4. First Shepard; Paragon, Renegade, or Neutral?

I think my first shepard, who was eventually an abandoned femshep playthrough because I started using mods and preferring mshep (lol) was more on the paragon side.

5. Preferred alignment?

Renegade, by far. I like the dialogue options and the overall more ruthless and brutal stance Shepard can take on things. I really play closer to "Renegon" but overall renegade is just a lot of fun. And the scars are sick as hell.

6. Preferred Shepard backstory (colonist, earthborn, spacer)?

Spacer. I like the idea of Hannah Shepard as a character you can interact with just a little, and I've had a lot of fun envisioning this relationship between Regis, my main shepard, and her as being quite strained. A perfect paragon Admiral in the Alliance versus the fallen Renegade Butcher of Torfan... very fun to explore.

20. Post Suicide Mission survival rate?

With Regis's canon, I lost Garrus, Grunt, and Legion due to Risky Suicide Mission, a mod that introduces some randomization and other neat mechanics to make the suicide mission actually feel like one. I would in fact choose to kill off those three intentionally since I like my ME3 world state without them/don't really care for them, so 9/12 would be my survival rate.

21. Favorite ME2 Squad combo?

Zaeed and Miranda. Great skills, I've made them match with my mods, and they're my favorites in the game.

26. Blue, Green, Red, or Fuck You?

Red, always. Destroy was always the goal, so it's the obvious choice for me.

44. A character you'd love to drop in a volcano and forget about?

Liara. I mean Therum is right there... but honestly, I hated the direction they went with her with 2 and beyond, and at least Garrus, my second choice for this question, I can get rid of in 2. I can't get rid of Liara, and if they didn't do the Liara grabs Shepard's corpse and delivers it to Cerberus plot line, I'd probably be a little more neutral meh on her. And if the game let me not be besties with her. And not forced to take her to Thessia... I could go on and on tbh.

54. Your absolutely NOTP

Shakarian, Shiara, Garrus/Tali, and EDI/Joker. I don't have one lol

First two because I don't like the characters and tbh why I can never really release a Shepard sculpt (sorry, I'm very biased and once I make a Shepard, he's mine and Kaidan's). Garrus/Tali came out of absolutely nowhere and I never got couple vibes from them, especially with Garrus's terrible elevator dialogue towards her in 1. Felt like a terrible "pair the spares" thing. And EDI/Joker isn't bad, but I vastly prefer them as friends tbh.

Kiernan Shepard HCs

Pre-service:

An unregulated Navy brat, Kiernan was known for misbehaving but they could never quite catch her

She’d always enlist the help of any other kids on the station at the time to help her pull off a prank or get something done and they’d never rat each other out

That being said, she never really felt close to any of them and her only emotional stimulation came from her mum who did her best to balance parenting and service

Well, that and the fact that her mum taught her French and they had a lot of laughs using it to have personal conversations even in a crowded room

Her dad was honourably discharged with an injury when she was about 17 but by that time, she was well past the point where they could have really connected

She’s not too fussed about it, it’s just a fact of life that he wasn’t around when she was growing up so she didn’t even bat an eye when he left for another station to receive some experimental treatment for his injuries

After that, she and her mother drifted apart more, her mother just going on to achieve higher ranks and more medals, adding to the already stifling pressure of being the Shepard kid

Her biotic powers manifested very early on and as soon as she qualified for boot camp, she was given an L3 implant, though an L2 was discussed once a thorough examination of her abilities was conducted to get a better grasp of her full potential

She made the executive decision to take the L3 as soon as they were cleared for use as she already suffered from dyskinesia and amaurosis fugax (temporary bouts of albeit painless loss of vision in one or both eyes) as a result of the eezo exposure and didn’t want to get saddled with something even worse as a result of prolonged use of the L2

That being said, the L3 had very little impact on the actual threshold of her powers, outshining even the most promising L2 soldiers

By training as a Vanguard, she was able to hide her dyskinesia from her superiors as a shotgun requires a lot less finesse than an AR or sniper rifle and if her amaurosis flared up, she could fall back on her biotics

Her genetic enhancements did manage to curb her conditions for a short period of time, but after using her powers frequently during a simulation or an actual firefight, they act up for about a week at the most before subsiding

General:

Kiernan immediately gets along with Wrex, and they have mutual respect for each other as warriors, though they always get into pissing contests over how they got their scars

Kiernan has fewer scars but she passes it off as “being so good she never gets hurt badly enough” and Wrex just laughs it off

Garrus starts hiding in the engine room whenever she and Wrex start sparring in the armoury because how is he supposed to focus on his calculations when they’re knocking each other senseless

Wrex takes on an almost brotherly role, helping Kiernan with her powers and giving her a few tips derived from Krogan battle tactics

She definitely enables Garrus and his hunt for Dr. Saleon purely because Garrus’s own drive sets her off

She’s not intentionally a violent person, she just knows that she’s good at fighting and might as well get praise for doing it well

She’s gotten really good at interacting with people piecemeal, for her parents she’s the legacy-carrying miracle child, for the Alliance, she’s the butcher of Torfan, etc.

