tsu!!
My identity hc for them
see tomori, strike that, reverse it! he knows he likes guys, and he's kinda just seeing what happens past that! hes vibing w/himself and hes just kinda chilling, hes content without a label for his attraction
aaaand hes a trans lad! similar to tomori sometimes he feels more binary trans sometimes not he's really just chillin ! to make this section longer uhhhm. i think his relationship with his past is like. "i have always been a boy, my body is a guys body, and when i was younger i was a boy, same as today. but also i was a girl once i was a small little girl and she is not alive anymore but also she is still here standing right in front of u when u look at me, same as she ever was and as she always will be. but also i am me myself and i am a boy. okie?" and refuses to explain or elaborate (he probably said this to kouhei. kouhei doesnt ask hes just like "okie". tbh kouhei prolly didnt ask in the first place tsu just started talking)
Thoughts on their home life/family
! yk as special reward for everyone who takes the time to read through this i will give u a spoile-y. as a treat. tsurugi was born when a piece of snow came in through a chimney and landed in the fire. and many many miles away, from the stump of the tree that was cut down to be logs for that fire, tsurugi tumbled out of a naturally occurring divot in the wood. this is very true and i just hope u all know the power that comes with this information!!! <333
(ofc, thats all jokes! tsu is a bunch of ice crystals from a sun halo, all swirled together and gently sent down to the earth)
How i feel about their canonical writing/handling
how... do i not spoil things. u have to have patience with his writing. i promise he is more than like.. manic pixie leftist cop boy. u just have to have patience. boy wears his heart on his sleeve. but also he has a bunch of plastic wrap around it. u can see his heart it is the textbook definition of on his sleeve. but it is obscured and u cannot reach it. every day before i sleep i get on my knees and pray that people have faith in his writing and don't think the way he's written is cringefail.
The one thing i’d want to make canon about them
i cant remember if this factoid has come up but i dont think it has in any posts. tsu's hair is like.... really choppy, if u brushed it out/took a straightener to it to get it all flat, you'd see its alll different lengths. bc he tends to get twigs and sticks and the like stuck in there and just. cuts hair off/"oh this bit is too long! *snip*" a lot. that being said it looks oddly intentional/u cant tell its a million different lengths with how he styles it. he will cry if anyone tries to drag him to a hair stylist.
My number one favorite ship for them
tsuhara. ch1 spoilers this is just text encoded in hex google hex to text decoder and u should be good. 74 68 69 73 20 69 73 20 77 68 79 20 69 20 77 61 6E 74 20 74 6F 20 72 65 77 72 69 74 65 20 74 68 65 20 63 68 31 20 69 6E 76 65 73 74 69 67 61 74 69 6F 6E 20 73 6F 20 62 61 64 6C 79 2E 20 69 20 77 61 6E 74 20 74 6F 20 68 61 6E 64 6C 65 20 74 68 65 69 72 20 69 6E 74 65 72 61 63 74 69 6F 6E 73 20 28 61 6C 6F 6E 67 20 77 69 74 68 20 74 73 75 73 20 69 6E 6E 65 72 20 6D 6F 6E 6F 6C 6F 67 75 65 29 20 61 20 6C 6F 74 20 64 69 66 66 65 72 65 6E 74 6C 79 21
…Now everyone else i ship with them
i mean he is besties with everyone? many platonic ships. he is friend shaped !
The thing i will NEVER ship
like many of the ask meme fills so far: his wrist is limp, your honor...
a dynamic/relationship i wish was explored more (in canon, or in fandom)
tsurugi is incapable of leaving anyone alone. he. nothing needs to be explored more. tsu & alone time perhaps.
thoughts on their design (appearance-wise)
im not even gonna lie trying to work out fits for him always makes me want to explode. i may rework his fit again soon ive already made minor changes which i havent mentioned. that in mind his bandages and bracelets and bruises are alllways gonna be the same! theyre eternal!
A music-related thought- a song that reminds me of them, or what their music taste is, etc
rule #4 - fish in a birdcage was playing when i started this post. the reason its on any of my playlists is bc i heard it and went fuck. uhhhh. yeah rule #4 fish in a birdcage would be very tsu and kouhei except jk!!! there is nothing slightly odd or abnodmal or not right with either of the people i mentioned theyre totally fine. mhm mhm!
anyways funnily enough he actually doesnt have a playlist. uhhh. actually he's got a lot of playlists with other characters but not his own... i started this w/a tsu + someone else song so ill only list individual ones from here on out akjdsjkkjdsdk
i thiiink all of sweet trip's "you will never know why" album (im bad with my memory and dont feel like going to look at it all) but especially your world is eternally complete + milk. hmmm. theres some others but this is good i think!

A few months after the events in Banoi, the US military placed the Golden State in full quarantine. Part of what allowed the creators to make the game so spectacular was that it doesn’t have a fully open world, although it offers plenty of opportunities for exploration and side missions. The thing that struck me the most was how viscerally gory Dead Island 2 is. Dead Island 2 is something new with exciting action. Cup Of Tea
Tumblr media
What Tea Can Teach You
There was a Japanese Zen master named Nan-in who lived during the Meiji era (1868-1912). During his days as a teacher, he was visited by a university professor curious about Zen.
Being polite, Nan-in served the professor a cup of tea.
As he poured, the professor’s cup became full, but Nan-in kept on pouring. As the professor watched the cup overflow, he could no longer contain himself and said, “It is overfull. No more will go in!”
Nan-in turned to the professor and said, “Like the cup, you are too full of your own opinions and speculations. How can I show you Zen unless you first empty your cup?”
The Beginning :
first things first I am Ngakpa Konchok Dorje Tsondon, this blog had several life’s because sometimes the provider played update tricks sometimes was myself who wanted different things.
I am a yogi from the Drikung Kagyu Lineage but my roots of Buddha Dharma are from Karma Kagyu, Nigmapas, Gulugpas and Shaigon, Zen I had lot of different teachers, because my view was build on Jagung Kuntrul Rinpoche teaching and Kalu Rinpoche teaching “Rimey”. After lot of chaos and tones of challenges one day I found Garchen Rinpoche who became my vajra master.
Let have a cup of tea
I heard that a lot why do you teach? My answers are on my Ngakpa vows there is some point about that but my real answer is Bodhicitta that why I teach, I am just an insect compare to the big Rinpoche but if one of my text help one being I rejoice in it.
Attitude To Dharma
The Buddha teach about the three pots, this teaching is extremely important because learn us the right view we need to take. The Tea teaching is another one why is before all of the teachings. Well not just because I love Koan and I love do Koan but more because today we are all full as a cup of tea.
Recently I heard something on the radio about a scientific who been to India talked with the Swamies and Lamas. He was surprised about the full effect of meditation but he forgot one thing to empty is a cup.
Like that scientist, we all come with a massive cup full of judgement, views, information and mostly let’s call it massive ego.
When I touch the holy land of India I had a simple question in my head how to stop suffering but even with that, I had to learn to empty my cup because not doing it will be like asking the Dalai Lama for help and not take any of his advice.
Dharma whatever dharma you take isn’t like going to church and eat kinda truth and everyone happy, whatever you take Vedic, Buddha or Sikh dharma be ready for the ride. That means dharma is base on experience a teacher will show you the way but you got to do 100% of the efforts to get there.
No one will save you from your “mistakes” Christian call that sin we call that non virtue, non virtues are like putting a mine in road that you drive and forgot about it. The problem when the mine gonna to explode that when the problem start.
The right attitude to dharma well whatever level we are we always learn, new ways there for we should develop the student attitude. Keep mind open and keep humble.
50 Verses of Guru Devotion
Composed by Ashvagosha
L1. Bowing in the proper way to the lotus feet of my Guru, who is the cause for me to attain the state of a glorious Vajrasattva, I shall condense and explain in brief what has been said in many stainless tantric texts about Guru-devotion. (Therefore) listen with respect.
2. All the Buddhas of the past, present and future, residing in every land in the ten directions, have paid homage to the Tantric Masters from whom they have received the highest initiations. (Is there need to mention that you should too?)
3. Three times each day, with supreme faith, you must show your respect to your Guru who teaches you (the tantric path), by pressing your palms together, offering a mandala as well as flowers and prostrating (touching) your head to his feet.
4. Those who hold ordination vows, if (your Guru) is a layman or your junior, prostrate (in public) while facing such things as his scriptural texts in order to avoid worldly scorn. But in your mind (prostrate to your Guru).
5. As for serving (your Guru) and showing him respect, such as obeying what he says, standing up (when he comes) and showing him to his seat — these should be done even by those with ordination vows (whose Gurus are laymen or their juniors). But (in public), avoid prostrating and unorthodox actions (such as washing his feet).
6. In order for the words of honour of neither the Guru nor the disciple to degenerate, there must be a mutual examination beforehand (to determine if each can) brave a Guru-disciple relationship.
7. A disciple with sense should not accept as his Guru someone who lacks compassion or who is angersome, vicious or arrogant, possessive, undisciplined or boasts of his knowledge.
8. (A Guru should be) stable (in his actions), cultivated (in his speech), wise, patient and honest. He should neither conceal his shortcomings, nor pretend to possess qualities he lacks. He should be an expert in the meanings (of tantra) and in its ritual procedures (of medicine and turning back obstacles). Also he should have loving compassion and a complete knowledge of the scriptures.
9. He should have full experience in all ten fields, skill in the drawing of mandalas, full knowledge of how to explain the tantras, supreme faith and his senses fully under control.
10. Having become the disciple of such a protecting (Guru), should you then despise him from your heart, you will reap continual suffering as if you had disparaged all the Buddhas.
11. If you are so foolish as to despise your Guru, you will contract contagious diseases and those caused by harmful spirits. You will die (a horrible death) caused by demons, plagues or poison.
12. You will be killed by (wicked) kings or fire, by poisonous snakes, water, witches or bandits, by harmful spirits or savages, and then be reborn in a hell.
13. Never disturb you Guru’s mind. Should you be foolish and happen to do this, you will surely boil in hell.
14. Whatever fearful hells have been taught, such as Avici, the Hell of Uninterrupted pain, it is clearly explained that those who disparage their Gurus will have to remain there (a very long time).
15. Therefore, exert yourself wholeheartedly never to belittle your Tantric Master who makes no display of his great wisdom and virtues.
16. (If from a lack of awareness you have shown disrespect) to your Guru, reverently present an offering to him and seek his forgiveness. Then in the future such harms and plagues will not befall you.
17. It has been taught that for the Guru to whom you have pledged your word of honour (to visualize as one with your meditational deity), you should willingly sacrifice your wife, children and even your life, although these are not (easy) to give away. Is there need to mention your fleeting weath?
18. (Such practice of offering) can confer even Buddhahood on a zealous (disciple) in his very lifetime, which otherwise might be difficult to attain even in countless millions of eons.
19. Always keep your word of honour. Always make offerings to the Enlightened Ones. Always make offerings also to your Guru, for he is the same as all the Buddhas.
20. Those who wish (to attain) the inexhaustible (state of a Buddha’s Wisdom Body) should give to their Guru whatever they themselves find pleasing, from the most trifling objects to those of best quality.
21. Giving (to your Guru) is the same as making continual offerings to all the Buddhas. From such giving, much merit is gathered. From such collection comes the supreme powerful attainment (of Buddhahood).
22. Therefore, a disciple with the good qualities of compassion, generosity, moral self-control and patience should never regard his Guru and the Buddha Vajradhara as different.
23. If you should never tread even on (your Guru’s) shadow, because the fearsome consequences are the same as destroying a stupa, is there need to mention never stepping on or over his shoes or seat, (sitting in his place or riding) his mount?
24. (A disciple) having great sense should obey the words of his Guru joyfully and with enthusiasm. If you lack the knowledge or ability (to do what he says), explain in (polite) words why you cannot (comply).
25. It is from your Guru that powerful attainments, higher rebirth and happiness come. Therefore, make a wholehearted effort never to transgress your Guru’s advice.
26. (Guard) your Guru’s belongings as you would your own life. Treat even your Guru’s beloved (family) with the same (respect you show for him). (Have affectionate regard for) those closely around him as if they were your own dearest kin. Single-mindedly think (in this way) at all times.
27. Never sit on the (same) bed or seat (as your Guru), nor walk ahead of him. (At teachings do not) wear your hair in a top-knot, (a hat, shoes or any weapons). Never touch a seat (before he sits down), or if he happens to sits on the ground. Do not place your hands (proudly) on your hips or wring them (before him).
28. Never sit or recline while your Guru is standing (nor lie while he is sitting). Always be ready to stand up and serve him skillfully in an excellent manner.
29. In the presence of your Guru, never do such things as spit, (cough or sneeze without covering your mouth). Never stretch out your legs when at your seat, nor walk back and forth (without reason before him), and never argue.
30. Never massage or rub your limbs. Do not sing, dance or play musical instruments (for other than religious purposes). And never chatter idly or speak in excess (or too loudly) within the range of (your Guru’s) hearing.
31. (When your Guru enters the room) get up from your seat and bow your head slightly. Sit (in his presence) respectfully. At night, at rivers or on dangerous paths, with (your Guru’s) permission, you may walk before him.
32. In the direct sight of his Guru, (a disciple) with sense should not (sit) with his body twisted around, nor lean (casually) against pillars and such. Never crack your knuckles, (play with your fingers or clean your nails).
33. When washing (your Guru’s) feet or his body, drying, massaging (or shaving) him, precede such actions with (three) prostrations and at their conclusion do the same. Then attend (to yourself) as much as you like.
34. Should you need to address (your Guru) by his name, add the title “Your Presence” after it. To generate respect for him in others, further honorifics may also be used.
35. When asking for your Guru’s advice, first announce why you have come. With palms pressed together at your heart, listen to what he tells you, without (letting your mind) wander about. Then (when he has spoken), you should reply, “I shall do exactly as you have said.”
36. After doing (what your Guru has told you), report (what has happened) in polite, gentle words. Should you yawn or cough, (clear your throat or laugh in his presence), cover your mouth with your hand.
37. If you wish to receive a certain teaching, request three times with your palms pressed together, while before him on your (right) knee. (Then at his discourse), sit humbly and with respect, wearing appropriate clothing that is neat (and clean, without ornaments, jewelry or cosmetics).
38. Whatever you do to serve (your Guru) or show him respect, should never be done with an arrogant mind. Instead you should be like a newlywed bride, timid, bashful and very subdued.
39. In the presence of (the Guru) who teaches you (the Path), stop acting in a conceited, coquettish manner. As for boasting to others what you have done (for your Guru), examine (your conscience) and discard all such acts.
40. If you are (requested) to perform a consecration, (an initiation into) a mandala, a fire puja or to gather disciples and deliver a discourse, you may not do so if your Guru resides in that area, unless you receive his prior permission.
41. Whatever offerings you receive from performing such rites as (the consecration known as) “Opening the Eyes”, you should present all these to your Guru. Once he has taken a token portion, you may use the rest for whatever you like.
42. In the presence of his Guru, a disciple should not act (as a Guru) to his own disciples and they should not act towards him as their Guru. Therefore (before your own Guru), stop (your disciples) from showing you respect such as rising (when you come) and making prostrations.
43. Whenever you make an offering to your Guru, or whenever your Guru presents you with something, a disciple with sense will (present and) receive this, using both hands and with his head slightly bent.
44. Be diligent in all your actions, (alert and) mindful never to forget (your word of honour). If fellow disciples transgress (what is proper) in their behaviour, correct each other in a friendly manner.
45. If because of sickness you are physically (unable) to bow to your Guru and must do what normally would be prohibited, even without (his explicit) permission, there will be no unfortunate consequences if you have a virtuous mind.
46. What need is there to say much more. Do whatever pleases your Guru and avoid doing anything he would not like. Be diligent in both of these.
47. “Powerful attainments follow from (doing what) your Guru (likes).” This has been said by (the Buddha) Vajradhara himself. Knowing this, try to please your Guru fully with all the actions (of your body, speech and mind).
48. After a disciple has taken refuge in the Triple Gem and developed a pure (Enlightened) motive, he should be given this (text) to take to his heart (how to abandon his own arrogant self-will and) follow in his Guru’s footsteps (along the Graded Path to Enlightenment).
49. (By studying the prerequisite trainings of Guru-devotion and the Graded Path, common to both the Sutra and Tantra,) you will become a (suitable) vessel (to hold) the pure Dharma. You may then be given such teachings as Tantra. (After receiving the proper initiations,) recite out loud the fourteen root vows and take them sincerely to your heart.
50. As I have not made the mistake (of adding my personal interpretation) when writing this work, may this be of infinite benefit to all disciples who would follow their Guru. By the limitless merit I have gathered in this way, may all sentient beings quickly attain Buddhahood

