Hello and welcome back! The Origins stuff is taking a little bit longer than expected, but I wanted to give you all something in the meantime. So, have some of the Legends Girlypops!
Tumblr media
Personally, and this might be because this is THE GAME I grew up with, I fw most of the princesses' designs. Personally, Ursula's is my favorite, with probably these two girlies coming next; but, anyway.
Some quick notes for the two!
A little bit of Barbara's hairstyle was inspired off of Ageis Hollyberry! I love the little hair just peaking out of the helmet it's really cute! Her axe stayed relatively the same with the small additions such as some vines and a brush tip! I'll explain why later on.
I wanted Selena to encapsulate that other side of her world, as her description says in legends. I decided to dive into the idea of her looking a bit like the Grim Reaper, hence the cloak. She's basically a guardian to Fiesta de Los Muertos. I've always adored how colorful and vibrant the attire for Dia De Los Muertos is. It's so pretty and cool! The face paint was also very fun. It was rather simply in Legends since it had to be animated, I suppose. But don't ask me to animate so I it gave some more details!
Turned her weapon into a duel-bladed scythe cause I thought that was fun, as you can see below. The blades are formed from blue fire.
Tumblr media
And also an alt version of Selena, probably how many people see the guardian upon entering the place the painting takes place. Just to add that the darkness as described earlier. She's a lot more introverted than her sister šŸ˜…
Tumblr media
While I'm here. I wanted to talk a bit about Legends and its world because I have some fun ideas I'd like to share! Things might change, but for now, these are some of the ideas I have.
- The five worlds Rayman Legends take place in are actually part of a whole new world known as "Canva." It was created a someone known as the Painter who dreams of creation were so strong it somehow came true! Her paintings have come to life and formed the world as she knew it today.
- The inhabitants of Canva are known as "Huemans." They are basically humans, BUT not really. They are made of pure ink and paint kinda like the Inkings and Octolings from Splatoon. However, they can adapt to their environment depending on what type of paint is used. A lot of huemans that live within wet or island environments tend to be made with watercolors which allows them to swim without consequence!
- Canva is a bit of an alternative universe. While the characters that like there are unique on their own, it's not say that they don't have their parallels from the characters of the Glade. For example , both Barbara and Rayman are known in their own worlds as the one and only mighty heroes. Let's just say Barbara was having her own version of The Great Escape in Legends.
- Each of the five paintings is guarded by a person known as an Artist. They were gifted rulership by the Painter herself. You'll learn more about the 5 down the line, but what I will tell is that they are parallels of the five rulers in the Glade (Carnivora, Mockingbird, El Stomacho, Creveton, and The Magician).
- The events of Legends happen a bit differently in this story I crafted up. The Pirates, Toads, and Marachi skeletons are all known to absolutely DESPISE each other. However, while the events of Origins go down, Mr. Dark (with the help of a certain robot...) takes his moment to strike and gets the three sides to work together in order to rebel against the Painter and their artists. Why? Well, that's another story for another day. Since I have NO CLUE if Murphy's claim of a "Rayman 4" will happen (as for now, I've just assumed he was talking about Rayman Origins), I want Legends to feel like a big finale where everyone from the previous main 4 games comes together for one final showdown! (The Rabbids are unfortunately not included because idk what to do with them quite yet... sorry šŸ™‡ā€ā™‚ļø)
That should be all i wanted to share as of now. Hopefully, next big post, I should have some more Origins stuff for you! šŸ‘

mandatory jiang cheng analysis now that i'm rewatching the untamed. (mind you i am currently 6 episodes in and this is exclusively based on the untamed. i have read the novel. i forget every word of it.)
tbh i have no strong opinions about the man in the first place just because... i don't really get attached to characters. and he wasn't like... interesting enough. but anyway
(adding a cut cause this got loooong)
seeing fandom discourse about him has made my conception of him confusing because he's always characterized as so angry by the fandom (at least from what i've seen. very surface level ik) but there's not really much reason to it other than jealousy about wwx and absorbing stuff from madam yu during the cloud recesses arc, and then bitterness and trauma (ig?) after the war and after the time-skip.
and then of course there's the fact that people either hate him or love him (as with many characters in this fandom lol) and there's really no in-between.
but rewatching the drama gave me thoughts:
1. the way jiang cheng acts with jin ling reminds me a lot of a concerned parent who can't express said concern through anything other than anger, and
2. bro is really concerned about face. actually a lot more concerned about it than the fandom led me to believe.
like okay, at first i was a bit confused as to why jiang cheng is constantly at wwx's neck for the smallest things, but i think these two factors play a major role in what makes him react the way he does.
