M3 Diary: Neuro pt 10

You don't know that you've been following attendings/residents with awesome bedside manners until you are rotating with one with very meh ones (or a guy who had been in medicine since the paternalistic model and it shows).

(I'm so sorry to the awesome whovian WLW who had to put up with the neurologist basically telling her to stop taking all the medications and only take like 2 and then told her to lose weight. YIKES.

I just wanted to jump in and be like "hey we totally acknowledge that you're in pain and you have insomnia. But, a lot of the things you've talked about could be helped by adjusting your medications. For example, [ssri] is known to increase energy levels. People who take it at night sometimes report difficulty falling asleep. Hopefully, when we switch the medication timing, the insomnia will get better in a week or 2, and we can help minimize your [non-benzo sleep med] use as well and improve your sleep quality. We hope that that will then help further reduce anxiety, decreasing your need for benzos as well. We don't know what the diagnosis is with your [extremity] weakness right now, but we acknowledge that your symptoms are very real and debilitating for you. We hope to see you in person soon so we can do a more thorough physical exam, which may help pinpoint us to the next diagnostic step and figure out what's going on.

Also, just a heads up, [new medication] may cause weight gain. This is something to watch out for and adjust accordingly as needed.)

(Also that poor lady we saw later for neck pain. Hes not explaining whats going on and reassuring her at ALL, which was why she went to an acupuncturist who probably messed up her upper extremity nerves even more. GDI. Explain things to her. Tell us what we think so far and what next. Make her feel reassured, even if there is nothing to help with right now)

Doctor Who 50th trailer

I was half asleep, just browsing tumblr and for some reason I thought I was going to see another fan made trailer. BUT OH MY GOD! IT IS THE REAL THING!! And from that moment on, I just can't think of anything else. I can NOT wait for the episode. I am soooooooooo EXCITED!!! Rose is finally back, and probably as the Bad Wolf... I love it, I love it, I love it... I don't know how I will be able to sleep tonight from the excitement!!! On the downside, we are still 2 week away...
