what about the bus?
ps i know it doesn't snow in la but rn. imagine i does. also y/n speaks Spanish therefore the nicknames(i ain't spanish sorry if I get some wrong, pls comment if i did...)
Tumblr media
I've never ever ever done this before pls be nice...
pairing: vinnie x influencer!fem!y/n
genre: fluff
img creds: @writer-in-theory and tiktok
word count: 583
summary: it's winter and Vinnie brought y/n to the ice-skating rink. when they were done, Vinnie found out his car just got towed. y/n then suggested they go home by bus. but none of them realised they'd fall in love that night
"Babe, come on. I wanna go home!" Y/n said staring at the freezing, falling snow as Vinnie sat and stared at the tow truck that just drove away with his treasured car sitting on its back.
"but- What- I-""baby, we'll get it back tomorrow, i took a picture of the logo. we'll find it, i promise." Vinnie finally took his eyes of the car that was out of eyeshot almost 5 minutes ago.
"How else are we meant to go home? i mean we can take a cab or something." Vinnie whispered, sounding heartbroken. "aw baby... i love you, we'll get her back i promise. and, i saw a bus station about 2 minutes ahead soooo....."
"okay, i guess. thank you baby." his hazel eyes peaked with hope as he heard her voice before she kissed his cheek saying "no problem, angel boy"
the influencer couple walked 2 minutes down the street and just like y/n said, there was a bus stop there with 4 other people there. a woman working on her laptop, a man with his daughter who was a asleep on his shoulder and a boy who was probably just sitting there for shelter from the blistering cold.
Vinnie and y/n eyes either shifted from the eachother to the boy then the sleeping babygirl who clutched her father dearly. Both loved her little face.
Soon enough, the bus arrived and all 5 people hurried into the bus, buying their tickets before settling in their seats. vinnie and y/n decided on sitting near the back.
she took the window seat while Vinnie sat in the Isle seat. "that baby is adorable" Vinnie. simply stated taking his girlfriend's eyes off the steamed window and on to the baby that was previously sitting next to her boyfriend on the bus stop.
"agreed." y/n spoke with much love in her voice before glancing into her boyfriends eyes who was already staring into hers. "hi." y/n smiled into the lips of her lover. this is heaven she thought.
once they pulled apart, she giggled as they banged foreheads. you know the giggle that could make the saddest man in the world fall of his chairs because he was smiling like an idiot. or so Vinnie thought.
they both turned their heads to the window. y/n started drawing things on the steam of the window then turning around to pout at her querido(darling in spanish) because it disappeared. Vinnie easily made her frown into a smile by kissing her claiming it was impossible not to kiss her little button nose.
she giggle once more before feeling warmth creep on her back. she happily smiled and leaned into it letting herself sink into her boyfriend but watch as he drew on the window like she did before.
but, this time, the window was temporarily vandalised by words she hadn't heard him say to her before. Vinnie looked down at his girlfriend wondering if she was okay with the three letter everyone waits for in a relationship, 'i love you.'
she looked at him with wide eyes before she rushed to kiss seeing the creeping hurt in his eyes thinking she didn't feel the same. "i love you too, mi querido." she said into the kiss as he smiled and kissed her back. the two remained inseparable for the next week leaving their housesmates questioning them.
until one night, y/n sent the girls chat texts about the night.
thanks for reading besties <33333
hope you enjoyed
pls give me kind feedback <3
thank you xx

