What Happens When You Assume
Summary: The others approach Patton with the idea of Remus coming to live with them.  But why are they so surprised when Patton is thrilled by the idea?
It wasn’t exactly a secret that Patton and Remus didn’t get along.  Patton didn’t love the ideas Remus came up with, and Remus didn’t like how uncomfortable Patton got at his ideas.  The two kind of gave each other a wide berth, but that didn’t mean Patton didn’t pay attention to Remus at all.
He saw when he started getting along better with Virgil, and how happy it made both of them.  He saw when he started doing experiments with Logan, and the way they both lit up at their breakthroughs.  He saw the way he started growing closer to and working with Roman again, and how much better Roman was doing as a result, and how much less stressed he was about his job.  He saw Janus being very happy that almost everyone was getting along with someone very important to him.  And so, with how much Remus was helping his family, Patton found himself very happy too.  He still wasn’t the biggest fan of Remus, and they didn’t spend a ton of time together, but Patton appreciated him.
He’d kind of thought that was good enough.
But he was apparently proven wrong one morning that he’d decided to make cookies for everyone.  Each of them had a favorite kind, and as he finished he put them on plates to cool.
On the left of the counter were Roman’s snickerdoodles, followed by Logan’s jelly cookies, Janus’ lemon cookies, Virgil’s double fudge, and finally Remus’ plain old sugar cookies, with the salt and sugar amounts swapped (Patton had asked Janus a while back).
He was eating the last of the few regular sugar cookies he’d made for himself, when a gentle knock came on the wall next to the entryway.
Patton turned and spotted Janus, who was leading the group of four that also included Logan and Roman and Virgil.
“Oh, hey guys!” he called happily.  “Perfect timing, I made everyone cookies!”
A dark look that Patton didn’t understand passed over Janus’ face for a second, and then he shook his head.  “Maybe later, Patton.”
“Are you sure?  I gave everyone a plate of their own, you can eat as many or as little as you want.”
“You didn’t give everyone their own,” Virgil snapped.  “But that’s not the point.”
“I… didn’t?” Patton turned to count the plates again.  One for Roman, one for Logan, one for Janus, one for Virgil, and one for Remus.  Had Thomas gained a new side while he wasn’t looking?
Or maybe they were thinking of Thomas?  Because unfortunately Patton couldn’t make him cookies, being imaginary and all.  He understood, though.  He was mad about that too sometimes.
“That’s actually exactly the point,” Janus said, and Patton turned back around.  “And we’re here to talk to you about it.”
“Oh, okay,” Patton said.  He headed over to the sink to wash his hands, since he was done baking.  “Is something wrong?”
“Yes,” Roman said, and Patton turned again in alarm.
“Oh no, what is it?”
“We’ve all been considering,” Logan said, slowly and seeming calculated with his tone, “having Janus move up here permanently.”
Patton lit up.  “You guys, that doesn’t sound like something wrong, that sounds like a wonderful idea!  Oh, you’re worried about moving everything.  Well, it will be a lot, but if we all pitch in, I think we could get the rooms cleared out in a day—”
“Patton,” Virgil snapped, and Patton jumped slightly in surprise.  “Janus coming up here means Remus comes up here too, you know.”
Patton blinked.  “Of course I do?” he said in confusion.  “That’s why I said get the rooms cleared out?  It wouldn’t be fair to leave him down there by himself.”
“Patton,” Roman said.  “I don’t think you’re understanding.”
“Okay, I’m sorry,” Patton said, feeling even more confused.  “What am I missing?”
“Remus would be up here all the time,” Logan said.  “He’s not going to be doing some strange routine where he comes back and forth.”
Patton gave him a baffled look.  “Right,” he said.  “That would be a really strange thing to make him do.”
“Patton,” Janus said, crossing his arms.  “We are warning you that you cannot kick Remus out the second he does something you don’t like.”
“What?” Patton asked in alarm, taking a step back.  “My goodness, of course not!  Why would I do that?”
“Because you don’t like him,” Virgil said, crossing his arms too.  “And you can’t treat that like it’s his fault.”
