I rarely comment on actors’ personal lives but I LOVE IT that Daljiet is so happy and that Akshay and Barun are legit holding the flowers over her head as she walks down as a bride (sorry I don’t know what that’s exactly called) and that Sanaya and Aabhaas are your perfect ladkiwaalis.
Tumblr media
The point is, I love love love watching friends become family and to learn that the actors in your favorite show have really bonded as a family behind the screens is heartwarming.
Tumblr media
And this doesn’t seem like a fairytale cause Daljiet got married again after her previous terrible marriage! We’ve literally seen how she has spent YEARS dedicated to bettering her body and mind to live a richer quality of life!
Tumblr media
The fairytale part is we see a friendship that’s literally a decade old and we see that these guys stuck around. Not as a “camp” or PR or anything profitable to benefit from - you’d see if they were friends for “connections”.
Tumblr media
And tbh I don’t know either of these people, but when I see that here’s a bunch of people who’s been there for the other through marriages, babies, divorces, birthdays, projects, festivals and so much more - you wish that kind of friendship and happiness for yourself too.
Tumblr media
So here’s to Daljiet 🥂 for a happy wedding and to the pictures for simply making my day happy with the feel good vibes.

Hello Phati Sari. I asked the question about the suicide attempt. And I just saw the answers about Arnav’s abuse. That is what I am getting at. I feel like he reflected on his feelings for Khushi and realized her innocent or not didn’t matter because he loved her. But I’m not sure he ever reflected on how his actions drove her to the state of mind where she would carefully plan a suicide based on the reasons she gave. And jumping from a one story building could have caused multiple broken bones.
This continues my earlier ask. Couldn’t type anymore. Besides broken bones, head injuries and lacerations could occur. I am at a disadvantage because I don’t speak Hindi so depend on blogs for translation and analysis sometimes. He does say sorry on the way to remarriage but in the light of the real abuse he did I am not sure it showed effectively enough his understanding of that. I just discovered the rewinds where he reflects and I understand he does show it there sometimes but I can find no
To continue. Sorry so long. I can find no English translations for his dialogs in the rewinds. Is there a place you know where some might be available or can you throw some light on pieces of his dialog that shows some deeper understanding of how his actions were abusive and he takes ownership for that abuse aside from Khushi letting him off the hook because she knows he loves her and her tears hurt him too. Sorry that isn’t enough for understanding even in fiction. Please edit ask if need. Than
Hello!
Firstly, I have to say that I think I’ve answered your question already. I realise it was not to your satisfaction, but in my mind I’ve already given my answer. I’m going to answer using specific quotes from your ask to make this a little easier because I think you’re actually asking a different question entirely.
But I’m not sure he ever reflected on how his actions drove her to the state of mind where she would carefully plan a suicide based on the reasons she gave.
But explicitly on-screen, no.
And jumping from a one story building could have caused multiple broken bones. Besides broken bones, head injuries and lacerations could occur.
Well yeah, I wasn’t minimising what could’ve happened. Your earlier question, however, explicitly asked whether Arnav could chalk it up to drama, and I said he could.
That you didn’t like the answer doesn’t change my outlook -- yes the outcome could’ve been serious but a man who thinks he was duped by this woman’s faux innocence, that she was always trying to entrap or confuse him, could absolutely have come to the conclusion that she was faking her attempt at suicide because she wanted something from him.
To clarify, I’ve never thought her attempt was anything but serious, and have written essays about how much I disagreed with the track being given a comedic treatment.
I just discovered the rewinds where he reflects and I understand he does show it there sometimes
Does he though? I mean, Arnav spends most of his time spouting poetry in the Rewind, not genuinely reflecting on his behaviour. I’ll admit to my bias -- both EJ and Rewind strike me as out-of-character bullshit that I enjoy if the mood strikes me, but they’re not canon in my eyes.
Is there a place you know where some might be available or can you throw some light on pieces of his dialog that shows some deeper understanding of how his actions were abusive and he takes ownership for that abuse aside from Khushi letting him off the hook because she knows he loves her and her tears hurt him too
You’re not going to find this in the canon. I’m sorry, I understand why you’re looking for it, really I do. The closest we get are vague statements in EJ and in the Rewind.
(This turned into a bit of a live-blog on the Rewind.)
In Episode 1 of the Rewind, Arnav reflects on their first meeting. He says that he was angry at Khushi because his show was ruined. He says that he rained upon her like lava. (Lava?? That’s taken straight from fanfiction my God.)
Arnav: “Aaj yaad karta hoon toh lagta hai ki kitna bura bartaav kiya maine uske saath uss din.” -- When I think about it now, I think of how badly I behaved with her that day.
He admits to wrongdoing but as it immediately follows a justification, I’m not convinced it’s particularly reflective or deep. He always knew he was wrong -- the countless flashbacks to this meeting showed this in the canon.
In Episode 2, when he talks about the release of the video footage, Arnav smilingly tells the camera that he didn’t realise it would ~complicate~ Khushi’s life so much. This one action invited Shyam into her life and he smiles while he recalls it???
Ugh, this is the episode with the naaaaaavvvvvvv. Naaaaaaaavvvv. Fuck me dead I hate the Rewind so much, anon you’d better send me loads of virtual potatoes for this!
Episode 3, in which Arnav reduces his abuse of the employer-employee relationship with Khushi to a video game in which one has to defeat their opponent.
At least she apparently took the raksha bandhan seriously.
OH MY GOD THE MUG I’D FORGOTTEN THE MUG, BLISSFULLY WIPED IT FROM MY MEMORY. MY EYES. MY EEYYYEEESSS.
In Episode 6, Arnav admits he feels guilty when he thinks of the things he said and made Khushi do on the night of the photoshoot. His punishment is taking his wife to eat parathas -- a punishment Arnav admits is inadequate because he made so many mistakes.
In Episode 7, Arnav admits that regrets many of his decisions in his and Khushi’s story. But he hedges, saying that his mind wasn’t listening to his heart at the time. And then tries to justify his anger by bringing up that she told everyone about Lavanya.
In Episode 8, Arnav says that he gets goosebumps when he thinks about something happening to Khushi at the guesthouse. He says he still gets tears in his eyes when he thinks about how her arm was hurt. And yet, no examination of physical abuse.
In Episode 9, he admits that he’d crossed too many lines and Khushi’s anger was justified when she resigned. He admits that he made her life miserable, that he was “torturing” her. He says that he’d never send her where her life was in danger, though, and that she was wrong in saying that.
Ahh I’d totally spaced on him saying that he’d heard his dhak-dhak for the first time on Teej.
In Episode 14, Arnav reiterates that he regrets how he treated Khushi, and he wishes they knew what they know now: that they were falling in love.
And then Arnav disappears from the Rewind. His behaviour in the contract marriage and beyond is not reflected on.
I’m not seeing anything in the Rewind that constitutes Arnav showing a deeper understanding of his abusive behaviour and taking ownership of it and its influence on Khushi. I mean, it’s there in the edges of what he says, but it’s not actually what he says. And what he says was always in the serial -- in his monologues, in his flashbacks, in his moments of introspection. It should not be news to anyone.
