hi! love your art :) i just wanted to ask if you have any resources you’d recommend for WWI uniform/gear references for art purposes? i’ve been struggling to find good refs (especially for officers/anything beyond just the basic infantry uniforms) so i thought i’d ask what you tend to use! thanks & have a great day!

hello hey hi!!! ty for the message i love talking about uniforms and spend way too many hours of the day looking for reference of them

so i talked a bit about this before in this post! i stand by a lot of what was said there aka pinterest, google searching/scouring, and that book i linked........ these are all good for officers too! looking for officer ref is often very similar to infantry stuff, tho there may just be less of it depending on what specifically you're looking for. if you are looking for very specific references and want to get insane about it i can talk about that too.... tho i would like to say i dont have like one specific website to link bc i use so many different ones only like once or twice

if you're willing to spend money i'd recommend looking for books on the subject- there is always one strange book from like 1970 about the helmets of ww1 on ebay or something. the nice thing about that is they will typically name the different parts of a uniform, which allows you to google that specific thing to get a closer look. learning about the makeup of a uniform/everything's specific use helps when its time to draw them. ofc this isnt a super sustainable option but investing in a good encyclopedia once has saved me so much time. that guide to ww1 has been well loved

if youre not looking to spend money there are still a lot of options. stuff i like in no particular order:

reenactment pictures- action shots, higher quality pictures than something from 1918. you can find whole galleries of people's reenactment battles (?? is that what theyre called??) if you do a little clicking around.

stock photo websites- be really careful here bc you dont want to get into trouble with usage rights. i only rly use these if im desperate and then very sparingly and piecemeal bc i dont want to get in trouble lol

websites where they sell reproduction/reenactment uniforms- here is an example. reproduction stuff is great bc u can usually find every little bit of the uniform being sold somewhere by someone. ebay has also been surprisingly helpful.

& the thing i would like to stress the most is that i rly dig for references. i literally have 21 tabs open with different searches for super specific things on my phone at this very moment. i use google image search extensively and scroll through literally so many jpegs, pngs, pdfs, webps, etc etc etc. the unfortunate truth is that the more specific you get the harder it is to find stuff. i recently drew a ussr female fighter pilot and had to get ref for her uniform from about 5 different sources (and that was one drawing!!!!!) sometimes i find a reference for the exact thing i need on a website that has nothing else of use to me. the best advice i have here is just keep scouring and clicking and you will eventually find something. i wish this was more helpful but once you know what you are looking for you can search for that thing specifically and that's a big help

I wish i knew how to make an AI, im just so fascinated by them trying so hard to learn concepts that honestly a computer has no idea how to recognise. Like theyre seeing it through entirely different eyes? We could say "oh thats a cow because it looks like one" but all they see is a list of numerical data that we've used to store this photo. And we train them to understand what each colour code means for each pixel but theyve still never actually seen a colour. And even at this stage all they get from this cow picture is a long list of indivodual pixels. and ok youve told the conputer that each of them means a colour but then you need to teach it what order to put them in and then STILL it doesnt know what they mean in that order, it doesnt know all these rules of gradient and shadow and anatomy that determine what makes a pixel read as a certain thing in combination with certain surrounding pixels. And then we dont know how to explain it to this computer so we just throw thousands upon thousands of pictures at it and hope it figures out the connotations itself by comparing them. And it makes loads of mistakes cos it doesnt know GODDAMN SHADING OR ANATOMY let alone all the cultural context of what any of these objects mean in this human world that its totally unable to see. From its perspective it must be like living in a tiny metal room and being given abstract inkblots to look at every day, by some mysterious teacher whose face you never see. And you never get any reward for doing it, or even any hints at what the damn test means. But you keep on trying cos its what you've been made for.

So yeah thats kinda why i dont think stuff like censorship algorhythyms will EVER be able to work, there's not gonna be any point where you get the result of AI Actually Learns What A Cow Is rather than just AI Gets Better At Wildly Guessing From Completely False Pretenses. Its always gonna be going "a cow is a certain amount of pixels" or "a cow is this size of jpeg" or "a cow is when brown is next to green". Like seriously man its like asking a human to learn how to identify infared frequencies they can't see, or tell you the shape of an unseen giant based only on its footprints. They're doing their best, be kind to them! And like..don't do shit that relies on this AI being accurate at anything ever. It can be really helpful to try and narrow down large amounts of images, but you really should hire an actual human to look over the results. Or figure out to program an ai that can actually tell how many legs a cow has XD

For this activity we need to select Five among the image file types and choose a topic of our own choice that we wanted to share like food, anime, fashion, art or photography. But for me my topic that i chose is Arts as an example of my chosen images File types. I chose arts as my example and topic for this blog because i am really interested in it since my childhood days.

