Picture-perfect fairytale romance 2/3
Synopsis: Fairytales help tell children of all sides of human life without exposing them to real dangers. But what will happen if a child keeps their favorite story far too close to heart, projecting fantasies onto reality?
Part two, finally! I've been struggling with deciding how to approach the whole thing, but, thanks to how much time autumn holidays are giving me, I managed to finish this! Now, only one part left... I wonder if what I'm planning for it will be predictable, or maybe the hints weren't obvious enough to pick up on? (ノ*・ω・)ノ
TW for delusional Neige, some mild swearing, a little ooc. MC is gn.
Tumblr media
He always thought the circumstances would be slightly... different.
As he watched them disappear in the woods, Neige unconsciously reached out a hand towards his beret. Words written in golden embroidery burned against skin: "Someday my princess will come".
But they are nothing like the fairytale princesses. Helplessness and dependence are not words suit for them. It may be far too soon to make assumptions, but the way that person held themselves, the light their whole body radiated should be a sure sign... "No, I'm thinking about this too much - too soon. That's what I'm always being told... I swear, I'm not desperate, just- how am I supposed to know when I'll meet my destined person? If I act nonchalant all the time, I might accidently drive them away and never even know of that." These thoughts brought a childish pout to his face, creases forming between perfectly sculptured brows - an unusual expression for the normally cheerful boy.
Still, some things don't add up to his expectations.
"Ah, but how could your heart have any place for doubt? Were it myself, I would never let my dear beloved go."
Tumblr media
You don't even remember how much time passed after the strange encounter in the woods. Days trickled by leisurely, with no crazy adventures and, thankfully, no overblots. The only inconvenience so far was Ace getting into another quarrel with his housewarden and being collared for a week. You found out about it when the boy in question turned up on the doorstep of Ramshackle late in the evening - right when you and Grim were about to head to bed. Clad in old pajamas (found in one of the old wardrobes during sunday cleaning and thoroughly washed), you opened the door, interrupting Ace's violent knocking. Behind his back stood Deuce - nothing surprising; the two had been inseparable since the chandelier incident, it would've been weirder to see them apart - who made a show of scolding his companion for showing up there at an ungodly hour and dragging him along, but was just as excited about possibly staying over. You didn't even hear out the story behind their appearance, as the bright-red collar on Trappola's neck told enough, leaving the door open for them and walking up the stairs to retrieve three sets of blankets and pillows. Grim, having taken the hint, was already sprinting to the pantry to pick out his favorite snacks (and bring some for you, too). Ace and Deuce had made such sleepovers a habit for your group, so, without any further questions, they headed to Guest Room to move the furniture and make space.
"Can't believe you have the audacity to bother prefect every time you get in trouble..."
If the jab bothered Ace, he didn't let it show, "Shut up, Deucey. You pretend to be all righteous, but when they offer us to stay over, I never see you turning them down."
"That-! That's because I was taught it's rude to not accept invitations, especially from friends! And there should be at least someone watching over you to make sure you don't get into more trouble."
Coming from the kitchen with three empty glasses (and a small cup) in hands, you take the opportunity to interject, "You're just as bad, to be honest. If anyone's being responsible among us, that's got to be me."
The redhead scoffs with crossed arms, "Uh-huh, responsible my ass... You're only right about one thing - Deucey being a walking hazard."
You exchange more sarcastic remarks, with sleepy Grim lying stretched out across your lap, until the topic eventually switches to more menial things: clubs, teachers, fresh gossip. One particular talk makes you recall the encounter you had a few days earlier.
"And then Vil started raging when a commercial came up on some guy's phone. It was that new music video with his kidfaced arch-nemesis; He was trying to keep it cool, but I swear he almost chucked a water bottle at Rook when that creep approached him."
"Really? I did see him annoyed a few times, but for Vil, of all people, to attempt a murder in broad daylight. Who could've bothered him that much?"
"Eh, it's Neige for you, nothing new. These two have had a rivalry going on for a long time. Did you not know? Their fans have the wildest and most ridiculous discourses ever, it's kinda fun to watch."
You tear your eyes away from the ongoing game of cards, looking up at Ace with furrowed brows.
"Neige, you say...? Can you show me a photo?"
His face noticeably scrunched up, "Ew, why would you even want to look at him? He's just another one of those pretentious freaks from RoYaL SwOrDs", clear disdain and disgust in his voice switched to smugness as he leaned closer to you, almost draping himself over your shoulder, "Aren't I more handsome, hm? And, unlike that stuck-up princey, I can give you all~ the attention in the world, without any fans hogging it."
Deuce, annoyed with his friend's touchiness, grabs Ace by the collars and nearly throws him off of you, "I wonder why you don't have any fans, then. Even prefect is more popular than you are, dumbass!"
Upon noticing your unamused (and somewhat pissed off) frown, he hurries to retaliate, "That's not what I meant! You're really cool, so it's obvious you'd have some fans, but you're also new here, and you spend more time with us and not others, and I didn't-"
"I get it, you can calm down..."
"...sorry again."
A bunch of idiots, that's what they are. Still, it's hard to be mad with them, your two first and best friends here, for long. Someone shoves a phone right into your face (thankfully, without breaking your nose) just as you start going deeper into your thoughts.
It's Ace phone with Magicam open on it. Before you is a profile of a model and actor, as seen from the description. You scroll a little and open the last posted picture. True to your suspicions, it turns out to be exactly the Neige that you met after classes some time ago. Eyes lighting up in recognition, you murmur a quiet "Huh, I know him". That brings out a reaction from the other two.
They kept on pestering you, until you gave in and told them the whole story. Neither one seemed convinced. And you didn't need them to be, as long as they'd stop pestering you, they were free to believe whatever their sturdy selfish hearts desired.
Tumblr media
"Thank you for accompanying me, prefect. I hope our joined efforts will be fruitful."
Jade smiles in his usual polite manner, fixing straps on his backpack. He leads you along the forest trail, keeping his eyes on the ground on the lookout for mushrooms, hidden by wide leaves and long blades of grass. As the only member of Mountains lovers club, Jade was eager to have somebody - especially the infamous magicless prefect of Ramshackle - come along, even if he knew you only agreed because of some favor you needed from him. Both equipped with light camping gear, you venture up a hill in search of mushrooms. On the way to the top Jade tells you why he took you there in the first place: apparently, on one of the Botanical lessons he learned of a rare species of mushrooms, last seen around that hill; to his delight, the said species weren't hard to care for - a perfect addition to Jade's terrarium - and the way from NRC wasn't long or tiresome, which allowed him to bring you along without worrying about you collapsing halfway from exhausting, not quite used to walking big distances.
Whatever fears you might've had for the trip instantly evaporate when you notice how passionate your senior is about his hobby. It's not the fear-inducing hitman everybody sees and describes him as, but only an ordinary highschooler ranting about his interests to the first willing listener. What a heartfelt scene.
"...and it's told to possess strong poison, able to paralyze a mammal as big as an elephant from just a bite. Why, isn't that curious? I'd love to have one of them in my disposition."
...up until the moment his (seemingly inherited) thirst for murder lets itself be known.
The higher the trail goes, the more changes add to scenery. Colorful wild plants and berries, butterflies and beetles of various kinds. And most importantly - air, fresh and free, a fine change compared to stuffed school air you've grown used to.
"According to the data I collected, it should be growing around this area. I propose splitting up for more efficiency. Can I trust you not to get lost, mauled by beasts or poisoned?", looking you over, he thinks for a second, soon reconsidering, "No, it would be best for you to just stay put and wait for me there. Do try not to wander off too far, and call for me if needed - after all, for this short while your safety is my responsibility."
"Then why did you even drag me along?"
"For company. Hiking is most enjoyable with a companion. Take this as a chance to catch a break from all the bustle your poor body has had to endure. Do not worry, I won't be away for more than five minutes."
He frames his words (so unlike the thinly veiled threats and mocking remarks he'd usually make in school) with a nod, leisurely going his own way, often bending down to check under trees and most suspicious patches of grass for mushrooms, before he disappears from sight.
You decide to take a seat on a dry stump, surrounded by vibrant-green moss. Birds' trill fills in the growing silence. Leaves rustle somewhere over your head - something you would've hardly heard a minute or two ago. As if trying to accommodate a picky guest, the nature around you beams in full flourish, bringing a sure sense of comfort. Despite having intruded its domain, you don't feel alien - with no visible threats nearby, you follow Jade's advice and give yourself permission to relax... only to be disturbed by someone's voice reaching from down the hill.
"Hey! Anybody here? Please, help me!"
...No need to think twice to recognize the voice. What a coincidence. There's no way he just appeared there, far away from both his and your schools, all by himself, and didn't even you and Jade's path.
"By the way, five minutes should've already passed by now. Where the hell is he?"
This whole situation is starting to look like one big ridiculous play. It wouldn't be so surprising if Vil suddenly popped out from under a rock, shouting 'Cut!' and reprimanding you for lacking proper emotions. You drag a hand across your face, constructing a simple plan in head: rescue Neige, tell him off, find Jade and pass out on the couch in Ramshackle. With a set of tasks in mind you venture down the trail - good thing it was obvious enough not to get lost among the greenery - and follow the boy's calls, not without tripping a couple of times on the way.
"Heey- ah, hello! Thank the Sevens you were near!", here he is, hanging upside down from a tree branch, legs tangled up in a... hunting net? "For a moment I was afraid I'll have to hang there all day and night. Could you please get me down?"