St Brigid of Kildare — The Feminist Muse
Tumblr media
1
From their home on the summit of the snow-capped Mount Helicon, the Nine Greek Muses whispered ideas into the ears of artists everywhere, inspiring their work and infusing them with creativity. But nearer sea level, in the modest fields of Kildare, lived another great Muse — a nun who went by the name Bríd, or Brigid; and if the Nine Muses were all archetypical independent women, none could have claimed to have fought for the rights of women with the vehemence of St Brigid. This is why her influence stays strong to this day.
St Brigid has been inspiring artists to create great works for over a millennium and a half, and nowhere is her influence more noticeable than in poetry. Poets around the world have written about this feminist saint, whose achievements included building a monastery for women, freeing young girls from sexual slavery, and even performing a God-granted abortion on one of her students. She is present in the works of children's poets and Nobel laureates alike, and she invariably shows up in a context supportive of women's rights and feminist activism.
Perhaps the most famous poet to include St Brigid in their writings is Seamus Heaney, who features the abbess in two of his poems. One of these, A Brigid's Girdle, he dedicated to his friend Prof. Adele Dalsimer, who was fighting a fatal illness. In it, he decides to weave a Brigid's girdle for Adele in order to give her the strength she needs and, symbolically, to empower women everywhere to fight against oppression — be it disease or society. He invokes St Brigid for her ability to overcome any obstacle and oppose restrictive authority:
Now it's St Brigid's Day and the first snowdrop
In County Wicklow, and this a Brigid's Girdle
I'm plaiting for you, an airy fairy hoop
(Like one of those old crinolines they'd trindle)
But Heaney is hardly the only one to appreciate St Brigid's independence. Another famous Irish poet, Brendan Kennelly, offers us a provocative picture of her in his translation of a 10th century poem, Saint Brigid's Prayer. This humble nun from Kildare is actually the patron saint of beer, and in Kennelly's poem we see her — in complete disregard of society's constructed constraints — drink, dance and sing with "the men, the women and God" by a "lake of beer", giving "a special welcome to the women". Kennelly — and the anonymous 1000-year-old poet, of course — subversively shows a female saint (whose religious status entails even greater societal pressure than most women have to put up with) acting with a traditionally male rowdiness, breaking out of the confines of conservative gender roles.
Tumblr media
2
St Brigid's inspirational influence reaches far beyond the coasts of Éirinn, of course. American poet Phyllis McGinley wrote the ode The Giveaway to her, in which she calls her "a problem child" who infuriated her parents because "She would give everything away" to those in need. She shifted the established balance of power and ignored the orders of (literally) patriarchal authorities in favour of those less fortunate:
Her father's gold,
Her grandsire's dinner,
She'd hand to cold
And hungry sinner;
The Australian hymn O Holy St. Brigid written and composed by Sr Clare Keady C. S. B., on the other hand, points out that St Brigid's love of the world came not from a submissive nature, as patriarchal elements might be wont to believe, but rather from her bravery and independence — asking her to "Kindle in us an unquenchable fire/Teach us to love with your courage and confidence". St Brigid's 5th-century feminism really has conquered the world — an impressive feat for an unprivileged nun from the countryside.
While famous internationally, St Brigid's rural origin has also made her a particularly important influence on local poets. Over a century ago, Kildare writer and poet Teresa Brayton wrote the poem St. Brigid which consists largely of praise for the nun's feminism and identifies humanity — or at the very least, womanhood — with 'her race':
O Brigid, so high and holy!
So strong in womanly grace,
Look down from the sills of Heaven
Today on your olden race.
Another poet from Kildare, Patrick McCormack, published the poem Feast of St. Brigid in the newspaper Leinster Leader (during World War II, no less) in which he makes her the defender of the entire country, elevating her above the national army in a symbolic triumph of Woman over patriarchy:
Oh dear St. Brigid hear our call,
And guard our native isle,
In olden days you spread the light
Of love o’er the soil,
He also points out her superior importance relative to that of St Patrick, contrary to the common but completely unjustified inflation of his significance which can only be explained by misogyny and sexism:
The Irish race O faithful Queen,
Shall ever breathe thy name,
With Patrick’s aid Apostle true,
Our land shall rise to fame.
Tumblr media
3
The feminist Muse from Kildare lives on, inspiring poetry to this very day. Only in 2017 a children's book about St Brigid, Legendary, was published by emerging writer and poet Michael Sheils, featuring multiple poems from her perspective. One of them she addresses to the king, and in it she dismisses his masculine authority entirely, demonstrating her bravery and asserting her independence:
But you can't change my opinion,
No matter what you do,
'Cause I believe in miracles,
I believe them to be true.
The Nine Muses may have enjoyed their mountaintop vantage point, but St Brigid of Kildare has been elevated to an even holier height by her unrelenting devotion to the feminist cause, womanly strength of spirit and all-encompassing love. From her abode high in Heaven's spheres, she whispers into the ears of artists around the world. And she is not going to stop anytime soon.

Comment réciter le chapelet ? How to pray the rosary in English and French
Tumblr media
(img source)
I love the rosary.
It’s a beautiful form of meditation through repetition and intention.
I’ve had some very powerful feelings of peace, joy, and strangely, self acceptance, during my several attempts at praying it. I recommend it to anyone. You don’t even have to be Catholic.
As I’m trying to practice French in some form each day, I thought memorizing the more common prayers of the rosary in the language of a country that is historically heavily Catholic would be lovely, especially since my time in France played a role in my own initial interest in Catholicism.
Rosary Basics
If you are new to the rosary, here’s a quick rundown on how it works:
The rosary is composed of a cross or crucifix and a series of beads, each of which represents a prayer.
It helps to hold each bead as you move through the rosary. This allows you to keep track of where you are without counting, so you can focus on meditation.
That part dangling down to the cross? That’s where you’ll begin. You work your way up from the cross, then around the neck. You can move either clockwise or counter clockwise, it doesn’t really matter.
When you get to the main loop, there are five sets of beads, organized into what are called “decades.” For each decade first you’ll set your intention, which is to meditate on one of the Mysteries of the life of Christ (more on that later.) You can also additionally set your own intention here and add your own prayer.
Tumblr media
Say the Rosary / Réciter le chapelet
Here’s how to work your way through the rosary and the corresponding prayers:
1.  Make the sign of the cross. Faire un signe de croix.
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Au nom du Père et du Fils, et du Saint-Esprit, Amen !
Say the Apostle’s Creed. Réciter du symbol des apôtres:
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day he arose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven; sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead.  I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
Amen.
2. Our Father / Un Notre Père
Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Amen.
3.  Say 3 Hail Marys, one for each bead. Réciter 3 "Je vous salue Marie," une pour chaque perle.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Amen
4. Conclude with Glory Be and Oh My Jesus. Each decade also closes with these prayers. Concluez avec “Glorie au Père” et “O Mon Jésus.” Chaque dizaine se termine également avec ces prières
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.  As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Gloire au Père et au Fils, et au Saint-Esprit, comme il était au commencement, maintenant et toujours, et dans les siècles des siècles. Amen
O My Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell and lead all souls to heaven, especially those who are in most need of Thy mercy.
O mon Jésus, pardonne-nous nos péchés, préserve-nous du feu de l'enfer et conduis au ciel toutes les petit âmes surtout celles qui ont le plus besoin de ta miséricorde.
5. (& 9, 10, 11 12) Now, the meditation on the mysteries begin. Puis la méditation des mystères commence.
For each decade, begin by announcing the Mystery (they’re listed below,) then say the Our Father (see Nº 2.)   Pour chaque dizaine, commencez par annoncer le mystère (ils sont énumérés ci-dessous), puis dites le Notre Père (Nº 2.)
6. Recite 10 Hail Marys (see Nº 3), following the beads. Récitez 10 “Je vous salue Marie" (Nº 3,)  en suivant les perles.
7 & 8. Conclude each decade with Glory Be and Oh My Jesus before moving on to the next decade. Concluez chaque dizaine avec “Glorie au Père” et “O Mon Jésus” avant de passer à la prochaine dizaine.
13. After all the decades are complete, finish the sequence with a Hail Holy Queen, followed by a final prayer or the sign of the cross. À la fin, terminez la séquence avec un Hail Holy Queen, suivi d'une prière finale ou du signe de la croix.
Hail Holy Queen:
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve: to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O merciful, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Amen.
Amen.
Final Prayer:
Let us pray. O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life; grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating upon these mysteries of the most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.
Amen.
The Mysteries
For each decade, you’ll reflect on 1 of 5 certain events of Jesus’ life, depending on the day of the week. I usually like to pull up a classic painting of the event before I announce it, and look at it while I recite the Hail Marys.

