[just after having helped River make a getaway from a heist of an astatine lace shawl — the rarest substance in the universe — without her even needing to ask beyond a simple “hello sweetie” scrawl in the sky] [Eleventh Doctor] “I can see its worth — but Alice is right! What’s so special about a lace shawl?” [River] “Ah, well, lace, you see, is the traditional gift for a thirteenth wedding anniversary…” [Eleventh Doctor] “Wedding anniversary? Whose wedding anniversary?” [River] “Spoilers…!” *winks* [Thirteenth Doctor, reminiscing] “I love River.”

"-One day, you will linger in the same place too long. You will sit too still or sleep too deep. And when, too late, you rise to go, you will notice a second shadow next to yours. Your life will then be over." -12th Doctor (Peter Capaldi, Doctor Who)
This has been a 2 month project where I decided to do a bust study of the angry Scottish floof monster space grandad for my sculpting class.
I'll post a complete version soon, art class has been kicking my ass with assignments. 🫠

i finished troilus and cressida today and no wonder they call it a problem play. honestly what was that
#tales from diana#text post#shakespeare#troilus and cressida#i wont say i didnt like it or i was disappointed#but that was really quite strange and i dont know what to make of a lot of it#and ive read several of the problem plays before in fact a lot of them are my favorites. the winter's tale/all's well/etc.#t&c was very strange. it was like it wasn't even written by shakespeare. it doesnt bear a resemblance in character and plot style#the writing is certainly shakespeare and in that it is beautiful. beautiful.#the characters are very very opaque though. that's a word i found someone use when explaining why it's one of the more difficult plays#yeah they do not have a lot of internality. theyre honestly kind of flat? at least to read.#im sure it's different in performance. i watched the trailer for the 2019 rsc production and THAT looked great#shakespeare is normally so good at lending depth to even the most minor of characters#whereas the motivations for a lot of the t&c cast are either very simple or somewhat unclear. or both.#it's a play i'd not recommend for the plot#but as i do have this broader goal of finishing shakespeare's complete extant plays in my 20s. yeah that's one more down#that was number 23 of 38. i have 15 more to go.#at this point there aren't a lot of well-known or famous ones i still haven't read#by far the most famous one i still haven't read is othello. which might be scandalous to admit#and twelfth night and much ado about nothing. and titus andronicus.#im planning on knocking down some of those next but the thing is i already kinda do KNOW those plays#i just havent READ them. in full on my own.#but also i ordered this morning. a book ive been trying to get forever#three tragedies by renaissance women#including elizabeth cary's mariam#jane lumley's translation of iphigenia#and mary sidney's antonie! so i have that to look forward to#as well as. always. a neverending pile of plays i already own. to be read. very exciting#ive read 6 shakespeare plays this year (2023). that's the most i've read since 2018 the year i got the riverside shakespeare.#wonder if i wanna break that record? it's october. i have time to decide.