When I say IPKKND is set in a fantasy world where Arnav’s behaviour is not coded as abusive, I don’t mean and so we shouldn’t examine it through that lense. I mean that the characters will not admit to it being abuse any more than Aragorn is going to comment on the lack of women in LOTR or Aslan is going to say “I’m actually Jesus.” The conclusion that his behaviour is abusive is external to the serial, internally he’s driven by the trauma of the Tragedy and has the blessing of Devi Maiyya.
And so, there is no examination -- internally -- of this behaviour. Even in Lavanya’s case, Arnav never mentions the gross power imbalance and her ready acceptance of his abuse as reasons for the breakup. The show is silent on the topic (though my recaps aren’t) and the audience is left with the genuinely absurd idea that it was about how he didn’t love her. It wasn’t -- he knew he didn’t love her when they first broke up lol. It was about their interaction at the poolside where she admitted he’d never been nice to her. Ever. And that she just accepted as it as a given in their dynamic. Even in the Rewind, Arnav emphasizes that he didn’t love Lavanya, that he only saw her as a friend, instead of admitting he was emotionally abusive.
Coming back to Arnav’s reflection -- Arnav always, always, will be able to justify his point of view. Everyone is the Hero in their own story -- the entire thrust of this blog is to show that.
Now, I don’t need Arnav to say he was abusive -- I know he was, but I also think the redemption he was offered in the serial was fine (I’m qhsahil in that exchange, but I reckon you will agree with the others). I think it was in keeping with the characters shown in the serial and I have absolutely no desire to see any come-upperance or vengeance on Khushi’s behalf.
In conclusion, I get where you’re coming from, and I even understand why you want to see him say and admit these things, but I disagree that we see (or ever will see) them in the canon, or that we even need them in general.
Thanks for asking!

Okay, but do you think Shrenu gets enough money for those standing in the background that she does in IB? I am asking bcoz it can be assumed as the only reason she is still sticking to the show. The case for KunLee is different, bcoz we agree it or not IB gave them THE BREAK, but for Shrenu I don't understand. She had got back to back shows before DBO/IB & she has quite a big fan base from ipkknd-ebp. I think money or professionalism can be the only reasons.
Indian TV actors are paid per day of work, not per scene/screen-time, so I think regardless of the length of her scenes, she’s paid her due amount for the day (which is higher than KunLee, because she’s more established.) Also, just because *we* see her for just 3 minutes in the background in one episode doesn’t mean that’s the only work that she did that day. She’s scheduled to work a full how-many-ever-hours shift, and they’ll shoot all that they need out of her in a particular week in like, 3 - 4 days. That’s how it frees her up for her other commitments (modeling, events, vacations, etc.)
…. Isn’t money + professionalism the reason almost everyone stays at their job? Very few people actually LOVE their job ~~~~~so much to put up with the unsavory bits of it, which in this case, are many. (Inhumane working hours, ghatiya writing, health issues, etc. etc.)
There’s also a thing called an ‘exclusivity contract’; which channels make the actors sign when they take on a show with them (I’m not sure, but I think they might even be beyond a single show, and for a number of years; where even if one show goes off air, they have a chance to star in future upcoming shows.) They’re a little bit like a deal with the devil, where the channel literally owns you (not just the character, but you as an IRL person.) The channel has full call on how you, an actor playing a particular character on their platform, represent yourself even outside the show, on the medium of televison. Nakuul had to quit hosting India’s Got Talent mid-way in 2015 because Star enforced the contract and didn’t want him appearing on Colors when he was to headline Ishqbaaaz in due time. Tons of actors are not allowed to participate on reality shows (other than on their own channel), because the image they’ll project on that show might go against the one they’re portraying on their soap, and the channel doesn’t want that. So the actors are quite strictly bound by these and breaking them has repercussions (legal + monetary + reputation + a ban of sorts.) It’s in their best interest to honour the contract since maintaining a good relationship with the channel is ideal for their career in the future as well. As long as IB is on air (and maybe even after), KunLee and Shrenu (who signed hers when she took on IPK2), are bound by these contracts, and will not be allowed to pursue other work on other channels until the contract is up/the channel frees them from it. (Mansi doesn’t seem to have one, since she appeared on Fear Files on Zee/Laal Ishq on &TV. Reyhna too, as she’s been doing work on Sony and now Zee.)

IPKKND3 Aaj Tak: Week 1
I think I’m going to try to talk about each week’s episodes as a whole :) Do you like the title?
1. Advay’s character sketch is ... sketchy
The promos told us that he was was going to be dark. So far we haven’t seen him do anything that wasn’t in a promo, so I feel the show is going to become a lot more interesting when the full shock value of his actions can be felt.
I love watching him on the screen. He’s a powerful presence and I even sometimes find myself hoping he succeeds in his mission to punish everyone who wronged him.
The thing that worries me is that Advay is on shaky ground when it comes to the reasoning behind his revenge. The way he’s fixated on Chandni sort of makes sense if one considers that he was young as well and she’s the only person he can confidently identify, but it’s still not rational or logical to assume that a child had an agenda when there were so many adults involved.
And whereas Arnav had the ‘excuse’ of being extremely reactive when he was angry, Advay has been sold to us as someone who is coldly calculating. Even Sobti himself said that the two characters are very different in the way they handle the pain in their past -- Arnav tried to bury it but Advay thinks and talks about it constantly. His observation that she’s the weakest link doesn’t quite capture the intensity of his hatred towards her, in my opinion.
I’ve spoken at length about Star Plus pushing the boundaries between anti-hero and villain with every serial after IPKKND, and pegged Advay for a villain after some promos came out.
I’ve talked here about the line separating Arnav and Shyam -- anti-hero and villain -- and the line that could separate Arnav and Advay. I’m curious to see how the creatives play this because I can see them taking the Romantic Hero route and I just don’t want to see that with this character.
I love the way Sobti has approached this character. Sobti’s acting is superb -- there’s so much nuance in almost everything that he does. I’m sure rewatches will reveal a lot when it comes to Advay’s state of mind.
2. Chandni is adorable
The promos didn’t give me much of a handle on her character but I like what I’ve seen so far. My favourite scenes have been between Chandni and her Baba :)
While I don’t really like her sisters right now, I love the person Chandni is when she’s around them. I feel I’m getting glimpses of the girl she might been had the kidnapping not occurred (and also girl she might have been had Dev not left her).
I just want her to stop taking the caps of glass bottles (7UP!) off with her teeth!
I think Tomar is an extremely capable actor. Her portrayal of someone with PTSD is intense and believable, and I’ve enjoyed all her scenes with Sobti so far.
3. There are too many characters
Half of them haven’t even turned up again.
I’m reminded, however, of how Dhruv Singh Raizada was mentioned in Episode 11 of IPKKND and then promptly written out of the show, and how the past between Mama and Mami was meant to be explored through a series of flashbacks until they decided to focus on Mami’s comedy.
I’m sure the show will eventually settle on what it wants, but at the moment it’s a bit messy.
Similar to the way I feel about Chandni and her sisters, while I enjoy seeing the dynamic between Indrani and her sisters, I don’t particularly like the sisters themselves. I love their theme music, however, and the Aunty-wali Mausi’s way of speaking is growing on me.
4. I love the colours and the sets
Such pretty. I’m a huge fan. I absolutely love how it all juxtaposes Advay’s darkness. I’ve watched shows (eg. LIFE, starring Damian Lewis) that use the concept of light in fascinating ways to juxtapose the darkness of what they are showing. I feel this serial is going the same with colour.