Patton stared at Virgil.  “What?”
“We’re aware that you don’t exactly love Remus,” Roman said, looking away slightly uncomfortably.  “But you can’t treat him poorly if he lives here.”
Patton blinked.  He blinked again.  He looked slowly around at everyone’s faces.  Roman looked a little uncomfortable and Logan looked like he was trying to seem understanding, but all of them looked completely serious.
“I— hang on,” Patton said slowly, stepping forward again to where he’d been before.  “Are you telling me you were all worried I was going to kick Remus out if he did something I didn’t like?”
“That’s what we’ve been saying,” Janus said, narrowing his eyes.
Patton turned to stare at each of them in turn.  “You… are you serious?”
“I believe we’ve made that clear by now,” Logan said, gesturing at his necktie.
“I—” Patton laughed slightly in shock.  “I don’t believe you.  You— you’re accusing me of—”
He stared at them all a second longer, and something in his chest pinched.
“You really are,” he said quietly.  “I don’t believe you.  Is that how little you think of me?”
That seemed to finally startle them.
“I… I’m sorry?” Logan asked.
“You really think I would treat Remus poorly just because I don’t like him?”
“You— you’ve done that in the past,” Logan said.
“Oh, so that means I learned nothing from your lecture about how trying to force Remus to stop doesn’t work?” Patton asked, and Logan’s eyes widened in surprise.
“And that was also when I thought Remus was dangerous,” Patton said.  “He tried to kill you onscreen, Logan.  How was I supposed to know that wouldn’t hurt you?  And now I’ve learned that Remus isn’t dangerous, and is just someone I don’t particularly like very much.  Am I not allowed to dislike someone without you all assuming I’m going to be cruel to them?”
He turned and looked around at everyone in turn, who all now looked thrown off guard.
“You know what else I’ve learned recently?” he said.  “I’ve learned that you all love spending time with Remus.  Virgil likes to watch horror movies and do spooky stuff with him, Logan likes to do science experiments and go down research rabbit holes with him, Roman finds it much easier and more fun to do his job if Remus is included, and Janus has loved Remus and has loved doing things with him for years.  Integrating him into all of our lives has made our lives better, and Thomas’ life better.  Why would I not be absolutely thrilled at the prospect of him coming over here and that trend continuing?”
Everyone was staring at him now, and Patton was trying to think of something else to say past the very sudden lump in his throat.
“I um,” he said, turning around to face the cookies.  “I think I need some time alone.”  He grabbed Remus’ plate of cookies and moved over to hand them to Janus.  “Here.  These are for Remus.  They’re his salt-sugar cookies.  I was going to give them to you to bring to him, and now they can be a welcoming present.  Please tell him I’m happy that he’s moving over here.”
He sank out to his room before anyone could say anything else, and locked his door for good measure.
“I really don’t want to talk to anyone right now, I’m sorry,” Patton called in response to the knock on his door.
“Well, unfortunately for you I’ve never cared about that,” called a voice from the hallway that wasn’t anyone from this morning.
Patton climbed up from his bed in surprise and walked over to the door, opening it to find Remus standing there.
“Hey Patty-cake,” Remus said, walking in without an invitation and sitting down on his bed.  “I heard what happened this morning.  Thanks for the cookies.”
“Um,” Patton said, sniffing and locking the door again after Remus.  “You’re welcome.”
He turned to face Remus and found him with a surprisingly serious look on his face.  “I’m sorry they did that,” he said.  “I would have stopped them if I knew they were going to.”
“It’s not your fault, Remus,” Patton said.
Remus didn’t say anything in response to that, but he did look curiously at Patton.  “Hey not that I give a shit Pat, but are you okay?”
“I mean,” Patton said, walking over to his bed and flopping down on his back next to Remus.  “It kind of hurts to know my family thinks that little of me.”
“Eh, they don’t think little of you,” Remus said, joining Patton in laying down.
“Yes they do,” Patton said.  “I just— I know I need to work on being more open-minded with things that make me uncomfortable.  That’s why I started doing it?  Did they just… not pay attention to that?”
