❗️This post contains spoilers for S4 ep.6❗️
Jouno: “… Former Mafia executive, Osamu Dazai. On 138 charges of aiding and abetting in m*rders, 312 threat cases, and 625 instances of fraud and other crimes, I hereby place you under arrest.”
Dazai stood there shocked, completely blown away at having his lifetime of crimes thrown back in his face, when suddenly an irritatingly familiar voice piped up behind him…
Chuuya: “Oi, are ya blind and deaf?”
Jouno: “Excuse me current Mafia executive, Nakahara Chuuya, these are private matters–“
Chuuya: “Where’s his destruction of private property charge?!”
Jouno: “… It’s in with the aforementioned ‘other charges’ category–“
Chuuya: “Oh, so this bandages-for-brains’ crime of blowin’ up my car when he left the Port Mafia isn’t important enough to mention?”
Jouno: “Why is that your conclusion–“
Chuuya: “How would you like it if I blew up your car, hm? Would you enjoy losin’ such a precious and, mind you, expensive asset?”
Jouno: “… I’m blind and can’t legally drive even if I wanted to, but–“
Chuuya: “But nothin’! You let this lanky b*stard get away with everything! No one ever wants to defend poor Chuuya!”
Jouno: “… I’m actively arresting him–“
Chuuya: “Forget it, enjoy your time in prison Dazai! Just know your list of crimes should be a bit more thorough than what this guy is suggestin’!”

the hunting dogs are so fascinating tbh. like the core of them all seems to be about... idk if justice is the word, but like. doing the right thing. putting it above their feelings, usually. on the other hand, jouno and teruko seem to also have a sadistic streak to them (more prominent with jouno ofc), which should go against this sentiment, but actually serves to feed it.
it's interesting that fukuchi asked jouno to join the doa's cause, when at its core it WAS about justice and greater good etc. but. its process is so harmful that tecchou or teruko would likely not put up with it. at the end of the day, we saw that jouno wouldn't either.
this brings me to my next point - the double agents. starting with fukuchi since we already brought him up
i think. if you look at the hunting dogs as a vessel for justice and help. fukuchi fits right in - it's at his core as well, and he was willing to get hurt and eventually die over it. it's hard to pinpoint the core of the doa given what a mishmash of goals they have, but it's easy to see him stand out from them regardless. even in a design way, they all stand out and have really unique looks, while he's literally always in uniform. i wouldn't be surprised if that's a part of what i'm trying to say here - fukuchi belong in the hunting dogs, he is undoubtedly one of them.
meanwhile, tachihara... never seemed to put any emphasis on the same things? i don't think he has bad intentions or likes to harm anyone (he could've killed yosano but decided not to - not just giving up on his revenge plan, but technically his mission as well), but his whole Thing isn't really about justice or even particularly helping others. and i think it's like a thematic way to show that he really does belong in the mafia. his arc is more reminiscent of elememts in chuuya's or akutagawa's stories, for example, about belonging and finding a place and a group for himself. it's no wonder he ended up choosing it and was willing to go against fukuchi - their goals and values just don't align at all, even narratively speaking
i wish we got to see more of them. i think their goal is a bit basic but that's what makes it so flexible, as you can see in the differences between them, which are precisely what makes them interesting. there's a lot you can do with them, esp in contrast to the ada's goal of first and foremost helping and saving people (rather than maintaining a more nebulous concept like justice or law)
i dunno maybe i'm forgetting stuff here lol in which case forgive me, it is currently 3 am. maybe in the future i'll go over every chapter with them and phrase all this more coherently as well 🫡

(late) christmas special , fluff , not all characters
Tumblr media
osamu dazai - !
he would take this moment to make this day joyful for you. no suicide jokes, it’s just all fun things. and once the clock strikes 12 am, he will show you the most beautiful view of yokohama city at night accompanied with the fireworks. as expected of dazai, he would flirt with you throughout the whole day, wanting to see you all flustered.
his gift to you? none. he just wants to spend time with you.
ranpo edogawa - !
left and right, you both are eating different sweets of christmas theme. he does lessen the quantities he’s consuming in case of toothache and stomach ache. with his ability, he is able to tell what gift you wanted for christmas, and prepared months before.
doppo kunikida - !
most of the time, he stays home with you, enjoying your sweet company with him as he enjoys the christmas holiday. during night time, he would wake you up before the fireworks lit up at 12 am.
