Being a grown up is hard. You'd think people would be kinder away from the pressures and expectations of high school, but no dice. If anything, you'd argue people actually get worse, buffeted by their own self-importance.

A coworker has been treating you poorly for weeks now. You don't like to tell Eddie, worried you're adding more to what is an absolutely heaping plate of his own responsibilities and worries. Even now he's stressed, his head by your knees, your hands stroking slowly through dark curls.

He's sort of the same as you, he doesn't like to share. But he's much worse at hiding how he's feeling, his face an open book of pressures.

You smooth his bangs away from his forehead to lean down and kiss it, the pale stretch of skin smooth under your lips.

He stares up at you like you're everything. Eyes impossibly big and wide and brown, irises dark in the lamplight and melting into his pupils. He looks sweet.

"I don't think I could do all this without you," he murmurs.

Your lips press tight together with a smile. "Yeah, you could. Did it all before without me..." You resist the urge to kiss him more and cover his cheek with your fingers. "But you never have to again."

It's sticky with a ridiculous, over-indulgent romance. A silly promise that you mean, but still so, so corny.

He giggles like an idiot and squints at you, "You're-" He licks his lips. "You're too good to me, know that?"

It makes you wanna cry. You feel the tears sharp behind your eyes and have to look away from him. You pat his arm and pull away. "Definitely too good. Make me dinner?"

He snorts and springs up from the bed. "Your wish is my command, babe."

You watch him leave, and then you bring your legs up toward you and cover your face. You really really want to tell him what happened today, but you can't make yourself do it. You don't want to stress him out, especially after what he's said.

You know Eddie would never make you feel bad for needing support. He wouldn't resent you. He would comfort you and ask you why you hadn't told him sooner, you're sure. He might even get a little mad about you keeping it from him and suffering in silence, that's how much he's proved to like you.

The first tear dribbles down your cheek. You're exacerbating your own upset, you know, but you can't stop. Suddenly everything is stressing you out, not just your mean coworker but the entirety of your life.

You push your hands against your face and breath raggedly. Trying to calm down.

The door creaks but doesn't swing open, so you assume it's just the draft from Eddie's broken bedroom window.

"What's wrong?" Roan asks.

You startle at the sudden sound of her voice and your hands fly from your face to your chest. Roan's staring at you with a juvenile concern, her tiny thick eyebrows pulled together as she pouts at you.

"Roanie," you say, wiping your wet cheeks hurriedly, "you scared me, little lady, didn't hear you come in."

"What's wrong?" she asks again, standing in front of the bed looking shocked.

"It's okay," you coo, reaching out with both hands. "Come up here, baby, I'm alright."

She looks from you to the door. You hate that. You don't wanna scare her.

"I'm okay, Ro. Promise."

She walks up to your side of the bed and holds out her pinky. You wrap your finger around her much smaller one and twine them gently, giving it a little pump. She forces her entire hand into yours then and smiles as she climbs up onto the bed beside you.

She collapses like a sack of flour over your knee, face plastered to your inner thigh. "Dad says," she begins, words tickling your skin, "that crying is good and it can make you feel better."

You drop your hand to the short stretch of her back. "Your dad's a smarty-pants, that's why."

"Do you feel better?"

You sniffle. "Yeah, Ro."

She doesn't like the waver in your voice, turning her cheek to look up at you, a picture of her father. Brown, brown eyes.

She opens her arms as an invitation that you can't refuse, bending in on yourself to hug her. It's difficult to hug someone so small in this position. One hand weaves into her hair and the other pushes behind her shoulders. She spreads her arms and sort of just lies underneath you, nuzzling her face against yours.

"I love you," she says.

Even though your eyes are closed, tears bubble up. "I love you more, princess."

You feel terrible for crying on her and after a handful of selfish, needy seconds you pull away and kiss her cheek.

"Sorry," you tell her.

She slides out of your lap before you can stop her and leaves. You laugh wetly, not really surprised by her fleeting attention. Though it had been really nice to get a cuddle from her and an 'I love you' with no prompting, you can't say you blame her for fleeing. She didn't sign up for your blubbering all over her.

You pick at a loose thread at the stitching of your sweatpants.

"Tell her!" Roan says from just outside the door.

You look up as she pulls her dad back into the room. Eddie has a rag over his shoulder and a concerned frown playing on his lips.

"What happened?" he asks, stricken by your tearstained face.

"Tell her!" Roan repeats, tugging at his hand.

Eddie's eyes soften. "I love you, sweetheart," he tells you.

You smile as he picks Roan up and sits on the bed in front of you. It's nice to hear him say it, nicer to see him and your favourite girl sitting in front of you.

"What's wrong?" he asks again, reaching for your hand, the other wrapped around Roan's shoulders.

You'll tell him the truth later, but for now Roan's eyes are on you, and she'd gone to get her dad when she saw you crying — which is, frankly, one of the cutest things she's ever done — so you just want to reassure her that you're alright.

"Nothing important. I feel better now."

Roan's mild frown perks up. "I knew it! Daddy aldways makes me feel better."

You squeeze Eddie's hand. "You're right, Ro. Always makes me feel better too. Something about you Musnon's..." You take her face into your hand, relieved at their twin expressions of reassurement. "Must be these pretty brown eyes."

You sneak a look full of meaning up at Eddie.

"She does have nice eyes," he mumbles.

"'Xactly." You thumb at her appled cheeks. "Thanks, baby. You saved the day."

