Has time always moved this fast? I'm genuinely asking. In 200 years we went from Bridgerton to AI. The everyday lives of people in each of these eras feel like universes apart. I'm no historian, but it seems like the everyday lives of people between 1500 and 1700 weren't that different.

Have humans throughout time immemorial reflected on life 30 years ago, 100 years ago and commented on how vastly different it was? It feels like we're running at a breakneck pace in the modern era. The It Gets Better project was founded in 2010 because gay people were so universally ostracized that lgbt teen suicide rates were off the charts. And while we're still pretty far from full LGBT equality, openly having a problem with gay people existing is a pretty fringe opinion now that's fairly universally frowned upon, even in the southern US.

I'm pretty sure the first time a woman wore pants in congress was in the 90s.

Culturally, technologically, resource-wise, it feels like every 5 years we leap 5 decades forward. Is it just our own preoccupation with the era we live in that makes this moment feel so significant? Or are we actually moving as quickly as it feels?

I know people have always laughed at the grandpa's who complain "when I was your age...", but has the gap ever been this wide? Or is there truly something special about now.

The entire time I’ve been writing wiiimdy it kinda kept up with real irl time (which I didn’t intend at all, fully a side effect of writing this beast from the middle and building out in both directions.)

So when Jace’s fictional birthday passes, the chapter covers that will be posted in time with it. (Again unintentionally, I think I just write kinda slow lmao) Chapter 6 happens in the beginning of July, it went up in July. A while ago I asked what sign Jace would be and I forget who but someone said Leo suits him (it does it soooo does) so in wiiimdfy his birthday is end of August bc Jace doesn’t celebrate his birthday much typically but it corresponds with the school year starting so he likes to bring in cupcakes for his classes to celebrate with them instead. They watch movies the entire day and sometimes his upperclassmen bring him a gift.

During sophomore year they all pitched in and got him a purple stainless steel bottle and decorated it with stickers for him. It’s been his favorite ever since. He wasn’t shatter star’d yet, but when he was, using that water bottle grounded him a bit between all the chaos.

One time he saw Porter drink from it and he did almost kill him 💖 he never did it again but he did rmr that it’s Jace’s favorite.

I think the rest of wiiimdfy won’t correspond with real time after this bc of the timeline but from June-August it did and I think that’s fun. Idk maybe I’m extra sentimental about this fic bc it is the first fanfic I’ve written since I was 14 and it dragged me out of my creative rut (which is a credit to the ship more than it is the fic itself but ya know.)

Once it’s done it’ll be a little bitter sweet. Once chapter 7 is up, it’ll be the halfway point. It’ll go a lot faster too bc the second half is mostly written already. Fashion model au comes next and I’m mentally prepping for that by drooling over all the cute clothes Jace can wear and I do like that Jace and who he’ll be but wiiimdfy Jace? That’s my special little guy. And wiiimdfy Porter my pirate librarian man that gave me the chance to figure Porter’s character out more has been 💖 it’s mostly canon compliant so now there are fic truths that are now so synonymous with their characters in general to me and I just 🤧 bc we knew so little about them both before and now it’s like mhm mhm now they have history and lives. Like Jace’s sister is an original character but she’s so real to me and I adore her to pieces. Jace’s entire family means a lot to me actually. And Porter’s too 💖 they haven’t showed up in the story at all and idk if they will but Porter’s daughter and ex wife 💖💖💖 he loves them and he fucked up doing evil on the side but he’ll make it right bc he wants Jace to meet his daughter some day. And he will and Jace will love her like she’s his own and 🤧🤧🤧 it’ll take a sequel fic that is so self indulgent to even get to that point but it’s real in my stupid little heart.

This fic started simply as: Jace gets an emotional support dog. And now it’s something so- not far removed but MORE than that. Also his dog was almost named Vanilla (Extract) bc she’s the same color of it and I like baking. Milkshake was gonna be a place holder but it was also a lot less convoluted and very cute. It suits her 💖

Pettiest, most unprovable thing that I still scoff and roll my eyes at like they just failed a freebie question on a test is when people headcanon Spanish Jackie doesn't like Izzy.

