Very nice to meet you gift-giver! Thank you for joining in this challenge; I'm very excited to get to chat with you over the next few weeks.

One of the things I love about DCMK is that everyone's so damn competent with the possible exception of Yamamura-keibu from Gunma. I have such a fondness for capable and competent characters, and that's DetCo's whole shtick, basically, so my competency kink is usually very well fed.

Kaito/KID is my favourite character, and he has a whole raft of ridiculously OP skills that I love to see played with. Magician, acrobat, infiltration expert, actor, marksman, master of disguise, the list goes on. IMO, his more recent heists in canon have not given him as much opportunity to show off as they used to - as the stakes up and the challenges that Jirokichi sets get increasingly ridiculous, it inevitably limits KID's ability to show off what a badass he is - so I am finding that I miss the thrill of earlier heists like the Miraculous Midair Walk or KID's Teleportation Magic (I do have great hopes for next year's movie though - fingers crossed!). Hence my request for some badass Kaito.

I also find that badass characters are the most thrilling when they are met with equal opposition: Kaito needs to be a badass because Shinichi/Conan is ALSO a badass, so Kaito wouldn't stand a chance if he couldn't keep up. Mostly, I just like that all of these characters are forces to be reckoned with, so I'm always happy when they get a chance to prove it. :)

It's interesting to know that Shinichi would have been turned into toast if Akako's servant hadn't stopped her. This reminded me a bit of Zhongli, a character from Genshin Impact, now I can't stop imagining Akako throwing a meteorite at Shinichi.

Hiya! Your Secret Santa again!!

Sorry about that first question, I didn’t mean for it to be such a loaded question, but I’m quite glad that I did. Believe it or not, I’ve never read any of those actually, though I’ve certainly heard of “A Study in Scarlet” and I am quite interested in Shadow Chase (still meaning to start that, btw, I just keep getting distracted JDHKSLFSDF). So no worries about recommending me any of those, because I probably wouldn’t have read any of them without it!

 Truth be told, I do shy a bit from Kaishin stories because a majority seem to mischaracterize certain characters, especially when concerning Kaito. But since starting Scion (which is really good, so far! I’m only less than a quarter through, but I’m enjoying it a lot!) I see your handle of the characters and so I have higher hopes for the fics.

 That all aside, I’ve begun working on your gift, and as I was brainstorming I began to wonder: What are your thoughts on Hakuba? Which, that question then lead me to wonder what your favorite KID heist might be? I’m approaching “KID and the Four Masterpieces” in my current watch-through, so he’s a bit on my mind at the moment. So yeah, questions for thought! I hope you’re having a lovely day! Take care ^^

Oh no, it was a great question! I just had to take a couple of days to gather my links thoughts enough to answer! ^_^; I certainly agree with you that character behaviour in fics can be rather hit or miss, which is tricky when the characters you love might not do the things you love about them. I'm very glad you are liking Scion so far, though! Trying to keep the characters in character is one of my main priorities as a fanfic writer, so I hope that they feel true to you.

I like Hakuba! His dynamic with Kaito has so much potential (not-quite enemies, but not-not friends either is such a cool dichotomy!), and I love how different it is from Kaito's dynamic with Conan/Shinichi. The constant game of 'I know you know that I know' and plausible deniability that they're constantly playing makes for a fascinating potential plot complication. I don't ship them personally, but I can see why people do for sure. I feel like Hakuba gets done a little dirty by canon (and fandom, sometimes), but he's still a good guy.

My favourite KID heist is SUCH a hard question to answer - there are so many good ones! How do you choose just one? (Kaito is my favourite, have I mentioned? I love him to a degree that is ridiculous).The more recent heists have been disappointing to me, personally, because he feels more like a plot device than an opponent, but any case that allows him to be the clever flash bastard he is is a win in my book. Do you have a favourite heist?

Hmm, if I had to pick one favourite, it would probably be the Miraculous Midair Walk. KID just has so much goddamn STYLE in that one, and I love watching Conan work his way through eliminating the impossible to come to the solution. Also, it's not a heist, but I will always have a fondness for the Magic Lovers Murder Case. KID going undercover to solve mysteries! Conan and KID working together! Dramatic showdowns after all the murder stuff is dealt with! AMAZING.

Sometimes, one just has to channel the Tenth Doctor, you know how it is. I'm delighted to have given you a little shot of nostalgia! Have a lovely day, Santa! Take care of yourself as well!

Jokid in the brain again, I remember jokid and proceed to think bout it in the next hour. I wanna write so much for em but all the ideas are a mess in the brain that I gotta wait until one or two collides and explode into something I can write. Now I have a new idea floating around and that's Akiren on a date with Kaito and later discovering that Oh, Kaito is SCARED of fishes. And is now making it his mission to keep all the fishes away from Kaito, the supposed aquarium date in the future has been immediately changed. Time for a zoo date.

It’s so fucked bc like. Rui never really had friends before especially not any that are as important to him as the rest of wxs so he’s so incredibly unused to basic very human emotions like loving your friends that whenever he indulges these feelings & works towards keeping wxs together he’s like I’m so selfish. As if the rest of wxs doesn’t want to stay together too. Him saying he was greedy for staying w wxs in curtain call (why don’t I want to follow Facts And Logic and pursue my goals why do I feel sad abt leaving my friends) … him saying he’s selfish for getting wxs to go freelance (I believe the implication is that he feels like he’s getting in the way of emu’s dreams as if emu didn’t choose to join them & is very happy to be there) his intense fear of abandonment/being “too much” for his friends -> guilt complex over loving his friends. (Horse on a beach dot jpeg) Man…. I don’t think he comprehends how much wxs values him (& their friendship as a group). Guy who would do anything for his friends shocked to discover they would do anything for him in return.