I'll give two scenarios for your consideration:
first, let's look at jin ling in the first couple of episodes. this isn't about him, but rather how jiang cheng treats him. we know that jin ling cares a lot about his success. he does things (such as the 400 nets) to try and get ahead and do something note worthy. and jiang cheng encourages that attitude. he pushes his nephew to succeed, and jin ling responds to that. (i feel like their relationship actually sort of reflects the relationship jiang cheng had with madam yu. but that's something to look at another time.) at the same time, jiang cheng doesn't want jin ling to get hurt. he scolds him after recklessly going after the statue that appears in the first couple of episodes. but he doesn't know how to communicate his concern in any way other than yelling at him.
for the second we'll look at wwx during the cloud recesses arc. wwx is actually a lot more annoying than i remember, in the sense that i totally sympathize with jiang cheng. ik wwx is older, but it really feels like dynamic wise, jiang cheng is the older, responsible one telling wwx to behave himself. and he scolds him while telling him that! they argue! like siblings! but jiang cheng's frustration does seem a lot like the same concern that he has for jin ling. to jiang cheng, there are major consequences to misbehavior in gusu, and he wants to prevent anything bad happening to his brother. a lot of his anger seems to be out of care.
but in both cases, there's also the fact that i think jiang cheng is very conscious of face. honour/shame dynamics are very common in chinese culture, and as a clan heir, jiang cheng is probably hyper aware of the effects of one's actions on another's perception of you. he pushes jin ling to do better because it reflects well on the jinag, but more importantly, it reflects well on jin ling's parents. (and jinag cheng wants to honour his sister's memory, and what better way than to have her son succeed, and be able to stand with the best of his peers?) during the cloud recesses arc, they are in gusu to represent their clan, it's insulting to both their own clan and their hosts to be acting out of line. (probably, idk enough about chinese culture, but in my head it makes sense lol.)
wwx on the other hand appears to not care much about how one's actions affect the face of the group. there's definitely a sense that we get where he puts on this clueless, mischievous mask as a way to hide the fact that he's putting things together, but at cloud recesses, he's not really subtle about the goals of his questions. he's actually really blunt about things which is sorta unexpected. i'll need to compare that with how he acts later if to see if it's a skill he ends up developing better. but yeah, that aside, he just... he's willing to do stupid things because they are fun, and does not really think about how his frequent getting into trouble will affect others. (i'm not sure if he just straight up does not care, does not realize, or knows how to toe the line just so. maybe it's up to our interpretation. but i think the confrontation when the wen's interrupt their turn to salute, and the moment where he purposefully collides with jin zixuan and then lets him go ahead demonstrate a decent amount of social awareness so it's not like we can say he's totally unaware? idk.)
tldr, jiang cheng and wwx's personalities clash big time. one who cares too much about how one is perceived, and the other who completely disregards it. and big clash = argue a lot. iconic sibling behavior, let's be real
i do think that further along in the story it's possible that jiang cheng's motivations and reasons for why he acts the way he does become a lot more complex (because trauma + the war + just how people work in general), but to me, this concern for his family and his extreme focus on family honour seem to be his core motivators.

Hey, I'm not meaning to come off as rude or condescending like prev anon regarding this but rather just to explain, and I may not do a great job because I struggle a lot with cognitive dysfunction and brain fog:
Transandrophobia doesn't denote a societal hatred of men or masculinity, it specifically denotes how/from what angle misogyny informs transphobia against trans men/mascs. That's it.
Because to peri cis het normative society Assigned Male is Better than Assigned Female, they rationalize trans femmes/women as "men actually just trying to prey on women" and in the inverse, rationalize trans mascs/men as "women just trying to gain male privilege and power over other women" like it's Also about victimizing (usually white) Peri Cis Het Women and using a minority as a scape goat for the anger and fear that should be going towards predatory peri cis het men rather than dealing with the actual issue, e.g. the patriarchy itself.
The word means exactly what you attributed it to in passing, and has never meant a general fear or anger towards men, it's a general fear or anger towards trans men/mascs for being *perceived* as women Trying to be seen as men for the sake of harming other women, or bits and pieces of that rhetoric, and it's deeply ingrained in society at large as well as a pretty hefty chunk of the queer community as well. It's what informs ideas like "trans men/mascs can't face misogyny because they're Men" in queer spaces as well as "trans men/mascs are grooming impressionable teenage girls into ruining their bodies" or "trans men/mascs are just rebellious and deviant women trying to betray other women and oppress them," in society at large. Like we as a community largely agree, it's Also based in misogyny and transphobia, we just have a specific word for it too because the rhetoric changes when we are the target instead, and it changes a lot of our experiences as a result, so it's a lot easier to talk about when you have a term that denotes all of those experiences in one fell swoop.
I mean yeah. This is what I'm saying. This is restating a lot of what I've already said.
I honestly don't have much of an opinion on the word "transandrophobia" itself, only its use as a direct foil to transmisogyny. If this is what you wanna wrap into transandrophobia, that's totally w/e, it's just down to the words you use.
