Blue Lock Chapter 245/NEL team rambling
foreword: I wrote this over Christmas, when suffering with a headcold. It's not that coherent, but I spent an amount of time on it? So have it as is... whatever it is.
Tumblr media
God, they're doing Bachira Barcha so dirty.
If I'm interpreting this right, it sounds like Lavinho entered the game, but not Loki. Oof. Speaks volumes.
It took one of the most renowned footballers in the world to hold off Shidou and company so Bachira and Otoya could score.
It rankles how little development the Barcha boys are getting, compared to Manshine, Ubers or PXG. I know one team had to be the "first boss" of the NEL, but it's Bachira's team.
Bachira. Who's always shown the ability to thrive when the chips are down. Who's one of the most important characters, prior to the NEL.
Ugh. The story is entitled to focus on other characters, and overall I've enjoyed the outcome of this league. But you have to wonder how they can justify Barcha being this weak, even against a team as dominant as PXG.
Now, I did a fact-check to see if I'm just being salty (always a possibility). I looked at the teams by Blue Lock players, and specifically 1) who has a volume cover and 2) who is likely to get a volume cover between now and the manga ending.
My rationale? Volume covers are a proxy for talent/story significance, and appear to be an early bellwether for who might make it into the new U20 team lineup. Sendou fans rejoice
The results kinda support both the "me being salty" angle as well as the "Bachira is being deliberately ratio'd" one. Let me explain.
Tumblr media
Germany are stacked next to the others, especially when they have both Kaiser and Ness as well. However: of the seven BL characters that have volume covers, four of these were revealed during the NEL arc. It makes sense, with Germany being the protagonist's team. But something to keep in mind, when we look at the others.
Tumblr media
France has four characters that had volume covers before the NEL started. It's extremely likely Zantetsu will get one, and there's outside odds of Nanase also getting a cover. France has a potential NG11 or high-level player in Charles Chevalier. There's also Kento Cho, who had a not-insignificant role in the U20 v BL11 match. Worth noting.
Tumblr media
I was surprised by how many high-profile characters Italy have, with five volume covers between them. This said, two characters (Niko and Sendou) only received theirs during the Ubers match arc, although I'd argue Niko would have received one earlier if it wasn't for Kaneshiro's commitment to the bit. Italy also has Don Lorenzo, possibly the most effective NG11 we've seen in action so far. IMO there's a slim chance Fukaku Gen will get a cover in future—the national team needs more than one goalie.
Tumblr media
England have three volume cover stars: when you hear Manshine, all you can really picture is Nagi, Reo and Chigiri, right? In addition they have Wanima the elder and Niou, one of whom may sneak into the national team bench and nab a volume cover (my money's on Niou, solely because of that magnificent beard). Other than that, Manshine only has Agi, who's noted to have significant talent.
Tumblr media
Lastly Spain, which has two volume covers to its credit and (in my view) low chances of any further ones. Maaaaybe Darai or Hayate, if we work off the current rankings (post round 3). But I can't see them beating Tokimitsu or Zantetsu for a Top 23 placement. They only have one notable Spanish player that has speaking lines (Ignacio Lara) but I wouldn't put him on, say, Agi's level.
To recap, the teams have this many significant characters as of the time of writing:
Germany: 7 + 2 (Kainess) + 2 (Igaguri, Kiyora) = 11.
Interestingly, a number that's give high status in this manga, and one that is often associated with Isagi.
France: 4 + 1 (Chevalier) + 2 (Zantetsu, Nanase) = 7
Italy: 5 + 1 (Lorenzo) + 1 (Fukaku) = 7
England: 3 + 1 (Agi) + 2?? (Niou, Wanima) = 6?? (closer to 5 really)
Spain: 2
If we retrospectively discount any character that didn't have a volume cover before the NEL arc kicked off, and reference only high-profile BL players:
Germany: 3
France: 4
Italy: 3
England: 3
Spain: 2
In conclusion: Spain has been outgunned since day one, and the story has failed to develop any of the Spanish players beside Bachira and Otoya... despite having a over a third of the national team front bench among its ranks.
I think Bachira and in particular, Otoya, have underperformed overall, considering their elevated position prior to the NEL. However, a repeated theme in the NEL is, you're only as good as the support or players around you.
Bachira and Otoya simply don't have the calibre of supporting midfielders, wingers or defensive players in Barcha that the other teams have. They don't have an NG11 player, or a defence capable of holding off a strong offensive opponent.
To get back to my original point: no wonder Lavinho had to sub on to give his two star players a chance to shine against PXG. It's indicative of the level of talent on the French front bench.

