Facebook có “On this day”, thứ tính năng nhắc nhớ những kỷ niệm. Hôm nay, nó nhắc ngày này 11 năm trước, tôi share bài give away của VnReview để mong nhận được cái điện thoại Huawei Ascend P6.

Hồi đó, sinh viên không có tiền, ngó qua bên này thấy bạn dùng iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS, nhìn sang bên kia thấy bạn quẹt Samsung, LG…, hay ít nhất cũng là Meizu… mà ước ao một ngày được dùng điện thoại ít nút, được check-in trên Facebook, bởi lúc ấy máy tính không có tính năng Location như điện thoại.

Hồi đó, không biết bao nhiêu lần tôi share những bài-give-away-kiểu-vậy, chỉ để mơ mộng một lần để bạn bè thấy thằng Toàn đang check-in ở phương trời nào đó.

Hồi đó, cho đến giờ, tôi chưa lần nào được điện thoại. Tôi vốn không có duyên với những món quà trên trời rơi xuống.

Từ đó đến giờ, tôi sống 11 năm, với cái đầu mơ mộng viễn vông, và ví tiền xẹp lép bẩm sinh. Tuy so với hồi sinh viên chỉ dám ăn rau xào với đậu phụ lướt ván, giờ có thể ngồi quán hay hay, ăn thêm đĩa thịt; cũng có thể mua được cái điện thoại có tính nhận diện cao, để thực hiện công tác check-in hay làm gi gỉ gì gi những thứ khác ở Facebook; chỉ có điều niềm hân hoan cũng như logo quả táo sau điện thoại tôi dùng: nó bị khuyết đi một phần.

Có lẽ, với tôi, niềm vui của việc mong chờ, mơ mộng hấp dẫn hơn khi đạt được kết quả. Mấy hôm nay, tôi sắp xếp lại phòng khách, muốn mua cái PlayStation. Việc mua một món đồ chơi bây giờ đơn giản hơn nhiều rồi. Nhưng sao tôi vẫn thích hàng ngày đọc review, xem Youtube về nó hơn là click vào nút order. Có lẽ, với t��i, mong chờ, mơ mộng có nỗi hân hoan riêng của nó.

Tôi sống 11 năm, từ đó đến nay, tiền lúc nào cũng ở bên ngoài túi. Nhưng tôi có nghe ai đó nói, nếu xem niềm vui, niềm hạnh phúc là tài sản của đời người thì cái thời ít tiền bạc trong túi lại là thời con người giàu có hơn cả.

Ummm cobs forced Bruce to look after 3g and 3gs and make sure they didn’t get into shenanigans

He changed his name from 2g to Bruce as a way to like. Not associate himself with meeple if that makes sense. Like cobs did not treat him well at all, (fun fact in the original iPhone presentation Steve Jobs already talks about plans for 3g phones) so I can see like in the ii universe that happening as well and Bruce feeling upset and betrayed that cobs would just replace him just like that. Bruce also has a little bit of disdain for 3g and 3gs because of this but over time he learns to like his siblings and ends up sacrificing himself for 3gs in the shimmer invasions.

Yeah the shimmer invasions ummmm I have. A whole thing about how Bruce died in those.

Basically Bruce saw the shimmers coming first and saw them going for 3gs while he was distracted and basically pushed him out of the way and because of it got stabbed and died but it ended up saving 3gs… (he was dating starfruit at this time and starfruit never knew how Bruce died or that he died)

OH YEAH ummmm so since 3g and Bruce died in the shimmer invasions and 3gs was locked away nobody was able to tell starfruit that Bruce died so starfruit just thought he disappeared and he got really upset. This ended up being the reason starfruit had left spoiled lemon in “mazed and confused” because he was grieving the disappearance / death of Bruce

Anyway later on Bruce and 3gs both get rebuilt by 3gs and Bruce goes to live with starfruit and starts dating him again and then also dates mangosteen

Bruce is an alcoholic or was before the shimmer invasions, it was a very unhealthy coping mechanism for everything that he was going through at the time. After he was rebuilt by 3gs he did stop drinking tho

Mr. Harrigan’s Phone on Netflix

Just watched it today, and i’m in love with every part of it. Not to be a spoiler bitch but, every damn scene was ah-mazing!! I used to think that this gonna be a movie where i’m gonna hit paused every 30minutes or less, gonna be boring and blah blah blah. But, nope. Imma all ears and my eyes was locked into the screen for one hour and forty six minutes in the afternoon. Without snacks, or drinks.

I’m in love with their relationships. Yes, he liked the smell of the books, but i think he kinda fell in love with the old man too. Somehow, people in pain attracted their kinds too isn’t it?