Okay i had this idea for some time. But i saw your post about wanting to practice writing Alastor. Can you do Alastor when he was alive? It’s the 1930s and he’s a radio host, i had this idea of reader being a female had to face female stereotypes still(i know in 1920s the 19th amendment was passed but women still had to face the aftermath), she wanted a job that only men could have. So what if Reader dresses as a boy, gets her dream job and ends up working alongside Alastor in his radio station. He doesn’t know that reader is a girl. I wanna leave the rest up to you! How does Alastor find out about reader being a girl and eventually probably falling in love? Like i can see Reader and Al being great friends at first. Im sorry this is long! But i want you to be creative!! You don’t have to do this if you don’t want to!
Inspired by the writing of Shakespeare, especially Twelfth Night
Tumblr media
You watched Alastor hard at work as always preparing the setlist for the night's show. You loved how he lit up whenever he was doing something relating to his radio show. He was so passionate and full of life. It was contagious and had you wanting a fill of this life as well. Thanks to Alastor, you developed your already-formed love for music into one that could rival his.
Your love for music made you want to try your hand at radio broadcasting. Unfortunately, most, if not all, stations only wanted to hire women as secretaries - to answer calls, fetch coffee, and be at the host's beck and call. There was no way you'd be able to learn the ropes properly like that. This led you to cut your hair shorter than a flapper's bob and purchase some slacks and men's button-ups before going to Alastor's studio in hopes of being his new apprentice.
A part of you was anxious that your disguise would fool no one. Your voice was still rather high-pitched as a young girl no matter how hard you tried to disguise it. You were afraid everything about you resembled that of a woman. You tried your hardest to play it off as though you weren't quite a man yet, but also not a boy anymore. You were in that in-between stage that was neither fully a boy nor fully a man.
Thankfully Alastor bought it. He liked your spark, or rather, "Sebastian's" spunk - the male persona you chose to create for yourself. He loved your taste in music and your willingness to learn the ropes. He hired you on the spot!
Months passed since that fateful day and you'd been able to get by with your ruse with hardly any issues. Alastor had even let you take over broadcasts from time to time!
There was one problem, as of late, however.
You seem to have fallen in love with your boss.
There was an attraction towards him when you first laid your eyes on him. It felt like he cleared all the bad stuff from the air that once trapped you. His spontaneity shined through all his performances. He was always unapologetically himself, which you respected. Then there was the softer side he rarely showed, such as when he interacted with his mother, whom you had the opportunity to meet and have lunch with when you ran into the pair in town. It was endearing to watch them interact, smiling fondly at how he'd comply with her requests.
How could you not love a man who knows how to treat his mother? If a man can only give a little bit of love to his mother, how much more will he be able to love when he falls deeply for a woman who truly captures his heart?
But you weren't a woman to him. You were Sebastian, his apprentice. Whatever bond you formed in the last several months you worked together was purely platonic.
The most you could do was pine for him, gaze longingly from afar, and sigh dreamily as you watched how he prepared for his next show. You've already gotten involved in this situation due to your sense of foolishness and staying because of your love, so you carried on.
The more you got to know him, the more you felt like a deer and your wants have been chasing you like mean, vicious dogs ever since.
----
Alastor did his best to keep busy with his setlist, distracting himself from the feelings he'd been struggling with for a while now. He couldn't explain them or felt he shouldn't since something like this was equated to catching a plague. Society shouldn't blame him for being weak, however. It's just how people were made. Women love, men love, and he knew if he was a woman, he'd love Sebastian.
He wouldn't deny it. Nothing else could describe what was happening to him as he admired everything about his apprentice. His words, expressions, movements, behavior, and energy drew him in like a moth to a flame.
Also, the intense dream he had the other night that involved Sebastian made his feelings especially clear.
He didn't want to recall too much of it while in the studio, but he couldn't forget about Seb's sweet voice beckoning him: "Al, we need to be careful and hide our love." Alastor had to keep himself from getting flustered as he remembered how he would hold Seb's hand tightly, call him sweet names, kiss him passionately as if he was pulling air out of him, put his leg over his, sigh and kiss him more, and then curse the fate that made them belong in the dark.
He really needed to get a hold of himself!
Especially since the night after that, he heartbreakingly discovered that Sebastian was already involved with someone else. He had followed him back to his apartment after a late night at the studio. Seb told him he needn't bother, but Alastor couldn't let him go alone. His strong desire pushed him to follow his sweet boy. It wasn't just love that made him follow him, but also worry about what could happen to him on the streets alone in the dark. The area could be an unfamiliar and possibly dangerous journey even for those who lived there.
Alastor's love for Sebastian, mixed with fear, made him decide to accompany him in the shadows.
How shocked he was to peer up into the window of the apartment. Seb lived on a semi-high floor, so Alastor didn't get a decent view. And yet, he knew what he saw.
A woman with a boyish haircut undressing and preparing for bed.

