel's POV....but of different times in the timeline'. And I was truly worried it was going to be a bit confusing, because I wrote it in like 5 different gdocs

(it took me 2 days and MORE gdocs to decide on the 'correct' order. I wanted it to be perfect and not confusing and I may have cried about it a little lmao)

I knew I wanted it to be kinda angsty, but I didn't realize it would be so angsty. but then I didn't truly give myself an option because I gave them maybe one of the most fucked up break up reasons ever. Truly a fun time worldbuilding, because I had to truly figure out what brought them to Wreck Me before I could bring them along the 2wrecked2furious journey.

But truly it was that or a spy-esque 'I did it to protect you' reason and I'm kinda happy I didn't go down that road.

The memories came at the end and there weren't supposed to be as many as they were lol.

Overall, I have 35 google docs in a folder because I wrote everything so sporadically. the ONLY scenes that were written canonically were the first 3 Max POV scenes and the first 3 Daniel POV scenes. Everything else was a 'open a new doc to write this down and figure it out later' vibe.

Also, another fun fact that only Isabel knows, I don't listen to music when I write, I can't like focus. But for some reason when I had started writing Daniel's POV I kept replaying folklore, and Exile is very Reclamation Daniel coded.

I personally was rooting for r*na in season 1. But after watching most of season 2, I prefer portwell and probably won't watch season 3 after the mess they made. I'd have been okay with r*na if the narrative made sense but sorry to say Gina has been a "maybe" to Ricky. She picked the guy she wanted since S1, but she seems to forget he's not really deserving of her attention at all after he's blown her off and asked her for relationship advice knowing she liked him. i'll answer this as briefly and structured as i possibly can but i highly doubt it lmao. possible rant ahead (?)

okay so s4... i can't say that i won't tune in because essentially, i'm a huge sofia wylie fan. i've loved her since andi mack and everything she's ever put out with disney, i've watched (plus sge). and aside from that, the s4 plot (the whole og hsm movie reunion thing/wildcats being extras on the movie) is being hyped up a lot and i'm intrigued to see how that plays out. outside of the triangle, i love kourtney, carlos, ash, jet and maddox as characters. i'd probably just scroll thru hsmtmts twitter posts/tumblr tags to see the scenes/discourse/takes and use it to determine whether i'd watch or not. i've abandoned more shows (esp ongoing ones) than i have finished so... we'll see.

if you want me to be honest, gina is the reason i shipped portwell. in s1, the only person from the core four i truly rooted for was gina. i couldn't care less about ricky, nini and ej characters and plotlines (plus their weird 'love triangle'). i wouldn't call myself a rina in s1, but i was rooting for gina's character to be more vulnerable and possibly finding romance. she's this tough girl who's never really fit in because she had to move so much and i truly sympathized with her. in that homecoming scene with ricky, i actually did feel chemistry between them. now looking back, it's probably just sofia and joshua's acting that made that scene more that it actually was. but by the end of s1, it's clear rini was that season's endgame. i mean, the main plot of s1 was ricky being in the play to get nini back. i also believe they were going to be endgame if olivia hadn't left. and before anyone says s2 was filmed before driver's license and sour blew up, i know! but just think about it: with 'all i want' doing well and blowing up on tiktok the previous year and olivia working with a producer at interscope records (not under disney) for her new album since 2020, i think she was planning to move on to music before the script was written. hence ricky and nini's plotline for a 'final' breakup.

moving on to s2... in s2, i didn't like how in 2a gina's whole storyline was crying/pining over ricky who doesn't really reach out to her after the one exercise where gina rejects him. up to 205, i understood ricky might've been conflicted and confused about gina's feelings for him, he had his relatioship with nini and his family drama to worry about. but since that whole 'plane crash' scene pretty much checks out as a confession, it just didn't make sense for ricky to act the way he did in 205. after the whole "if you and i were dating..." thing he pulled, i could not ship rina at all. all the doors i had open for them, i shut. he was so out of line and so disrespectful. he only cared about nini in that scene (while also stepping over nini's boundaries about being in the play). and c'mon, this boy at least knows gina and him are at this weird stage where they aren't purely friends and there's feelings involved. so why would he say that? now, when i saw ej and gina's scene in the same episode, they got me immediately. and it all sort of aligned with their history and personalities—overconfident, 'anti-hero', ex-scheming partners. now that i think about it, i didn't like rina before i loved portwell. and portwell? well, i think they're neat. midgame ship this, plot device that, i don't really mind. i'm thankful for their development in 2b because it was a breath of fresh air for someone who loves and roots for gina. and ej grew on me, too. in s1 he was this straight up himbo disney villain for but in s2 he was given more dimension in his character, had relatable struggles and we were shown a more vulnerable and attentive side to him. my top reason for shipping pw is the fact they started becoming better people together and they got each other because of that. the whole 'new ej' and 'gina 2.0' thing was probably a happy accident, hence why tim didn't really dig further into that. but on the other hand, they're different in a lot of ways. gina wants to settle down in one place and ej doesn't know what he wants—we even find that he wants to break free from the mold his dad wants him to be. i wish that would be something they help each other out with—he is her constant and comfort and she's the person who grounds and challenges him. instead, it becomes a point where they fail (looking at you, s3!). and whether you are a rina/pw anti, there's no denying ej treated gina like a queen in s2. portwell in 205-210 will always have me by the neck. and even though 211 and 212 makes me recoil, i personally don't blame ej for tapping out from their date with the whole 'brother' thing. just like gina, he's scared of putting himself out there to get hurt.

