Hello, it's me, lambroseforlife, finally posting after a while. This topic seems to be widely debated and it can be put to rest after seeing how Storm of Bells gives the final clue needed to piece together Mr Ambrose’s age throughout the series. It’s not stated outright but with the info given and some math, Mr Ambrose’s age can be figured out:

Storm and Silence, In the Eye of the Storm: 24 years old

Silence is Golden: 25 years old

Storm of Bells: 26 years old

Explanation: 

Storm of Bells, Chapter 34 reveals that Mr Ambrose left home when he was 15 years old:

In the Eye of the Storm, Chapter 4 reveals that Mr Ambrose hasn’t been home for about 9.5 years since he ran away from home:

This means that Mr Ambrose is 24 years old during In the Eye of the Storm. Since Lilly doesn’t get her first paycheck until chapter 8 for working a full month as his secretary, this means that Storm and Silence spans for less than a month. So Mr Ambrose is also 24 years old in Storm and Silence.

In Silence is Golden, Chapter 14, Lady Samantha tells Lilly that she hasnt seen Mr Ambrose for 10 years:

This makes Mr Ambrose 25 years old during Silence is Golden.

Silence Breaking and Hunting for Silence are a bit murky on the timeline since the exact date of Mr Ambrose’s birthday is never given but it is assumed he turns 26 years old sometime those books.

However, it is not confirmed that he is 26 years old until Storm of Bells, Chapter 1, where Lilly says that she has been working for him for over two years:

So yea, hopefully this should pretty much clear this up. Not outwardly obvious but the hints are scattered throughout the books subtly and just require extra attention to detail to pick up on. 

The details do become a bit murkier in the side stories, Before the Storm and Silent Night. In Before the Storm, he’s either 23 or 24 years old since it takes place right before Storm and Silence does. In Silent Night, he’s either 24 or 25 years old since it takes place in between In the Eye of the Storm and Silence is Golden.
