apologies if you've already talked about it somewhere, but id love to know who are your picks for the 5star grand prix ! are there any particular story threads we should be looking out for, you think? thanks so much, i hope it really delivers this year <3
Ooh this is a good question! I did talk about this very briefly when I was on episode 40 of Kick Out 2.99 which you can listen to here, I don't actually recommend an entire 2 hour podcast for like my 30 second answer when this question came up but I have to plug it if I can lol.
I'm honestly not sure I have a strong pick this year? I said in the podcast I knew people were saying Utami, and my answer at the time was, I guess that's conceivable? I'm still not saying I think it's like, impossible, but I've since seen people's actual arguments for why they think Utami is the obvious winner and now I mostly just think people on twitter can't follow a story.
I'm trying not to predict anything too strongly bc I'm already too emotionally invested in Tam's title run, and also bc I have a tendency to fantasy book my whole preferred story, and then even if what happens is really good I'm just bummed it's not what I wanted.
So I guess my firmest pick for a win right now is maybe Mayu? The 5 Star is less of a focus this year then it has been historically; they're not stopping their regular big shows while it's going on and lots of people, even people with belts, aren't in the tournament at all. I went into it feeling like this year the winner isn't going to be the person who beats Tam for the title, and the low-keyness of the 5 Star has kind of furthered that feeling for me. Which is fine, I don't mind a more relaxed tournament watching experience at all, but it doesn't really feel, like, the 5 Star is THE thing happening during the Summer, it's just one of the things happening during the Summer.
But anyway I'm kind of feeling Mayu bc being the first person to win the tournament for a second time would still be a big accolade for her, and the match with Tam would be a big one, but then Tam could beat her and that would be a big step for their story that wouldn't involve a belt change. Also could see Suzu doing well, maybe making it to the finals if not Mayu just bc I feel like they'll want to push her at least a little since they finally signed her. Also maybe Anou, in story she seems to want to challenge Tam but can't quite say it, and irl she's a huge get for them, but she isn't quite signed yet so idk they'd want to give her quite that much. Anou vs Suzu would also be a very emotional finals matchup given their history. Basically I have a lot of people I'm like, "sure, I could see it" for, with no one I want to write off completely and also no one who feels like a clear frontrunner.
As far as stories to watch out for, for individual matchups I think the big ones are pretty easy to spot this year. On house shows they've got them pretty spaced out acting as the main events, so that the main is usually at least a medium-big match and the rest are the matches just happening bc it's a round-robin tournament. I think there are two Korakuen Hall shows scheduled with tournament matches that are set to be more top to bottom big matches, and of course on the night of the final block matches it's all big matches that will either be important for the characters, the standings, or both. I won't get into every individual big match bc this is going to be long enough as it is.
As for individual stories, you can read my translation of the 5 Star press conference here, and I am who I am so here is my read on everyone's story based on the 5 Star press conference and their first few matches:
Red Stars
Hanan: She just wants to win any match, and maybe even not finish at the bottom of her block. She's not really a rookie any more but having just finished high school she's very much at the bottom.
Mariah: Wants to prove that despite being a foreigner, she still belongs in Stardom.
Mina: Mina's moved on from the white belt and is now aiming for the red, and wants to take it from Tam specifically. Winning the 5 Star would be all about getting to Tam for her. She already has what should be a big win for her over Mirai, but described her feelings as mixed bc she knows it should be big but she's moved on and doesn't care about the white belt now, that's how focused she is on Tam and the red.
AZM: Always puts on good performances with lackluster or middling actual results. She... doesn't seem particularly driven to do any more than that this year? She said she wants to build her conviction, which does feel like what she's lacking, but we'll see how it goes. Promised Tam she would earn a title shot against her, so she is aiming for the red belt, but definitely an underdog in that "division".
Mirai: Having won the Cinderella Tournament this year, she has the opportunity to win both of the year's singles tournaments, something that's only been accomplished before by Toni Storm. She doesn't seem to be totally prepared for the target on her back that the white belt represents and I suspect she'll end up in a bit over her head.
Momo: Hates everyone, wants to hurt you.
Anou: Being in the 5 Star is extremely meaningful to her bc she loves Stardom and loves the tournament; she said she's watched it every year. Also wants a match with Tam but can't say it out loud, and a tournament win would help with that. Doesn't have many personal connections outside of CA, Giulia, and Suzu, so a lot of her matches will be building those up. I think she could go far.