Saturday: Preparation for the Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Complementary Hebrew Scripture from the Latter Prophets: Isaiah 33:1-9
Ah, you destroyer,  who yourself have not been destroyed; you treacherous one,  with whom no one has dealt treacherously! When you have ceased to destroy,  you will be destroyed; and when you have stopped dealing treacherously,  you will be dealt with treacherously.
O Lord, be gracious to us; we wait for you.  Be our arm every morning,  our salvation in the time of trouble. At the sound of tumult, peoples fled;  before your majesty, nations scattered. Spoil was gathered as the caterpillar gathers;  as locusts leap, they leaped upon it. The Lord is exalted, he dwells on high;  he filled Zion with justice and righteousness; he will be the stability of your times,  abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge;  the fear of the Lord is Zion's treasure.
Listen! the valiant cry in the streets;  the envoys of peace weep bitterly. The highways are deserted,  travelers have quit the road. The treaty is broken,  its oaths are despised,  its obligation is disregarded. The land mourns and languishes;  Lebanon is confounded and withers away; Sharon is like a desert;  and Bashan and Carmel shake off their leaves.
Semi-continuous Hebrew Scripture from the Writings: Proverbs 8:1-31
Does not wisdom call,  and does not understanding raise her voice? On the heights, beside the way,  at the crossroads she takes her stand; beside the gates in front of the town,  at the entrance of the portals she cries out: “To you, O people, I call,  and my cry is to all that live. O simple ones, learn prudence;  acquire intelligence, you who lack it. Hear, for I will speak noble things,  and from my lips will come what is right; for my mouth will utter truth;  wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words of my mouth are righteous;  there is nothing twisted or crooked in them. They are all straight to one who understands  and right to those who find knowledge. Take my instruction instead of silver,  and knowledge rather than choice gold; for wisdom is better than jewels,  and all that you may desire cannot compare with her. I, wisdom, live with prudence,  and I attain knowledge and discretion. The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil  and perverted speech I hate. I have good advice and sound wisdom;  I have insight, I have strength. By me kings reign,  and rulers decree what is just; by me rulers rule,  and nobles, all who govern rightly. I love those who love me,  and those who seek me diligently find me. Riches and honor are with me,  enduring wealth and prosperity. My fruit is better than gold, even fine gold,  and my yield than choice silver. I walk in the way of righteousness,  along the paths of justice, endowing with wealth those who love me,  and filling their treasuries.”
The Lord created me at the beginning of his work,  the first of his acts of long ago. Ages ago I was set up,  at the first, before the beginning of the earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth,  when there were no springs abounding with water. Before the mountains had been shaped,  before the hills, I was brought forth— when he had not yet made earth and fields,  or the world’s first bits of soil. When he established the heavens, I was there,  when he drew a circle on the face of the deep, when he made firm the skies above,  when he established the fountains of the deep, when he assigned to the sea its limit,  so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth,  then I was beside him, like a master worker; and I was daily his delight,  rejoicing before him always, rejoicing in his inhabited world  and delighting in the human race.
Complementary Psalm 146
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! I will praise the Lord as long as I live;  I will sing praises to my God all my life long.
Do not put your trust in princes,  in mortals, in whom there is no help. When their breath departs, they return to the earth;  on that very day their plans perish.
Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob,  whose hope is in the Lord their God, who made heaven and earth,  the sea, and all that is in them;¹ who keeps faith forever;  who executes justice for the oppressed;  who gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets the prisoners free;  the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;  the Lord loves the righteous. The Lord watches over the strangers;  he upholds the orphan and the widow,  but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.
The Lord will reign forever,  your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the Lord!
¹This passage is found at least three times in the Christian Scriptures. In Acts 4:24 it is part of a prayer in which believers pray for boldness. The prayer is at Acts 4:23-31. Later in Acts (14:15), Paul uses the phrase in responding to the crowds in Lystra, who want to offer sacrifices to him and Barnabas. His speech is at Acts 14:8-18. Finally, in Revelation 10:6, it is part of a speech by an angel holding a small scroll. The speech is at Revelation 10:1-7.
Semi-continuous Psalm 125
Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,  which cannot be moved,  but abides forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem,  so the Lord surrounds his people,  from this time on and forevermore. For the scepter of wickedness  shall not rest on the land allotted to the righteous,  so that the righteous might not stretch out their hands to do wrong. Do good, O Lord, to those who are good,  and to those who are upright in their hearts. But those who turn aside to their own crooked ways  the Lord will lead away with evildoers. Peace be upon Israel!
New Testament Gospel Lesson: Matthew 15:21-31¹
Jesus left that place and went away to the district of Tyre and Sidon. Just then a Canaanite woman from that region came out and started shouting, “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is tormented by a demon.” But he did not answer her at all. And his disciples came and urged him, saying, “Send her away, for she keeps shouting after us.” He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” But she came and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, help me.” He answered, “It is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs.” She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table.” Then Jesus answered her, “Woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed instantly.
After Jesus had left that place, he passed along the Sea of Galilee, and he went up the mountain, where he sat down. Great crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the maimed, the blind, the mute, and many others. They put them at his feet, and he cured them, so that the crowd was amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the maimed whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel.
¹There is a parallel passage at Mark 7:24-30, which is the Sunday Gospel lesson this week.

