The Hidden Strengths of Insecure Attachment | Psychology Explained
youtube
Avoidantly attached people aren’t emotionless. They’re survivors of emotional chaos. If you learned to shut down, stay distant, or become hyper-independent… It wasn’t because you didn’t crave closeness. It’s because closeness felt unsafe. Your psyche said: “If I stay distant, maybe I’ll stay safe.” That wasn’t weakness. It was strategy. Insecure attachment—whether anxious or avoidant—isn’t a flaw. It’s your nervous system protecting you the best way it knew how. You weren’t broken. You were adaptive. And that same brilliance can now guide you toward secure, nourishing love.

Did you know…. “Trying to be a “perfect” parent is actually linked to anxious insecure attachment quality…. So “Good Enough” is actually better than “Perfect” from an attachment perspective .” J. Milburn What does that mean? It means that balance and grace aren’t just bonuses you try to give yourself, they are mandatory and necessary with Responsive Parenting. Really, it’s about being responsive to yourself, as well as your children. It really is necessary. If you are feeling overwhelmed with your role as a parent, most minutes of most days, you may be trying too hard. Sitting down and reflecting on what aspects you can give yourself more grace in, can actually help you to meet the needs you do think are most important, more effectively. Every parent who I mentor is trying 10 x harder than I ever do at this parenting thing. Many of you are trying to follow every recommendation you find, and so many contradict each other. A parent who is constantly doubting themselves may not be providing that secure base a child needs. Consistency can look very different for every home. As an example, we don’t believe in fighting about bed time so our children mostly go to bed when they want to. People contact me wanting me to tell them how to get their child to WANT to go to bed by 7:30. It’s hard to have it both ways. Often you have to choose one or the other. We choose no battle and late bedtime… maybe you choose battle and earlier bedtime… see it can look very different from home to home. Repeat after me: “I am enough, I was always enough, I always will be enough and being “good enough” is better than being “perfect” @responsive_parenting #responsiveparenting #jmilburn #attachmenttheory #secureattachment #anxiousattachment #insecureattachment #attachmentstyles #attachment #goodenoughparenting #goodenoughmother #motherwound #innerchild #innerchildhealing #iamenough https://www.instagram.com/p/CQOK26KnIPv/?utm_medium=tumblr

[😞] Insecurity - We've all been there but what does it mean to you? How have you overcome your insecurities? ⭐I've felt insecure in different ways throughout my life. ✅ Financially - I grew up in an immigrant household. My parents worked factory jobs when I was young. I didn't grow up with luxuries at an early age which impacted my money mindset. I've had to rewire my money mindset which has helped me grow immensely. ✅ Body positivity - I felt quite ugly throughout my teen years. Being a South Asian child and teen in the city of Kitchener wasn't easy. I was often made fun of for the way I looked, how I dressed. I continuously tried to hide my true myself and tried to fit in as much as possible. Resulting in people pleasing behaviour. I had to reprogram myself to become confident in who I am. And not to mention my glow up and owning who I am, COMPLETELY. Not to say I don't feel insecure at times still but I'm able to manage my insecurities much better. ✅ Relationships - I've felt insecure in relationships for much of my life. Being in various toxic relationships (family, friendships, romantic) I've become an expert in this area. Needless to say, I had also contributed to the toxicity in the past. I had to dig DEEP here to change the patterns of relationships in my life. I had to begin with myself. This was extremely difficult but I am much happier today. I'm proud of the relationships I have and value them dearly from the heart. If you struggle with insecurity, you can get passed it. Insecurity was deeply rooted in my past. It is possible to be at peace and secure in who you are. Zoombombing, Tiger King, Kittens in Heat – Is Your Family Driving You Mad During Lockdown? This might be why
Now that we’re all home and living with our significant others because of CoVid-19 aka the coronavirus from Hell, it’s making some of go a little… Well, a little crazy. Why is this? Here we are housebound with the people we love with all our hearts and suddenly just listening to them breathe is making us want to throw knives when we really should just be so thankful that we’re not sick.
Are…

Intellectually stimulating and many thought provoking takeaways from today's 'Narcissism, Guilt & Shame' Seminar. In distinguishing between a healthy sense of narcissism and pathological narcissism, research shows the answer is in how 'the self' is shaped in childhood. Further, the influence of secure and insecure attachments in childhood is contributing to the problem. When a child feels they need to contain and validate the parents feelings [parents own narcissistic tendencies], it can in turn derail their own self-esteem and may lead to pathological narcissism as adults. This conversation isn't going away. Hubristic pride is flourishing and this is encouraging a rise in insatiable, enraged & empty human beings. It is no wonder mental health is rising. Speakers: Anne Manne, Frances Thomson Salo & Jan McGregor Hepburn. It feels like there is a hole in my chest when I'm separated from anyone I become too close to. There is this fear that they won't want to see me again and that they mean much more to me than I do to them. Sometimes these thoughts mess up the entire relationship, but I dont know how to stop them. I hate this.

Biggest Misconception with Secure Attachment!! “If your child cries when you leave the room, it is usually a sign of secure attachment.” J. Milburn I don’t know where this misconception came from but a securely attached child will often signal in some way that they don’t want their attachment figure to leave. It also does not harm your attachment to leave. What can harm your attachment is avoiding those feelings by sneaking off (your avoiding your feelings, not theirs). Also being dismissive and invalidating of those feelings: “don’t be silly, I’ll be right back.” Or “stop crying! It makes mommy sad when you cry. You don’t want me to have a bad day at work do you?” Another thing that can cause anxious attachment quality is if we are really worried and indecisive about leaving them with someone. This is why trust in who cares for our children matters so much because our children can feel our own hesitations. They can’t make sense of it so it just causes them to feel like “this place must not be safe, my parent seems super uneasy.” Instead validate and explain where you are going and when you will be back. A little goodbye and arrival routine that builds connection can be very helpful. Just a special hug/kiss thing or maybe they wave goodbye at the window, remind them of that routine: “I’m going to give you 3 kiss and two bear hugs then I have to get going to work. You can wave to me from the window. I know you are sad, love. I will miss you too. Mr. Chad has a snuggle for you, if you would like. You can cuddle your penguin too.” Then proceed with the routine regardless of reaction (I know… so hard 😭).