Maika: With Himeka's retirement, and the rest of her faction holding the Artists belts together, she sort of needs to prove herself as a singles competitor. Says she wants to win the red belt AND the IWGP belt and then get a singles match against a big name mens' wrestler, but setting goals bigger than what's gonna happen isn't exactly something new for Maika. Her matches should be pretty much all good to great though.
Utami: Finally figured out how to be a good leader (maybe) and then went to find herself in America. But she's also trying to turn back the clock, recreating her look from when she won the 5 Star in 2020. Just last November she already tried to turn the clock back to when she was champ against Syuri and failed, so the question this time is is what she's found since then enough to make up the difference? Is she just harkening back to when she was on top to make a statement, or is she actually trying to go back to how she was back then and possibly dooming herself to failure?
Giulia: As she won last year, has the chance to be not only the first person to win the tournament twice but the first to win it twice in a row. However between being Artist champ and NJPW Strong Women's champ and seeming to have been relatively content to drop the belt to Tam she doesn't seem super motivated to actually earn a title shot from winning the tournament, and it would just feel weird to give her one this soon as well.
Blue Stars
Ami: In some ways Ami has progressed since she swept the qualifier tournament to get in last year. She's won her first title, she didn't have to earn entry into the tournament this year. However in other ways she's also stalled out a little, spending lots of time playing the third member of God's Eye and struggling to maintain the momentum she had last year. Ami is less aiming for the total win than aiming for that next step to level up.
Natsuko: Absolutely furious and aiming for a singles match with Utami in the finals more than an actual tournament win. Not even remotely over losing Saki from Oedo Tai and completely unwilling to place the blame on the one person whose fault it is, herself.
Hazuki: Came in wanting to prove herself as the definite successor to Mayu and get a strong record throughout the tournament, having set a new record for longest 5 Star winning streak last year and then choking in the bottom half. She immediately lost to Mayu in her first match though, and is now confused and trying to figure out what she's missing as a singles competitor.
Natsupoi: I expect really big things from Natsupoi out of the tournament, and sort of didn't list her as a possible winner only bc 1) she faces Tam on the last night of block matches so the timing and booking would be a little clunky and 2) her goal is still the white belt, not the red. I think Poi is someone who will show a lot and have a lot of significant individual matches and maybe earn some title shots despite not actually winning. She wants the white belt so, so bad still, and doesn't want to be outshone by Tam, but also kind of loves her so much she doesn't really want to fight her right now, so she's very focused on just the white belt. Also, outside of the story, her popularity is white hot right now so it just wouldn't be surprising to see them give her a lot.
Starlight Kid: Pissed off for the same Oedo Tai reasons as everyone else, she's kind of in the same boat as AZM of always performing well and not really getting the results to match. She's another one who's more aimed at the white belt than the red.
Suzu: Did extremely well in her first 5 Star last year, this time she's signed with the company to boot. The question is really if she can do that little bit better than last year to actually make it to the finals. A lot of her individual matchups are still about building relationships and rivalries. Has stumbled a little bit out of the gate but is still determined.
Syuri: Is focused on earning a shot at "a certain belt", which is probably the red or the IWGP. Pretty focused but honestly not feeling particularly fired up to me, I'd be a little surprised narratively if she actually wins. I sort of suspect her focus will end up being more on Saki and God's Eye stuff.
Mayu: I already laid out why I think she's a solid frontrunner earlier, and she wasn't at the press conference and hasn't cut any promos about the tournament so there... isn't really any more info than that to be gleaned, story-wise. One additional aspect is that in the past she had talked about wanting to retire at 30 and she turned 30 in February, so maybe that got extended because of her movie, and of course I'll always hope joshi wrestlers just decide to actually wrestle into their 50s, but there is a chance this is one of Mayu's last chances if she's still thinking about hanging it up soon.
Tam: Is, of course, in the tournament as the red belt champion. Wants to improve on making it to the finals last year and actually win this year. The red belt champion has never won before, so she would be making history, and no one's ever even made it to the finals two years in a row, so if she makes it that far even that would be big. However she hasn't really indicated there's anyone in particular she wants to choose to challenge her, and, well, the red belt champ never wins, so. There's also the aspect hanging over her entire run with the belt of her saying she'll probably retire after she loses it. I certainly hope it's just a work, but it could be the truth, so that sort of. Hangs over everything she does at this point, being bad for my mental health.