Puff Pastry Pinwheels – Italian Style
Puff Pastry Pinwheels are a mouthwatering appetizer, yet they’re so easy to make. Just a few simple ingredients come together quickly for a treat that’s sure to impress your friends and family.
What’s up everybody? Pam and Sara from Biscuits and Burlap here stopping by again with a yummy recipe for Puff Pastry Pinwheels – Italian Style. Have you noticed that everything we’ve brought to the Ugly Duckling House has been either a cocktail or an appetizer? That’s because we love a party, and so does Sarah! Slap a drink in one hand and a munchie in the other and we are happy campers!
But, the truth is, we’re also known to make a meal off appetizers (and cocktails) on any given night. It doesn’t have to be a true party. It can be a party for two. Apps and a drink just seem to make any evening feel special.

Puff pastry is one of those products that is so versatile. There are literally dozens of delicious treats you can make with them including desserts, side dishes, entrees and appetizers like these. If you do a search you can find lots of roll-up or pinwheel recipes, but we’ve come up with something unique with the addition of prosciutto.
And then there’s the added fun challenge of pronouncing it: Puff Pastry Pinwheels with Prosciutto. Try saying that three times really fast. To top it off, there’s also Parmesan cheese. While it may not exactly roll off your tongue, these little treats are promised to make your tongue (and the rest of you) happy.
Puff Pastry Pinwheels are easy – just follow these tips
Use your puff pastry as soon as it thaws, or straight out of the fridge. It’s much easier to work with when it’s cold
Use Mozarella cheese that’s finely grated. It will make them roll up more tightly.
Put the whole roll in the freezer for 20 minutes before you slice.
Cut with a serrated knife and use a sawing motion
Bake on parchment paper. This stuff is like heaven on a cardboard roll.
The ingredients are few and simple: besides the puff pastry, you just need pesto (another “P” word), thinly sliced prosciutto, mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. That’s it!

Puff Pastry Pinwheels – Italian Style
An easy, but elegant appetizer. You can easily use two sheets of puff pastry and double the other ingredients to make enough for a crowd.
Author: Sara and Pam Brand - Biscsuits and Burlap
Ingredients
1 sheet puff pastry (found in the freezer section)
2 Tablespoons pesto
About 5 thin slices of prosciutto
3/4 cup finely grated mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
roll puff pastry on lightly floured surface to an approximate 10″ x 12″ rectangle
Spread pastry with pesto, staying about 1/2″ away from one of the long edges
Lay a single layer of prosciutto over the whole thing
Top with mozzarella and then Parmesan cheeses, and then pat everything down with your hands.
Starting with long edge (the one with pesto all the way to the edge) roll up, keeping the roll as tight as possible.
Pinch the edges to seal.
Wrap in plastic wrap and freeze for about 20 minutes.
Unwrap, trim uneven ends and then slice into 18-20 slices, using a serrated knife.
Bake on parchment paper lined baking sheet at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes.

I Saw A Tidal Wave Of The Spirit Wash Across America
During the worship time on March, 21, 2021, in the Sunday morning service, the Lord gave me a vision of a HUGE tidal wave of the Holy Spirit washing across the United States from coast to coast.
It was moving fast. It was wide and deep and covered all 50 states. It quickly washed away all wickedness and evil and left the nation pure and holy. It was like the nation was born again. I sense we are to declare this vision of heavenly reality over our nation I believe this is what God intends. I believe it is His will. We can participate by seeing this, pondering it, and declaring it into the atmosphere. Here is the vision in the form of a declaration which we can speak aloud over our nation: I declare that there is a tidal wave of the Holy Spirit sweeping across the United States. It is a cleansing tide that is bringing holiness and revival as it immerses the nation. It is washing away wickedness and evil. It is leaving the nation spotless and new. This re-birthing of America is being done by the mighty hand of God and God receives all the glory. Thank You, Lord, for Your victory and cleansing of our nation. Let's also declare Ps. 2: Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, "Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us." He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The LORD shall hold them in derision. Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure: "Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion." "I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel.' " Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, And rejoice with trembling. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.

