“Go to him,” Giselle whispered as soon as the two of you stepped into your physiology class.

Heeseung was in the back, both of his airpods plugged in tightly to block out the noisy boys in the front row.

Hanni was in the middle row, talking to Seojun quietly. She looked up and down at you and Giselle, but didn’t say anything.

She didn’t have to. You already felt her coldness just from one glance.

“Hey,” you say, placing your bag on the seat next to Heeseung’s. “Do you mind if I sit here? I don’t want to be in the middle of their loudness.”

You motioned to the loud boys in the far left.

“Uh yeah, sure.” Heeseung scoots a bit over. “Y/N, right?”

You nod. “Yeah—the one from—”

“—the party.”

“The party.”

You both laugh when you realize you said that at the same time

“I’m surprised we haven’t talked before.” Heeseung says, taking off his AirPods.

Yes. You think. A step towards becoming closer with him.

“Yeah well, you’re not the easiest to talk to.”

Heeseung grimaces at your statement, but doesn’t say further. The teacher already enters the room anyway, so there was nothing you could do.

“I want you guys to pair up for a project regarding the integumentary system. Only groups of 2, no 3s.”

The room groans at the teacher’s sternness, and you can feel Heeseung physically tense.

“Are you gonna go with Hanni?”

Heeseung looks up, probably to see if she was looking back at him as some sort of confirmation.

She never did. Instead, her and Seojun were paired up, and by the looks of it, Heeseung was never in the equation to begin with.

“Guess not.” He shrugs, although you can see it bothers him. “Do you have a partner?”

You turn around to find Giselle already with a girl named Minjeong in the class, so you shake your head.

“Great.” Heeseung mutters. “Where do you want to work on it?”

You can’t do your place. At least, not yet. Heeseung would probably look down on you if he realized that you were on scholarship money for the school instead of paying the tuition yourself.

Although you know it’s not a shameful thing—you can’t help but feel embarrassed.

“We can actually work on it at my house on Sunday.” He says. “I have a party on Saturday. Do you wanna come?”

You’re surprised Heeseung’s even offering.

“Uhm sure,” you say shyly. “Can my friends come?”

“Yeah, the whole school’s probably already gonna be there.” He leans back against his seat, twisting his pencil around with his fingers. “It’s cause we have a big football game on Friday. You can actually come watch, if you’d like. We can work on it Friday after my practice too.”

Now you were in shock. No way Lee Heeseung personally invited you to his party and football game.

“I’ll be there.” You said, giving him a small smile.

Conversing with Heeseung felt so natural that you didn’t even realize the bell had rung. It wasn’t until Seojun slammed his arm into Heeseung’s jokingly that you snapped out of your trance.

“Let’s go,” Hanni says and Heeseung is up with a quick snap of her fingers. “Me and the others have a dinner arrangement at the Golf Court made by Dani’s parents.”

Heeseung waves a small goodbye to you before leaving behind Seojun and Hanni.

When the coast was clear, you and Giselle ran to each other, practically geeking.

“Be ready Saturday,” you tell her. “We’re going to Lee Fucking Heeseung’s party.”

okay but what is the state of astarion's kidneys? what has roisia observed in regards to astarion's kidneys? i must now know!

[Just a wee reminder that I'm not a medical professional. Take everything I say below with a grain of salt as I am just as likely to be flat out wrong. I also want to acknowledge that I'm mixing in some stereotypical vampire traits with what we can figure out about vampires in BG3.]

Roisia believes that Astarion has a partially functioning cardiovascular system. That is to say, he certainly contains blood. He bruises and he bleeds. He can even perish from exsanguination himself. He can experience erections (presumably, anyway). Why he doesn't have a heartbeat is beyond her. Does his blood just sit stagnant in his arteries and veins? What the hell is going on in there?

In the living, kidneys form a pivotal function: they filter the waste (urea) in your blood and create urine to be expelled from the body via the bladder. They also perform a critical function by regulating the blood in your body (volume, pressure, acidity, etc.).

