Yeah I also got spoiled by the heart tweets, but in a way I'm kinda glad it happened because it made me focus on robbie for the entire last ten minutes of the episode, and it was so interesting to see him - trying to find the right moment, every now and then starting to speak up and then stopping when someone else does too, having made the decision of what he's about to do and KNOWING it has to be the last scene of the episode after all these other chucklefucks finish their fun and games. And he did such a good job I'm so so so happy with how they both dealt with this!!!

In reference to the last ask you posted! Do you mind going over your tips on role-playing as that active-type character and/or digging up the thread of conversation it seems the original asker was referring to? I'm so interested in your experience role-playing for both prep in possibly joining a game someday and also bc it sounds like such good character creation and general writing advice!!!! I tried checking you blog but didnt turn up anything that touched pn it more (No worries if not though!)

My advice is make characters that create opportunities for story.

Reacting to a story is fun! Reacting to a character is fun! But if you're always reacting then you're creating opportunity for other characters to react, so sometimes you gotta Act to let the other characters and the story React.

To do this, characters should all want something. And not something vague (like "to be happy"), it should be something more tangible, more specific, and everything else can stem from there. It'll guide your character naturally. It's their Motivation.

More under the cut (or skip to the end for more standard advice)

For example, my dnd character Dandelion wanted more than anything to go home. "Going home" meant a lot of things, yeah it means being happy, it means he wants to be with his family, it means he wants to be loved, it means he wants to feel safe, it means he wants to belong somewhere, but the tangible idea is "go home."

Because I knew this is what he wanted most of all it guided all his actions, and his actions for better or for worse all made sense because of it (and I made it clear that was what he wanted "on-screen" on multiple occasions). So anything that involved the idea of getting home would activate him, and he'd also deeply empathize with anyone and anything else away from home/away from family. Giving him one strong, clear motivation instantly made him an active participant in the story. This made him active with other characters too, any mention of home, any mention of family, any idea of not belonging, it drew him toward them.

(as a DM now this is also what I need more than anything, what's your hook? how can I tempt you? how can I make your character move forward? how can I make your character react? also characters that create opportunity for story take a LOT of work off the DM's shoulders in my experience, it shows you're engaged and it feels less like dragging a cat around on a leash haha like "are you enjoying this? do you want this? i don't know! please give me something!")

my more standard advice?

Be a good listener

Be present (in the moment)

Be curious

Be the biggest fan of all the characters

Put your story on-screen frequently, give people the opportunity to react to it and join in on it (this can be as simple as "my character's body language changes at the mention of 'home')

Create opportunities for the other characters to have their story on-screen (ask them questions! if you know what the character's buttons are and it makes sense in the moment, press them! listen to what they're saying, pay attention to what they're doing, and react to it)

Interact with the world! Interact with each other! And make these things mean something to your character!

Your character should make mistakes. Mistakes create opportunity for everyone.

If there's a genre, or theme, play toward them earnestly.

The more you RP, the better you'll get at it! It's a process and that's okay!

my little tip for knowing whether your character is Active vs Reactive: if the story were a musical, do they have an I Want song? do they have multiple moments for songs within the narrative? have they shared a duet with another character? do their songs change, evolve? songs happen for important moments in a musical so if you're not contributing to important moments, it may mean you're reacting more than you're acting. which is fine if you're playing a game solo and are granted access to the narrative by virtue of being the designated main character, but because RPing is collaborative storytelling, everyone should be doing their part!

i personally like sam claflin’s take on finnick’s family history (there’s an interview iirc he gave after catching fire where he talks a little on it) that he lost his parents when he was young because they were part of some riots in the district during the 51-65th games & that’s what makes him all the more willing to join the rebellion later (& explains his relationship with mags). it’s a means of being close to them and it’s a chance to make them proud & katniss is proof of that being possible to finnick for the first time in a long time

The location Clown had been left in was a room. A rather small room.

This universe seemed to be set to some sort of eternal night; eigengrau grays that covered the area, though there were streetlights outside. It seemed off, and perhaps it was due to the lack of any distinct persons awake or walking around. As if it was only this room that mattered in the world, that somehow everywhere else outside was a sort of prop or background.

There was a light on in the room—a lamp that was set to dim. And the room wasn't too much of a mess. A closet in one corner, a few mannequins with other, jester-like outfits, and different schematics of existing (?) daycare attendants could be seen around the room, as well as on top of the dresser next to the closet.

A bed was in one corner, though it was rumpled.

And... who the room seemingly belonged to? Was a jester, who had fallen asleep in a chair. A startled noise had spilled out of him as he jingled in confusion, looking around wildly and. The faceless being stopped to just. Stare. At Clown. He really had been getting lucky seeing so many DCAs recently, but this was. A bit of a surprise.

Wait. Waitwaitwait—he knew who this bot was. Oh god, he had given him flowers. The lamp was illuminating his face (or lack of) as he stiffened. What. What did he say here? Moonmoon liked Clown, but? Hwuh? How did he get here—how was this universe found. That was going to be more of his concern for a while. But, right now. Figure out how to. Interact with Clown. He could do that, right? Right????

The Mechanic (somehow) watches TAG for the Thunderversary: Ring of Fire Parts 1 + 2

"It has been suggested that I offer my perspective on recent dealings as someone who has worked for The Hood and International Rescue." The Mechanic looks somewhat perplexed by the turn of events. He's not entirely sure why people would want his point of view, especially because it means he has to spend time thinking about The Hood when there are better things to do... but he decides to go along with it anyway.