the thought hard on his gift, which was a fountain pen, a matching jewelry, and a book about something you love.
yukichi fukuzawa - !
the head of the agency would enjoy your company in peace while drinking his usual tea. for once, he's taking a break with you by his side. once you wake up, he kisses your face to show the love that he wanted to give during the days he was busy. his gift? a stray cat he wanted to adopt.
akiko yosano - !
both of you will spend time shopping and hanging out at the mall. after all, this is a special day. she does make sure both of you don't get sick during your special outing. at 12 am, once you both are watching the fireworks lit up, yosano opens her gift to you: red wine for the special night. both of you raised your glasses, and shared a kiss
michizo tachihara - !
this was the day he gets to enjoy his time with you, forget about his job as a mafioso and a hunting dog. he just wants to be a loving partner for the holidays and spend time with you. with his hard earned money, he would gift you the most precious jewelry you could ever set your eyes on, as well as something that you would like.
ryuunosuke akutagawa & gin akutagawa - !
these two siblings don't have that much good memories for christmas, but try to make it memorable for both of them. they didn't prepare a gift, but they loved the quality time they had with both of you.
gin was really expressive with her affection while ryuunosuke didn't know how and was hesitating while celebrating with you. after all, it was odd for him, but it wasn't a bad thing for him.
chuuya nakahara - !
all stress is gone once he's with you. dazai is out of the window, the bandage man is not ruining the mood between you both. during the night at 12am, he would dance with you, twirling you around and dipping you with a smile. of course, can't forget the red wine! just make sure he doesn't pass out outside of your home.
saigiku jouno - !
he has no gift as expected for someone like him (he's blind), but he appreciates the time he spends with you. your presence calms him, relaxes his from his co-workers. he does wish he could see how you smile. before cuddling with you, he would wear earplugs to muffle out the fireworks at 12am. (no avail)
tetcho suehiro - !
this man would cuddle you almost all of the time, hugging you from behind. he helps around to make sure that there are no disturbances while celebrating this christmas season. he has no gift, but he would litter your face with kisses while cuddling with you. he would lift you up on his shoulders, that way you have higher view of the fireworks at 12 midnight.
ango sakaguchi - !
this man is almost tired the whole day, and doesn't wanna go out. he feels guilty that he's tired during the christmas season, but work has exhausted him too much to the point he doesn't wanna see the fireworks at 12am. his gift was small, but unexpected to him, it was something you longed for some time. all he wants to do is cuddle with his partner and rest during the christmas season
mizuki tsujimura - !
she will turn into a child, hopping and jumping around, patiently waiting for 12am to open the gifts. she wouldn't stop giggling as she kisses your face. she wants to forget about work for a few days and be by your side. gift her something spy related, she'll be the happiest, hugging you tightly. this is the only time she gets to be childish and vulnerable after all.
yukito ayatsuji - !
and for the homicide detective, he doesn't celebrate any holiday and just stays inside his office. though, seeing you wanting to celebrate the holiday with him, he gifts you a handmade doll, a miniature version of yourself that he carved for a few nights. he doesn't go out to watch the fireworks and stays inside his office the entire time. at the end of the day, both of you sleep together, enjoying each others company even if it's not too much activity involved.

Thank you to everyone who waited patiently!!! The long overdue update is here for Soukoku's Love Child!

Special thanks to @soukokuwu naturally for proofreading & of course continuing to be my partner for the series! ♡
Soukoku's Love Child - Nikkō's Past
Tumblr media
The soft piano music carried on a reminiscent sound as Dazai walked into Lupin. As he settled into his seat, a certain ginger haired mafioso let out an exasperated sigh as if he'd been expecting company for quite some time. His partner was late as usual.
“What kept you this time, shitty Dazai?”
He took his drink in hand to take a sip before replying. And naturally it made Chuuya upset. A warning glare shot towards the barkeep who was only there to do his job and nothing more. Dazai didn't mind ;In fact for as long as he'd been coming to Lupin, he was always served without having to place a single order.
“I was visiting someone along the way. Turns out, they need my help.”
His partner opened his mouth to retort that there's no way he would assist in helping him but was cut off as if it were expected.
“Chuuya. I know you don't want me to get involved in anyone's problems. But this is a special case. And it will affect you as well.”
The way he released an audible, ‘Tch’ made Dazai smirk with amusement. It was his partner's way of saying, ‘go on and explain yourself fast before I rip your head off’.