Residents of the Northern Hemisphere are on the eve of yet another autumnal equinox. Autumn officially begins at 9:30 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, September 22.
Autumn has given us plenty of warnings even before her arrival. Instead of turning red, many of the leaves on our backyard maple have simply been falling off one-by-one for weeks. We can thank the leafcutters for much of that.
The crazy weather of this insane year has also played a role in the dying leaves, along with other climatological irregularities. Let’s count the ways.
In late spring, an extended spell of chilly, wet March-like days did their damage. The steady damp weather kept farmers out of fields over much of the U.S. east of the Rocky Mountains.
Some bird species even delayed nesting because the weather was so foul. If birds did nest, naturalists found hatchlings dead because their parents couldn’t find enough insects to feed them.
Then just like that, it got hot and dry. Here in western Virginia, the furnace was on one day, and the air conditioner the next. Vegetation flourished in such conditions, causing the humid, hot wind to carry various pollens far and wide. According to my allergist, I wasn’t the only one sneezing.
The day the rains started in mid-July.
About the time Major League Baseball finally began in July, the heavens opened up. The rains canceled games, and so did COVID-19 because too many players tested positive.
Record rains pelted the full length of the Shenandoah Valley. August usually is a hot and dry month here. Not this year. The weather was more like June should have been. We mowed our lush lawn twice a week for several consecutive weeks.
All the while, fall kept creeping upon us. Butterflies, relatively scarce during June and July, began to arrive. So did the ruby-throated hummingbirds. Now they are all filling up their tanks for their annual southern migration.
Juvenile male Ruby-throated Hummingbird.
The yellow, green, and black Monarch caterpillars have morphed their way into magnificent orange and black butterflies. Predators have learned to avoid dining on them since the Monarch’s appetite for milkweed renders them bitter, according to lepidopterists.
That dreaded F word, F-R-O-S-T, has already made appearances across the northern reaches of the U.S. Can the rest of us be far behind?
If you listen to the jingles and jargon on TV, this is pumpkin spice everything season. Despite the marketing ploys, I’ll gladly stick to my decaf mocha lattes. They’ll taste just as robust when the first freeze hits.
Of course, hurricane season peaks in the first few weeks of fall. The National Hurricane Center has already increased its predictions for both the numbers and intensities of those tropical storms.
Out west, you can’t breathe the air. It’s so oppressively hot and thick with smoke from record-breaking fires that have caused death, destruction, and devastation to humans, wildlife, and entire towns. More than 10 percent of Oregon’s population has been evacuated as of this writing.
Unfortunately for those millions of west coast folks, the sky has glowed an apocalyptic orange for all the wrong reasons. A good frost or even a lovely blanket of snow would greatly help those tired firefighters slow the infernos.
Autumn, of course, abounds with fiery colors, orange included. In addition to the winged creatures, mums, maples, pumpkins, and gourds are but few of the things that warmly usher in fall.
Climate change has undoubtedly played a part in stirring up 2020’s weird and wild weather. It’s been a universally strange enough year already all the way around.
Let’s welcome fall with a blissful hope for more normal global weather patterns.

Rose Petal Jam
Rose Petal Jam with Fresh Rose Petals
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rose Petal Jam is sweet rose-scented heaven! I love floral flavours, particularly rose. They taste wonderful but there is also something romantic and exotic about edible flowers.
I love travelling and one of my favourite places to visit is Morocco. I have had many trips there over the years and have wonderful culinary and cultural memories! Morocco is known for its wonderful roses and rose petals and rose water are used in both sweet and savoury dishes. The province of Ouarzazate, south-east of Marrakesh, is the centre of rose production. Each year in early May in El Kelaa M’Gouna, a small town in the Moroccan “Valley of Roses” there is a Rose Festival to celebrate the annual harvest.
Making Rose Petal Jam reminds me of Moroccan breakfasts and exploring a different culture. However, it also makes me of my own home. I make it using roses from my garden in Gloucestershire and, sometimes, from wild roses that flower in June and July along my regular dog-walking routes.

What you need to know about Rose Petal Jam
What does it taste like? Well, the quick answer is that it tastes of eating roses! It is a sweet, semi-set jam. The petals are not generally removed, although you can do this if you wish, so it has a bit of texture to it too. The long answer is that it tastes of memories, exotic places and also of home (see above!).
How do I use it? It is pretty versatile. I’ve listed a few of the ways that I use it below to offer some inspiration!
First off, you can use it, as you would any jam, spread on bread and butter for breakfast or as an afternoon snack.
It is also great as an accompaniment to cheese. Use it as you would a chutney with hard mild cheese, such as Lancashire or Wensleydale. Drop a spoonful over soft cheese such as ricotta or a good cream cheese. Or drizzle it over fried haloumi.
It is also good stirred into plain Greek yogurt or with vanilla ice cream.
If you are making pancakes, a dollop of rose petal jam, and maybe a spoonful of whipped cream, will make them taste sublime.
It also is a good addition to many plain pudding recipes. Stir it into rice pudding, add it to bread and butter pudding or use a spoonful, together with some whipped cream, to sandwich a pair of meringues.
It is good as a filling for cakes, particularly Victoria-sandwich style cakes.
Tumblr media
How do you make it?
It is really quick and easy to make Rose Petal Jam. It takes only 20 minutes and the list of ingredients is very short.
The time to make this jam is in the summer when the roses, in your garden or in the hedgerows, are in full bloom. Choose new open flowers – rose buds and older roses that are going brown are not as good. It is best to pick them on a sunny day as the flavour will be stronger. Choose fragrant varieties. The stronger the scent of the roses, the stronger the flavour of the resulting jam.
As with all edible flowers, you need to make sure that those that you are gathering have not been treated with any chemicals. Do not ever use roses from a florist as they are very likely to have been chemically treated.
There are two views regarding preparation of rose petals for culinary use.The first is that you should not wash the petals s as this will impact the flavour and you should just shake the flowers and pick through them to remove any insects. The second is that the blooms need to be washed to remove the bugs, and any dirt, regardless of any reduction in flavour. I tend towards the “no-wash” view when making this jam but the choice is yours.
It is vital to add pectin to this jam (step 5) as your jam will not set without it and it does not occur naturally in rose petals!
This jam will keep for around three months. Once you have opened the jar, you should keep it in the refrigerator.