I don't think it's "never meant a general fear or anger towards men" because I do genuinely see people talking about "the rise of man hating in the queer community" and how that affects transmascs. People also DO use it as direct "opposite" to transmisogyny. Oftentimes, I feel like it's because they misunderstand transmisogyny more than anything else but I'll just be rehashing it here.
Like yeah idk. I don't have a problem with a word basically ever. I see transandrophobia used to shit down conversations about transmisogyny, though, or brush off the areas of privilege that trans men do have sometimes. Maybe it's just the nature of being in primarily transfemme online circles and being most exposed to it when it's an interjection, but yeah. Idk.
Idk this is a side note but I'm realizing now that I don't think I've ever outright said that transandrophobia doesn't exist. I mean I've explained my viewpoints in detail at this point but I feel like, y'know, again, I got lumped in with the exact words of other bloggers talking about transmisogyny. Which y'know. I love and respect estrogenesis and others I can't recall off the top of my head but I'm not them, and I don't have the exact same opinions as them.
Also, turning off reblogs cuz I think I'm done discussing this for now, and I won't be responding to further akss. It's down to this level of picking nits and I'm just kinda tired of this stuff right now. When a discussion about something this relatively nitpicky stretches into multiple days then I think it's just time for me to stop lol

I think the other thing about it is that sometimes what you get out of art says a lot more about you than it does the artist. and what you see in people says more about you than it does them.
the people who looked at Gaiman's work and saw beauty and love for humanity and a life worth living may have been looking at the mask of a monster, and they may have been seeing a bit of something real in an otherwise abusive person, but what they were definitely seeing was a reflection of something already inside themselves.
your relationship with art isn't just about the art, and it isn't just about the artist. it's about you. you are a lens the art shines through, and you are a part of the conversation the art is having, and you are reflecting and being reflected through and by the art, and you are echoing and interpreting pieces of yourself alongside pieces of the art.
it's not foolish to see good things in art made by shitty people. it's not foolish to see good in people who are lying. it's not foolish to trust, believe, hope, or love. I think you might just have hope, love, and joy in your heart, and you might just be finding it in all of those places because you carried it there with you in the first place.

ehhhhhh
I have rarely felt so bad about watching/enjoying a show as I do about watching/enjoying Hawaii Five-O???
I'm trying to tell myself it's okay because the fact that I have all these issues with it clearly means that I'm engaging critically with the media I've been presented but.... well, most of the time I would drop shit that sucked this hard. Also.............. I'm pretty sure it's going to cause me to develop an eye twitch.
The racism is nooooon-stop (especially towards Arabs, like, if my brother-in-law caught me watching this, I would be both embarrassed and ashamed... there are three times - so far - that we get to see Muslim/Arab men not be the villains and each time is so wrapped up in white savior narratives that it's entirely moot), the sexism (Danny listing how great his team is and then just goes: and Kono's a fox I had a crush on, that's not a personality trait, that's not even an action she performed, that is literally just what she looks like which SHOULD BE the least important thing about any human you know??? let alone someone you've worked with for seven years. She is also made to consistently be around men who are disgusting and creepy with her - could be anyone's job, somehow is Kono's - and then the show eventually tries to redeem these men by giving them more complex backstories than Kono gets to have... if not for her mother/surfing, her only backstory is her relationship [*coughs*what Max praises her for when he leaves.... also not a personality trait*coughs*], NO BUT THE SEXISM (there's a group of girls locked in the cargo area of a truck and Steve is fighting their (1) captor and he knocks his gun away, has him completely distracted, and you don't think any of those girls might.... help? Join in? Want to shoot this fucking dude with the gun that has been dropped practically at their feet? Nope, nuh uh, they're just there to watch Steve be heroic, to be audience to his epic masculinity. EW. JUST EW.), these specific examples are all from season seven too so what should be improving is literally nose-diving into even deeper depths of misogyny. There's also classism in nearly every episode in some fashion and fatphobia almost every time Jerry or Kamekona or Flippa make an appearance. Plus, y'know, the police brutality that the show is built on.
I'm also pretty sure Peter Lenkov (based on the articles that have come out about his on set abuse, particularly in regards to Lucas Till) really has a chip on his shoulder about Scott Caan/Danny (who is short, blond, has attractive qualities that rely more on bone structure than ruggedness) and regularly tries to back him into traits he considers more 'feminine': wanting to stay out of danger/wait for back-up/you know... use brain rather than brawn, makes him more fashionable (including that scene about the lingerie that definitely could be read more than one way), making him be 'the nag,' etc. I just REALLY HOPE it bothered the fuck out of him that Scott Caan has more of the traditionally masculine qualities than his rock hard ode to masculinity that is Steve McGarrett/Alex O'Loughlin.
