you know I really like Scaramouche-angst, or whump or whatever other terms apply, but sometimes I am just struck by how profoundly tragic his story is. Like.

He has friends now (although, who knows what Dottore burning Irminsul will do to those relationships), and we can see him improving, but can you imagine how he felt after falling from godhood? He lost everything! And in his view, it's not even fair! Yeah he wanted to usurp Nahida- so what? In the archon war, gods usurped and killed each other all the time, and there was no descender interrupting and helping their favourite win! It made his life better in the long run, sure, but immediately after? I can't imagine how Nahida even got him to the point he was at the beginning of inversion of genesis. Personally I would have refused any cooperation and hoped Nahida would kill me- but for all we know he can't even die! He's tried to kill himself multiple times and it never worked. He tried to burn himself to death and it just didn't do anything!

i love him so much, but thinking about his story hurts sometimes. I like the angsty fics a lot, but in canon I'm glad he's slowly getting better. Anyways more quotes coming tomorrow I just wanted to ramble (again)

Chapter 4: Done

The Balladeer deals the finishing blow to something long shattered beyond repair.

The torrents of Irminsul enveloped him once more. The first thing he felt was a pressure, a pain on his forehead, around his temples. He realized he’d grasped his own face so tightly his nails were digging into his false skin. He was breathing fast – a laugh, a sob high in his throat. The Traveler was beside him, no doubt eyeing him with concern. “Hey,” Paimon cautiously began. “Are you… alright?” Did you not see?! Don’t you know anything?!