now, s3. i like to joke about the fact that it didn't exist but honestly? minus the triangle, it was pretty entertaining and funny. i liked maddox's character a lot in particular, she reminds me of me. i loved that kourtney has a character arc. i love ej more after watching s3, he's become one of my fav characters. now, i don't know if i'll get booed for this by the pws but i wish pw would have not been a couple while gina is still in hs. not because of the whole age gap thing (which is ridiculous), but i genuinely think they'd suit that bff-to-lovers slow burn. thank god i have tsbu because the way tsbu!pw plays out is exactly how i imagined it would be. but alas, we see portwell deteriorate in s3. and ofc it was painful to witness but less so because they felt off to me. they weren't really the s2 pw i knew and loved. trust me i don't say this bc they broke up, i say it's the lack of banter and moments of vulnerability (which they should have more of bc they're a couple here!). also the ej caswell i know would've broken the rules and took gina as a date, honestly. like, he literally gave a girl food poisoning so he can star in a show with nini. now, i do believe that gina and ej being in different phases of their lives was a good reason for their breakup, she's got 2 years of hs left and his world is getting bigger than just hs. i mean, like i said before, i wished they'd have that two-year, slow-burn best friends-to-lovers arc. my biggest problem with ej and gina's story was the execution. there were hundreds of ways to write them being right person/wrong time and they'd still mean a lot to each other etc. i'd actually be okay with them ending. but with the whole 'i can't be a maybe anymore' and 'can it really be over, if it never got the chance to start?' rubs me the wrong way. it's like tim really wanted everyone to see that ej is at fault here (despite whatever tim's saying in interviews) when he's doing all of this so his girlfriend and his friends would 1) have a great summer in this place that's really important to him and 2) have this great opportunity to be on disney+, which is a huge deal. specifically, for gina, he wanted to make a good show bc we all know how much finally being casted as a lead is important to her. ej could've just walked away, given up and let this thing fall into shambles, but he didn't. it didn't just cost him time with gina, it costed him his whole summer. it was all weird writing for me. and as for rina? firstly, i find it odd that the rinas were rooting for gina emotionally cheating on ej. even sofia said that gina's not that type of girl and she genuinely wanted her and ej to work. personally, i didn't find ricky pining for gina cute at all. ik a lot of people see it as a parallel for season 2a when gina secretly pines over ricky while he's still with nini. but the context here is different now, isn't it? gina never received a confession (or any sort of sign ricky wanted to be around her) before she got with ej. in fact, ricky was busy with lily and was close enough with her to spend summer with her and her parents in florida?? like i don't know, it just feels like ricky's feelings stemmed out of nowhere which made it seem shallow and not the epic love tim is pushing it to be. again, sofia and josh are great actors, the wdykal scene had so much chemistry but it was just that. the context/history of rina is extremely shallow to me. they needed val to say 'yup, he's genuinely heartsick' instead of just letting josh's acting show it. another thing i should mention is the instances where ricky was so passive-aggressive about ej and gina. the part where jet ran off and they needed a hans to sing liaod with anna (gina), he was going to volunteer to step in because he had feelings for her and was visibly pissed off when cordon told ej to sub for jet. and there's ricky slapping ej, which was an ick moment bc it made him seem entitled rather than badass.

lastly, that one shot of him finding out nini was at camp? "nini's here?" yeah? that one scene had more emotional fuel than ricky spending the whole two weeks max crushing on gina. it sort of set back the whole rina development, i have to say it.

speaking of nini, her sendoff wasn't as satisfying as i expected it to be. in s3, i'd prefer it if she moved to california because she got a record deal or something? since s3 was already so meta, that would've been much better than her moving out to cali because her moms wanted to. back to s1, i feel like she was your stereotypical shy, main character with the usual 'gaining confidence' arc and that arc was sort of boring and overdone for me. but in s2 i really enjoyed her branching out to songwriting and stepping side to help out others. plus, i think people skip over how awful ricky was to her as well. first, he takes a break and feels entitled to get her back and second, he genuinely started suffocating the poor girl in s2. well, at least he realized it, though. again, when people say rini was toxic, it's really just ricky. nini did nothing wrong in s1-2. i don't think the rose song was even about ricky, he just made it into something it wasn't supposed to be. i sincerely hope ricky loses this behaviour in s4.

anyway! end of rant. these are just my thoughts. if anyone agrees or disagrees, it's up to them. i genuinely hope gina is happy next season, bc before i was a pw stan i was a gina stan (even though she was a little ooc in s3). if it means rina being happy, i won't be so mad. at the end of the day, this is just a silly disney show and it’s all for entertainment. i do love portwell but i rather tim never touch them again, honestly. canon pw is already ruined for me, though i wouldn't mind a proper portwell closure scene in s4.

Nijimura keeps going on and on about how beautiful Himuro is LMAO and they take down some shady shit together using Nijimura's delinquent days experience. It's as wild and unhinged as it sounds it's CANON I SWEAR

I really like Nijimura. me and my friend joke that he's our god. Himuro is so pretty and beautiful he's our top for visuals. So when we found this, we immediately went "oh yeah, they had at the very least, a fling"(jealous Murasakibara hello~ Also it's funny to me that Kagami has no fucking clue who Nijimura is- the one guy who had all of the GoM's respect no matter what- but HIMURO does. Imagine that meeting in Last Game).