Roan falls back into Eddie's chest away from your hand with a shy giddiness. "You' welcome."

okayyy let me just start off with WHAT THE EVER LOVING FUCK WAS THAT ENDING LAUREN???? i'm not okay because of it. like nuh uh get lost. u had no right to do that (im saying this as if it didnt get spoiled for me and i didnt gaslight myself the entire book read that it wasn't going to happen)

i would like to straight up say this seemed like a filler book. just a set up for the next one, it didn't really have all too much plot-wise aside from pae and kai's romance. it was less on the fantasy side and more on the romance but i still enjoyed it a lot. and obviously since it was a filler book there was less character development (for some- im looking at you paedyn)

kai and pae were really cute in this book honestly (and as it mostly focuses on the romance ofc they were) the banter and everything was so wonderful to read i was giggling and kicking my feet wayyy to much. the romance was romancing but also not romancing at the same time (im not even gonna try to explain that just use vibes)

i do feel as though lauren's writing has definitely improved from powerless. she has this whimsical magical style of writing that i love it really takes me into the world of the book (mostly). other times the long sentences were too much in moments. like lauren. we did not need to know the colour of the bricks in the market at this certain moment in time when you'd already explained the colour two pages ago-

paedyn - ok i love her. i really do she's such a good fmc BUT for me in this book she was boring-ish. and hella indecisive like girly pop if i had kai talking to me like that i'd be folding so damn fast- but yeah it felt like she didn't have too much character development aside from finding out her dad was actually her dad. also i idk who the fuck she was trying to fool with her 'i hate you' to kai, like be fucking for real bitch no you dont.

kai - ok bye i could write a whole rant on why i love this man. like im sat. this book felt more like kai's book (as powerless felt like pae's) imo we got more on his backstory and i think his character (and povs) were more interesting for me to focus on. also his flirting and little one liners had me giggling and shit my sister actually woke up to me grinning like an idiot under torch light-

Hello! I start writing my own fanfiction after reading yours! You are really inspiring me to try writing a story of my own and want your opinion! Basically, I'm writing RoR x Percy Jackson, (female Percy, like yours), but I will be writing a few twists of my own. For example, instead of Percy get teleported to RoR universe, they got teleport to Percy's universe instead. So;

1. Percy, (Percilla, I like that name and I also want to use Anthonius as Annabeth's male counterpart if you alright with it) is 18 years old and I planned to make that she lives at the Camp and works or helps as tutors and instructors for the younger kids.

2. I'm suck at smut and romance... So I'm not sure to add this element. Maybe romance but not smut because I sucked at it.

3. I want to make it as if Percy had long stopped hoping for PJO! Poseidon to act as her dad, but still longs for a loving father figure.

4. RoR!Poseidon is disgusted of his pjo! Poseidon's actions and behavior, making children non-stop but not once taking responsibility over them, or the very least monetary support.

5. I'm following bits of Young Gods too (my new favorite fanfic too, thanks for suggesting btw), and made all of the Gods and Goddesses were shocked, including Hera and Odin when the Half-blood children getting punished for their Godly parent's mistakes. Cue, possibly mass adoption.

heey! been binge-reading your post abt ysblf on my break and one) can't agree more with your takes, especially when you call out (delulu) marcela stans and 2) sorry if you already answered this but I'd love to read your take on the symbolism of the woods-and-duckling shared dream, please. Would i be right to assume that it goes beyond a cheap "ugly duckling" reference? then again, betty did had several duck dolls and plushies around her bed -more than any other animal or character. Thoughts? 🦆

I have never been asked about the duck dream, a mutual has spoken to me about it in passing a while back and about it's dream symbolism origins. Bc everything has a meaning in ysblf, it's not accidental. I actually never saw the duck or ducks in her room as referencing 'ugly duckling', my mind didn't pick up on it. I'm slow.

But yes, their shared dream goes beyond that reference.

Before I get to the symbolism and all that, let's go back to the dream and when it happens, bc context is important. They don't have this dream for no reason.

For Armando, this dream happens the night before the plan starts. It's after el desfile where he and Mario overhear that whole spiel about Nicolas and the Terramoda business card. Mario is pressuring him to start something with Betty bc they see Nicolas as a threat. For Betty, this happens after she gets home with her dad, and he complains to Betty that she's taking too many liberties and that that work (the world with the models and the fashion) is too much for her. It's a critique on her job and the little life she has.

Both Betty and Armando are being pressured in different ways by people about what they need to do or how they need to do things. And it's only when they're asleep, succumbing to their subconscious, where they can allow themselves to have what they really want.

Armando may not be in love with Betty yet, but he does like her, and he does enjoy her company. In the dream, he's happy running around with her in the woods. He's carefree with her, he's not stressed or angry. He wants to be in those woods with her. And that scares Armando when he wakes up. 'It was a horrible dream, it was an ugly dream'.

Was it? Not to Betty. She says 'fue un sueno muy bonito' and goes on to describe everything in it except Armando's presence. She's happy when she wakes up because to her it was just a dream and probably not the first one she's had of him. She's already in love with him but sees him as something impossible. Betty has already stated that love and romance will never be for her and that work is all she has.

Now the dream---Armando is frolicking with Betty in some woods, she has flowers in her hair and they're holding hands. At some point, she runs away from him and he's dream-frantically looking for her. She's playing hide and go seek with him and giggling about it. When she lets him find her, he tries to kiss her and she runs away again. He runs after her, looking for her bc she's yet again, hiding from him. When he finds her, she's hiding behind a tree, teasing him. When she reveals herself, she's holding the yellow duckling. He runs to her, again tries to kiss her but that's when the dream ends and he wakes up.

Yes, the kiss is foreshadowing what's going to happen the next night at the bar.