Phew, okay there, I think that is like, all of my 5 Star takes, at least for now. Also, knowing Rossy, it's just as likely he goes with one of the options I already said I really don't think is happening bc the booking would be clumsy bc he just is a shitty booker and is perfectly happy to once again let the wrestlers pick up the pieces and figure out how to turn it into a compelling story, it wouldn't be anything new.
Despite how that sounds though I am really excited for the tournament as a whole; I kind of think the winner this year isn't really the most important part, and I'm really looking forward to all the stuff that'll happen before we get there.

I am happy to share another great review from the MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW!
This time for my nonfiction.
Tumblr media
I Am Consciousness Incarnate
Matthew Pallamary
Mystic Ink Publishing
9798988499800, $12.95, PB, 158pp
Synopsis: I am consciousness incarnate.
The fact that you just became conscious of me has made you more conscious than you were a moment ago. Your recognition has brought you a heightened awareness of my presence that constitutes an expansion of consciousness. In no more than a few words, this reflection of my existence within you is already bigger than that first moment of acknowledgment.
Now that you are paying attention, the energy you are giving me has caused me to grow both here where I am meeting you in one of my many forms, and inside of you where you embrace these myriad forms with the mirror of your own incarnate consciousness.
If you question what makes up their consciousness, you will come to the conclusion that your thoughts make up your consciousness, which leads to the question, "Who is it that is aware that I am thinking?"
The answer is, "I am aware that I am thinking," but it isn't that simple. If it is ourselves that is aware that we are thinking, that would mean that we are separate from ourselves in order to make that observation.
This is not the case, which leaves only one other option. Our individual consciousness has to be a part of something greater than itself; the proverbial drop of water in an ocean of consciousness, which begs the question, where does the ocean start and the droplet end?
They don't.
I am you, you are me, I am everything, and everything is me, so you are everything, and everything is you by default.
If you are still with me, then I am growing on you, but the truth of it is that I have been here all along.
What is growing is your awareness of me.
The more you ponder me, the more you find yourself struggling to define something that is ubiquitous both inside and outside of anything you have ever known or experienced. Like the infinite amount of drops of water in the ocean, there have been many attempts to define just what I am, but the reason I defy description is because I am definition itself.
Critique: A unique blend of cognitive psychology, New Age spirituality, personal transformation, and self-help guide, "I Am Consciousness Incarnate" by Matthew Pallamary is an inherently fascinating, iconoclastic, and thought-provoking read from start to finish. While also available for personal reading lists in a digital book format (Kindle, $2.99), "I Am Consciousness Incarnate" will prove to be an appreciated and idiosyncratic pick for personal, professional, community, and college/university library Metaphysical Studies lists.
Editorial Note: Matthew J. Pallamary (https://mattpallamary.com/aboutmatt/author) has had his works translated into Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Norwegian, French, and German. His historical novel of first contact between shamans and Jesuits in 18th century South America, was titled "Land Without Evil". It was also adapted into a full-length stage and sky show, co-written with and directed by Agent Red and performed by Sky Candy, an Austin Texas aerial group. The making of the show was the subject of a PBS series, Arts in Context episode, which garnered an EMMY nomination.

Hey there! First time actually doing a public ask *whoop whoop*. So as you already know, I recently got a short story published by an online literary magazine. Obviously, this means I got it traditionallily published, but I know that people self publish their short fiction as well (including you). That made me curious about the self publishing process for short fiction, so I was hoping you could talk answer a few questions about it. How does publishing your short fiction differ from your novel-length work? What’s the difference in marketing? Do you bundle your stories in collections or just sell them on their own?
Yay! Love these things. Let's have a go at this - keep in mind, this is all my personal experience/strategy. It works differently for everyone and I've learned from others and pulled from many others. Also keep in mind that I publish exclusively through Amazon (thus, I take advantage of Kindle Unlimited). These price points and discussions are all about ebooks. Print pricing varies drastically and I won't go into the nitpicks of formatting and such for pricing, especially if we're talking about short stories (there is a minimum page number for Amazon to publish a paperback, so short stories are usually not included here unless in a collection).