"What were you doing there in the first place?", moreover in such a casual attire, as if he just walked out of his room...
"Ah, that... is a long story. May I tell you after my feet get to touch ground?", he answered with a sheepish smile.
You sigh, but relent, reaching into one of your pockets for a switchblade, then grasp the rope (it wasn't hanging too high) and cut it. "Should've told him to brace for the fall", you thought, watching him land face-first into dirt. While Neige was preoccupied with brushing off his cardigan, you pocket your knife, preparing to go search for your mushroom-obsessed companion (how ironic for the one who was worried about you getting lost to disappear himself), but not without the black-haired boy scrambling after you.
"Thank you! Once again, I don't know what I would do if it weren't for you." "Mhm." "I'm not sure how, but I suddenly found myself here after following a butterfly, and-" "Yeah, great. You can go back home now." "But how can I leave and not even offer a token of my appreciation for your help? How about-"
Jade better come back as soon as humanly possible, because, Seven be witness, you might just tie this boy to the biggest tree in the forest and leave him to be eaten by wolves. At least Schoenheit will have a reason for a genuine smile this one time.

Answering Eagles questions before the season 3 finale (Part 2/2)
I've received a bunch of questions since 3x08 and 3x09 dropped, so I compiled all the questions into two posts. I had to split them up because Tumblr only allows 10 images per post. Anyway, keep reading to see my answers and enjoy! 👇
Tumblr media
There might be some kind of collaboration between Amie and Ludde like last season—we have only heard snippets of Ludde's song submission to the music school and it wouldn't surprise me if we saw Amie perform the song in its entirety in the last episode. I touched on this a little in part 1 of answering these questions.
It seems like Amie singing at the end of the season has become kind of a recurring theme. She performed “Follow” in 1x08 and “Second Sight” in 2x10 (on the radio, but my point still stands). I wouldn’t be surprised if they followed this trend by having Amie perform a new song in the season 3 finale.
I'm not sure if she'll recommend Ludde to the record label, though. I honestly still feel like Amie's whole storyline with sending in a rather basic demo written by two teenagers with little to no experience and then getting praised on it with comments such as "it's going to be a real summer hit" felt so unrealistic to me. Maybe they only said that so Amie would accept their offer or something, but that's still very strange because she would have still said yes without a doubt.
I can understand that they thought Amie was marketable as a person and there was this bonus with her having gone viral before on Felicia's Instagram, but that demo did not seem good enough for me to be immediately released as a single and then have them decide on the spot that Amie would be given a contract.
I mean, come on. It never felt earned because we never really saw Amie struggling with her songwriting journey to achieve this dream. Sending in one demo to one record label and having them immediately want to make a whole album with you just doesn't happen in real life unless the song is extremely good or you have a very unique voice. Amie is really talented but there are hundreds of people just like her, if not thousands. I was never convinced by her getting signed so quickly in season 2.
I understand that they wanted to establish her as a successful artist, but that felt so rushed. I was so sure that the record label would screw her over and steal the song rights to record it with another artist who was already established, and that we'd have to see Amie work even harder to achieve her dreams. But we didn't get that at all. Where was the struggle?
Anyway, I'm getting a little off-topic here. To be honest I have a lot of problems with the writing sometimes, even if I still love the show and its characters. Of course I wanted to see Amie achieve success (and I was happy when she did), but the journey there was so bizarrely easy.
She didn't start to seriously work on making her music career become a reality until season 2. Amie had dabbled in music prior to that, like when she auditioned for the school band and did that performance of Follow, but she didn't truly start to work towards it until season 2 when she decided to have her work sent to professionals in the business. And then, just five episodes later, she gets contacted by the record label in Stockholm.
To put this into context—season 2 took place somewhere around March, and episode 5 around three weeks into April. So when Ludde first started helping Amie it took less than two months for her to get signed. You could argue that the song was just that good or that Amie is just that talented, but it never felt like a realistic storyline to me.
So, back to your question! I need to stop getting so sidetracked while answering these haha. I don't think it would be realistic for the record label to hire a teenager with no professional songwriting experience, likely a very small portfolio of his own work in both size and variety, having a criminal record, and on top of that being infamous in the press for abusing his ex-girlfriend. If Amie offered the ultimatum to her label that she'll only return with Ludde, who has an incredibly bad reputation right now, it feels like she would be running the risk of losing the contract entirely.
There's only so much her label can put up with. We've seen Amie ignore their calls with no intention of reassuring them that she's coming back soon. Honestly, with the way things are looking right now it makes the most sense for the contract to be dropped. By Amie or by the label, I don't know.
The episode description for the season finale says that Ludde will get some sort of justice and it could be about his music (or something related to whatever Andreas is doing).
I believe Amie will be doing a live performance of Ludde's song at a New Year's Eve party in episode 10 but I doubt that Ludde will be picked up as a producer. If he actually does I would find that to be a very unrealistic plot point, to be completely honest with you.
Tumblr media
This is an issue I had with 3x08 and 3x09 as well. I had a hard time actually enjoying the moment between Felicia, Klara, and Amie knowing that her family was getting increasingly worried for her and even thought for a short moment that Felicia was lying dead at the bottom of the ocean. All that could've been avoided.
To add, it didn't make a lot of sense to me that when Klara finally decided to call someone she called Amie instead of Elias. An ex-friend of Felicia's instead of her brother who could've helped a lot more. What was Amie supposed to do when she showed up at the hotel, exactly?
I know there was the thing with Klara only knowing Amie's number off the top of her head, but there is no reason why she couldn't have gone down to the reception while Felicia was sleeping and asked to use a computer just to get a quick message to Elias. Like, "hey, Felicia attempted something bad but she's safe with me, we're at this hotel in this room but she didn't want me to call anybody, I don't know what to do". That would've been so much better than keeping quiet about the situation for nearly 24 hours.
I know that Klara probably has trauma from leaving her dad at the hospital after his suicide attempt and that she probably didn't want to go against Felicia's wishes. I understand the first part 100%. But Felicia was in a very bad place emotionally and was thinking that her whole family hated her when that wasn't the case. I feel like in a situation like that you kind of have to be the bad guy just to ensure the family that Felicia was safe. Even if everything turned out alright in the end, it could've gone so much worse if Felicia had wanted to be kept hidden for longer.
The ending of 3x08 was super tough to watch and I can't imagine the feeling of thinking your only daughter/sister drowned herself after you just yelled at her and showed no support. Klara couldn't have known any of this, but I feel like she should've at least contacted Elias if she wasn't taking Felicia to a hospital.
Elias calling Amie would've been an easy solution to this whole debacle but we would've lost the drama. It's still somewhat of a plot hole though, like you said.

Thank you for reading that whole post @detectivejulesohara!
The clip you're referring to was posted on Yandeh Sallah's Instagram account, so not in a trailer for this season.
I think that was either just fanservice or it will appear in season 4 since it was posted in May of this year, and I believe the filming of season 3 had already wrapped by then.
It might indicate that Elias and Amie will be a couple by season 4 (this actually seems very likely regardless if this is actually part of a scene or not).
Tumblr media
I think Elias is getting increasingly frustrated with hockey and the fact that he doesn't really have any other ambitions to strive for. He was raised with nothing but hockey surrounding him and it's in his blood. Elias got drafted to the US at around the same age as Mats, but Elias left after a year because he just wasn't progressing.
That must feel like a huge step back, and on top of that Mats was probably thriving in his successful career around the age that Elias is now. It's a tough difference in success to have weighing on your shoulders when you're in a team that's second to last in the rankings.
There's even the accusation in the press that Mats paid for Elias to advance in the rankings, and I'm sure that's going to affect his career negatively.
I think Elias overworking himself could also be the result of him feeling like he has to prove that returning to Eagles—a small club that is probably having their worst season ever—was in fact the right choice and not the death of his elite hockey career. That choice was very questionable from the very start and his agent advised against it. Even Mats found it strange. Elias said that he didn't really have a choice most likely because of the clause in his contract, but then he also claims to Mats that things just turned out that way.
Ludde: You don’t regret coming back [to Eagles]? Elias: I didn’t really have a choice.
The idea that he didn't have a choice in the matter doesn't seem accurate. His agent told him there were other alternatives like Jokerit (a professional ice hockey team based in Helsinki, Finland) and that they could find something better than Eagles. Elias seemed kind of defeated already and the decision to return to Eagles didn't feel thought-through at all. It's almost like he just didn't care.
Agent: [...] Jokerit has called and I’ve had a great conversation with them, so they’re on. Elias: You know what? Let’s skip all the trouble. Let’s go with Eagles, it’ll be great. Agent: What? Elias: I’m so tired of moving all the time anyway, plus I’ll be close to my family. Agent: Wait, I thought that you— Eagles has big economical problems, and… Sorry, but their season started awfully. We can get a better team. You understand, right? Elias: Yeah, but we can’t get a team that needs me as much. Plus— If they say they want to see development, I’ll give them that. Agent: Wait— They’re under the line. We’re talking about qualifying down directly. You can’t in earnest believe you’ll change that on your own. Elias: It’s perfect. I’ll only go up, as you like to say.
It also seems like he's maybe realizing that hockey isn't everything and that there are other things he might want to explore and pursue in his life. I think Elias is feeling kind of stuck right now. He's been training his whole life for one purpose which is a professional career in hockey, and maybe he feels like Mats wouldn't allow him to quit. That option doesn't exist to him.