Loves all of the angle, and the choice of Mr Harrigan’s chair. Love the huge paintings side by side on the hall. Love the 2G’s iPhone. Love how the movie tells about the school cafeteria’ s table with bunch of apple users kid and regular ones (it sucks, but it kinda hit us rite?). In love with their relationship of no deaths tear them apart. Love all the narrative in this movie. Loving all the soundtracks. Especially their ringtones.

Ein bisschen Warnung ...

Nachdem der bundesweite Warntag vor gut zwei Jahren nicht so recht funktioniert hat, gab’s heute einen zweiten Versuch. Mit einem, wie es so schön heißt Warnmix sollte getestet werden, wie die Bevölkerung in Deutschland bei Katastrophen (und inzwischen, angesichts der Erfahrungen in der Ukraine; vielleicht sogar in einem Kriegsfall) rechtzeitig gewarnt werden kann. Um dann die nötigen Vorkehrungen zu treffen, und sei es nur, die Fenster zu schließen, damit der Rauch vom Brand im Chemiewerk nicht in die Wohnung zieht.

Der Warnmix, das ist in Deutschland so eine Sache. Denn das einfachste System, die lauten Sirenen, gibt es kaum noch – oder auch: noch nicht wieder (in Berlin zum Beispiel sollen neue Sirenen installiert werden, die waren aber zum heutigen Testlauf leider noch nicht angeschlossen). Deshalb besteht das Warnsystem aus Rundfunk- und Fernsehdurchsagen, Apps auf dem Smartphone, in einzelnen Orten Lautsprecherdurchsagen von Polizei und Feuerwehr, Hinweisen auf öffentlichen Anzeigetafeln und Sirenen wo noch vorhanden. Neu diesmal: Cell Broadcast, ein System, mit dem flächendeckend Mobiltelefone eine Alarmmeldung erhalten – weltweit längst Standard, in Deutschland bislang nicht eingeführt.

Wie schlug sich denn nun der Warnmix an diesem bundesweiten zweiten Warntag?

Das neue Cell Broadcast, wenn es funktionierte, funktionierte dann auch ganz eindrucksvoll, wie Markus hier im Video festgehalten hat. Aber es funktionierte eben nicht immer (mehr dazu unten). Die Erfahrungen der Techniktagebuch-Redaktion:

Im Studio des TV-Senders im Berliner Norden, wo ich zur Zeit der bundesweiten Test-Alarmierung um 11:00 Uhr sitze, wird es laut: Praktisch alle Smartphones im Raum fangen an zu brummen oder zu läuten, je nachdem, was das einzelne Telefon so hergibt. Da funktioniert Cell Broadcast offensichtlich, auf deutsch und englisch. Auf meinem Smartphone sehe ich außerdem einen Hinweis der Warn-App NINA. Und zudem die Push-Nachricht des Deutschlandfunks, im Stil einer Eilmeldung:

Was aber stumm bleibt, ist mein nicht so smartes Zweit-Mobiltelefon: ein Dummphone, mit dem man nur telefonieren und SMS empfangen kann. In anderen Ländern kann so ein Gerät auch Cell Broadcast empfangen, ganze Regionen in Asien verlassen sich darauf. Ob in Deutschland so ein Telefon im 2G-Netz in den Warnmix eingebunden ist, bleibt also erstmal unklar.

Sirenen habe ich natürlich nicht gehört, ich war ja in Berlin. Und weil ich nicht draußen war, habe ich leider auch nicht gesehen, ob auf den elektronischen Anzeigetafeln an den Bushaltestellen der Alarm angezeigt wurde. Der übrigens, so berichtete der Berliner Tagesspiegel, von den Mitarbeitern der Berliner Verkehrsgesellschaft (BVG) von Hand in das Anzeigesystem eingegeben werden musste.

Oliver Laumann:

Am Warntag war ich von 10 bis 12 Uhr in einer Videokonferenz mit ca. 100 anderen Personen. Der erste Vortragende zeigte gleich am Anfang eine Slide mit einer Warnung, dass ja heute der Warntag ist, und dass um 11 Uhr möglicherweise einige Handys laute Geräusche machen werden.

Als dann um 11 Uhr der Alarm losging, wurde es trotzdem kurz chaotisch. Im Videokonferenz-Client war zu sehen, dass sich einige Moderatoren der Konferenz ihr Headset runterrissen und verwirrt in ihrem Büro umherschauten. Der aktuelle Sprecher war durch sein eigenes Handy vollkommen abgelenkt, ebenso wie ich selber, zumal ich zwar erwartete, dass mein iPhone ein lautes Geräusch machen würde, aber dann doch nicht so laut.

