Summer Time Rendering got released in the US and I’m losing my goddamn mind.
Couldn’t have come at a better time because I’m nauseous and I haven’t been able to hold down anything I’ve eaten since last night.

Social Media AU - Social Killing (Part 24)
We’ll be taking a little closer look at the show itself next time...and we’ll see just how Richie’s performance is recieved by the fans 👀
I know the writing for the interview is small, so I’ve put the transcript below just in case anyone needs it!
Also, yes, I am in fact a giant moron who wrote that Social Killing was a weekend-show, and have only now realized that in the interview, it says “Wednesday night” because I wrote it like a month back and forgot I put that. Please pretend that the publication in charge of the interview got the wrong day, and that it is in fact Sunday nights!
----------
Our correspondent, Vincent Lewis, sat down with the main cast of the upcoming Hulu drama “Social Killing” this afternoon to learn more about the show, as well as what drew the cast to the project and what it was like to work together.
Vince: Hello, it’s wonderful to meet you all.
Riley Andersen: Aww, it’s nice to meet you too!
Vince: I can imagine it’s been a long day of press and interviews for you all.
Richie Tozier: Too long.
Jay B: It’s been insane to be honest. It’s unlike anything any of us have ever seen, I think.
Evan Harrison: Yeah, but it’s been fun too, in a weird way.
Vince: I’ll get right to it then. First of all, congratulations to all of you on the show, it’s been receiving rave reviews all around, and it looks like it’s set to be a hit.
Jay: Thanks.
Vince: So, can you tell us a little bit about the characters you four play? No spoilers necessary, just the basic so we know who’s who!
(All four look at each other and laugh)
Richie: I mean…
Evan: Ladies first!
Riley: (laughing) Geez, you guys are mean! Okay, so I play Hailey and she’s a cheerleader at Blackwood High, where the series is set, and she’s...complicated. She isn’t the stereotypical mean cheerleader you usually see in television shows, but she’s definitely not above doing what it takes for her to stay on top.
Vince: Interesting! Gentlemen…?
Evan: Okay, so I play Blake, who’s this kind of preppy, snobbish guy who went to boarding school but has transferred to Blackwood for unknown reasons. He knows pretty much all the town’s secrets since he comes from a rich family and so he kind of has his links everywhere in town.
Jay: I play Sean, who’s this beloved teacher at the school - all the students love him since he’s not stuffy or uptight. He’s kinda the cool English teacher who’s probably smoked a spliff with all his students at some point. But he has a double life that no one knows about, and he wants it to stay that way because he’s seeking justice for something that’s happened to him in the past few years.
Richie:...Oh shit, me. I play a guy called Ted, and he’s brand new to town because he’s looking for a new start after something super tragic happened in his past. So he takes the drama teacher position that just opened up, and he starts to realize that something is kind of off about the town - which, you know, is kinda understatement of the fucking century!
Vince: So everyone’s got a secret then…
Riley: Basically none of us can be trusted, that’s what you should know.
Vince: Now obviously, Jay, you’ve been working pretty consistently in the business since you were young - you would do Canadian kids DIY shows and Québécois dubbing, is that correct?
Jay: Yeah. God, how fucking lame is that?
Vince: No, no, I used to love watching those Canadian kids shows! But since becoming an adult, you’ve done all sorts - comedy, obviously, drama, horror, animation...so what led you to “Social Killing”?
Jay: Well, I mean, my agent sent me a script and I was like ‘holy shit this could be good’; then I saw that Richie fucking Tozier was getting involved and I was like ‘okay, drop everything, I have GOT to do this damn show now’.
Vince: Did you two know each other before doing the show?
Richie: I mean, kinda. He came backstage at some of my shows a few times, and I was like ‘this guy is fucking awesome’. He’s Canadian, so that’s why.
Jay: I’m a very proud Canadian, yeah. Sorry, America, but Canada is the greatest country in the world.
Riley: America sucks right now, so don’t apologize.
Jay: But yeah, I’ve always wanted the chance to work with Richie on something since he’s one of my favourite comedians, so this was a huge opportunity for me.
Richie: And then he actually met me properly and regretted that shit.
(All of them crack up laughing)
Vince: As I understand it, Riley, you’re not entirely new to the world of show business either, because before joining the show you were a dancer.
Richie: Wait, what??
Riley: Yeah, I was. I was a professional dancer.
Jay: Jesus Christ.
Richie: A fucking PROFESSIONAL dancer?!
Riley: Oh come on, you guys knew I was a dancer!
Richie: Not professionally! I thought you just did it for a hobby, not as an actual job!
Riley: Anyway...I danced back-up for a few people, did some background dance work on movies and shows, but this is my first time acting.
Evan: And she’s incredible at it. It’s amazing.
Vince: As I understand it, Evan, you’re also brand new?
Evan: Well, this is my first big role. I did some theatre for a few years, played some gigs at bars to get by, but this is what I really want to be doing. I was so excited when I got cast that I nearly started crying - it’s a dream come true.