What if it was the fire-starters son?
"What if it was the fire-starters son? I'm not sure I catch your meaning. What if my daughter was a son instead?" Cypris pondered the concept, "It's really hard to say. If I had to guess he probably would not have found his way back to me as she has. Likely followed closer in his father's footsteps, been schooled differently. Or he could have seen things as she had."
"If you mean of Dorian, Only time will tell with him. Percival doesn't seem to think he's cursed as he lacks certain traits of my own and Ava's. It may very well be, dove, that its a women only trait. If it were passed to the men, I'd be dreading the toddler stage far more than I do."
@captzexx thanks for the ask!

"What's something you've always wanted to ask me to try—but assumed I wouldn't like?"
Cypris hummed with bemusement. “You sure you want -me- to answer that?” Brows rose as she leveled a pointed gaze on the warlock.  There was a roll of her shoulder with a haphazard shrug before simply stating, “Pegging... Any hinted motions that might have lead to it were redirected. It’s not for everyone. It’s not so much something I’ve wanted to ask for but there is the occasional urge to be on the giving side for a change.” Cypris chuckled, her gaze held on Percival for any likely reaction or lack thereof.

23. Who is better with kids?
Gonna vote Percival. Mainly because I’m pretty sure he has more patience than Cypris. And he’s more likely to read a parenting book or find advice while Cypris wings it. Though she has a tendency to be more logical.

Percival looked over the little infant.
"It's so tiny," he commented as he inspected it closely.
"Ten fingers, ten toes, one noes, two eyes..." Percival counted all the bits.
"And... it's a boy! It's definitely a boy!" He praised with giddy excitement.
"We made a boy Cypris. A teeny tiny boy!"

The Summons, (DWCreunion/afterlife)
"Josalora Adombrare..." The name rolled off the captain's tongue with a fantastical irony that came with seeing the other woman cross the loading plank. "I thought we'd agreed to keep our distance."
Cold eyes scanned the deck and beyond before coming to rest on her former compatriot. "We both know our paths are more mingled than not. You're not truly surprised, are you? Been hearing peculiar whispers and thought the least I could do was pay my respects." The ghost of a grin curled beneath deceiving kindness.
Tumblr media
A lip curled as a leather-bound heel pressed into the damp board of the deck. "Not surprised. No. I assure you, however, dove, that your respects are not required. I suggest you get to the bit where you need a favor."
Jos reached into her satchel procuring a small wrapped gift which was placed idly on the ship's rail. A trio of steps carried her further onto the ship as if to make herself at home. "Who's to say I'm not here to do you a favor. We both know you're getting bored in that cottage. Truth be told I'm a little surprised you've chosen to spawn with that... I am surprised. That's all that truly matters."
A hollow laugh sounded. "It's not often that happens anymore. So I come in a charitable mood." The cool grin turned to find Cypris.
Unphased by the insinuated insult, Cypris kept a droll gaze on the deathwitch. "I'm really not in the mood to go rounds with you, Jos. Out with it or get off my ship."
Reaching back to the satchel, this time Josalora withdrew a scroll extending it out. "All work and no play makes for a very boring day. Takes years off your life you know. You're probably running thin at that rate." Pale brows popped up in a teasing wag. "I could help you with that."
Snatching the scroll, Cypris santered away from the witch that she might glimpse the scroll with a modicum of peace. Blood runes she'd not seen in some time-stained the lining. A hollowness not unlike the witch's own sank against her fiery core. Unfurling the scroll further still exposed the etching of a map. A tired voice answered the witch over a shoulder. "I'll need a day to finish the supply reload and finish a few things here."
"Done." Josalora chimed with a thinning smile. "I'll be back in the course of two tides. We're going to have so much fun. Just like old times."

