You know what I really miss as a writer? Early computer keyboards. The ones with the metal base that were so heavy that you could use one as a lethal blunt instrument should the need arise. They never moved. Their wedge shape angled for your fingers like a touch-starved whore, curving for better access. They went clicky-clacky and gave resistance as you typed. The letters never wore off the keys. The home key nubs never wore down. You didn't get that smooth worn bit on the spacebar without years of ultra-heavy use. You could vacuum them with a household hoover. They'd survive any apocalypse short of a drink getting dumped right over 'em.
The modern clicky-key keyboard revivals with their £££ designer price tags just aren't hitting the spot. They have the keyswitches but they don't have that brick shithouse engineering. I want the keyboard that came with my fourth-hand 8086 DOS machine. I banged out entire fanzines on that thing, going to make coffee while it buffered my words or saved them to disk. I went from first-grade-certificate touch-typing to smokin' expert on that thing. I miss solidity under my fingers as I create words.
#writer problems#fanfiction writer problems#the non-curly wires are the only improvement in 30 years#computer#keyboard#writing#ibm how i miss your bomb-shelter-level builds

New Keyboard!
I really missed my old IBM PC keyboard with its clicky bending spring technology action and curved design for ergonomics. I found that I could get a new one that plugs into USB from UNICOMP. Apparently it uses the same technology as IBM/Lexmark where the original IBM Keyboards were made. This is the 'New M' model. I do notice that I make fewer typos on it. I know when I have pushed the key far enough. Fewer dropped out characters. These are made in Lexington, Kentucky USA.

like seven keyboards i've reached endgame now i'm hoarding.
seriously, it’s not even some smoked out RGB or some ridiculous supposedly german grade engineered switches that i’m lusting with on this board. this is probably going to be a quick read as the length of the paragraph indicates and with the gaming industry in a quagmire of stolen spirit the question is not what i should be playing, its more… at least at my age, why are you playing instead of…

i am theoretically super into mechanical keyboard customization but in actuality, i hate soldering and also don't want to spend $500 or whatever, so i'm mostly a mechanical keyboard customization fan in theory. i also don't even own a mechanical keyboard.
#they're really cool but i'm very attached to my current keyboard#it has 500 shortcut keys that i cannot live without#like a keyboard that looks exactly like an IBM keyboard from the 70s would be cool#but consider this#having dedicated buttons for audio is absolutely vital#button for refreshing screen button for calculator button for bringing up file explorer