“Who knows?” Remus said with a shrug.  “I don’t understand half of what you normies do.”
“Janus counts as a normie?” Patton asked with a curious look.
“Everyone’s a normie except for me,” Remus said with a grin.
Patton chuckled a little despite himself.
“Hey,” Remus said, and Patton glanced over.  “Trust me, when you let them talk to you again, they’ll be falling all over themselves with guilty apologies.”
Patton hummed in acknowledgement but didn’t say anything else.
After a minute, he looked over again.  “Hey, Remus?”
“Yeah?”
“If I ever did make you feel like I didn’t think you were worthy of taking up space, you’d tell me, right?”
Remus snorted.  “As if you could make me feel unworthy of space.  I own every space I’ve ever walked into.  And I’m not even Jeff Bozos.”
Patton wrinkled his nose.  “Ugh.”
Remus cackled.  “I know, right?  I hate him too.”
“I don’t hate anyone,” Patton said immediately.  “He’s just… not very nice.”
Remus cackled again.  “You’re priceless, you know that?”
Patton smiled at him a little.
“Yes, I’d tell you,” Remus said.  He grinned.  “Still don’t like you very much though.”
Patton bit his lip, but judging by Remus’ smile, he was okay to say his response.  “You’re not exactly my favorite side either, Remus,” he said, with a small smile of his own.
“And that’s okay,” Remus said, patting Patton’s shoulder firmly.  “We good?”
“Of course,” Patton said.  “You didn’t do anything wrong.”
“And I never do.  Thanks for the cookies.  See ya!”
Remus gave a little mini-salute and sank out of his room, and Patton smiled as he went, realizing he felt a little better.
How about that?

Patton and Remus Fluff, Pretty please with a cherry on top? 🍒🥺
Patton & Remus Fluff Headcannons
Here are some Patton & Remus Fluff headcannons as requested by @jumbo-bo on Tumblr. These headcannons are platonic Patton and Remus, but if you want to interpret them as romantic that’s fine too. The headcannons are a little more hurt/comfort towards the end, but they’re mostly fluff.
Content Warnings: mention of allergies (cat allergy), mention of a zombie cat (which has stitches on it), food and drink mention (in relation to the zombie cat not needing to eat and drink), mention of playing horror games, mention of having nightmares (Patton has nightmares, so I guess a bit of Patton hurt/comfort is here).
Click below the cut to read the headcannons.
—————————————————————-
- Since Patton is allergic to cats but really wants a cat, Remus decides to make a zombie cat for Patton. The cat isn’t a stereotypical zombie that eats body parts or anything. It’s basically a cat that doesn’t need to eat or drink to live. Patton is a bit scared at first by the cat, since it feels very cold and has some stitches on it, but the cat meows happily up at Patton and the moral side is immediately in love with the cat. Patton thanks Remus and decides to show his gratitude by letting Remus name the cat. Remus names the cat Frankie, like the character from monster high, since that series is one of the few not so scary monster related shows he and Patton can bond over.
- To bond with Remus, Patton tries to play some horror games with him. They are typically mascot horror games, because the mascot designs can be somewhat nice to look at, which makes playing the games a bit less intimidating for Patton.
- Patton gets Remus a onesie to wear to family movie nights in the mind palace. The onesie looks like a rat. It has little ears on the hood and a tail on the back. Remus likes it enough that he actually wears it to bed sometimes.
- When Patton has nightmares and just wants someone to listen to him vent about them afterwards, he goes to Remus. The creative side isn’t freaked out by the negative or dark thoughts Patton’s mind creates in the nightmares, so Remus is great at calmly listening to Patton’s retellings of them. Remus is also great at hugging Patton after he finishes venting. The moral side didn’t expect Remus to be a good hugger considering he lived with Janus and Virgil, who aren’t too openly affectionate. So Patton was pleasantly surprised by how comforting Remus’s hugs were.