“I'm glad you understand. Now. To put it bluntly, I found out more about this kid I ran into. We should adopt him. There's too much risk keeping him in that orphanage and if someone else comes along to grab him.. well let's just say it will only create more work for us.”
Chuuya was irritated at the idea of having a child to look after. He hardly would have patience for Dazai as troublesome and childish he could be. Taking care of a real child would be a nightmare.
“Now listen here, if you think that you could just make all the decisions here and I would just go along with it, you're dead wrong.”
Sure, Chuuya was aware that when it came to making life changing decisions that Dazai had a natural gift for choosing right every time. But that didn't mean the ginger had to mindlessly agree every time something like this occurred.
The way he cooly took his drink to his lips only made him more angry. That sly smile played on his lips like he could order the mafia executive around like some second hand maid.
“Look you bandaged bastard, I mean it. If we just ignore this child and we do end up with more work, so what? We could always use an alternative to helping the kid find a stable home rather than have us watch him.”
Even given their separate roles, it would be impossible for either of them to always have visual watch on the kid. Was he expecting the two of them to play hot potato taking care of him? And then there were always the possibilities of the kid wandering off. Chuuya shook his head after drinking from his glass.
"No, Dazai. There's too much maintenance to bother having this kid in our care. I say make him someone else's problem or just forget about it.”
He knew better than to doubt Dazai's intuition. As insufferable this man was, he never made a wrong call on a long term decision. Ultimately, that was part of the pros of dating such a man. Still, no matter how sharp Dazai was in taking the lead, Chuuya refused to cooperate. This time, Dazai was asking for too much on his part.
To be honest, the burnette anticipated a reaction like this from Chuuya. He didn't look surprised in the slightest as he watched his partner express the facial expression of a stubborn dog who didn't want to move an inch. Unless his owner was going to drag him along by the leash.
“You may be against it now, Chuuya. But when I tell you what kind of capabilities this child has, you'll change your mind.”
Dazai took another sip from his glass before setting it down with a soft clink against the glass coaster. His warm chocolate gaze filled with sorrow as he parted his lips to tell the story of a child that lost everything at once.
***
The child was only six when this took place. A meeting that was long overdue on a night when the air was bone chilling. It whispered desirable sins in the ears of two lovers that tore a bond that was at wit's end. There was only a matter of time that this would happen but the way it happened was something not fit for children. So it was only natural that they waited until their son was put to bed before they took action on leaving him behind.
Nothing was going to stop them from reaching what they both wanted most. The one thing in life that was irreversible that was both feared and wanted by man. It was something that their son wouldn't understand until long after they left.
“The only thing I hope for.. is that he won't hate us if he ever finds out.”
Her silky voice came out in a soft whisper. Sweet honey coated eyes staring back into that freshly cut emerald gaze of his. They were sharp and confident the way he reassured his wife with a gentle press of his lips to hers. The moonlight shone down on them like a spotlight. They danced against death for their whole lives. But tonight? Tonight they would dance toward it.
They had decided a while back; they’d do it here, near the river, under the bridge where it’s quiet, barren. It wasn’t too far from the house, but far enough so their child would be able to sleep through it. Doing it at their home would be too much, too troublesome.
Tonight was the last time they could breathe. The last time they would see each other. Their fate was sealed with the guns they both held in each other's hands. They intertwined arms with the barrels resting on their foreheads. With a silent exchange to one another, they released the trigger.
It was roughly 6:45 A.M. that the boy had woken up from his slumber. He was in a daze, rubbing sleep from his eyes as he rolled out of bed to search for his parents. Their bedroom being empty sent his heart into a panic. Where did they go? And without him? Frantically, he opened the front door to rush to the first place he thought of. The river. It was a favored area that Nikkō loved to spend his time skipping rocks.
There were even times when he would hide from his parents to play out here. It was an obvious spot to be found, but that didn't matter to him, he always wanted to be found easily. However, this time, Nikkō's parents were the ones easily found.
Two bodies, side by side and covered in red, tainting the usual clear blue gentleness which was the river. It no longer held the innocent and kind memories of his family. Instead, it haunted him as he stared wide eyed and unmoving like a statue.
He was snapped out of his blank state to the sound of an incomplete call made out to the caller ID labeled, ‘YASU’. The cell phone was found in his mother's hand. He broke down in uncontrollable sobbing. Nikkō was there, curled in between the decaying bodies of his parents. Crying hysterically with an erratic heartbeat that was visible to the naked eye. A man who possessed blond hair and kind eyes had shown up before to tame the child before police arrived.