What I think is funny is that the dream is him running after her and isn't that what he basically does in canon? She is the one woman he said he would never beg or run after bc he doesnt do that and yet that's all he does for the remainder of his arc. Running after her.

Now the duckling.

Reminder that Betty is holding the duckling. And Armando's subconscious is trying to tell him something.

The dream does not mean 'you need to hurry up and seduce your assistant or she's gonna give ur company away'. It's saying 'You have feelings for this woman. Stop avoiding it.' Armando avoids it.

As I said above, it's not a bad dream. They're both very happy in it. And they are an unlikely pairing. It's also an intuitive dream. But what really sticks out is 'transformation'. The tarot cards predicted to Betty that her life was going to change. This dream is telling Armando the same thing. A change, a transformation in his life is coming and it's in the form of Betty.

For Betty, who's the one holding this duckling and her bedroom has ducks (one is on her nightstand) and ducks are a symbol of transformation-- she is that 'ugly duckling' waiting to turn into a swan. Unknowingly. But it's not all about a physical transformation, it's about her shedding that naiveté and becoming a stronger, more self assured person. Through various trials and errors and heartache.

For Armando, Betty and the duckling symbolize things he's never experienced and that he's afraid to experience because it would mean changing and taking a harder look at himself and how his original beliefs may have been all wrong.

That duck did a lot of heavy lifting despite being 5 seconds of screentime.

i was thinking non-spider au, billionaire-ceo!single-dad!miguel who had his son, gabe (the second gabriel o'hara bc miggy loves his baby brother but has to give his kid a nickname for a distinction), young (i specifically thought of 20-22 but u could always change it to younger for a teen pregnancy thing, i just wanted him in his forties 💀). with a baby mama that walked out. miguel was a big family man nonetheless and had always made time for gabe n his family, made sure to raise him good. but somehow, his kid turned out a womanizing brat who had zero respect for others—the complete opposite of what miguel had taught n raised him to be. n it frustrates him to no end bc he doesn't know where he went wrong.

one day, gabe randomly tells him over dinner that he met someone (reader, ofc) a little older (i'm thinking four years older, so gabe is 22 n reader is 26 bc it's a good age gap for her n mig) n started dating them seriously n miguel was so surprised but he was so proud n so happy for his son, miggy himself didn't care too much for romance bc even after a little over two decades, he still thinks of how his baby mama left him n w his line of work, trust issues were necessary. but he was so happy n proud of his son !! he met reader very few times, once over dinner and a few times as his son's date to an event/ gala they were invited to n he was so glad that his boy was settling for someone so good n mature n intelligent n elegant n pretty and—

Two weeks have passed since losing Miso. A week and a half since Mrs Kim had made the decision to rehome Namjoon’s duck to someone with an entire flock. The first visit to Tae’s house had felt lonely. Your heart aching when you had looked out the back door, hitting hard when realizing there will never be another moment where you can see the duck that had captured your heart.

Never another time where you’ll see him waddle around his enclosure, swimming in his little pond and feasting on his food. No more chances of teasing Tae that he should’ve chosen the name ‘Cow’ instead for Miso’s black and white features. Tae had held you close when you lost it in his room. Quieting you each time you tried to apologize for being so dramatic and telling you that it’s never easy to lose something you love.

Comforting you when you should’ve been comforting him.

He’d been the one to lose his childhood pet. He’d been eight when his parents introduced the idea of getting their sons a pet to help combat the stress of moving to a foreign country and the difficulties of language barriers. But dogs were out of the equation. The high maintenance of providing a good life clashed with their bustling one. And cats didn’t stand a chance for consideration with Mr Kim’s allergy.

The idea of welcoming birds into their home merely falling into their laps on a random afternoon when they’d traveled to the local farming supply store, and Namjoon had been enraptured by the assortment of ducks and chicks for sale.

Miso had been there for Tae through it all. Through his high school graduation, through his romances and heartbreak. Through the heartache that came when Jin and Namjoon moved out to study in prestigious universities in different parts of the country. He’d always been there, and it hurts that now he’s not.

He’s scrolling through Twitter when you climb into his front seat. His gentle humming to the unfamiliar song from his Spotify is music to your ears. “Hi, Babe.” Tae closes out of the app, dropping his phone into its designated cup holder before leaning across the console to greet you with a kiss.

“Hi,” you smile, buckling yourself in. “Where are we going?”

“It’s a surprise.” Showing that he’s serious about being spontaneous. He’s never been one to do surprises, always spoiling it before he can stop himself. “But it’s a bit of a drive. Would you like a silly little beverage for the ride?”

“Of course.”

The neighborhood is quiet. Despite the picturesque sky and the warm, welcoming sun, there’s not a single soul in sight. It’s the perfect weather for a leisurely adventure.

“You’re very serious about being spontaneous,” you comment. He reaches, his hand finding its favorite place upon your thigh. “You’re usually horrible at keeping secrets.” Tae bursts out laughing. His beautiful smile filling his face. “But I love it. I can’t wait to see what you have planned.”

“Trust me,” he snorts. “I almost blew this one too.”

He stops at a small gas station not too far from your house. Gathering a snack and drink each before piling back into his car to begin the adventure he’s so excited about. Road trips with him are fun. From singing along to your favorite songs, forcing him into duets of songs he pretends to hate, to the ridiculous little comments made that send you both into fits of lighthearted giggles. Even with no clear destination in mind, it doesn’t feel like you’re traveling for long, and after an hour, you arrive.

“An industrial park?” You tease. Pretending you don’t notice the sign for a small trail tucked away in a mess of trees. Tae lunges at you, wrapping you in his arms and lifting you off the ground. “I was joking!” You exclaim through giggles.