It’s a lot easier to fixate on a single facet of herself than to ruin people’s image of her

After finding out about Ashley’s family, she starts bringing her on more missions because she understands carrying that burden

President of the Anti-Udina club

She just hates politics as a whole, honestly wouldn’t know what way the wind was blowing if she spit right into it

That being said she’s actually surprisingly good at getting her own way

Shaynor + Some Post-Trilogy Stuff

At first, Kiernan is apprehensive towards Traynor because she doesn’t want to get attached to anyone after everything she’s been through

Traynor starts growing on her though after a while and Kiernan finds herself practically racing back to the Normandy after every mission just to see her

Though, she tells herself it’s because they don’t have a lot of time and she has a lot of work to do but she still finds herself lingering at Traynor’s station to check in with her

Traynor’s anxiety reminds her of going through the Academy so she’s quick to compliment her and recognise her contributions to the crew

Which indirectly just makes Kiernan fall for her more because seeing Traynor grow more confident just tugs at her heartstrings, as much as she tries to keep their relationship light

Kiernan using her biotics to move things to spook Traynor. That’s all.

Traynor and Wrex are the only people she’d ever let make jokes about her or talk back to her

Kiernan even nicknames her shotgun “Sam”

Even though she buys Traynor a new chess set, Traynor only plays the GUI version if it’s with Kiernan because her tremors make it hard to lift and move physical pieces

Everyone jokes about Kiernan going soft after she falls in love with Traynor but if anything she just gets even worse because now she actually has something to fight for

She calls Traynor a ton of pet names when they’re alone, but among her favourites is “mon bonheur” (my happiness)

Speaking of, Traynor tries asking her to teach her some French and at first, they keep getting “distracted” but eventually, Kiernan teaches her a few phrases but tells her the opposite of what they mean

This leads to yet another very interesting conversation between Traynor and EDI and not even Tali almost poisoning herself with cheese can stop that awkwardness

Traynor tries to give her the silent treatment for it but Kiernan’s gotten maybe a little too good at breaking down her defences

When Shep survives after destroying the Reapers, Liara is brought on because she has all the files from the Lazarus project and the Alliance do all they can to reconstruct her though she’s bumped up to being 45% cybernetic instead of the previous 30

During her recovery, she sneaks off-site to get a message out to Traynor

Initially, Traynor thinks she’s hallucinating but then Ashley (who was given the Normandy per Kiernan’s last requests), sees the message and rumours start to spread about whether Shepard is really alive or not

They do end up with the house with a white picket fence but Traynor doesn’t get the retriever she wanted because Shep comes back with a varren pup, one of Urz’s litter (Grunt’s idea of a housewarming gift) and initially shes totally against it so they end up with a compromise - the varren’ll be the SR-2 crew’s “dog” and at home they’ll have the black labrador Traynor was planning to adopt

Traynor’s really sulky at first because the lab won’t leave Kiernan’s side and shoves her out the way when it gets up on the bed or the couch

WORLD SWAP! Zofia is now in Thedas, what race and class, and... uh... pick a disaster child and put them in Mass Effect, and what class and paragon or renegade? (You can also do origins if you want/see one that really fits)

ahhhh omg this is such a good question I love it

Zofia I see fitting best into Origins - you’re one of the only people who can stop a coming end-of-the-world except everyone else is too busy politicking to listen to you and do something about it, and you’re authorized by nature of what your title is (Spectre/Grey Warden) to do what you must to get the job done.

Honestly, Zofia and Iveta would be a pretty clean switch. They’re both two of my colder, more calculated, “ends justify the means” type kids. Zofia’s definitely a warrior, sword and shield, that she gets in there and tanks everything. And the Cousland origin, with that whole “everyone you love is dead horribly and you survive the massacre, have fun with your life” runs similarly to the colonist origin in ME, which is what Zofia is. 

Although, it’d be interesting, I’d probably make Zofia younger if I were to put her as the warden, and right after the death of her family - she would probably be more brash and impulsive and less calculated than I play her as Shepard. Whereas Iveta, at the age that Shepard is, would have evened out some. She’s still calculated, sometimes seeming ruthless or harsh, but she gets the job done and she does have a place where she sees yes, that cost is too high. 