#honestly no one else has to engage with this#i just wanted to idk nOTE IT#like i am in season 8 and i know i am going all the way to the bitter end because i really love steve and danny's dynamic#[[[[but THE HORROR OF IT honestly TH EHORROR]]]]#especially with the way it's warping as they've known each other longer#(like i see a lot of complaints that they're ~meaner to each other the later it goes but..... yes#that is the natural progression of a relationship that is both this strong and this close#they are together too much not to sweat ALL the small stuff and they are too tangled not to know they can't say whatever the fuck they want#to each other and still be fine at the end of the day#their place in each other's lives is too cemented to have to worry about what they say/do to each other#they can now get under each other's skin better and easier than any other person in their lives because they've earned that#double-edged sword and all#there have only been two times that i have thought: nope in regards to things they've said/done to each other#and both times it has to do with danny's kids and something steve said/did)#it also just cracks me up that i'm pretty sure i can tell the creator dude had a problem with scott caan#the same way he had a problem with lucas till#and yet scott's the better athlete - surfing/skateboarding/jiu-jitsu (which alex also knows but is a few years behind scott progress-wise)#with more of the 'traditionally masculine' traits he seems to revere#he seems like a dude who is BOTHERED when people are experts at stuff when they don't look like what he considers 'experts' to look like#hawaii five o#hopefully that's far enough down a tag that it won't show up in the search?#please if you can see it and love h50 this is not for you - that's just to organize on MY blog lol

Tigerstar 2.0 has been one of my favorite characters for years, he's silly, he stirs up drama — you know I love cringy little guys who stir up drama — and he loves his kids. At least, those have been traits I've enjoyed about him in previous books.
Not a big fan of his recent behavior in regards to Birchfeather, though I can understand it. He's being a hypocrite, and Tawnypelt points this out. It sounds to me like something he's going to have to work on, something that will take time, and I'm okay with that on its own! Unfortunately I don't have faith in the authors to give him that time. I fully expect them to move on and that's a shame. Because a story about a father lashing out over his son's choices and then having to learn to accept that he shouldn't expect to have control over everyone's choices... would be a good story.

I may be a tad hyperfixated
Ok so like, Starline has 100% become my defacto comfort series and because of that I’m thinking about it nonstop, all the time, every day, so I have a lot of things that I have to share about it
The two listener characters in either entry, Skipper in SL2 and Breckett’s spouse in SL1 (who I’ll be calling Hops because I’m a comedic genius) are left pretty blank character and backstory wise for obvious reasons, but there are still a few things we can deduce about them (us?) that I wanna write down so I don’t forget
I’ll be putting down things we know about Breckett and Hakir as well just for the sake of having it all in one place (and also because they’ve pretty firmly made themselves at home in my mind palace)
I’m splitting this up into two parts because I need to relisten to Starline 1 before I finish that part of this, so this post will only cover Hakir and Skipper
Hakir:
-Hakir’s full name:
Hakir’s full name is Hakir Ven Krolist.
Not exactly groundbreaking information, but it’s only brought up like once or twice in the whole series so I’m putting it here anyway
-Hakir was a sentinel during or before Starline 1
This is mostly just a timeline thing.
Hakir was a sentinel at some point which means he had to have signed up before the war.
However he’s a red diamond, meaning he was dishonourably discharged and fought against them during the war.
-Hakir was about 15 during Starline 1:
In Starline 1 it’s established that a lot of people who sign up to work for the sentinels do so because they don’t have any other choice, needing to help provide for their families or just provide for themselves the moment they come of age.
Hakir was a Sentinel and it’s very likely he joined when he came of age.
In Starline 1 Breckett also says that he was only 13*[SEE END FOR CORRECTIONS] when the Sentinels ruined his life, the fact he says ā€œonly 13ā€ means that he was either a child, a teenager, or a very young adult (we can probably remove child from that lineup purely because Breckett seems to have left home soon after that and I doubt a kid would’ve made it very far).Ā
From this we can deduce that it must be pretty common for intergalactic races to come of age somewhere around 15 years old, probably a bit earlier or a bit later depending on species because if they didn’t he would have clarified what stage of their life his race is in at that age.
Meaning that from now on 15 is the assumed age that a species is considered an adult at.
It can’t have been that much time since Hakir’s discharge from the sentinels because he’s still in tip-top fighting shape by Starline 2 so he obviously isn’t like 50 by then
Assuming he joined the Sentinels as soon as he could to help provide for his family, he would have joined at about 15 years old and have been discharged soon after because of his behaviour.
-Hakir is in his late 20’s to early 30’sĀ
In the Starline 2 trailer’s description it says it’s been 15 years since the events of Starline 1
meaning that Hakir must be around 30 years old, give or take depending on when his species is an adult.
