Sleepless Nights Get More Done: A Fallen Hero Playlist
Tumblr media
I lived and breathed this playlist for a long time. These are only the songs I conglomerated together while working on the Retribution guide to get me by in the dead of night. In the order that I had added them, over a period of 9 months. You can see the cutoff point, when I was made to think of The Void (just listen, you may understand). It's an interesting reflection for me on where my thoughts were at; I certainly found something special to express about self confidence, and the Outside scar. During this time is also when I finally named my MC Wicke. Shamelessly after John Wick. And also Citizen ("There isn't any miracle... I'm leaving. These are my last lines. Farewell to you, my unknown, to whom, when I came down with 'soul', I revealed all of myself, right down to the last pulverized screw, the last busted spring... I'm leaving.")
I've listed all below. Most having meaningful connection for me, some are just series vibes. I actually removed a few I later decided had no real significance. Snatched a few from other playlists.

My orientation is like my music taste in the sense that is is absolutely not niche or obscure by any means to anybody who has any knowledge of the topic beyond surface level but is just alternative enough for me to feel like an entirely different species around anyone who has never experienced being a social outcast. My top artist in 2023 was fucking Green Day

I'd probably have to read the printed version and web version back to back at some point to note all the differences but... ough
#sorry i'm going to be excited about this comic for the next month#nofna#okay having finished this now--#and sorry if this doesn't make sense to anyone who's completely unfamiliar with this comic in advance-#the 'popcorn ending' (printed version) is nice to see but i think the web version hits harder. if that makes sense#so i'm kinda tied on which ending i 'prefer'- i think both are good though#also considering i've read the web version a good 4-5 times and the printed version only once- i probably can't make that judgement yet#easy answer- i do like Nutsedge :] so it's nice to see the ending where nothing bad happens to her#but also- NT suddenly becoming a greenie-esque villain out of nowhere felt a little jarring#as well as SV suddenly turning a corner and becoming a 'good guy' (arguable)- considering the first three books are about#/him being too stubborn to change or accept any outside worldviews . Him suddenly coming to his senses felt out of place#<- probably biased because i like characters being bitter to the end and ultimately destroyed by their own hubris#the web version is probably‚ objectively‚ a bit better#but -#(spoilers- if you're planning to drop ~70 bucks on getting these books)#the conceit of SV actually perfecting his style‚ using it once‚ and then immediately getting tooth-brained- was pretty cool#assuming it's meant to parallel him spending months tormented by trying to perfect it while something's still missing-#and then dying before he can narrate it to the audience‚ so that we never know what he figured out.#hard to articulate these thoughts but tl;dr- popcorn ending also had a lot to think about

Thinking about how many people Hannibal would have to kill to cater his and Will's wedding reception. Like, he'd take out a whole orchestra bc he thought they played Music for 18 Musicians too quickly. Or the entire staff of a grocery store that ran out of fresh tarragon. Or every single person who laughed at them in middle school.

there is something about jfj referencing the rubicon in ep 1 seemingly completely unaware of the fact caesar was marching on rome. like "crossing the rubicon" is typically used to mean crossing the point of no return to a degree that does not seem at all appropriate to the story fitzjames is telling. and in the first place that serves jfj's general characterization in the scene as somewhat self-congratulatory and vapid (said lovingly). but beyond that i do find it interesting as possibly representing a general naivety about the reality of what an empire is and what is costs. and specifically of what it costs its own.

I've been thinking about Terror character/actor accents and origins again today and I'd love to hear some non-British/otherwise outside perspectives on the subject at some point - might even attempt to make a poll about it.
I'm just curious!
Do you find the different accents in the show difficult to understand at any point? Are some more challenging than others? Do you think having more context on different character accents and origins would change anything about your understanding/interpretations of the show and the relationships within it?

One of the best things about the star wars universe is that pretty much any unexplained circumstance or continuity issue can be explained by "the force does what it wants."
I just rewatched Revenge of the Sith and the Kenobi series and some things bothered me until I thought, "the force did it." It's there in the script why Obi-Wan couldn't kill Anakin, but why did he leave Anakin to burn to death instead of trying to save him? The force told him Anakin would use the last of his own power to kill Obi-Wan if he tried and that was the only outcome - he literally couldn't save him, all he could do was walk away. Why do force-wielding characters often use the force for some things but not others? The force requires a certain amount of concentration and charge, you can expend yourself quickly. Pull the decoy ship back to ground but powerless to stop the real one two seconds later bc you overreached. Drag a man through fire but can't stop him being carried away from it bc you exhausted yourself (plus you hate sand) and the fire might have just distracted you too. Etc.
