Justbins really was voted as best online news by Prairie Dog Magazine back in 2023. CBS Saskatchewan and CTV Regina were ranked 2nd and 3rd. A lot of these news stories are shared via memes…

The reason for the murder queen nickname is because Regina was once a long-time holder of the murder capital of Canada title for several years.

She doesn’t get upset at the nickname because she knows it’s true, and she figures if she calls him Stabmonton or Deadmonton, he has all the rights to call her Murder Queen in return.

Drew this based off of something that happened earlier today, while I was on my commute to work.

Apparently there were people handing out free trees today downtown. They were really pushing people to take a tree.

I had to explain to some random guy who offered me a free tree that I couldn’t take it, because I don’t need to get strange looks walking into my workplace with a tree, because some students planted a tree in one of the toilets last year.

Whilst we're all complaining about hatred against self-inserts (which is usually just misogyny - I see WAY more women get shit for it than men) and the expectation everyone is self-inserting, I have my grievance to nail to the church door:

If I write a character who's my ethnicity, I must be self-inserting. If a white person does it, that's a ludicrous jump to make. A white writer doesn't need a reason to write a white character. The only reason I could ever write a Cherokee character is because I want to see myself in a story. Not my people, not people like me - myself. It is impossible that I might write someone of my ethnicity and not have them be me. Furthermore, this is extended to all characters who are First Nations/Native American. They're all me, regardless of whether or not they're from the same country as me, are my gender, or are 40 years older than me or not.

If a white man in the US who's in his 20's writes a 60-something white lady from Canada, no one calls that his self-insert. I wrote a First Nations Canadian character when I was 15 who was 45 and all the commenters as well as my English teacher assumed she must be me. I must have seen myself in her, which would have been, frankly, a level of emotional maturity not possible in my 15 year old, action movie addled brain.

No, actually, I wasn't that progressive that I looked at a 45 year old retired assassin pulled out of retirement for one last job who longed to reconcile with her daughter and went, "I, a cis teenage dude, see myself in her!" I was actually just a kid writing what I thought was cool. I thought "looks normal, is badass" was cool. I thought "wants to not be a shitty parent" was cool. That was it. But while my classmates could write about white people without being interrogated for it, I got sent to the counselor to talk about my clearly strained relationship with my parents. (This was news to my parents, who were pretty sure we were fine.)

I see this with every black person I find in fandom, too. Not only their OCs self-insertion if they're the same race, they're also inserting themselves in how they write existing black characters. If they deny it, that's proof they're doing it. Just like with Natives. Doesn't matter if they're writing a Black Panther character who's from a different continent than them, they're projecting. If a white person in the US writes a white European, however, that of course is not inherently projecting. There's no "proof". There is, allegedly, "proof" with BIPOC in fandom, which is, "why else would you write a minority into the story?"

Because I'm creative, Karen. I can write anyone and anything into my stories. Maybe you can't, but your limitations are not universal.

oh absolutely i can (i will take any excuse to talk about my ocs)

project nova is a slightly dystopian fiction story/comic set in Nova, a city somewhere near what was once the U.S.-Canada border. due to uprisings and international turmoil (along with increasingly harsh climate change disasters) that destroyed the previous countries where it stands, Nova is broken into four different classes (kind of like, big labor unions) that specialize in different areas needed for a city to thrive. each class has its own rules and regulations for their members, some are stricter than others, etc. these are:

Technics: industrial, mechanical, infrastructure, urban planning

Astutes: medical, scientific research, education

Executives: company administration, police enforcement, distribution and manufacturing operations

Laymen: other roles for either private or public sector, can be baristas, office workers, farmers, etc.

there are 6 main-ish characters:

August Anderson - Layman barista/skilled thief taking jobs from the underground illicit market

Maple Fernsby - Technic who owns a small mechanic shop in uptown Nova

Beau Jones - recent graduate from the Astute academy focusing on virology research for therapeutics