5. Shat Pratishat Vashisht
No. Just no. The sisterly motto, the cooking montage ... I just don’t like it.
6. The costumes
I like the way Advay has been styled so far but that plaid suit looks horrendous. This offscreen image has me worried as well: it’s a shirt, slacks, waistcoat and jacket made of the same material!!
The ladies all have costumes that I wouldn’t personally wear but I find Chandni’s wardrobe cute. It’s different. Not sold on anyone else’s.
7. It’s so slow!
Each day spans several episodes, and it’s even more confusing when the characters change clothes half way through. I hope the pacing increases soon :)
Hopes for next week:
Very few episodes featuring the ugly suit of ugly
More Miku/Veer
Advay-Chandni scenes that I haven’t seen in the promos
More AdvayVision™️ with maths :)
Some more exploration of Advay’s fixation on Chandni

hey there! my name is nura from canada and im very happy to have come across your blog! i used to casually watch ipkknd with my mom when it first aired more than 10 yrs ago but i didn't remember anything besides the leads so now im watching it all over again and im HOOKED. im glad that there is a fandom for the show, i would've hated feeling so alone in my love for this show.
i was going thru your posts and i noticed in one recent ask you had answered smth along the lines of the general disinterest of the cast for the show and i think their unwillingness to do anything more with the show. can you pls elaborate a little on this as i have no idea what this show was like behind the scenes. i apologize in advance in case i am misinterpreting your answer!
thank you and i can't wait to dive deeper into your blog and possibly bug you even more as i continue my rewatch 💙💙
- nura
Hello fellow Canadian :)
I am so glad you're enjoying watching IPKKND!!! Fandom makes things memorable for everyone :) I've met some of my closest friends due to this show and it's so exciting to chat up about everything you liked about it!!!
Oh don't worry, the cast is actually the best friends off screen. Barun (Arnav), Sanaya (Khushi) and I think Akshay (Akash) even live in the same building! And they all (which includes Daljeet [Anjali], Abhaas [Shyam] and the writer Gautam) often keep hanging out with each other and going on trips together!
The show was also amazing off screen, you'd roll off your bed laughing at their chaotic behind the screen interviews.
Interviewer asks about why Khushi wants to leave post Arnav telling her she's the biggest mistake of his life scene:
Sanaya: Oh nothing, you see my husband has some gas issues.
Barun (yawning and laughing): Haan I have gas.
Sanaya: Exactly, so I need to take a break from this.
LOL.
But yeah Barun himself quit the show (thank God) because he (accurately) didn't see where the show was going and why he needed to be a part of it. Also the cast in general, especially the leads aren't invested in simply seeing IPK again on screen. Which, understandable. A lot of writing and effort went into making IPK in the first place - to simply see it again as a cash grab (which they did with Ek Jashn) doesn't seem like reason enough. Also Sanaya and Barun have made it very very clear that they really aren't into daily soaps and would much prefer to be in limited series and they're both beyond what IPK is.
Barun has consciously chosen characters that are non romantic in nature to shed off the 'romance' projects. Which is a bit of a shame because few people sell romance the way he does! Sanaya is chilling. Lol she always is.
It's nothing bad, it's just that naturally they're probably not as attached to the show as much as the fans are because tbh, how famous or a classic IPK is was understood some time after the show ended as opposed to when it ran.
It's not like they don't like the show - of course they do granted that it put a few of them on the map, it was a different show and they found great friends out of it - but there actually doesn't seem to be any active engagement regarding the show.
Some examples of when you can see the cast being devoted to their shows like their fans would include the cast of Sarabhai V/S Sarabhai (there was a cute insta reel a few months ago of all of them singing the title song of the show) or Arjun Bijlani from Miley Jab Hum Tum - dude genuinely loves his show so much that when he's clean shaven he posts on Insta that it's #Mayank (which was his character's name).
And it's not a bad thing, it's just that the actors aren't invested in the show they did ten years ago - which happens. In several interviews Barun has little comments on Arnav, he has more of a critical analysis why IPK was different and the writing of the show (he's more inclined to writing in general). And Sanaya also has very little to say about Khushi apart from it being similar to her so she had fun playing it. I think in the recent most interviews where they had questions regarding 'what would their character do' currently or were asked to behave like their characters - they were both a little lost on what to do and had nothing apart from a few funny comments.
Which, again, isn't a bad thing at all.
In fact it probably tells what a big role the writer and director play in fleshing out these characters! Gautam Hegde (the writer) still waxes some of the most beautiful lines about IPKKND.
And if anything the Rewind showed that Barun gets ASR only if there's a purpose to it. And Sanaya can switch into Khushi when she's performing somewhere.
It can feel a bit bittersweet for a fan because a show means so much for a viewing experience. So I won't say that the cast is 'unwilling' - I'd say they're reluctant.
And that's different.
I don't think Barun and Sanaya would ever reprise Arnav and Khushi beyond an hour of shooting if there wasn't anything meaningful to it.
So keeping all this in mind I'm very happy not seeing IPK on screen because current Indian television landscape is terrible and if there's no actual purpose to bringing IPK on screen then what?
It'll just be a Season 3 of Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Rise Bhi or Season 2 of Pratigya!
And canonically Arnav and Khushi got their happily ever after and I'd love it to remain that way.
Lol this was a long answer!!!
Much love Nura,
Jalebi

So there’s this thing I’ve observed, there’s one off-screen clip during the shooting days of ipkknd where Sanaya addresses Barun as ‘Baby’. It was obviously a slip of tongue at that point and no one paid any heed to it. Now, I observed in a recent interview with Gul, Sanaya once again had the same slip of tongue, about 9-10 years later. She said “Noo baby- baby bol rhi hoon, No Barun!” There’s no need for speculation here I thought it was so cute, and their bond and friendship is commendable. It’s just one thing I observed.
Things I call my friends:
Jaan / Jaanemann
Baby / Babes / Babydoll
Jigar / Chand ka Tukda
Personalized nickname
And obviously it’s meant for personal interactions, not in the midst of interviews or at work where other acquaintances are around - I accidentally called my friend baby at work and we both burst laughing.
I love when off screen friendships develop into lifelong friendships (IPK & Ishqbaaz)

Hi JWB! I feel really bad about making this confession, but I’m sad about how Barun looks now. Do you know if he got any fillers/cosmetic work done? He looked amazing in ipkknd and EJ but he looks so different now? What do you think? I know aging is a factor but even Akshay/Sanaya/Daljeet look relatively the same. Sanaya’s nose looks a little different but nothing drastic. Anyway sorry for being that annoying superficial person but had to get this off my chest. I’m very thankful for your blog :)
Hello Anon,
Thank you for loving my blog 🫂 and thank you for being aware how off your question sounds. And since you have been very polite about this question I will answer it to the best of my ability even though I have sharp rule on my blog that I do NOT discuss actors’s personal lives and choices.
I have no answer for whether or not any of them had any cosmetic job done. If it ever comes in a magazine we might know.
Otherwise everyone… aged. Because the show we love is 10 years old.