12/28/2020 DAB Transcript
Zechariah 12:1-13:9, Revelation 19:1-21, Psalms 147:1-20, Proverbs 31:1-7
Today is the 28th day of December welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it's great to be here with you in that land in between Christmas and New Year's, that land, that week that we kinda go through and it’s a little bit disrupted but we’re moving beyond Christmas and thinking about New Year's and thinking about what we’re gonna do in the new year, what the New Year's gonna look like. So, welcome to the land in between as we move into these last few days and bring to a close our journey through the Scriptures this year. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Yes, land is in shore. Our voyage across the year and across the Bible, yeah, we’re gonna…we’re gonna dock but we can see land. We’re still out here, a few more days to go. And, so, let's press in and not only allow God's word to speak into our lives and the decisions we’re making about our futures, but also to find this safe oasis. It's always here for us around the Global Campfire. So, we’ve been reading from the book of Zechariah, which is what we will continue to do, well obviously until we complete it. We’re reading from the New Living Translation this week. Zechariah chapters 12 and 13.
Commentary:
Okay. We were talking at the very beginning today when we were just getting together about how we’re in this kind of in between time right now, this between Christmas and New Year's, this week in between where things aren’t…they’re just a little bit different and our hearts and minds turn away from Christmas, like we’re moving beyond Christmas and taking down all the lights and the tree and just…I mean some people keep them up for all the way through January, but I'm just saying generally speaking, we begin to move forward. And we begin to think about forward because we know that there's a line called New Year’s Day. And it's just another day. Indeed, it's just another day but it is the beginning of a new year. And, so, it's a line and…and we kind of live our lives in these 12-month spans when we think about things at this time of the year. What’s the next year gonna look like? And, so, we reflect on those things. We get contemplative about those things, the world over. We start to think about the changes that we need to make, the pounds that we need to lose, the strength that we need to gain, the spirituality that we need to dive deeper into, the story that we are living being more comprehensive or us just being simply more aware of what's actually happening in the present instead of the constant regret of the past and the worry for the future. We think about these things during this year…or doing…during this week before the new year, right? And this is the time…like the programs are out, like there’s different programs looking back at what happened in the year 2020. And what a year to reflect back on because it's been the weirdest one that I remember on a number of levels. It's been a disruptive year that has given us a vision. Maybe we thought we were gonna get a different kind of vision but we got vision of reality in a lot of ways that revealed our fragility as a culture as a society as a humanity, but also the fact that there is work yet to be done in this world in the ways that we interact with one another. And, so, maybe some of that is incorporated into some of the things we would like to…you know…to address, or to engage with or to contemplate in the new year, things that could change the way we live toward one another. And if we consider it, a lot of our resolutions have to do with how we would make changes that would make our life a better life. Like they are really of the self-focused resolutions, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Like if we need to honestly look in the mirror and examine ourselves and say, “okay, you know, here are the things that I would like to see happen physically. Here are the things that I would like to see happen spiritually”, then yeah we’re thinking about our own lives and that's fine. But if that's all there is, if we’re not thinking outwardly at all whatsoever well, then we may not be as comprehensive as we think we are. And, so, Psalms today, Psalms today gives us something to think about, “the Lord’s delight is in those who fear Him. Those who put their hope in His unfailing love.” It’s like that little sentence coming from thousands of years ago in a Psalm near the end of the Psalms bounces its way across history into our lap and then reorients us because we've been thing about losing 20 pounds, and now all the sudden we’re thinking about putting our hope in His unfailing love, which both of those things, both of those things are good things, probably, but one of those things is utterly essential. The Psalms says, “the Lord's delight is in those who fear Him,” The Lord's delight, that's…that's a New Year's resolution, becoming the Lord's delight? And that happens as we systematically, constantly be aware and in awe and in deep reverence at who He is as much as we can know because He is so far beyond us. But what if that was like the primary thing? Like, yeah what if we have this list of things, we want to accomplish this year, things that are resolutions, things that need to change, things that we just need to buckle down and see if we can make it past Valentine's Day on? But what if becoming the delight of the Lord lead the story, like led the way, was the primary thing? So, in the exercise, in the losing weight, in doing mental exercises or whatever, to have stronger mental abilities or mental health, what if becoming the delight of the Lord was the primary thing that we wanted more than anything else, and led the way into all of the other things? Maybe it would be worth just writing that down on the New Year's resolution list that we are…we are forming at the top of the list, like this is the thing that I want, to be the delight of the Lord. I want him to delight in me above all else. Let’s give that some thought as we continue our journey through this week of contemplation, of thinking about the fact that we’re going to exit a year that we will never forget. And yet we still don't exactly know what's out in front of us. But being the delight of the Lord, having the Lord delight in us, that can be an objective no matter what's happening.
Prayer:
Father, we invite You into that. It's coming from, Psalms, but it's landed itself in our laps today and in truth it really does explain what our hearts longing is about, that we would know You, that we would be known by You, and that You would look upon us with mercy and grace and love and patience and kindness, like You always have. And yet so often we thought we were estranged from You or You were angry at us. We would love to live into a new year in which we knew that You delighted in us every day, every moment because we were aware of Your presence, and we respect it and at awe for what You are at work doing transforming us personally but shifting things in the world. Father, we’ve prayed for eyes to see and ears to hear all year long and we’re still praying for that, eyes to see and ears to hear, how to be Your delight. We must put our hope completely in Your unfailing love, like all of our hope in You and in nothing else to get there. So, come Holy Spirit show us how to live in that direction we pray. In the mighty name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.
Announcements:
dailyaudiobible.com is the website, home base, it’s where you find out what's going on around here. Welcome to everybody that is like coming around and checking in and going, “yeah, this is this gonna be the new year” and just kind of getting off to a good ending to the year as we get ready to begin a brand-new journey that will take us through the Bible. Welcome aboard. We’ve been taking this journey since January 1st of 2020 without any clue of what 2020 was gonna look like because it started like every other year, right? And then…yeah…then things began to shift and change, and we had an unusual and unforgettable year. And now we’re getting ready to go into a new year wondering what it will bring. And the good news is day by day step-by-step a rhythm gets established around here and we go through the Bible in community and it is striking, like stunning how often, how remarkably clear the Bible speaks into the things that we’re facing not only is people, but in our own hearts because it does really boil down to why we do what we do. And we get to explore so many stories over so many thousands of years that reveal the heart. And, so, looking forward to that. Welcome aboard. We’re getting ready for the journey of a lifetime. And then all of us who have been sailing through this year, gosh, weren’t there days we had to hold onto each other and hold on to the Scriptures for dear life? And were they not the life raft that we needed? Like, we’re here, we’re here. I keep saying that, but I keep saying that to myself. But it's like we did navigate we did make it we are here, and I'm just looking for to all that we will experience together in the coming year. So, anyway dailyaudiobible.com, that's the website, that's where you find what's going on around here.
And good place to know about is the Community section. This is where the different links to different social media channels that we are a part of are and this is how to get connected. And that's also where the Prayer Wall lives. And that's always happening, and there's always somebody praying, and there's always somebody asking for prayer…like it’s always on and always available to us. So, be aware of that.