Description
This delicious jam is made from fresh rose petals and has an amazing floral taste.
Scale 1x2x3x
Ingredients
250 ml (8 fl oz) water
450 g (1 lb) caster sugar
50 g (2 oz) fresh rose petals
100 ml (3 fl oz) pectin
Juice of half a lemon
Instructions
Put the water and sugar in a heavy-based pan.   Heat gently until the sugar has dissolved.
Check that the rose petals are free from insects.   You can wash your petals if you wish.   However, to ensure a stronger flavour, it is better not to wash them.
Add the rose petals to the saucepan containing the water and sugar.
Bring the mixture to the boil and then simmer for 10 minutes.
Add the lemon juice and pectin and then pour the mixture into a sterilised jam jar.   Cover with a lid and allow to cool.
Notes
You can sterilise your jam jar by washing it in warm, soapy water, rinsing well and then drying off for 15 minutes in an oven set at 140C/120C fan/gas 1.
Keywords: rose petal, jam

Hey-o! I hope you're doing well. Might I request some headcanons on reuniting with Weiss after the fall of Beacon?
{ notes; firstly, a huge thank you to @rwbybwby for being such a beautiful human being and helping me. please check her out! goodness, please do forgive me in advance if I went overboard on this request. upon taking a gander at the concept, I promptly fell in love, wishing to provide more depth and emotion to it. thus, I expanded the boundaries given, and revamped this heavily. hopefully I didn't screw this up. thank you oh so much for the kind words and for requesting. thanks to my vitamin d deficiency, I am very exhausted, and have been struggling with inspiration lately. but you lovely people are always so sweet, I wouldn't want to disappoint you. I know my imagines aren't as spectacular as others, but this seriously helps me when I'm at my lowest points. as rwby improves, as do I. thank for you all for everything ❤ }

- WEISS SCHNEE ⭐
⭐ What eventuated at the fall of Beacon was a downright traumatizing experience for those involved, cemented into the history of Remnant for generations to come. Vale was in shambles, reverting back to the hardly palpable dust mankind rose out of. Memories of the carnage witnessed first hand by innocents are vivid, becoming the source of nightmares for many. Unless one was antagonistic, none of it was remembered fondly. A friendly competition among schools turned into a massacre; Penny was ripped to smithereens; one of Yang's arms was sliced clean off; masses of Grimm overflowed; Pyrrha met her end, disintegrating into nothingness; the headmaster, Ozpin, was presumed dead; and then some. All of which lead to the very climatic collapse of Beacon, as well as the sudden separation of friends and loved ones. Especially you and Weiss.
⭐ Misery mercilessly preys upon many, yet you were safe. You were among the survivors who clung to the beating of hearts, treasuring your perseverance while mourning the unfortunate ones. Weiss was loyal to her teammates, sticking to their sides as you examined their well being. Despite whatever far from minimal damage was taken, they were resilient to the grueling clutches of an inevitable death. Sighing in relief, you would coax the lovely but icy princess, combing your fingers through her hair. But the tranquility would be severed; the founder of the Schnee Dust Company had arrived to whisk her elsewhere. And leave you behind on the scene of a tragedy.
⭐ Casualties were shrinking in significance; they couldn't compare to the heaviness overtaking your chest. You would be breathless, as Jacques manipulates your love as if she were a paper doll he could tear limb from limb at any moment. Her eyes are the mirror to the soul, which is longing to object her father, but she would abide by his commands. It peers your inner core, as you glimpse at the airship becoming airborne, transporting the young Schnee to where she uncomfortably called home. The stitches binding your parts together are in tatters, ripping at the seams. She would come back, right? A foolish though, you would realize. Yielding to the barefaced honesty of the situation, you would crumble, breaking apart as you express your sadness alongside all the other fortunate people who were still living. But truly, as you watched her depart, you swore you died inside.
⭐ Encased in the walls of the Schnee mansion, she wallowed in her bedroom. In her isolation, Weiss' mind would drift about, pondering pensively on a variety of subjects. May it be the soldier, Winter, the fellow members of Team RWBY, recollections of Beacon Academy, or other miscellaneous subjects. When you would become relevant, she would find herself smiling. Even if the bitterness swells, your distance only made her grow fonder.
⭐ Benevolent as a bumblebee, Klein would be supportive of the relationship you two share. The trustworthy and equally eccentric butler is truthfully gleeful you've elevated the girl's spirits. Coldness once freezing the descendant of Jacques and Willow would be a melted puddle at her feet, thanks to you. It just sends him into an even happier state upon presenting Weiss with a letter inscribed with your name.
⭐ She'd bloat with sweet euphoria--heck, the ice queen would pierce the heavens once receiving something from you. Regardless if your penmanship is grandly expressive or lackluster chicken scratch, Weiss' heart is touched by what the written note has to offer. Reading what escapades you ventured on and reassuring you were okay, she--with the occasional eye roll--would be holding it close to her chest in remembrance. Each time she sends a response letter, she smiles in anticipation to receive another from you in turn.
⭐ The Schnee family is a travesty, an imitation of something intended to be loving and compassionate distorted into a monarchy by her father's hand. Not willing to succumb to his wishes any longer, Weiss would be defiant to his tyranny, venturing outward to find her dear sister and beloved, informing you beforehand. On the trek to mend severed ties, she'd dwell on past times. How you've brought her lips upward, the sweet nothings whispered in her ear, your praise, encouragement, how irritating you could be. How you've grown together as people as a whole. It banishes any bad dreams looming over the poor girl.
⭐ Determination fueling you, you would be thirsting to gaze upon your dearly beloved Weiss once again. The second you were confronted by the snowflake, the Earth's rotation appeared to halt; ending in a standstill. You were stunned, she had grown so, so, so much. Refusing to wait anymore, you would collide, promising to never let her go once you've gotten a good hold on her.
⭐ Weiss would be the most happiest she's ever been within the span of her existence. Belittlement is excused for compliments, she wouldn't feel controlled. Your index finger traces along the scar imprinted over her eye, both proceeding to revel in appreciation you reunited at last. Loving looks are exchanged. And so is a harmonized kiss, as you can predict.
⭐ You would join her quest to search for Winter, urgent to recover the time missed after being apart. However, it appears such a thing isn't needed, as you instantly are thrown into the general dynamic of your relationship. Distance truly does make the heart grow fonder.