Akshay and Dalljiet are really into fitness and healthy living - especially Dalljiet. So it shows. Sanaya has fantastic metabolism - as she often states herself, and has recently gone much into yoga so that good effect will show up. A lot of us love Barun and his work when he was in his twenties. It’s literally ten years after that and he doesn’t seem too keen on keeping perfect appearances.
If keeping appearances is a line, Dalljiet is one who has worked well on her looks and fashion and health (as she says herself) and Barun will be on the other end as he doesn’t work much on how he looks, he works more on his craft (as he says himself).
Oh and Sanaya’s nose - it’s the same. Makeup and camera makes all the difference. Lenses really change how a person looks on screen versus real life. The millimeter of the lens changes how a person looks, for eg:
Tumblr media
That’s the same person in a 35mm lens, 50mm lens and 85mm and we can say she looks absolutely different in all.
I am glad my blog makes you feel free enough to talk about what you want. Feel free to ask more questions in future - but please stick with their professional lives, characters, movie choices or even fashion choices :)
Take care,
- JWB

Hi! Do you know if there was any tension bw Gul Khan and Sanaya? There have been interviews about it and Barun got more screentime in EJ. And got cast in ipkknd3. Tbh I think Sanaya should get more credit for her performance in Ipkknd. She actually brought life into the show and made it successful bc her expressions and reactions were perfect. All the popular moments from the first few episodes were so poignant bc she completely embodied the role. Ofc Barun is great too. What do you think? Thx:)
Hello there!
No, apart from the cast's friendship off screen, I don't have any idea what surmised off screen between the producer and actor.
Oh but I do agree that Sanaya should've gotten a lot more credit for her portrayal of Khushi than she did. Barun got his complete due - I'm so glad people spotted what a great actor he is - and not just for his handsome profile but for the real intense scenes as well.
Best,
- JWB :)

10 Headcanons about IPKKND
Headcanon: It refers to something that the reader assumes about the story (in this case, a television show) or a character, though it's never officially stated in the books (tv show) or by the author (writer/creator).
Of course, I’m in the bandwagon of watching Iss Pyaar Ko till the end of my life, and now I’m so mentally convinced that these are ten things that definitely happened in the Iss Pyaar Ko world (beyond the script & screen).
P.S: I love you writers, creators, actors and the sensible decision makers <3
Tumblr media
#1 Arnav and Anjali are the mirror images of their father and mother, respectively.
#2 Anjali realised the truth of her marriage on the day of Arnav & Khushi’s remarriage.
#3 Aman Mathur is Arnav’s best friend.
#4 Aman and Anjali DO FALL IN LOVE.
#5 NK and Lavanya fall in love as well.
#6 Aarav grows to become closest to Khushi.
#7 Shashi recovers and tells the families about his ‘paralysis’.
#8 Akash and Payal get to know about Arnav & Khushi’s first marriage.
#9 Arnav and Khushi explore dating and friendship after their remarriage.
#10 Arnav gets shy when Khushi makes the first move.
Tumblr media
#1 "Aap wohi kar rahe hain, jo aapki pita kiye rahe.”
“You’re exactly doing what your father did.” Nani to her grandson, Arnav.
Although Nani unfairly does use this line on Arnav far too many times, one thing that is true is that Arnav is his father’s son. From the only picture we have of Mr. Malik - there is an uncanny resemblance of the man who does not want to look like his father in any way.
When Arnav talks to Khushi about his father’s mother, he is pissed at how tenacious, prejudiced, judgmental and stubborn his grandmother is. And this line of cruelty seems to be a Malik streak that even Arnav has.
There is no denying that Arnav has the Malik blood in him coursing through his veins. But it’s just a magic that he has turned every weakness, fault of the Maliks into his biggest strength.
And in between all this we perhaps miss how identical Anjali is to their mother. Anjali is not only pivotal to Arnav’s life like his mother, she is also literally similar to Ratna Singh Raizada.
Calm, composed, ability to see through their Chote’s anger, clad in a rich saree, always present with a large smile.
But along with personality and features, she also inherited her mother’s fate.
A cheater for a husband.
However Anjali fared worse. Not only did Shyam cheat on her, he did not care about his child and made numerous attempts to murder his wife and was behind the Raizada wealth.
But when Ratna and Anjali realize the true faces of their husbands - they seemingly say the same thing;
“Aapne mujhe pyaar kiya hi nahi,” You never loved me.
“Aur aap humein pyaar bhi nahi de paaye.” You couldn’t even love me.
And you have to wonder, if not for Khushi in their lives - what would’ve happened? Her presence helped Arnav step out of the shadows of his family’s past and gave Anjali the support to escape the emotionally manipulative marriage she was in.
Tumblr media
#2 “Nahi Shyam ji, humare Chotey aur Khushi ji ka rishta itna kamzor nahi hai. Inn dono ka rishta toh iss sab se bohot upar hai.”
“No Shyam, my brother and Khushi’s relationship isn’t that weak. Their relationship is above and beyond all this [misunderstanding, tragedy, manipulation].” Anjali to her husband, Shyam.
This is one of the few times in Anjali’s marital relationship where she has gone against her husband. And this was more than going against, this was dismissing him. While I rejoiced that Arnav came back to his Khushi to live their happily ever after - I was more surprised by Anjali’s calm demeanor.
For a woman who had clung onto her grandmother, Dadi, the minute she entered their house - Anjali did not even have a single hesitation to Dadi leaving the house permanently.
There’s a sudden maturity and clarity in Anjali. She laughs, teases, worries just as before but there’s a realization that history has never been the way she and Arnav saw it.
I think that maybe Anjali too believed it was an outsider who ruined her parents’ marriage - but perhaps seeing Khushi crumble without Arnav and her brother’s strength to face his past and embrace his present, and above all blatantly seeing her grandmother’s manipulation shifts Anjali’s perspective.
She sees what no one else does. That Dadi chose this day, the day of her dearest Chote’s wedding, the happiest day of her brother’s life to speak about a past that does not matter. This freezes Anjali against all her hatred she had for the other woman, her father, their past. For Dadi her grandson’s happiness does not matter.
But for Anjali, nothing was worth more than her brother’s happiness.
And I positively stand by this head canon because immediately Anjali signals her brother that he did the right thing after he asks Khushi to marry him. She requests for Khushi’s happiness from Arnav as her nek. She keeps insisting, in front of her family, that Arnav and Khushi are made for each other. And above all, when Arnav tells Anjali that he might hurt her - she immediately shushes him that he can never hurt her.
And so one of the first things Anjali tells to Shyam is that;
“Why should I trust you? So you can betray me... again? My family was against you, every evidence was against you but I... I stood with you.”
Tumblr media
#3 *Gets SOS message from Arnav to send Khushi a gift* *Sends the gift but signs it off with his name*
Somehow I have this deep feeling that Aman messes with Arnav on purpose! I find it hilarious that we never see Aman so genuinely he is a figment of our imagination - why is why I believe this man is canonically Aman and I have evidence which I refuse to be disputed on!
But in general I also feel that Aman is one of Arnav’s closest friends apart from colleague. According to me, Aman Mathur is one of the first men to join AR and a key employee who helped Arnav grow AR to what it is. He is responsible for the functional logistics, is Arnav’s best friend and one of the only people to not be intimidated by ASR.