It was decided from the note left behind that he would be put into the orphanage for the sake of not learning of his dark past. Out of fear that the child would possibly take things the wrong way or attempt to take his own life out of guilt. His parents did not want the chance of Nikkō ever finding out about losing his family. There was also the logical fear that someday, learning about his ability that he could use it to hurt everyone around him.
As long as he remained oblivious to his ability, he could live out a full life of happiness. If he remains in the orphanage, some loving family will pick him up and raise him to be a sweet child. There were too many risk factors to expose Nikkō to such sensitive information. All they could do was hope he would never have to go through the stress and strain that came with having an ability.
Including knowing about Yasu, he was left with no choice. His parents found it too risky that one day, the truth would slip out if they allowed Yasu to raise Nikkō. Their last request of their old friend was to take him to an orphanage. No further contact was allowed with him after he was dropped off. But Yasu loved Nikkō like his own. He kept his promise to take Nikkō to the orphanage, only to go against their wishes and keep in contact with the boy by exchanging gifts and letters with him as time passed.
The moment the orphanage learned about the child's ability to manipulate emotions upon physical contact, they had him separated from the rest of the children. He was considered a walking disaster that only wanted those to suffer with him. When in actuality, the child not only had no clue he possessed an ability, but he wished for someone to explain what he was feeling. He was confused and often became docile at the mention of any word similar to ‘family’.
He was often asked many questions referring to his past like what happened to his parents and if he knew why he was there at the orphanage. Nikkō couldn't answer with certainty, given that the disturbing image of two bloodied bodies seen at a tender age made his brain block out those memories. Something in him refused to let him access his past. Telling him to keep pushing forward and never look back.

What do you think of the Hunting Dogs? Specifically, what do you think of Tecchou and Jouno's role in the narrative (and Tachihara's)?
Hello anon!
I have briefly mentioned the Hunting Dogs here and here
These are some general thoughts on them I am quoting from the two metas I linked:
The Hunting Dogs are so obsessed by the idea of justice that they forget to balance it with empathy. All in all, if there are characters in the series who are “too correct” that would be them and not Yosano. They have failed to realize it so far, but it is possible they will have to rethink their ways.
After all, they are fighting against a group called the Decay of Angels. It has been said that this group wants to destroy the same society the Hunting Dogs want to protect and they are clearly using people’s ideals and biased concepts of right and wrong to manipulate them and turn them into accomplices of their scheme. All in all, they are the perfect enemies for the Hunting Dogs and the arc is clearly hinting at the fact that the Dogs will have to face their shortcomings (after all the current chapters are called Skyfall).
And again:
The Hunting Dogs are so convinced that they are the heroes who should punish criminals that they don’t even realize that the people they are trying to kill are innocent. They are so sure to be the right side that they can’t see that they have become pawns of that same criminal organization that they are supposed to stop.
I think that these two extracts highlight two ideas connected to the HD.
1) The danger of justice without empathy.
2) The hypocrisy behind some ideals people can embrace.
The first point can be easily summarized by using two words mentioned in Yosano’s story:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Correctness” stands for justice, whereas “kindness” stands for empathy. In short, what is suggested is that judging a person only because of the results of their actions ignoring the feelings and the reasons why they took their choices is detrimental.
However, this is what the Hunting Dogs are doing:
Tumblr media
Fukuchi is Fukuzawa’s childhood friend, but he has no hesitation in hunting and killing Fukuzawa’s subordinates even if it is implied he himself might not personally want it. He does so just because they have been identified as criminals.
In short they seem to be in the story to explore this idea:
Justice is a weapon. It can be used to cause harm, but it cannot protect or save others.
Dazai Osamu
The second point is interesting because it shows that deep down the HD are really no different from the stray dogs (both the mafia and the ADA) they despise so much.
Let’s consider this:
Tumblr media
Here Tachihara is talking about the HD, but it is not by chance that his words could very well be true for the mafia as well:
Tumblr media
This perfectly shows that ironically the HD are not much different from the mafiosi who are ready to kill others to maintain Mori’s idea of peace.
The HD are proud because they see themselves as heroes of justice. They are not stray dogs, but dogs selected and adopted by a master (aka the governement) and this makes them better than others. At least, this is probably what they force themselves to believe.
The ironic thing is of course that all of them are portrayed with attributes society would consider problematic.
