I just think it would be neat

*Thinks of Ichigo,,, finding that annoyingly adorable. Peeling off his covers (and trying not to shiver at the onslaught of chill air) and pulling Grimmjow in suddenly. Wrapping an arm and a leg around all the flailing wet-cat-like limbs, and doing his mightiest to purr with his hollow throat. Like Shinji taught him (even though he didn’t want to learn at all, at the time).*

*Thinks of Ichigo meeting Grimmjow’s wide eyes with lazily parted warm browns, and smiling in amusement, when the arrancar stops fighting it and his eyes start squinting like a cuddly cat’s. Only to eventually squeeze them shut and curl his head into the pillow and stretch all over, before he goes lax in Ichigo’s hold.*

*Thinks of the duet of purrs filling the room, of Grimmjow’s head so burrowed in the sheets barely his mop of blue hair can be seen, and Ichigo’s chin resting atop. Rubbing it and his jaw all over Grimm without truly understanding why, because it feels right.*

*Thinks of Yuzu and Karin barging in suddenly, talking about going out somewhere, only for them to stop suddenly when Karin sees Grimmjow and points and gestures to Yuzu who squints as hard as she can for the semi-transparent blob sleeping next to her brother to take some shape. Both smiling conspiringly at each other, and giggling to themselves as they trot back out and close the door behind them, making sure Isshin knows Ichigo’s otherwise ‘unavailable’.*

*Thinks of Ichigo waking an hour or two later, to Grimmjow’s arms wrapped around his ribs and his legs around his hips like a little monkey; flushed from the comfortable heat and hair fluffy and disheveled. Of Ichigo planting a kiss on his forehead before he can talk himself out of it and almost waking Grimm with how hard and fast his heart starts to beat.*

on a slightly related note, i know we joke about ichigo being a dumbass (and sometimes he is), but he's also so much smarter than people give him credit for. i remember initially being frustrated by chapter 479, where ichigo "forgives" ukitake and soul society for stalking him using the combat pass, but i trust ichigo and it's interesting to see in retrospect that this is the same chapter where ichigo asks them to let him take ginjou's body back. the shinigami express outrage at this, and soi fon and shinji specifically mention all the awful things ginjou has done (especially to ichigo's family and friends), but ichigo says "it's not about forgiving or not forgiving; he was a deputy soul reaper"

this is essentially ichigo saying to soul society, "give him dignity for his services and i can trust that you'll do the same for me when my time comes." while ginjou went full-hostile-mode against soul society, ichigo plays his cards a little more cleverly. soul society needs ichigo, and ichigo needs his shinigami powers, so he's willing to take the first step of forgiving their transgressions so they'll (hopefully) pay him the same respect

As someone who hasn't considered the ship of ichigo and byakuya in more than a "oh that'd be an interesting ship", getting to the whole fullbringer arc really made me interested.

Like Tsukishima is able to place himself in memories and shit, which he does with the important people Ichigo has in his life. And all these people, Ichigo's family, his close friends, and the girl who loves him, instantly turn on him when Ichigo attacks Tsukishima.

The people who care the most about Ichigo and trust him with their lives are unable to break out of the ability or even question it. Orihime and Chad do try and fight it near the end but even they don't manage it before being removed from the situation entirely.

Tsukishima does this too with Byakuya and yet, out of all Ichigo's friends and family, it's Byakuya who actually goes against the enemies ability and cuts him down because anyone who dares to hurt Ichigo, even if they're a friend, must be cut down. And he does this almost instantaneously, without mulling it over unlike Chad and Orihime who only started to question things later.

That's just. . . Very interesting that out of everyone, it was Byakuya who would do such a thing, especially since, up to this point, we've not seen a lot between him and Ichigo.

Anyway I can see why my friend was a bit obsessed with these two when she was reading the manga. I can certainly see the potential even more now than I did and I certainly did earlier.