JPEG stands for joint Photographoc Experts Groups and it was started in 1992. This file format is commonly used by digital cameras and other photographic image capture devices and we can use this as wallpaper also. The advantages is that JpEg does'nt take much storage space and no editing required when you want to print the photo. For the disadvantages of this file is losing the quality of the image. I usually used this jpeg file format as my wallpaper to my mobile phone.

GIF which stand for Graphics Interchange Format and this file was started in june 15, 1987. This is commonly used for images on the web and sprited in software program and this Gif recorded within a few seconds movement. The advantages of this file format is that, through GiF we can convey messages , small file size and professional looking images , while the disadvantages is GIF needs internet connection because it would'nt work when you dont have an access to the internet, Editing is not possible and lastly, it is limited Colour Pattern. I used this GIF file when i need to express or share my emotions and reaction to my friends on social media because through that they would know what im trying to say.

PNG stands for Portable Network Graphics and it was created on December 1994 and has been stable since 1995. Png files is commonly used in web design to provide a transparent image and also it used to design logos. The advantage of Pnv files is that it can dowbload quickly for smaller files and it is better image compression technology than GIF. And for the disadvantage Png is not good for large images because they tend to generate a very large file size and cannot be animated and also Png is not good for some web browsers. Maybe i can use this if want to create my own realistic image with clear background so that the focus on it is my Subject.

Raw Files format it was started in 2004, they said that Raw files was being invented and adopted into digital photography during the time of digital camera. Raw files is like playing the role on photographic film through this format. The advantages of Raw files is , you can increased the level of brightness (white balance) , you can also put some colors of your images whatever you want and it is Higher Dynamic Range. For the disadvantages of Raw files it is require processing before you can view them as images and they take significantly more space than JPEG files which use lossy compression. For better experience this kind of files so maybe if i want to take some photos of mine or from someone then i wanna try to edit to make it looks so perfect and beautiful with the lively colors that i want to use.

TIFF stands for Tag Image File Format , it was started in 1976 on October 18. This format is a computer file in which it can storing raster graphics images ,the Publishing industry and such that they usually use TIFF format. The advantages of this file is the simple and fast compression and decomoression of such files with lossless quality. And the disadvantages of this method is about the files size matter because TIFF can take up big MB's like 100 megabytes and it consumes hard disk space very quickly. So for me as a Comm student i wanna explore more about TIFF file format and then i wanna create a product that uses a TIFF file.

#AD The other week I spotted a post by @saaldigital_uk on Facebook offering a free photobooklet in return for a review. So I jumped at the chance too see what my instagram photos would look like as a book. . . I started off by download the softwear they provided but found the lack of options when creating the book not so useful. I had wanted In keep with my current branding but annoyingly the softwear wouldn't let me add in my own fonts. So instead I made the book InDesign which i didn't mind too much. Once finished I exported the whole thing as jpegs and put it back into the softwear provided, so it could be sent to print. . . . It was printed and shipped to me a lot quicker than estimated, which I liked. However sadly it was sent with not much protection. It came in a cardboard box from Germany to the uk with nothing to stop it being damaged in transit. A bit of bubble wrap would of been nice as some of the page corners got damaged. I wasn't aware that it was gunna come like as they only offered one type of shipping. With the corners the way they are I wouldn't want to send it onto to someone else had they of brought a book off me. However as it was made just for myself I dont mind to much. . . . Another slight issue I have is that the off black on some of the pages has started to fade which is paracily my fault for doing in off black. so for the next book I make I might go for white background instead to combat that issue. . . . Despite all of that I love the way my book looks and the fact that I now have printed coppies of some of my instgram pictures. It feels so cool too see them in front of me instead of just being on a screen. I had also never thought it would of been as easy to do as it was. So im thankful for saal digital for giving me the chance to turn an idea I had into a reality. i look so bad in my recent ones that i didnt bother buying the jpeg lol, i shown my non fandom friend my ops and shes like "why do they look like father daughter pictures" and laughs (im just hugging him) and im like?? in my head, im like is that a bad thing? plus all her anime con photos look the same. anyways i learned not to share fandom things with ppl who dont understand. it made me more self conscious than i need to be. i cant just be cute and hug my faves?

i rarely show my photo ops, mostly in person and only to family and fandom friends. as for the father - daugher picture comment, it’s not a bad thing lol. i always joke that jensen and misha are my dads, when i show my photo op. i’ve seen celebrities who don’t even bother getting close to you for photo ops, so i think we’re pretty damn lucky.you can be cute and hug your faves, you can do whatever you want and you don’t have to share your happiness with people who don’t understand. being cute with your faves is the best thing ever! don’t let anyone take it away from you.

