De finale van de belangrijkste improvisatieprijs ter wereld is op vrijdagavond 19 juli in de Grote of St. Bavokerk in Haarlem gewonnen door Enno Gröhn. De drie finalisten Raphaël Oliver, Marcel Eliasch en Enno Gröhn die het strijdtoneel betraden, kregen op het fameuze Christian Müller-orgel twee improvisatieopdrachten uit te voeren. De jury prees het niveau van de improvisaties. Dit concours is de oudste en meest bekende wedstrijd van de wereld voor organisten. De drie finalisten werden goed op de proef gesteld en kregen een uur voor aanvang van het concert de twee opdrachten te horen zonder dat zij op een instrument mochten voorbereiden. Eén van de opdrachten was een improvisatie als voortzetting van een afgespeeld geluidsfragment (bron: Kokû – Vacuité). Daarna volgde eendiptiek op twee van de vier elementen; Aarde, Vuur, Lucht en Water, waarbij de deelnemer eigen thematisch materiaal moest ontwerpen die aan deze elementen gerelateerd zijn. De internationale jury bestaande uit Jean-Baptiste Robin (F), Berry van Berkum (NL), Zsigmond Scathmáry (H/D), Maria Alejandra Castro Espejo (Peru/NL), Monica Melcová (SK/ES), Ansgar Wallenhorst (D, voorzitter) heeft vanavond de Piet Kee-Prijs van €5.000 uitgereikt aan Enno Gröhn. Met deze juryprijs ligt de weg open naar een glanzende orgelcarrière. De publieksprijs van €1.000 euro werd ook uitgereikt aan Enno Gröhn. De beste improvisatie van het hele concours was te horen in de tweede ronde en werd gespeeld door Marcel Eliasch en Oene van Geel op viool. Marcel Eliasch won dan ook de prijs voor de beste improvisatie van het concours ten bedrage van €500 euro. Jury prijst niveau finalisten improvisatieconcours Juryvoorzitter Ansgar Wallenhorst: “The jury is very happy about the level of the three candidates. That has increased a lot compared to the last competition two years ago. And this year the interesting assignments gave liberty as well as responsibility to the young colleagues. For the jury it was important to listen how they develop their own ideas and come to a convincing architecture with rich musical inner life. The winner was convincing in the way how he reacted to the audio file and in his powerful and reflected expression of the two elements.” Orgelfestival nog tot en met 27 juli 2024 Op zondag 21 juli is er tijd voor jazz met een bruisend improvisatie-optreden van jazztoetsenisten en orgelliefhebbers Guus Janssen en Berry van Berkum in de Doopgezinde Kerk. Janssen en Van Berkum nemen een band mee met Fie Schouten (klarinet), Dion Nijland (contrabas), Vincent Courtois (cello) en Steven Kamperman (klarinet). Op donderdag 25 juli is organist Olivier Latry te gast. Latry is op dit moment één van de meest gevraagde organisten ter wereld, Latry is de vaste bespeler van het majestueuze orgel in de Notre-Dame van Parijs dat na de brand sinds april dit jaar weer bespeelbaar is. Latry geeft in Haarlem een unieke solo ‘celebrity recital’ op het monumentale Müller orgel in de Bavokerk. Het orgelfestival Haarlem loopt nog tot en met volgende week zaterdag 27 juli 2024.
