Got a weird brain thought about Highlandsshipping I wanted to drop here: None of the Pokemon Melli is associated with are necessarily conventionally pretty or cute, so now I am Imagining Ingo introducing him to his present day team, already used to people being disgusted by his Garbodor or freaking when they see Chandelure approaching for instance ... Melli takes one look at them and thinks they are the cutest Pokemon he has ever seen in his entire fucking life.

Extra points if Garbodor actually takes a liking to him pretty quickly , thus not smelling as badly to him and him being utterly confused about people complaining about the stank he can't smell himself. (Being around Skuntank may or may not have something to do with that too)

I had another thought… what if Melli just straight up can’t smell? I have a friend who legit has no sense of smell so it’s possible

Like imagine little Melli bringing a literal skunk back home excited to show off to his big bro Adaman the adorable black and white kitty he found and Adaman smelling him coming before he even sees him and then he sees his little brother cradling the stinkiest creature in the entire region. He’s pinching his nose as he’s asks, “HOLY SWEET SINNOH What are you doing with that thing, it smells like rotting trash!” and Melli is so confused because he can’t smell anything??? What is Adaman being so dramatic for???

Then some 25-30 years later Ingo is trying to steer clear of everyone in Jubilife Village because he knows he smells offensive after spending all day with the Sneasels ( he has been told this several times and he can smell himself and he doesn’t smell good ) He is on his way to take a bath before interacting with any more members of the human race, but before he can get home his boyfriend catches sight of him and starts towards him. Ingo is frantically trying to discourage him from getting close to him because he knows how stinky he is and he doesn’t want Melli to have to catch a whiff of this very unattractive scent, but before he knows it Melli is right next to him.

He expects him to make a comment about how horrible he smells and prepares to apologize and explain, but Melli’s nose doesn’t even so much as twitch. He launches into a story that he has apparently been waiting all day to share with him, and all Ingo can do is gape at him.

Eventually Ingo interrupts him. “Melli, listen… I want to hear the rest of this, but shouldn’t I clean up first? You can’t enjoy being in my presence when I smell this awful.”

In response, Melli laughs and puts a hand on his shoulder. “Oh, honey, I don’t care,” he says. “You see, I can’t smell.”

Ingo’s Garbodor absolutely adores Melli and Melli is sure to give it all the love and affection it deserves

I'm horrible because I like highland shipping. I really really do. But I only ever see it ending in tragedy with them both going their seperate ways.

I mean, the only way they'd be together is if Ingo stayed in Hisui, which means never seeing his brother or friends in the future again, or Melli going to the future, which means abandoning his role as warden and never seeing Adaman or his whole clan again. PLUS going to a completely different culture from his own and dealing with the knowledge that everyone he knew growing up was dead.

Like, dont get me wrong, I love this whole concept. Relationships that, legitimately, can't work out unless one or other of the people involved have to make a significant sacrifice are just delightfully heartbreaking and bittersweet.

I just can't see either being ready to surrender their current/former lives, and if they did, I can't see them being fully satisfied with the decision or free of lingering regret.

WELLP I have no idea whether the server I just joined was deleted or I managed to annoy them into kicking me out within my short four hours of being there, but!! I have made another Mellingo server! You know the joke that a cheezit would kill a pilgrim? That, but Melli with modern amenities.

First time using a shower? Transcendent. Ingo can't get him out and he's been in there for TWO. HOURS.

Hair conditioner? Skin care? Surely gifts from Almighty Sinnoh themself! Finally, the Great Melli can be as radient and silky-soft as he always knew he was.

MASCARA. This man has died and gone to heaven.

The trio and Melli go shopping and Ingo loses his boyfriend in Bath and Body Works, never to be seen again.

I imagine that Melli was a little wary of the shower in Ingo’s apartment at first because let’s face it, nothing is more intimidating than trying to figure out how to work someone else’s shower, especially if you’ve never used one before… but then after Ingo shows him how it works he uses up the entirety of their hot water in one go. It’s AWESOME. Like his own personal waterfall and on top of that the acoustics are amazing??? Ingo has to take a cold shower afterwards but he doesn’t mind because listening to Melli serenade him with his shower-singing was worth the trade off.

Melli would be absolutely transfixed by all kinds of beauty products. He and Elesa could spend hours at whatever the Pokémon version of Ulta is. The first time Ingo loses Melli in the department store, he freaks out a little and goes to customer service and asks them to make an announcement. A few minutes later, Melli shows up with no less than 10 bottles of nail polish, excited to show his boyfriend the pretty sparkly bottles of paint he found.

Now if he loses Melli in the store, he knows exactly where to find him.
