It has been three months since you departed to your eternal abode, and my heart still aches for you more and more each day. At this very moment, I am occupied with my assignments, but memories of you consume my thoughts. I am writing to inform you about my academic progress - last term, I got a 4.0 GPA, a feat I never thought possible. Though I am known for my diligence, I must confess that there were moments of doubt due to my inadequate presentation skills. Nevertheless, I am grateful to have achieved this milestone.

I struggle to mend my shattered heart as I attempt to navigate life without you. The mere thought of speaking with you daily is a daunting task, but I know that it is essential that I move forward. Unfortunately, healing is a journey that will take time. There are instances when I am overwhelmed with emotion, and tears stream down my face before I can begin my work. I take a moment to compose myself before commencing my daily routine. I am fortunate to be able to work from home, and I am not inclined to socialize as of now. However, despite feeling numb inside, I try to put on a smile on my brave face. Bah, I miss you dearly.

Also, I would like to let you know that Kakak will return home with your grandchildren to pay their respects to you. It saddens me that you could not meet your little granddaughter, Jannah, in person, but I believe Allah has a grander plan. Bah, you will forever remain in my heart, and I will continue to offer up prayers on your behalf.

In loving memory of Tawana McGowan who lost her life in a senseless act of violence on the morning of January 11th 2010.

McGowan had just finished a late shift and arrived home around 8:30am to take her 10 year old son to school. McGowan was approached by an individual who shot her twice (in the head) in her driveway before fleeing in a car.

McGowan’s 10 year son was the first to find his mother lying in a pool of blood face down in the snow. Although McGowan’s ex (their child’s father) is considered a “person of interest” there have been no arrests and the killer remains at large.

In 2019 the family put up a $2500 reward for information pertaining to the killing of Tawana Alisha McGowan; who was 31 years old at the time of death.

Family and friends believe the Redford Police Department’s lack of questioning and reasonable pursuit for the killer have caused the case to go cold to the point of being closed as unsolved. A petition was started June 5th 2020 along with a gofund me page in efforts to have the case reopened, and handled properly in hopes that McGowan’s justice will finally come.

She is not just another (black) face; she was a mother, a wife and a good friend – Justice for Tawana! #justicefortawanamcgowan

I had a good cry yesterday. I felt so lost because I don't know if I can make it into adulthood without any guidance. I'm so used to having my dad around, telling me what to do and how to figure out life. Now, I need to figure things out alone. I really miss him so much. I cried my heart out like a child, and there was the love of my life trying to console me.

I need my dad to advise me on so many levels. It's already been a year and a half, but I'm still the same. I don't know how to move on. People might think I take the longest time to grieve, but grief has no timeline. Even though I know dad is no longer around, I know I need to hold on. I will always carry him in my heart and within myself. I just need to look over my shoulder and think that dad is always with me. I carry his legacy. I carry his name every day. I am my dad's child. I am my dad's daughter.