Community Prayer and Praise:
Hi this is Radiant Rachel I’m gonn continue praying for husbands. If you would pray with me. Lord I pray that You will give my husband Andrew and added measure of faith today. Enlarge his ability to believe in You, Your word, Your promises, Your ways and Your power. Put a longing in his heart to talk with You and to hear Your voice. Give him an understanding of what it means to bask in Your presence and not just ask for things. May he seek You, rely totally upon You, be led by You, put You first and acknowledge You in everything he does. Lord, You’ve said that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God, Romans 10:17. Hit his soul with Your word so that his faith grows big enough to believe that with You all things are possible, Matthew 19:26. Give him unfailing certainty that what You’ve promised to do You will do, Romans 4:21. Make his faith a shield of protection. Put it into action to move the mountains in his life. Your word says just…the just shall live by faith, Romans 1:17. I pray that he will live the kind of faithful life You’ve called us all to experience. May he know with complete certainty how great is Your goodness which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You’ve prepared for those who trust in You, Psalm 31:19. In Jesus’ name…
When upon life’s fellows you are tempest us when you are discouraged thinking all is lost count your many blessings name them one by one and it will surprise you what the Lord has done. James, Alan, Austin, Alex, Ariana, Alyssa, Shirley, Toby, Trixie, Peppers, and me. These are my blessings after my house burned down last Sunday. It was considered a total loss. Our house of 24 years is no more. All of our memories, all of our Christmas presents, everything gone; however, this childhood song has gotten me through the week. Anytime I start to feel sad or discouraged or overly emotional I just start singing this song in praising God that we all got out safe, everybody is okay. We do lose one of our childhood pets but other than that, praise God we are okay, but we would covet your prayers during this difficult time. We are the Newell family. We live south of Atlanta.
Good morning family Soaring on Eagles Wings and from Canada on Monday December 21st. This morning when I look through my window early my car was just covered with this white beautiful snow and I love to see the snow before there are footsteps or anything on it. Then the sun came through brilliant shining on the snow like a sprinkling of diamonds. And then I heard Dorothy the teacher from California called in and O your voice I love it. It’s so filled with animation and joy and I just needed to hear that voice. And I want to say Dorothy after we beat ourselves up for things we have said, left undone. But you know what, as we acknowledge them to our heavenly Father, he forgives us and I’ve had to do that many, many times. As you have requested, He is already sending new appointments your way as you care for and help guide your students. Being a teacher is an awesome responsibility especially in this Covid time with remote learning etc. etc. And I take my hat’s off to all the teachers. You now have to guide your students and influence them for good. So, I pray for you as you continue. Thank you all the teachers out there. I’m praying for you. I love…
Good morning DAB family this is Nadine from East to Midwest and today’s December the 21st. I’m calling just first to say thank you dear God for our ministry Daily Audio Bible. Also, I just wanted to share with everybody __ that we think that we found Daily Audio Bible? It’s not random. God certainly has wanted to place this into our lives because I was listening to Walta the Burning Bush and, you know, I listened to her talk about how she’s been a member for 13 years and all that she had gone through. And my goodness I’m 59 and I sure wish I had found something like this, you know, but God had not…but I was ready for it I suppose. So, just know if we are…if you are part of it it is an honor a blessing and a gift to you. So, be strong in knowing that you’re part of a special kingdom here on earth. I wanted to pray for Nick who’s tired in his ministry. Stay strong my brother. We are at war. You can rest but don’t get up…I mean don’t give up. Long-term listeners who had stepped away for a minute. __ you said you came back and it’s like O what a new world. Yeah, that’s how it goes when you’re part of the kingdom. It’s like…it’s the difference between night and day as far as East to West. And you said you just loved us. It might sound silly. No. That’s how it goes for us. Victoria Soldier thank you. You remind me of my mom. Thank you for your wisdom and God bless everyone. Merry Christmas and I can’t look…I can’t wait to move into 2021 with you.
Hey this is Jerry calling from Duluth Minnesota it’s 330 in the morning on day 606 of my journey renewed journey with the DAB where God wakes me up in the middle of the night to spend as much time as he wants with me and with and I with him. I was listening to the holiday greeting and the first 30 minutes with Brian and Jill. Thank you so much for sharing your heart and sharing your word that God has put on your radar for 2021, the word Mend. And I couldn’t help but think of Ecclesiastes chapter 3 and in the Amplified Bible in verse seven it says, “a time to tear apart and a time to sew together”. In the Good News Translation it says, “the time for tearing, the time for mending”. In the Living Bible it says, “a time to tear, a time to repair”. In The Message it says, “a time to rip out and another to mend”. In The Voice it says, “a time to tear apart and a time to bind together”. We’ve had a year of 2020 of tearing apart, and a lot of ripping and yet it’s exciting to see what God is gonna do in 2021 in mending us back together. God bless you all. Jerry from Duluth Minnesota.
Hello this is Shakira my name is…sorry. I just wanted to say that this has been a really good journey. I’ve been here since December 1st, 2020. I want to say that am thankful for this family and Brian. I will always push for this because I feel like this is a path that everyone needs to follow. I’m really, really, really, happy you have chosen God and dedicated my life to him again because I did fall off a little bit. I started to lose faith and I had to catch on. I just wanted to thank everyone who’s been pushing me without even knowing me. God bless you all. Have a great day and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Brilliance & Sienna
3. If they complimented each other, what would they say? Not to sound like a lesbian, but Brilliance thinks Sienna hung the moon. She’s so beyond smitten with this woman, and if anyone makes the mistake of asking her about her fiancée (which her party would never do because they’re a) hets who b) don’t care about rp) Brilliance would easily be able to spend hours talking about everything that makes Sienna the absolutely amazing woman she is. Brilliance admires Sienna’s patience, her quiet determination to get things done right, and her easy, calming presence. She’s compassionate and honest, and she makes the people around her want to be better than they are without having to say a word. She’s beautiful, inside and out, and Brilliance thanks Sune every day that fate brought them together. And check this out! Sienna loves Brilliance just as much! They’re in love! Sienna admires how willing Brilliance is to take charge in difficult situations, and that her primary concern when taking charge is making sure the people under her are safe. She’s intentional and unwavering in her resolve and devotion to the people she loves. Sienna loves how Brilliance is able to find beauty in just about anything, and how fiercely she’ll fight to protect the light and beauty she sees in the world. She loves her insistence on giving people second chances, even when they may not deserve it. Brilliance embodies the phrase “get behind me”, and while Sienna often wishes Brilliance would let her share that burden, she understands that Brilliance does what she does to show love.  10. Write a ~300 word argument scene for them.  It’s been three days since Conviction’s death. Since they found his body at least; he’d been missing longer than that. It was murder, anyone could see that, but no one has any delusions about it being investigated as one, let alone prosecuted. He shouldn’t have been involved with those rebels, people say. It’s his own fault for stirring up trouble where there didn’t need to be any. There’s been multiple times where Sienna’s quiet touch to Brilliance’s arm has been the only thing to keep her from lashing out at someone who implied that and while she’s grateful for the temperance, part of her can’t help feeling that grief hardened by anger might hurt less.  It’s been three days since they pulled her brother’s body out of the sewers, and Brilliance knows she needs to go home. Her mother is devastated, her father considers his obligation to help fulfilled by paying for the funeral, and as loathe as she is to return to her childhood home Brilliance knows it’s her duty to be there. Sienna comes back to their tiny (Sienna calls it cozy to make Brilliance laugh), dingy (”lived in!” she insists) apartment to find Brilliance packing, and the pity in her gaze makes Brilliance tugs her arm free when Sienna reaches out for her.  “I have to,” Brilliance says, resolutely keeping her focus on the suitcase laid out in front of her. “Sienna, my heart, I have to. My mother--” Sienna reaches out to cup Brilliance’s cheek, to tilt her face toward her. Brilliance, though reluctant, allows it. “Your mother,” Sienna chides gently, “is a grown woman, who is welcome to stay with us. We’ll make room. But starlight, you don’t need to be in that house. Not ever again, and certainly not right now. Stop for a minute, sit down, we can talk about this...” The conversation begins to unravel from there. Sienna is right; her father’s house is the worst place for Brilliance to be to grieve. Brilliance is right; Sienna is an only child, who lost her mother when she was young. She has no context to understand what Brilliance is going through. Neither of them raise their voice, but there’s an edge to their words that normally has no place in their home. Brilliance gets frustrated, feels herself start to get angry, and she makes the decision to walk away and cool down. She comes back to find Sienna asleep or feigning it, back to the door in a way that feels pointed. At that point it’s well after midnight, and Brilliance doesn’t know what to do about the conversation she’d walked out of. Eventually she goes to bed as well, facing the door, sleeping further from Sienna than she has since they moved in together. She knows better than to go to bed angry, but right now Brilliance can’t stomach the thought of reigniting their argument again that night. She closes her eyes, and hopes they can work things out in the morning before Brilliance leaves for home. 19. If they could each write a single line in their marriage vows, what would they be? Brilliance: You are my peace, my joy, my steadfast foundation; my world is better for having you in it, and I will work for the rest of my life to make sure you can always say the same. Sienna: Whatever I did to earn it, thank you, starlight, for trusting me with you heart; it is my privilege and my honor to be for you what you are to so many others. 31. What do they love to do after sex? Probably, like. Kiss a bunch? Ew!!  But like honestly? Yeah! I think they’re a Big fan of soft, sleepy morning sex, especially on days where Brilliance isn’t needed at the church until the evening and Sienna has the day off. Why not indulge on those days when you can doze off again for a little while, with your beloved asleep on your chest? Brilliance is running her fingers through Sienna’s hair and pressing the occasional kiss to the top of her head, Sienna is tracing absentminded shapes against Brilliance’s collarbone, and they’re just enjoying being warm and sleepy and together with no prospect of that changing anytime soon.
Raini & Ecstasy
1. What are things they both find funny? I’m gonna take a shot in the dark and say. Shitty people’s misfortune? Not necessarily objectively shitty people, just people they’ve decided they don’t like. Ecstasy telling a story about the dumbass fantasy customs agent she “tricked” (because tricked is a strong word, really. It wasn’t all that hard, and that’s what makes it So funny) into marking her ship with its cargo full of stolen goods and also probably like fantasy weed as “clean” to enter some city? Hilarious. Raini talking about casting Mage Hand under the table at some stuffy negotiations and pulling just hard enough on the chair leg of the asshole who’s already leaning back further than he should be and sending him crashing out of his chair? Fucking hysterical. They’re assholes, but they’re assholes together. And, at the end of the day, that’s what matters! 14. What would be a dealbreaker? At risk of sounding too predictable, for Raini it would have to be something along the lines of finding out that Ecstasy is and has been seeing someone else seriously while they’ve been together together. It’s one thing to sleep around a little when you’re still just a booty call, or even to meet someone pretty and check with your partner that they’re okay with you having a one night stand. If you’re communicating, and everyone involved is okay with it, that’s fine! However, it’s another thing entirely to find out that you’ve been playing second fiddle in terms of your long term girlfriend’s affection for god knows how long. Honestly, I’m not sure Ecstasy would survive an argument started by Raini finding something like that out. I won’t speak too much on Ecstasy’s dealbreaker so I don’t overstep or guess Wrong, but I feel like if we hadn’t gotten our memories back things would have eventually fallen apart. I don’t know if I think there would have been some big climactic fight to end things so much as a sort of just... fading away? A heartbreaking parallel to how slowly they’d entangled themselves in each other’s lives before, and really? Who could blame Ecstasy for pulling away from a situation like that. And without the memories and the context to know why it hurts so much now that things are different, I don’t know if Raini would have gone chasing after her.  23. Write a ~300 scene between them with no dialogue, only body language. They’re supposed to be keeping an eye out for some diplomat, Raini thinks. It’s some trouble about wanting to make sure he hadn’t been intimidated into feeding information or supplies to some foreign power, potentially by doing some intimidating themselves. It seemed important at the time, when they made plans to secure invitations to a ball they’d knew he’d be attending. It had seemed important when she’d stayed up the night before sewing hidden pockets into the folds of the dress she’d be wearing so that she would have some way of smuggling spell components in with her. In fact, it had seemed important up until Raini looked up toward the source of commotion across the ballroom and found herself staring at a tiefling who had absolutely no right to be here. She’s wearing a starch pressed naval uniform -admiral, at least, and almost certainly stolen- that looks like it was made for her, golden buttons and unearned medals gleaming in the candlelight, boots that hug her calves like it’s their damn job, head thrown back as she laughs at something she said-- Raini’s eyes widen then narrow, shocked then indignant that this criminal had the gall to show her face here. They make eye contact seconds later and Raini scoffs at the way the pirate’s eyebrows shoot up at the sight of her. And then she has the audacity to wave? A lazy, two fingered acknowledgement that has Raini glaring daggers in return and setting aside the champagne she’d picked up so that she can stalk across the room to give the pirate a piece of her mind. The pirate seems to have the same thought, and excuses herself from the conversation she’d been having to intercept Raini halfway.  Her cocksure grin has only widened by the time their paths collide, and she effortless cuts off the scathing diatribe Raini had at the ready by extending her hand as an invitation to dance, and raising an eyebrow as a challenge to refuse. Raini, at a loss for words for one of the first times in her life, huffs and crosses her arms, turning up her nose in disdain. The audacity! The gall! The sheer impudence, it’s- It’s staggering. ...still. Raini’s eyes cut back to the fit of the pirate’s stolen uniform, to the shine of its gilding and her buffed leather boots, to the way she holds herself with the confidence that she has every right to be here and every expectation Raini will agree to dance. It’s absolutely infuriating; it’s the hottest thing Raini’s ever seen in her life.  The pirate’s hand is warm when Raini takes it, and the hand that settles low on her waist is even more so. The hand that slips around to the small of her back when the song finishes, turning her toward the open glass doors that lead out to a well-manicured, dimly lit garden sets a similar heat burning across her cheeks, and the hands that lay her out in a dark corner of the garden and creep up her thighs under the hem of her dress are a searing, white hot. 26. What are their favorite parts about physical affection/sex? Raini enjoys the chase! The flirting, the banter, the circling around one another and drawing each other in inch by inch until one of you caves and makes the first move. She loves feeling eyes on her back even though she acts like she doesn’t notice, loves feeling her own pulse begin to race and knowing that across from her Ecstasy’s is doing the same. She loves watching the edges of Ecstasy’s grin go sharp, watching her tail lash against the floor, while all the while she’s carrying on their conversation like nothing has changed. She loves the way her robes start to feel too hot, too heavy, and the way Ecstasy’s gaze tracks her movements as she reaches up to pull the collar open just a bit wider. The brush of a hand on her waist when the tension becomes too much, a silent order to follow to somewhere more private so you can both make good on everything your flirting promised. The sex is good, without question. But the build up? The anticipation? The Showmanship? That’s how you get repeat customers!  She also loves getting her pussy ate to the point that her thighs tremble and resent having to hold her up afterward, but really who wouldn’t? Nothing hotter than your sexy pirate girlfriend fucking you senseless then coming up for air, face wet from nose to chin, wearing an absolutely shit eating grin.

Please take time to self care for yourself first so you can be an adult that can have a calm conversation [7:50 PM] Xzfgiiimtsath: and you also fantasize about r*ping animals so again: 0 hope for you to have any concept of why things are wrong [7:50 PM] Xzfgiiimtsath: total fucking human garbage [7:50 PM] Xzfgiiimtsath: [8:05 PM] Ill: I am going to go step away before I address this further, I am losing some patience very quickly. I am kindly asking you to do the same so that you may take time to care for yourself during this clearly highly emotional state you are in. Maybe sip some cool water, dab your cheeks with ice, and/or take a moment with a loved one that makes you feel safe. I do not know what else to recommend here, I do not assume ignorance right away when meeting people, and I would like to think that other people can also step back to rationalize themselves down from tensions like these. I call this being an adult, growing up enough to get beyond yelling and throwing every accusation at someone simply because you’re angry. Accepting that it could be possible there is a grave misunderstanding, or maybe even misinterpretation of intent/meaning. As a person that never gets these opportunities to rationalize issues away from pure misunderstood hatred, I have never seen the actual outcome. In the adult world here, if we are angry with someone that offended us, we can’t just go into their family bbq and be screaming like lunatics about how their goat fuckers based solely on our interpretations, either. That would lead to calling the police... it doesn’t get you anywhere ... not in the adult world. You need to stop and care for yourself before you come guns blazing. You don’t DO this in the adult world and then call the adults staring at you like a tantruming toddler “children” because they won’t feed your anger. I’m sorry, for whatever it is you feel WE did to you specifically. You came here, though and whatever your assumptions are, I understand that there is no arguing with you or reasoning with you beyond you are the victim of some unproven atrocity.