In a world of ‘yes men’, Aman is a ‘no’ man and it is their intellectual arguments that makes him Arnav’s best friend because Aman truly looks out and cares for Arnav as his own family. Also, he wants the best for Arnav.
He probably knows everything about Arnav and Khushi’s contract marriage, gets to know everything about Shyam’s duplicity and even though we never see him in the family - I can imagine that Arnav, Akash and Khushi, consider Aman as their own.
And either Arnav and Aman function on the same brain cell, i.e.,
Arnav - can memorize the entire Oxford dictionary but cannot conjure ‘Happy Birthday’. Runs a fashion house but has NO IDEA that his wife needed a bag for functionality, not accessory. Can have telepathic conversations with his wife but NOT a real one.
Aman - one of the most efficient person on this planet. Immediately organizes a gift for Khushi, upon Arnav’s instructions. Finds the best handbag, puts it in a box and sends it through a worker in time. FORGETS TO REMOVE HIS NAME AND SCREWS UP ARNAV’S HALF ASSED APOLOGY ATTEMPT #8592.
- OR -
Aman - tries interrupting ASR by dropping subtle hints that Khushi needs a ‘happy birthday’ instead of a bag. Seeing the density of his best friend Aman does two things; selects a bag that is completely out of taste for Khushi but pleases Arnav because it’s expensive, makes sure to leave his name behind for Arnav to understand what a gift is.
Tell me which one sounds more like your imaginary Aman ;)
Tumblr media
#4 “WHAT THE FU-”
He completes that sentence the day Arnav learns about Anjali and Aman’s relationship. Definitely the two people, apart from Khushi, who is closest to Arnav and cares for him the most.
The two people Arnav loves the most.
The two people Arnav would NEVER WANT TO LOVE EACH OTHER.
How and when Aman and Anjali fall in love - I’ll leave that to competent fan fiction writers - but to add in a few thoughts;
- Aman and Khushi develop a strong friendship. Khushi and Anjali are more than sisters.
- Aman and Anjali connect because of their common point (their sincere care and concern for Arnav) and maybe there were prior feelings? I leave it open - but their love has this trance like gentleness that grows into humor and friendship and more as they try to sneak their way as an official couple.
- Khushi is the first to notice and connect the dots between Aman and Anjali and she is glad. Arnav denies the thought and is positively horrified by it.
- Khushi bears the brunt of having to placate Arnav into Aman and Anjali’s romance. It’s hilarious (and we get to see another flare of Dramatic Singh Raizada).
- Oh there’s almost always going to be a love-hate relationship of Arnav and Aman. While Arnav truly is happy for Aman and Anjali, he never fails to remind Aman he’s the boss. While Aman truly loves being accepted into a family and cares for Arnav as his younger brother, he never fails to remind him that he is married to Arnav’s sister. *Khushi and Anjali’s exhausted eye rolls*
- But in times of adversity they stand together against anything and everything.
Tumblr media
#5 "Shurukiya Lavanya.” “Shurukiya NK.”
Let me say, I began to ship NK and Lavanya the day NK said ‘shurukiya’ instead of shukriya - just like Lavanya! While the intellect, grasp of the Hindi language and foreign lifestyles match - they are also a case of opposites when it comes to personality.
In my head they meet - either for the first time or again - at Khushi’s birthday. This time Arnav babua knows how to win his lady love’s heart and how to say happy birthday so he does organize a small, intimate but colorful party with all the people who matter.
Which includes NK & Lavanya - Khushi’s two best friends (which she found thanks to Arnav).
There is definitely attraction at first sight but love? That takes its own sweet time to grow. It does NOT help that NK is Arnav’s cousin - but NK and Lavanya do end up together and are perfect for each other.
Neither NK nor Lavanya need to change, and their love story is like any other Hollywood romantic comedy - there’s everything (much to Khushi’s delight and Arnav’s dismay); meet cute, misunderstanding, accidental kissing, pretend boyfriend/girlfriend, denial of feelings, final grand confession at airport/balcony of La’s house and of course a white, hilarious wedding!
AND OF COURSE KHUSHI SHIPS IT! And Arnav curses his life because he was probably just coming to terms with Aman and Anjali coming together! (How come every employee gets married to a family member - the only exception being Payal and that Khushi is married to the owner and she was an employee so that doesn’t count).
I can just imagine an over enthusiastic Khushi helping a besotted NK and an empathetic but practical Lavanya. And probably there’s a breakup, or Lavanya chooses to not pursue the relationship until, ironically but according to clichés, Arnav saves the day by tapping into the friendship he shared with Lavanya.
And by driving NK to the airport - or La to the airport.
There is an airport scene ok.
Tumblr media
#6 “Mom”
Never, in a million years, with all her twenty imaginary babies would Khushi have ever imagined to be called ‘mom’. In her fantasies of Laad Governor & Sanka Devi’s Shaadi Shuda Zindagi she thought she had imagined it all;
A hot, passionate but crazy marriage. Their brood of children would be half western, thanks to English Singh Raizada, and half traditional. Her son would probably take after his father in looks (which she would be grateful for) and in temperament (which she would curse Arnav for). Their daughter would be just like Khushi (which Arnav would be grateful for) and probably believe in all love and romance (which Arnav would curse Khushi for as he fought off suitors for their daughter).
And then Arnav and Khushi would have another set of a son and daughter to have the roles switched. Of course, they have mastered the skill of making love and babies.
Arnav would be positively traumatized upon being called “Babuji” and would drop all his business to make sure his brood calls him “Dad/Papa” and Khushi would leave all her jalebis and shop to make sure her little army of Raizada's called her “Amma” instead of “Mom!”
That is until the day Aarav calls her mom. Suddenly, that is the sweetest word Khushi has ever heard and she does not want Aarav to call her anything else. Because it's what Aarav calls her.
Aarav, although shown to be identical to Arnav and immediately close to him because he believed all along that Arnav was his father - hence tried to impress him as much as he could - grows to become mamma’s boy. It’s Khushi’s childishness, sense of humor, joy for life, maturity and zest that brings out the boy’s childhood.
I am sure one day Khushi sits and talks about being an orphan - and Aarav would be surprised at Khushi’s happiness despite her tragedy. I feel Khushi would actually play a key role in nurturing Aarav and making him a wholesome boy who can laugh, dance and enjoy life like his mother.
In a nutshell, Aarav grows to become the perfect combination of his parents; slightly religious, loves sweets, plays pranks, is extremely sharp at mathematics, sarcastic, introvert, dry sense of humor, values relationships, values money and is temperamental enough to get people to obey him.
Oh, and did you think Arnav was a terror if anyone insulted Khushi in front of him? That Arnav would slap and rip away the person from planet and protect his wife from all costs.
Don’t even think of insulting Khushi with Aarav Singh Raizada around.
Even Arnav can’t raise his voice on Khushi in front of Aarav.
Aarav is obviously, protective about his father too - except he’s not too vocal about his. Arnav becomes a mentor, guide and a loving father for Aarav, while Khushi becomes Aarav’s best friend.
Tumblr media
#7 “That was not an accident.”
One line that would shake the worlds of the Raizada's and Gupta’s would be to learn that whatever happened with Shashi Gupta was not an accident. Of course, the show was great the way it was but with Shashi Gupta being such a competent and fantastic character - I just have this head canon where this last knot is tied up as well.