“No, not an industrial park, you dingus.” His own laughter mingles with yours, and he sets you back onto the ground. “Hobi was talking about this trail. And I found this. Thought it would be fun to get out and explore.”

And so you do.

Following the paved pathway through winding trees. Gentle sounds of rushing water are distant background noise but loud enough to coax you away. You set out to explore, finding dirt paths and stairs, worn down grass and hills to climb. A beautiful little creek hides amongst it all, and you’ve never felt so carefree.

The path is small. A welcoming swing overlooks a hill that peers down onto the water, but after finding a spider hidden within the webs and Tae’s refusal to kill it, you carry on. Going until the path ends in another parking lot and you start making the trek back.

“This was fun. I’m glad we came.” You swing your hand entwined with his, basking in the different sights and noises that surround you. And Tae beams, proud of himself for a successful day. “I bet there are so many more beautiful places to discover.”

“We’re not done yet,” he promises. And when you return to his car, rather than get into it, Tae drags you along, continuing the walk. Following a sidewalk that runs alongside the creek and leads into a busier part of this small town.

“Now city hall? Are we going to pay our property taxes?”

He heaves a sigh. Trying his hardest to seem annoyed but falling victim to a laugh. “Fine, that one was funny,” Tae admits. “But no, we’re not going to city hall.” The sidewalk ends, a marker points in the direction of where the trail reconnects. And after crossing a small street and passing through another parking lot, you’re back on track. Stumbling upon a small pond.

“This is cute,” you smile. Loving what different treasures are hidden about. Even in the midst of the bustle of small town traffic, the cutest little pond offers peace. “I can’t believe this is here, and that you found it.”

“Wait, there’s more!” Tae reaches for your hand. He drags you along, moving a little faster than before. A small red bridge crosses over the creek, and he doesn’t stop until you’re on the opposite side. “Surprise!”

And tears spring to your eyes. A small flock of ducks. All gathered under the tree for shade from the unforgiving sun. A few stragglers even swim in the water. “Taehyung!” He beckons you into his arms. Holding you close and his sweet laugh is music to your ears. “I can’t believe you!”

“I wanted to surprise you.” His hand wraps around the back of your head. Holding you, comforting you while you sob into his chest. “It’s been so heartbreaking seeing how hard you’ve been taking Miso’s death.”

Your heart floods with warmth. The tears that fall are filled with the love that overflows, and you can’t find the words to describe all that he is to you.

“I love you,” you beam. “I love you so much.”

“And I love you even more.” Tae presses a soft kiss to your head, giving you an affectionate squeeze before slipping from your grasp. “Come on, let’s feed them. There’s a machine over here.” And he drags you back across the bridge towards a large stand where two dispensers are filled with pellets.

“I left my wallet in your car.”

He scoffs, “As if I’ll let you pay. I’ve come prepared.” Tae dips into his front pocket, retrieving a handful of quarters. And with the largest, proudest smile upon his face, he thrusts his hand towards you.

“I’m so spoiled.” But he passes a couple to you, holding the rest securely while the dispenser releases a load of pellets into your awaiting hands. “Come on!” You beam. Leaving Tae being as you race back towards the flock.

But he doesn’t speak. Still watching with a loving smile, he allows you the moment to bask in this happiness.

A couple ducks take interest at what’s in your hands. Inching their way towards you when you toss food in their general direction. Tears of utter bliss threaten to spill, and you lower to your knees when others become curious.

“Tae,” you whisper. He stands off to the right, not wanting to risk scaring them off if he were to come closer. “Look at them. Look at the babies.” He digs for his phone. Memorializing the moment with pictures.

He’s unaware that your heart is on the brink of exploding. From the overwhelming love that resides for your second favorite animal to the immense love that your heart possesses for him and only him. A few tears slip through your lashes, the only way you can express the emotions that bubble inside you.

You’ve never had someone care so much for you. And you’re not sure what you’ve done to deserve this.

Tae’s patient as you continue feeding the ducks. His smile not budging each time you return for pellets, and when his stash of change runs dry, it’s your cue to leave. You walk back to his car hand-in-hand. But you cling to him, your arms wrapped around his. Your head against his bicep, desperate to shower him with your love and affection after all he’d done for you. You’re desperate for him to know how in love with him you are.

“Have fun?” He asks.

But he has no idea. You nod. “Best day ever.” And a small tint of red burns in his face. “I love you so much. Thank you for doing this for me.”

He shrugs, as if it were nothing. But his permanent grin gives him away, how proud he is that he’s come up with this idea. “I’m glad. You deserved this,” he replies, and you heart is not safe. Seconds from combusting. You’re impatient to get back to your house and love on him well into the night.

The drive back is peaceful. Exhausting settling in from the heat, you two ride in comfortable silence. Halfway through the drive, his phone buzzes with a message from his mom. He asks you to answer, sneaking the briefest glance at the screen. And when his phone unlocks, opening to their last conversation, one of the numerous photos he’d taken stares back with a message in Korean that you can’t understand.

“She replied with a heart,” you answer. “And something I don’t understand.” Coming to a stop at a green-light-turned-red, he looks at the screen, nodding but not uttering a word. “What did you tell her?”

He starts to smirk. Leaving you to dread whatever’s going to come from his mouth. “It’s right there,” Tae teases. “You can’t read it?” His laughter fills the car when you groan. Delighted in your reaction as he always is.

“No,” you answer. “I’m trying to learn, but my tutor always get distracted during lessons.”

“Can’t help it. Hearing you speak Korean makes me want to kiss you. Is that such a sin?” He scoffs. “If wanting to kiss your girlfriend is a crime, then lock me away.” The light switches to green, the car in front of you hesitating a second before slowly crossing the intersection.