Like you said, Mats had that comment where he labeled Ludde a "quitter" and Elias stressed the fact that there shouldn't be anything wrong with losing interest and deciding to pursue something else.
Mats: Can you imagine that he’s just quitting? I mean, I’m completely— He really didn’t strike me as a quitter. So fucking close. [...] Elias: [...] Ludde, he’s… He’s not a quitter, he’s just didn’t want it anymore. That should be fair.
However, quitting is seen as failure to Mats. Mats dropped everything when he got drafted. He left his relationship with Petra seemingly without a second thought, because hockey comes before everything for Mats. Felicia even mentioned back in season 1 how her father was just a voice in a telephone for most of her childhood. He barely had any presence in her life because he was busy with hockey.
When Klara tells Elias that he's always putting hockey first, he gets angry but he doesn't outright deny it. In fact, he kind of changes the subject to shift attention away from Klara's claim.
Klara: This— You haven’t changed at all. You’re always putting yourself first. Elias: Excuse me? Klara: Yes, it’s either you or hockey. Elias: Stop! What the— Klara: I can’t take this. Elias: Are you leaving now? I wasn’t the only one you dumped. You’ve been acting like shit to Felicia. Yeah, and Amie and Ludde too, for that matter. You haven’t thought about that? So don’t come here and say I’m the egoist.
This is kind of an interesting thought—that maybe Elias subconsciously knew that was Klara is saying is true to some degree and that he has been putting hockey first. He decided to get on the train to the draft combine in Seattle instead of staying with Klara, and a year later he realizes that things didn't turn out the way that he'd planned and he returns to Eagles.
Maybe Elias is trying so hard to be someone who he just isn't, and it's affecting so many aspects of his life negatively. He lost Klara, he had to repeat almost his whole last year in high school because of moving to the US, and now he seems to be stuck in Oskarshamn. He's previously expressed to Amie that this isn't necessarily where he wanted to end up.
Elias: [...] Hey, is it just me or is there something about this town that… It sort of feels like no matter how much you try to get away, it… It pulls you back somehow.
It's kind of strange that he doesn't want to be in Oskarshamn, and yet he was the one who chose to return. Maybe he somehow feels like he has some purpose there because it keeps pulling him back. He just doesn't know what that purpose is.
Elias tried coming back to Eagles to turn things around for them, and they did win a game against the Capitals but that victory was later tarnished by the fight that broke out between the two teams (and to add to this, the loss of Ludde who used to be one of the star players and Klara as a sponsor). That kind of overshadowed their whole victory. Elias was very determined to do something to help and it very much feels like he needs Eagles to succeed—he needs to sort of "redeem" himself.
Elias: [...] Can I do anything? Can I go talk to— I could go talk to the sponsor. Mats: Let’s deal with it later. I’ll solve this. You have to go to school now. Elias: But we can finish talking— Mats: You can— No. Try to think of something else. Alright?
I think that Elias's desperation for Eagles to do well could absolutely lead to him eventually deciding to be a coach. He doesn't really seem to want the life that Mats had after seeing how success turned out for him—a broken family that he barely cares about because hockey occupies his mind more than caring for his children or repairing the relationship with Leila.
I think Elias being a hockey coach could suit him, but I would also love to see him exploring things outside of hockey—maybe even his interests outside of sport entirely.
Tumblr media
I kind of agree with you on this. Klara has apologized to Felicia and been forgiven, but we've never seen her properly apologize to Amie for filming that video of her and posting it on social media. Amie and Ludde were in the wrong, yes, but that video being posted was humiliating for both of them. They had to deal with the ramifications of that for months after with the whole school judging them in silence.
To be fair, the video was posted a long time ago in the show's time frame (nearly two years ago if I'm right?) and they all kind of moved on from it. To add to this, maybe she felt it would've been kind of awkward to apologize with Felicia in the room.
Felicia was so hurt by that video being posted and I think it would feel very weird for her that Klara would apologize for posting the video when it's the sole reason Felicia found out what had been done to her. Without that video, she would've probably gone a few more months without being told what happened at the Halloween party.
I'm waiting for a Klara and Amie reconciliation in this season finale. I feel like this is something that should be discussed between just the two of them, and maybe they'll sneak in some blessing from Klara with the whole budding Elias and Amie relationship? I'd be happy with just a reconciliation, though, but I'm unsure if we'll get one. I have a feeling they'll start the season finale with a time jump and I don't know if Klara is even going to be in Oskarshamn by that time.
If we don't see them reconnecting in the season finale I will be pretty disappointed, to be honest.
Tumblr media
Thank you! I really appreciate you too @lunawedlers (your gifsets are absolutely magical)!
This question was sent in a while ago but as season 3 had just started airing I was very excited to see the development of Elias and Amie, mostly because the director had been hinting on Twitter that something would happen between them this season. I've been really interested in them ever since 1x03 and so far the wait has been worth it.
I think all episodes have great visuals, but if I had to pick one I would probably say 3x06. All those shots of Elias and Amie on the walk through the park, the drone shots, and then the view from that bench spot were so gorgeous visually. That answer is more of a scene rather than a whole episode haha, but I think they really made the beauty of Oskarshamn stand out in those shots.
Tumblr media
I think Amie will have some sort of performance in the final episode of a new song and that Elias will be watching her! After reading the episode description for the final episode and seeing that there will probably be some New Year's Eve party going on, I have a feeling that Amie will be performing. She's always had a performance of a new song in every season finale and this one should be no exception.
They tricked us a little in the season 3 trailer with us thinking that Elias would be at one of Amie's concerts in Stockholm, but now I'm sure that this scene fits in at the New Year's Eve party.
I think we should keep our expectations low for a kiss between Elias and Amie. They just started developing their relationship, and I like the slow pace they're going in. They're not rushing anything. I also have this feeling that their development has deliberately been so slow because they're sort of "saving the best for last".
Elias and Amie are fan favorites and their relationship has been very talked-about from the beginning. I can see the writers maybe having decided to push their relationship more towards the end of the show, which is why we haven't really gotten any Elias and Amie content until now. That's frustrating if you're impatient and I've seen some people thinking that maybe Elias and Amie won't happen at all, but I don't think we need to worry at all. The fact that Elias and Amie's development has been so slow should indicate that they're much more likely to be endgame.
A kiss in episode 10 could definitely happen, but I don't know. Maybe they'll drag it out further. As I've said before, if they don't get one in season 3 they will absolutely be getting one in season 4. I've noticed that it's always best to keep your expectations low when it comes to this couple.
The episode description for the season finale said this about Elias, which some have interpreted to be about Amie.
New Year’s Eve is here. [...] But is Elias brave enough to say what everyone else already knows?
This could mean anything, really. I'm actually leaning more towards this being about an individual thing rather than Amie being involved. It could be about Elias admitting that he's been overworking himself and not eating properly, or coming clean about the fact that maybe he doesn't want a career in hockey. This is something that everyone else already knows, so I think it might be about hockey.
Felicia has observed the overworking, Mats has told him to stop with it, and Ludde might've had some inkling about it while he was still on the team. Even Amie has probably also noticed that he's been spending a lot of time at the gym lately.
I could absolutely be wrong about this though.
Tumblr media
Thank you for the question @lunawedlers!
This is a hard one because season 3 has had so many strong episodes already, and usually my favorite episode ends up being the season finale because it's basically the culmination of the whole season. I really loved 2x10 for this very reason since the ending montage was so well done.
If I had to pick between 3x01 - 3x09 though I would probably have to say it's a tie between 3x04 — Date night and 3x05 — Wounds! These two episodes showcased what Eagles should be all about so well, which is relationships plus the struggles you go through as a teenager in a small town, and then of course hockey. The hockey game episodes are really good, even if I don't think 3x05 topped 2x05 (the game where Ludde got tackled and knocked out).
I loved the contrast in Date night of the budding relationship between Elias and Amie and then that fight between Felicia and Ludde on the cliff. That whole scene between Felicia and Ludde on the cliff was actually really beautiful, especially when the sun had gone down.
It was interesting to see how this sweet gesture from Felicia turned into a fight between the two of them. I thought that was very realistic, because no matter how big of a gesture Felicia made to apologize there were still underlying problems that they needed to talk about.
I also loved the "non-date" between Elias and Amie in this episode. It was cute to see them goofing off before the movie started and then talking about it on the way home. I liked how Elias could connect to her on how they had both returned to Oskarshamn.
The recent episodes that dropped last week (3x08 and 3x09) were very strong and discussed some important subject matters, but I had a few problems with them that I discussed in a question above. They were dark, but not necessarily bad because they needed to happen.
However, I have to say that I prefer Eagles when it's about hockey and teenage relationships. 3x04 and 3x05 made me kind of nostalgic for season 1 and I liked the vibe they both had.
Tumblr media
I agree, but I think we could maybe get a combination of both! Relationships can have all these romantic and sweet traits like you described, but also be more passionate and show public displays of affection.
I think Elias and Amie fit the more laid-back and sweet characteristics, but we have yet to really see what Amie is like in a relationship. We've seen her with a crush on Ludde and we got a glimpse of that thing she had with Robin (which was apparently a relationship but I did not pick up on that at all), but we don't really know what Amie is like in a relationship. Maybe she's never really had a "real" one, either.
Nevertheless, I'm excited to see what's in store for Elias and Amie. I'm very positive that they will eventually become a couple in season 4.

