A gifset for Waverider, the last book in my favorite book series The Amulet. This series has meant a lot to me for the past 15 years, and I both can and can't believe it's coming to an end. What a journey it has been!
Thank you Kazu Kibuishi, for this wonderful story. One I will forever hold close to my heart.^^
[A video is attached. Thankfully, the telltale Void glitching around the frame is replaced with the usual purple static from Ikol's power. Brendan's showing Emily around Route 102 when a young boy from afar spots them and shouts at them.
"If you have Pokemon with you, then you're an official Pokemon trainer! You can't say no to-- WHAT IS THAT?!"
Brendan bursts out laughing, and Emily sighs and rubs her forehead. "'That' would be Ikol, and no he is not a Pokemon."
"Much appreciated, Emily."
"Anyway. Do we have to fight?"
"Uh--" The boy scrambles to regain his composure. "Y-Yeah! You can't say no to my challenge, as I was saying!"
"Seems kinda... forceful," Emily mutters.
"Nah, this is just how trainer etiquette is."
"Exactly!" the boy exclaims. "What he said! My name's Calvin, and we won't take no for an answer-- Go, Poochyena!"
The video ends as a Poochyena is sent out against Phoenix.]
I don't want to be mean, but that was really easy. Also, Phoenix... learned a new move?
yeah, Focus Energy! i. actually forget what it does hold on-
I guess that my main problem with Waverider is that it is very clearly an attempt at writing a poetic story, but Amulet is not a poetic series.
Don't get me wrong, it could very well be poetic, the ideas and themes are right there, but the other books are not written poetically, or even with a poetic afterthought. The poetic element was extremely out of left-field, and while it was nice, it was just badly built up and kinda out of character.
Also Emily Hayes would not be that emotionally intelligent.
Started reading Amulet 9 last night. I'm about half way through right now. And . . . Hm.
I think I'm starting to understand why the other Amulet fans seem to not be happy with the book from what little I've seen.
Cause like, that scene with Ikol and his masters??? WHAT??? Ikol being a program and the masters being robots is just so dumb. SO dumb. And it doesn't even really make sense?? Ikol is very clearly a spirit of some kind. And the masters always seemed to be implied to be some kind of super dimensional beings to me. And just. Even the shadows don't make sense in this context. They're supposed to be advance scouts but if the masters are ROBOTS from EARTH- Do I even need to explain why that doesn't make sense???
I'll keep going though. I'm mostly interested in Trellis' side of things anyway. If you've read the book already, please no spoilers! Thanks! :)