The Weekend Warrior January 31, 2020 – THE TRAITOR, THE RHYTHM SECTION, GRETEL AND HANSEL, OSCAR-NOMINATED SHORTS
Last week was fairly pitiful, relly, but that doesn’t mean this weekend is gonna be much better. At least Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen exceeded my original expectations despite its fairly moderate theater count, and Universal’s The Turning is the studio’s latest horror film to bomb as 1917 continues to do well-deserved big business, crossing the $100 million mark. Actually, most of the movies this past weekend got a nice bump on Saturday, possibly due to the crappy weather across the country. This weekend won’t be so lucky.
Tumblr media
Before I get to the wide releases, only one of which I’ll have seen by the time you read this, I want to instead draw attention to one of this week’s limited releases. Marco Bellochio’s THE TRAITOR (Sony Pictures Classics) was Italy’s selection for the Oscars and deservedly so, but it wasn’t even shortlisted in the new “International Film” category, which is a real shame. It stars Pierfrancesco Favino as Tomassso Buscetta, part of the notorious Palermo-based Casa Nostra crime family, responsible for much of the heroin trade in the early ‘80s. After Buscetta flees to Brazil with his wife (Maria Fernanda Candido) and large family in 1981, he’s eventually arrested by the Brazilian authorities and deported back to Palermo where he turns informer and works with Judge Giovanni Falcone (Fausto Alessi) to try to take out the Sicilian mob family.
I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing this film is, even if you go in cynically believing you already know everything about the so-called “MAFIA” from watching Goodfellas or “The Godfather” movies. You can tell that Bellochio really did his research into the life of Buscetta, and then had the wise move of hiring Favino (who I met on the set of Disney’s Prince Caspian, of all things!). Favino embodies Buscetta in a way similar to Edgar Rodriguez in Olivier Assayas’ Carlos, as the film covers almost three decades of his life, much of it in paranoia for turning on his criminal brothers.
The movie has a few lulls, most notably during the lengthy courtroom/trial scenes that are unlike anything you’ll ever have seen before or after – they’re complete madhouses – but the movie also delivers in quieter dialogue scenes, particularly those between Favino and Alesi. It’s amazing to think that someone responsible for so many deaths, both by his own hand and by heroin addiction, could be turned into a bonafide hero, but it’s hard to deny how brave Buscetta must have been for being involved with the takedown of the Casa Nostra for over a decade.
Bellachio has made a film that’s on par and sometimes even better than Scorsese’s The Irishman, and he does that in an hour less, too!  Seriously, if you’re into crime films and want to know more about the reality of how the authorities deal with it, The Traitor is a must-see. It opens at the Film Forum and Lincoln Center in New York on Friday as well as The Landmark in L.A.
Now back to our regularly-scheduled program…
Tumblr media
This week’s wide offerings don’t seem particularly strong with Blake Lively starring in the political thriller THE RHYTHM SECTION (Paramount), along with Jude Law. Directed by Reed Morano, I wasn’t able to figure out what the movie was about from the trailer, but apparently, Lively plays a woman trying to get revenge on those who caused the plane crash that killed her family. Really, I don’t know much more about this movie except that it was supposed to come out last year sometime before being moved to this weekend in January, which may end up being a better slot for it, that is, if anyone cares to see Lively in this kind of role. But since I have seen it, here’s my review…
Mini-Review: I’ve never really been a huge Blake Lively fan, but it’s impossible to deny her talents as you watch her playing a glammed-down junkie-hooker who transforms herself into a hired assassin. I’m not sure there are many other actors in Hollywood who could pull off such a role in what’s a pretty decent “Bourne”-inspired revenge thriller. (The irony is that the movie is produced by EON, the producers behind the Bond movies, something that could be credited for achieving ssthe movie’s world-spanning storytelling.)
Lively plays Stephanie Patrick, a woman whose parents and siblings died in a plane explosion. There years later, she still feels responsible since she didn’t get on the plane with them, and she’s hit rock bottom until a journalist (Raza Jeffrey) finds her to tell her that the crash wasn’t an accident, instead a target of a terrorist bomber. Stephanie believes him enough to go with him but when he ends up dead, she goes looking for his mysterious source in Scotland, who turns out to be Jude Law, an ex-MI6 who trains her to kill, giving her information about the responsible terrorist ring, “U-17.”
It’s a fairly simple story, adapted by Mark Burnell from his own novel, but it’s also the type of story that could go horribly wrong – see Jennifer Garner’s Peppermint for proof. A lot of credit has to be given to filmmaker Reed Morano, who gives The Rhythm Section such a distinctive look and tone without ever losing sight of the tension needed for a movie like this to work.
The movie does start out a bit slow, so it requires a bit of patience until Law shows up, and there’s some fun interaction there, but it’s definitely more of a drama than it is an action movie, so you should go in with that in mind. After being trained, the film starts following Stephanie, as she takes the guise of a dead assassin and dons different looks to go on her deadly missions. Sterling K. Brown also brings a lot to the film as another one of Stephanie’s contacts.
Ultimately, The Rhythm Section is a better movie than many will be expecting, a solid political thriller that isn’t the thing we normally get from a wide studio release in January. The pacing and some of the artier choices by Morano might not make it the most accessible film to everyone, but there’s no denying how it effectively pulls you in with the story and Lively’s performance.
Rating: 7/10
If that isn’t your cup of tea, there’s also the horror-fantasy GRETEL AND HANSEL (U.A. Releasing), directed by Oz Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter) and starring It’s Sophia Lillis in a decidedly different horror role, but obviously, she gets the top billing in this take on the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale, which I’m not 100% sure will be screened for critics. (At least I wasn’t invited to see it, so what else is new?) I can see how this might interest people more than last week’s The Turning, but it just doesn’t feel like that many people will feel the need to go to the movies.
Oh, it’s also Super Bowl weekend. I literally have no idea who is playing and I’ve made other plans Sunday night, but it always tends to affect box office business on Sunday due to the Super Bowl parties and the fact that people might want to sit at home and watch TV commercials and movie trailers rather than go to the actual movies. (Shrug emoji.) Either way, Sony lucks out with a third weekend at #1 for Bad Boys for Life, something that certainly wouldn’t happen in any other time of the year.
This week’s Top 10 should look something like this…
1. Bad Boys for Life (Sony) - $17 million -50%
2. 1917 (Universal) - $9.5 million -40% (up .2 million and one place)*
3. The Rhythm Section  (Paramount) - $9.3 million N/A (down .7 million and one place)*
4. Gretel and Hansel  (U.A. Releasing) - $7.6 million N/A (up .4 million)*
5. Dolittle  (Universal) - $6.7 million -45% (down .3 million)*
6. The Gentlemen (STXfilms) - $5.9 million -45% (up .3 million)*
7. Jumanji: The Next Level  (Sony) - $4.6 million -37% (down .2 million)*
8. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Lucasfilm/Disney) - $3 million -48%
9. The Turning  (Universal) - $2.8 million -60%
10. Little Women (Sony) - $2.5 million -45%
* UPDATE:  A few updated prediction based on actual theater counts including 1917 getting more theater this weekend that should help it retain second place over Black Lively’s The Rhythm Section. Also, Orion Pictures is pushing Gretel and Hansel into almost 3,000 theaters, so it should be good for fourth place unless Rhythm Section doesn’t click or connect with Lively’s fans.
LIMITED RELEASES
It’s always exciting (at least to me) when the annual OSCAR NOMINATED SHORT FILMS (ShortsTV) are released theatrically, since it gives everyone (at least in select cities) a chance to see all the shorts that were nominated,  and it gives you a little more chance to do well at your office Oscar poll.  This year’s selection has a much shorter run than usual, since the Oscars will be held on February 9, about ten days after the short films are made available, so don’t drag your feet on these. I rarely get to watch many shorts over the course of the year, unless I’ve been called to be a juror at a film festival, so it’s nice to at least get to see 15 shorts every year that are considered the best of the best.
Tumblr media
I tend to be most interested in the animated shorts, and besides the five nominees, this section will include a few “highly commended” films.  I’m pretty sure everyone who sees Matthew A. Cherry and Karen Rupert Toliver’s Hair Love is gonna love it, as it follows a young African-American girl’s attempts to tame her unruly afro with the help of her father. It’s such a wonderful short with a beautiful ending, and in my opinion, it’s also the best-looking of the nominees, maybe since it uses a more traditional animation style than the other films. I would be shocked if this doesn’t win the Oscar.
Kitbull, one of Disney’s Sparks Shorts involves the relationship between a cute black kitten and a pitbull, a nice wordless film in the Pixar vein. It’s too adorable not to be considered as a possible spoiler in this category. sThe French animated short Memorable from Bruno Collet deals with a painter suffering from dementia, and it uses a fairly unique stop-motion look and style.  On the other hand, I found the style used in the Czech film Daughter from Daria Kashcheeva to be rather jarring as it deals with the relationship between a father and daughter trying to heal, while the Chinese animated short Sister by Siqi Song actually deals with a similar topic as the fantastic short-listed docOne Child Nation, although it also uses a somewhat strange style. (Actually, I didn’t realize that Sister was stop motion, but I went to a dinner where I got to meet Ms. Song’s “actors.”)
The doc shorts tend to be the longest of the three groups with shorts ranging from 20 to 40 minutes, so these will often be broken up into two programs for viewing.

Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If you’re a Girl) clearly has the most self-explanatory title of the doc shorts, and it’s also the most likely to win, not only due to its memorable title but also the adorable little girls in bright-colored dresses who attend “Skateistan,” a school for girls who aren’t allowed to be outside due to Afghanistasn’s strict Muslim rules. (This is shown as part of Program A along with Life Overtakes Me.)
MTV’s St. Louis Superman, directed by Smriti Mundra and Sami Khan, is probably the most likely as a spoiler in this category, as it follows Ferguson activist and state rep Bruce Franks Jr. as he tries to fight back against gun violence both on the political floor and as a battle rapper.
The Korean doc In the Absence documents a horrifying ferry accident that kills hundreds while the proper authorities drag their heels in saving people, while the Swedish doc Life Overtakes Me, directed by John Haptas and Kristein Samuelsons, deals with refugee children in Sweden who, in the grips of trauma, get an illness called Resignation Syndrome, so it’s also quite timely.
Lastly and definitely not least is Walk, Run, Cha-Cha, the New York Times doc short directed by Laura Nix (Inventing Tomorrow), that’s a beautiful story of a couple who were separated by the Vietnam War but reunited years later and are now dancing together in California. It’s a beautiful film and story that might not be as groundbreaking as some of the others but is still quite wonderful and romantic.
At least the live actions shorts are more consistent in their timing with movies between 15 and 25 minutes, but they also offer equally international offerings.
Tumblr media
The Neighbor’s Window is three-time Oscar-nominated documentarian Marshall Curry’s first narrative effort, and it deals with a Brooklyn couple with two kids who get neighbors across the street who seem to enjoy a bit of exhibitionist sex, making them feel older. It’s a nice dramatic short that allows Curry to use The National’s music once again. (As I learned when I interviewed himin 2010, he’s friends with singer Matt Beringer.) The film takes a sad turn towards the end, but it’s a fine foray into narrative filmmaking and also, a strong PSA about buying drapes.
Bryan Buckley’s Saria takes place at a Guatemalan orphanage for girls where the title character wants to escape with her older sister to America. It’s actually based on the true story of a fire at the Virgen de La Asuncion Safe Home in Guatemala that took 41 lives in 2017 but from the viewpoint of these young teenagers. The movie is not necessarily about the fire as that happens at its very end, though this is definitely my favorite short of this group, dealing with a lot of tough (but extremely timely) issues, so I honestly think it might win the Oscar in this category.
Oddly, there are two shorts that take place in Tunisia and involve shepherds (sort of) with Meryam Joobeur’s Brotherhood involving a father whose son Malik returns home from Syria with a new wife. I found this one to be pretty dull and not particularly worthwhile. Slightly better is Yves Piat’s Nefta Football Club, whichfollows two boys who find a mule carrying drugs. (That is, an actual mule, not a person acting as a mule.) It’s a decent short with a fairly comedic ending, but I don’t think it has much of a chance of winning either.
The Belgian short Une souer (translated as “A Sister,” not to be confused with the animated short Sister) by Delphine Girard involves a kidnapped who makes a phone call to an emergency service and tries to make her whereabouts known without giving it away to her assailant. It’s a pretty decent thriller that does a lot in a short amount of time (about 16 minutes), but I don’t see this as something that might win the Oscar.
You can catch the Oscar-Nominated Shorts in select cities starting today and then slightly wider starting Friday, and then they’ll be available via streaming next week on Tuesday, Feb. 4

Julia Garner from “Ozark” stars in Kitty Green’s THE ASSISTANT (Bleecker Street), a movie about a young woman named Jane, who is working as an assistant at a busy New York distributor/production house based in the Tribeca area that couldn’t possibly be referring to the Weinstein Company, could it? I had pretty high expectations for this film, having heard about it as far back as last year’s Sundance where it premiered, and yes, while it is extremely timely, the cinema verité method that Green uses to tell the story of Garner’s character doesn’t make for a particularly interesting movie other than a few interactions, like one with Matthew Macfadyen as the company’s HR person when Jane reports her worries about the boss’ actions (nothing done to her, mind you). I do like Garner as an actor though, and I can’t wait to see what else she does post-“Ozark.”
At least the next film put up by its country for the Oscars’ “International Film” category was shortlisted, but it’s nowhere near as good as The Traitor (in my opinion). The Russian Oscar selection, Kantemir Balagov’s BEANPOLE (Kino Lorber), starring Viktoria Miroshnichenko and Vasilisa Perelygina as nurses Iya and Masha, working at a veteran’s hospital in Leningrad shortly after World War II. Iya is an extremely tall, lanky blonde woman referred to as “Beanpole” (hence the title) who also has a condition where she’ll freeze up at the most ill-opportune times. She’s taking care of a young child, who most presume to be her son but is actually Masha’s illegitimate son.  The problem with this movie is that 20 minutes into it, something absolutely horrifying happens, and it just goes downhill from there. It’s not a bad movie but it’s one that’s really hard to watch, especially as Iya decides to do something to help her friend Masha, for reasons I don’t really want to spoil. Anyway, if you thought the sex scenes in the Brazilian offering Invisible Life were awkward and uncomfortable to watch, you haven’t seen a thing!
Hitting the Quad Cinema on Friday, the Laemle in L.A. on Feb 7 and other cities to follow is the Guatemalan film José (Outsider Pictures), directed by Li Cheng, and starring newcomer Enrique Salanic as the title character, a closeted gay man who lives with his mother in Guatemala City, surviving on selling sandwiches at bus stops. Unfortunately, Salanic was denied an entry visa, so he won’t be able to attend the film’s New York premiere, but Li Cheng will be doing QnAs at the Quad all weekend.
Also, Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite is getting a “black and white” release this weekend, because… well, who knows why anyone does anything anymore?
STREAMING AND CABLE
If you weren’t at Sundance, you can sit back, chillax and watch the Taylor Swift doc Miss Americana on Netflix (as well as in select theaters but who would want people to know that they’re a Taylor Swift fan? So just stay at home and watch it since Netflix won’t report its box office either way.) There’s also the new Norwegian superhero series Ragnarok, which launches its first season this Friday and that might be more my speed.
Hitting Disney+ this week is Jon Favreau’s The Lion King, which I still haven’t seen, as well as a few other movies. Also, Robert Rodriguez’s Alita: Battle Angel will debut on HBO this Saturday night, and “Veep” creator Armando Iannucci’s new series “Avenue 5” will premiere its pilot on HBO’s streaming platforms starting Friday.
REPERTORY
Before we get to the usual theaters, I’m thinking of adding a few new ones (well, not that new as they’ve been around for ages), for instance, the Anthology Film Archives, which is pretty much in my neck of the woods are having a series called “The Devil Probably: A Century of Satanic Panic” starting on Friday night, complete with an appearance by Lucien Greaves, spokesperson and co-founder of the Satanic Temple, who will hold a black mass ritual and give a lecture before showings of Benjamin Christensen’s Häxan and Penny Lane’s 2018 doc, Hail Satan? (which is about Greaves.)  Other movies in the series include The Black Cat (1934), The Seventh Victim (1943) and classic thrillers Rosemary’s Baby (1968) and Race with the Devil (1975), as well as Terrence Fisher’s The Devil Rides Out (1968). (This week, the AFA is also showing late founder Jonas Mekas’ 1962 film Guns of the Trees with other Mekas works at least through Thursday!)
NITEHAWK CINEMA  (NYC):
Okay, we might as well initiate another new addition, the Brooklyn theater with two locations, one in Williamsburg and the other in Prospect Park. The Williamsburg will be showing David Slade’s excellent 2005 film Hard Candy, starring Patrick Wilson and Ellen Page on Friday night as well as L.A. Story, starring Steve Martin and Daryl Hannah on Saturday and Sunday. On Thursday night, Prospect Park will screen Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining(1980) but mostly will be focused on new films.
Now back to our regularly-scheduled rep theaters, including my personal fave…
METROGRAPH (NYC):
The Metrograph is beginning a theatrical run of a 35mm print of Martin Scorsese’s 1977 film New York, New York, starring Bobby De Niro and Liza Minelli, and while it’s the closest thing to a musical Scorsese has directed, it acts more as a biopic for the writing of the classic song, “New York, New York”… kinda. This was not my favorite movie when I first saw it in theaters as a kid, and it hasn’t improved that much with age although this is a great era for Minelli, just a few short years after she won the Oscar for Cabaret. (That was one of the main reasons I saw it when it first hit theaters.) It also should be of interest to those who want to see De Niro when he was young enough to look like his de-aged self in his latest collaboration with Scorsese in The Irishman. But if you thought that movie was long then this movie’s 2 ½ hour run-time is also a killer.
I was pretty thrilled this last weekend to see so many young people enjoying the movies of Hal Hartleyat the Metrograph’s retrospective, and this weekend, it will continue with Hartley’s best-known trilogy starting in 1997 with Henry Fool, which was followed up with Fay Grim (2006)(which I wasn’t a big fan of) and 2014’s Ned Rifle(which I never saw). This weekend will also see Hartley’s The Girl from Monday (2005) and a number of shorter films.
Another series starting Friday is To Hong Kong with Love, for the theater’s continued Lunar New Year, celebration, which runs through the month of February. This weekend we get Peter Chan’s Comrades: Almost a Love Story from 1996 and Christopher Doyle’s Hong Kong Trilogy from 2015.Welcome To Metrograph: Reduxcontinues on Thursday with another screening of Edward Yang’s 1991 film A Brighter Summer Day.  On Saturday night, the Safdies are presenting a screening of Adam Sandler’s The Wedding Singer from 1998.
This week’s Late Nites at Metrographis Brian de Palma’s Scarface (1983), starring the one and only Al Pacino! Also, THIS WEEKEND, Playtime: Family Matinees  is showing Taika Waititi’s excellent 2016 film Hunt for the Wilderpeople on Saturday and Sunday morning, so I expect to see you all there, at least on Saturday, which is when I’m attendings.
ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE BROOKLYN (NYC)

Next Tuesday, the Alamo is showing Michael Haneke’s 2002 film The Piano Teacher, starring Isabelle Huppert, and then “Terror Tuesday” is the 1977 horror film, The Sentinel. (Apparently, the Anthology isn’t the only New York theater on a satanic kick.) Next week’s “Weird Wednesday” is the “Lone Wolf and Cub” classic Shogun Assassin from 1980. (There will be two showings… one at 7pm and another at 9:30!) Also, on Monday, you’ll have another chance to see Takashi Miike’s Audition (1999), although that’s also almost sold out.
THE NEW BEVERLY (L.A.):
Weds’ afternoon classic is Sidney Lumet’s 1976 classic Network, and then Weds and Thurs. nights, you can see a triple feature of Orca (1977), Nightwing (1979) and the horror film Prophecy (1979),which is a pretty amazing trilogy. Friday’s “Afternoon Classics” is Friday the 13thPart V: A New Beginningfrom 1985. This weekend’s Film Forum Jr is The Incredible Shrinking Man from 1957 in a 4k restoration.
EGYPTIAN THEATRE (LA):

Cinematic Void 2020 continues this weekend with the Giallo film Strange Shadows in an Empty Room (1977) on Friday, then Joe Dante’s 16mm spotlight screens This Is Not a Test (1962) on Saturday, and then the Marx Brothers comedy Horse Feathers shows on Sunday in 35mm, and then that afternoon, they’ll screen Putney Swope, the 1969 film directed by Robert Downey Sr. and My Dinner with André (1981).