Teruko is sadistic and violent, while Jouno enjoys psychologically torturing people. Finally Tachihara is in the HD simply because he wants to find a place to belong.
All in all, among the four subordinates, Tecchou is the one who probably genuinely believes in justice, but his idea is simplicistic and naive as it was explained in point one.
In short, the HD are imperfect humans just like everybody else and they have found a reason of living in their organization just like the members of the ADA and of the mafia did.
This is also why they are so easily manipulated. It is because in order to truly think about “right” and “wrong” in a constructive way, they should let go of the labels they use to read the world. However, they can’t because if they did they could very well lose themselves.
In the end the HD are foils of the detectives just like the mafiosi, but they are so in a different way.
The mafiosi are who the detectives could become if they were to completely lose themselves in their most violent and darkest parts, while the HD are who the detectives could become if they were to embrace simplicistic ideals over people. This is also why this arc has been particularly hard on Kunikida since among the members of the ADA he is the one who risks to do so the most.
I will now briefly discuss the connections between each HD and one member of the ADA they foil. Since the arc is not over, some of these ideas must be considered generally and we have to see how they will play out.
1) Fukuzawa ishares a past with Fukuchi exactly like he does with Mori:
Tumblr media
Fukuchi is said to be a war hero and to have been granted a godly sword:
Tumblr media
It is not known if the sword is supposed to have some special power, but from the way people talk about it, it seems also some kind of honorable gift. The director has received a similar gift at the beginning of the arc:
Tumblr media
However, differently from Fukuchi, his role in the war is considered something which should stay hidden:
Tumblr media
In short, the two men share a common past, have both built an organization and are proud of it. However, Fukuchi is a person society has completely accepted to the point he was given a title and a unit, whereas Fukuzawa has fought to leave his own past behind and to live a better life, but the moment he succeeds his past catches up with him:
Tumblr media
2) Jouno has been clearly associated to Dazai:
Tumblr media
Dazai himself comments they would go along pretty well because of their similarity. They are two cynics who have fun provoking their far more idealistic partners (Kunikida and Tecchou). What is more, they are both said to be experts at interrogating people.
This highlights the fact that both Dazai and Jouno are very good at reading others. Dazai is said multiple times to have eyes who can see everything, whereas Jouno claims that he can use his enhanced senses to perceive more things than others.
All in all the way Jouno is described during his official introduction is interesting:
Tumblr media
Apart from his ability being called Priceless Tears which might suggest there is more to his eyes being kept closed, there is the fact that he is called the king of avidya.
I am not an expert of hinduism, but from what I understood thanks to @hamliet avidya can be seen as “ignorance” or “self-deception”.
The title fits Jouno who enjoys pointing out to others what they want to ignore about themselves:
Tumblr media
However, the question is if Jouno himself can overcome his own ignorance and if he is being honest with himself. When it comes to this, I think his relationship with Tecchou might give us some interesing hints which could be developed in an interesting way.
In a sense, Jouno and Tecchou’s relationship seems similar to both Dazai and Kunikida’s partnership and potentially to soukoku too.
The soukoku’s similarities so far are superficial in the sense that both partnerships are made of a combination between a person who is extremely intelligent (Dazai and Jouno respectively) and one who is extremely strong (Chuuya and Tecchou). What is more, despite the fact that the two members are often coupled together, they don’t go along well.
However, despite these similarities, there is a key difference between Tecchou and Jouno’s partnership and Dazai’s one with both Chuuya and Kunikida and it is that so far Jouno has been far less successful than Dazai in going on his partner’s nerves.
So far, Tecchou has not been annoyed in the slightest by Jouno’s attempts to go in his way:
Tumblr media
And he has also won their interrogation match:
Tumblr media
This is interesting and it might have to do with the HD as a group having a far less nuanced idea of right and wrong than the agency does. All in all the agency deals with gray cases and some of his members like Dazai and Ranpo are not really interested in right and wrong, while others like Kenji seems to have a pretty vague idea of these two concepts. So it makes sense that in such an environment Kunikida is constantly challenged by his comrades. This is also something positive because Kunikida risks to become too rigid in following his ideals. At the same time he can inspire his comrades too:
Tumblr media
All in all Kunikida’s ideals guide the agency and the agency keeps Kunikida in check and avoids that he goes too far in pursuing them.
However, the HD fight for justice and this is all:
Tumblr media
So, it makes sense that Jouno’s attempts to challenge the dog who embodies justice the most fail.