I think nothing adds more gravity to Shyam’s villainy than the fact that he nearly murdered a man right under their noses and no one even had an inkling. I just think it was important to address how disastrous it was for Buaji and Garima to immediately rely on Shyam and hasten Khushi’s wedding. Like Garima is truly selfish when she asks Payal to not say the truth and how horrible it was for Khushi to believe Shyam could change.
All along her father lay paralyzed by that very man’s hideous actions.
A part of me is not okay that they show Khushi, out of all people, trusting Shyam again. That Shashi’s paralysis is never addressed - it was a murder that failed. That Buaji and Garima have no idea what the consequence of their decision was.
They nearly married Khushi off to her father’s murderer. There’s just a part of me that does not want to blame anyone or expect any drama, but I need to know that the family knows how close they had been to losing everything because of their gross naivety.
Anjali lived with a murderer for so long; it’s been out there! Shyam paralyzed the man who suspected him, attempted killing his wife multiple times, kidnapped and nearly murdered his brother in law for wealth and then finally he did kill his child.
So I just need a moment for the Raizada's and Gupta’s to realize what a horrifying man Shyam is - independent of everything else. And I would have loved to have seen Shashi Gupta and Arnav’s interactions! So for me, it is my head canon that they all get to know the other truth once Shashi heals enough to speak.
Tumblr media
#8 The Six Month Contract
I mean I am completely fine with no one having an idea of the nature of the marriage. But also, I can’t imagine that Akash and Payal - who are very quiet but very in tune with their siblings and aware of their siblings nature - would be just quiet.
Especially when both of them knew that Arnav and Khushi were a bubbling pot of feelings on the day of their marriage. Arnav’s attraction for Khushi at that time was not a secret, and I am positive that an observant character like Akash would have picked that up.
Payal, the one we know, knows every single thing about Khushi - from her dreams to her wishes - would be completely shocked to know that Khushi agreed to a marriage where there was no priest.
If any character knows Arnav and Khushi best - it’s Akash and Payal. They are the only characters that Arnav and Khushi don't justify themselves to. But I feel in dignified manner, both Payal and Akash would try to find the truth on what happened that night.
Unlike Di, Nani and Bua ji, they won’t be happy with “oh they’re getting married again.” In my head canon, Akash and Payal are more active than what they were shown. And they would do this together - no secrets. They would discuss that knowing Khushi, she would never say yes to a marriage without a priest. And Bhai does seem like the last character to elope - especially when there is no reason to. With the way things were going, naturally Arnav and Khushi were next in line.
Probably from Nani Akash and Payal would learn what happened on their wedding day. They would learn about the fact that Arnav knew about Shyam, on that day. He thought Khushi was involved with Shyam. And he did make a big mistake in his life on that day.
From Di they would learn that Arnav did not marry Khushi because he loved her.
And that would give them all the knowledge that they knew and it would lead to a difficult but poignant conversation between all four of them. Akash and Payal are the ones who know the whole picture, but they’re also the ones who are closest to Arnav and Khushi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
#9 “You’re going on a date?” “Haan.” “HAAN! KISKE SAATH!?!” “Obviously Khushi ke saath.”
“You’re going on a date?” NK
“Yeah.” Arnav
“YEAH! WITH WHOM?!” NK
“Obviously with Khushi!” Arnav
This is probably one of the funniest scenes because NK has to question his cousin, who is about to be remarried to his wife, who he’s going on a date with.
And that sparks this head canon for me that Arnav and Khushi enjoy all the joys of courtship, friendship and dating post their marriage. They start heading to the movies, playing pranks, discussing business, traveling countries and flirting with each other shamelessly.
It’s an aspect of love they scratched on right before Akash and Payal’s marriage and their remarriage. With the absence of all hate and prejudices - Arnav and Khushi probably have a really fun marriage with one always pulling the other one’s leg.
When they’re serious and romantic - they burn the house in flames from their intensity.
When they’re pulling pranks they’re  also bringing the house down with Khushi screaming murder and running behind Arnav to maul him.
We see glimpses of this when Arnav, seductively, draws a mustache on her. Or teases her about the moon and she slaps him, lightly on his chest. Or when he suggests that the world isn’t weird but she might be. Or when Khushi teases Arnav on being called “chote.”
*sigh*
In a nutshell - Arnav & Khushi explore the facets of romance and courtship post marriage - dates, friendship, movies, travel, exercise, cooking, gardening, pranks, arguments, etc.
Tumblr media
#10 Arnav Shy Singh Raizada
Another completely silly head canon - the silliest of all - is that when Khushi takes control, Arnav becomes shy. He isn’t as vocal as Khushi when it comes to expressing his emotions but he does have his brief moments of being slightly flustered which he graces with his one look. A soft smile and a sweet challenge brewing in his eyes.
We get a hint of him being bashful when anyone else interrogates him about his feelings for Khushi - there’s the obvious nonchalance and anger, but this little heart likes to believe that there’s a soft boi underneath who’s going starry eyed every now and then.
If anyone read this in full then may Devi Maiyya bless you with infinite happiness and patience. It was a lot, even though it was supposed to be a silly list of head canons! Thank you for your time!

Hey p.s! Are you getting better now healthwise? Wishing you a speedy recovery. have you seen any of sobti's interviews so far? How he seem to you as a person? I have seen some and it leaves me in awe of him. He is soft and well spoken, genuine and has warmth that does reaches to you and weirdly someone who is indifferent to his own charm.would like to know your thoughts? Have a great weekend. Take care, bye.
Hello :) :)
My health is okay I guess, it’s all the other aspects of my life that’ve blown up.
I’ve seen quite a few of his interviews over the years :) I don’t have the same sense of awe as you do though.
I’m acutely aware, when I watch interviews and ‘candid’ off screen bits, that we’re rarely watching the person. We’re most often watching a persona -- a personality created specifically for offscreen appearances. This is particularly true of actors. This public persona usually aligns very well with the person’s brand.
We’re all aware of these personas. Shah Rukh Khan has cultivated a brand that centers on him being, first and foremost, a family man. He and Gauri have almost always played the part of young lovers who got to know one another before the fame and have stuck by each other through thick and thin. Their household is a utopian blend of two religions. Everything they do, they do together.
The Bachchans are another example of a brand, where each member has carefully cultivated public personas.
Sobti’s brand is that of accidental fame, a man who didn’t (and to this day doesn’t) seek fame, who picks projects according to what’s interesting. He maintains that he doesn’t need to work for money, that he has the luxury of choosing projects that speak to him in some way, that he’s more concerned with supporting his friends and people he admires than promoting himself. He’s the everyman. His reluctance to cultivate a social media presence in a world where that’s the preeminent way to prove you’re relevant plays into this brand -- he never wanted the fame and now won’t play by the usual rules to keep it. It’s also in the way he dresses and ‘dances’ and speaks.
And yet, he continued to promote IPKKND years after it was relevant, chasing it as it was syndicated around the world. He signed up, not once but twice, to help Star Plus revive it (EJ and the Rewind). His relationship with the production house and his reluctance to speak out against it says more to me than anything he claims in an interview.
I’m sure he’s a very nice, personable individual. His public persona likely shares many traits with the man he really is. I find this persona pleasant, easy to watch and listen to, and very easy to like. Which is the point.

