IC-1848 has the colloquial name the “Soul Nebula” because in the sky it is adjacent to the neighboring Heart Nebula. Both the Heart and Soul Nebulae are about 7,500 light years for us on a neighboring spiral arm of our galaxy. Here's a gorgeous image of what is known as #SoulNebula, #EmbryoNebula, or #IC1848. This #EmissionNebula is located 6,500 light years away from Earth. These areas were carved out by radiation and winds from the regions most massive stars. This is actually the best evidence for a theory called trigger star formation. It's when the carving of these cavities pushes gasses together to form / ignite stars. #astronomy #astrophotography #nebula

Heart & Soul Nebula (HOO Palette) With cloudy skies over the past month, I have been working on multiple processes of my recent big projects, Heart & Soul as well as the California Nebula. I wanted to post this processing version first before jumping in any reprocesses of what has already been posted. Processing in HOO with a color camera and a dual narrowband filter is a lot more natural then processing in SHO because you do not have to simulate a Sii channel. I am leading with the starless version because it blew me away. Instead of using Starnet++ I have been using StarXTerminator and I 100% recommend it. Starnet isn't bad, but StarXTerminator has simply done a better and cleaner job in both stretched and unattached data for me. Astro Pixel Processor was used for stacking, separating channels, combining channels, and some back ground correction. Photoshop was used for final processing. . Heart & Soul Nebula - this is my normal processing on my 20 hour Heart & Soul project. As mentioned in my previous post, this is my longest project to date - my previous longest was 11.5 hours on the Rosette Nebula. I have been told that doing long projects with a One Shot Color (OSC) camera wouldn't make much difference, however I saw marked improvement in color, contrast, dust amd noise with each additional session. I am sure at some point there is diminishing returns, amd may even make it worse, but I do not know where that is yet. . The Soul Nebula - A reprocess of my data that I gathered in mid-January. The original image ended up being a top pick nominee on astrobin.com but also recieved some good criticism on the image's final histogram. I decided to go back and do some additional processing, mainly for the background, and ended up with this.