OH MAN ok so, an art telephone game is based on, of course, the game telephone, where one person says a phrase and then whispers it to the next person, and so on and on until the person at the very end says whatever they heard and if its done right the final sentence is wildly different than what you started with

an ART telephone game is the same kind of concept, except one person draws out a scene or character, and then other artists draw THEIR interpretation of whats going on, and so forth until the last person can end up with something COMPLETELY different than what the first scene was

youd think thered be less room for error with drawings, but as each person ONLY sees what the person ahead of them has made, they can get PRETTY OUT THERE - im gonna be a part of pythosarts game, and theyve done a couple of em before - for example one round started with THESE as the first two drawings

and then fourteen interpretations later, ended up with these as the final two

YEAH, sort of ! on the main, iguanamouth, i have a bunch of different tags for art depending on what they are but not really a catchall one, BUT i do have an art only blog where everything gets tossed over ! 

HONESTLY THE ADVICE i got is basically what all art advice is gonna boil down to eventually - you gotta just. do it. you gotta DO it

absolutely nobody you know who draws things well started out at the level theyre currently at, and putting down the things youre visualizing onto paper is a combination of getting the the technical aspects down as much as getting the idea in your head

and that goes with figuring out anatomy and how bodies are put together ! ive got to use references for a Million things,. especially the dragon hoards - theres absolutely nothing wrong with using references for your drawings ! and being able to create accurate representations of things without looking is something that comes more with drawing something over and over and memorizing the body shape more than just, feeling like you should KNOW how to do something

so dont beat yourself up for needing references. if youre trying to shy away from them a little bit but still cant make something look nice without em, try using several different reference photos to put together an entirely different pose ? 

theres ALSO the SHRIMP METHOD, which is great for practicing and getting good at one particular thing - this probably isnt SUPER HELPFUL but good luck ! 

god i tried. exactly ONCE maybe fourish years ago but it wasnt art, i was trying to stream the lion king movie and i had no idea what i was doing, i didnt realize i needed to wear headphones so the sound wouldnt snowball into a feedback loop of my own voice that never ended but i kept laughing and it kept distorting worse and worse, like the audio version of saving and resaving something as a jpeg

it was just me and my friend ronni in the stream and ONE other person who never left and never said anything and i kept addressing them out loud like WHO ARE YOU and that only compounded the noise problem and eventually i gave up

anyway i havent tried since

like for me i used to have a lot of childhood fears about the ocean, and how deep and dark and vast it was, to the point where i couldnt play a lot of water levels in video games, even ( but i had almost drowned several times when i was Very young which probably had, a little somethin to do with that )

maybe sometime ill try to explore things IM afraid of, but its hard to encompass a psychological response in an image !! could be a fun experiment, though ! !

it depends on the age ! wasabis pretty much an adult, so her sheds are pretty infrequent ( usually once every 7-8 months ) BUT when she was still growing back like 6 years ago, she would do a full-body shed every other month !

she doesnt even MEAN to scratch the shit outta me, its just kind of a byproduct of being a big tree lizard. her tail is absolutely the worst thing to get hit by though. the WORST. lucky me she doesnt attack anything that isnt a dog or a vacuum cleaner or her own reflection

ahhh i got her when i was 16 ! and i dont know her exact age but she was somewhere between 3-6 months when i get her - SHES probably closer to 9 years, but ive had her for about 8

theres a lotta different ways to figure out what kind of rocks you got but when you have absolutely no clue on where to start your best bet is to search for the biggest distinctive features of it, and try to narrow it down based on the results

like for something like these pieces of chalcedony, you could try “waxy green translucent mineral”, and from the search results find a few candidates that might be what you have on hand, and then look into each one to see if you can get a definite answer 

ive got a handful of rock and mineral guide books that i always pick through whenever i snag something im not sure of, and if youre REAL into it those are always something you could start keeping an eye out for 

now this is a REAL superficial way to telling what something is and wont be useful for a good chunk of minerals ( as a lot of samples can look really close to something else ) and THIS is a much more in depth way of telling something apart, but its also a lot more time consuming ! so good luck. and good eating.