1. The difference between self-publishing shorter fiction versus novels
Short answer: price and genre. Shorter works are reflected in the $0.99-2.99 range (lower price for romance, higher price for high fantasy). Full length novels range $3.99+ (though I stick to my guns with $4.99, explanation to follow)
Long answer: There is no difference in how the story is published. No matter the length, you still need a title, a cover, a blurb, and a place to purchase the story.
Price reflects length of the story. It's incredibly common in the self-publishing world that shorter stories are priced lower. I have three short stories that are listed at $0.99. Those range from 6K-15K words and are each standalones - they have no greater purpose outside the single story. I have also published a serial (10 stories that range from 15-30K each). Because those are part of a series and are very intricate, I price those at $2.99 each. Finally, my novel works are listed at $4.99, regardless of genre. The lowest word count is 70K and the highest is 120K (and each are relevant lengths for the genre they are involved in).
I value my work, which is why my novels sit at $4.99. Were I publishing a longer book, I would consider what other books in my genre are pricing for similar length.
(read the other two answers below)
2. How marketing is different between shorter and longer fiction
A challenging question to answer because it varies by genre. In short, the only difference in marketing for me is the audience I target. My shorter works are romance, and thus I target romance readers. My novel-length works are YA fantasy / magical realism, so I target that audience specifically. My serialized story is high fantasy and thus I focus on that audience.
The other important detail is that I am very clear what the length of each story is - through blurbs, marketing, and price. Price being the most critical. I have set the expectation with my readers that certain price points reflect the length of the story. They will not pay $4.99 for a story that takes them twenty minutes to read and then be pissed. Whether you choose to clarify the stories as episodes, shorts, or full-length via subheadings is up to you, it's critical to try your hardest to convey the length beforehand.
While I have many notes surrounding my work about the specific lengths of each book, and I clearly specify the length in some way on the purchase page, I sometimes receive reviews that someone expected a full-length novel and didn't get it. These people will always exist, but you have to let those negative reviews roll off your back if you've done everything in your power to specify. That is out of your control.
3. Bundling stories in collections
Ah, the age-old conversation about cannibalizing your sales.
Let me clarify. I publish all of my short stories and episodes as individual books. My romance shorts remain as standalones and will not be grouped in collections.
My episodic series, however, has three separate collections for the ten episodes. The decision to publish them as collections comes because the individual stories are too short to publish as paperbacks (and I have an audience that demands paperbacks *cough cough, my mother* (but also others)). Therefore, I publish paperback collections that come out much later than the stories are released.
Why? Cannibalizing your series.
If people are still purchasing and reading your individual books, let them continue! By releasing a collection, those individual books are essentially eliminated because people would rather buy the collection rather than spend money on three different books. The rule of thumb that many follow is to release a grouping of stories after you've seen a dramatic decrease in the downloads/purchases of the individual books. That can be after months or years. It all varies. Just understand that when you go for a collection after you've had the individual stories out, you're cutting into your profit.
Collections, not individual stories
There's also the option of collecting a few stories that are related to each other (by genre, topic, etc.). The idea is that if you publish it as a collection rather than individual stories, you can charge more for the 'book' of them. People think "oh, I get four stories for the price of one book", or something similar. It reduces the marketing, plus reduces any fees you might have for cover design and other self-publishing costs that you might be outsourcing. It's an incredible option if you have a few stories that are related but not entirely long enough to justify publishing as several different individual options.
I hope that helps! Keep in mind, this is my own take on the questions. There are other self-published authors who will do things differently. Take what works for you and mold it into something that fits the business model you're going for.
I'm a full time author. I do all of my own marketing, editing, design, and grunt work. I don't outsource anything, which means I have the time and skills to do all of this. I make the business decisions as a self-published author. I also come from a history of marketing experience, two advanced degrees, and a desire to learn and develop my skills. I say this, not to brag, but to say that it's a tough road to do all of this yourself. It's not all writing when you choose the self-publishing route.
It's rewarding - it's the best thing in the world, actually - but I choose to do all the things because I've learned to love all the things.

House Hunters International, iTunes, and Me
My family and I are fairly big fans of House Hunters International. My kid enjoys the various American-abroad cliches:
Guess we won’t be making Thanksgiving turkey in THIS oven…
This refrigerator is like a dorm fridge!
We need 5 bedrooms for the two of us, and all the friends and family we’ll have coming to visit.
We generally watch episodes for places we’d like to visit or actually live. Part of that is research into what the area’s scenery is like, or what one might get for $1,000 (or $5,000; I’m looking at you, Switzerland) per month.