Izzy makes a quip about hating her bar yet Geraldo, a husband who doesn't seem to get out much and comes from a gang - not pirate - background knows him by sight. And is surprised he's been away so long. Jackie is about to add Stede's nose to the jar and a hesitant interjection that Izzy was in there looking for him stops it instantly.

"But wait," you ask, thinking that somehow I've not already thought of this, "Doesn't it make more sense that she stopped because of Blackbeard aka most intimidating guy around???"

You would think, maybe, except minutes later Geraldo is dispatched to lure Stede to the Spanish Navy to die. If she actually cared about Edward's opinion then nothing has changed. I guess the Geraldo trap is trying to be covert but it's not terribly effective? Edward literally follows them. She still very pointedly avoided interfering in Blackbeard's business and then turned around to immediately interfere. However. Something that could have changed the moment the door hit Stede on the way out is Jackie asking what exactly Izzy and Stede discussed... and realizing "Ohhhh wait Izzy wants this dude dead. We're cool. Kill him."

"Well maybe Jackie is just doing her own thing," you suggest. "Playing whatever side. Trying not to directly antagonize Blackbeard but she doesn't actually give a shit?"

Well that would be plausible, EXCEPT! Skip ahead! Izzy goes straight to Jackie after getting kicked off the boat. She's ordering him a drink and ready to hear his proposition immediately. They talk offscreen. They summon Badminton to her bar. So two things to point out here:

If Jackie was taking a "play nice with Blackbeard in public" stance then what the hell is she doing this for? I maintain the plan was under the table and had minimal risk from the British, but I think there was fairly high risk of Edward finding out. She doesn't get much out of this besides Stede dead, and while she bears a grudge idk if it was a "kill Blackbeard's new boyfriend and hope he doesn't get pissed about it" grudge. But if Izzy being all upset about this is a genuine point in the plan's favor on its own...?

Izzy spends his whole goddamn visit bemoaning his relationship woes. And Jackie sits there and listens! Do we think she can't shut Izzy up? Or make a quip about it to poke fun at Izzy? Nah, Jackie is fulfilling the sacred and time-honored role of bestie who listens to everything Stede has done and solemnly declares "That bitch" even when Izzy is being objectively way too dramatic about this. She also probably advocates for dumping Edward.

I lied. 3 things. Jackie invites Badminton and his navy guys to her bar. She doesn't like them, she's probably only doing this because she gets to hold something over them... again, this is so much just for Stede since she has the least investment in his death. But if Izzy needs her to do him a solid and she actually likes him enough to care? Makes sense.

Izzy obviously gets Jackie in the divorce and she's the one supplying both a steady stream of breakup booze and alternating grounded and truly unhinged advice. She's the shoulder of solidarity. The Evelyn to his Mary. I will be taking zero notes on this because I'm right 😌

i admit i sometimes get weirdly fixated on small details in works of fiction, that doesn’t really matter (like that time i was stressed about the system of governance in an anime gacha game)

and just so you know i’ll be the 1st one to scream about “suspension of disbelief” and cheer for “the rule of cool”, and so i swear i won’t talk about this again

but i realized that i don’t really know and have very little visual reference on how you would fully bandage a hand, with each finger etc and so i went looking

and i guess points to MC for finding what seems like the least convenient way to cover your hands if you aim to prevent skin to skin contact, but the most dramatic one for sure

well I for one can definitely appreciate the diehard commitment to the aesthetic as a canon character trait

i like to play survival horror games like resident evil (and to some degree classic DOOM which is very scary with the keyboard only controls and original software rendering but that's a whole other deal) with cheats and god mode and infinite ammo and it's wonderful how well most of these games transition from being pee pants scary games where you have scarce resources to these over the top action games with goofy plot and cutscenes that you cannot take seriously if you really tried because there's cutscenes like one in re4 where leon hits a blinker and it does that silly fucking fisheye on his face. god i love those games