...i am interested in the thesis of that movie in particular...
👀👀👀
ahh oh my god!! okay So. i was an english major in college and im a huge Shakespeare nerd! my senior year i took a class called Shakespeare on Film and we read different plays and watched their movie versions. loved this class, loved the professor (she was also my advisor) and a paper we had to write for that class was taking another play that we hadn’t read in the class and the appropriate movie. I decided to go with She’s the Man because it’s based off Twelfth Night! the main thesis of the paper was gender and the different presentations in both the play and the movie.
then, i took that paper and expanded it to include comparisons from The Taming of the Shrew and 10 Things I Hate About You (i used to have major conversations with my professor about the actual “taming” in both the play and the movie adaptations bc i will still argue to this day that Katarina in the actual play is not actually tamed by the end, she just knows how to play the game) and still talked about more gender stuff in the thesis. it was an incredible paper and i had a lot of fun writing it!!

then i'm gonna watch and read game of thrones (dont judge me for not having read it yet. sigh.)
i also really wanna read realm breaker so im on the lookout for that :)

9 people to get to know better
thanks for tagging me @ghostradiodylan !!
1. Three ships: Rylan my beloved they do no wrong. theyre the epitome of awkward bashful and honest gay summer teen romance with the perfect contrasting note of horrific life threatening monsters which is unsurpassable genre peak. and yeah ngl its pretty rare that i get behind a ship but two others i can think of are amity/luz from the owl house (but mostly in season 1 because they do cute anxious crushing stuff and after that they just kind of turn into supportive gf A and supportive gf B), and legosi/louis from beastars because how do you just gloss over neurotic homophobe slut ptsd theatre twink x weird brooding puritan loser freudian pervert and the fact that it does WORK too like hello
2. First ever ship: i wanna say gregg and angus from night in the woods?? i remember i was in that weird sexual orientation puberty where you literally know you're gay but it's not like a consciously meaningful part of your identity so i remember seeing them and thinking wow that's cool that they're boyfriends i guess idk. also i'm inexorably drawn to their existence for some reason and my lockscreen is them cuddling with the lazy morning light peeking through the curtains
3. Last song: My Kink is Karma - Chappell Roan, im a sucker for moody electronic pop and that album DELIVERS
4. Last film: i watched the first three movies in a pirates of the caribbean marathon with some friends which ngl after the first one feels like trying to suck sugar water out of a sock 😶 the last film i personally chose to watch was the 1976 Carrie! it was nice being able to watch it and appreciate it as an adult with an education and not a teen recluse going "yeah carrie you show those villain highschoolers what's what"
5. Currently (re)reading: Shakespeare's Twelfth Night! i have my old copy from highschool open next to me and the 2012 shakespeare's globe production up and i just sit and sift between watching and reading and analysing it, just like when i first learned it in class. i'm not really sure why i wanted to reread it again in the first place, but i find it kind of soothing to read older texts where the language and culture's a little ways off from its modern successors. i find it calming to kind of pull those stories back in a way we can understand with its old contexts and writing, and see more and more of that timeless human experience shine through. sudoku for english nerds i guess LOL
6. Currently watching: my watcher's stamina has actually gotten so shit im ngl like i actually haven't watched a show in months 😭😭😭 the last show i watched was bluey (which was pretty good! (and pretty indicative of the kind of attention span ive got these days 😂👌))
7. Currently consuming: this horrible like nutraloaf nightmare bowl i made because my appetite was really poor today and at 5 pm or so i was like ugh well id better eat something quick and dense if im not gonna have a proper meal so i insulted God and put together reheated smashed potato (in the microwave so they lost all their crunch and flavour) + dried roasted edamame beans + peanut butter + regular butter + cheddar + yoghurt + whole salted almonds in a bowl and had a slice of walnut fig cake as a side. that thing needed a censor bar like i was in the trenches trying to get that down im ngl. eating that meal took more energy out of me than what it gave back like i knew i made something unholy and then immediately paid for it like it was so frankenstein and his monster right there on that kitchen counter
8. Currently craving: literally anything after that like god damn 😭😭😭😭😭 otherwise ive been hankering for a good chana masala and naan combo cus there's literally never a day where i'll turn south asian cuisine down like aw man i shouldve just gone out and got some of that to eat today ugh god damn it
also im ngl i don't really know who to tag cus i only started having a presence on tumblr like barely a month ago and ive only meaningfully interacted with like 3 people since then so um!! whoever's out there lurking around on my blog if ya wanna participate feel free! and either way, thanks for readin my ramblings regardless :)

