As you planned your next steps, after some time you realized that Nero had left the room- and had been gone for quite a while.
It seemed like a decent idea to look for her, especially considering what had happened to you earlier.
There was an odd feeling in the air as you walked down the hallways, before hearing a small explosion accompanied by a high-pitched yelp, followed by frustrated muttering.
NERO: "Aah! But how? I knew I did it right that time…!"
You opened the door to see a room, where NERO was sitting cross-legged on the floor, her forehead slick with sweat as she groaned to herself, rubbing her temples. As soon as she noticed your presence however, she jumped up to her feet, the exhaustion drained from her expression and replaced by her standard imperious glare.
NERO: "There you are. It seems that I am not on your 'front lines', but no matter-- ahem, as your Caster, I have to show off my affinity for magic and item creation, yes?"
She, without much subtlety, kicked away a tiny, smoking, pathetic-looking trinket out of sight with her heel as she spoke.
NERO: "What shallow coffers you have… normally, I'd tell you to spend all you can regardless, especially for my services. Though… fine, I can gather some materials on my own this time. Taking payment from you now would be like stealing pennies from the peasantry… but just this time, alright?"
You've acquired a Caster! During periods of downtime, when not in the 'Main Party', Casters have the ability to upgrade and create items, usually for a cost- material components don't just grow from trees. However, it seems like this time she has the means to work for free (lucky you)!
NERO, specifically, is an 'unconventional' Caster- with her Item Construction ranked as 'EX' and given the 'Strange' modifier. While her work on standard items may be a bit more restrained, her work on special Code Casts and 'Master Abilities' hold the chance of gaining 'unique' side effects.
She can also investigate, shop, or remain with the party as a 'reserve' member, same as everyone else.
Shopping allows her to spend money to buy items. Nero tends to spend extravagantly, but bring back normally expensive or rare items. Investigation allows her to gather information, and potentially gain materials in the process- or uncover new threads on the Solar Cell. As an Emperor, Nero naturally commands authority, possibly allowing her into places or an ability to gain information that may be unavailable to you all. Sometimes through bribery... so don't be surprised if some money goes missing.
Shopping Style: "High Cost, High Reward" Investigation Style: "Affluent"/"Imperious" Item Creation/Modification: "Eccentric"

If anything, that roadmap Krieg tease undersold how much the Death Korps would be getting in the new year. Between the existing tanks and Veteran Guardsmen, this is at least as much of an army as any of the old pewter regiments had in the '90s. Arguably more.

Starting from the top, Lord Marshal Dreir is a great alternative to the Lord Solar for the role of, "general on horse mount," and stands in his stead among any of the classic regimental heroes.
And if your gonna have one guy on a horse mount, you really ought to have an entire cavalry charge. I think they might have gone a little ham on the Krieg steeds' claws, though - I liked them better a more like goat hooves, so that they look nearly like horses be not quite. Somebody at the studio clearly decided that's insufficiently brutal.

Combat engineers are another adaptation of an existing Forge World kit that looks great. Loving the little screw drive remote mine, although it looks like it's about twice as big as it ought to be to read better on the tabletop.
Artillery emplacements are big Krieg energy and these new heavy guns certainly deliver. The quad mortar is back again, as are two flavors of cannon and a rocket battery. Wouldn't look at all out of place alongside the classic Basilisk platforms (which, who knows, may still make their way to plastic), or the next entry in the new lineup.

Classic heavy weapon carriages, once again in the 2nd Edition style. These are all a little bit more in tune with the nostalgic approach to Imperial Guard than the more modern take on the concept found in the Cadian Field Ordnance Battery, and I think helps them to fill a unique niche from the standard heavy weapons teams.
Rounding things out are a brand new command squad featuring not one but two Commissars (Lord and cadet), vox, standard and chemyst. I think adapting the quartermaster would have probably been a better pull but they seem to be leaning hard into the harsh environment specialists aspect. That combat accountancy servo skull goes hard, though.
Overall, solid. Very happy to see, and when taken alongside the many Solar Auxilia tanks now or soon to be available, represents one of the most comprehensive updates to a range yet seen.

"Make it count" A very special Field Notes commission. The customer wanted me to immortalize one of his very first games, back in 5th edition - 2011! The commissioner even had fotos from the old game and I recreated the environment. The shooter had a special 'instant kill' rule back then. The shot did, in fact, count.

Finally complete, my Death Korps 10th ed collection.

I'm quite an Imperial Guard fan, have been from Rouge Trader days, so I'm quite easily sold on Imperial Guard merchandise lol.

I have Forge World Krieg and the new plastic. But they are not my favourite Imperial Guard army, maybe in my top 5 🤔
They are a very nice take on Space WW1 French troops, but I my favourite army will always be the Praetorian Guard, Space Victorian British.

A Kasrkin Kill Team, painted in the style of my homebrew faction, The Ballatyn Mariners.
A world existing on the radial fringe of the Imperium Nexus, Ballatyn is a well-trodden world of trade and commerce. The rocky, oceanic planet doesn’t have enough solid ground to be devoted to a garden or hive world, so the comparatively sparse population of 8 billion clings to built up city centers and outposts that are spread across the archepelagos and islands that constitute viable land.
The soldiers of Ballatyn pride themselves at being as stony and sharp as their shorelines, well acquainted with extreme weather, salty spray and traversing dangerous ground. The Mariners are known among commanders for weathering difficult conditions, being strong swimmers and their elite amphibious soldiers chosen for dangerous assignments.