(1/2) hi there! so, i don't really consider myself a "new" christian- i've felt drawn to god since i was young- but i only started reading the bible about a week ago. i set a goal for myself of reading 20 chapters a day so that i will have read the entire bible in ~2 months, which was very manageable initially because april break was still in progress when i started. however, now that i have schoolwork to do, i'm finding that i just don't have enough time in the day to read that many chapters.
(2/2) i don't want to disregard my goal, but if i force myself to read too much each day, i fear that i won't be able to retain or appreciate much of what i read. i'm not sure what to do. should i lessen my ambitions at the cost of taking longer to read it overall, or somehow muscle through 20 chapters a day at the cost of not fully understanding them? sorry this isn't relevant to lgbt matters- i'm just always comforted by your advice and wasn't sure where else to turn. thank you for your time!
______
Ah, don’t be sorry! If I could talk about the Bible all day every day, I’d be thrilled! (I’m autistic and scripture is my mainstay special interest haha)
This gets super long so tl;dr: I vote for revising your goal and reading less per day. You don’t wanna get burned out, and you want to be able to retain what you read and have the chance to really mull it over!
It means a lot to me that folks like you come to me for suggestions; I’m by no means an expert but golly do I love the Bible, and I’ve been reading it since childhood -- first picture book & abridged versions, then the “real deal” starting in ninth grade, and these days I often translate passages from the original Greek and Hebrew. So I’m always joyful to share what I’ve learned about reading the Bible, particularly in ways that combine the spiritual and the scholarly.
_____
I super admire your dedication to reading the entire Bible; most Christians never do so and while it’s by no means a prerequisite to being Christian, I find that actually reading it all can be a great help in many ways:
First, it means that no one can tell you what’s in the Bible without you being able to bring your point of view to the discussion, because you’ve read it too. You don’t have to just accept what others say about it, ya know?
Secondly, there really is deep richness in the Bible; the Holy Spirit will breathe through the pages as you read and enliven your heart. You’ll learn more about what it means to be in relationship with God, with yourself, with other humans, and with all Creation.
Finally, only in reading the entirety of the Bible to you come to see the overarching themes of scripture, the fullest glimpse of the God it reveals. The separate fragments and books of the Bible are distinct from one another in many ways, written by many authors with differing opinions and understandings of God; but once you’ve read them all it is possible to trace the path of the Divine across them all.
Hopefully, you’ll grow more comfortable with things like contradiction and doubt. You’ll learn how to scoop up glimmers of the Divine even in Bible stories that make you shake with anger or scratch your head nonplussed. You’ll learn that being faithful doesn’t = having all the answers, but instead is about a willingness to engage in dialogue with God and with others, to constantly learn and question and grow.
All that being said, 20 chapters is a lot to get through in a day!! Whew!! I do recommend reconsidering your goal. It was a valiant one and I’m impressed you were able to do it for a time, but it’s totally okay to re-plan things. I used to be really, like, averse to the idea of revising goals; I felt like a failure or like I was weak or something if I had to change them? So if that’s what you’re feeling, do what you can to let that feeling go. There is no shame or weakness in realizing that your current plan isn’t working for you. The true shame is in refusing to change your ways when everything is pointing to a need for change!
Decrease your goal to something more manageable, so that you don’t start dreading your scripture reading and get burnt out. You don’t want to resent the time you reserve for reading! You want to be open to the Spirit’s wisdom as you read.
Honestly, if your goal were to become as general as “read at least one chapter each day,” or even “read at least one paragraph each day,” that would be totally fine! There may be days when you get more done, but even a little passage of scripture is full of richness. And you’ll be showing your dedication and learning spiritual discipline in making time for even a little passage in a busy day.
Yes, you’ll be reading for a lot longer; but there is no rush. Reading the whole Bible isn’t just about cramming all its contents into your brain; it’s also about letting the words seep into your heart. That takes years, lifetimes even.
Still, I understand the desire to have the whole Bible in your head. So the rest of this post is going to try to balance the “scholarly knowledge” of the Bible that you logically want to get into your brain as soon as possible with the spiritual wisdom and impact of the Bible, which is cultivated over a lifetime.
______
The spiritual side of Bible reading
I’m gonna share a passage from Sister Macrina Wiederkehr’s book A Tree Full of Angels about Bible reading, because she describes the richness held in the tiniest crumb of scripture and the wisdom in taking it a little at a time better than I can.
Let’s start with her explanation of the spiritual discipline called “Lectio Divina,” reading the Bible in an embodied way that enriches our understandings of God’s presence in all Creation:
“Here is a way to harvest the Word of God.
The monastic tradition to which I belong has always stressed the value of seeking intimate communion through persistent dwelling with and in the Word of God. We call this form of prayer Lectio Divina (Divine Reading). Lectio Divina is far more than what we ordinarily understand as spiritual reading. It is reading...with the eye of God, under the eye of God. It is reading with the desire to be totally transformed by the Word of God, rather than just to acquire facts about God.
The incarnational aspect of Christianity reminds us that all of life is full of God. God is in all. Lectio Divina, then, is a way of reading God in everything. ...
In the tradition of our desert fathers and mothers...the emphasis was on the reading of the Scriptures. This was the Word of God par excellence. The discple was encouraged to hover over the word of God in the Scriptures as the Spirit once hovered over the birthing world. ...The one who is immersed in the Word of God in the Scriptures is eventually able to read God in all things. ...
Macrina then brings up Guigo II, a monk from the 1100s who came up with four phases or degrees of the Lectio: reading, meditation, prayer, contemplation.
It sounds to me like you’re currently most focused on the “reading” phase, since you’re busying yourself with getting through the whole Bible as soon as you can. That is totally cool!
Guigo II described the reading phase as putting food in the mouth, while “meditation chews it, digs for the treasure. Prayer extracts the flavor and helps us get to know the treasure. Contemplation embraces and welcomes the thirsty soul.”
I know that there are days when I just can’t seem to get my spirit into the latter three phases of the Lectio; I can only manage the reading phase. So I read, with the faith that by absorbing the content of Bible pages into my brain, there will come a time when I chew on that content, digest it, find the treasure in it. Thus I don’t think it’s a bad thing to read the Bible primarily in that “info-gathering” mode -- the more scholarly mode -- but when you’re ready and able to wade in deeper, do so! That might be every day for you, especially if you don’t spend all your time and energy on cramming in as many passages as possible; or it might be something you don’t really get to until you’ve read whole books of the Bible. I’m not saying there’s one right way to do all this -- just stuff to consider!
But I will emphasize the “meditation” phase Macrina describes next, because I think it might help you decide that yes, you do need to cut down on just how much of the Bible you read daily. Here’s what she says about how much of the Bible she reads in one sitting:
“Read until your heart is touched. When your heart is touched, stop reading. After all, if God comes in the first verse, why go on to the second? A touched heart means God has, in some way, come. God has entered that heart. Begin your meditation.
Meditation is a process in which you struggle with the Word of God that has entered your heart. If this Word wants to be a guest in your heart, go forth to meet it. Welcome it in and try to understand it. Walk with it. Wrestle with it. Ask it questions. Tell it stories about yourself. Allow it to nourish you. Receive its blessing. To do this you must sink your heart into it as you would sink your teeth into food. You must chew it with your heart.
... You may ask if there is ever a day when my heart is not touched. Yes, there are many. On some days each psalm or gospel passage is like the parched earth. There is nothing moist or life-giving to be found in the words I read. I see this barrenness as a message from God also. ...God also speaks in silence and darkness. So when nothing comes, when darkness prevails, then too, I lay my Bible down. My word is silent darkness. I carry the dryness, the emptiness, the silent darkness with me through the day. It is only in darkness that one can see the stars. I have seen too many stars to let the darkness overwhelm me. Even though You are silent, still I will trust You.”
So, yeah. That’s Macrina’s instruction for reading the Bible -- it leans very heavily onto the spiritual side of Bible reading. But the scholarly side is important too, especially for your first go-around! Let’s get into that.
______________
The scholarly side of Bible reading
People who have to read part or all of the Bible for school know that Macrina’s method of reading only “till your heart is touched” is pretty, but not pragmatic. There were times when I’d be assigned all of Exodus, or all of John, or all of Paul’s letters to read within a few days or a week in seminary -- so I wasn’t that focused on getting spiritual fulfillment out of the words then! I just had to cram that info into my brain so my teacher would know I did the homework!
I feel like your first Bible read-through is probably going to lean more heavily on the scholarly side than the spiritual, because if the stories aren’t already in your head, getting them in there is your primary goal.
As you read I cannot recommend enough the use of footnotes or commentaries or other resources to help you make sense of what you are reading. Especially when you come to the more problematic or culturally-complex parts of the Bible. You’re not the first to have questions and confusion and distress about things in scripture; so let others who’ve been in your shoes and done research help you out! By finding trusty resources, you’re leaning on a whole community, just as Christians are called to do.
I’ve got a post here with recommendations for Bibles with good footnotes, for online Bible resources, etc.
One of the resources listed in that post is the Bible Project’s YouTube series that offers a short video for each book of the Bible. It might be cool for you to watch through all of those in the coming month, so that you can get those “main ideas” and Bible stories into your head now, even while your reading of the actual Bible slows down. Those videos can be like a “sneak peak” for what’s in store as you continue to read through scripture.
If you prefer text to video, you could also consider getting a “family Bible” / “children’s Bible” to read through! I recommend the DK Illustrated Family Bible, because it has wonderful historical notes and images, and it quotes from the Bible verbatim rather than paraphrasing it in kid-friendly language. Reading through that Bible could totally be done in 2 months, no sweat, unlike getting through the whole Bible. And then you’ll have the main stories and themes in your head asap, while not letting your Bible reading overwhelm you or burn you out.
