can't believe i read someone being annoyed that the characters went to sleep after the battle at the end of iron fl.ame

clearly they're lucky enough that they've never been exhausted enough to just sweep everything off their bed and fall into it

several people neared burnout (that we know of, there were probably plenty more!!), to the point where standing was a challenge. everyone is injured and aching and tired to some degree (we know it takes a lot of strength to stay on a dragons back, how many people dismounted and found they were wobbling? sea legs?? marathon level aches?!). then there's the mental toll, not just the stress but the tiredness that comes from literally just using your brain intensely.

AND they had hours and hours to stew about what was coming, how much sleep do you really think people got? and what do you think the quality was like? i bet a lot of people also had no strings attached sex that night to a. live before they might die, and b. literally just try and help them sleep before shit goes down.

and they want everyone to what??

have a meeting? tidy up? figure out their plans for the college immediately?

no one's brain is going to be working well enough to do anything important after that exertion. people are going to be falling asleep with food in their mouths, while having their wounds tended to, with some of their armour still on
