random thoughts dump of the week bc none of this deserves its own post

coming down from a smol john kearns kick and really enjoyed it, guy has a ridiculously sweet presence and i really like his voice. it also brings me great joy his previous career was working in museums and as a tour guide. i would like that life, i think (i worked at universal orlando for a little bit in 2013 and was always super jealous of the vip tour guides lol). he mentioned on one of his rhlstps that despite winning arguably the biggest (british) comedy awards there are, he never released a standup special or dvd, and he kinda wants to keep it that way so he has something special between him and his live audience — and that really made me sad face. like, my guy, what about those of us who can't see you bc won't leave that damn island. (also ed gamble's new tour having no nyc date felt personal...) in another episode, he talked a little about, in great part due to social media, people want comedians they can know everything about, get the whole look of; comedians who are the same people onstage as off. he's not like that and doesn't really like the idea of that. i think there's a lot to say about that subject but i'll just leave it for now...

speaking of rhlstp and ed, one thing that occurred to me and i thought was quite funny upon listening to his recent episode is that both richard and ed have that self-aware side of them that admits to bitterness, professional jealousy, annoyance with critics/haters, believing they're not as successful as they deserve to be, etc. while it can come off whiney here and there, it's not too obnoxious or anything, i just found it amusing they had this (often concealed or private) quality in common. i might even put jenny eclair in that camp (others too but that's a discourse i don't really wanna start lmao)

speaking of back in the day — and i do mean back, like 15+ years ago — and my main panel show obsession was buzzcocks, there were a few non-comedians who would come on panel shows who were properly fucking funny, like martin freeman and josh groban, and i'd always pray they'd eventually come on again. and i think at the time the person at the top of my list was professor green. how random is that TT he was just always up for laugh and just so likable. i also LOVED the song "just good to be green" with lily allen in like 2010 lmaooo this really ages me :)

been really enjoying some old angus deayton-hosted stuff, like old hignfy and wilty. i got into panel shows after he'd stepped out of the spotlight, but i remember being crushed when i found out about his scandal. i also remember stephen fry standing up for him and chastising paul & ian publicly after That Episode of hignfy — which absolutely blew my mind, even though stephen has always said what he thinks — and i agreed with him and am not sure even today if i fully forgave paul & ian for how they treated angus. ik he's still here and there, but i wonder if we'll ever see him in any properly notable capacity again

i've been making a lot of typos in my gifs lately for literally no reason other than not proofreading my rushing and it's embarrazzing i'm gonna do better

speaking of gifs i have NOTHING!!! in my drafts folder. nothing. no content. nothing is made. nothing in the queue. [sigh] sounds like tonight we be bustin it out huh. idk about other gifmakers (i actually don't follow any other panel show blogs, but this isn't necessarily a panel show blog thing, just a regular original content thing) but i don't usually make gifs throughout the week — instead, like, marathon gif like two times a week and build up 10–20 drafts to post throughout the week. if you gif every single day or to keep up with all of the new content, it starts to become a chore, which is never fun :(

SUCCESSION ENDING SPOILERS:

okay im glad shiv ended up breaking the cycle (for roman and kendall) but it's heartbreaking how she got mom'd. like.....i know she made tom into the man she wanted him to be so that's technically a W but she's been relegated into being a wife. she's pregnant!!! standing behind a man!!!! but let's be real like shiv was never going to get it lmao and it KILLS me because if she had been a man it would've been her. like 100%. shiv overcompensates and talks too much and it's all stems from her never being taken seriously as a woman. like had she had the privilege of being a man in a male dominated world it would've been her!!!!!! she's logan's favorite. mattson wouldn't have wanted to fuck her (who knows). all three of the roy siblings self sabotage in different ways, but the fact that shiv's comes from her insecurities is so heartbreaking. also i watched the ending commentary and one of the directors (i think) talked about how in the end none of them would ultimately be logan's successor because they'd never be able handle it. it was never going to be them. succession is a tragedy because when something happy and lighthearted happens you know something awful is going to follow. AND GOD. the scene where they swim and everything's happy that's when I KNEW it was going to end terribly. the roy siblings all united. it never would've gone well. it was never going to end well.

and kendall KENDALL. the poison drips. yes shiv was right kendall would have never been able to handle but if u think about the fact that he's been groomed into this position to continue the cycle of abuse (by logan who told him at SEVEN he was going to take over) he has nothing now! there's literally nothing for him anymore. this is what his life had been culminating towards and to have it all taken away. the part in the episode where shiv refuses to vote and kendall is literally like 'i might die' and then him denying point blank that he killed a man (DELUSIONAL). but also kendall recanting that confession a confession that bonded the siblings together in the last season. brought them together in a moment of genuine comfort and bonding. gone. gone. gone!!!!!