- One day Patton asks Remus if he can give him a makeover. The moral side wants to try out a new style, and likes some of the casual punk outfits Remus wears when they aren’t filming Sanders Sides videos. The creative side excitedly agrees to the moral side’s request and gives Patton an outfit that can be considered pastel punk.
——————————————————————
End Notes: Thanks for reading! As always, if you like any of these headcannons and want to make a fanfic or fanart based on it, you can do so. You just need to ask me first, and then credit and tag me in the post so I can see it.

"Mike's relationship to sex, whatever it might actually be, is mostly the product of a geeky guy being catapulted right into the lion's den of rock music stardom, armed only with his good looks and awkward smile."
I understand your point, but I think this comes from before his fame in FNM, I believe he always had difficulty dealing with sex, if the rumors are true he lost his virginity "a bit late" (I don't think it's cool to judge each person's timing, but you understand), I believe it was when he was 19, and he himself said that it was because he finds sex a bit automatic and without much feeling, and I honestly don't think he was joking, I think he really thinks sex is a bit boring. I think that's it 😆 I always saw him as ace. but I believe that behind his thoughts regarding sex there must be deeper things that we don't know, because he is a mystery and never talks about his personal life, and 90% of what he says is banter, so we can't consider a lot of things he says... I don't think we'll ever know. Come here, Mike, tell us
I think we definitely agree - I suppose what I meant was that, without stardom, Mike would have just quietly and privately had a slightly awkward and maybe later blooming/later developing relationship to sex...like so many people do (I think??). For sure I think his younger self might not have seen the point to [vanilla] sex, maybe in a natural predilection for kink. And i guess that's where my gray-ace interpretation comes in...like...he's into it, but it's gotta be the right connection, the right person, similar "interests" if you get my drift....and those who qualify are few and far between. Otherwise, meh. But since he is in the public eye, it kind of gives him free range to be over the top sexual...in a strange way it can free him from being a vanilla hearthrob while also protecting(???) him from the normal groupie scene...like....chanting "fuck me" and asking if your mom wants to fuck you before singing about being raped in prison like...he might have thought....that'll keep the masses away....(lol he was wrong)

After Roman says ‘I thought I was your hero’ and Thomas says, ‘you are’, Roman looks over to Janus and Janus nods.
Tumblr media
Janus just told everyone his real name moments ago in order to prove that he is both capable of sincerity and willing to be honest with the other Sides so they can start seeing eye to eye. His glove is still off and he is currently in an uncharacteristically vulnerable position that he willingly put himself in. He nods to Roman as if to say "Yes, as the person intrinsically in tune with Thomas’s lying, I can confirm he is telling the truth."
But Roman is looking at Janus as the embodiment of Thomas’s deceit. He’s so used to being played and manipulated by Janus’s lies and faux camaraderie and has now become so on edge that he can’t understand how anyone else could possibly trust anything Janus is saying. He sees the nod as a confirmation that c!Thomas was lying about Roman being his hero and scoffs in shock and betrayal.
Tumblr media
c!Thomas looks utterly bewildered at this reaction,
Tumblr media
and Janus's smile fades as he realizes how Roman interpreted the nod.
Tumblr media
And when Patton says 'we love you', Roman assumes that's a lie too. In the Puzzle Song Roman needs to be reassured that no one hates him, heavily implying this is an underlying insecurity of his. Assuming this is the case, it wouldn't take much for him to believe Patton's 'we love you' meant just the opposite.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Roman's self esteem is so fragile that he takes the others listening to Janus personally. Because if Janus was right, that means Roman made the wrong call in sentencing Thomas to the wedding and doomed them all. If Janus was right, that means he let Thomas down- and it was revealed in Am I Original that Roman is terrified of letting Thomas down.
So now he's convinced (and let's be real, Janus's dig at him for making mistakes didn't help) that he isn't Thomas's hero anymore. Devastating stuff :)

!! SPOILER WARNING!! ⚠️
What if there was something more to Logan’s statement?