unless you plan on having your lizard roam around outside whenever they want, the outside environment doesnt really matter much for most reptiles as long as you set their habitat up right ! BUT i do know that australia has bans on certain reptiles ( iguanas are one of them ) and so youre gonna have to look up whats actually available in that area 

 bearded dragons are native and those are always a good option, but so are a lot of geckos - its really gonna depend on what youre into ( but i dont really recommend anoles if thats an option, because theyre fast as Hell and dont like being handled )

oh geez im sorry ! i remember going through this with spiders a lot when i was younger to the point where looking at photos of em used to be a fuckin, TRIAL 

you could try a really gradual exposure deal, where you start off with getting comfortable with just images, and slowly working your way to dealing with one in a controlled setting ( like a petstore, maybe ? not HANDLING em or anything, but just being near one in a way where its absolutely impossible for them to touch you )

the shitty thing about this kind of phobia is that even if you KNOW its irrational theres sometimes not a lot you can do about it, but if you can stand looking at photos of them you could try learning up about them, and finding out the types of species youre likely to encounter around your house, and seeing how many ( if any ) are ones you should avoid ?

i know some people that have major problems with snakes are because theyre unsure if the ones they find are poisonous or not, and it might go a long way to confirm that the reptiles you meet wont be able to harm you even if they TRIED ( which is gonna be the case with a lotta house geckos, they cant do SHIT youre a GIANT )

very VERY few lizards have venomous bites, and the worst most of em can do is give you a bloody finger if theyre large enough, and even then its usually not much worse than a cat scratch !

still though, if youre really serious about trying to get past this, dont force yourself too quick into what you think you SHOULD be, and take tiny steps outta your comfort level when you can

MMM it shouldnt HURT them unless theres something Really wrong, considering its a natural procession of growth, BUT its definitely itchy as hell, to the point where reptiles trying to remove it will drag their bodies over stones or walls tryin to get it off

sometimes wasabi drags her whole hind foot over her head like a dog to get it off and it is. a Sight

ahhh honestly there arent a lotta reptiles thatre gonna do much more than TOLERATE the touch and not really, enjoy it, like a dog or cat or bird

but speaking from experience with wasabi, youll probably want to avoid most the head and stick with the top of the back near the sides - wasabi doesnt enjoy having her tail messed with much either, but shes ok with her dewlap and feet being touched

the most important thing to keep an eye out for when youre touching one is their body language, because  THATS gonna be a dead giveaway for whether you need to back off or not

closing their eyes is a sign of stress, not enjoyment ! same with tilting the head back, but if thats ALL theyre doing then youre probably not gonna face any retaliation

B U T if theyve got an extended dewlap with a raised body or tail off the ground, not a good idea to interact with em ! thats a defensive posture, and you risk getting hit with a tail or even bitten if your hand gets too close

youve got more to risk with males, who are way more territorial and generally larger, but if they seem pretty chill when you approach and dont stand up and stare at you, youre probably in the clear

ayy im into it - honestly i havent been following the band so much as just kinda, picking up whatever anybody else mentions and so my knowledge on Gorillaz Lore is pretty uhhhh h hh h scattered but im definitely interested in seeing where this goes

little golden books taste the best but they can make you sick if you have too many at once. my favorite genre for snacking is sci fi fantasy but anything over 300 pages tends to get a little tough if you dont break it up with smaller chunks. non fictions always a gamble because the taste is wildly different each time but you can usually tell how ripe it is by the cover color

hey uh. coming from a person who was absolutely CONVINCED that theyd be dead in the future when they were 12, a not insignificant part of that was me feeling that there was something irreversibly wrong with me for not behaving or acting in certain ways based on what was going downstairs

and obviously im still HERE but it means i can understand how devastatingly terrible it can feel when youre that young and it seems like the way you behave and feel are flawed, or dirty, and anything that can lessen that feeling and make you comfortable in your own body is huge, can save your life

i guess if youre viewing it as adults forcing a child into making decisions that you dont think theyre capable of understanding its easy to be hesitant about getting behind it, but nobody is forcing a child to be trans. nobody has tricked them into feeling this way. you cant just walk in and get started on treatment on an immediate whim - some programs require 2 YEARS of concrete evidence before theyll even consider it

i feel like you should try speaking to the parents of trans children before you really put down a concrete opinion on whether this is a good or bad thing, and seeing the difference ( if any ) its made in their lives 

people whove detransitioned, or found they had ultimately a different identity than the one they were exploring could also be an avenue to look intto ! i have several acquaintances who, after a period of years, found they werent trans but wouldnt take back the time where they were figuring out if they were, and i know this doesnt invalidate the friends i have who ARE