“Charges dropped. But please tell me what you said? Please, Tae Tae. Pretty please.”

He laughs a little more. “All I said was that you have no idea how happy you make me.” The tips of his ears turn a little red at his admission. But your heart is damn near close to exploding again. “I think she said that she loves us. I’m not sure, I didn’t really read it.” His attention remains focused on the road.

But yours is stuck on him.

“I love you.” His lips curl upward, sneaking a glance before turning back to the road. “I wish there was something stronger than love. Because I more than love you.” Tae peels a hand away from the steering wheel to take yours.. “Do you realize how frustrating it is to look at you and not have any words that can tell you how much you mean to me?”

He nods. “Every single time I look at you,�� Tae replies. “But actions speak louder, and I can feel how much you love me in everything you do. I am one lucky man.” You want to throw yourself at him, want to shower him in your endless love and affection. But you settle for a squeeze of his hand. One that you hope he knows means you’re lucky too.

And you pray that he’s yours forever.

for bang chan, i'm kinda torn? i can see him living with his family and being a loving big brother to his siblings. i kinda wanna give him specifically something more akin to sam where he has his music heart events. maybe he's working with changbin and jisung and later you get to see the song he wrote with your input? i think one of his heart events would have something to do with his love for dogs and another being hannah teasing chris about how often he talks about you (interpreted however you like since its a heart event you can access before dating him). maybe.. perhaps... a heart event on the beach where he talks about how much he loves it? which comes back when he confesses to you on the beach? yes. i think he'd probably just work at joja mart or something or do freelance work at home. man who will water crops and feed the animals and fix fences after marrying you tho. he just wants to help <3 also dad of the year if u have kids they will be So supported!!!

lee know... honestly, he and jisung are really good with kids, so i could see minho being the one who runs a school for the kids in town (fulfilling penny's role). probs a little quiet in the beginning as he's trying to get a better read on you as a person, but warms up quickly. at least one of his heart events is him feeding stray cats and being caught by you. he doesn't get flustered or anything but he does talk about how he likes caring for things... and for people, too. maybe a mention that he worries about coming off as mean when he just has a particular sense of humor--and he usually only makes those jokes around certain people who he knows can handle it. omg wait chris says minho's dad makes furniture or something... minho lives on the mountain with his dad, the town carpenter??? imagine romancing minho and his family just Knowing because of how often you make the trip up there for non-farm related stuff lmao. he probably confesses to you during a picnic or a walk in the woods. i love the idea of him also feeding animals after marrying you or cooking for u sometimes... what a softie!! dad of the year #2 btw

changbin kinda fits into taking alex's position in a sense? lives with his family (loves them SO much and you WILL know it), works out a lot, etc. i can honestly kinda see him talking about wanting to do something with it professionally, but in terms of opening up a gym rather than playing sports. man who is nice to begin with but will be down so fucking bad for you by the time you finish romancing him. hes just a loving dude!! i like to imagine he talks vaguely about traveling a little bit but says that he never saw himself going through w it because he doesnt like the idea of leaving his family. maybe... he has a softer side too in terms of art or writing? like the guy talks abt maybe being a writer or a tattoo artist, i could maybe see that coming up in his heart events. consider... poetry boy bc he writes lyrics and idk i think theres at least a little crossover there. he confesses with lyrics he wrote for u. also probably thrives in married life on the farm??? plenty of space to work out and go on walks... thank u.

hyunjin.... leah. he's just having a good time living in the forest and painting/drawing. i feel like he'd be a little standoffish in the very beginning, but warms up to you a lot over time. probably would ask if he can hang out on your farm and draw sometimes. his lil section behind ur house??? absolutely an easel facing toward the farm so its implied he's painting u/ur farm. honestly i kinda like to think he works at the saloon and probably voices his annoyance to you that tourists sometimes hit on him and he's not really a fan. imagine literally having a heart event where he claims ur his partner to get someone to knock it off, and later sends u something nice in the mail as thanks. probably one of the more romantic guys. i think he'd enjoy married life on the farm a bit considering it gives him plenty of space to enjoy nature and draw if he wants to, plus he has you to support him in his artistic endeavors. absolutely insists on doing some things around the farm like feeding animals because it's the least he can do to make ur life easier.

for han... honestly i could see him functioning as elliott-adjacent? the kind of guy who writes, but he's busy writing lyrics. his first heart event 100% includes chris + changbin passing by reader and jisung talking in town and they invite him to come make music w them if he wants. alternatively, i could see jisung as being the shy son of the couple who runs the ranch. i think he'd warm up to reader more and more over time, and it'd absolutely have his family sending him up to reader's farm sometimes on "errands" like delivering feed there and whatnot. wait jisung w the blue chickens. genius. either way, i feel like he also would probably open up to reader about being an introvert and how he's good with people, but that he has his limits and he appreciates having ppl in his life who don't push him to be extroverted. he does feed animals for you (and put water out for ur pet) and probably mends fences for u as well. man who is aware that sprinklers exist.