Riley: Aww.
Vince: Finally, Richie… You’re a fantastic stand-up comedian, I love your work, but this is your first time acting in anything. What made you want to transition from stand up to television, especially now?
Richie: Woah, yeah, I mean...yeah. (laughs) Honestly, I wanted to do something new. A lot of stuff has changed in the last few years, mostly the content of my stand-up, and I want to distance myself from that old shit as much as possible. And, you know, I’m married now, we’re expecting our first kid soon, so it’s all super serious and shit.
Vince: Congratulations!
Richie: Yeah, thanks! So with the show, I wanted to just...show that I could do it, I guess. Show I was more than just some shitty comedian doing misogynistic jokes that weren’t true. The writers approached me originally since they wanted some humor in the show, but...I guess they liked the other stuff I did once I was on-set.
Riley: Just for the record, I like your new stuff better.
Jay: Oh yeah, for real.
Evan: I still remember seeing the comeback show, first time you did your own material, and I was so blown away. Not just the actual material, but the way you performed and talked about your friends on-stage...it was amazing.
Richie: Thanks, man.
Vince: So, what was it like for the four of you to work together? Were there any scenes where all four of you were present?
Jay: Oh, man…
Evan: (mock dying) Spoilers. Can’t. Give. Them. Away.
Richie: Yeah, you can't see it, but in the building across the road there’s a Hulu representative with a sniper ready to take us out if they think we’ll fuck up.
Vince: Alright, alright, I get it! But what was it like working together? Fun?
Riley: Oh yeah. Definitely. These three guys are super funny and great to work with, you know? Evan would sing songs on set between takes, and we’d all have little impromptu karaoke sessions. Jay is just...really sweet but funny, he keeps quiet sometimes but he genuinely is really fun to be around; he goes nuts about hockey. Richie kept us all laughing, of course, even when we had to shoot more challenging scenes - without giving too much about the show away, there were times where we would be filming, and we’d all be feeling down or tired, and it was really hard. But Richie would keep our spirits up by making jokes, and making sure we were all hanging in there.
Evan: Yeah, Richie’s the best.
Riley: He’s a talented actor too, which is nice to work with.
Jay: Aww jeez, Riley…
Richie: You’re making us sound awesome, and we look like assholes just sitting here nodding.
Evan: To be honest, I worked more with Riley than anyone else and she really undersells herself.
Richie: Yeah. She’s actually super funny - I mean, she’s great on the show but she pulls off comedy pretty well too. I think she’d do pretty well on a comedy show or something. You know, if the show doesn’t work out. (Winks)
Riley: Coming from Trashmouth Tozier, that’s like...the most wonderful thing someone has ever said to me. Oh my god.
Vince: Well, I was going to ask what it was like, being surrounded by all male leads - obviously there are females too, but you four are the focus, and you’re the only woman.
Riley: (laughing) Shh, I don’t think- I don’t think they’ve realized I’m not a guy yet! Don’t tell them!
Jay: Nah, she’s one of the guys clearly!
Richie: Wait, you’re a WOMAN? My life has been a lie, Riley Andersen!
Riley: The blonde ponytail and cheerleading skirt didn’t give it away then.
Richie: It’s 2018, anything can happen. I’d wear a cheerleading skirt. I’m sure my husband would be up for that.
Evan: I am very jealous that Riley got to wear the skirt and I didn’t. It would have made my ass look fantastic.
Jay: I’m not sure if my fiancée would be amused or terrified by me in a cheerleading outfit. I’m like 110lbs soaking wet, so fuck knows what I’d look like.
Riley: (throwing her arms around him) Jay, no, you’d look great! Be more confident in yourself!
Richie: (in a Canadian accent) It’s his Canadian modesty, eh?
Jay: (laughing) Fuck off.
Richie: (still-Canadian-accent) Still mad you left your tuque in the washroom, eh?
Evan: Oh god.
Vince: On that note...thank you so much for meeting with me. Good luck with the show!
“Social Killing” starts 9pm on Wednesday night on Hulu.

If someone wanted to get into anime, what would you recommend as a good place to start? Or is it different based on a person's interests? I'm a wlw so anything with wlw would be preferred.
Oh man, this is a toughie… It really depends on what you’re into? Like my three top anime genres are things that contain wlw, psychological thrillers/horror, and comedic slice-of-life. It’s a huge bonus if all three somehow manage to overlap!
If you’re most interested in wlw stories, you’re going to want to look for a genre of anime called “yuri.” Now yuri encomasses all wlw content in anime, which means the content can be purely romantic and/or sexually explicit, so keep that in mind. A sub-category within yuri is “GL” (short for “girl love”) which tends to focus more on the romance aspect without the sexual. In my day, this used to be referred to as “shoujo-ai” but it seems this has/had a different use/connotation in Japan. The more you know!