another blue lock rant (act surprised) and i’m just gonna talk about pxg and bastard and how their match might go down, taking a page outta ego’s book, through personal bias and like 5% data from the manga
sooo manga spoilers for the neo egoist league arc
idk it feels like france is gonna be the final boss of the neo egoist arc, right ??? rin, shidou, loki, karasu, nanase, and zantetsu ???? it feel like they’re setting up foils such as rin vs isagi, shidou vs kunigami or kaiser or both fuck it, loki vs noa- if they decide to play, nanase vs ness, and zantetsu with like idk yukki or something if anything zantetsu’ll be moral support LMFAO i just wanna see zantetsu again fr idc if he’s on the bench 😭
anyways assuming karasu and nanase make the starting line up (we already know rin and shidou did) there could be some really interesting matchups when bastard finally plays against them. especially now that isagi has gone up many levels and kunigami only had a few moments to shine so far in the fc and msc matches and they have to prove wild card program did something right ? and kunigami could get his revenge on shidou for eliminating him in the first place.
the way kaiser could serve as a rival for rin, shidou, OR loki to be honest LMFAOO he’s bastard’s strongest player and the player closest to sae in terms of skill level so rin could wanna duke it out w him ykwim but no doubt this match is gonna focus on him and isagi, it’s been between them since the second selection and it’s definitely not gonna stop cause of kaiser. and loki is an up and coming player at SEVENTEEN ?? he and kaiser could have an interesting matchup, if they sub him in. and shidou loooovess a strong player so he might wanna challenge kaiser and yk kaiser will throw some wild insults back at him LMAOO plus they’re both unpredictable and have pretty good physical strength i mean
Tumblr media Tumblr media
yall see my vision for these two shits right
well if all else, kaiser could be locked down by karasu so he could show his improvement since u20 when he was holding defense together
nanase has always been a good support/passer so i could see him running into troubles with ness (assuming nanase even makes the starting line up and ness actually does shit) but i think ness actually WILL contribute this time considering he disappeared the second half of msc vs bm, he needs his own little moment or obstacle. but i also think unless loki TOUGHENED up nanase, he might be too passive for someone as sadistic as ness but i have faith in my fruity little guy
IF ANYTHING... i think nanase and hiori could be an interesting match up. hiori has been studdyinngg bastard, fc, and manshine since the start and there’s no way noa isn’t picking up on that. we need to see what hiori learned and how he improved or maybe they could save hiori’s growth for the italy game since he’s known for getting through tight spaces and italy is stacked on defense fr but we’re assuming france is the final boss and we’ve already played through italy
BUUUTT karasu and yukimiya were teammates before, so having them as rivals now could be interesting, like nanase and hiori. karasu could prove to understand yuki and he’d be another good obstacle for yuki to overcome. and yuki, now that he has his new gyro shot, he could be a harder player for karasu to defend against.
i could definitely see karasu being all over the place, kinda like chigiri and otoya. also zantetsu, if he’s on the starting line up, can be like karasu’s support as we saw he’s able to attack and defend in the first selection. he would be able to cover the empty spaces that karasu might not be able to cover if he’s busy with kaiser or yukimiya
karasu could play a big role in locking bastard down and holding up defense, we know he can do it as we saw in u20. and maybe similarly to u20, karasu could be supported by nanase and zantetsu like how chigiri and niko were running around and manmarking and reo and hiori were subbed in and able to cover defense more
also it would be a good final match to conclude. everyone would be going against their foil, as mentioned earlier, and someone better than them.
rin and isagi, it’s obvious what they’ve got going on.
kunigami and shidou need to settle their rivalry, seeing shidou again could trigger something in kunigami
whoever kaiser will matchup with, they’ll have to evolve a shit ton in order to make moves on him like isagi did. unless it’s rin. personally, i think having rin and kaiser AT LEAST MEET is a good way to reveal kaiser knows sae and crushed him in their game together which caused sae to switch positions
but counterpoint could be rin completely has detached himself from sae after u20 and was set on being THE best so it would be a little harder for kaiser to get a rise outta him by just mentioning sae. but idk maybe kaiser revealing he was the one who started the catalyst of rin’s biggest turning point of his life could trigger something, kinda like what happened with rin and leonardo luna
Tumblr media
you see what i’m saying
and you know kaiser’s gonna be a piece of shit about it too. rin could score the first goal and kaiser will say “oh well, would you look at that?! so that’s what sae itoshi’s little brother is capable of, hm?”
and he’s gonna pull another
Tumblr media
trying to figure out kaiser’s role now that isagi locked him down is a little difficult. but what’s also difficult to figure out is HOW THE HELL JULIEN LOKI GOT RIN AND SHIDOU TO COOPERATE W EACH OTHER
as kind and polite loki looks, i think the obvious creative choice is for him to be an absolute monster. from what we’ve seen of him so far, he’s got a stern voice and he’s got quite a lot of say between the top five. judging by the way the top five DEGRADED bllk’s top player, they have to have respect for loki.
but this aint about loki
if france is the last game, i have NO IDEA how kaiser and isagi’s relationship/rivalry could even begin to develop from the ending of msc vs bm LMAOO if italy comes after, i don’t really have any creative ideas other than they try to work together but fr just can’t. and idk maybe they have some magical chemical reaction in this game for the sake of crushing rin or shidou or both again fuck it but who knows
anyways that’s all i have im desperate to see pxg play but i will sit happily through the italy game if it makes france the final boss
and also i miss oliver aiku

Alla Rai i diritti di trasmissione del Mondiale in Australia e Nuova Zelanda.
from the article:
Rai, as part of the agreement between FIFA and the EBU, representing the European public televisions, has acquired the multiplatform broadcasting rights, exclusively free-to-air for Italy, of the 2023 Women's Soccer World Cup, in schedule from 20 July to 20 August 2023 in Australia and New Zealand. The broadcasting rights concern 15 matches of the world championship event, including all the matches of the Italian national team, the opening match, the two semi-finals and the final. In addition to those on the 2023 Women's World Cup, the agreement with FIFA also provides for the broadcasting rights of the "FIFA Other Events 2024/2027" package, i.e. the U20 and U17 Youth World Cups, both for men and women, and some documentaries produced by FIFA and dedicated to the Women's World Cup.

Junior Wallabies vs Argentina – Rugby Championship U20s Predictions
Australia performed admirably in the 2023 U20 Rugby World Cup, despite a difficult draw against England and Ireland. Argentina, on the other hand, had a more favorable draw, but faced inconsistent sides in Italy and South Africa.
It could be another tight finish, but I believe Australia will break away late in the game to win by ten or more points.
Australia finished seventh in the 2023 U20 Rugby World Cup.
Australia has won its last two matches, against New Zealand and Wales.
Argentina finished ninth in the 2023 U20 Rugby World Cup.
Argentina won the final two matches of the 2023 U20 Rugby World Cup.
