Equipment: ZWO ASI2600MM Pro camera, Stellarvue SVX102T refractor telescope and a Losmandy G11 mount.

The image depicted uses an RGBSHO false color palette with a total of 420 minutes exposure time. I see about 5-6 recognizable animal shapes.  #astrophotography #astronomy

W5: The Soul of Star Formation

“Where do stars form? Many times, stars form in energetic regions where gas and dark dust are pushed around in chaotic mayhem. Pictured, bright massive stars near the center of W5, the Soul Nebula, are exploding and emitting ionizing light and energetic winds. The outward-moving light and gas push away and evaporate much surrounding gas and dust, but leave pillars of gas behind dense protective knots. Inside these knots, though, stars also form. The featured image highlights the inner sanctum of W5, an arena spanning about 1,000 light years that is rich in star forming pillars. The Soul Nebula, also cataloged as IC 1848, lies about 6,500 light years away toward the constellation of the Queen of Aethopia (Cassiopeia). Likely, in few hundred million years, only a cluster of the resulting stars will remain. Then, these stars will drift apart.”

IC-1848 has the colloquial name the “Soul Nebula” because in the sky it is adjacent to the neighboring Heart Nebula. Both the Heart and Soul Nebulae are about 7,500 light years for us on a neighboring spiral arm of our galaxy. 令和元年、晩秋〆キャンプに行ってきました！

一週間ほど前にも晩秋キャンプをしましたが、まだ〆るには早い！ということでやりたいこと色々持ち込んでまったりキャンプです。

気温-４℃。赤道儀で星を撮り、焚き火であたたまる…翌朝霜に覆われたところに朝日が差し込み、虹色に輝く。この空気感が【たまらん】

何年も追い求めていたハクガンにも会うことができ、何も言うこと無し。最高の晩秋キャンプとなりました。

*IC1805 & IC1848 - The Heart and Soul Nebula*: The heart and soul of our Galaxy located in Cassiopeia? Possibly not, but that is where two bright emission nebulas nicknamed Heart and Soul can be found. The Heart Nebula, officially dubbed IC 1805 and visible above on the right, has a shape reminiscent of a classical heart symbol. Located about 6,000 light-years from Earth, the Heart and Soul nebulae form a vast star-forming complex that makes up part of the Perseus spiral arm of our Milky Way galaxy. The nebula to the right is the Heart, designated IC 1805 and named after its resemblance to a human heart. To the left is the Soul nebula, also known as the Embryo nebula, IC 1848 or W5. The Perseus arm lies further from the center of the Milky Way than the arm that contains our sun. The Heart and Soul nebulae stretch out nearly 580 light-years across, covering a small portion of the diameter of the Milky Way, which is roughly 100,000 light-years across. The two nebulae are both massive star-making factories, marked by giant bubbles that were blown into surrounding dust by radiation and winds from the stars. WISE's infrared vision allows it to see into the cooler and dustier crevices of clouds like these, where gas and dust are just beginning to collect into new stars. The Soul Nebula - A reprocess of my data that I gathered in mid-January. The original image ended up being a top pick nominee on astrobin.com but also recieved some good criticism on the image's final histogram. I decided to go back and do some additional processing, mainly for the background, and ended up with this.