Celebrity Crush
Tumblr media
@shaonharryandpannisim and for anyone who wants to listen :)
TL DR; Of course it’s normal to have celebrity crushes and more than often it’s exactly what you said - admiration + healthy dose of ‘I will watch this project ‘cause they’re in it.’ BUT the other side is so toxic that it has permanently turned me off from having celeb crushes in general.
Crush /krəSH/
noun
(informal) a brief but intense infatuation for someone, especially someone unattainable or inappropriate.
Warning: The following is completely my opinion and please continue having your healthy crushes. It’s mostly why I don’t crush. Thanks to coming for my biased TED talk in advance.
I will be chiefly discussing Barun Sobti and Adam Driver.
Tumblr media
First Contact w/ Unhealthy Fandom
The first time I saw a man and went WOW that’s one really good looking person was Barun Sobti as Arnav Singh Raizada - ok he did look like a little baby for the first few episodes but then he does this backward glance while walking away from his love interest and I felt the intensity of the gaze. And of course, that’s the goal of the whole scene.
So I jumped into the fandom, truly ready to discuss about how amazing he is BUT BUT BUT there were some very weird people out there. Like complete creeps to be honest.
- The people who thought that Barun Sobti should have a ‘better’ wife. Like she isn’t “enough” or some shit like that.
- People who think that he and Sanaya (his co star of IPKKND) are married / should be married / are having an affair - crap like that. Like people who can’t differentiate between Arnav Singh Raizada and Barun Sobti.
- People who think that because they see him on their screens all day, they typically own aspects of his life and are offended by his choice of privacy. So they can pass opinions, think they are a better match for him or that he should be working on all projects solely with Sanaya? (I wanna see them back but please - not this way!)
Maybe I was searching the wrong places all the time but it’s so difficult to communicate wholesome admiration. I, never ever, want to hug/kiss/physically get close or even meet him ‘cause I’m a weird person (lol) and genuinely I’d always like to meet Sobti in the capacity of a friend / respectful fan than anything else.
So I thought this was an issue that only was there with Sobti *cue lol hah*, no it just gets amplified with the bigger someone’s star status is.
Fans Who Can Be Batshit Crazy
*enters* Adam Driver.
Okay, I can wax out fifteen hundred poetries for this man because I am in love with his talent, dedication, skill and yes he does look amazing. In a lot of places he’s called the ‘sex symbol’ of the millennium and I would agree!
He’s a bloody good actor - I’d spend any amount of money to watch him. But like apart from worshipping his talent and being in awe of his physicality and thinking that the Lord took his time to make this man - yup, ends right about there. Do I imagine to be his wife or even have him physically close to me *ew no*? No.
People who comment on the actor’s partner, their children, etc. I once found a weird comment where a person asked how would their child find their father/mother intensely attractive and having a great chemistry with someone else?
Oh God... let’s not even begin there! For a child the parent is always the parent - ideally a lovable, protective, figure. Even if the parent is Hercules!
Also Adam played a character who was sexually very, very active and there’s a bunch of people who CANNOT differentiate between him and his character.
Again, some people who think they own him or can pass judgements on his personal life just because they see him in their screens all the time.
The Good Fans
I won’t go into majority or minority because of course I don’t have any statistics! But then here’s a section of amazing and fantastic fans who have an infatuation and are very aware of everything and in fact laugh it off and don’t assume a sort of right over their choice of actor!
So it is a bunch of people who are like “yum Driver is delicious!” or like “eyes, eyes Sobti’s eyes!” and THESE ARE THE SAME PEOPLE who would battle anyone who said that they should get different wives or shit like that.
They truly love the person. For their talent, personality, personal lives and with a healthy dose of naughtiness. John Oliver’s segment on Adam Driver always cracks me up because, at the end of the day, it’s a joke :)
These are the people who write excellent smut, and are very aware of the difference between the actor and character he plays, and are VERY RESPECTFUL in nature.
This bunch of fans wish they were married (in a completely hilarious, joking, way) to the actor, or had an intense eye staring (again, humor and silliness is the ultimate result), or at least danced/romanced their favorite actor.
Mainly, they love the actor, their characters, their families, their choice to be private and everything else!
The Respectful Fans
They are not infatuated with the actor, but deeply respect the actor and are ready to defend the actor against the world. I fall here, I don’t feel romantically inclined to do anything with the actor but I do love them, with all my heart and soul.
And maybe I would want someone to be the way the actor’s CHARACTERS behave. Or maybe have the actor’s qualities (presumed) of loyalty, kindness, etc?
“Thirst Tweets”
I have a love-hate relationship with this because you don’t know if it’s a person who is a Good Fan with some excellent smutty thoughts or it’s a Weird Fan. Also it puts a lot of us into the assumption that the actor wants to hear it?
And if it’s around promotions time then a lot of actors perform as their characters than themselves you know?
Some actors absolutely revel in it and know how to deflect the dirtiest of tweets with their comments - they’re absolutely in sync with the thoughts *Henry Cavill’s reaction is the best, even Tom Ellis*
And some actors, dear Lord, they are so embarrassed that they don’t know how to react, call out what’s weird but appreciate the sweet ones *Shawn Mendes*.
If You Love the Actor, Love their Private Lives
One final note in all of this, if we love the actor we must love his/her/their choice of privacy :) Actors like Sobti, Driver are intensely private so that should be taken into consideration :) I find it weird when some criticize that. It’s their life, we love them, we should love the entirety of them!
What do People Think About Crushes?
Sorry @shaonharryandpannisim, I’m finally coming to your question - I don’t know. But because of my little, weird travels through the several kind of fans - I just feel the need to explain people what I have when I say I ‘crush’ on someone.
That I genuinely love the actor, love their characters, can spend a few moments thinking that their the perfect creation of the Lord, if they played a character who’s single then would totally put my dibs on the character in the alternate universe BUT I HAVE NO REAL INTENTIONS FOR THE REAL PERSON. Please no.
Also, if they ended up being shitty people then I don’t care how handsome / talented the person is. They’re immediately out of my admiration list.
But I don’t think you have to worry because we all know what a sweet crush means for you and for most sensible people <3 Even actors have crushes - Ranbir Kapoor for Madhuri Dixit, etc.
Takeaway
If you’re sensible - CRUSH AWAY. Stay away from weird people. And generally people know what a genuine, sincere crush is so don’t worry (I might have just studied toxic celebrity culture in university too).
Some people who I know on Tumblr who really know how to show appreciation: @m0hinii / @tellywoodtrash, @ferociouspompom / @phati-sari, @zaphbeeblebrox, @arnavsinghraizada / @da-vinci-of-our-time-blog to name a few.
Thank you,
Tata,
S / Jalebi.

Hey TT, In your opinion, who has better chemistry. Barun & Sanaya or Nakuul & Surbhi. Are you still a fan of Barun because I used to be a fan, but i don't know why i don't really like him anymore maybe i just have changed a lot over the years lol. Have a wonderful week!!
Hi anon!
I’m always a fan of characters over actors; so I’ve only seen Sobti as Arnav and I appreciate his portrayal of the character, but I think that’s the only role I’ll ever like him in. Unless he comes in something super-interesting plot/character-wise (RIP Mohra/Satya Ki Kiran), I am not really inclined to follow his work. (Watched Tanhaiyaan; wasn’t impressed. Let’s not even talk about IPK3.)
