Did some work to my Ibanez RG today 🤌🏼

Installed a Dimarzio X2N in parallel and it sounds fierce. Installed a new potentiometer and output jack as well. It also has a killswitch. Tuned to E Standard (EADGBE)

Btw my dad and I made that pickguard out of a sheet of diamond plate and it’s so sick.

Noticed something really funny about this drawing after seeing someone on Bsky mention the Ibanez headstock:

That's not a fucking Ibanez RG, Salem!

That's the right headstock, sure. It's got the shark teeth on the fretboard, which is pretty classic for a lot of Ibanez models (neither of mine have it, but I see a lot that do), but the body? That's not an Ibanez body

At best that is a misshapen Stratocaster. The pickguard is not only the wrong color (white guards are pretty atypical for an Ibanez - it can happen, but when they have a guard, they'll usually have a black one), it's also in the wrong spot. The pickguard is never centered on the guitar body - its literal purpose is to guard the body paint from being scratched by the pick, so it sits off-center with its edge typically lining up with the lower edge of the body. Pic related of a classic strat to illustrate:

Now, as for the body shape, that's where it gets really wonky. Ibanez RG series guitars are pretty "curvaceous" with extra pointy horns and a fat bottom. Similar build to the classic strat, but with much more exaggerated lines. The horns are the right shape, but the body? Isn't. That's the Frankenstein love child of a Stratocaster and a PRS. I THINK that's supposed to be a Floyd Rose tremolo since it's got what appears to be a locking nut at the top of the neck, but if it is it's the worst Floyd Rose I've ever seen. And why does that poor guitar have what appears to be THREE humbuckers? Ibanez RGs will typically feature a dual humbucker or dual humbucker with a single coil

I dunno about you guys, but I don't think Salem has ever seen a guitar in real life 🤔

Hey, I am like, the UK's number 1 Slipknot fan, and have always wanted to know, what inspired your mask design?

MICK: Nothing. I had my original latex hockey mask way back and then my leather one and I was using those designs and it morphed into what it is now. There isn’t something crazy creative about it.

Hey Mick! I just want to let you know that you are a huge inspiration to me. You were one of the reasons I picked up a guitar, B.C Rich 7 string Warlock as my own first purchase, and got serious about it. My question is, how do you get new ideas for riffs and solos. I've made a couple of my own songs, but I always get stuck trying to make cool catchy riffs or solos. Got any advice?

MICK: Yes. Don’t over-think it. Just let it happen. Things come out. If you try and plan or force it will sound forced or dishonest. I never try and over-think a direction whatever comes out 1st time I play it comes out. I never spend a ton of time thinking because it sounds forced. If you spend too much time thinking about it, it won’t sound like you. Don’t try and sound like someone else.

How does it feel to be getting back to work with the rest of Slipknot after a 3 year hiatus? Did it feel great knowing you were going to be back behind the mask and in a recording studio once again or was it just the same as it was 3 years ago?

MICK: Things are always different when doing a new record. You are a different person than you were years ago. I don’t think in those terms. I just do what I do! But yes it felt good getting back to work.

What has been your scariest nightmare?

What was the biggest culture shock you experienced in a foreign country during SK a tour?

Mick, what advice would u give to young metal musicians trying to get our band noticed without reverting to the typical main stream sound?

MICK: Music should be honest, it should be an extension if you. You shouldn’t try and achieve a sound. It should just be you and not what you are trying to manufacture. We didn’t pay attention to the trends at the time when we wrote. We did what we felt and that is what you should do. You should play music for you and not to be noticed.

Hi Mick! What Pedals do you use for Before I Forget and Heretic Anthem, and what Guitar would you recommend for a O.K Metal player at good price (like below $400)?

MICK: I don’t use pedals on either one of those songs or any pedals of any kind. But if its distortion you are referring to I just have a tube head turned up loud. There isn’t one really so buy used. You can’t get anything new that price worth anything. Look at pawn shops and buy a decent used early to late 90’s Ibanez especially an RG 570.

10/31 ライブハウスキングコブラにA Punk Rock Halloweenに出演しました。

その時の感想含め写真残しこ😙

初めてやったライブハウスだったけど、スタッフさんがとても丁寧でまた利用したいと思いました🤩

サウンド面に関しては全て私が今回指示し作りました

やっぱりライブハウスってドラムのバスドラはお腹に響く感じがいいし、ギターはステレオで聴きたい

マイクなども自前の機材を使い、少しでもいい音飛ばさせれるように13:00〜17:00までリハーサルを行っていました

高校の頃から慕ってくれている後輩(ギタリスト)にも職場見学的な感じ兼音について一番理解しあえるので、サウンドテックとしてスタッフしてもらいました。

感謝！的確に音作りもしてくれました。

ギターサウンドには今回、最高峰の機材(当社比)を使用させていただきました。

こんなのサマソニとかじゃないと聞けないよ😂

バッキングギターにはQuadCodexを使用し、アンプライクな音をつくり、リードギターはいつものワムサウンドを少し高音寄りにして、2台合わせても音が喧嘩し合わないように且つソロに関しては抜けるようにミッドブースト+2.5dbにしました

ギターは私のメインギター

Gibson Lespaul、Ibanez RG、Lespaulcustomを用意しました

20曲ぶっ通しだったのと、ギタースタンドが二本しか使えなかったたので当日lespaulメインに急遽変更しました😂

イーライがこの時に弾いてたフレーズが気持ちよかったたらしく動画を回したけど撮り始めた時には終わったって悲しんでた（笑）

ベーシストは古賀さん！本当に上手いベースを弾いててリハーサルのときにセッションしましたが、また次も何かで一緒にやろうなと話ししてくれました🤩

古賀さんは私たちのVenueの銀さんの先輩らしく、世間狭い😂

今回のイベントが決まっときに、イーライからのラブコールがあり、参加を決めましたが本当に受けてよかったと思いました！

普段会わない人達とも仲良くなり、今の仕事の醍醐味を感じました。

何人かにバレてたけど、カーテンからお客さんいっぱい来てるかなーってイーライと覗いてました😂

こちらも楽しませてもらったし、良かったよとか楽しかったって声も聞けて幸せです！