Well we have been coming here twice a year since it opened and have never had a problem as did a review 4 years ago but put it in pages instead of posts. So what’s changed ?, minor point is a couple of years ago they changed from Nespresso machines to some crap cheaper copy, obviously saves money on contract, bath accessories still excellent Aqua di Parma. Now onto the 9 day stay with a couple of Spanish (non English speakers) friends for their first stay. This is still an impressive hotel architecturally, modern  yet extremely comfortable and expensive so it should be excellent. Try and go end of May or end of September as rates fall dramatically and you can get a junior suite with private pool for around £550.00 per night including breakfast.

Private Pool & View
Check in is always efficient, the guys out front are excellent at calling taxis or buggy’s to get you anywhere on the complex or taxis and their English has always been excellent. Free sparkling (no idea what it is but it’s not champagne) never tried it and cool towels for hands and face on arrival. All a bit down hill from here though this time around.

Got shown to a room 814 which as this place is built up a cliff/ mountain is the highest placed, apart from some private residences set well behind you. Not the room we were expecting, this is supposed to be an upgrade, ok we had a sea view but it’s still dark dingy and nearer to God and the heavens than the actual sea very similar view from the aircraft when landing and in a block of four which I never knew existed. To top it all the shower was situated in the window where the bath had been in every other room we had seen also the window was obscured by a large rubber curtain which does raise but then you can be seen from next doors deck.  As for showering with a rubber curtain that’s fine  but not when I’m paying these prices. Asked for our non upgraded room, asked nicely but didn’t want an argument over how much better this employee thought it was as I was sure he’s not staying here or paying the bill so I’m not interested in your opinion. Impossible to change as no rooms available because we are fully booked because of a big fat Indian wedding from England who have taken over the place but seemed to have booked it way after us. So that means that some wedding guests have got here before us didn’t  like the room we were given so being last we got stuck with it. Don’t give us the excuses we know how this works. Asked to see the General Manager, low and behold he’s not here, well it was 10.30 pm but he wasn’t here at all so the duty manager just did the usual kick the can down the road and hope for the best. Being Mandarin Oriental regulars here and in other countries we were informed that our profile had been looked at but obviously not opened and read as upgrade or not it’s not what we normally have. My social secretary was not amused and was saying we will check out and re position to the Aman Ruya which is also excellent and whilst googling during the conversation knew that this was available and we are going to decamp there now, it’s now getting on for midnight. This lead to tons of grovelling and was like trying to shift a humping dog off your leg all to no avail until. In three days we can offer you a suite with private pool at no charge, still my secretary was unmoveable as its still a third of our vacation. By now it’s 12.45am and I’m actually reaching the point of I don’t give a shit for one night so we stayed.
Things didn’t look much better in the morning as we woke up staring at a wall and in my opinion a naff B&O tv instead of the view as the room was to narrow for the bed to be turned facing the glass wall. The bed and sheets were as good and comfortable as always and on reflection is it worth the hassle of changing hotels for two more nights, answer no.
Breakfast has always been good so looked forward to that. On entering it was unsurprisingly full of the wedding lot with not enough staff. Every year you wander up and order your omelette from the bloke who cooks it adding whatever ingredients you want and can then stop him from cooking it until it’s rubberised. Not now he informed us it must be ordered from the table, all well and good but this added 40 mins to the whole breakfast as me and my Spanish mate ordered an omelette with everything. What arrived was a cold solid blob containing the main ingredient egg, no herbs, ham, onion or chilli, maybe a little direction or some form of management direction could of helped or even someone with more than four words of English could have been a bonus as we didn’t recognise any of the staff from previous years who had been fab.
Normally don’t eat in the hotel as it’s over priced and not the greatest but always pop into the bar for a couple before going out to dinner. Actually impossible this night as it was taken over by the wedding party with good old thumping music, great this is the only bar in the hotel so along with the few other guests not going to the wedding we were offered a drink in the outside fish restaurant, oh yeah and we can throw in a meal with that. Ok I know it’s a business and you have to make money but if you book a wedding to take over the bar and a restaurant book the whole hotel and you won’t have to appease guests with a duff second choice, strangely  for some reason the meal was only for two which as there was four of us seemed a bit odd but there was no option to eat elsewhere as the other restaurant was you guessed it taken over by the curry munchers. Anyway the fish in the restaurant was fine fresh and not overcooked but a lot pricier than places outside.
three days later we were moved and must say the room was excellent our friends were also supposed to get an upgrade but were out of luck as a large group from Google we’re staying and a big fat Turkish wedding had booked but were having the ceremony outside the hotel luckily. They were quite happy but the room overlooked the hotel entrance rather than anything else.
Pool deck was quiet as most guests were obviously elsewhere celebrating but it is really nice plus you can eat there as well. The better food we think is down by the private beach and is well worth the trek they do an excellent Gazpacho. The beach is good but they have walkways into the sea as it’s actually man made and there are lots of huge boulders to negotiate, the beach service is good.
Mandarin Oriental Bodrum (again) Well we have been coming here twice a year since it opened and have never had a problem as did a review 4 years ago but put it in pages instead of posts.

