avi jones is definitely a nervous laugher, so tbh i think the most likely thing to make them laugh Every single time is being put in awkward situation where they don't know what else to do. also, the more likely they are to be caught completely off-guard by a joke, the more likely they are to laugh at it- much more than if they were expecting it in any possible way

What’s their instinct in a fight / flight / freeze / fawn situation?

the boring but true answer is "it depends" - growing up, their immediate instinct was always Fawn, but that's a habit they've worked really hard to kill.

when attempting to confront a personal issue, they'll pretty much always default to Flight; they are Very good at running away from and ignoring the ugly truths they don't want to recognize.

however, when confronted with an Actual Life Threatening Emergency, such as An Actual Monster Is Attacking Them (monster of the week, my beloved ttrpg), all their usual anxiety and caution goes straight out the window and their default impulse is Fight. There is a danger, they are qualified to handle it, by god, they're gonna be Useful even if it kills them. they rush headfirst into danger and only panic later when they realize how stupid it was.

this is funny because nowadays at like, 26 years old, they're the most straitlaced put-together-acting nerd who never goes out and has only attended awkward office holiday parties, so most people would be surprised to hear about the very non-hypothetical drug possession charges they had back in college OOPS. if you asked them about it now they'd say something like haha well everyone got a little crazy in college but the real answer is they were like, having a devastating mental breakdown with zero actual coping mechanisms in place. its okay they got better (they don't think they need therapy but they desperately do)

ooh this is interesting. i think gentle love. they're bad at expressing themself directly but a little gesture means a lot to them- when they care they'll remember your coffee order, finish up a task for you without telling you because they know you're stressed, make sure to have the kind of snacks you like in stock. they've gotten enough shit over time under the guise of "tough love" that they shy away and would rather offer the "i'm here if you need me" kind of love, and they'd probably want the same in return. sometimes they need someone who can be hard on them, but that person has to know the right time to not risk scaring them off, y'know?

yet he doesn't seem to hesitate to risk his life, doing it willingly even, like in the final victor light cone where it was down right unnecessary

sorry pal but no sane man would do that, it's almost like he craves to 'lose' one of these gambles, like dying would be a kind of victory in and of itself.

and in a way, taking his backstory into consideration, it does kind of make sense...? he doesn't have anything to live for other than being the sole survivor of the massacre. he was bought as a slave because he was lucky enough to survive. he climbed the ranks because he was lucky enough to win the bets he made, the bets he made in hopes of regaining his freedom. but at some point it wasn't about regaining his freedom anymore. even as one of the stonehearts, all he is is a chip for the ipc. and he's accepted it.

he cant get out of the system (unless he dies) and he's accepted that he's just a tool. it's even mentioned in his first meeting voiceline.

he's a coward in his own way to me. i think the majority can agree that this man is suicidal (HE FUCKING ATTEMPTED MULTIPLE TIMES JUST TO 'CHECK' IF YOU COULD ACTUALLY DIE IN THE DREAMSCAPE WTF??) but he's suicidal in the way that although he does want to end his life, he's too scared to do it directly by his own hands.

but also perhaps it's not just fear. as the only avgin left he also feels the burden of making sure his people don't just 'go extinct' (for lack of a better word). his family put so much faith in him before they left. would it really be ok for him to give up like that?

HE'S LITERALLY KILLED PEOPLE BOTH WITH HIS BARE HANDS AND WITH WEAPONS. THIS MAN IS A SCRUFFY OUTDOORSMAN WHO'S LIKE 6'0" AND MAYBE NOT BUILT BUT DEFINITELY NOT SCRAWNY AND IN NEED OF PROTECTING. I think a lot of people get caught up in the fact that Will Graham is played by Hugh Dancy and he was very much a "pretty boy" character in a lot of stuff before he played Will Graham and this is also exacerbated by Hannibal being played by Mads Mikkelsen who is "slightly taller rugged silver fox European man who is going to fix my daddy issues" and since Will and Hannibal are the main couple a lot of people are like "well they can't both be big tough top guys so obviously it's the guy who's slightly bigger and buffer and older"

Will Graham is a 38 year old FBI criminal profiler who has killed dangerous people with his bare hands, went to prison for some time, masterfully manipulated others, also hunts and fishes, and he's like very good at reading people and their motivations. Incredibly smart everyday man.

Sweet JESUS sometimes the fandom makes him out to be more of a helpless puppy than he really is. Granted, even if he has his moments of mental vulnerability, it's never treated as weak by the show.