Me after I research the way ppl with light coloured hair were treated at school in Japan and make a bunch of headcannons about how Ichigo was probably picked on for his hair since he was little and teachers probably turned a blind eye or encouraged it and Masaki would always come to pick him up and yell at his teachers when they made comments about her 'fixing' his hair so he could fit in and then she decided to put him in karate classes so he could at least learn how to defend himself when she's not there and told him that he has to get big and strong so he could protect himself and his sisters like the superheroes on TV and when she died, everything got so much worse for him and he quit the dojo but he was getting older and bigger kids starting picking on him and beating him up and he wasn't good enough to beat them so he would come home all bruised and yuzu cried every time so he always tried to hide it from her but Karin always knew somehow and Isshin always patched him up and tried to reach out and tell him that he could talk to his teachers but Ichigo always refused because he didn't want anyone to take his mother's place and it would only make things worse for him if he got adults involved and Isshin understood that but hated feeling helpless, like he couldn't do anything to protect his own kid until finally it got bad enough that he couldn't stand by anymore because one of the stupid shits pushed Ichigo down the stairs and he broke his arm so he told Ichigo he would either have to get directly involved or Ichigo had to learn how to fight properly so he could protect himself and obviously Ichigo picked the latter so Isshin basically taught him hakuda because that was the only hand to hand combat he knew and this accidentally made it so that Ichigo dipped into his reiatsu reserves and made him as abnormally strong as he was in canon and after a while this training devolved into their usual silly chaos in canon because Isshin is not nearly as bad as the fandom makes him out to be and that's how they bond:

hmmm realizing in the soulmate au grimmjow absolutely 100% cares more about the scar ichigo gives him than the actual soul mark tying them together, because that scar is more of a claim on his soul than some blotchy mark the universe decided belonged on his arrancar body without his say-so. the scar’s a reminder of ichigo’s promise, too, so it’s doubly binding in a way the soul mark could never be, to either of them

Okay okay, because with the bleach anime going on again I’m seeing this crop up in much larger amounts and it’s irritating me

Ichiruki is one of those ships that I genuinely don’t really mind. I’m not super into it, but I see the potential and get why people would ship them, even if I prefer them being best friends as opposed to having a romantic relationship.

That being said, the vast majority of the avid shippers are supremely fucking annoying for two reasons. The first (and one that I think I’ve talked about on here a couple times before?) is that they act like it’s a genuine plot hole that ruined the whole story that Ichigo and Rukia didn’t end up together. They act like it is literally impossible for two people to be as close and loyal as they are unless there’s romantic feelings. Like idk, I think it’s fucking lovely to have a series that actually and genuinely presents a friendship as the titular relationship and most important one without even hinting at potential romantic feelings between them (especially considering it’s a male/female friendship which almost always gets shoehorned into being romantic at least in subtext by media). Like again, I understand why people might ship them, but there is nothing wrong with the fact that they didn’t end up together and it’s definitely not some great slight or fucking “plot hole” that “ruined” the whole story.

The second thing they’re doing (that might honestly be pissing me off more than the first) is the way they talk about Orihime. Like I get it, you have an irrational hatred of Ichihime because it became canon instead. Whatever. Hate the ship. But honestly the way they talk about Orihime like she is an irredeemable character is atrocious and they all act like it’s based on actual merit and not just the fact that they hated the endgame canon ship. I’ve seen takes that she’s useless during the entire plot (which seriously? There’s so many holes to poke in that one), that she’s poorly written so we should hate her (which while none of the female characters in bleach are handled Perfectly imo she is not inherently worse than any of the others), I’ve even seen people write whole “meta” posts about how she supposedly emotionally manipulated and abused Ichigo which is so ?????? It’s so misogynistic, it’s literally that thing where you hate a ship so you tear a female character to pieces for no reason but they’re all in to deep to realize that’s what they’re doing. Like Jesus yeah, hate Ichihime, but there is no reason to actually hate Orihime herself

Anyways I’m about to start blocking most really avid Ichiruki shippers cuz the way y’all talk about Rukia, Ichigo, and especially Orihime is so annoying and the whole concept of your little ship war is stupid beyond belief especially when the series has been over for over a goddamn decade