As for starting out, I got my start with anime as a kid in the 90s with Sailor Moon, but that show is literally 5 seasons long with 200 episodes and three feature-length movies, so that’s a huge time commitment. That being said, it does contain canon wlw, implied wlw crushes, and a cool fantasy story with lots of positive girl power themes. It’s also hugely influential to pop culture in general. Hulu has a very well done English dub if you don’t want to constantly read subtitles, though Hulu also offers the original Japanese with subs.
I don’t know which to recommend as a starter, necessarily, but I can list what anime I’ve watched or at least what I can remember watching and tell you a little about it. As for anime you shouldn’t watch until you’re more experienced, I’ll leave a note about those.
This is long af so I’m putting it under a cut to save everyone’s dashboards.
Slice-of-Life (Comedy)
Azumanga Daioh – This show is so funny you’ll laugh until you cry. It’s mostly pretty wholesome. As far as I can recall, if there’s any wlw content it’s only minorly implied as schoolgirl crushes. Meant for any age. This actually might be a really good starter anime!
Nichijou – This is like Azumanga Daioh on steroids. The humor can get incredibly absurd, but it will also make you laugh until you cry. Less wholesome but nothing outrageous. Definitely meant for teens.
WLW Anime (aka the thing I have consumed WAY too much of)
Revolutionary Girl Utena – One of my all-time favorite anime. Tells the story of a girl who longs to become a prince – it’s the magical girl concept with some interesting twists! Sword fights, lots of flowers, tons of symbolism, incredible music.  Every single person in this show is at least bisexual. This can be a really heavy anime at times. There’s violence and blood (though nothing terribly gory) and there’s heavily implied sexual imagery and symbolism throughout. Overall, it’s considered a masterpiece of the genre and it’s stood the test of time.
Yuri Kuma Arashi – The same director behind Utena returns decades later with a show about…magical girls who turn into bears…who also are hopeless lesbians. It’s absolutely ridiculous, adorable, has comedy, some drama, more implied sexual content (more explicit than Utena, though never graphic). I don’t know if I’d necessarily recommend it, but I watched it and enjoyed it, though it didn’t particularly stick with me afterward.
Hibike! Euphonium (literally, “Sound! Euphonium) – A school-life show that shows the life and times of a competitive high school band trying to win competitions. Romance sparks between some of the girls including the main protagonist, ooh la la! Very cute, fun, strong animation, and you learn a lot of instruments and music.
Strawberry Panic! – I am both aging and embarrassing myself by even mentioning this anime, so I hope ur happy, Anon. This show is basically lesbian, all-girls Hogwarts where three houses within a swanky private school compete to have someone from their house be the head bitch in charge of campus. There’s a faux lesbian wedding ceremony involved. Everyone is gay. It’s pure, undiluted fan-service. Sexual stuff implied, but never explicit. If you just want 26 episodes of lesbian drama with some comedy and slice-of-life elements sprinkled in, go for it. It’s 100% yuri in every way.
Maria-Sama ga Miteru (”Maria Watches Over Us” in English, frequently shortened to “Marimite”) – This is basically the classy version of Strawberry Panic, i.e. if Strawberry Panic! is a summer blockbuster, Marimite is the movie that’s going to be nominated for an Oscar. It deals with the same themes (private Catholic all-girls school), but is slower, more dramatic, and the build-up of relationships is ultra slow-burn. Basically get ready to pine right along with the main characters.
Sakura Trick – I know i’ve seen some of this, but can’t remember if I ever finished it… I only remember that it’s really cute and shows school girls having wholesome crushes/romances with each other. Lots of blushing and pining and secret kisses and shit.
Blue Drop – I watched this anime a thousand years ago and all I remember is that it’s dramatic, it’s slow, the animation is nice, the girls are gay af, and it is SAD. Do more research before you commit to this one.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica (Referred to commonly as “PMMM” or “Madoka Magica”) – DO NOT WATCH THIS UNLESS YOU’RE READY TO BE WRECKED. This anime is decidedly in the “deep end” of the anime pool and is for experienced swimmers only. Follows the story of several magical girls fighting entities called “witches.” I can’t explain much more with giving away some twists, but here are some key points: it’s a twist on the magical girl genre that is way more dramatic, harrowing, and is straight up torture porn at times, the girls have a deep fondness if not outright love for one-another, shit is real fuckin sad. Extremely popular when it came out, so there are three feature-length movies in addition to the anime.
Pop Team Epic – This anime is fucking nuts and honestly defies categorization. I’m putting it in wlw because the two main characters, Popuko and Pipimi, are fairly obviously madly in love with each other and express it in the most absurdly hilarious ways possible. This anime is decidedly a comedy, but it’s also a rapid-paced fever dream – this show is what I imagine being on speed is like. Foul-mouthed, raunchy, and absolutely ridiculous.