In the newest episode, “What Makes a Perfect Gift?”, when Logan hints to Virgil that he is disappointed with his newspaper, he makes a point to say:
“… there was obviously something about my personality that made you think a newspaper would be a proper gift for me, and whatever that is, I will have to reflect on that. This whole activity was to serve a higher purpose anyway.”
Thomas then assures Logan: “You’re doing good, Logan.”
They never discuss what exactly “the purpose” was. I also believe the wording of Logan’s statement was odd. This could just be a nod to his past history of disconnection with the group, but I believe it could be more.
I propose:
Could he be talking about the Orange Side?
I believe that “the aspect of his personality” Logan needs to reflect on could be a reference to Orange.
We already know that Orange and Logan are connected in some way, hence, the glowing orange eyes. They never discuss “the purpose” or “the aspect his personality” after it’s brought up.
Something about how Thomas said, “You’re doing good Logan,” tells me that Thomas, in some capacity, can see how much of a hard time Logan had. Janus and Remus obviously know about Orange, but what about the others?
Could it be that Logan is trying to keep Orange at bay?
Logan was the Side who ultimately decided to initiate the Gift Exchange. This is odd.
They even call this out when Roman says: “Logan, you’ve never run one of these things.”
Patton agrees with that statement saying: “Hey, yeah! It’s usually me or Roman. Wha-?”
Logan replies: “Well, things are a little different this year.”
Logan is trying new things and intentionally going out of his way to make sure Orange is not shown to the rest of the group.
He is making an effort to reconnect and get away from the one-dimensional “smart guy” stereotype because he can see how that can feed into Orange.
I would like to hear other people’s takes on this line. There are many ways you could interpret it, but it seems so cryptic that I might as well apply it to a theory of mine. Enjoy my over exaggeration of a small line. 💪💪💪

CW angst
The other day, I was making a photocomic, and one of the images I used, was this one.
Tumblr media
It is an image from the latest Asides episode from last Christmas, it's the moment right after Patton finally opens Janus' Christmas present, and right before that, Roman was scolding Janus for not giving Patton a proper gift and the endless loop of boxes, etc. Roman had given Janus the b*tch slap and all.
Roman was trying once again to do what was right, to defend his friends against the rudeness of Janus during all the Secret Santa session... and then that happens and Patton is so happy and thankful to Janus... and we see this face from Roman, devastated, sad, broken... it only lasts a moment but it truly shows his inner mood like a mirror, as I interpret it.
Once again, Roman is thinking of himself as a failure, and he's thinking again that all the others, but especially Patton, see Janus as a hero and him as a villain, and that still breaks him like nothing else, because in that face, you can see he's asking to himself: "If I'm not the hero, then who am I? What can I do if what I'm educated to do is no longer valid for them? Does that mean that I'm not valid anymore for them? Am I really the evil twin after all?" This all happens in a couple of seconds in the video, and then he puts himself together, raises up his facade of acting and puts a "show must go on" act.
You can only commend Thomas' acting, as always, cause he has been able to convey all of these emotions in this subtle and short emotional gesture. We can only hope that Roman can find his healing soon and that all his questions can find a satisfactory answer for him and for c!Thomas' benefit.

remus isn't dumb; a sanders sides essay
i've been struggling to make a cohesive post about this because i feel like most of what i want to say boils down to the same underlying message which is: remus isn't dumb.
i feel like a good chunk of this fandom understands what i mean, at least to a surface level point. but even then, i think too much of the fandom still misinterprets remus' character in a way that, they seem to understand different traits of his, but the way they execute it is still way off from what we see in canon.