-Hakir is not very trusting of other people:
Hakir is fairly distrustful of people and quick to close himself off, in fact it’s a fairly large part of his character.
He’s initially distrustful of Trailblazer, very quick to turn on the Director after it’s not how he imagined it. (even if the distrust toward them is justified)
Hell, he didn’t even trust Skipper, the soon-to-be love of his life before they’re put into a life or death situation, and being locked into two different rooms together (the prison in episode 1 and their shared bedroom thereafter.
Hakir is understandably very closed off, and his trust and love for Skipper just goes to show how much they love each other.
-Hakir is still close with his family:
Both when explaining the naming system of his species, and when talking about his and Skipper’s relationship moving forward it’s clear that Hakir is still very close with his family.
-Hakir wants Skipper to step on him:
youtube
Need I say more?
Skipper:
-Skipper isn’t their real name:
Ok let’s get this out of the way first
Skipper is almost 100% a nickname or a pseudonym they go by because so much of their work is illegal.
It's just like how Mindflayer's listener character gets nicknamed Rook eventually. (Also sidenote, but Lorraine, Harph, and Rook have the fucking strongest polycule vibes in all of fiction istg)
Maya calls them ā€œSkipperā€ when speaking to Hakir as well, meaning it’s *definitely* what they use for work.
There’s never any sort of clarification on whether it’s their first name or last name or what the rest of their name is.
It also makes sense from a storytelling perspective to have it be a nickname rather than an actual name since it lets us better project our own traits onto Skipper.
All this to say that Skipper is definitely not their real name, and just one of those nicknames that’s so good everyone calls them that rather than their real name.
-Skipper is really skilled when it comes to combat
Both before and during the series their fights with Hakir show that their abilities are at least equal to that of someone who definitely has both training from the sentinels and combat experience from the war.
From this it’s pretty obvious that Skipper is incredibly skilled with combat and that it’s something they enjoy immensely.
-Skipper is in their 20’s:
In episode 1 Argus says that Skipper started doing smuggling work the moment they were old enough to fly a ship (almost definitely 18), he also says they’ve only been at it for a few years with Smuggling work meaning they’re, at the very youngest, 20 years old, but more likely somewhere between 20-25
A lot less deduction than Haki’s age huh? :3
-Skipper was a child during Starline 1:
Again just more timeline stuff, but Starline 1 takes place 15 years before Starline 2, meaning that Skipper was somewhere between 5-10 years old
-Skipper cares about other people's well-being a lot:
Making sure to keep Hakir off the bottle, getting him to drink water instead of coffee when he's hungover
Early on in the series Skipper begins to show a lot of concern for Hakir’s wellbeing even though up to this point they’ve been pretty bitter rivals.
Whilst there’s an argument to be made that it’s only because they’re working together now, the turnabout in behaviour is far too quick to just be in self-interest, especially if they harboured genuine resentment toward Hakir.
TheyĀ  make sure to keep Hakir sober when possible, probably already aware of his destructive drinking habits from their shared history.
And the night after they sleep together when Hakir suggests drinking coffee to deal with their hangover Skipper tells him to drink water, he responds with a stutter and a slightly more submissive tone as well which means Skipper was firmly ordering him to drink water rather than just suggesting it.
-Skipper is very trusting of other people:Ā
Trailblazer and Breckett even though they were both connected to the director (there’s not even any indication given that they’re upset with the director which implies they understand and forgive it)
Skipper is very innately trusting of other people, after meeting trailblazer they’re very quick to trust him despite Hakir’s objections, and it’s only because of them that Hakir is willing to give Blazer a shot.
They also don’t seem to harbour any resentment towards The Director (at least not that’s shown) which seems to imply that they forgive him.
On top of that their relationship with Hakir is built up very quickly expressly *because* they’re willing to bury the hatchet and put their full trust in him right off the bat.
-Skipper is a smartass:Ā
There are a few different times when Skipper makes a snappy remark or a quick-witted joke, and in episode 8 (Hangover) Hakir straight up calls them a smartass.
On one hand this is mostly just Skipper being a funny person in general, but on the other it seems like it might partially be a bit of a persona they put on to bolster their own confidence considering the fact that in a lot of situations they’re actually ratherĀ
-Skipper is highly intelligent:
Skipper is a very clever person, they’re an incredibly skilled hacker, have good combat awareness, quick on their feet, and being smartass requires that you actually be smart.
-Skipper is very unserious:
Skipper is pretty much constantly making jokes or acting silly, even in dangerous situations like when they were trying to dock the director's ship and make a joke about Iron-Man.
Barring scenarios where they’re in mortal peril, Skipper is always ready to make light of a situation, and this functions as a bit of a grounding force for the people around them like Hakir since he’s a lot more stable mentally and emotionally when they’re around.
