I just watched episode 11 of I Hear The Sunspot and just. Oh my heart.

Maya has been determined to hate Taichi because she was jealous of his closeness to Kohei, just for him to be the one to tell her something she needed to hear and deserved to hear and isn't that just the worst? She spent over a year thinking Kohei was the only person to get her, just for it to be Taichi. Her breaking down in tears and running off hurt my heart.

And that's not even getting into how absolutely devastated I am for both Kohei and Taichi for losing each other.

Taichi really came into both Kohei and Maya's lives and flipped them upside down. Obviously more so Kohei's because they do become a couple at some point, but he affected Maya as well and I'm pretty sure that's why she was acting out so much.

Just what an awesome show. Truly. Taichi is def going to end up one of my favorite characters of all time because he's come in twice now and said things to both the hard of hearing characters that I wish someone had said to me back when I was 19. Just what a character. What a show.

"Happy Holidays, Ryuji!" Harmony greets him with a wide smile. She carries not one, but two large presents. Both are wrapped in red paper but one is slightly smaller and more rectangular while the other is larger.

"I got something for you and your mother. I hope they fit. They should but please let me know if they don't. I also wanted to invite you both to my place. My parents and I are having dinner and we would like you to come. It's okay if you have plans, though. I wanted to let you know that you and your mother are welcome!"

The smaller present is for Ryuji which are a pair of shoes that are ideal for running and track. The larger present, which is for his mother, holds a black pea coat that does not look cheap. There is also a blue pashmina scarf with the coat. Ryuji's present also has a gift card for his favorite ramen place.

"Harmony, hey!" He returns her smile with one of his one, eyes immediately going to the presents clutched in her arms. Given that it was around Christmas and all, it wasn't hard to guess what the presents for - and the effort was a genuinely kind one on Harmony's part. He was especially eager to know what was in them!

He gently took the smaller present from her first, opening it carefully as he holds up the shoes joyously, hoisting them into the air for several seconds before clutching them to his chest, hugging them with an eager sort of excitement. "These shoes are amazing, Har!" He moves to wrap an arm around her in a half-hug, still clutching the shoes in his arms. Turning his attention back to the gift, he grins as he holds up the gift card, eagerly waving it back and forth. "This is great! I'll be sure to treat you with this!"

Having focused on his own gifts, he turned his attention to the much larger one, hands hovering above it, before pausing, recalling that one of the gifts had been for his Ma. Though he was excited to open it here and now, it would have felt right for her to be here to open it herself! Still, the gesture meant a great deal!

"You got something for her, too?" At this, his eyes seem to light up, both conveying surprise as well as unspeakable gratitude - so often had he wanted to treat his Ma but very rarely did he actually have a chance to do so. Hearing and seeing the few occasions that others actually helped her too truly warmed his heart. Blinking away tears from the corner of his eyes, he nods his head as he gives his ecstatic response. "Thanks, I promise I'll make sure that she gets her gift! As for dinner, we don't typically do anything on Christmas - usually just order in some food, but a change of pace this year might actually be pretty fun! I'll text her right now!" Within minutes he had done just that, his Ma's response coming equally quickly - and luckily - agreeably to the idea. "Looks like she's on board too, Har! We'll see you guys tonight for dinner!"

I think one of the kindest things you can do for people with various mental health struggles is just... let people back into your life after they've been absent for a while.

Making friends as an adult is so fucking hard already and isolating yourself from other people is a very common symptom of depression, anxiety, burnout, ocd, trauma, grief, etc. Which means that someone will do the hard work of recovery/healing and resurface back into a world where their previous friends have written them off because they stopped showing up.

So if you know someone where you're like "yeah we could have been better friends but they fell off the map a bit" and that person suddenly reaches out, or starts showing up to events even though you kind of forgot they were still in the group chat... well they may have been Going Through It and you don't actually have to punish them for their absence you can just be glad that they're back.

I have seen men and boys digging through the rubble with just their bare hands, I have seen them comforting strangers, playing with children, rocking them, hushing them, even if the face of such imminent danger. I have seen them cry, seen them grieve, seen them break down into each other's arms, seen them be selfless, beyond selfless, becoming something I don't have a word for.

I have seen the men who are doctors refuse to leave their patients, even when they have no medicine or supplies to give them, even when they're threatened with bombings. I have seen fathers who have lost all their children pick orphans up into their arms and proclaim them their child so they are not alone. I have seen men and boys digging pets out of the rubble.

the men are innocent too. the men and boys are being hurt and killed too. the men and boys are grieving too. the men and boys are scared too. the men and boys are fighting to save their people too. the men and boys deserve to be fought for too.