For the chemistry, I’m inclined to answer Nakuul/Surbhi.
One: Coz it’s a little more overt. It could have to do with the way they’re portrayed by the show (via writing and production) and also their characters (much more dramatic and extraaaaaa by nature). Though the initial scenes for both couples were essentially the same, Arnav and Khushi were more subtle characters than Shivaay and Anika.
Two: I think Sobti was generally awkward/uncomfortable with romantic scenes. Sanaya has mentioned (in the interview with Gul) how he could be kinda uncooperative, taking her out of the zone too. In comparison, I think Nakuul and Surbhi are more collaborative. They take cues and play off each other’s performance in such scenes; that’s stuff that cannot be scripted. It comes naturally with time, depending on the equation you share with your costar. It’s the little things, like the gentle nose touches and the way he sometimes squinches his eyes while looking at her affectionately and stuff. I have a feeling they adlib the romantic scenes quite a bit (thus all the nonsense dialogues about her being “fat”/“bhaari” 🙄🙄🙄🙄) Problematic content of the dialogue aside, it expresses a natural ease between the two, and that comfort really shows on-screen.
Three: I’m very ‘out of sight, out of mind’. I haven’t watched IPKKND in a while now, and so my mind is just drawing a blank wrt specifics of the show. A few scenes jump out at me, but even so, they’re hazy. Plus I never really watched IPK with as close an eye as I do IB. So it’s quite possible that I just don’t remember the good chemistry they had, coz I don’t care about the show as much anymore.

EXCLUSIVE: BARUN SOBTI REVEALS ABOUT HIS NEXT PROJECT AFTER IPKKND 3 ENDS!
By Ankita Bhalla -October 6, 2017 || Link to original article
Barun Sobti is probably Television’s Golden Boy. His journey began on small screen with a faith-oriented show in 2009, Shraddha. As the main lead, Barun was seen opposite Ankita Sharma in 2010 series Baat Hamari Pakki Hai. But he capitulated to envious fame and success with 2011 romantic drama Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? As the rich, arrogant business tycoon Arnav Singh Raizada, Barun swept off every fan off her feet.  Touted as the Mills & Boon ‘perfect man’ by his female fans, his chemistry with Sanaya Irani is considered among the best till date on small screen. Owing to Barun’s immense popularity, a mini-series titled Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon Ek Jashn was aired on Hotstar followed with another web series Tanhaiyan where he was seen opposite Surbhi Jyoti. But created a stir was his return in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon 3, a new season, as Advay Singh Raizada.
However, today is the last day of  IPKKND3. The show which went on air in July 2017, will shut its curtain after a brief stint. Does Barun feel bad that the show which made him a household name, its third season came to an abrupt end? “No, it’s okay. The makers made a sequel and the whole hype attached to it. See, some things work out or things don’t work out. There’s hasn’t been one day of the show which I regretted, or not given my 100%. People have come back to me and said that you are amazing in the show. If still, it didn’t work out, then I have no other answer to it.”
While Barun stuck to a neat, prim & proper look in IPKKND season 1, in the third season, fans were in for a surprise when they saw him experimenting with his looks. From dhotis to harem pants, Barun’s wardrobe was a contrasting opposite to his real life image. “That was one of the key points initially, to separate the two characters. I never ever get into costumes. Trust me, whatever is given to me, I wear it. And that is my fundamental in life too. I am a big fan of business tycoon Warren Buffet. I once read a story about him that he has X number of companies and CEO’s and to all those, he writes only once in the financial year. His mantra is – ‘Hire the right person to do the right job.’ So for me, if I will get into fashion and styling my own looks, I will look like an idiot. Not known to many, but my wife Pashmeen loved my look is IPKKND3.”
As per fans, one of the key reasons why Iss Pyaar season 3 couldn’t work in the first place was the lead actress Shivani Tomar. While Barun’s pairing with Sanaya Irani and their scintillating chemistry in season 1 was the key factor of the show’s stupendous success, he and Shivani, together, failed to create the similar magic. However, Barun strongly disagrees. “Poor thing (Shivani), she didn’t do anything wrong. She was just looking for a job, got the part and did the show. As simple as that. People who out there are touting Shivani as the reason for the show’s end, is just not fair,” exclaims the actor.
So will Barun be seen soon on TV or is it just Bollywood for him now? “My career has been set up in a weird way. I tend to let go off biggest of things when I am not convinced with a project. I have friends, who are casting directors. Ask them. They say that we have already said no to a film on your (Barun) behalf because we know you won’t take up the part,” adds Barun.
We insist that unlike all his fans, we would love to see more of him onscreen and he jumps in, “That’s why, because I do good work. Either its TV, Web or Films my motto will remain the same – Good work!”
Tanhaiyan, the web series, fetched Barun positive reactions from all quarters. In today’s scenarios, with rampant censorship on films, mindless, infinite plots on TV shows, is Barun keen to take over the web world? “Shooting a web series has been a beautiful experience. There were no telecast problems. We shot it in a single go. We had our scripts beforehand. And I am always a game for such things. For my fans, I have something come up soon in that space, in a few months,” shares Barun!
Last but not the least, but if the makers of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon will come to Barun and Sanaya with a new season, will he be a game for it. “(Laughs) I can’t say. You even have to ask Sanaya. Dates bhi toh honi chahiye.”
Known for his intense, romantic scenes, is the otherwise shy Barun, open to get intimate on the big screen? Rumour has it, Barun’s reservations to not do such scenes is because of his wife Pashmeen. “No! She has nothing to do with it,” clears the actor and adds, “Rather my wife was the one who told me to go ahead and do a kiss scene, when and if required. But I am not comfortable with it. Though, my love scenes and chemistry with my co-stars onscreen suffices (Laughs).”
We wish all the best to Barun for his upcoming projects.
The bolding is mine, as is the italics of the show names.
Things I took away -- he’s again being very careful not to blame the channel or production house and is instead choosing language that implies it was a gamble that didn’t pay off. With Sobti, it’s always important to look at what he says AND what he doesn’t say. He lays the blame for making a sequel and hyping it up using IPKKND firmly at the feet of the makers though, which I found interesting.
Unlike Dogra and Pansare, he’s historically been very careful about what he says regarding the channel and production house, which is likely the reason they keep casting him for things. He makes good relationships and is diplomatic.
One thing I found interesting was that the article suggested that Ek Jashn was basically made because of Sobti’s popularity, which explains why Khushi was only present for two episodes. Perhaps the channel and/or production house mistakenly believed that Sobti was the reason people were tuning in, and interpreted the success of EJ as validation for this flawed hypothesis. This would then explain why the channel was so eager to relaunch IPKKND with Sobti only -- perhaps they genuinely didn’t realise that the popularity has less to do with Sobti’s hotness and more to do with the chemistry of the two leads, the amazing writing, and the superb performances they both gave. (I’d like to acknowledge that @puranijeans talked to me about this too!)
I think he would do well in another web series. I hope it’s with 4Lions again. 4Lions has proven that it is capable of delivering quality when it doesn’t have to pander to fandoms and ratings and censorship boards. I hope that, with practise, they’re able to usher in a new era for Indian television, one that isn’t so heavily reliant on ratings :)
I hope things go well for Sobti :)