Action (will contain wlw because my gay ass wouldn’t watch it otherwise)
Kill la Kill – Another one of my faves. Follows a transfer student trying to take down the student council president of an oppressive, authoritarian school that has embedded its uniforms with special fibers that grant the wearers supernatural abilities. A great cultural commentary if you’re willing to read between the lines. A pretty canon wlw relationship between the main protagonist and her best friend along with an implied relationship between the antagonistic student council president and her long-time childhood friend who is also on the student council. Hilarious, ridiculously fast-paced. A warning that there is familial abuse (physical, psychological, and, unfortunately sexual) that is used to show how evil a character is, though the depictions are brief. Viewer discretion advised, etc.
Kakegurui (aka “Compulsive Gambler”) – This is the anime I’ve been live-blogging over the past few days. Could also be considered a psychological thriller. It’s definitely not necessarily a wlw or super duper action anime as it focuses more on the gambling, but it’s really hard to deny that the women are decidedly way more into each other than any of the boys, with very, very minor exceptions. Funny, absurd, raunchy, and fast-paced; there’s never a dull moment!
Akira – This is also considered a psychological thriller and is one of my faves. Considered a masterpiece and cornerstone of the cyberpunk genre. Contains themes about society, social hierarchy, dystopian futures, unethical science, body horror, and an impending apocalypse. A wild ride to say the least!
Psychological Horror/Thriller (I generally advise not to watch these unless you’re already into this type of stuff since they can sometimes be disturbing or unsettling)
Neon Genesis Evangelion – DO NOT WATCH UNTIL YOU’RE MORE EXPERIENCED. Another “deep end of the anime pool” show meant for experienced swimmers only. Another one of my all-time faves. There isn’t much wlw content in this (an implied wlw relationship/one-sided pining is revealed in The End of Evangelion, the feature-length film that follows the last episode of the anime), but it’s another anime classic. Deals with themes of child soldiers, loneliness, unresolved trauma, depression, anxiety, gender roles, human connection, and religious symbolism among other things. It’s going to be confusing as shit the first time you watch it. Go in with an open mind and maybe give it another watch after a break – more details will come to light.
Paranoia Agent – A great psychological thriller by the late, great Satoshi Kon. The city is gripped in fear as a rollerblading troublemaker carrying a golden bat, known only as “Little Slugger,” assaults various people. What’s the common thread between the victims? Watch and find out.
Perfect Blue – A feature-length film by Satoshi Kon and a masterpiece of the psychological thriller genre in anime. Deals with identity, dissociation, societal pressure, and obsession, among other things. One of my favorites.
Ghost in The Shell – A feature-length animated film (not the garbage ScarJo remake lmao) that is considered a classic of the cyberpunk genre. The film is one of my favorites, and an anime series exists, but I didn’t enjoy it, personally. Follow an android as she tries to take down a terrorist organization. Contains sexual content, gore, and body horror.
Paprika – Another feature-length film by Satoshi Kon. This was basically Inception before Inception was a thing. A psychological fever dream with dream jumping.
The Big O – A criminally underrated anime that is another one of my faves. A psychological noir thriller disguised as a mecha anime. Deals with themes of memory, amnesia, loss, rebirth, social hierarchy, society, and mysteries.
Death Note – I’ve actually never finished this despite it being a modern anime classic. Has received rave reviews over the years.
Tokyo Ghoul – I started watching this but never ended up finishing it. Another popular anime at the moment, and extremely bloody and gory.

so. yugioh vrains is over. the last episode has aired.and with that in mind, with three seasons of this show, i’ve still got a lot of feelings about this show. especially that last episode. so i guess this is sort of the final thoughts and feelings post about yugioh vrains. not the last post in general about yugioh vrains. just the big opinions post, i guess, because there’s a lot.
yugioh vrains was good
yugioh vrains was very good. i liked it a lot. and me liking it a lot is the only criteria here for whether i’ll say it’s good or bad. i liked it! so it’s good.
i’m also very thankful that vrains has broken a curse yugioh has been suffering for awhile now. we’re talking about the dub. and no, i don’t really care that much that the dub censored some bullets, i think it’s funny, but i don’t care otherwise. this is just about general dub quality. zexal’s dub was bad. written bad quite a bit of the time, and a lot of the voice acting was just, not good. arc v, i can’t speak for the writing, because i only have seen like ten episodes of it, which is to be fair more than most people on this website, but the voice acting in arc v is atrocious, it’s worse than zexal. i’ve seen 20 episodes of the vrains dub, and look, i know. i know arc v’s main villain sounded like iago from fucking aladdin, i know that dub yusaku is voiced by someone who did voicework in zexal. but in 20 episodes of vrains, there wasn’t a single voice i didn’t like. the voice acting in vrains is good. and the dub is written well! it’s actually funny! i think i actually laughed more with the vrains dub than the sub for those 20 episodes. you know how the zexal dub tried to be funny every episode but it was just obnoxious? vrains was actually funny. the jokes are actually good. it’s been awhile since yugioh’s been dubbed well, and it was refreshing. the only thing i don’t like about the dub is that it only airs in canada and it’s impossible to watch in like any way online. i’m not done watching the dub btw eventually i’ll be able to watch more and i will watch more and i’ll be back here in this tag. if nothing else, i’m hoping it joins the other yugiohs on hulu or something when the dub’s done in like, two years. and if there’s a vrains manga i’ll definitely read it but like. shrugs on that.