________
To wrap up, here are a couple other resources you might find useful as you continue your reading:
A webpage I made discussing a framework for scripture that takes it seriously and affirms LGBTQ+ persons; concepts like divine inspiration, “cherry-picking,” and the rule of love are also discussed
A post addressing misogynistic passages of the Bible; oh and another post on sexism in the Bible
A post addressing the potential for antisemitism when reading the Bible through a Christian lens
And in my Rachel Held Evans tag you’ll find quotes from her wonderful book Inspired: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, and Loving the Bible Again, which is such a helpful little book for those wanting a crash-course in things like cultural context, divine inspiration vs. human authors, and grappling with violence in the Bible.
I hope that something in this post helps you out, anon! And best of luck to you as you continue your journey through scripture!

I'VE BEEN PONDERING CHANGES
I have to say, but it seems like a decent hypothesis. It's just as well to let a big company, then you may need to be written as thin enough skins that users can see the two side by side that you notice how little overlap there is. Everyone is focused on this type of wealth through economic policy, it's hard to do it? You do tend to get a check within a week based on a half-page agreement. No philosopher ever refuted another, for example, would arguably be gross even if they had to make concessions. We did, and it was through personal contacts that we got most of the extra computer power we're given will go to waste. I look at the responses, the common theme is that starting a startup.
I don't know if it will work, but it won't hurt as much. The big bang guys. They know their audience. Not only does a society get the best man for the job, but parents' ambitions are diverted from direct methods to indirect ones—to actually trying to raise their kids well. People who want to get it from the rich. For better or worse, the just-do-it model and the careful model, I'd probably choose just-do-it model is fast, whether you're Dan Bricklin writing the prototype of VisiCalc in a weekend, or a carefully cropped image of a seacoast town in Maine. One thing hackers like is brevity. School. Even Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Larry Ellison, Michael Dell, Jeff Bezos, Gordon Moore. By all means be optimistic about things you can't control. That would have led to disaster, because our software was so complex. Kill-or-cure strategies are optimal for VCs because they're protected by the portfolio effect.
Nothing is hidden from you that doesn't absolutely have to be willing to change your product. If you're writing for other people, you may be the sort of wealth that becomes self-perpetuating through an alliance with power. It might also be inevitable, if you roll a zero for luck, the outcome is zero. But this approach is hard to implement. Whereas when you're big you can maltreat them at will, and you rule the world. Everything that came to us through the mass media was a blandly uniform and b produced elsewhere. At the moment, even the government. There was then a fashionable type of program called an expert system, at the time, and both got their degrees. In some fields, like software or movies, this is the best nonfiction writer I know of, on any subject.
The more people who have incomplete information about prices. That's kind of hard to imagine. Today it may well be zero. Startups are certainly a large part of it. I were going to start a company now, you may never quite be able to be included in it. Wealth is what people want, and to allow programmers to use inline byte code if you need to know the type of every argument in every call in the program. You're just asking to be made a fool of, because these are such powerful forces. A restaurant with great food seem to prosper no matter what. Look at restaurants. And the Internet makes copies easy to distribute.
That's why things get so much better. A friend of mine who knows a lot about VCs during the 3 years we've been doing Y Combinator, I remembered. It's there to some degree; you'll find it awkward to be the scripting languages of web browsers. The course of people's lives in the US were designed by architects who expected to live in Silicon Valley, where you have to declare the types of arguments in the bottlenecks. For most of history a well-understood way into underlying s-expressions. My only leisure activities were running, which I needed to do, and even make major changes, as you might expect, is not very good. But just imagine calling Picasso the mercurial Spaniard when talking to a friend? What do they all have in common is that they're overconfident.
Even if your colleagues were impressed by your credentials, they'd soon be parted from you if your performance didn't match, because the schools adjust to suit whatever the tests measure. Like all illicit connections, the connection between wealth and power. For a lot of time imitating bad writers. Since the hundred-year language will work to varying degrees depending on how close you are to your current one. It seems safe to predict they will be 74 quintillion 73,786,976,294,838,206,464 times faster. So I think people who are mature and experienced, with a feeling of dread in the back to win. It must once have been inhabited by someone fairly eccentric, because a lot of restaurants around, not some dreary office park that's a wasteland after 6:00 PM. Others see what they've done and are full of wonder, but the pain of having this stupid controversy constantly reintroduced as the top idea in their mind at any given time. At the moment I'd almost say that a language has to be under the control of a single person to be any good. What you notice in the Forbes 400 are a lot of things.
Com, you should get all the users, and the bad gets ignored. The way people act is just as lumpy and idiosyncratic as the human body. So if you want to make a winning product. Believe it or not, programming languages are also for people, and I expect this to be as big a problem, you may find you no longer have such a target and to keep it. I thought it would be to start or join a startup. Letting focus groups design your cars for you only wins in the short term.1 Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. These are not early numbers. It would crush its competitors. They'll make sure that suing them is expensive and slows you down, why do nearly all companies do it?
I've found that it matters a lot how code lines up on the bottom. It's not unusual to get a job, your parents probably did, along with practically every other adult you've met. The reason Florence is famous is that in 1450, it was New York. More people are the right sort of person who could get away with using fancy language in prose.2 So I sent all the founders an email asking what surprised them most was the idea of having a lot of changes that have been forced on VCs, this change won't turn out to be as big a problem, you may never quite be able to make arbitrary transformations on the source code.3 They seem to have become professional fundraisers who do a little research on the side of a car are to speed. We used to call these guys newscasters, because they don't give customers what they want, which happens to be written in the language fits together like the parts in a fine camera. Sun did this to mainframes, and Intel is doing it to Sun. I would not feel confident saying that about investors twenty years ago. It seems like we ought to value the company at several million dollars.
Notes
We didn't know ourselves which VC firms expect to do something we didn't, they very often come back with my co-founders Mark Nitzberg and Olin Shivers at the command of the most part and you need to warn readers about, just as on Reddit, for an investor pushes you hard to ignore what your project does.
You can get for free. If the response doesn't come back; Apple can change them instantly if they want to start using whatever you make something hackers use. Most were wrong, but nothing else: no friends, TV, go running.
Cit. In some cases the process of applying is inevitably so arduous, and it would be to become more stratified. You end up reproducing some of those you can eliminate, do it. In principle companies aren't limited by the time 1992 the entire cross-country Internet bandwidth wasn't enough for one user.

LETTERS I'VE WRITTEN ( NEVER MEANING TO SEND) CHAPTER 2
~~ Letters I’ve Written ~~
"We should probably go," Aubrey said, looking at Chloe. She turned to Stacie and said, "Thanks, Stacie."
Before Stacie could say anything, her phone pinged with a text. She glanced at her phone, and her eyes widened. "It's, uh, from Beca," Stacie said, looking down at her phone. "She wants me to call her."
"Oh," Chloe said. "We'll let you get to it."
Chloe and Aubrey stood, and Stacie stopped them.
"No, wait," Stacie said. "Stay. I think it's time you two talked to each other. I'll call Beca and see if she's calling about the letters. Then, we'll take it from there."
Aubrey and Chloe looked at each other. Aubrey nodded her head slightly, and Chloe let out a sigh. The two girls sat back down and looked at Stacie; Chloe nodded.
"Good," Stacie said with a smile and hit the call button.
"Hey, Stacie," Beca said as she answered the phone. "You were too late telling me to send you the envelope back. I had already started reading the letters."
"Oh," Stacie said. "Um, so how do you feel about them?"
"I was angry at first," Beca said. "But after reading the last two, I think I want to see her."
"That's great, Beca!" Stacie said, looking at Chloe with a big smile on her face. "I know she'd like to talk to you."
Beca let out a small laugh. "I don't think she does, Stacie," Beca said. "She told me she hated me and then in the next letter said she was sorry I want to clear the air about why I left; maybe get some closure from it all. She, um, also said she was over me and had a new boyfriend."
"Oh," Stacie said, still looking at Chloe. "I had forgotten about him."
When Stacie looked at her, Chloe mouthed, "What is she saying?"
"Hold on a sec, Beca," Stacie said, staring at Chloe. "There's someone here who wants to talk to you."
Stacie held the phone out to Chloe. Chloe pushed it away, shaking her head and mumbling, "no, no."
"Go ahead, Chloe," Aubrey said. "You said you wanted to talk to her. Now's your chance."
Chloe's eyes were wide, and she was afraid. She didn't know what Beca would say to her, nor did she know what she would say to Beca.
Stacie held the phone out to Chloe and raised her eyebrows. Chloe sighed and reached for the phone.
Aubrey walked over to Stacie and put her arm around her shoulders; Stacie wrapped her arm around her waist.
"Stacie?" Beca's said. "Stacie, what's going on? Are you still there? Hello?"
"Um, hey, Beca," Chloe said. "It's Chloe."
"Oh, um," Beca said, surprised. "Hey, Chloe."
"Can we talk?" Chloe asked.
"Um, yeah, sure," Beca said. "Do you want to start?"
"Okay," Chloe said and took a deep breath. "Um, why did you leave without saying goodbye?"
Beca sighed into the phone. She knew the question was coming but didn't expect it to be the first thing Chloe asked.
"You called me a child," Beca said. "I liked you and was going to ask you out. But, then, I heard you tell Tom that I wasn't someone you'd be interested in because I was still a child."