"I will only comment on what I was involved with. I cannot make assumptions about missions International Rescue completed. That being said, I will try to complete this series in a timely manner."

Ring of Fire Part 1.

"...considering I had a hand in these, I want to apologise." The Mechanic actually looks guilty. He knows that this wasn't an isolated incident of Gordon getting injured on missions where he or The Hood were involved. "I hope it didn't hurt too much."

"I do remember this warehouse. The Hood had me assemble the seaquake machines from here. It was filthy. He..." The Mechanic pauses, a frown slowly creasing his face, "This was his grand re-entry to the world. A demonstration of power and the arsenal he built by his side. I don't know how long I'd been chained to his side at this point - a side-effect of the implant, I presume."

"Ah. This."

The Mechanic almost laughs at the memory of the broadcast. It was meant to make The Hood appear as a terrifying villain to the world, to scare them into submission. He remembers it very differently.

"I was tasked with preparing the broadcast and taking over relevant broadcasting channels. I'd attached an override module to a TV satellite to it went faulty at the last minute. Fortunately, Alan fixed it for me. Well, unfortunately for the world. But it was to my benefit, and I didn't want The Hood to throw a tantrum and have yet another reason to torture me using the implant."

There's a big grin on his face now.

"I was holding his speech up for him. He'd been planning his little speech for weeks. Weeks of preparation and practice... and he still needed cue cards."

Ring of Fire Part 2.

"I was still holding his cue cards."

"I was impressed. Not outwardly, of course." The Hood would have had his head on a silver platter had he known how excited The Mechanic had been at seeing International Rescue gain the upper hand so easily. "I didn't know International Rescue's full capabilities at this point. Finding out that it was the youngest who placed the override on our satellite gave me a very good idea as to what they could do."

I wanted to draw this scene since this episode came out. It's the moment Lass is dancing with Carmichael. I don't know why, but I love this scene.

It makes me wish we had more time with the rest of the crew before she gets separated.

A groan escaped as a winged figure regained their bearings upon landing in a strange place, heart shaped irises slowly look around as the being in question realized that they were in a entirely new world all together.

As the winged being got up to dust off their clothes of any dirt, they took notice of their now hands instead of cookie nubs as it seems that they were now a winged human!

The being known as Pavlova Cookie or in this case just Pavlova gasped in response as he then looked around with both curiosity as well as alertness, just where exactly did he end up?

First things first, he needed to search for clues so he flapped his now larger wings as he took to the skies, soaring as he kept a eye out for anything or anyone that may be nearby.

As he explored with a overwhelming fascination, he didn't notice a snare trap springing up as he was suddenly caught within it's deadly grasp as one of the ropes tightening harshly around his throat to keep him down.

Not good! He was starting to lose consciousness the more he struggled! He tries to slow down his breathing and kept completely still just in case whoever set this approached, he closed his eyes and laid there all wrapped up with some of the ropes even entangled deep in his meringue scented feathers.

Alright, I promised lore so here we go! Here's a quick disclaimer! With Drelora, I have tied her backstory in with the main plot line of the Dark Urge storyline as well as Bg3 as much as I can. There are some creative liberties I did take because of certain things that I liked when it came to me creating her so if you see any discrepancies with lore and what not, well, I tried lmao

First let's start with her name: Drelora Zar'ae. The only thing drow about it is her last name, which means 'shadow dancer'. I gave it to her as a way to tie in to her class and subclass, which is a Rogue Assassin. But she is also multiclassed with College of Swords Bard, which comes in later on in her story. So yeah, there's the basics of

Class: Rogue Assassin/ College of Swords Bard

Background: Haunted One

So with Drelora Zar'ae, she wakes up with no memories and just her name. Over time and over the course of the story, she starts to get pieces of who she was, like her expert assassin skills in murder and killing, but also, that she has a dark past that seems to be related to murder. Was she always this good at killing? How long did it take for her to learn these skills? Questions that she will continue to ponder along the course of her adventure.

During the course of Bg3, she has strange dreams of a familiar melody that she can't seem to get out of her mind along with two people. A drow child that looked similar to her but with red eyes. And a beautiful elf with dark hair, laying in a bed of roses. This haunting but beautiful song resonates with her, almost as if it was a song that she knew all of her life, and a dream she has had many times.

These two people from her dreams were important to her but what she doesn't know is that they were two people she murdered and were dead before the events of Bg3. The drow child was her sister, Erelas, the first person she feels she truly murdered. The other person was the love of her life, Anireth, an elf that she madly fell in love with and would be deemed as "the one who got away" but in a twisted, bloody version of it.

I will have to go more in depth with both of those in a separate post because they both are now fully fleshed out and everything.

Once she gets most of her memories back, she finds out that she was the scion/Chosen of Bhaal and that she was chosen for Bhaal's prophecy with Orin, and now it's up to her whether or not, she keeps her title as the Chosen of Bhaal, or reject her Father's will and be her own person.

And that's the basis of Drelora Zar'ae! I'll have to break down more lore details with her story with more posts, but I wanted to get the main idea out at least, and then start expanding out with the other details. I'll even go into her bg3 romance storyline with Minthara, annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd her romance arc with Kanara, a Tav that she is in a RP with currently that follows the events of Bg3.