However, this is interesting when it comes to Jouno. After all, why does Tecchou go on his nerves so much?
Tumblr media
Jouno explains that Tecchou’s spirit lacks artistry. I think this is a way to say that Tecchou does not understand nuance and has a simplicistic vision of the world. This might be true, but why does Jouno care? Isn’t he a HD too? And if he is, shouldn’t he fight for justice too? It is possible that Jouno doesn’t actually like justice so much and might understand that it is an oversimplification. However, he doesn’t seem to care about people either and he enjoys seeing them suffer. In a sense, he might embody the darkest aspect of justice which is not interested in being fair, but simply in punishing someone and in seeing them fall apart.
3) As stated above, Tecchou’s foil is Kunikida:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This confrontation is interesting because it is really two different systems of ideals coming into conflict. This is also symbolized by their respective abilities.
On one hand Kunikida’s notebook is representative of his ideals and his power uses it to make them become concrete things. On the other hand Tecchou’s sword represents justice. The choice of having these two characters collide is interesting because one can easily see their conflict as a representation of the one between “the word” and “the sword”.
Kunikida’s ideals are made for people and what he wants is not to let people die in front of him. All in all, Kunikida is learning that ideals should bend and be flexible when it comes to people even if they must not be discarded. This is why in Moving Ahead Alone he doesn’t change his schedule to meet a person he admires, but he does so when it is about saving a little girl.
All in all Kunikida wants his ideals to spread and people to embrace them:
Tumblr media
He might not go at it in the best way possible, but he still believes people can change and can be educated. After all he used to be a teacher.
Tecchou’s ideals are about justice and “fairness”:
Tumblr media
He believes that bad deeds should be punished and good deeds should be rewarded and has decided to become a weapon to do so.
Let’s highlight that Tecchou seems to be extremely serious about this:
Tumblr media
He is ready to be cut by his sword (aka justice) himself if he were to do something wrong and he is serious both about cutting criminals down, but also about protecting people he deems admirable. However, the problem is that it is not sufficient that he genuinely wishes to be fair to ensure that the world is. For example, he claims that he will not kill the members of the ADA and will give them a fair trial, but the whole reason why the detectives are running is that a fair trial is impossible:
Tumblr media
So, Tecchou wants to establish justice, but he can’t because he is nothing more than an individual with a biased vision of the world exactly like all the others.
4) I don’t have many thoughts on Teruko, so I won’t write about her. We will see if she is given more focus later on. I find her power interesting, though.
5) Tachihara is a character linked to Yosano since the both of them are basically trying to overcome the death of the same person. I have briefly talked about it in the Yosano meta I linked above and I won’t repeat myself.
As for now, I think it is important to highlight that Tachihara foils Atsushi.
They have both been considered worthless by their guardians:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They both might have ended up becoming criminals:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But were found by an organization which gave them a new purpose and made them feel useful. Because of these two groups they have been usingtheir powers to help society.
Their foiling is made pretty obvious in the chapters centered on the Hunting Dogs since Tachihara is our main POV character there just like Atsushi is for the ADA.
What we learn about him in those chapters is that he really just wants to be recognized just like Atsushi (and Akutagawa):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the same time he is using his job in the HD as an excuse to lash out on others when his brother is concerned:
Tumblr media
All in all, hating Yosano for what happened is wrong since Yosano herself was a victim, but Tachihara still does so because he probably needs someone to blame. What his more, his role as a policeman gives him the perfect excuse to take revenge. In short, Tachihara has issues similar to Atsushi and shows very clearly that trying to overcome them by becoming “a good person” is something which won’t work:
Tumblr media
Despite them being criminals he has grown to care for some people in the mafia and this goes against the coping mechanism he embraced and which might be overcome at one point because of these cracks.
At the same time, Tachihara also shows that killing other people to settle a score just ends up hurting others and solves nothing and this is something Akutagawa must learn:
Tumblr media
Tachihara’s actions to avenge his brother hurt someone else’s little sister and it is probable that made Tachihara himself the target of revenge.
In conclusion, the HD exist to embody this concept:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Morality is a prison who gives people happiness because it makes them think that they are in the right and this gives them comfort. The Decay of Angels want to destroy this concept. However, they too are wrong because all in all morality together with other coping mechanisms are things humans come up with because they want to live. And to live it what everyone deep down wants:
Tumblr media
In the end Gogol’s final scream of free will highlights exactly this. The HD are no different and they have just to accept it.
Thank you for the ask!
