Hey there, 3rd grade-math teachers. Here is another math fractions anchor chart to teach 3rd grade students all about equal parts... Next week, I will start with equivalent fractions... that's the part of this lesson that my students have had most trouble with in the past. Any suggestions or tips? Please comment. #3rdgrademath #equivalentfractions #teaching #newteacher #teachersfollowingteachers #teach #teacherslife #teachersofinsta #teachershare #iteachtoo #iteach3rd #iteachupperelementary #elementaryschool #mathclass #teacherinspiration #students #mathteachersofinstagram (at Galveston, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZ4jJHwul8Z/?utm_medium=tumblr

And, because no one ever accused me of running out of cool books, for this seventh night of Chanukah, yet another book with an unusual approach to the Chanukah story! "Jodie's Chanukah Dig" (2008) by Anna Levine and Ksenia Topaz, introduces children to the importance of archaeology in understanding our religious and cultural traditions in historical context. Jodie lives in Israel, and wants to be an archaeologist like her dad. Much to her good luck and delight, she's about to have more than just a regular old educational experience on her Chanukah break from school, as she accompanies him to a dig on the very site where Judah Maccabee fought the Assyrians...! A great book for getting kids excited about the tangible connections between modern day traditions and historical discoveries. ⚫ ⚫ ⚫ #noodlenutsclassickidlit #jewishnoodlenuts #noodlenutschanukah #jodieshanukkahdig #annalevine #kseniatopaz #maccabees #judahmaccabee #archaeology #israel #chanukah #hanukkah #jewishhistory #archaeologyforkids #ancienthistory #jewishkidsbooks #jewishkids #iteachthirdgrade #iteach3rd #iteach345 https://www.instagram.com/p/B6oJoHEnQPK/?igshid=4ac137wsjmem

I recently wrote about discouraging first-time children's authors from writing in rhyme. Far from disliking rhyming picture books, I'm a huge fan of them, but it's easy for neophyte writers of children's stories to get caught up in cutesy tropes and miss the real beauty and depth of language that can and should be at the centre of the stories that introduce our children to books at a young age. Sometimes the most lyrical books don't rhyme at all. One of the most gorgeous examples I've seen of this recently is "Before She Was Harriet" (2017) by wife-and-husband author-illustrator team Lesa Cline-Ransome and James E. Ransome. As we reach the end of Black History Month, and our book club's month of stories of bold and courageous hearts, I can't think of anyone more deserving of the spotlight than Harriet Tubman, much written about but never too much. And this book in particular, which, working backwards from her elder years, enumerates Ms. Tubman's many names and titles and the extraordinary hats she wore throughout her awe-inspiring life, is not to be missed. From rhythmically gorgeous prose to the stunning oil paintings that help us envision this almost impossibly extraordinary life, the Ransomes have created something exquisite ... with nary a rhyme in sight. 😉 For more inspiring stories of bold hearts, follow #FindMeStories_Heart and check out our other book club members tagged on the last slide. ⚫ ⚫ ⚫ #noodlenutskidsbooks #noodlenuts_blackvoices #beforeshewasharriet #lesaclineransome #jameseransome #jamesransome #theransomes #corettascottkingaward #OwnVoices #ownvoicesbooks #blackhistorymonth #harriettubman #blackhistorymonth2020 #blackhistoryeveryday #undergroundrailroad #picturebookbiography #history #historybooks #iteach2nd #iteach3rd #iteach4th #iteach5th https://www.instagram.com/p/B895yeBHTdG/?igshid=1vl3h3f421y4n

This 'Harry Potter'-themed classroom has us wanting to be in third grade again
You'll never actually attend Hogwarts, so this might be the next best option.
Third grade teacher Tressa Bargella has fully transformed her classroom into an homage to the Harry Potter series.
SEE ALSO: PSA: You can get Harry Potter ebooks. For free!
The teacher created an Instagram account to document the making of her Potter-fied classroom. And truth be told I am incredibly jealous of these third graders. The room is filled with references to the outrageously popular books, like the Mirror of Erised, potions, and Quidditch goals posts.