felix... ok vibe w me for a minute. felix who's family runs the general store. gamer boy who probably games with you for one of his heart events. some of his events also take place on the beach tbh where he talks about swimming in summer and going to the beach w his sisters?? maybe his heart events kinda talk about how he doesn't really know what he wants to do sometimes. he has things he likes doing, ykno? also at least one of his heart events is a lil sad and u get to comfort him and he sends you a letter saying he appreciates the kindness in ur heart. gives! you! treats! after u marry him! always says a little 'sorry i woke up early and started baking... but you like these, right?' before giving u a lil treat. also will feed the animals on your farm and mention how he likes helping you however he can <3

seungmin is mr 'its not like i like you' in the beginning where he's not mean by any means, but he is like hm. farmer :/. kinda like haley? he's nice enough to people he knows super well, but he takes a moment to warm up to new ppl in the valley. tourists? he's polite enough. a random person who moved there out of nowhere? ew. why would you come here? but he warms up to you quickly. he lives w jeongin! sometimes he'll go visit him after he marries you and they just have a friends day. anyway i think his heart events talk about him wanting to be a photographer. maybe you help him get a website together that he continues to maintain into marriage + he'll go off and take pics in the forest on some days. lovingly cooks and waters ur crops for u <3

i.n... lives with seungmin, as mentioned before, and i think he'd work at joja. openly tells you he dislikes it but he's gotta make a living somehow. he mentions that sometimes he'll help minho with teaching the kids if he needs it, but sometimes he'll also tutor any of the kids needing the extra help (minho always recommends him bc he knows jeongin wants the extra money). honestly i feel like he'd probably enjoy married life on the farm where he can explore what he wants to do in life without having to worry too heavily about other things. probably has very sweet heart events where u can really see how mature he is sometimes. one of them involves him tutoring the kids outside one day and u get to impart farmer knowledge on them (which is pulling from one of penny's but shh).

I was actually holding off on playing this until my exams were over but I lost myself to temptation and honestly this was just an amazing update. I would have probably hated myself for not reading this sooner if I have waited tbh😭

Initially, I was a bit confused bout who exactly moi MC should romance but I think Dante just single handedly cleared those doubts by a landslide and we haven't even fully met the other ROs yet🛐 I'm just in love with the way you portray him, like he actually feels alive and reading his parts are like breathing in fresh air, you know.

And I had to read that 'nudges MC's leg apart' part 60k times just for it to register in my head that I hadn't hallucinated that😭 and also was the actually the Warden outside MC's window?? If it is, I find it hilarious that this dude was just casually hanging outside smones window and being just shady af.

And honestly though, it should be a crime that Ro isn't actually an RO (...was that a twisted pun on your part btw?🥹)

I mean forget kissing MC's temple, stroking their spine but this man had me at stocking their fridge like hello? do u want to get married that badly?

Btw, it's implied a bunch of times in the demo, about how our dad clearly shows signs of genuine care towards the mc and blaming himself etc etc but the mc always has this 'he's disappointed in me' mentality. Is that actually a semi set feature of the mc coz it felt a bit contradictory to everything we've been getting about the dad in actuality. I mean I understand that we, the readers, maybe a bit omniscient in some things related to the plot, as in seeing things the MC can't see, but MC seems well aware of their situation it.

Either way, I think this was a great update mainly because it really balanced out the other chapter quite well, I think. It felt like the pace slowed down a bit and honestly that was a really great choice. Also, I did feel a lot of things were missing when i first read this if's demo but the additions in the previous chapters really bring together the entire demo as a whole. I think the only criticism I have is towards the amount of grammatical and vocabulary related mistakes, it did throw me off the plot in some areas but nevertheless it's pretty solid.

The grammatical errors will forever be the bane of my existence and I will fix them. But everything else aside, I'm really glad and I adore long asks so don't worry.

But I'm really glad you enjoyed it, I had felt that the pacing was a bit off and there was just so many things I really really wanted to add, just wasn't equipped in doing so. Aswell as my financial situation is rocky and before I hadn't had access to a computer, which is the cause of my hella long hiatus. But I really really wanted to grow the world MC is in and make y'all familiar with it. So finally learning code and learning it well enough honestly helps me so much in accomplishing what I really want to accomplish.

With MC and their dad/ur dad it's sorta predetermined, but you'll get the chance to actually face you and your father's relationship before it's too late. I feel that where MC is, it's an honest bitterness. I mean comparing the rest of their family, Racheal, their mom, Charles, even Amelia show how much they love MC, but we'll definitely get more insight into why he acts the way he does and everything in the coming chapters!

And the Ro stroking your spine, yes he did that. I absolutely had to throw that in.

And Dante feeling alive, I really really try by just adding habits and things that extend outside of speech and just ugh, that is such a huge compliment!

You want to know about...  my oc lore? Oh boy, never had anyone ask about them before ngl I'm a little nervous now (also, I'm doing great thanks for asking 💕)

Okay, alright! Let's start with some little facts about the two main characters shall we? 

Iola (it's an "i" btw), our beautiful female lead, was once your average 19 yo girl who worked at a small bakery on the outskirts of the city to support herself back when she was still on earth. She was an orphan, had a few good friends, and absolutely loved reading romance in her free time! 

One of her favorite romance novels/ webcomic actually was one about a poor noble lady who her mother insisted that she goes to the royal hall to have some fun since she never went before and and also because it was the crown prince's birthday! a big event really. And after the prince saw her at the ball, he fell in love with her and now is doing everything to be with her. A cliche story I know but Iola kept reading it because, well, the art style nice! and um... She may or may not had little crush on one of the supporting characters (that would be our guy Leonhard!).

She's not sure how it started... I mean he was handsome yes, but so was everybody else really. He also didn't have that big of a role in the story aside from protection the young lady like he prince has ordered him, but she thought it was cute how attentive and caring he was when taking care of her.

Fast-forward after a few more chapters, Iola was devastated to find out that her favorite character got killed trying protect the prince and his soon-to-be bride. So much so that she didn't notice when she accidentally turned on the kitchen stove which led to her dying in her sleep due the the leaking gas.

... Or did she? Because next thing she knows she's waking up in a completely different place surrounded by all these strange people who were sobbing and cheering about how happy they were to have her back after she's been in a coma so long.