Amelie Hargraves - an apprentice Exec operative with a strange ability to influence memories and manipulate deceased souls

Rowan Sawkins - estranged youngest son of the affluent Sawkins Exec family, who's bad falling-out led him to join the Astutes as a physician

Rosie - the western sector resistance leader unaffiliated with any class and wants to get out of the city by any means necessary, and take as many people as possible with her

the main story follows August, who's close friends with Beau and Maple living in the outskirts of the inner city. chance lands him to meet Rowan, a physician that works with Beau and who ends up saving August's life after a job gone wrong. on the other side of the city, Amelie is taken in by the Execs after finding out she has an almost supernatural ability to manipulate memories, which they see as an incredible asset. after a combined agreement between the Execs and the Astutes leads to Rowan's manipulation into a pawn for a mysterious plan called Project Nova, the 6 chars' lives now get tangled together as they all pursue conflicting goals

at least, that's the basic rundown !! most everything i draw or post about takes place before or slightly after this exposition dump, who knows if ill ever get around to either writing and/or drawing this story in the first place. mostly they're just my ocs that i will draw situations for, small skits, stuff like that. none of this is set in stone it changes all of the time and ill probably retcon half of it later but for now this is what i have

Punch Out x Pokemon crossover headcannons!

Gift for my bestie @vampirtulpe , lover of both Punch Out and Pokemon. In this crossover AU, all the boxers are actually trainers who all go to the same stadium to battle, train, and raise pokemon. Each trainer fights with 4 pokemon, unless your Mr. Sandman (aka the champion in this AU)

Little Mac 🇺🇲🥊🟢

- Traveling trainer (ash ketchum wannabe) from Unova

- Strict, but not as strict as Mr. Sandman when training his pokemon

- Team consists of Hitmonchan, Raichu, Cinderace, and a Riolu he hatched thnx to Doc. The ultimate main character team

- Doc travels with him and basically acts like Brock

Glass Joe 🇫🇷 🥐

- Kalos (aka best region!!! No I don't take criticism :33) inhabitant

- Very soft when it comes to training pokemon... dude will spoil his pokemon rotten and wonder why they aren't powerhouses

- Team consists of Dachsbun, Slurpuff, Glaceon, Magikarp, and a baby Goomy he never let's fight.

- Very close to the Dachsbun... his uncle, Gabby Jay owned it as a Fidough, and Joe adopted it when Gabby died (he didn't die to Nick in this AU, but rather of a heart attack-)

- Squimish about seeing cute pokemon fight; would much rather be a pokemon performer

Von Kaiser 🇩🇪🔩

- Owns his own pokemon gym that specializes in steel types. It's only accessible to younger trainers

- Used to be a good trainer in his youth, but slowly got outclassed

- Originated in uhhhh Sinnoh (game freak German region when???)

- Team consists of Klinklang, Ambipom, Chingling, and Probopass.

- Caught Chingling very recently, mistakenly thinking it was a steel type. He keeps it for emotional support

Disco Kid 🇺🇲 🕺

- Travelling trainer from Unova, but he lacks the main character energy

- Invented "pokecise," a trainer-pokemon type of exercise that's supposed to strengthen a bond... or whatever lol.

- Sometimes does double battles with Heike Kagero, and overall prefers double battles.

- Speed specialist

- Team consists of all four Oricorio forms... and a Mime Jr. he doesn't battle with

- He uses the Mime Jr. to use Teeter Dance on random people for shits and giggles.

King Hippo 🏝 🦛

- Rumored to be from Alola

- May or may not he a mutated pokemon... if you throw a poke ball at him, he'll go inside of it.

- Team consists of Alolan Exeguttor, Ludicolo, Slowking, and of course, Hippowdon.

- Doesn't grunt or growl in this AU. Rather, he says the word "Hippo" over and over again.