Teachers start powerful #ArmMeWith movement to speak out against guns in classrooms
In the wake of yet another tragic school shooting, teachers have started an eye-opening movement on social media to let the world know what preventative measures truly need to be taken seriously to protect students.
In response to the recent mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, President Trump suggested that some teaches receive artillery training so they can be armed in their classrooms. But rather than adding more guns to educational environments, teaches are applying the hashtag #ArmMeWith to share far more peaceful resources they wish to be armed with, such as school renders, mental health resources and funding, impactful a difference in curriculum, and stronger gun control legislation.
SEE ALSO: Donald Trump thinks he’s the first person to come up with movie ratings
The movement was started by two lecturers: Brittany Wheaton, a educator in Utah, andOlivia Bertels from Kansas. Both 27 -year-olds satisfied through Instagram, according to Buzzfeed, and eagerly asked the online teacher community to share their personal thoughts on how to ensure the safety and proper education of students.
Teachers in all the regions of the U.S. have been using the hashtag.
R E A L* W O R L D* S O L U T I O N S* my friend @thesuperheroteacher and I think that we should find more practical answers than making educators artilleries. I hope you’ll take the same posture and read the rationale on my stories as to why. Join us. #armmewith

#armmewith the resources and funding needed to help students experiencing mental health issues, NOT guns. Teacher , now( more than ever) is the time to take and stand and say we will not accept another one of our students being lost to another senseless school shooting. We have to strive for MORE. Our students deserve it. Call, write, march … do whatever you can to show enough is enough — we Necessity stronger gun statutes, we Necessity funding for mental health issues, we Necessity our students to L I V E so they can change the future of this country. #resist #standup #guncontrol #enoughisenough #notonemore #gunsafety #schoolsafety #mentalhealth #teachertribe #iteachtoo #teachersmatter

One high school English teacher requested a “curriculum that tells the truth, the ability to teach the truth, a society that believes the truth, and political leaders who make laws based on the truth.”
We cannot afford to dismis the truth about what is happening in our country. What is truly frightening is the number of people who refuse to make decisions based upon facts. It is a fact that families mailed their loved ones to school and now they are planning funerals. It is a fact that futures were purposed when they were just beginning. It is a fact that too many students have lost their lives in a space where they are supposed to be educated and protected. It is a fact that too many people in power are not using that power to bring about the necessary changes that could prevent things like this from happening. Far too many bullets claim our students in the streets for them to claim our students in school, too. We don’t need rhetoric when reality is working overtime. #ArmMeWith the truth, the whole true, and nothing but the truth.***** #education #teacher #teachers #teachersofinstagram #teachersfollowteachers #iteachtoo #teacherspayteachers #tpt #englishteacher #highschool #blackteachersrock #blackboyjoy #thedapperteacher #blackhistorymonth #blackhistory #armmewith

Others asked to be armed with more on-site mental health professionals, like school counselors and social workers, as well as self-care classes, bullet-proof glass, an enhanced library, and a range of other resources that focus on the physical, mental, and emotional care of students and faculty members.
#Armmewith is a movement by @thesuperheroteacher and @missbertels_ and I invite you to join in! Skip through my pics and post your own( I’ve included a blank template) or go to goo.go/ 52 XggF to print your own out! . . . The Arm Me With movement is to construct our presidents aware of what teachers truly need in the classroom. As some of you know, I’m a handgun proprietor and I can shoot a handgun, but I do not believe handgun belong anywhere near a classroom. Teaches given sufficient burdens and the classroom is an unpredictable place. Likewise teachers are outnumbered by kids 30:1 oftentimes. Guns are not the answer here, and I think they’d be catastrophic. Please flip through my ideal answers and seem free to use the blank video to make your own solution! . . . . . . #armwithme #schoolsafetynow #educatorsagainstgunviolence #teachersofinstagram #teachersfollowteachers

This is a movement that I can 100% get on board with. If you’ve heard me talking here my class size the last couple years, you will not be surprised that this is one of my hot button issues. In the mind of children, negative attention is still attention, and I is argued that as we create class sizes, overload teachers, and cut subsistence, we will continue to see major behavioral, social, and emotional issues rise to unparalleled levels. I think that reaching out to educators about styles that we can be PROactive , not reactive, in the education world to reduce violence of various kinds is absolutely one of the best places to start making a change! . . . . . #ArmMeWith #RealTalk #IssuesInEducation #iTeach2nd #iTeach3rd #TeacherLife #TeachersOfInstagram #TeacherCommunity #TargetTeachers

It isn’t enough to teach our children how to read. They need to learn how to deal with the complex feelings facing them+ providing access to mental health services. We need to remove the stigma – not just for our students/ their families, but ourselves too. #ArmMeWith this , not a gun. pic.twitter.com/ YEEN8htZPW

“Since educators are the individuals in the classroom where reference is happens, I like to think we know what’s best for our students, ” Wheatontold Buzzfeed. “If you’re an instructor, you know that[ more guns] is no longer an solution to stopping the violence that’s happening in our schools.”
For those looking to participate in the movement, Wheaton has shared a blank #ArmMeWith template that is likely to be downloaded and filled out.