(rest of the essay under the cut!)
for example, the biggest thing i see people get wrong would be the way they write remus "lol random" personality. it's true that remus tends to say whatever he wants at any given moment. but, the problem here is that people tend to think remus as random in function. i have no better way to describe this succinctly, so to expound: while remus tends to make left-field jokes a lot, he is shown to be incredibly deliberate, cunning, committed, and intelligent in very subtle ways.
truth is, remus is very goal-oriented, and when he has a goal, oh he strives for that goal. so far, i'm writing this with the last 5 years episode being the most recent substantial episode, so i can't really 100% say all my assumptions of remus are true. actually, i think the upcoming season finale will be the missing link when it comes to providing us with the whole picture of who remus is.
as for now, i just have to stick with my theory of; remus, as a side of thomas' heavily connected to insecurities and mental health issues, intends to shed light on the "darker" sides of thomas because he believes them to be beneficial. throughout dwit, we see remus continuously bolster the idea that his contributions are useful for thomas. this continues in wtit, but with the extra layer of remus wanting logan as well to be in touch with the darker parts of himself to get thomas in line.
it is also heavily implied that remus is well in on whatever janus' plan is to get thomas to be a.) more aware of his mental health issues, and b.) to get thomas to break out of his catholic black and white thinking. in forbidden fruit, it's janus who’s seen permitting remus to present himself to thomas. bigger evidence though, as i've mentioned in the previous paragraph, is the way remus seems to deliberately want logan to manifest his anger against thomas.
of course, we can always say that remus taunted logan "just for fun", but i feel like too much of what happened in wtit seem to point to remus having deeper reasons. for example, wtit exhibits how bad thomas' mental health is to the point that he gets irrationally angry at nico for not replying to his texts. this proves how thomas has been neglecting his mental health, and with the way patton, virgil, and roman held onto toxic selfless ideologies for the longest time, thomas would still, naturally, be lost on what to do. he would even seem to deny how bad things have gotten, especially with the way he acts like nothing bad is happening when he goes to his date with nico.
why am i emphasizing this? well, it's because something i find interesting about remus' character is how deeply cognizant he is of thomas' problems. what i mean by this is, no other side can call out thomas' issues more than remus can. i wrote an essay about this before if you want to check this out, but tldr: remus, as intrusive thoughts, is the most perceptive out of all the sides when it comes to calling out insecurities or problems. we see this come to fruition in wtit when all of the traps he laid out for thomas involved nico in some capacity.
while you can interpret his character as evil for preying on others’ insecurities, i think it's important to acknowledge that, in a sea of people who tend to refuse to talk about their issues, remus is the main guy who constantly brings them to the table. whether remus' intentions are good or not, there's no denying that remus' importance as a side lies in the fact that he serves as a mental health alarm clock for thomas. with the way none of the sides want to communicate with each other, we need someone like remus to cut the bullshit and say things as it is.
again, we don't really know if he wants to help thomas. but i would like to emphasize that, yes, remus is not dumb. he does not merely make lewd jokes and calls it a day. he has the long-term goal of making everyone talk about more "taboo" topics with each other, and this includes talking about personal grievances the sides tend to suppress or refuse to talk about. lewd jokes are just part of the process.
i think this goal of his is also incredibly visible with the way remus treated logan in wtit. wtit is my favorite sanders sides episode because there's just so much to analyze between remus and logan, but you can check my other essays in regards to that. the main thing i wanted to point out is that what remus says to logan in the end, "woowee logan, now you're speaking my language. but who do you really want to scream that at?", proves he is more deliberate and cunning than he seems.
a lovely bit of analysis my friend orb (@orbmanson7) provided is that remus didn't just pop up in wtit to intervene with thomas' plans. he was there to intervene with logan's. if you've seen my other essays, i've talked about how logan as a side has been dwindling in terms of self-confidence and assertion. this has left a big problem of thomas being more reliant on his emotions, making him ignore the suggestions given by logan that may help with thomas' mental health in the long run. this is not to villainize thomas' mental health crisis, btw. all i want to say is that, remus recognizes how logan's self-restriction is doing no good and deliberately wants to push logan to become more assertive and angry.
that is why he says logan is speaking his language. he wants logan to recognize the merit in the way remus grabs thomas' attention. he wants logan to be like him and cause more havoc. again, we never know how much remus genuinely wants to help thomas, but we know that remus wants everyone to be more exposed to "taboo" things, and this includes logan being more in touch with his angrier side.