So Roisia knows, for example, that the average medium-sized humanoid has roughly 5 litres of blood in them. The kidneys make sure you stay at whatever level is natural for you, because excessive fluid will increase the pressure on your arterial walls. So the question for Roisia becomes: if Astarion drinks blood to excess, would he experience hypertension or bloating? Or perhaps both? Or maybe neither?

In some form or fashion, the waste that Astarion intakes (e.g., if you're into the vampire version of menstruation sexy times, if he drinks from Roisia's external jugular, etc.) or generates through his own bodily functions needs to be expelled. Does he piss it out? Does he sweat it out? Does he vomit it out? Does it misty escape out of his body while he rests?

The answer could simply be: the waste is magicked out of his body and that's that. If Roisia knew that Astarion urinates, then she would assume his kidney is probably functioning to some degree. If his urinary system is non-functioning, then she would be curious as to how the critical functions mentioned above are managed or if they're even necessary at all for the undead.

TL;DR: Roisia would likely have some sort of idea, but I (IRL) don't have the information I feel I need to even hazard a guess. And I must say questions like this would make Roisia want so very, very badly to take a peek at his insides or at the insides of any vampire or vampire spawn. She is not a Dark Urge character, but that is her dark urge born from an insatiable curiosity to figure out how people—living, dead, or undead—work.

Bonus Points:

Roisia would answer her own questions above with the following theories:

Digestive system could be partially functional if the blood that is consumed is sent to the stomach and then absorbed in whole or in part through the digestive process.

Respiratory system is also likely partially functional. I.e., Astarion can use his lungs (to speak or sigh, for example), but neither a vampire nor a vampire spawn requires air.

Endocrine system is likely no longer functional. (This is my own headcanon so Roisia doesn't have to worry about an unwanted pregnancy.) She knows that the endocrine systems of a Vampire lord are likely somewhat functional due to the existence of Dhampyr. His colder body temperature could be the result of the lack of function of the hypothalamus.

Integumentary system is likely functional to a certain degree. E.g., vampires and vampire spawn are naturally regenerative, but if you were to shave Astarion bald, would his hair grow back to the way it was prior to his death? Skin also helps with temperature regulation and provides a barrier from UV radiation, so it may not be fully functional if his body is a colder temperature and is extremely sensitive to sunlight. (Are his melanocytes dysfunctional or dead?)

Lymphatic system is likely functional to some degree. This would assist the blood consumption + waste removal processes, presumably. It's a bit of a stretch, but since Astarion can experience a diseased condition type (e.g., Flesh Rot, Contagion), perhaps surviving that (after 25 turns) could be spun as an indication of a non-magical immune response?

Design notes for human guy! Yay! More under the cut

Before he came to Confibula, Human Guy was stationed on a moon in the same star system. It's an icy, slimy world that human settlers called Adam. Most of it looks about the same as an average earthly arctic region but with way more watermelon snow. I might redesign this suit later. Probably will.

After crashing sideways into a mountain range during a system outage he suffered injuries which got infected by the pink slime that grows everywhere. This cost him his legs, an eye and most of his stomach.

When he crashlanded on Confibula his suit was mostly destroyed but he came upon an experimental, highly invasive exploration suit from back in the day when humans occupied the planet. It's filled him up with wires that act as his new digestive system among other things keeping his organs from failing.

He probably can't take the suit off without killing him. Not that he would need to take it off considering confibula is an alien world with plenty of most-likely-scary-and-inedible-unless-modified molecules, but if he ever hopes to get rescued this might prove problematic.

My main rule for Human Guy is that he can't take off the suit unless he also takes off whatever he considers his body too. His eye doesn't count, neither does his blood, but his integumentary and musculoskeletal systems do. Instead, I depict him as a sort of human-shaped spectre holding whatever parts of him he doesn't wish to ignore together, like his legs and wires that have replaced many of his organs and most importantly the stains left behind from his infection which he believes will eventually come back to finish the job.