im curious as to why you haven’t watched the originals fully. is it because of klaus’ arc since it takes a bit of a turn in the originals?
combination of factors-- mostly bad timing in that season 1 aired right as I was starting graduate school, so I didn't have a ton of time, and unfortunately for the originals, I had already watched 5x03 of tvd, laughed myself silly at the ancient greece angle, and checked out. that was the end of tvd as appointment television for me, and then with me being busy with school...
and the other big reason it's always hard to watch too much is that i am a new orleanian and the portrait of my home that show paints is... not it. it's also just so patently absurd that they are fighting over the french quarter. like, look, i like the quarter as much as anyone. but it's tiny. itty bitty. just one small neighborhood that is mostly fueled by the tourism industry and the show tends to present it like the quarter is the whole city. can you imagine a show set in nyc and it's about a bunch of vampires vying to be king of times square? i think the part where they ended up in algiers was one of my favorites because FINALLY we were leaving the vieux carré. also there are so many festivals and traditions in nola. why did the show make up bizarre random stuff and so much weird lore? when we love a reason to have a party. we still actually legitimately celebrate twelfth night. it's not hard to find an actual fun backdrop for shenanigans! and we are brimming with lore! weird supernatural lore! literally it's weird if you find a local who doesn't have a ghost story to tell. and there were things like episodes being titled things like 'river in reverse' that made me feel sick to my stomach, because the thing is, i grew up on stories about the times that had happened, the hurricanes and natural disasters that could cause something as huge and elemental as the mississippi river to to run backwards, and the death and trauma that had caused-- and there will always be a part of me that was fifteen when katrina happened, and the world ended, for a time, and i just wasn't sure how i felt about things that have such a soul gripping meaning to be used in some random episode without it seeming to even grasp the meaning of it, you know? so, basically, i know too much and the backdrop is hard for me to overlook. really, really, really hard. (although-- one of my close friends moved abroad to spain, and he told me he used to watch the originals late at night when he got homesick, because despite the absurdities, there are these glimmers, and i have felt a lot softer about the inaccuracies since this admission, because there is something there, it's true)
but all that being said, creole!klaus is the finest iteration of klaus there is. we will never top that look. having him wear like.... traditional 19th century new orleanian clothing did things to me.
and i did go back and watch a lot of season 2 at some point, and it really is a fun show, and marcel is still my favorite, so there is that-- and there are lots of really great things about the show, it's just hard for me to muddle through for a lot of reasons that don't even entirely have to do with the show itself
(but-- all of these reasons are also why i wrote about nola in fe. because i love it, and i think there is so much in the originals, and i couldn't leave it alone.)

you like the quarry?? omg hi!
what are your thoughts on the AtLA kids being put into The Quarry?? as an au, i mean
Oh omg yeah I like the quarry! I actually prefer Until Dawn slightly more but I’ve been waiting for the spiritual successor for like forever so this was great for me, I think it’s pretty fun & im a huge truther for a Dylan x Ryan x Kaitlyn throuple (I actually have a wip of them doing the Anne Hathaway twelfth night kiss) I know it’s kinda past it’s popularity rn but I had fun. Both games are definitely not without its problems tho, I definitely acknowledge that.
Actually this is unrelated but my private super indulgent wish would be for Supermassive to get rights to adapt IT into one of their horror movie esque games…. It’ll never happen but like i just think they would get the vision. Press x to clock this clown in the head with a baseball bat please
Anyway the subject…. Right I don’t have any thoughts on hand abt a fully in depth AU or anything mainly bc it’s been a hot sec since I watched my friends play the game. Tbh I’m generally a proponent of subjecting characters to goofy little horror scenarios forever tho. Tbf the kids from Atla deserve the biggest break in the universe but like, do they also not deserve to be cringefail camp counselors at a spooky werewolf camp?
I do think Mai could do Ryan tho. She listens to her grimdark true crime podcasts & speaks exclusively in monotone and Tai Lee goes full dylan and is like wow I am enamored by your autistic swag < 3
Feel free to continue to bug me if you have more thoughts on this tho