besides that, i'd like to mention how, in general, remus tends to be very committed to his goals more than how the fandom typically portrays him? in dwit, remus' main goal was to disturb thomas and the other sides. it's kind of just an introduction to his character. we're not sure if it's part of a bigger plan he and janus devised to get thomas to take care of himself better, but it is a possibility. the only time he gets too random is when logan begins picking apart his arguments. there we see remus only results to super left-field, continuous off-tangent jokes when he's desperate or placed in a lose-lose situation.
another, in wtit, we see how remus understands how to make very long, complicated traps. i think it's a perfect encapsulation of his personality, actually! throughout the episode, we see him make these multilayered traps with a ton of props and preparation just so he can bother thomas with it. it shows that remus is actually less impulsive-oriented as he seems. he even created a schedule he showed to logan detailing everything he wanted to do that day. again, deliberate! he is deliberate and very smart!
other thing i'd like to harken back to is the idea that he's in cahoots with the other dark sides to execute some Big Plan to break thomas out of his black and white thinking. while we don't know how orange acts like yet, we're Very familiar with janus by this point and we can see how long-drawn janus' plan of acceptance is. he's, again, sorry to use the word so many times, very deliberate. i don't even think his plan ends with svs.r, because it does seem like remus is well in on this plan too. in the 5 years video, he also seems to know more than thomas on what else is to come for the future of sanders sides, which implies he has some plans up his sleeve that no one else knows about. like i said, janus has the goal to break thomas out of his black and white thinking. and so far from what we've seen from remus, he also wants the same!
an important factor of remus' character besides his deliberateness is his general need to subvert what "goodness" means. "good and bad are all made up nonsense," he sings in forbidden fruit. throughout dwit he continuously criticizes everything thomas thinks is good or acceptable. in the 5 years video, he argues about how there's no "correct way of sitting". i think this also proves how remus is important as a side because, while not every single one of his beliefs are morally acceptable, he is still able to pick morality apart in a way the other sides are unable to. also, i just think this proves his character as just. generally smart? he's able to pick apart the status quo and moral philosophies, of course he's smart.
just to pick up on a previous point, remus is scarily perceptive. i mentioned this earlier with how remus is able to pick logan apart, but i'd like to add onto it more since i think a lot of people underestimate how crazily perceptive he is. for one, despite not being too close with a bunch of the other sides, he seems to be able to read their insecurities and play them against them really well. we see it in the way he uses virgil's insecurities of being an ex-dark side against him. we see it in the way he picks on patton and thomas' morality crisis against them. we see it in the way roman describes remus as someone being able to show him things he doesn't like about himself. and most importantly, we see it in the way remus constantly reaps the fact that logan isn't listened to to the point that logan snaps. as intrusive thoughts, remus' job is to see what deepest darkest secrets thomas and the sides suppress and use it against them.
at the moment, we don't really know if remus has any weaknesses, although wtit sort of implies that he himself is also quite irritated by the fact that thomas doesn't listen to him. he does a good way of hiding, though, how much of that problem is genuinely affecting him. it makes me think he's also smart in the way he's able to hide his vulnerabilities and true intentions from the other side. he's silly and goofy and lewd and because of that, everyone thinks he's harmless. the sides think he's unserious, and so does the fandom. but deep down, remus really isn't that stupid.
and LASTLY, when beta reading this essay, orb also mentioned to me about how remus possesses cognitive flexibility in a way roman doesn’t. this isn’t meant to discredit roman of course, but i think it’s important to mention that remus is the side with the least amount of restrictions when it comes to creative liberties. orb mentioned to me how remus is able to connect concepts easily in a way roman doesn’t because remus doesn’t operate under the same self-restrictive mindset. while this obviously would help thomas become more innovative as a creative, i think it’s also important to recognize how much thomas kind of needs it in general. much of the latter half of the series shows thomas dealing with restrictions, especially when it comes to doing good. it would be great benefit for thomas to be able to listen to a side who generally wants to Have a Good Time, and doesn’t abide by rules imposed onto them.