-Skipper is a total nerd:
Beyond the obvious Iron-Man reference it’s made pretty clear that Skipper is a bit of a geek.
The main thing is their knowledge with computers and hacking, getting interested enough in computers and stuff to even start hacking already has the dweeb alert blaring at full volume, but beyond that, committing fully, learning how to code and then subsequently learning how to hack is massive nerd activity.Ā
-Skipper does smuggling work because they love the danger, freedom and adventure that comes with it:
Skipper could pretty easily land a job somewhere with their m4d hax0r sk1llz (god I'm sorry, I shouldn't be allowed near a keyboard) and there aren't exactly a lack of places to find work with the entire universe at their disposal, so it's very likely that they do smuggling work because it's fun rather than because it's profitable (though it probably is, Hakir mentions some jobs Skipper stole from him would've made him rich) and the only reason someone could find this kind of work enjoyable is if they love the danger, freedom, and/or adventure that come with it.
-Skipper is very confident in themselves and exaggerates their confidence further with faux-egotistical behaviour:Ā
There are 2 or 3 times in the series where Hakir tells Skipper that they shouldn't let something ā€œgo to your headā€. The fact that this is repeated tells us that this is common behaviour from them.Ā
Skipper is either actually overconfident in themselves or they pretend to be for the sake of being funny.
The odds of them being genuinely egotistical are incredibly low for a few reasons, but what springs to mind is the night where they sleep with Hakir, because before they're willing to go through with it they voice concerns that it's just a fling rather than anything more.Ā
It’s obvious that at this point they've already developed feelings for Hakir, and they're concerned enough that he won't be interested in them that he'll just leave again afterward.
This kind of insecurity isn't the type of thing one would expect from someone who would be totally full of themselves.
-Skipper is actually very soft in private
In the scene where Hakir and Skipper are making out drunk and about to sleep together, Skipper needs to be reassured that Hakir is actually interested in them and that it’s not just a one night stand.
In the hangover scene they gently reassure Hakir that they enjoyed their night together even though he thought it was a bit of a disaster.
and finally
In the scene where the two of them have accepted their fate and are lying in one another’s arms ready to die together, Skipper is happy being held and comforted by Hakir about their fate rather than being the one doing the holding or comforting.
All this points to the fact that in private Skipper is actually a huge softie despite their confident and jokey exterior when it comes to how they act in public.
-Skipper isn't close with their family:
Ok so this is a big one. I can't remember in which episode this is, but Hakir says that maybe when Skipper and their parents are on good terms again they could introduce Hakir to them.
This tells us a few things, namely:Ā
Skipper and their parents are on bad terms, the fact that they might be on better terms at some point in the future means that it's over something that can be forgiven, and the fact that they might introduce their boyfriend means they’re still close enough to care about what their parents think which means their relationship isn't totally shattered, just fractured.
In the first episode Argus mentions that Skipper ā€œstarted the moment you were old enough to fly a shipā€ with their career in smuggling which means the second they could they left home and put as much distance between them and their parents as possible.Ā
From this we can then deduce that whatever caused the fallout between them and their parents was incredibly severe despite the fact they seem willing to forgive.
Which means that it’s probably that Skipper is queer in some way (which is pretty obvious looking at their character, kinda fruity)
All this to say it's pretty likely that it all played out as follows:
Skipper discovers that they're queer in some way during their teenage years.
They choose to come out to their parents
Their parents are NOT accepting, but aren't bad enough to create a permanent divide between them
Skipper leaves home the second they can and starts with their current career
The Exciting Conclusion!
From all of this information we can actually narrow down a lot of things about each of the characters into more concise profiles starting with
Hakir:
Hakir is a very closed off and cautious person, his initial reaction to just about anyone is to keep them at an arm's length unless absolutely necessary.
Once you get close enough to him to break through his hard exterior though he’s a fairly chill guy.
He has a hard time keeping himself mentally or emotionally in check alone, but Skipper helps to keep him happy, healthy and enriched.
He’s a little bit rough around the edges, but Hakir is consistent and reliable, nobody better to have on your side when the chips are down, just be sure to support him and he’ll be there to help.
Skipper:
Skipper is an incredibly trusting and caring person, they put the safety of others before their own and care deeply about anyone close to them to the point they’re willing to forgive huge mistakes or misjudgements of others.Ā
They put on a persona of independence and confidence both as a way to deal with the hardships that they face on a regular basis, and to ground others around them in times of need.
In more private situations like with close friends or Hakir they drop the act and show that they’re actually a lot softer and are more willing to be doted on than in public.
They’re super sharp, but never use their intelligence to degrade or diminish other people’s abilities.
Fun, caring, and calming. What more could someone want?
I'll be releasing the Starline 1 version sometime soon, so be ready for that when it drops!