Saturday is a “Ford vs. Spielberg Double Feature” of The Searchers (1956) and Saving Private Ryan (1998). Sunday is a suitably-timed “Super Dust Bowl Double Feature” of Ford’s The Grapes of Wrath (1940) with 1942’s The Ox-Bow Incident.
MOMA  (NYC):
This week’s Modern Matinees: Jack Lemmonare Glengarry Glenn Ross (1992) on Weds, Costa-Gravas’ Missing (1982) on Thursday and the 1995 film The Grass Harp. FILM AT LINCOLN CENTER (NYC):
Milos Foreman’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975) will screen on Thursday as part of FilmLinc’s New Wave event for new members in their 20s and 30s. Oh, you young people get all the good stuff and yet, you still complain about everything. What’s up with that?
IFC CENTER (NYC)
Waverly Midnights: Hindsight is 2020s is James Cameron’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day yet oddly, the other two ongoing series are taking off this weekend. I wonder why. Or maybe they’re just showing some of the same-old-same-old like The Shining, Suspiriaand  reshow of Cuaron’s Children of Men. (Plus they’re showing the Oscar-nominated shorts and other Oscar nominees in many theaters.)
MUSEUM OF THE MOVING IMAGE (NYC):
In conjunction with its 2001: A Space Odysseyexhibition, MOMI has a series called “Influencing the Odyssey: Films that Inspired Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke,” this weekend showing Metropolis (1927), Forbidden Planet (1956), The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) and Ikarie XB1 (1963). 2001: A Space Odyssey will also screen again on Saturday.
ROXY CINEMA (NYC)
This week’s Nicolas Cage offering on Weds is 2002’s Windtalkers, which I remember liking even though it’s probably not good. They’re also showing Cage’s Gone in 50 Seconds remake (co-starring Angelina Jolie) on Thursday.
LANDMARK THEATRES NUART  (LA):
Ooo… this Friday night’s midnight screening is a good one, one of my favorite movies of the last decade,Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010), starring Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (who is also in next week’s wide release)!
Next week, Margot Robbie stars in Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn, and honestly, that might be one of only two or maybe three times I type out that annoyingly-long impossible-to-remember title!

2: If you could meet anyone on this earth, who would it be?
I…don’t know. I’m really not that into meeting ‘idols’ or anything. I guess it’d be pretty cool to meet Kaitlyn Alexander but honestly I’m not sure the anxiety would be worth it.

Multiple smh. This one girl once spread a rumor I was a lesbian and I was gay for her (before I even came out) and tbh she’d have been lucky. (She was kinda obsessed with me, she was probs suppressing something). It did kinda ruin my confidence though because of all the reactions so I didn’t come out for another 2 years.
50: Do you believe in magic?
I don’t know what to believe anymore, but I’m kind of open to learning more about it.
51: Do you tend to hold grudges against people who have done you wrong?

Errrm, sort of? I try to make an effort, so that’d be nice. But I’m so quiet and shy sometimes that if I was friends with myself we’d probably never talk lmao
71: You are walking down the street on your way to work. There is a dog drowning in the canal on the side of the street. Your boss has told you if you are late one more time you get fired. What do you do?
Save the dog, no doubt about it. If my boss is that much of a dick I’ll probably lose my job sooner or later, so I might as well lose it helping out a doggo.
72: You are at the doctor’s office and she has just informed you that you have approximately one month to live. a) Do you tell anyone/everyone you are going to die? b) What do you do with your remaining days? c) Would you be afraid?
a) I’d tell the people closest to me, but maybe not straight away depending on how I thought they’d react.
b) I’d probably blow my saving and go travelling. I mean, what else is there to do? Oh and finish bingewatching all my shows at that time bc dying on a cliffhanger would really piss me off.
c) Maybe a little? Just because once you die you’re alone with whatever the hell comes after (pun not intended).

Just like, having someone you can chill with and open up to. Someone where you don’t have to care about embarrassing yourself with or worry about constantly because you trust them. Just like, a super cool friendship but with kissing.
77: How can I win your heart?
Don’t be afraid to be yourself I guess. I love interesting people that don’t pretend to be someone else. Also interesting people with swords.
78: Can insanity bring on more creativity?
Who am I to answer that? Idk, I suppose yeah.

89: What would be a question you’d be afraid to tell the truth on?
The third question in my inbox rn lmao
90: One night you wake up because you heard a noise. You turn on the light to find that you are surrounded by MUMMIES. The mummies aren’t really doing anything, they’re just standing around your bed. What do you do?
(I was so tempted to say “ask if they prefer being the big or little spoon” why am I like this)
Idk id probs strike up a convo whilst looking around the room for the best weapon just in case.
91: You accidentally eat some radioactive vegetables. They were good, and what’s even cooler is that they endow you with the super-power of your choice! What is that power?
Hmmm, I think mind reading would be useful but it might make my anxiety even worse! So that or teleportation.
92: You can re-live any point of time in your life. The time-span can only be a half-hour, though. What half-hour of your past would you like to experience again?
Any half hour when I wasn’t stressed about exams lmao (bonus if the weather was good)
93: You can erase any horrible experience from your past. What will it be?
A guy did something that I wish he hadn’t and I’m still fucked up by it sooo that.
94: You have the opportunity to sleep with the music-celebrity of your choice. Who would it be?
I honestly don’t know, it’s not something I’ve thought about with “music-celebrities” lmao
Edit: Hold up I’ve just remembered Halsey exists.
95: You just got a free plane ticket to anywhere. You have to depart right now. Where are you gonna go?
The place I’m going in 9 dayyys!! (Or Copenhagen)
96: Do you have any relatives in jail?
Not that I know of.
97: Have you ever thrown up in the car?
When I was really little and hopefully never again
98: Ever been on a plane?
Yup a couple of times
99: If the whole world were listening to you right now, what would you say?
For fucks sake can’t you all just educate yourselves and get along? Stop. Killing. Each. Other.

Zechariah 10:1-11:17, Revelation 18:1-24, Psalms 146:1-10, Proverbs 30:33
Today is the 27th day of December welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I'm Brian it is a joy and an honor to be here with you today as we greet a brand-new week. And we probably are all aware that before this week is over, we’ll be greeting and entering a brand-new year. So, this is the last time friends that we get to reach out together and twist that knob and throw open the door and walk through the threshold of a brand-new sparkly new week for this year because we are entering the last week of this year. Including today we have five days left together in this year, which will bring us to the conclusion of our year of course but will bring us to the conclusion of the Bible. And, so, I get to this point every year and start feeling a little bit melancholy just a little bit of sadness is there behind it all. I know that we’ll just start a new year, this never ends. But I just feel it. And, so, I’m feeling it. I’m feeling it and honoring it. I'll never forget this year. And, so, let's…let's press in. Let’s not like fadeaway - it's Christmas we’re exhausted now we gotta take all of these…these decorations down and all these stuff to do and try to find the flow and get back into the rhythm and think about the new year and make some New Year's resolutions we got a lot to do. Let’s not just fadeaway. We talked about this. We talked about this back in October before anything got busy. We talked about finishing well, and we realized that to finish the next year strong we need to finish what we’re doing now well and thoroughly. And, so, let's press in. This final week of the year we will read from the New Living Translation. Zechariah chapters 10 and 11 today.
Prayer:
Father, we thank You for Your word. We thank You for bringing us into this shiny sparkly new week. It is another week of joy and celebration because we will be transitioning into a new year. And, so, Father as we move forward because we can't start moving backward days and live our lives in reverse all the way back to the beginning of this year. We can only move forward. And, so, we are here considering this past year and we will be considering this past year for the next several days. This is sort of the natural flow of things. Christmas is over, our hearts are beginning to move forward toward the new year, and we begin to think about the things that need to be changed. And, so, we are looking into Your word for counsel, we are looking into our lives for reality, we are looking to Your Holy Spirit, who is often counterintuitive, for the truth. Where You will lead, we will go. We just need to know where You're going and where You are leading, which requires that we be vigilant and aware and paying attention. So, we were told in the Proverbs today, again, similar things we were told yesterday. Yes, You beat cream You get butter. Yes, You strike the nose You get bleeding. So, then, yes, if You stir up anger, that's gonna cause quarrels. And, so, we’re left Your wondering, do we want more that? Like, is that the goal? Is…is the new year designed for more conflict for more division for more quarreling in the world in our nations in our local regions in our cities in our communities in our homes? The answers probably that we would prefer less conflict. That seems to be the natural desire. And, so, we’re told very clearly by the voice of wisdom who has counseled us all year long, if You stir up anger and You're gonna get quarrels. So, Father, Holy Spirit, come, let us not be stirring that pot. May we take our ladle out of that pot and put it over in a brand-new pot, one that is simmering peace, joy, long-suffering, kindness, all of the fruits of the spirit. Come Jesus we pray into all of this we ask in Your precious name. Amen.
Announcements:
dailyaudiobible.com is home base, it's where you find out what's going on around here. And I guess all things going on around here are aiming us toward these last few days of the year.
This voyage that we have been on, it's coming, it's coming to its conclusion and we can see the harbor. Like we've sailed all the way across the year and it's been stormy seas and we made it. We made it safely and we’re gonna dock in a few days having completed the entire Bible together, having completed an entire year of life together in community. And, so, that's what's going on around here.
Of course, additionally most of us are thinking about what the next year might look like and we have this new word that we’re going to live into as we look into the Scriptures in the new year, “Mend”. It’s time. It’s time to heal. Yeah, this…this has been a hard year, but, you know for some of us it’s been a hard decade or a hard life. There's always challenge, there's always difficulties, things are hard but it's time to mend. And mend is something that we have to allow to happen in us, but it's also something we have to participate in. And we’ll see. We’ll see it happen in the Scriptures. We’ll be challenged to take steps in our lives. But, yeah, this is what we’re gonna focus on. This is what the new year is going to bring, a time to mend. And, so, very, very much looking forward to that as we…you know…we get to December 31st and it really is the end of the journey, it’s just that another journey begins the next day. And it's not…I mean we start over but it's not starting over it's moving forward. What the Scriptures are gonna look like in the next year in the year 2021 will be different than what it looked like in 2020. That's just how it is. The Bible is just…it speaks to the heart, it speaks to the motives, to the why of things, to the story beneath it all, to the plot. And, so, it is always a relevant thing because we are all…we like…we do things because we are motivated by something to…to act. And sometimes those are colossal mistakes and sometimes they’re wonderful victories. And as we walk the path of wisdom…well…we can stack things in our favor I guess. We can…we can simply live true. We can simply be who we were made to be. We can be wise about what we decide to do and where we allow our heart to be taken. And, so, I’m really really looking forward to that. It's…it's funny because we’re counting down these days but let's finish well. Let’s not get into the new year before we’re in it. We can make some plans. We can have some goals. We can have agendas. We can think about what we want to do or become, but we do that first by finishing what we started this year. And in these coming days, we will reach the conclusion of the Bible and all of our badges in the app, as we finish all the different sections and complete the Scriptures together. All those things will go off and we’ll see that we've accomplished something, we've accomplished a journey through life and a journey through the Bible. And, so, yeah, that's kind of what’s going on around here.
If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible in these last days of the year, if it's mattered this year then thank you for your partnership. There is a link on the homepage. Community Prayer and Praise:
Hi DAB family this is Nobody Gets Left Behind in Colorado. I just wanted to give a quick shout out to Grandpa Bob, Walta the Burning Bush, my sister in California, John from Bethlehem. I just want to thank you all for praying for my daughter Halo. And I wanted to give a shout out to Val from Vegas. You made my day the other day with your call in on the 15th, brought tears to my eyes. Just love the excitement in your voice, it was just beautiful. I’m praying for Only Tony. This is just a short list of some of the people. I’m praying for Ron for the Philippines, Byron’s son Nehemiah, Rosie Great to be Free. I just love you guys and I love hearing your praise reports. So, praying is always a great thing to do especially when you get to hear all the things that God’s doing in your lives and I know He’s doing a lot in our lives and in our life and, you know, just gearing you guys pray for my daughter Halo was just beautiful and she just…it made her so happy to hear all of you. And I told her don’t call in just to hear yourself baby. Just you…you listen to what they’re telling you. You listen to the advice that they’re given you and you follow that advice. And, you know, she is praying for that little girl in her class. You know, just kind of rearranging her prayer to not be God change that person but God to fix all of the things that are happening in that person’s life that is making them broken. So, that was some great advice from all of you guys. I just love you all and I just have one little quick prayer. If you could pray for my brother Jeremy in prison. He’s been there for 18 years. Love you guys. Have a great day.
Hello Daily Audio Bible family this is Anonymous in Tulsa Oklahoma. I want you to know that I wish each of you, those who speak, those who work behind the scenes, those who just listen a blessed Christmas. This has been a difficult, strange, interesting, awesome, phenomenal, remarkable, different, in all of these ways year and we’re going into a new year with still this just carrying this load, but the thing is is we don’t have to carry it. We can shed it and place it in the Lord’s lap and let Him carry it while we walk along with Him on our path in life. This path is called the journey of life and that it’s not ours to walk alone. He always walks with us as long as we ask Him to. Christmas reminds me of that, that He came to this earth to walk along with us, to show us how to walk in servitude, in patience and kindness and forgiveness and in love. And I love each of you remarkably differently and in all different kinds of ways. Thank you for coming. Know that you’re being prayed for whether you’re here speaking, behind the scenes, or listening. Amen.