Piston Hondo 🇯🇵🥊

- Classic Kanto boy

- He IS that guy from the Saffron dojo who gifts you either a Hitmonchan or a Hitmonlee

- Is constantly pushing the other trainers (boxers), especially Joe, to train harder every single day.

- His team consists of Ninetails, Farfetch'd, Curly Tatsugiri, and Scizor

- Traded Joe the eevee that would evolve into his Glaceon for an unhappy scyther Joe couldn't train

Bear Hugger 🇨🇦 🐻

- Uhhh Johto native (NO CANADA REGION GRRR)

- Adores pokemon, especially baby pokemon. He's got a knack for breeding

- Spends all day training in the woods and on routes

- Scares unsuspecting travelling trainers at night

- Team consists of Greedant, Stantler, Obamba snow :], and Ursaring

- Had a pachirisu at some point, but it got poached and died by an evil pokemon team

- Bonus: if Lomasi (me OC) was in this AU, her team would consist of Staraptor, Sunflora, Beautifly, and Xatu.

Great Tiger 🇮🇳 🐅

- No India region sooooo idk maybe Alola trainer

- Wants to be a psychic trainer very badly

- Has yet to be indoctrinated into the psychic trainer mental circle

- Hates medicham with a burning passion (I'm projecting ehehe-)

- Team consists of Espeon, Persian, Delcatty, and Incineroar

- Rivalry with Hondo

- Yeah he loves cat pokemon... sadly that takes priority over catching psychic pokemon

- Wants to be a dancing, agile-type trainer like Disco Kid, and ended up being better than him

- Caught a Greavard during his emo phase

- Rumored to have been a Team Yell member

- Has fought pokemon with his bare hands before, and he'll do it again

- From Northern Galar

- No real ambition, just likes terrorizing people with his pokemon

- Team consists of Zoroark, Obstagoon, Scrafty, Skuntank, and a family Wooloo he inherited and doesn't let fight

- That Wooloo is just as fearsome as the rest of his team

- (NO RUSSIA REGION REEE) He's from Sinnoh, specifically snowpoint

- Has beaten the snowpoint gym leader multiple times, but he was gatekept from becoming an ice gym leader because of his intimidating height drinking issues

- Was almost bribed into d0ping his pokemon... thankfully in this AU, he doesn't do that.

- Team consists of Polteageist, Walrein, Spinda, and Beartic

- He captured the Spinda and the Sinistea when he was drunk one time

- Definitely likes pokemon more than people

- He owns a LOT more water pokemon than what I listed lol

- Champion of the WVBA league

- Undeafeated

- Is also the manager of said league... he bosses over the other trainers and what they do

- Is the paul-trainer (Pokemon are objects to make me win) type

- As a champion, he's allowed to have 6 pokemon

- Only WVBA trainer that does hyper training

- Team consists of Machamp, Musharna, Sandaconda, Dusknoir, Pyroar, and Annihilape.

- First pokemon he got was Machop... that's the pokemon he's closest too.

