Lawyer's wig inkcap (Coprinus comatus)
My friend sent me these photos - from the start of their walk, and about 6 hours later when they had circled back round. Fungi show us such magical changes!

Lawyer's wig inkcap / Shaggy mane inkcap (Coprinus comatus), photographs taken 24 hours apart
These beautiful fungi, like many in their family, deliquesce into a black, inky substance as they mature in order to release their spores.
They are a decent edible, but as there was only one, I decided to leave it and come back the next day after packing up our campsite to see its progress.