Confused (rightfully so), she tries to ask them who are they and what's going on. But her current body is so week that she can't move a muscle or speak. Fortunately, and after some time, she slowly regained her health as well the memories of the body that she now possess.

At first, she didn't realize that she got transferred into the novel that she was reading. So she spent most of her time trying to get used her new home and the fact that she has someone to call family now (it felt so weird to her to call a strange man 'father' the first couple of times, but she got used to it... eventually).

She actually realized she was inside the novel after her father introduced her to the captain of the royal knights one day when they went out to see the horses (apparently, and her new dad was a very important nobleman who owns most of the animal farms and stables in the country).

After realizing that,  she made it her main mission to get closer to him but to also try and prevent him from dying like he did in the original novel.

Now for Leonhard! As I previously mentioned he is the captain of the royal knights, he's 23 years old, and even though he's a person of a higher rank, most people avoid interacting with him because they find him to be intimidating and scary looking because of his scars. That's why he doesn't have any real friends or any other kind of relationship with anyone (aside from the queen and the crown prince)

He used to have a family before, but his poor mother died of the plague when he was little and his father sold him to a slave master for like 3 silver coins because he didn't want to take care of him anymore.

After that Leonhard was forced to become an underground ring fighter at a very young age to survive, that went on for almost 7 years until the queen and her knights came to arrest the slave master and everyone that was involved in that incident. Recognizing his strength (and feeling sorry for the pitiful boy), the queen took him in under her care and encouraged him to become a knight to work for her.

Feeling forever in debit for the queen, he accepted her offer and did just that. training day after day none stop until he became an official knight at 15, as well as the youngest royal captain the country has ever seen at 18, and also receiving the title of fearless hero at 22 after winning a war in only 3 years.

So you could imagine his surprise and confusion when the famous ill daughter of a well known noble man suddenly appears in his life demanding to be his friend, because why would she want that? He can't understand her reasoning at all. Not to mention all the bizarre things that she does and say all the time, and yet... He can't help but feel drawn to everything about her...

But yeah! This is roughly the lore of these two! I hope that it was a little interesting and that I didn't bore you too much talking about them XD oh also! The original title for my story was going to be "let me love him!" But idk I might change it later on.

-death of the author (i swing back and forth on it but largely do agree but prefer toni morrison's the author is holding your hand and reading is an active thing)

-veggies like as a meal (i eat veggies strictly medicinally)

-contemporary romance as a book genre, and also larger, booktok (i largely enjoy contemporary romance and i think if u look for it, it's possible for romance to be just as meaningful and thematic as any other genre, and i do think some of it's heavy critique is sexist, but i do think there's a real marketing problem where authors are pushed to use those stupid ao3-like tags to sell their books like their made for consumption. like, there are all sorts of romances out there that are really good outside of colleen hoover and booktok, and i think booktok is a larger marketing problem in the publishing industry than a writing problem? while i myself don't enjoy those books, i don't think its THAT out of the blue and different from what popular books have always been)

-failmarriage (i love it so much, more interesting to me than any extramarital affair could ever be)

-i forget if you've watched succession but you seem like you have so: tomshiv, kenstewy, kenrava, (i love kenrava tragedy era and at one point was rooting HARD for them to get back together until they couldn't anymore, i love tomshiv failmarriage icons i hope they never get divorced and stay messy forever, i like kenstewy enough and find it beautifully tragic that kendall had two separate people who were rooting for him to get out of his dad's bubble and fucked it up both times to some extent. eldest boy indeed)

makes sense, compels me - i think anyone who partakes in fan works is generally a believer in this, because in canon we have our root but it branches out forever. it is incredibly important to be open to interpretation because to exist in a world where you can only accept things at absolute face value is to exist in a world without chewing and thinking on things. i can't agree with absolutism in any kind of art because you know what, it's BORINGGGGGG

makes sense, kind of compels me - i like to cook so i would be lost without them I SUPPOSE. i love the endless pickling one can do with a vegetable, that's always very interesting to me because i like to live my life with a certain level of TANG to it, but i also feel constantly defeated by the vegetable industrial complex and i never feel like i'm eating enough of them. even though i do be trying!!! but christ for some reason it's hard, and then there's the whole thing of them never keeping in the fridge. you've really got to approach vegetables with a plan which i guess is good but also stressfullllllll i'm so tired. also i only really like vegetables that crunch, except for mushrooms, but like a steamed vegetable.... fuck off. fuck off. fuck off. hell texture

makes sense, doesn't compel me - i mean 'chick lit' as it was once called has been with us from day dot, think mills and boon, think joan collins, all that stuff but i personally cannot vibe with the flatness of this era of contemporary romance that has been heavily marketed to us on tiktok via tropes-as-selling points as opposed to story-as-selling points. my issue with contemporary romance (and this is from the little i've read because it does bore me and for this reason) is there seems to be less of a focus on character and more of a focus on running through well-trod story beats in order to get to a happily ever after. i enjoy romance in my stories, but i don't personally give a shit about it being the sole focus because when it is, it goes stale quick. it needs to be anchored in the story, otherwise like, who cares about these people getting together? i completely understand the sexism aspect, like sure, let women enjoy things but i'm also kind of over the vapid barbie feminism turn of all things geared towards women cannot be criticized otherwise you're a misogynist. i understand where that reaction has come from, but it becomes tiresome especially in the face of furious swiftie-fied righteous anger. what i would like is for contemporary romance to be a place where we can tell many different kinds of stories (queer ones, for instance) as opposed to tired storylines recycled from like, CW shows. but listen! it's not my genre, not my circus, not my monkeys! i care about literature, but i care about literature in a different way!