Black Concert: John Legend Live in Atlanta Friday 5-19!
[tabs] [tab title=”Date: “]Fri, 05/19/17 08:00 PM[/tab] [tab title=”Venue: “]Chastain Park Amphitheatre Atlanta, GA[/tab] [tab title=”Tickets: “]  $83.30 [/tab] [tab title=”Bio: “]John Roger Stephens (born December 28, 1978), known professionally as John Legend, is an American singer, songwriter, musician and actor. He has won ten Grammy Awards, one Golden Globe Award, and one Academy Award. In 2007, Legend received the Hal David Starlight Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Prior to the release of Legend’s debut album, his career gained momentum through a series of successful collaborations with already established artists. At various points in his career, Legend has sung in Magnetic Man’s “Getting Nowhere,” Kanye West’s “All of the Lights,” on Slum Village’s “Selfish,” and Dilated Peoples’ “This Way”. Other collaborative appearances include Jay Z’s “Encore”, backing vocals on Alicia Keys’ 2003 song “You Don’t Know My Name,” the Kanye West remix of Britney Spears’ “Me Against the Music,” and Fort Minor’s “High Road”.
Legend played piano on Lauryn Hill’s “Everything Is Everything”. For his solo work, he earned a Billboard Hot 100 number-one single with “All of Me” in 2013. He won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2015 for writing the song “Glory” from the film Selma.
In 2001, Devo Springsteen introduced Legend to then up-and-coming hip-hop artist Kanye West; Legend was hired to sing during the hooks of West’s music. After signing to West’s label, he chose his stage name from an idea that was given to him by poet J. Ivy, due to what he perceived as an “old-school sound”. J. Ivy stated, “I heard your music and it reminds me of that music from the old school. You sound like one of the legends. As a matter of fact, that’s what I’m going to call you from now on! I’m going to call you John Legend.” After J. Ivy continued to call him by the new moniker “John Legend,” others quickly caught on, including Kanye West. Despite Legend’s reluctance to change his stage name, he eventually announced his new artist name as John Legend.
Legend released his debut album, Get Lifted, on GOOD Music in December 2004. It featured production by Kanye West, Dave Tozer, and will.i.am, and debuted at number 7 on the US Billboard 200, selling 116,000 copies in its first week. It went on to sell 540,300 copies in the United States and was certified gold by the RIAA. An international success, Get Lifted also reached number one of the Norwegian Albums Chart and peaked within the top ten in the Netherlands and Sweden, resulting in worldwide sales of 850,000 copies.
Critically acclaimed, it won the 2006 Grammy Award for Best R&B Album, and earned Legend another two nominal awards for Best New Artist and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. Altogether, the album produced four singles, including debut single “Used to Love U,” which entered the top 30 of the New Zealand and UK Singles Chart, and Grammy Award-winning “Ordinary People” which peaked at 24 on the Billboard Hot 100. John Legend also co-wrote Janet Jackson’s “I Want You”, which was certified platinum and received a nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the 47th Annual Grammy Awards.
A highly sought after collaborator, Legend was featured on several records the following years. He appeared on albums by Fort Minor, Sérgio Mendes, Jay Z, Mary J. Blige, The Black Eyed Peas, Stephen Colbert, Rich Boy, MSTRKRFT, Chemistry, and Fergie, among others. Legend also tentatively worked with Michael Jackson on a future album for which he had written one song.
In October 2006, Legend’s second album, Once Again, was released. Legend co-wrote and co-produced the bulk of the album, which saw him reteaming with West and will.i.am but also spawned production from Raphael Saadiq, Craig Street, Sa-Ra, Eric Hudson, Devo Springsteen, Dave Tozer and Avenue. Released to major commercial success, it reached number three on the Billboard 200 and debuted on top of the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. It was eventually certified platinum by the RIAA, and reached gold status in Italy, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
At the 2007 Grammy Awards ceremony, the song “Heaven” was awarded the Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, while lead single “Save Room” received a nod in the Best Male Pop Vocal category. Legend won a second Grammy that year for “Family Affair,” a collaboration with Sly & The Family Stone, Joss Stone and Van Hunt, for the former’s Different Strokes by Different Folks album.[/tab] [tab title=”Photos: “]

INFINITE UNIVERSE
“If I arrived at the outermost edge of the heaven, could I extend my hand into what is outside or not? It would be paradoxical not to be able to extend it.” The end of the staff, once extended will mark a new limit. Archytas can advance to the new limit and ask the same question again, so that there will always be something, into which his staff can be extended, beyond the supposed limit, and hence that something is clearly unlimited.