You stepped out of the limo, holding up your dress as you walked. You did NOT want to be at the Todoroki family’s ball- they were problematic as HELL. But you had a duty to fulfill as princess of the L/n kingdom- you HAD to marry a prince to prevent war from breaking out. If you just had an alliance with any of the kingdoms, they wouldn’t go to war with each other for risk of losing the alliance of your kingdom- which was an ally to all.

You walked behind your mother and father, as you all were introduced.

“The L/n family. Queen (name), King (name), and Princess Y/n.”

You walked in and broke away from your parents as they went to talk with other kings and queens. You leaned against one of the back walls, wishing you could blend in with it. 

You had always hated balls- too loud and crowded, too many princes checking you out. You preferred scanning the room, figuring out which people were tolerable and which people to avoid at all costs, as opposed to interacting with people. You were lost in thought but were torn away by a presence beside you.

You sighed and looked up. A blonde, spiky haired boy with fiery red eyes was beside you, mocking your crossed-arms closed off position.

“Bakugou. To what do I owe the pleasure.” you sighed.

He laughed. “Oh, Y/n, you haven't changed a bit since we were kids. Well, I mean, you got hot but that’s all.” he looked away from you. 

Was he... BLUSHING?? No.. No way. 

You and Bakugou had met many times when you were kids- you hated each other but hung out anyway back then- you both were equally as mean and closed off so it only made sense that all the other children from other kingdoms left you both out.

‘Leave her alone, Katsuki.” an annoyed voice said.

You looked to see a tall boy with mismatched eyes and two-toned hair standing in front of you. Your eyes widened.

Prince Shoto??

Bakugou scoffed, and you quickly curtseyed in greeting. You had never talked to him before, due to your mean nature as a child, but how did Bakugou know him??

“I don’t think I was bothering her, half n’ half.”

He ignored Bakugou and held a gloved hand out to you.

“I’m Shoto. May I have this dance.”

“Sure..?” you said, confused. 

You took his hand and he led you out to the middle of the floor.

“Sorry for the sudden offer, I just think you’re uh.. pretty. Yeah.”

“T-Thank you.” you said, feeling a slow blush creep across your cheeks.

He was a GREAT dancer, as expected of the youngest prince in the Todoroki family. He was their greatest achievement. Smartest, strongest, most good looking in the family. 

While dancing, you two absolutely hit it off. You had a lot in common actually, and he was really sweet.

After the song ended, you two walked off the dance floor, laughing and joking like old friends. You walked back to Bakugou, who looked less than thrilled to see you had hit it off with Todoroki. 

“Y/n. Dance.” Bakugou said, the moment you walked back to him. You thought you saw anger flash on Todoroki’s face for a moment, but you brushed it off as your imagination.

“Uh- okay?”

He led you out to the dance floor and slipped and arm around your waist, causing you to blush profusely.

He actually was very gentle while you two danced- way different than his normal roughhousing, which you had experienced plenty of as a child. 

“You’re a good dancer.”

"I’m a prince, Y/n. We all have to be good dancers.”

“Yeah, true.”

You found yourself lost in his red eyes, and noticed he smelled slightly sweet, like caramel.

“Y/n?” he said softly.

“Y-Yeah?”

“See something you like?” he said, that cocky smirk growing on his face.

“No. I don’t like you one bit.” you laughed. 

“Okay, sure.” he laughed.

The song ended and you two turned to walk back to where you were originally standing. When you got back, you found Todoroki had taken your spot. 

“Y/n. I must ask you something.” he said

“No. Shut up half n’ half. I told you to stay away from her. She doesn’t need you or your shitty family.” Bakugou said, annoyed.

“Huh? What do you mean you told him to stay away from me?”

“Isn’t it obvious, Y/n? We’re both into you!”

“She doesn’t belong to you, Katsuki. Y/n, please. For our kingdoms- ever since I saw you for the first time when we were kids, I liked you. I was just scared to talk to you because Katsuki here was hovering over your shoulder at all times.”

You looked between both boys, shocked. You were about to say something, when the feedback of a microphone rang out through the ballroom, causing everyone to jump and cover their ears.

