#entrepreneurs often enslave themselves as #indenturedservants to their #business' being the master. This contract in my #contentstudio from 1769 reminds me that #freedom and #impact are my #goals. It's too easy for me to work 16 hours straight. Don't be your own #indenturedservant ... #trevorchapman #ecommerce #ecommcon

The passage of indentured servitude from Germany is greatly outlined in Gottlieb Mittelberger's "Journey to Pennsylvania", published 1756, and can be read online by googling the title. ------------- #digginyourancestors #journeytopennsylvania #mittelberger #indenturedservitude #indenturedservants #colonialamerica #ancestry #ancestors #germanimmigrants #germany #familyresearch #familyhistory #familytree https://www.instagram.com/p/BuwU7gagm_c/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1nutjocwrvo5l

My Indentured Servants
After serving 14 years of service under my household, Thomas Griffin will be given his freedom today. He was a very skilled laborer who was in charge of all my slaves and an amazing cook. He did try to run away four times which extended his labor for an extra four years. He came to me on a wrecked little ship to find a way to survive. There were no job opportunities back in England for him and I gave him a life that he can forever cherish. He can become whatever he wants here in the New World (even though his status in the hierarchy will be close to his as an indentured servant). Alice Clayton is my other indentured servant who still has another 4 years left (unless she tries to run away like Thomas). She is a sharp young girl who takes care of all the laundry and sewing. It’s nice having them around, but I can’t have them under my control for as many years as I can have slaves.

Servants
Unfortunately today is a very depressing day. One of my indentured servants contracts are coming to an end and she will be leaving. I’m very upset that I’m going to be having one less worker to do my hard field work. I don’t remember the servants name off the top of my head but it will be depressing to see them go. Luckily, they don’t have any children or a husband that will be leaving shortly after.
I’m thinking of buying more indentured servants soon. With this one servant leaving, it reminds me that my workers can leave or get sick unexpectedly or without me realizing. Within the last year two women that I had a contract with, died of malaria. Both the women had children so they continue to work off their mothers contract. Hopefully I will be able to buy more women that can take care of my new child.

Today celebrates the first ship of 261 Indians who arrived in Jamaica under the forced and oppressive indentured labor system operated by British. With their values and customs, abilities and principles, Indians, in particular Hindus, have made plenty contributions to the island of Jamaica, as their fellows did in other places. The social acceptance of Indian Culture in Rastafari raises points and counterpoints. If socialization is the process by which society achieves cultural continuity and perpetuates itself, then it is counterproductive to exclude elements of Hinduism from the framework that is imparted to Rastafari posterity. The historical documentation is significant enough that it would have been a grave misgiving not to show this relationship in film. 173 years of contributions from East Indies to West Indies - Give thanks. #india #indian #hinduism #jamaica #caribbean #history # contributions #rasta #rastafari #culture #memory #cannabis #indianfood #indianspirit #religion #movement #documentary #women #production #givethanks #irie #love #dreads #dreadlocks #celebrationtime #indenturedservant #may10 #film

Reposted from (blackmarketnubian) We’ve got all the receipts we need for a very detailed Reparations plan. This ain’t rocket science. This country don’t want to pay its’ debt to the families that suffer (to this day) on behalf of the African holocaust. #thisisamerica #reparationsareowed #land #education #wages #healthcare #africanspirituality #language #40acresandamule #blackmarketdudley #blackmarkettribe #blackhistorymonth #blackhistory365 #slavery #slaveowners #confederateflag #40acres #amerikkka #blacklivesmatter #sharecropper #indenturedservants https://www.instagram.com/p/B-VR9bBlAA7/?igshid=o5zudckzlsbq

Matthias de Souza, an indentured servant, was the only black person to serve in the colonial Maryland legislature. As such he is the first African American to sit in any legislative body in what would become the United States. Matthias de Souza worked as an indentured servant for Father Andrew White, a Catholic priest. He arrived in Maryland in 1634. Records record him as being called mulatto (a African/European mix). De Souza became a free man in 1638, after working the required four years as an indentured servant. In 1641 he was elected to the Maryland General Assembly, serving until 1642. Soon after, when Susquehannock Indians attacked the English settlers, de Souza became indebted to John Lewger and to planter John Hollis as he was unable to trade for furs. The last trace of Matthias de Sousa in the records of the colony is an order of the court in 1642 requiring him to reenter indentured servitude. He was ordered to serve John Lewger for a limited period of time to pay off a debt. There are no further records of de Souza after 1642. #blackhistorymonth #blackhistory #maryland #mattiasdesousa #colonists #servant #free #colonialmaryland #indenturedservitude #indenturedservant #johnlewger #johnhollis #marylandgeneralassembly #susquehannock #indians #settlers #mulatto #mixedrace #usa #black #us #africanamerican #first

I noticed...
That the indentured servants lessened due to higher wages in Britain and thus, more slaves were needed to make up for the lack of servants.