Bonus! Here's Dragon Chan (bc I said so) 🇨🇳🐉

- Traveling dragon master

- Not a permanent member of the WVBA trainers, but he visits often

- Very hyper active, tall dude... his pokemon share his hyper active-ness

- Adores challenging random people to battles

- His goal is to become a professional dragon pokemon tamer

- Team consists of Hydrapple, Hitmonlee, Blaziken, and a timid Dragonair

- Also carries around an egg containing a Bagon

Meet Haze! She's an oc I came up with which revolves around her as a semi-antagonist for a story? Idk. Anyways, the premise is that she is from a distant magical world and goes to earth to give epic protag abilities. Only problem? She isn't capable of physically manifesting herself onto Earth. So she augments herself using the mind of the person she gave abilities to, this also comes with the side effect of Haze having access to their minds. Effectively making whoever she gave abilities to her host. With full access to the persons memories and thoughts, her morality is put into question. And if she chooses to use this access to their mind to help the person, such as helping them move past their own trauma and act as an emotional therapist, or use her access to the persons minds to emotionally manipulate them is completely up to her. Which is why I don't actually know myself what direction I want to take the character in. It could either be really wholesome or a disturbing psychological horror about someones abusive relationship with a fantastical creautre. I'm really proud of the idea, personally and I've been having a ton of fun with it Even if she's not able to actually go to earth, merely projecting herself using the human mind. If her magic is able to make her physically interact with objects is also something I'm considering, since her being able to say, pick up objects, or hit people would be interesting. But her being like a ghost who can't actually touch anything would add some fun limitations to her character. Oh, and she's able to endlessly extend her noodle-like body, which can even be used to take on different forms. This is just because, since she's someone with access to a persons mind, she should have a very creative design. I think there'd be a lot of really fun and interesting ways to draw her. I imagine the protag/host of Haze would be a kid, very inspired by the magical girl genre with the main difference being that instead of a team of heroes, there's only one. And I want her isolation to play a factor into the story I have in mind Very much just a concept so I'm really curious on if you guys think this idea is cool! I've been super proud of it myself lol (oh, and the jelly filled timbits is a reference to the infamous "jelly filled donuts" from the Pokemon anime localization--just adjusted for the Canada setting lol)

just a note that i am hesitant to draw others' ocs for a few reasons. I don't want to detract too much focus from the main characters and I try to stick with a limited amount of close friend's ocs, partially for continuity reasons and partially because sometimes people drop off the face of the planet or have falling outs or what have you. I'm also just very particular about ocs and I want to make sure the interpretations gel before I 'adopt' them as it were. Thanks for offering, still!

Here is what the Legion look like in @blot-squisher and I’s collaboration fic Whispers of Insanity, an asylum AU where we explore the Surviving the Game characters along with some additional OCs in a none Entity setting. It’s none canon compliant and very self indulgent

The Legion, after burying the body and running away, spent the next few years on the run and terrorizing different towns and cities, moving through Canada before traveling down into the US where they finally got caught due to being too cocky

Due to them having committed the crimes while they were 18 and older, they were all tried as adults and sentenced to Crotus Prenn, a rehabilitation center for troubled members of society owned by the CEO Albert Wesker

Because they spent so long on the run together, their bonds had been strengthened to the point of utter loyalty and devotion to each other. The Legion is more then just the name of their friend group, it is now their full identities as they prefer to be referred to as one collective unit rather then individual names

I love your work and enjoy your theories, so I thought I'd pop up and ask a question, my question being; why do people like yuu so much? They don't really have a point in the story and stuff-this kinda sounds like I hate yuu but I don't I'm just curious on why they're liked in the EN Fandom so I apologize if I used the wrong choice of words or anything, also why is yuu called 'the therapist'?

Rather than saying “the EN fandom likes Yuu”, I think it’s more accurate to say “the EN fandom likes the idea of Yuu”. Yuu is not a character in of themselves, but is an easy proxy for anyone and everyone to self-insert (be it the player themselves or an OC of theirs) because they are so loosely defined. This makes it very easy to “project” (ie insert whatever traits you want) onto a blank slate on an individual level and to be more personally invested in the events related to Yuu.

In an ironic way, Yuu not having a major impact on the story encourages fans to create their own alternate tellings and scenarios (typically substituting their own interpretation of Yuu or an OC into their role) to change things. This, in turn, heightens the attachment to Yuu because of the time and effort being devoted to this insertion. Over time, the feelings can grow stronger with each repetition, and it forms a sort of bond and all the affection that may come with it.

This is in part why the self-insert and OC culture of TWST is so strong; Yuu is practically designed to be projected onto. Even the name may be a reference to this—Yuu as in, “you”. They’re meant to be “you”, so many people become attached yo Yuu because that is essentially a representation of “themselves” in the world of TWST (especially when you consider that one’s imagination amplifies this relationship).

