Oh stars. I just read Martha Wells' most recent interview with Gizmodo and I KNEW System Collapse was going to be a rough ride but uhhhhh I'm so not ready for it lmao.

From the synopsis of System Collapse:

But there’s something wrong with Murderbot; it isn’t running within normal operational parameters. ART’s crew and the humans from Preservation are [...] going to have to hope Murderbot figures out what’s wrong with itself, and fast!

And between this interview quote:

“System Collapse takes place a few days after Network Effect,” Wells said. “And Murderbot is dealing with a lot of the repercussions of that novel, emotionally and, to some extent, physically.”

And:

“It hit me, finally, what the missing piece was. This book is really about Murderbot dealing with the really traumatic experience of Network Effect…

I'm going to have to do some serious prep for emotional damages lmao. Like I was really hoping for SC to at least touch on the trauma of NE and that said trauma would be affecting the main plot... but I wasn't expecting too much more than that because it's rare, in my experience, for writers (of books or shows) to spend more than a moment or two on past narrative traumas. But this very much sounds like the book is going to be centered around that trauma and I'm not.... ready for that.

I really should have been expecting this though because I've already discussed the possible implications of the title itself: System Collapse. As in, an emotional collapse. A breakdown.

But it's very different to have it confirmed that yes, Murderbot is good to be dealing with the emotional fallout of the very traumatic events of the previous book and yes said fallout is going to be central to the entire book.