“Thank you all so much for coming- this concludes the Todoroki Kingdom ball.” King Enji said into the microphone.

“I-I have to get back to my parents,” you said, backing away. “I’ll get back to you guys on this- uh.. later.”

You curtseyed for them, picked up your dress, and BOLTED, meeting your parents, who were looking for you. 

Bakugou and Todoroki looked at each other, scowled, and went their separate ways. 

The whole way back to your kingdom, all you could think about was the two boys- Bakugou’s pretty red eyes, protectiveness, humor, and the way he always smelled sweet- and Todoroki, who had the kindest mismatched eyes, was sweet and funny, who had liked you since you were children. No, they had BOTH liked you since you were children- so who the FUCK were you going to choose??

Why you should watch Spartacus

- Beautiful actors (I know that sounds vain as fuck and not really convincing and why should I put it in the first point, BUT it��s just, I’m really bi and it’s like a fucking dream and if you like to watch beautiful people for hours........ you know what to do)

- Good dialogues (so I watched it with the french version so I don’t know about the vo but the vf is good lmao)

- Gory scenes but with kinda bad special effects (sometimes they’re good and disgusting so be careful, there is some gross stuff here)

- FIGHTS BIG FIGHTS FIGHTS EVERYWHERE DRAMATIC FIGHTS FIGHTS TO THE DEATH

- Ancient Rome. That’s it. If you’re a big fan of this historical period but you still haven’t watched Spartacus, I dont understand what the fuck you are doing. It’s not always historically accurate (or even accurate in general) but still, it’s very interesting and well done (at least in my opinion)

- Aesthetically very pleasing

- The sex scenes (TW rape : a lot of the sex scenes are rapes since, you know, slavery is a thing and there are some really bad people in this, so..... not all sex scenes are great. The show can be triggering for that)

- Almost all characters are problematic as fuck lmaooo so no time for discourse, like who you want, hate who you want and don’t give shit to other people because, spoiler : your fave is problematic too (except Pietros. Pietros is an angel). Also, everyone hates Ashur. We don’t talk about him.

- Not only the actors are beautiful but they’re also FUCKING GOOD AT THEIR JOB

- Lucy Lawless

- THE RICH ARE SCHEMING (and it’s kinda fascinating)

- The plot is great, full of twists and surprising (heartbreaking) events

- LGBT CHARACTERS !!!!!!!!!! LOTS OF THEM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (also spoiler : the show’s ending is a big win for the gays lmao) Bi/lesbian patrician women, gay gladiators (strolling stereotypes of biG sTrONg MAnLy MeN ?????? gay ???????? it’s more likely than you think), etc etc IT’S GREAT REPRESENTATION TOO

- THE HAIR AND THE DRESSES AND THE FUCKING EVERYTHING OF PATRICIAN WOMEN they could be trying to kill me and I would be like oh yeah pls step on me with your royal sandals (the hair and clothes work is gorgeous)

- Caesar is here and he’s hot ! And Marcus Crassus too

- It’s not a funny show but some parts were really funny to me ???? Also Spartacus is a sassy little shit I love him

- C h a r a c t e r  d e v e l o p m e n t (for the better or the worse)

- It has 4 seasons (season 0 is a flashback so be careful to start with season 1) so it’s long enough to keep you busy for a moment but not too long that it seems fucking unfinishable (I don’t know, it depends on people but this is just good for me)

- Me watching Spartacus : little gladaitor panties hehehe nippples hehe big muslces

- The first episode is the most boring. Just saying. Like, it seems important because if I wasn’t really interested in the Ancient Rome setting, I would have give up on watching it because the first episode is so fucking b o r i n g (when I rewatch the show, I skip it lmao). So. Just don’t give up during the first episode. Please.

- Diverse female characters trying to be strong (and having different types of strength), or even surviving in a world dominated by men. Ancient Rome wasn’t good for a lot of people and especially women.

- The show is a lot more deep than you think : it’s a lot more than just nude people and sex and fights (I don’t sound convincing because I really like this part of the show too BUT :), I wouldn’t have watched it if it didn’t have a fucking good plot, incredible actors and a lot of interesting topics addressed like love, solidarity, brotherhood, commitment to a great cause - here liberty -, friendship and toxic relationships, death and killing, humanity, betrayal, violence, and all of that in a society based on slavery and the violent dominance of one class over another.