the show’s got big megaman battle network, code lyoko, and the world ends with you vibes. i’m not saying this to knock vrains or anything. i love vrains. but if you like any of those games/shows, and you haven’t given vrains a chance, even if you haven’t watched any other yugioh series, i highly recommend it. the card games in vrains were very secondary to the story itself, and i think that went a long ways here, it worked well.
so like, how was vrains, how did i feel about it
season one...season one was really good. in hindsight, season one had some good foreshadowing for season three. season one was probably my favorite season, though, but not by much. season one showed yusaku in school the most and i actually loved all the school scenes. revolver’s a really cool and interesting character, and while i’m glad he stopped being a villain after season one and went the sort of anti-hero route, revolver did make a really good villain. uncovering the mystery of the lost incident was fun. a lot of people guessed early on that revolver was both the person yusaku was trying to take down and the person he was trying to save, way before yusaku himself figured it out, but that wasn’t a bad thing at all. i’m pretty sure the show wanted the audience to figure it out before our protagonist, and the reward itself felt pretty rewarding. revolver has cool dragons, yusaku got a cool dragon, ai got insulted a lot, kusanagi was there, definitely a solid season.
season two was easily my least favorite season. bohman and blood shepherd kinda ruined it for me. thoguh, to be fair, blood shepherd didn’t do much. he gave us an excuse to get some takeru flashback, which we could’ve gotten through other means, and he sort of revealed judgement arrows and helped everyone be able to prepare for it, but like, anyone could do that. i hate blood shepherd a lot, but he’s easy for me to forget. i forgot him between episodes a lot, actually, and when he’d show up i’d have to be like, oh that asshole exists. bohman was worse because he was the main antagonist of season two. and he shouldn’t have been. bohman wasn’t a good villain imo! i feel like he wasn’t written super well. i can sort of make him work out in my head, but i don’t like him, and he kept just pulling ideas out that seemingly came from nowhere. he’d make these leaps that were hard for me to follow, and this was after lightning stopped messing with his memories. and since bohman was the main antagonist and because i really didn’t like him, it made it hard for me to enjoy season two. there were other good things in season two. takeru joined the scene in this season, and i love takeru a lot. i require apologies from everyone who didn’t trust my man takeru. lightning was a really good villain (lightning should’ve been the main antagonist imo), was very interesting, and i liked lightning a lot. and hell, haru was alright! i kinda wish they did more with haru. season two wasn’t bad by any means. we also saw the story of how kusanagi and yusaku met in season 2, and those were some of my favorite episodes of the season, along with the yusaku vs kusanagi duel. the story and message was good (though that doesn’t boost it up a ton given season 3 had the same messages) but honestly i just really don’t like bohman.
season 3 is very close to being my favorite season. this is the season of the protagonist having to face against their partner. it happens in like, any yugioh where the protagonist has a partner. vrains didn’t disappoint on that front. this season felt short! season two felt like it dragged on forever and season three felt short. it didn’t necessarily feel like it needed to be longer, when it ended, though. i just wish the show wasn’t over lmao. everyone got baited super hard like episode 1 when everyone thought queen would be the next antagonist after lightning + bohman and then she super wasn’t, which was kinda funny. most of hte time this season i was just yelling at ai to tell me the truth. i loved roboppy and ai this season. and im SO sad about what happened to them!! ai and roboppy were written really well, they made really good villains. i’ll definitely be making more posts about ai in the future. and also, that epilogue though!!! i didn’t get into it when i watched bc i was in a hurry, but!!! jin looks really happy, i love his haircut! and kusanagi is keeping the hot dog truck open so that yusaku still has a place to come home to! im gonna cry!!!! the knights of hanoi are all super good now and i love them. akira’s the ceo of sol!!! it’s what he deserves!!!!! and the whole takeru + kiku scene was really nice. everyone was screaming about that ship being canon now, which i guess it is? i didn’t read it as romantic, i read it as “kiku is a little scared about everything with vrains and takeru is helping her feel safe and secure, like, making sure she doesn’t fall off his hoverboard and shit”. i honestly read it more as takeru still being gay for yusaku while thinking about how cool yusaku is lmao. but i know yusaku + takeru will never be canon, i never thought it would be, and knowing yugioh, takeru + kiku im sure is supposed to be canon so like. it’s not a bad ship. i’m surprised how many people i see like that ship? but it’s just not for me i guess. im happy for yall who wanted this though. and that last scene!!!! we saw ai!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i’ll save thoughts on that another time i guess, including yusaku post that time skip.