*Edit: So I started my relisten of Starline 1 and uhhhhh
I may be stupid
Breckett actually says that he was only in his 30's when the Sentinels came, his use of "only" indicates that his species is still fairly young at 30 years old.
This could mean that Breckett's species might live for far longer than humans do if 30 is still young, maybe even hundreds of years, or that maybe the advancements made in modern technology have extended the lifespans of all species to the point that 30 is still very young. (I choose to believe the second one purely because it means Breckett and Hops get to grow old together, and if they don't get a happy ending then my heart wil shatter)
I also want to bring attention to the fact that the translator might have a part in this since we know it has a tendency to embezzle details a little bit. Like when Breckett makes food from his homeworld and we hear him call it squid, but he also clarifies that it's not a type of seafood.
So there's a very good chance that when Breckett says he's 30 he might not be using human years, he could be using his homeplanet as a reference for how long a year is or it could be some other intergalactic constant we aren't aware of.
Not to mention the fact that there's probably a whole slew of space terminology that doesn't have any equivalent in any human language yet.
And if the translator is meant to function off of a wide set of data from a bunch of different sources like a neural network of some kind the fact that it only has one person as reference for how all of the English language works would probably cause a few issues.
All this to say I've basically just debunked my entire argument for Hakir's age and he could be any number of years old.
I'm sticking to my guns though because I've already implanted it into my brain as canon and if they have similar lifespans then they're far more likely to die at around the same time and not need to mourn their partner's death for like another 100 years. I still think that Hakir is around 30 and no one can convince me otherwise.
Plus this all comes with the bonus headcanon that everyone in the future gets to live far longer which is always nice.

And so the big sskk shortage begins (no sskk for the next 15 episodes) (and the sskk episode coming after kind of sucks)
#Hhhhhh this is such a good episode.#I don't have any particular strong feeling for Fukuzawa nor Ranpo but this is a very good episode.#The pacing is great the tension and ease are well distributed as much as action and exposition are.#The animation is spectacular and detailed. The drawings beautiful. The imperfect black and white is originalā€š compelling and eyecatching#Truly something that shows the animators were given budget and enough time to really think it through. Please more of this#Off to more personal notes I clearly remember the moment in my dorm room I watched the bsd anime–#come back for the first time after three years and the reveal of the untold origins novel being adapted that came with it.#It's such a sweet memory. I was so so excited and happy and thinking back at it makes me :')#In love with Oda's voice please speak more baby#About voices Fukuzawa looks so younggggg and yet his voice is so deepppppppp it's a funny contrast ahah.#Fukuzawa was very pretty when he was younger.#Distributing countless papers on the floor of my childhood's house attic to order them to the point there was no space left to walk is–#something I actually used to do when I was little. That's a cute memory too. I've always liked organizing stuff lol#Seeing all the actors preparing in the backstage threw me back to my musical theater hyperfixation.#Theater backstage feels so familiar to me if only because I used to keep up with the actors' i/nstagram stories religiously pffttttt#I really like Oda.#Wish his life had a little more happiness in it. Wish Fukuzawa could have adopted him too. Wish he could have married Dazai.#Alas :///#Aight no Atsushi this episode (and no Akutagawa for a whole season Godā€šā€šā€šā€šā€šā€šā€š ) but a lot more exciting things to come!!!!!#Oh almost forgot the op and ed songs are so good too hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh#Actually I think I just might have a soft spot for everything s4 since it's the first season I witnessed as it was airing pffttt#random rambles#I probably need to find a better file to watch the season... So far I'm still using the old episodes I individually downloaded–#as the anime was dropping. Which technically are still 1080 mkv but idk I feel like the quality is not the best.#And the subtitles are suboptimal

So many projects I want to work on, so much planning to do for fun trips, so much holiday fun imminent, and not enough time
#definitely was spooky#like. i have all of the things to do that i was putting off bc deadlines but now that i have time it's just been a lot of decision paralysi#is that the name for it? idk.#but like. wanna rewrite the dragon's tears for totkau wanna finish the last ones wanna finish my notes for the story wanna write the END#wanna make a post about my splatoon saf cast properly so i can start just making posts whenever i think about their rehearsals#wanna finish my midi arrangement.#< that's a big one and i'm really feeling that rn.#seeing smy doing such cool stuff learning to draw is making me want to keep learning that skill and finish that arrangement#gonna have to move it to different software probably for the better string samples#just kinda daunting. perhaps my first midi project in five years shouldn't have also been my first orchestral arrangement#especially when i did little to no music making in that time#i wasn't gonna talk abt it on tumblr but sack it if you read this far i'm telling you#it's tricky because it's an arrangement of melodies from saf in the style of a very specific piece of music from the end of totk#so trying to make those styles go together is probably a task better suited to someone with FAR more experience.#not to someone doing his first arrangement of someone else's music.#also need/want to plan a lot of stuff for cosplays which is also daunting bc i have done cosplay in public a grand total of two (2) times#only one of which was meant to be seen by other fans. so.#i wanna start making bracelets for icbiballtay too. need more s beads though lol#and i haven't even mentioned getting started on my next assignments gfkgshkgsk#anyway i should stop running my mouth online but also hi