Since the flow of new HHI episodes nearly dried up during the pandemic, we started re-watching old episodes. Our TiVo wasn’t picking up very many old episodes, so we checked the streaming services we have.
There was nothing on Netflix. The HGTV app on AppleTV had some back episodes from Seasons 139 through 152, so we watched those. Hulu has Seasons 129 through 153. We watched those. I’ve no idea why Hulu doesn’t have more seasons. I also have no idea why Discovery+ has no episodes at all. I’m guessing the answer is money”, as it always is to questions of rights and who holds them.
I had long ago purchased some “Best of” packs from the iTunes Store. The “Best of Italy Vol. 1” spans episodes from Season 10 through Season 61, which is roughly 2009 through 2013.
In order to find more episodes and seasons that I’d like to buy, I first made a spreadsheet of all the “Best of” episodes, and what season and episode those corresponded to. Then I started looking for seasons that would be interesting enough to buy whole, as opposed to just buying a few episodes here and there.
That’s when things got a little weird.
Looking on my iPhone in the iTunes Store application, I searched for “House Hunters International”. The search results show different sets of results for “TV Seasons” and “TV Episodes”.
Under “TV Seasons” there are a couple of “Best of” seasons, but not “Best of Germany” or “Best of The Netherlands” that I already own. The iTunes Store also has seasons 22, 50-53, 80-96 (except for 89 and 91), and a sprinkling from 134 to 152. I’m somewhat curious about the missing seasons in the middle of other seasons. What’s up with that?
Under “TV Episodes”, instead of the super-long list I was expecting, I only see around 40 episodes, in some random-is order that I can’t fathom. They’re from seasons 81, 53, 51, some Best of seasons…
Let’s move over to the “TV” application, which also allows searching for and purchasing TV episodes. Searching for “House Hunters International” and clicking on the appropriate result gives us a spiffy page with a popup from which to pick seasons.
One might expect the seasons to match those of the iTunes Store, but no. In the TV app, you can find episodes from seasons 4, 6, 10, 12, up through 167; a whole bunch that aren’t available in the iTunes Store. What’s going on? I don’t know.
But it gets weirder.
Let’s take the macOS version of the TV application: at the bottom of the page is a “Buy Seasons” image, with the text “98 SEASONS” underneath.
Tumblr media
The list of seasons you get when you click that starts with “Season 1” and the subtitle “4 Versions”. That item costs $19.99. Clicking on the “Season 1” item shows that it contains seasons 33, 32, 36, and 35, in that order. Individually, those have prices of $19.99. I think that means you could buy “Season 1” and get four seasons, but I haven’t tried it, mainly because I already own three of those seasons.
On my iPhone, “Buy Season 1” only shows “2 Versions”, which contains seasons 32 and 35. “Buy Season 78” ($14.99) contains Seasons 32 and 35, each $19.99.
But wait! It turns out that if you scroll the “2 Versions” or “3 Versions” text off the screen, it shows up on a different episode, and when you scroll back, it’s gone from whatever episode it had been on. This feels like a UITableViewCell cell reuse bug, but what?
More weird: Seasons 75 and 145-148 are labeled “Buy Season 75 Pass” instead of just “Buy Season 75” as the others are.
But what if you want to buy Season 60? It’s not available from the “Buy Seasons” dialog (on iPhone; it’s available on macOS?!). Oh, no!
Instead, go back to the HHI page, use the popup to view Season 60, tap on an episode like “California Dreaming in Italy”, then tap “Buy from $2.99”.  From there, you get the option to either buy the episode, or buy the entire season.
This is all crazy pants. Enough for now, though. I have to go watch what properties Adrian, Richard, and Kevin have to show next.