Ausgerechnet zu dem Zeitpunkt, als die Cell-Broadcast-Warnung kam, wurde bizarrerweise in meinem Büroflur auch noch die neu eingerichtete Sprachalarmanlage getestet, eine Lautsprecheranlage, die für Warndurchsagen bei Amokläufen, Feuer und dergleich genutzt werden soll.  Zu dem Lärm der Handys kamen somit noch schrille Abfolgen von Warntönen aus den Lautsprechern unter der Decke von Büro und Flur.

Ich habe die Warnungen vor dem Warntag vergessen und stehe auf meine Mutter wartend auf einem Supermarktparkplatz, als mein Handy anfängt, sehr laute krächzende Geräusche zu machen. Weil ich das Geräusch so schnell wie möglich loswerden will, drücke ich auf OK und merke erst danach, dass damit die Warnmeldung verschwindet und nicht wieder hervorzuholen ist. Wenn es jetzt wirklich um was Ernstes ginge, wüsste ich nicht, was. Außerdem habe ich keinen Screenshot fürs Techniktagebuch. Das Handy war – wie immer – auf “Do not disturb” gestellt und ich freue mich, dass die Warnung doch ein Schlupfloch gefunden hat. Sirenen höre ich keine, obwohl ich den Standort der örtlichen Sirene von meinem Supermarktparkplatz aus fast sehen kann und die Lokalzeitung die Inbetriebnahme verschiedener Sirenen, darunter auch dieser, angekündigt hat.

Am Warntag sitze ich in einer Onlineveranstaltung mit zwölf Personen, die über ganz Deutschland verteilt sind. Der Dozent fragt morgens rhetorisch, ob denn alle wüssten, was heute für ein Tag sein. Mein Android-Mobiltelefon ist auf lautlos gestellt, gibt aber Punkt 11 Uhr Geräusche von sich, die ich noch nie gehört habe, und das sehr laut. In der Videokonferenz zuckt man kollektiv zusammen und es dauert ein paar Sekunden, bis alle ihre Telefone beruhigt haben. Dann entspinnt sich eine kurze Diskussion, ob Sirenengeräusche gehört werden oder nicht (überwiegend nicht) und wie und wann die Sirenen am Wohnort routinemäßig getestet werden.

Im Stadtteil Dornbusch in Frankfurt am Main höre ich auch keine Sirene, obwohl nur 300 Meter Luftlinie entfernt eine große Feuerwache ist.

Mein Android-Tablet betrachte ich erst abends. Ob es Geräusche gemacht hat, weiß ich nicht, aber es zeigt noch die Warnmeldung an.

In meinem Haushalt gibt es noch zwei Iphones (6 und 11) und ein Ipad; auf diesen Geräten findet der Warntag nicht statt, weder optisch noch akustisch.

Im entscheidenden Moment hocke ich mit einem kranken Kind zuhause. Selbiges hat just im richtigen Moment mein iPhone stibitzt und unter seinem Kopfkissen versteckt. Von dort ertönt der ungewohnte, nervige Warnton und ich grummele nur "was ist denn das jetzt schon wieder?!"

Der Vibrationsalarm wird auch ausgelöst, Sirenen höre ich in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg erwartungsgemäß nicht, und eine Entwarnung bekomme ich auch nicht.

Die Warn-Apps Nina und Katwarn hatte mein iPhone offenbar wegen längerer Nichtnutzung entladen und in diesem Zustand können sie wohl nicht warnen.

The killer app for 5G gets unveiled with iPhone 16. By Joe Madden, principal analyst at Mobile Experts. It’s AI, specifically AI’s need for big, fast uploads. Interestingly, Joe says that the applications for 2G, 3G and 4G were known when the networks were deployed — allowing wired applications to go wireless — but 5G uses are still emerging.

“Peak shaving” could help data centers solve the AI power problem — for now. Diana Goovaerts reports. Data center power consumption comes in spurts, putting a strain on power grids. But “… most data centers have plenty of battery and generator power available on standby as backup power in case the electrical grid goes down. With peak shaving, data centers can just put those existing assets to more active use.” (I achieved peak shaving this morning — new blade.)

The iPhone 16 may cause a surge in demand — a “supercycle.” “’Given the strong consumer interest in AI capabilities, we anticipate a supercycle of upgrades when Apple launches their new devices that will support an embedded Apple Intelligence expected later this year,’ said Rebekah Griffiths, vice president of Product Management and Strategy at Assurant, which collects phone trade-ins and prepares them for resale.’” Monica Alleven reports. The introductory episode of the new series focuses on startup Vaire Computing with the ambition of becoming the next Nvidia using technology called “reversible computing” that reduces processor heat generation to virtually zero. CEO Rodolfo Rosini says existing processors are basically heaters that produce compute as a by-product.