The big difference I’d see between them is that Zofia is a soldier first, while Iveta is a politician first. They both play at both - Iveta is a better soldier than Zofia is a politician - but when it comes down to it, Zofia looks at things in terms of force and short-term, while Iveta plots out more of the long game and works more with the value of alliances and appearances and reputations. Like the big choice at the end of ME1, save the Alliance ships or save the Council. Zofia saved the Alliance ships, because yeah shit’s gonna go down for letting the Council die but that hardly matters if they don’t defeat Sovereign now, and they need hte Alliance ships for that. Whereas Iveta is going to count a little more on, yeah we can defeat Sovereign in some way, and saving the Council endears us more to them, in the long run gets us more power and gets us more places.

Iveta would be just a soldier, I think, no biotics or tech or anything, and I’m thinking the spacer origin - parents were military as well, Shep is following that legacy - and.... sole survivor, I’d say, leaning a little more towards that than ruthless for the psych profile. She would be a weird renegon mix - renegade out in the field, whereas back on the ship or the Citadel, very paragon when dealing with the Council, superiors, etc., but a lot of it wouldn’t be sincere paragon.

After this huge analysis of my two terrible daughters, consider this other thought for the world swap:

Catalina Tabris Shepard, earthborn war hero, started from the bottom scrapping in the streets and suddenly dumped into the spotlight for saving everyone, now has to do it again. Mostly paragon, wants to help and save everyone, but absolutely has a penchant for cursing people out, has a short temper, and enjoys kicking assholes out of windows. She and Wrex are the fucking dream team by which I mean they’re an absolute nightmare for anyone to deal with. Absolute best bros who you can’t turn your back on or else they’ve started ten fights, gotten banned from three bars, and won leadership of a mercenary gang by terms of “you break it you bought it” when they killed the last leader. If possible, no one thought it could be but it seems to be, she and Grunt are even worse.

Favorite Character?

When I have to pick just one, it’s always Kaidan Alenko, hands down. A wonderful, sadly maligned character with a lovely romance. Not to mention he’s connected with lore I’ve found really interesting since the first game, which is human biotics and what they have to go through.

(Miranda Lawson and Garrus Vakarian are right behind him, though.)

Paragon or Renegade?

Both of my Shepards mixed it up, with Evie being a Paragade and John being a Renegon. Luckily they had enough of their dominant characteristic that it didn’t give me problems. Out of the two, I prefer Paragon.

Favorite Class?

Vanguard. I really like playing magic/combat hybrid classes in RPGs and ME is no exception.

War Hero, Sole Survivor, or Ruthless?

All three are great for backstory, but Sole Survivor is my favorite. I liked that it was a middle ground between the other two Service History backgrounds: many lauded Shep for being able to survive when the entire rest of their squad was brutally wiped out while others looked at them with suspicion and wondered just how they managed to do that since Shep’s word is the only thing they have to go on. Plus, Toombs is one of my favorite NPCs in the first game.

(I’ve seen people deride SS for being unbelievable since you run into Thresher Maws on multiple planets and they’re not terribly difficult to dispatch -- that’s actually a good point, but I think the Thresher Maw that took Shepard’s squad was probably in the Kalros weight class).

Spacer, Colonist, or Earthborn?

Spacer. I loved that Shep’s mom is still alive and we get to talk to/about her during the course of the games.

Favorite Alien?

Turians, hands down. Love their design, their culture, and their tendency to mangle human idioms.

Favorite Planet/Location?

The Citadel.

Favorite DLC?

Lair of the Shadow Broker, with Citadel coming in at a very close second.

Favorite Weapon?

It’s hard to remember all of the ones I liked, but my Shep ended ME3 using the Disciple shotgun, with the Black Widow SR as a backup weapon.

Favorite Shepard/OC?

My canon character Evie Shepard. She’s the chick in my icon.

Favorite Mission?

Lair of the Shadow Broker.

Favorite Track?

I love quite a few, but I’ll say The Illusive Man because it’s probably the one I listen to most often.

ME1, ME2, or ME3?

Urrrghhh, that’s difficult. ME1 was great, had great atmosphere all around, and it’s probably the one I’ve played the most. ME2 made me actually love Team Dextro instead of mostly being “Meh” about them, not to mention it gave me my favorite DLC while introducing Miranda and The Illusive Man. And the improved combat. (I just wish the ambush on the Normandy had been better; suddenly Shepard has to take every single squadmember off the ship despite never doing so before to go do… something. Because how else is the crew going to get kidnapped?) I guess I’ll say ME3. The game was amazing and fun, despite the corny nightmare sequences and the problems I had with the ending. Plus it gave us Multiplayer and the Citadel DLC, both of which I loved.

SR-1 or SR-2?

SR-2, ‘cuz it’s bigger, prettier, and there’s more areas for interesting cutscenes. Not to mention Shepard’s improved cabin.