Paul Mikel, CEO of Snap Delivered Reveals How To Save Restaurants Money On Food Delivery Service On The Trust Factor Radio
https://authoritypresswire.com/?p=38202&wpwautoposter=1629766956 On a recent episode of The Trust Factor Radio with Neil Howe, Paul Mikel, CEO of Snap Delivered, discussed How To Save Restaurants Money On Food Delivery Service. According to Mikel, Restaurants have been hurting since the lockdowns. The delivery industry has been booming, however, restaurants are being squeezed out of profits by big delivery companies with their high commission fees. Restaurant delivery service is a relatively new sector of the restaurant industry, but over the past few years, it has grown to a $100+ Billion dollar industry where some big names like Doordash, Grubhub, and UberEats control most of the market. Forbes predicts by 2025 restaurant delivery will double to over $200 billion and the recent restrictions from Covid19 have only increased that velocity. Mikel said “I started realizing restaurants were getting charged 15% to 30% on every order. On a $100 order, they're paying $15 to $30 before it ever leaves their place. I didn't understand how restaurants could do that. I didn't think it was a long-term viable business, because I didn't think the restaurants were going to pay that 15 to 30%. They might do it at the beginning. They might do it for a while. But sooner or later, it was going to be something they didn't want to do anymore.” When host Neil Howe asked, What other fees do companies like Uber Eats, Grubhub, and Doordash charge? Mikel answered, “They put fees in any place they possibly can. I'll give you an example. I have friends of mine, who are actually restaurant owners. They were testing out other delivery services because they were going to invest big time in our company to help us in our growth and expansion. They said, Paul, look at this, it says that their delivery fee is only $2.99. And yours is $5 per delivery or $10 a month. I said, Well if it's $10 a month, and you do 10 orders that brings it down to $1 an order. And most people that order delivery order over and over and over. But, I said let me look at your receipt. They showed me the receipt. It was a $48 order. I said let's round it to $50 just for you know argument's sake. I said look at the taxes and fees line. Taxes and fees were $13.72. I said, What's your tax rate in your area? They said 7%. And I said so your sales tax, 7% of $50 is $3.50. Right? There's another $10 and whatever change that they're charging you that you don't even realize because it's in taxes and fees. So you just look at it and go on. So essentially, they're charging you that $2.99 plus the $10, you're $13 on a delivery fee. Plus, you don't even know if they raised the price of the food. There are all kinds of ways that they hide things in there. And not all of them do it, but most of them do. ” During the interview Mikel shared that they are looking for independent reps to share their business, explaining, “We want to have local people available that if there's a problem with an order, or something needs to be done we want somebody locally that can go there and fix it, but we also want to build a nationwide network of people. Instead of hundreds of millions of dollars going into advertising, which is how the big, funded corporations get their customers, we wanted to have independent reps. So an independent rep can get started with us and they can start building their own book of business by sharing with local restaurants, drivers, and customers.” The interview concluded with Mikel saying “We are looking for sharp, motivated individuals who may have contacts with restaurants, or are willing to contact restaurants. Some may own restaurants if they're watching or listening to this or manage restaurants. We want to be the company that comes out and helps save the restaurants because a lot of them have been through a lot of bad things over the last couple of years. But, delivery is not going away. It's becoming bigger and bigger every day and we are going to be a major player in it. We're going to do it the right way.” Paul Mikel is an entrepreneur that has started many successful multimillion-dollar businesses. He is now in the restaurant delivery space using the same business model to offer restaurants a better deal and to save them money on delivery fees.  Snap Delivered business model also helps to grow local economies by keeping the money circulating locally instead of heading to big corporations.  To listen to the full interview on The Trust Factor Radio, visit https://businessinnovatorsradio.com/snap-delivered-ceo-paul-mikel-shares-new-restaurant-delivery-service-business-model To learn more about Paul Mikel and Snap Delivered, please visit https://snapdelivered.com

Media Journal Week of July 16-22
Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception
My love for the Ace Combat series is deep. Shattered Skies remains one of my favorite games of all time for its depiction of an occupied city from the perspective of a child who has grown up and is writing about his life during this troublesome time. The Unsung War is one I haven’t played as much or as recently, but I have fond memories of the tight group of fighter pilots you form progressing through its very long campaign. Ace Combat X has a story that has failed to engage me so far, but makes adjustments to gameplay missions that are keeping me interested. A special weapon requires you to keep the target in your reticule until it makes contact, which is suddenly a much more engaging mechanic than the simple lock on system. Missions require you to avoid enemy radar, defend sections of a ground force, eliminate enemies with on and off radar/lock on capabilities, and wipe out the enemy before they can make it to a certain location. This variety has already gone far and beyond above previous entries in the franchise, and make the portable entry feel like it wasn’t held back by the hardware, even if the missions do feel like they contain way less enemies and dole them out in waves during specific ones. The narrative from the civilian perspective this time involves a journalist who seems a bit resigned to his post covering a one sided war that is just now tipping in favor of my playable character’s nation. The journalist discovers the poverty the rogue nation is experiencing is fueled by their leader siphoning foreign aid into the military and pushing war as a means of funding his own production company which, sure, I guess nobody else found that out beforehand. It feels early and that there is still more ground to cover, but it lacks the immediate engagement of Shattered Skies, whose introduction had our narrator treat his parents deaths as passively as Yellow 13 did when he shot down the fighter that crashed into their home.
