Cara Amsterdam, ti ho promesso una lettera d'amore, forse più una lista, in realtà, delle cose di te che mi han fatto innamorare. Prima di tutto, chi viene da te solo per fumare e per il quartiere a luci rosse, non ha capito nulla di te. Io mi sono innamorata perché sei facile, ma non come intendono loro. Sei facile da passeggiare, poche (e ripidissime!) scale e poche salite, le mie gambe hanno percorso chilometri senza rendersene conto. Mi sono innamorata di ogni tuo angolo, mai uguale a un altro. Come i tuoi abitanti, le loro mille lingue e mille colori. Nessun estraneo, strano o straniero. Mi sono innamorata della naturalezza con la quale di fianco a un teatro trovi un sexy shop, un ristorante argentino o italiano (più che in Argentina o in Italia!), un museo, un negozio di caramelle, uno di souvenir, un palazzo storico e un coffee shop. Nulla è proibito, ma tutto è chiaramente regolamentato. Mi sono innamorata delle case in barca. Mi sono innamorata di come i canali giocano con la luce, con la pioggia, con i colori dei palazzi. Mi sono innamorata dei palazzi storti. Che sembrano fuori posto, e invece no. Quelle linee storte sono la loro caratteristica più utile e intelligente. Mi sono innamorata della curiosità degli olandesi. Del perenne fascino che nutrono nei confronti del diverso. Del loro sentirsi comodi e a proprio agio in una città che, come Venezia, è un esperimento a cui pochi avrebbero dato un futuro. Mi sono innamorata dei tuoi palazzi, di piazza Dam, piazza Rembrandt, della Torre dell'orologio. Che sono diventati familiari subito, un tragitto casa-lavoro come fossi sempre vissuta lì. Mi sono innamorata della sensazione di futuro. Del girarmi e a ogni angolo trovare un cartello Cercasi Personale. Senza troppi giri di parole. E poi, mia bella Amsterdam, mi hai dato la possibilità di salutare il mio amico Ale, in uno dei posti che amava di più, invece che a un funerale.