Brief aside for a second, I want to emphasize that this is a phenomenon that is specific to the EN fandom. The JP side also has Yuusonas and OCs, but they are often not as fleshed-out as the ones you’ll see from the EN fandom. Most of the time, the Yuusonas/OCs from JP are more generalized (less individualized looks, far less details in backstories, etc.) so that any onlooker can still insert as the Yuu. Meanwhile, the Yuusonas and OCs from the EN side tend to go into a LOT of detail about their creations. I believe this reflects a fundamental cultural difference between JP and EN (more specifically America/Canada): collectivism vs individualism, conforming to a group vs standing out from the crowd. (I discuss other differences I’ve observed between JP and EN in this post.)

The “Yuu is NRC’s therapist” line is a joke from the earliest days in the fandom; this was way before most of the main story had come out and no one knew how little of a role Yuu would actually play in the overall narrative and changing the characters’ lives, nor the fact that the OB boys would get treatment from an actual therapist (a detail revealed in book 6, I believe). The therapist role was likely derived mainly from something Crowley says in the prologue about how Yuu can be the one that teaches the boys how to get along with one another. However, the more main story content released, the more it became apparent that what Crowley said was just flat-out untrue. (I go into more detail about that in this post.) Nowadays, I think that the term is used more ironically.

Meet Destiny Cresentas! Catch phrase: "If the wig fits, wear it!" (Please don't ask what was going through my thought process but it was something)

I haven't really done anything with her (safe for now...) But I always imagined her to be like the "shyest girl in town" and has a weirdly okay friendship with mischa???? Like you will NEVER see them talking in public but they are able to keep up with each other's personal life

Destiny really likes drawing and one time was caught by Mischa as she was drawing on herself (using a marker she found under a desk) and Mischa for some reason REALLY liked it and asked her to give him a tattoo, destiny thought he was joking untill she realized he WASNT joking, sooo she made a huuuggeeee heart tattoo that said "M x T" standing for Mischa x Talia lol and ever since then they have been doing pretty good

Something in common they have is that they are both not originally from Canada! Destiny is actually Indonesian, her parents changed her name so they could fit in more and thought destiny was a beautiful name, she's also very fluent in English and even more better at it than Indonesian (totally not projecting)

Aside from her friendship with Mischa shes quite shy and quiet so she has barely any friends, even though she tries it seems like she will never build any sort of communication skills, some writings put in her yearbook was:

"Who?"

"I don't know who you are but you seem nice!"

"Uhmm I don't know what to say I barely knew you hehe"

She's not in the choir and will NEVER be in the choir as she has absolutely no talent in singing and doesn't wish to try at all, she also sees all of the choir members to be a tad bit... Weird.. (Except Mischa like yeah he is..somethinh but she excuses him)

She sometimes watches the rehearsals for fun and hypes them up! Though she is kind of scared of ocean.... And by scared I mean "not necessarily avoiding her but also doesn't try correcting her sometimes because 1. Social anxiety 2. She is a terrifying perfectionist and Destiny has bad experiences with them"

Anywaysss I think that's all I have for her :3

Oh and also she has bad vision so she wears (colored) contacts, her natural eye color is brown

((I was reminded of my Lilo and Stitch oc, Lavinia Walker. She's a recent move from Canada and is an art teacher at the local elementary. She's a shy, quiet type who doesn't speak up for herself, but is fiercely protective of her kids. She's nosy but well meaning, and is one of the few people who recognize Lilo's artistic talent and encourages it, as well as encouraging her to join the summer art program she's running that year.

She sort of stumbled across a few experiment pods and attempted to use them in a craft project. Said project became the target of her student, her student's weird dog, and a man who looks uncannily like a hammerhead shark. So now she's just. Aware of aliens. She definitely has some of the experiments pose for her life drawing sketches.))