i liked shima a lot this series. i honestly wish there was more of him lmao. i mostly wanted more yusaku + shima interaction, not in terms of shima finding out yusaku was playmaker, i just wanted the two of them to bond more. i wanted to see more of them being friends (read: shima forcing his friendship on yusaku and yusaku reluctantly goes along with it but actually likes it more as time goes on). and i wish we got to see takeru in the duel club at least once. takeru and yusaku both going to one meeting and yusaku sleeps through it and takeru is pumped and like taking notes and shit and shima is just like how can yusaku sleep through it this is the best!!!
aoi....i have mixed feelings on. i liked her a lot in season one, and i liked her a lot in half of season two. i really don’t like the blue maiden avatar (i did like blue girl!), and i preferred the trickstars over marincesses. i did enjoy her figuring out yusaku was playmaker though, that was a fun scene. i like aoi a lot still, love that girl, but after a point i stopped liking what they were doing with her.
they did ghost gal dirty. ghost gal was GREAT in season one. i loved her. and then they gave her a brother, her brother was shit, and everything about ghost gal got thrown out the window so that her character could revolve only around her shit brother. i feel so bad for her. i mean, i kinda get it? this whole thing’s about bonds, a lot of the bonds focused on were familial bonds (either in the blood family or found family sense, there was both). but ghost gal was already developing a sort of family-ish bond with akira and aoi by that point. i never felt like she needed anything else. she still could’ve done cool things in seasons two and three without having a shitstain forced into her life.
im madly in love with kusanagi and if anyone says a single bad thing about him i will stomp you to death with my hooves
i’m running out of people to talk about here i can’t avoid it anymore i’ll talk about blood shepherd now. i hate him. i hate him. he’s an idiot. i’ve yelled about this before and i’ll do it again. some shit happened to him because of malfunctioning ai or whatever. cool. great. now he has a grudge against all ai. that makes no sense. if im playing basketball and i get hit in the head by a basketball (by accident) am i gonna blame the basketball? no, i’ll either blame the person who threw it or myself for not noticing it and letting myself get hit. if i sprain my wrist playing volleyball am i gonna get mad at the volleyball? no, i’m mad at myself for messing up and playing in a way that caused that injury. if i get in a car accident because my car brake stops working, am i going to blame the car itself? maybe a little, but not as much as either the manufacturer or, if i recently had work done on the brake, the mechanic i visited. see, these things are all inanimate objects with no malicious intent or free will. since vrains is one of those shows, it may sound cruel comparing an AI to a car or a basketball. but the ignis (all generations, we’ll include pandor and bohman and haru in here for simplicitiy’s sake) are a special case. the ignis specifically stand out because they were made with free will. other artificial intelligence does not have that. it cannot have malicious intent. artificial intelligence cannot do anything it is not programmed to be able to do. it cannot hurt or kill someone, unless it is either programmed to have that function, or you’re looking at an ignis. and blood shepherd KNOWS THIS, because he became a hacker, and even REPROGRAMMED AN AI THAT WASNT SUPPOSED TO LIE TO LIE FOR HIM. along the way, he would’ve had to learn that somewhere. an ai malfunctioned and caused blood shepherd and his mom to get in a car accident. the ai itself isn’t to blame for that! that’s the fault of whoever made it!! or if the car was hacked to cause that problem, it’s the car manufacturer’s fault! you blame those people!!! and if blood shepherd went after those groups it’d be fine! instead he goes after artificial intelligences because he’s the biggest fucking idiot the world has ever seen. this does not make sense, even in the vrains universe, because again, the ignis are the only ai with free will and who can make their own decisions. any other ai cannot do something like this on purpose. the solution is to make ai better, not get rid of them. the solution is to improve security. not get rid of ai. at this point ai is so ingrained in society that you’re not gonna accomplish that anyway. oh, and i hate blood shepherd for what he did to ghost gal’s character. other than that, he was cool for two episodes before we learned his bullshit backstory, and he hasn’t done a single thing i liked since except he died twice, and i liked those parts. i fucking HATE blood shepherd. easily one of the worst yugioh characters ever. i could rant on about bohman, too, but im tired.
i don’t have bad things to say about a lot of characters. yusaku, kusanagi, jin, ai, roboppy, revolver, lightning, aqua, akira, earth, go onizuka, windy, i don’t really have bad things to say about them now that the series is over. i liked them a lot!!! they were really good.
i guess the bottom line of this is, i wish yugioh treated its girls and its “joke characters” or “comic relief characters” better. and i wish bohman and blood shepherd didn’t exist, or were executed better. other than that, very solid.
if you were curious about my preferred ships here, yusaku + takeru is the best ship this show has to offer and it’s a shame more people don’t like it, and miyu + aoi is really good. anything else is like, okay, but i don’t love it. the show’s most popular ships are fine but not for me. yusaku + ryoken is okay but doesn’t really work in universe for me, i don’t love it but it’s fine, and it’s aight in a like real au setting. i don’t think there’s any ships i don’t really like, not like, other than the obvious. but these two are the best.