Demon’s Souls
I still laugh whenever I think about the title. Due to playing Dark Souls with Trevor for a video series I have been itching to spend more time with that series, but can’t with Dark Souls since that is cheating so after watching hbomberguy’s video on Dark Souls 2 and some other ancillary media I ended up booting up a new game in Demon’s Souls whose servers have been put to rest. Nevertheless I found myself enjoying the game and cutting through the early content at a much better pace that I expected, mostly thanks to a two handed Bastard Sword, my latent knowledge from my original playthrough, and the occasional guide hint from my phone. I made it through 1-1 and 1-2 with relative ease, got to the boss of 2-1 after some difficulty and decided to start 3-1 and made much more progress by myself than I ever had before. Something hbomberguy discussed was about playing the game “right” which wasn’t so much a disdainful statement towards those who are playing “wrong” but more about adjusting the way you play depending on what the game is throwing at you, such as when and when not to use a shield, lock on, dodge rolls, etc. This is why I chose a Barbarian class to start out instead of the usual shield and armor focused classes I always gravitate towards. As soon as I found a two handed weapon I knew I wanted to try to take my armor-less barbarian as far as she could go using large weapons and rarely holding a shield up. And its worked out pretty well. Despite dodge rolling sometimes feeling a little cheap, such as getting hit when dodging backwards more often than not, I still have found that I like making my way around enemies for openings more than blocking and attempting parries with a shield. I still have one on-hand in case of emergencies but I would say a large majority of my playthrough has been either two handed or with a catalyst for soul arrows in my left hand.
Final Fantasy VII
This was also inspired by another source, this one being the Abnormal Mapping two part episode covering this PlayStation classic. I’ve always had a fond love of Cloud’s adventure, especially the first disc, and decided to start a new game on my PSP in order to relive that magic once again. The beginning sections are as charming as I remember, and also remind me how silly the game can be. The sprites aren’t exactly the most detailed and rely on exagerrated movement to show emotions. This is mirrored by the dialogue. Wedge, Biggs, and Jessie continue to endear me with their attempts to break through Cloud’s tough guy facade. They’re so genuine in their mission as well as their attempts to befriend someone who, even when I choose the less mean dialogue options, still comes off as aloof. That is what makes their loss so impactful when it happens, Cloud never truly opened up to them even though that was all they desired was another friend for their group. Jessie and her gadgetry, Biggs and his own tough guy facade, Wedge who wore his feelings on his sleeve. These were characters I liked and wanted to learn more about and see succeed in their goals, but instead they get killed off by Shinra and are never really mentioned again, another casualty of Avalanche’s war. It even manages to fit this loss into the tone, which can very often get silly as I previously mentioned. Things like Cloud’s crossdressing quest where he scavenges female clothing items from various individuals throughout the wall market have humor to them, even if the actual crossdressing is treated as just something people do without unnecessary judgement from those aiding you. Barrett punches Biggs into the camera, the weapons shop at the intro has various characters referencing the gamepad and save points and treasure chests talk directly to the player explaining their purpose and function. While a majority of the mood, as supplemented by the music, can be very melancholy, it also makes time for more lighthearted affairs which I really appreciate.
Rage
I finally booted up Rage. I’m not quite sure why. I own it so I guess I should get my $2.99 worth out of it. I think the installation was longer than my playtime overall. I played the introduction and the bandit hideout mission. It was okay. That texture pop-in really is a bitch though. The movement feels good even if the pistol feels like it has no bite to it. I’ll get back to this one eventually.
North by Northwest
Another Hitchcock film where a hapless advertising man gets mistaken for a spy and gets involved in some hijinks. Holds the annoying feature I also didn’t like in Vertigo where some woman instantly falls in love with our male lead for no real reason other than the plot demands it. Even then the plot doesn’t really demand it, it just happens? Despite that North by Northwest is still enjoyable even if it seemingly goes on for so long. We reached what I thought might end up being the wrap up but it just continued onwards. Watching Cary Grant bumble around was a lot of fun, especially considering he didn’t even understand the script which Hitchcock loved apparently. The part early on where he is driving drugged is really hilarious. A Fun Fact TM Catelyn informed me of was that Grant is left of center frame for pretty much the entire film, which I feel has some deeper meaning to it but I have’t found or thought of anything yet to explain it.