and yes that is my essay on remus 100/10 best character and is not dumb at all. very excited to see him in the finale and i hope y’all’s get your characterizations straight because i need me some good fics

So, I’ve noticed that there are two fanon interpretations of Patton floating around, one where he’s an innocent precious baby who can do no wrong, and the other where he’s some kind of demon who does everything wrong, and I really want people to know that both interpretations are equally wrong

Rewatching CPIOH and I felt the need to point out something i noticed real quick here
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
during the pan through of their rooms, we see patton still saying goodnight to all of his plushies before going to sleep and roman talking to his own plush (mostly to encourage himself) while he settles in for bed, but virgil is already fast asleep.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of the sides whose rooms we've been shown, logan is the one shown to go to bed the latest (the latest being 11:30).
Although technically remus was probably the one who was awake the latest (especially as we can still see his hand in romans room as he snatches some of his decorations, And he seems like the type to be up until 3 every night for no reason), its still pretty interesting to think about how despite the general fanon interpretation of the sides likes to portray virgil as the "up until 3 coffee addict" and logan as the one to chastise everyone else for a lack of proper sleep, it's actually virgil who goes to sleep the earliest while logan chooses to stay up later, even by a few minutes. (I'm pretty sure 11:30 is his set sleep schedule to begin with, but it's interesting how the others are already in bed before him.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also doubt virgil even likes coffee all that much either, whereas logan is known to heavily rely on it in WTIT, so I think alot of fanon virgil is really just canon logan

🌲A small stroll in the woods𓂃𓂂🍃
I suddenly had the earge to draw Moceit so here they are🤲💛💙 (This might be my first SS ship art to post on here( ºロº))
I kind of reused thier outfits from Thomas's into the unknown vid ! I guess I wanted an excuse to draw Janus in his coat (〃´-`〃)♡
I had fun with Jan's text bubbles, interpret it however you like!✨
I think Patton's just kinda pretending to listen seriously for his over-the-top edgy snake boi :)

hi sanders sides animators i have a list of ideas but i cannot animate at all so here they are
feel free to reblog this to get more artists to see it!!!
Logan never shut up again heathers au?? where virgil is veronica, patton is heather m, and roman is heather c. it’ll probably cut off when kurt and ram come in cuz idk who theyd be
okay hear me out with this one… dont let me go animatic with remus as donkey and janus as shrek. after the twins split, remus is to scary so they kick him out and he has to go find somewhere else to say. So, he finds Janus and begs him to let him stay despite how strange he is
the dont let me go idea could also be patton desperately trying to befriend janus after everything thats happened
i love play rehearsal animatic (human au) where roman is ranting to a side about how much he loves theater?? this would preferably be virgil janus or logan but its up to the artist
stupid with love animatic where its logan pining for roman (another human au) (i think this has been done but idk)
killer instinct animatic where roman is talking about what hes done to get to the point hes at and how hes ‘proud’ of where he is idk how you might interpret it its up to the artist again
OKAY OKAY. this one is another hear me out…. i know it’s today animatic but its virgil growing up talking about how he hates being with the dark sides?? idk something like that
Roman hard to be the bard animatic idk what youd do but i love the idea of him complaining about how much work he does and how hes slowly breaking down
mister cellophane but its logan. i dont think i need to explain this any further
the i love you song and the au is that virgil is patton and janus’ kid?? maybe patton and logan??
patton good morning baltimore thats it thats all i’ll say
Virgil and roman singing what is this feeling from wicked
another wicked idea, roman singing popular to virgil or logan
logan singing god i hate shakespeare about roman with patton as nigel and the ensemble
roman singing i can hear the bells about any side (except remus) (human au probs but up to artist)
Remus singing positive to Janus as he tries getting virgil back to the dark sides?? he sings about how janus is better than the light sides (particularly roman, considering hes the one growing closer with virgil)
logan or roman singing my grand plan
The pitiful children but its Janus trying to manipulate one of the sides. probably patton or roman
What’s up Duloc animatic where roman is farquaad and its him just goofing off in the imagination idk i think itd be cute cuz theyre both silly
thank you for reading this list :3 if ur an animator i would LOVE to see these ideas (please im begging you)