all in all, vrains was really good. this show helped me through some real bad times, and will continue to do so as bad times continue. i love it lots, it holds a special place in my heart, and im glad i was able to watch it. im excited for whatever yugioh has to offer next, especially following this, because vrains is definitely one of my favorite yugioh series over all. it was a lot of fun and made me suffer and cry a lot and it was just...a good time. please watch it if you haven’t. thanks for going on this journey with me. i’ll probably end up talking more about bigger characters like yusaku and ryoken and takeru and kusanagi and ai more in different posts. ive talked enough here already

tag game! 15 questions 15 mututals
i was tagged in the wonderful @theonewherelaurynhasablog tysm and HERE WE GO
1. are you named after anyone?
uhh nah my parents wanted my name to be “feminine but strong” and to be like unique but not fucking bizarre, so here we are
that being said, they are big jimmy buffet fans and his daughter’s name is Savannah Jane so like....... suspicious
2. when was the last time you cried?
the last time i teared up was last night when i was watching the good doctor (shawn was finishing reading a story to a little boy with terminal cancer bc the boy looked like his brother who died when he was young... and he never finished reading this book that shawn had gifted him.... twas really fucking sad) but i like didn’t Actually Cry so idk if that counts
the last time i think i full on cried was a couple weeks ago after like a fight w my mom or smth and i was pissed and frustrated but its like whatever we’re cool

5. what’s the first thing you notice about people?
uhh face hair clothes i guess???? maybe their attitude towards me if applicable
6. what’s your eye colour?
oh! they’re brown/green/hazel
technically i think i have heterochromia- which is when there’s like a starburst of different color within the main color of the iris (look it up, there are some beautiful pics on google images, I have the one w two different colors in both eyes, not when your eyes are different colors)- so my eyes are greenish grey on the outside with a golden brown starburst on the inside!
the tones are fairly similar and so you can’t really tell unless you’re looking close up so really my eyes just look more/less brown or green depending on the light or surrounding colors
lmao sorry for going off i just really like my eyes......

uhhhh i have a good memory (its not like photographic or anything though) so like i remember songs and lyrics really well and was really strong at getting memorized for my lines (and sometimes other peoples’ lines) when i do theatre
i think I’m fairly musically talented although i don’t have a lot of training but i think i have a good ear for where music/notes/harmonies fit in a piece of music, especially one i’ve heard before or know well
I’ve been acting for like three or four years now, so i don’t know if i would call it a Talent necessarily more of training and practice lmao
uhhhh im a fast reader, i’m a decent chef for my age and experience, uhhh yeah
9. where were you born?
north carolina, usa which is like..... yikes.... but in like a liberal/democrat hot spot in nc so like.... slightly less yikes?

12. what sports do you play/have you played?
uh gross no
i did do a martial art for like 6 years in middle/early high school but it was more focused on practical self defense maneuvers as opposed to drills or competitions, and i did a lot of theatre in high school which tends to include more physical exertion than people realize
13. how tall are you?
like 5′6 or 5′7 i think. tallish but not a giant
14. favorite subject in school?

ok most of my friends hate south park and reddit is a goddamn landmine of either really really good or really really terrible content (which...........is kind of tumblr too but it’s easier to talk with people here bar PMs), so i made a sideblog for it.
pls talk with me about SP. i found out hulu had all the episodes last month and i’ve been lost ever since. i’m rewatching the entire dang series.
things on my mind right now:
- i rewatched Conjoined Fetus Lady yesterday and “did it have clothes on?” /  “dude, where the hell is she gonna get fetus clothes?” had me laughing so hard i was crying
- /strums guitar ♪ where the fuck is Kenny these days ♪ (predictably he’s my favorite character but after him it’s Craig > Kyle > Tweek > Wendy, i love every single one of the kid characters honestly)
- on average my favorite episodes tend to be the ones where the kids actually act like kids and do kid things. the lord of the rings one, black friday, good times with weapons, the superhero eps, et cetera. “CAR!!” / “GET OUT OF THE DAMN STREET” in tfbw fuckin slays me every time.
- this is one of those special fandoms where i ship just about anything. any and all variations of stan/kyle/kenny ot3 are The Main Ones (shoutout to k2 esp.) but i don’t have any notps and i will consider anything at least once tbh. TALK TO ME ABOUT YOUR RAREPAIRS, I WILL LISTEN INTENTLY.