(i've been writing this one story kind of about this for like 10 years now.)

Ok so basically, it's is a combination of a bookstore owner DR and a DR where the lore of the band Ghost is real! So, the band itself has its own lore, like I mentioned, and its whole deal is that it is part of a (fictional!) Satanic church. (It's theistic Satanism, unlike the Satanic Temple in this reality, which doesn't actually worship Satan.) The lead singer of the band is the head of this church and has the rank of Papa (it's Italian for "Pope"), while the instrumentalists/backup singers are called Nameless Ghouls, or just Ghouls. The ghouls are demons summoned from Hell to serve the church. Fans have named the ghouls because Papa only ever introduces them as "Ghoul" onstage gjkfhbkjf

ANYWAY. The current Papa in this reality is Papa Emeritus IV, originally introduced as Cardinal Copia! (He got promoted hdfgjdhkf) Copia's my s/o! He's the love of my life, the other half of my soul, my everything. Copia, despite being a Cardinal in the Church of Satan, is an awkward doofus with anxiety and I absolutely adore him. Papa Emeritus I, II, and III are his brothers, but they don't know they're related yet. Papa Nihil is their dad, and all four of them are half brothers bc Nihil wasn't one for being faithful :')))) I can get more into the rest of the Satanic Panic's family tree later if you want me to, but to save time here, I'll hold off for now 🥰

Moving on, when I first shift to my DR, it will be when Copia is still a Cardinal and Papa Emeritus III (aka Terzo, the bisexual disaster himself) is still Papa. I have recently inherited a witchy bookshop ("The Witch's Inkwell") near the church's HQ, called the Ministry. Copia, being the world's biggest nerd, is going to swing by because he knew the previous owner, my uncle, and wanted to go shopping for new books. Instead, he sees me! That's how we meet, and thus begins a slow burn romance full of mutual pining and idiots in love. Copia's ghouls (the ones that he personally summoned from Hell) and Terzo are also probably going to try and parent trap us, so sjghkdfhg OH! Sorry for the long message. I've been having Thoughts. So, I've always had the hc that abby hasn't even thought about her sexuality yet, cos the concept is sort of alien to her. Like, idk if I'm projecting onto her (I'm 6'3" and built kinda like abby, so I have more ~experiences~ to project than average...) But I get the feeling that Abby hasn't necessarily had that much agency over her love life? Just a hunch, ya know.

Like, she's been taught that she is at her most valuable when she's efficient. Love and affection are luxuries. It's rude to ask for them and, when she gets them, she's supposed to take what she's given. Even Owen seems to treat her like a project where he's giving and withholding affection to try to teach her how to be a better person while cheating on the mother of his child with her. Regardless of if you think he actually loves her (not you, I'd never suggest you'd think such a thing, babes. I'm specifying for... them... if you decide to post this... they... might see it) he constantly holds himself morally above her, and you can really tell how much he values being 'the good one' in their relationship, so I don't imagine the goal posts of moral worthiness are exactly static.

I don't know if the idea that sex and romance aren't just "things that she has to allow people to do to her, otherwise she'll be inflicting herself on them" has occurred to her. I think that, if you asked her what she looks for in a partner, she'd say she just wants someone to actually want her. Which is the bare fucking minimum and should be a given. But any further answer is her being picky, which she thinks she can't afford. And you can see why she'd come to that conclusion cos, since her dad died, who has actually expressed that they want her outside of her capacity for violence, and without the stipulation that she has to abide by an amorphous moral standard to be deserving of it? Like, I love confident abby but I can never stop thinking about how 'what you want in a relationship' stops being a practical consideration when you're used to being unwanted, and being dismissed or discouraged whenever you express your wants.

But it gets really practical when you get to catalina Island and its full of people with EYES who recognise that ur hot as FUCK and everyone starts hitting on you which is what happens at the end of the game Neil Druckman told me himself. And I think Abby would have an 'oh fuck, I get to choose?' moment and start to actually think about her sexuality and her own wants, not just needs. (Yes, I grew up in a small village and moved to a city for university. What of it?) I forget why I started writing this, but I'm on anon so it's not my problem anymore

RRRRR OK OK but ive only played the public demo so far i havent paid for the patreon/closed demo yet, so i have very little information about the Rosymance in general. info dump and stats below

Ellaria is the humorous / cheerful kinda Button, about 5'5", and she calls her brother Nick-Nack in the game but I imagine she will call him any random number of names off the top of her head (based off of when I played Fallout 4 and I would often call Nick any random nickname like Nicki Minaj, Nickle Pickle, Nickolodeon, Nickaroni and Cheese, etc lol). She has some insecurities because she compares herself to her brother a lot, but she tries to tough it out and beat up her bad thoughts bc she's an unstoppable optimist!!! Stubborn to a fault she refuses to back down once she sets her mind to something. Is a very nice person but gets very socially awkward in large groups, and sometimes lashes out when she gets frustrated by how fragile people treat her (the first thing that made her like Instructor Kim was that he didnt beat around the bush abt her zero but didnt treat her like a kid either!! shes like damn finally some respect around here)

Loves Nick so much (i got like a 160% relationship with him in the open demo lol) looks up to him like her personal hero + mentor. Loves her dad even though it's a little bit strained, has not seen or spoken to her mother in 4 or 5 years after The Incident(tm). but she misses her mom a lot she, she's half scared of her mom hurting her and half scared she will hurt her mom.

I chose the pre-prepared name Ella when I first started playing bc I didn't know what the game was about so I wasn't prepared to like.. make an OC for it until I decided I liked it enough lol.