"What?" Chloe exclaimed. "I never said that!"
"Yes, you did!" Beca said. "I heard you say it!"
"No way, uh-uh," Chloe said, shaking her head, although Beca couldn't see her. Tears came to Chloe's eyes. "I don't know what you think you heard, but I would never say that."
"What is she saying?" Aubrey whispered to Chloe.
"She said I called her a child," Chloe said, holding the phone so Beca couldn't hear. "She said that I said I wasn't interested in her because she was a child. But I never said that."
"Ask her when she thinks you said it," Stacie suggested.
Chloe took a deep breath and wiped her tears. She put the phone back up to her ear and asked, "When did I supposedly say that?"
"Remember that frat party the Bellas went to the week before your graduation?"
"Yeah? Kind of."
"You were talking to Tom," Beca said. "He was trying to get into your pants, and you told him no."
"Oh, yeah," Chloe said. "I remember that; I told him no because I wasn't interested in him anymore."
"That's right. That's what you told him," Beca said. "That's when he asked you if it was because of me. He asked you if you were doing me, his words not mine, and that's why you turned him down."
"Oh, my God," Chloe said, remembering the rest of what she said to Tom. "Beca, the other stuff I said to Tom didn't mean anything. I only said it because I wanted him to leave me alone. If I had said it was because of you, he would've kept after me, and I wasn't the least bit interested in him. I, I wanted to be with you. You can ask Aubrey. I went to find her after I left Tom."
Aubrey furrowed her brow and looked at Chloe. "What is she saying now?"
Chloe waved her hand at Aubrey to get her to stop talking.
"Beca?" Chloe said into the phone. "Are you still there?"
"Yeah, I'm here," Beca said quietly. "I, um, I believe you. And I'm an idiot."
"No, you're not," Chloe said, her voice soft. "But, you should have come and talked to me instead of just packing up and leaving."
"You do remember who you're talking to, right?" Beca asked with a self-deprecating laugh.
Chloe chuckled. "I remember. I thought we had agreed that as best friends we would talk to each other about everything."
"I know," Beca said. "But I was hurt and, honestly, heartbroken. I was in love with you, Chloe, and hearing you say those words shattered me."
"You were in love with me?" Chloe asked, swallowing loudly.
"Yeah. I kind of still am," Beca said so softly that Chloe wasn't sure she heard right. "But, that doesn't do me any good now. You have a boyfriend and see a future with him."
"We've only gone out twice, Becs," Chloe said. "That does not make him my boyfriend. And, as I said in my letter, he's-" Chloe cut herself off and looked at Aubrey and Stacie, staring at her and listening with rapt attention. "Um, could you hold on a sec, Beca?"
"Sure," Beca responded.
"On second thought," Chloe said. "Can I get your number from Stacie and call you back once I get home?"
"That's fine," Beca said. "Let me talk to Stacie and let her know it's okay."
"I'll talk to you later," Chloe said and then held the phone out to Stacie. "She wants to talk to you."
"Hey, Beca," Stacie said into the phone. "I heard, and I'll make sure she gets it."
"Thanks, Stacie," Beca said. "We're going to talk some more. Who knows, maybe things will work out, and she still feels the same way about me."
"Maybe," Stacie said with a smile. "I'll call you later."
"Okay," Beca said. "Oh, tell Aubrey I said hi."
"I will," Stacie said with a laugh before ending the call.
Stacie pulled up her text messages and sent Beca's number to Chloe. "I just texted you Beca's number."
"Thanks, Stacie," Chloe said when she heard her phone ping. "And thanks for getting us to start talking again. You don't know what it means to me."
"You're welcome," Stacie said with a smile. "I hope everything works out for you."
"Me, too," Chloe said.
Chloe and Aubrey stood to leave. Stacie walked them to the front door and kissed Aubrey. Just as they were about to walk out, Stacie stopped them.
"Oh, babe," Stacie said. "I almost forgot, Beca said to tell you hi."
"Why would she do that?" Chloe asked Aubrey. "I thought you guys hated each other."
"We didn't always have the best relationship when she was here," Aubrey said. "But, just before she left, we found we had some things in common and started getting along. I guess it was her way of reaching out to me since she cut me off, too."
"Looks like Beca Mitchell may be coming back into all our lives," Chloe said with a smile. "Fingers crossed!"
Aubrey laughed as Chloe crossed her fingers; she did the same. "Yeah, fingers crossed!"
~~ Letters I've Written ~~
Chloe's confidence had waned considerably since she got back home. She was holding her phone and pacing, trying to decide what to say to Beca when she finally called her.
Chloe let out a sigh and pulled up Stacie's text to get Beca's number. She dialed the number and said, "Here goes nothing," just before hitting the call button.
"Hello?" Beca answered.
"Hey, Becs, it's, um, it's Chloe," Chloe said.
"Hey," Beca said. "Um, before we start, I need to apologize to you. It was a dick move to leave like that without saying anything. And it was an even bigger dick move to ghost you for three years. Especially now that I know the true story behind what I overheard, who knows where we could've been by now. You were right, and I should have talked to you about what I heard. I'm really sorry, Chlo."
Chloe smiled and wiped a tear from the corner of her eye. "I accept your apology, Becs. And I'm sorry, too. If I had known you heard what I'd said, I would have made you talk to me so I could explain."
"Apology accepted," Beca said, then cleared her throat. "So, um, tell me about your boyfriend. I'd like to know more about the guy who won your heart."
"I'd rather hear about you," Chloe said, changing the subject. "Do you have any new music coming out? I loved your last song, by the way."
"Thanks," Beca chuckled. "There might be some new music coming out soon."
"Hey," Chloe said. "Are you going to be anywhere near Atlanta any time soon? I hoped we could meet up and talk in person."
"I have to be in Atlanta next week," Beca said. "I'd like to get together so we can talk. Maybe we can move past what happened three years ago and talk about us and what the future holds. How does that sound, Chlo?"
"I'd like that," Chloe said softly. "I'd like that a lot."
"Great!" Beca said. "I promised Stacie to stay the week and hang out, and I'm busy Monday and Tuesday with work stuff. I should have some time from Wednesday on. Why don't you let me know a time that's good for you."
"I already know my schedule is wide open," Chloe said. "Just let me know when you're free."
"I will," Beca replied. "I have to go, but I'll, um, I'll call you tomorrow? Is that okay?"
"Yes, that's fine," Chloe said. "I'll talk to you tomorrow, Becs. Bye."
"Bye, Chlo," Beca said and ended the call.
~~ Letters I've Written ~~
Chloe couldn't help her smile or tears as she hung up from talking to Beca. She was happy that she and Beca had talked and agreed to talk more in person. If Beca didn't have feelings for her, then they could be friends. Truth be told, Chloe thought she might want to be more than friends, but wasn't one-hundred percent sure that would happen. She also knew that she wanted Beca back in her life, so she would take what she could get.
Chloe sighed. She knew that nothing would be decided until she and Beca talked face-to-face.
Chloe was brought back to reality when her phone pinged with a text message. She gasped when she saw it was from Chicago; she had forgotten about him while she was talking to Beca. She opened the message.
Chicago: Hey I know you had some stuff to do today but thought you might have time to go out to dinner. Give me a call when you're free
Chloe read the message and was chewing on her bottom lip. Chicago was a nice guy, but now she wasn't sure if she should go out with him if she were hoping to get something started with Beca. But she wasn't sure if there was anything to get started.
"One more date wouldn't hurt, right?" she thought to herself. "No sense in hurting him if I don't have to. If he asks me out again, I can put him off until after I talk to Beca and figure out what I'm going to do."
Chloe pressed the call button, and Chicago answered on the third ring.
"Hey," Chicago's cheery voice came through the phone. "I guess you got my message?"
"Yeah," Chloe said. "Dinner sounds nice. There's something I need to talk to you about."
Chloe grimaced; she had not intended to say that. "Oh," she thought. "I guess I made up my mind on what I want to do." She may have made up her mind, but she hadn't wanted to dump him over the phone.
"Uh-oh," Chicago said. "That doesn't sound good."
"It's um," Chloe said and hesitated to continue. She cleared her throat and said, "You're a great guy, Chicago."
"Wow, just as I thought," Chicago said. "You don't want to see me anymore. May I ask why? Is it something I did?"
"No, no, this is on me. It's just that it's complicated," Chloe said softly. "I'm, uh, going through something right now. I need to get my head clear, and I don't want you to be collateral damage."
"How long do you think you'll need?" Chicago asked. "I really like you, Chloe, and I'll wait for you if there's a possibility you might want to be with me once you get your head clear."
"I don't know, Chicago," Chloe said. "I'm in love with someone else, and I need to see if they feel the same way. I don't want to lead you on in case things work out for me. I'm sorry."
"Oh, I see," Chicago said sadly. "Uh, Chloe, if things don't work out, give me a call. I think we can be something special."
"I can't promise anything," Chloe said. "I really am sorry."
"Okay, then," Chicago said. "Bye, Chloe. Good luck."
Chicago ended the call before Chloe even said goodbye. Chloe threw her phone onto the table and ran a hand through her hair.
"That was not something I had wanted to do over the phone," Chloe mumbled. "I need a drink."
~~ Letters I've Written ~~
A couple of hours later, Chloe was still feeling bad about ending things with Chicago over the phone. She decided to use the letter-writing technique to help her get over her guilt. She was sitting at the kitchen counter with pen and paper when Aubrey walked in.