- has anyone else watched the Japanese dub because I found it on Nico Nico Douga and Cartman using “oira” is phenomenal. also, Kappei Yamaguchi voicing Kyle is one thing I never thought I would enjoy so much

Thoughts on the “Sailor Moon Crystal” English dub. Season two episode twelve.
this is the end
until they release the season three dub
hell they still haven’t released the Sailor Moon S dub to Hulu, apparently Viz is weird when it comes to how they handle their dubs. we have the cast for S, we know who the Outers will be played by but assuming they dubbed that season already they are withholding it at the moment. I know R is being released soon on blu-ray so once that’s out they’ll probably release S, but I don’t know when season three of Crystal will get its release. and after doing some research the SDC English dub is getting a similar treatment, people have said that the three episodes they dubbed back in 2014 were a test dub while others say they dubbed everything but are not going to release it to the public until perhaps after PH and BT are rereleased onto blu-ray (at the very least we know the blu-ray is coming). so that’s gonna be weird when I get to my Jojo viewing and I blame Viz for it.
Death Phantom looks like the Stone Mask from PB
yeah Endymion’s cape looks white again, sigh
SHINY MAKEUP
habataku yo hoshizora no kanata e
Tsumi ga mawaru sekai de mo mirai o shinjirareru
yeah I’ll miss this song
SHE RISES
fairy tale wake up smooch
I actually like Neo Queen Serenity’s silver hair since that is in line with the manga
also NQS that ring does not look like the ring Mamoru gave you in Stars so I’m gonna assume on their like 500th wedding anniversary he gave her a new one to match her silver and white aesthetic because he respects her commitment to this color palette
once again I think Toei pooled their animation budget towards the later episodes because this one looks good
also I never understood why NQS lost most of her powers
it just felt like a weird thing to have happen
luckily in this version Chibi-Moon is actually powerful, the gag of Pink Sugar Heart Attack being so weak in the 90s anime was funny but at the same time I thought it would have been nice to give her maybe a new attack that gets something done
also my video keeps buffering and its annoying
when you ignore the vocal distortion the way Death Phantom talks does a good job in showcasing why one of Steve Kramer’s biggest roles is Darkonda from Power Rangers, I just wish WIseman’s voice didn’t sound so kindly even though again I know that was done on purpose for a reason
“I am the pretty guardian trainee!” and today is her first day so try to be understanding
 HHHHHUUUUUURRRRRGGGHHHHH
since nerds never shut up about there being no sound in space I guess an explosion wouldn’t give off sound either
but who gives a shit? I mean do you want a new special edition of ANH where the Death Star explodes but makes no sound? I didn’t think so
the senshi are so happy and proud of Sailor Moon, I love it
and they’re being knighted essentially, I always liked this
NQS is bestowing new power upon....herself
time travel is bullshit
this was always my favorite Sailor Moon broach
or is it brooch? I’ve heard both
Chibi-Usa really did grow a lot in this arc, and unlike the 90s anime its not reset so we can get more of her being a little shit
honestly I don’t blame Usagi for wanting to see NQS, I’d wanna see how I’m gonna look when I’m older too
I also see this as a good example of how NQS deep down is still Usagi because she’s the one who comes running to see her
Sailor Moon is like “damn I’m gonna be a total MILF”
and the Inners look the same
back to the past to go back to the future to go back to the past
“I wish I could stay longer” BOY DO I HAVE GOOD NEWS FOR YOU
“I’M NOT CRYING YOU’RE CRYING I CAN SEE THE TEARS ON YOUR FACE”
that was actual dialogue, they actually had her say “I’m not crying, you’re crying”
this dub is great
I want a Tuxedo Mask plush
“you’re my knight in shining armor even though you wear a mask and cape”
like this is a nice scene, but seriously two second after it ends she comes tumbling back
yes Mamoru you will see her again, you have no idea how soon that will actually be
oh hai Chibs!
they kept the doodle of NQS on her letter (I’d like to think she puts that on all her stationary)
and I love her giving the little peace sign
a bientot
so that was the dub for Sailor Moon Crystal and despite some voices for minor characters I’m happy with it. I still feel very special over the fact that I met Robbie Daymond and Johnny Yong Bosch this year and having experienced their work in the dub it makes me happier about it. I remember for the longest time I dreamed of Sailor Moon getting a remake closer to the manga and being dubbed over again and both felt like total pipe dreams because for years Toei just sat on this property. even if Crystal isn’t everything I wanted, I’m happy it exists. I’m happy its quality is rising with each season and even though we have to wait until 2018 for the Dream Arc just the fact that we’re getting that season and Stars feels great. now is such a great time to be a Sailor Moon fan. I remember what it was like before the 20th anniversary celebration, at Anime Boston you were lucky to find merchandise that wasn’t bootleg or fanmade. now there’s a surplus of stuff, I see so many wonderful cosplayers every year, and I also see new fans. I feel so happy seeing kids and teenagers get into it because it means this is fresh for them, this is them experiencing it for the first time and they won’t be subjected to the bad slang, mischaracterization, and homophobia from the old dub. I just find it so heartwarming to know the series is thriving because I love it so much and even if there’s things in it that are weird or don’t make sense, I will always go back to it. its that special.
so now we wait for season three and venture off to Victorian era London where a legend began, tune in next time for “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure”