Godzilla King of the Monsters
They’re making another Godzilla film and the first trailer released and its, fine. The monster on monster action looks like it will be good, as does the shots showing the size of the monsters when compared to humanity which is neat with current CGI. Something I’m still not a fan of is the continued insistence to place human characters into these monster films. Godzilla (2014) suffered mainly for placing a character I couldn’t give a fuck about as the center lead and not giving Godzilla much time. This one is apparently seeking to rectify the latter problem but I’m not seeing much improvement for the former. For one instead of a generic white guy soldier lead they have a preteen who, wow if you wanted to go in the wrong direction you sure have done it. Also we have some women talking about how humanity is a sickness and the giant monsters are presumably nature reacting to remove us, which, is just them spelling out one of the major themes of Godzilla The Franchise: that Godzilla was nature’s reaction to humanity’s capability for destruction. Shin Godzilla’s interpretation has that haunting last image because it was evolving to become the most destructive force possible: its own twisted version of humanity. As a group working together we are capable of much good but also much destruction, and so Godzilla was evolving to take advantage of that power as well for our destruction, and we just barely managed to stop it in time. Shin Godzilla is so fucking good and I hate that most people focus on the silly looking 2nd form.
Speaking of Hideki Anno
Evangelion 3.0+1.0 teaser
Someone got offhand footage of a short teaser clip for Rebuild 4 showcasing Mari in her Unit with new rotating arms shooting and spinning above a red sea with the Next Time remix music playing. It gives a window of 2020 for its release, which, okay sure. I’ll believe it when I see it and the teaser itself doesn’t really do much for me. The Rebuild movies have been up and down. 1.0 is a good remake of the first batch of episodes. 2.0 does its own thing and I really love the finale for that one. 3.0 diverges greatly and I think is kinda a mess. It has been awhile since 3.0 though so who knows what the fuck Anno has planned for this next one.
I discovered this cut of a Return of the Jedi trailer that imagines a world in which David Lynch directed the third Star Wars film and its great.
I mentioned hbomberguy earlier but I wanted to point out his videos are really, really well done. Great editing and humor skits thrown in the midst of great analysis works on movies, games, and media at large. I especially loved his Serious Sonic Lore Analysis that features a very creepy but also hilarious cosplay.
Goodnight Moon has been putting out a bunch of ASMR videos if you’re into that (which I totally am). Her babblebrook series is fucking stellar and I am super invested in seeing whatever she does next with it.
I was reminded Firefest was a thing Mega64 thankfully attended.
I glanced through that Uncharted fan film and came away with the realization that those characters really are just tropes and whatever could be done with them has already been done over the course of five separate games.
Metric released their first single from the upcoming untitled Album named Dark Saturday and its pretty great.
JJJ in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films is the best.

Weekend PC Download Deals for June 8: Pre-E3 2018 Edition
For those who haven't heard, E3 2018 is next week. Shocking, I know, because I don't think anybody's mentioned it lately. But with that in mind, gaming retailers are looking to jump into either E3 sales or summer sales to take advantage of the annual gaming hype week.
Well, almost everyone, anyway. Steam is staying conspicuously low-key, with few sales this weekend. That's likely because that storefront is getting ready for its usual Summer Sale madness that normally kicks off later in June. So who's having the big sales in the meantime? GOG.com is leading the pack with its #SummerGaming sale, with Amazon, GamersGate, Origin, and the Ubisoft Store all trailing behind them. There are some good deals to be found on both recent hits and classics.
But also be sure to keep an eye on Green Man Gaming, which has Vampyr, the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, and other recent (as in, released in the last month) hits discounted right now.

Paul Mikel, CEO of Snap Delivered Reveals How To Save Restaurants Money On Food Delivery Service On The Trust Factor Radio
https://authoritypresswire.com/?p=38202 On a recent episode of The Trust Factor Radio with Neil Howe, Paul Mikel, CEO of Snap Delivered, discussed How To Save Restaurants Money On Food Delivery Service.