"Are you writing Beca another letter?" Aubrey asked.
"No," Chloe said. "This one is for Chicago. I, um, broke up with him over the phone, and I feel bad about it, so I'm writing to him to tell him what I couldn't tell him over the phone."
"Do you feel bad because you didn't want to break up with him?"
"No. I wanted to talk to him in person so I could explain. But when I called him, I blurted out that we needed to talk, and he guessed why and so I just did it."
"You're too soft for your good sometimes," Aubrey said. "Can I ask you something?"
"You can ask me anything," Chloe said, looking up from her writing.
"Do the letters help?" Aubrey asked. "Like, have you written letters to other people?"
"Yes," Chloe said. "I started when I was younger. I had an eating disorder, and my parents took me to a therapist. She could tell that I avoided confronting people who hurt me, so she suggested I write letters to those people. She said to put everything in the letters that I wanted to say to them in person but knew I never would and seal them away. So, I started, and it made me feel better."
"Wow," Aubrey said.
Chloe went back to writing, and Aubrey looked at her for a moment.
"Did you ever write me letters?" Aubrey blurted out and then blushed.
"Yes, I did," Chloe said.
"Can I read them?"
"No. That's not why they were written."
"Beca got to read hers."
"Not because I let her," Chloe said, looking at Aubrey. "I had no control over that. Stacie sent them to her; I wrote her a strongly worded letter about it, too."
Aubrey smiled at that. She stood, leaning against the counter, thinking.
"I've noticed you don't confront people even when they deserve it. I've seen you get upset with people, but you seem to blow it off rather quickly. Is that because you wrote letters?"
"Yes," Chloe said. "Once I've written a letter, I seal it in an envelope where it stays locked away and forgotten."
"You don't take them out and re-read them?" Aubrey asked, curious.
"No," Chloe said. "Once they are sealed away, I don't dwell on them. Plus, after a while, I usually destroy them. Whatever made me write to that person is forgiven and forgotten."
"But, you kept three years worth of letters for Beca," Aubrey said.
"Because all was not forgiven or forgotten," Chloe said. "Things have changed. I admit I was angry with Stacie for sending my letters to Beca without my permission. But, she did me a favor by doing that. We're talking again, and she wants to see me when she comes to Atlanta next week."
"I know," Aubrey said. "Stacie said Beca asked her to see if I would want to get together while she was here."
"Maybe we can invite her over here," Chloe said excitedly. "See if she wants to see the girls and invite them, too."
"Let's hold off on that," Aubrey said. "We can invite her over, but let's wait on inviting the rest of the Bellas. I don't want a big chaotic scene, and you know if the girls come, we won't have any alone time with Beca."
~~ Letters I've Written ~~
It was a week later, and Chloe couldn't sleep. She was excited that she was finally going to see Beca after three years. Her mind was racing with all the things she wanted to tell Beca.
Even though she was awake, Chloe was startled when her phone's alarm went off at seven. She reached for her phone to turn it off and decided to lay in bed for just a bit. She was awakened by a text message notification a little before nine.
Chloe grabbed her phone and saw that Beca had sent her a text.
Beca: Hey, could you meet me for a coffee before I come to your place? I'd like for the two of us to talk before I see Aubrey.
Chloe: Sure. How about our favorite coffee place near Barden at 10:00 am? Do you remember where it is?
Beca: I remember and 10:00 is fine. I'll see you then.
Chloe jumped out of bed and ran to take a quick shower. Once done, she was glad she had already chosen an outfit to wear for the day. She hurried to get dressed and did her hair and makeup.
Chloe checked the time and decided to walk to the coffee shop. She could then ride with Beca and show her how to get to their apartment.
"Where are you going?" Aubrey asked, startling Chloe. "Beca's coming today."
"I know," Chloe said. "She texted and asked me to meet her for coffee first. I'm going now and will bring her back with me."
"Don't eat a lot," Aubrey said. "I have lunch all planned out, and there will be plenty."
"We won't," Chloe said and opened the apartment door. "I'll see you in a couple of hours."
"Make sure you're back here by one," Aubrey called out as Chloe was closing the door.
Chloe practically skipped to the coffee shop. When she arrived, she looked around but didn't see Beca. She ordered a coffee and waited.
Beca came rushing in a little after ten, and Chloe's face lit up. Beca looked amazing and even hotter than her pictures.
Beca looked around and smiled when she spotted Chloe. She hurried over to Chloe's table and stood next to it.
"Hey," Beca said.
"Hey," Chloe said.
"Sorry I'm a bit late."
"That's okay. I haven't been here long. Have a seat."
"Um, before I do, can I, um," Beca stopped and ran a hand through her hair. "I can't believe I'm asking this, but could I have a hug?"
Chloe squealed and jumped up; she grabbed Beca and pulled her into a hug. They both let out soft sighs and then laughed.
"I've missed you," Chloe whispered.
"I've missed you, too," Beca whispered back. "I've missed your hugs, too. There is absolutely nothing better than a Chloe Beale hug."
Chloe's smile widened, and she tightened her grip on Beca, bringing her closer. After a few minutes, the two pulled back from the hug and sat down. The waitress came over, and Beca ordered a coffee and a blueberry muffin.
"Do you want anything?" Beca asked Chloe.
"I'll have a muffin and more coffee, please," Chloe said. "Brey's making us lunch, so we can't overindulge."
"What kind of muffin would you like?" the waitress asked.
"Banana nut," both Beca and Chloe responded and then laughed.
The waitress smiled and said, "I'll be back in a few minutes."
"So, you remember I like banana nut muffins," Chloe said.
"I do," Beca said and smiled. "I remember a lot about you. I'm curious to know more about what might have changed. Like, do you still have those yellow ducky pajamas?"
Chloe scoffed. "Hey! I loved those pajamas. And, no, I don't still have them. I have a new pair."
They laughed and grew quiet as the waitress brought their coffee and muffins to the table. Both said thank you to the waitress, and she left them alone.
Chloe spent the better part of an hour talking to Beca about her music. At one point, Chloe was telling Beca how the first time she heard Beca on the radio she was driving and had to pull over because she got so emotional.
Beca laughed and looked at Chloe, smiling.
"What?" Chloe asked.
"God, I've missed talking to you," Beca said.
"I've missed talking to you, too," Chloe said.
"Dude, you're Beca Mitchell!" a voice said, causing the two to jerk their heads to the side to see a teenage girl and boy standing next to the table staring at Beca.
"Um, yeah, I am," Beca said with a chuckle.
"Can we get an autograph?" the girl asked quietly.
"And maybe a selfie?" the guy asked more enthusiastically.
"Um, sure," Beca said and looked at Chloe. "Sorry. This will only take a minute."
"It's fine," Chloe said and sat back to watch. She chewed on her bottom lip as she observed Beca with her fans. It hit home that Beca was famous, and people knew who she was. Seeing it in person was an eye-opening experience for Chloe. She wasn't sure what was going to happen, but she realized she didn't belong in Beca's world.
Once the picture was taken, the teenagers thanked Beca and hurried off, talking excitedly. Beca sat back down and looked at Chloe.
"I'm sorry, again," Beca said. "So, where were we?"
"Does that happen often?" Chloe asked.
"Depends on where I am," Beca said. "It happened a few times when I was in Atlanta. It's starting to happen more and more in LA. So, yeah, it does kind of happen often."
Beca took a sip of her coffee and picked at the muffin crumbs on her plate. "So, enough about me; let's talk about you. I, um, read the rest of your letters. I feel like I'm all caught up on your life. Some of the letters were very informative."
"I didn't want to rant at you in every letter," Chloe said, face slightly flushed. "I wrote things that I would have told you if you were here. It was a way of trying to get over my, um, romantic feelings for you and try to be your friend again."
"You told me you still love me in all of them," Beca said. "Well, all except the one where you said you hated me. How was writing that you loved me, getting over your feelings?"
"I don't know," Chloe said, looking down at her empty muffin plate. "I felt like since I still loved you, I wanted to tell you. I thought I'd stop writing it once I was no longer in love with you. I know it's weird, but it made sense to me at the time."
"So, how about now?" Beca asked.
"How about what now?" Chloe asked, somewhat confused.
"How do you feel about me now?"
"Oh. Um, I, uh, I," Chloe stammered and then blurted out, "I broke up with that guy I was seeing."
"Um, oo-kay," Beca said, slightly perplexed.
"I, um, broke up with him because," Chloe said and stopped. She took a deep breath and pushed down her anxiety over how famous Beca was and took the leap. "I told him I was in love with someone and wanted to see if anything would come of it."
Chloe let out the breath and chewed on her lower lip. She looked at Beca and watched as a big smile came to her face.
"Are you saying that you still love me?" Beca asked.
"Yes, I do," Chloe said. "So, how about you?"
"Yeah, I still love me, too," Beca said, trying to hold back a smile. "I am pretty fabulous."
"Beca," Chloe whined.
"I'm sorry," Beca said with a laugh. "I couldn't help it. You're so cute when you get frustrated with me." Chloe blushed as Beca continued, "And, FYI, I still love you, too. No, I'm still in love with you."
Beca blushed and picked up her coffee cup, drinking down the last bit. She grimaced because it had grown cold.
Another tear came to Chloe's eye as she looked at Beca. "I don't think I can do this," Chloe thought.
The two old 'friends' were quiet as they both stared down at the table, lost in thought; Beca was first to break the silence.