which is gayer? SIX or Adamandi (real)
adamandi
#like. gotta break it to you. one of these musicals is canonically lgbtq and it's not the one where women sing about their dead husband yknow#like. idk what to say! but <shrugs>#ask me stuff???#must say the fandoms are really quite different. i'm quite fascinated by the dynamics tbh#also i realise a lot of the queendom(? forgot that was the name for a hot sec) go mad about women in shiny pretty costumes slaying#but also hmmmm adamandi is very much gender for me.( for all the characters. but specifically vincent and beatrix)#and the thing about queerness is it literally gets woven into the narrative. and it's Obvious.#smth about canonical lgbt+ rly is just. it hits. the representation is real? as opposed to fandom interpretations only#(and like... i love fandom interpretations and when people can see a new side to the character that they feel seen in!!!)#(but having it be in the original content is just... yeah... you do feel kinda especially seen)#watching adamandi was a bit like first watching firebringer for me? like except for sexuality it was gender o.O#firebringer was the first musical i saw with a canon wlw couple. and like i'd known that girls could like girls for a while but#there was the small italicised oh moment where i was like ''this is actually real'' <it's maybe worth noting i wasn't very active on soc me#about consuming things other than content. so i wasn't very exposed to the community at large. so representation in media mattered!!>#similarly it's been a while since then and both online and irl i've found people who are more open about it and accepting. i've been very#very lucky in that sense. to have specific irl friendgroups where we're all out to each other <based on sentiment? i think most of us#including me. aren't openly out irl> ... and online i'm really glad to have friends who Get It and are similar to me. but the representatio#... !!! omg hsnfjkfgdsdsghf yknow?? the representation in adamandi really got me. the pronouns thing especially.#and because the core source material is Like That.. existing fandom is all accepting already. so bonus points i guess#sorry i have turned this silly little question into a reflection prompt.. but. thoughts.#[wow. on further retrospection i've never outed myself at all online either people just saw the ship art and Inferred and]#[to be fair they were Not Wrong. idk. tumblr avvy is very vastly different from irl me but neither of us feel comfortable stating it so-]#[also worthy mention of the musicals fandom that exposed me to the whole concept of lgbtq+ being a Thing at the ripe young age of 14]#[what a way to discover it. really. i say this with extreme fondness. conversely i have friends who decided through genshin or anime so idk#<i'm aware of the diverse casting thing for six!! i think it's very cool!! i also realise the show plot doesn't really have much to do w it

one very mild divide between gen z and younger and millennials is that millennials will use the word "website" while younger people almost always say "app". like do you call twitter a "website" or an "app"? it always sticks out to me soo much when people do this idk.

The Poisons We Drink
YA urban fantasy
a girl who brews powerful potions is coerced into making potions to interfere with D.C.’s most influential politicians in an attempt to stop a dangerous Witcher Registration Act from passing, and will do anything to protect her sister after their mother is killed
bi MC, nonbinary love interest
arc from netgalley
#The Poisons We Drink#aroaessidhe 2023 reads#this is…….a lot of cool ideas but also so many elements and high stakes that i kinda lost track of them#the pacing is weird. the worldbuilding is random?#why is brewing SO overpowered & risky for her but the other powers seem to have pretty normal low-scale risks?#it’s definitely ambitious and has some cool ideas and also some great characters just. didn’t execute as well as I’d like#as much as we’re told the main threat is the government trying to put through a Registration Act#most of the actual antagonism we see is from other Witchers?#like the systemic discrimination got a bit lost in the witcher family drama and murder politics#important things to say about oppression and police violence but like....idk#she has this ā€˜deviation’- essentially evil sentient magic inside her head (and you KNOW I love that trope)#but it’s barely explained and very underutilised? other than helping her get out of bad situations you could take it out & would barely#change anything#also it’s explained at the start that she’s an empath but other than the very occasional mention I kept forgetting#will also note that I bumped this up my tbr because I saw the author talking/promoting it as the MCs sister being aroace but no mention#maybe it’ll come up in a sequel (there weren’t really any places where it would have made sense to bring it up here) but idk#(just the way the author was asking for advice on how to write an ace character and stuff you’d assume that they’d….put that in the book?)#not really a critique of the book itself but anyway. I really wanted to like this but the way it was put together just did not vibe with me#edit: I saw the author say on twitter that the version used for ARCs was before ace stuff was added and that there's other signif changes?#so perhaps that will be there! i'm not sure if I want to read it again but might skim just to see what that's about