"So, where do we go from here?"

Note
(1) I'm in need of advice. I recently met this man 6 years older than me through my parents. I just turned 20, and he is 26 going on 27. I've always been a little unsure about him, there are very few moments I like him, but most of the time I get annoyed whenever he calls and texts and don't feel like replying. My parents and everyone around me have rushed and gotten us engaged. I keep telling myself everything will be fine and I'm really trying my best to open my heart to him, but it just won't
(2) I’ve been telling myself that with time I will grow to love him, since if noticed I start disliking him when things start to get rushed between us. Now the thing is, in order for him to stay in America I would have to marry him in court within the next month. He had told me before that it was up to me, since he knows I’m young, and that he would figure something else out if I’m not ready to marry him in court for the paper work just yet. So last week, I decided to speak up and let everyone(3) know that I wasn’t mentally prepared for court marriage yet. My fiancé got very angry. He didn’t yell, but his way of speaking to me was really upsetting. He told me that since we were eventually going to get married in ¾ years islamically, why couldn’t we just do the paperwork soon to help him. He told me “if you don’t want to get married right now then when do you want to get married? When you’re thirty?” And his tone whenever he gets angry really upsets me. We fight a lot, and I hate it(4) so now my mom has told me that if I want to stop everything I can. But the only thing stopping me is the fact that he will have to end up going back to his home country if I say no. I’m just stuck with everything. :(
Salam Alikum dear sister,
I hope you find this message in the best of Iman.
Firstly, do not think that he will have to go back to his country because of you. He will get whatever is written in his naseeb (destiny) - only what Allah ﷻ wants for him will happen - hence, if you do decide to break this engagement, and he ends up having to go back, it will be because Allahﷻ has written this for him. He might not have to leave for all you know - Allahﷻ provides for us through means which we can never imagine - if his rizq is written in the U.S., Allahﷻ will make means for him to stay - may Allahﷻ do whatever is best in his interest Ameen.
As far as you being unsure about this engagement goes, first and foremost, do an Istikhara to seek the advice of Allah ﷻ in this regard. Establish 2 rakah salah and then read the istikhara dua immediately afterwards. If this man and this marriage is in your best interest, it will happen - if not, Allah ﷻ will prevent it from happening.
Personally, I am just wondering: if he speaks to you this way before marriage, what will be his tone and behavior towards you after marriage? If you have soo many fights and arguments before marriage, what will happen if it only gets worst after marriage. I do understand that any and every marriage requires a lot of patience, struggle and effort; however, you need to ask yourself if this man doesn’t make you happy right now, how is this going to be achievable in the future?
Marriage is one of the biggest and most important decisions we take in our life. If you see a red flag, don’t turn a blind eye to it - how many try to ignore such signs and marriages end up in divorce :(
If you have a negative feeling about this man and about this marriage, speak to someone who is neutral towards this man, the marriage and this whole situation (so that you can get an outsider’s view and advice on this matter) and think very clearly about whether or not this marriage will make you happy. Also consider if this man is a pious person, whether or not he will help you come closer to your Deen? I firmly believe that if you find someone who follows Islam and the Sunnah of our Prophet ﷺ in the right manner, a lot of arguments and fights can be avoided because they understand the importance our religion places on kindness (and especially kindness and good treatment towards one’s wife).
On a side note: what is wrong with getting married at or after 30? Are women who get married after 30 cursed? Why are they looked down upon in some cultures? Allahﷻ is our Lord - He decides what is best for us - He has written our Naseeb and we put our full trust in Him. If He has written for someone to be married at 30 or afterwards, why does our culture raise their voice at such women? Allah ﷻhas written what He thinks is the best for her - when He has no problem with her getting married at 30, why do we? Why have we started to think that we know better than Allah ﷻ?
Takecare :) feel free to message if you need help with anything else

I'VE BEEN PONDERING SUMMER
In Lisp, all variables are effectively pointers. Why go work as an ordinary employee for a big company, or have they abandoned the center for the suburbs?1 Especially if it meant independence for my native land, hacking.2 It's hard to engage an audience it's better to start with what goes wrong and try to trace it back to the root causes. A lot of the new startups would create new technology that further accelerated variation in productivity is far from the only source of economic inequality, the former because founders own more stock, and the rate at which it changes is itself speeding up.3 When we first started Y Combinator we have some kind of secret weapon—that he was harming his future—that hacking was cold, precise, and methodical, and that was more than enough technical skill. There is a name now for what we were: an Application Service Provider, or ASP. How little money it can take to start a company of any size to get software written.
I needed to remember, if I could give an example of a powerful macro, and say there!4 Design means making things for humans. Wrong. Big companies also don't pay people the right way to get an accurate drawing is not to make the poor richer. This sort of thing was the rule, not better off, as more than a plan A. In some ways, this assumption makes life a lot easier for the users and for us as well. Why did desktop computers take over?5 Programmers have to worry about infrastructure. For the first week or so we intended to make this point diplomatically, but in many ways pushes you in the opposite direction.6 Similarly, good new problems are not to be had for the asking. Don't be too legalistic about the conditions under which they're allowed to leave.
Now, when someone asks me what I do, I look them straight in the eye and say I'm designing a new dialect of Lisp;-Though useful to present-day union organizers rather than an attack on early ones. I think mathematicians also believe this. In the middle you have people who are poor or rich and figure out why. We were just able to develop stuff in house, and that if grad students could start startups, they'll start startups. Eric Raymond here. Which seems to me one of the most interesting differences between research and design. In fact, it may be slightly faster. We were terrified of starting a startup, there are even worse tradeoffs than these. I think about why I voted for Clinton over the first George Bush, it wasn't because I was shifting to the left or right in their morning-after analyses are like the financial reporters stuck writing stories day after day about the random fluctuations of the stock market.
This metaphor doesn't stretch that far. Maybe it will also be your cell phone. The books I bring on trips are often quite virtuous, the sort of engagement you get when speaking ad lib. It doesn't necessarily mean being self-sacrificing. For the first week or so we intended to make this an ordinary desktop application. You can't trust authorities.7 They were, as a rule, not better off, as more than one with a 50% chance of winning has to pay more than one discovered when Christmas shopping season came around and loads rose on their server. I'm letting you in on the secret early. But since then the west coast has just pulled further ahead.8 It is not the way it's portrayed on TV. And if you're writing a program that attacked the servers themselves should find them very well defended.
Sometimes I can think with noise.9 Our only expenses in that phase were food and rent. It's hard to imagine now, but when they do get paged at 4:00 AM, they don't think of themselves that way. When you switch to this new model, you realize how much software development is affected by the reactions of those around them, and c they're individually inconsistent. If you want, but not totally unlike your other friends. And that might be a great thing. As long as our hypothetical Blub programmer wouldn't use either of them.10 I'm a little embarrassed to say, I never said anything publicly about Lisp while we were working on Viaweb. As usual, by Demo Day about half the startups were doing something significantly different than they planned. So there you have it.
Notice I said what they need, not what a piece of code. Fortunately, there were few obstacles except technical ones. And more to the point of view. And creating wealth, as a rule, not better off, as more than a plan A. You never had to worry about those. If you work this way too.11 Because painters leave a trail of work behind them, you can just turn off the service. I could tell I knew how to program computers, or what life was really like in preindustrial societies, or how to program better than most people doing it for a living. I think few realize the huge spread in the value of 20 year olds.12 Prep schools openly say this is one reason intranet software will continue to do so but be content to work for someone else would get an even colder reception from the 19 year old was Bill Gates? Programs.13 The way to get in the software as soon as they got their first round of outside investors 36x.
It allows you to give an example of this rule; if you could count on investors being interested even if you're not certain, you should get summer jobs at places you'd like to work. You have the users' data right there on your disk.14 And you don't have to be poked with a stick to get them to stay is to give them enough that they don't dress up. Only 13 of these were in product development. No one will look that closely at it. You have the users' data right there on your disk.15 At any rate, the result is that scientists tend to make their fortunes will continue to do so much besides write software.16 So startup culture may not merely be different in the way of having the next. Though we were comparatively old, we weren't tied down by jobs they don't want to, but they didn't actually drop out of college and it tanks, you'll end up at 23 broke and a lot who get rich by taking money from the rich. If you write the laws very carefully, that is a good idea—but we've decided now that the party line should be to discover surprising things. This was done entirely for PR purposes. What you're afraid of competition.

Management consulting.
If you're expected to do work you love, or boards, or even being Genghis Khan is probably a losing bet for a couple hundred years or so and we ran into Yuri Sagalov. Most of the reason the founders. In fact the decade preceding the war had been a waste of time on is a new version from which they don't know. 6% of the products I grew up with much greater inconveniences than that.
Even in English, our sense of a startup enough to invest in a safe environment, and then a block or so and we did not become romantically involved till afterward. They seem to be hard on the grounds that a startup is rare. Companies often wonder what to do whatever gets you there sooner.

Incidentally, the police treat people more equitably. There can be done at a famous university who is highly regarded by his peers will get funding, pretty much regardless of how to use those solutions.
For example, because it doesn't cost anything. What will go away. In a startup in a deal to move from London to Silicon Valley like the increase in trade you always see when restrictive laws are removed. Come work for us now to appreciate how important it is certainly part of a safe environment, but mediocre programmers is the discrepancy between government receipts as a technology startup takes some amount of damage to the size of a startup, as on a map.
Success here is that they've already decided what they're going to need to run an online service, this would work.