Please bless and Lord and give him strength to continue to care for her. Give him peace and understanding love. Lord God will lift us up in our process Jesus Christ name. Amen.
Hi Daily Audio Bible family it’s Faithful Hope in the UK and I have my daughter with me, Exuberant Emily. And we’re going to sing to you. What about me? O, and we’ve got Happy Hana as well. And we’re going to sing to you. Okay. We are? [singing starts] I love you and you love me where a happy family with a great big hug and a kiss for me to you don’t you know we love you too? [singing stops]
I feel impressed to pray for someone who was specifically tonight thinking of committing suicide. O God has just laid this on my heart. So, I lift up whoever this person is to You. Lord Jesus You see every single detail regarding that situation. And Lord God, I pray a hedge of protection around that person – spiritually, physically, mentally and emotionally Lord Jesus. I pray that You would give them hope where they feel so hopeless. Lord God may You give them a glimpse of life and their future could be with a clean slate that You give to us that You provide to us. Lord Jesus I pray God that You would give them just a vision of what it would be like to as they turn their eyes upon You look and look full in Your wonderful face. In Jesus’ name.

A Brief History of Social Media
As Researched by Steven Carki, UNI Class of ’56
Dated 24 November 2054
Sometimes it’s difficult to think back to the days of our grandparents, where social media was no more than a handwritten list of friends you could call on the telephone.  Now online social networks have been a part of our every day lives for nearly fifty years.  Clubhouse, the latest, greatest player in the game, just celebrated its twentieth birthday this past year.
Of course, social media didn’t always look the way it does today.  While myself and many of my peers were raised on Virtual Reality, our parents were raised in the era of screens, with VR no more than a new fad, a technology they knew had potential, but did not yet know to what end.
Thus, for my final presentation in Modern Anthropology, I would like to discuss the history of social media in the world.  Ideally, I would like to leave behind a transcript so that others may look back and remember where all this came from.
The first major surge in social media took place in the early ‘00s.  The first notable social media giant was a company called MySpace, which debuted in 2003 and remained the largest social networking site in the world until 2009.  Its replacement, Facebook, was founded one year later in 2004 and took the market by storm for the next couple decades.  Other giants include Twitter, founded 2006, and Instagram in 2010.
For the 2010s, these companies would rule the social media market, especially after the advent of the smart phone in 2007.  As the smartphone became more and more commonplace, social media apps became the go-to time-wasters on everybody’s glass devices, each with their own niche.  Facebook, much like Clubhouse today, provided a central hub for all friends, where you could like different pages, post status updates, keep photo albums, and make your own clubs and events.  Twitter’s interface prompted users to share short blurbs that their followers could scroll through.  Instagram was similar to Twitter, but for pictures only (Hartford, 2045).
As the ‘20s approached, however, the fall of the social media giants appeared imminent to those who kept their eyes open.  The influx of participants from the older generation on these applications signified the beginning of the decline.  What once appealed to the younger generations was adopted by their grandparents, seriously cutting down the cool factor of the software.  Though this trend was noticeable far earlier, the median age range of each company had grown to 46-52 by 2025 (Skaroff 2034).
In addition to the influx of older generations, privacy scandals started to plague the giants from the 2010s well into the ‘20s.  What started as companies selling user information for ad revenue evolved into much more suspect behavior, with rumors accusing the companies of everything from colluding to form a national registry to selling information to hackers under the table.
Regardless of who the information was sold to, the increasingly sophisticated methods each company used to pry into their users’ lives made their followers increasingly uncomfortable.  The result for social media companies was an immediate drop in reputation and a steady decline in market share as long-time users looked for more trustworthy alternative social media outlets.
Unfortunately for users, it was extremely difficult for any competing social media network to attain critical mass in the smartphone application market.  Even amidst the controversy, social media companies continued to innovate and improve their services at a rate that no others could keep up with.  Even with new features added to keep users on board, however, the companies continued to undermine their trustworthiness as they proceeded to sell their users’ information in creative new ways that inevitably made it above ground in due time.
Toward the end of the ‘20s, things were looking dire for the giants.  With the continued growth of virtual reality, everyone could feel a sea change coming.  To prepare for the new age, in 2027 each company decided, allegedly independently, to change their name, building what was later known as “The ’27 Club”.  One after one, each tried to become known as something new—“F,” “Birdie,” and “QuickPic”.
Suffice to say, the rebranding tactic left much to be desired.  Not only were users not fooled by the new branding, the new names were notably lamer than their predecessors.  Add to this the aging demographic of the giants’ user bases, and the companies seemed destined for irrelevance.
The companies held on for about four more years until each of them finally went bankrupt in the “Social Crash of ’31”.  It took a decade longer than many thought it should have, but people were finally done with the social media giants for good.  The disappearance of the giants left a huge hole in the social media market, which many new companies tried to fill.  The general populace, however, had apparently decided they were done, and refused to adopt any of the new players in the web-based social media market.  Technology users returned to a world of group and personal messages, forgoing the need to broadcast their lives for a time.
This period after the Social Crash of ’31 was known as “The Great Purification”.  Though the period of absolute social media abstinence lasted only three years, this time was generally viewed favorably by those who lived through it.  A generation was perceiving the world and relationships in a whole new way.  Like someone newly sober, there was an element of latent wonder in this new view, and many asked themselves why they didn’t get off the services sooner.
Even though many enjoyed their new perspective on the wagon, all it took was a new innovator for the great majority of consumers to fall off.  In 2034, nine years after the Lucid Mask redefined Virtual Reality into a major consumer market, a new social media craze was born out of a dorm room on New Idaho University’s campus.
The new mastermind was Nathan Habernick, a prodigious English Major in his junior year.  As he put it in a 2035 interview:
“I was always captivated by the worlds that authors and filmmakers would create.  I wanted to do the same.  For a while, I was just writing and writing, but that didn’t feel like quite enough.  And I didn’t necessarily have a huge interest in gaining mastery over some other medium.  I just wanted to make my own world and live in it.  So I was getting high with my friends one day—come on, it’s 2035 and you’re gonna look at me like I can’t say that?—I was stoned, alright, and I was wondering why there wasn’t yet any easy way to create your own environment in virtual reality.  And the applications that were out there just weren’t pushing it far enough.  I wanted to make my own world, and I wanted my friends to be able to hang out in it.  The market was ripe for a change.  So, anyway, that’s how the idea of Clubhouse was born.” (Habernick 2035)
Clubhouse was the disrupter that should have taken down the social media market, had the world not already been in the middle of The Great Purification.  Though it began humbly, Clubhouse scaled quickly, allowing users greater and greater freedom to build their own virtual space that their friends could enjoy with them.
Clubhouse eventually began to integrate all the features that the other social media giants had done before them.  Users could personalize their own “Bulletin Board” for view by anyone specified in their privacy settings.  “Walkie-Talkie” was added soon after launch as the native chat feature in the application.  Users could even host Virtual gatherings in each of their Clubhouses.
It wasn’t until 2037 that Clubhouse hit the mainstream with its AR integration, implemented into the second generation of Lucid Lenses.  Though the VR app was still popular, the AR implementation was much more useful day-to-day, leading to a surge in popularity similar to the one Facebook experienced when it expanded from desktop to mobile.
In addition to finding a comfortable home in the VR and AR market, Clubhouse made sure to avoid the downfall of its predecessors by brainstorming alternative streams of income to the sale of user data.  From the application’s launch, Habernick made sure to emphasize the importance they placed on the privacy of their users.  Instead of selling users’ information, Habernick set Clubhouse up with an eCommerce platform that allowed users to sell their own data, goods, and services.  By taking a small cut from each interaction, Clubhouse was able to sustain comfortable profits.  Though Clubhouse ads didn't start off quite as sophisticated as the social media companies of yesteryear, the surprisingly large amount of users that voluntarily sold their data allowed ad companies to attain approximately the same level of insight into their possible customer base, eventually netting Clubhouse notable ad revenue in addition to what they were gaining from eCommerce.
In 2054, at the time of this writing, Clubhouse remains the most profitable social media company on the market today.  Though it has grown over the years, its primary principles have remained the same, which has led to a user loyalty that was never present in the old, dead giants.
After proving there was a place for social media in the new era, it didn’t take long for other companies to follow in Clubhouse’s footsteps.  Many of these companies built their base on the new functionality allowed by AR technology.  For instance, Infrariend, est. 2024, when activated, allowed users to spot consenting Clubhouse friends from miles away through what resembled an infrared headset.  This technology came in handy for many AR games of the 21st century.
Another successful (though slightly more unnerving) company was Foot-Steps, founded in 2045.  Foot-Steps allows VR and AR users to sync up with their friends’ AR glasses, literally giving users the chance to walk in someone else’s shoes.  Oddly enough, even after the privacy scares of the ‘20s, consumers seemed to be willing once more to risk their privacy for the chance to try new technology.  Though there is no conclusive evidence that Foot-Steps is or isn’t spying on their users, it would appear that the trustworthy precedent set by Clubhouse has lulled users into a false sense of security when trying new applications.
As of 2054, no social media application has approached the current success of Clubhouse.  In fact, the social media market has remained relatively stagnant for the last decade or so.  The reputation of Clubhouse is certainly in better shape after 20 years than the giants’ had been.  For Clubhouse’s reign to be displaced in the future, it may be necessary for a disrupter in the tech market as a whole.  Just as AR replaced mobile, whatever the next step for mass human communication is will likely be the spot to see major competitors.
Until then, Clubhouse holds a proud monopoly over social media, and few seem to mind.  Habernick, in fact, has been guest teaching around a class a semester at UNI for the past five years or so.  If you ever happen to run into him on campus, you can feel proud that a fellow Okapi has changed the world.  We can only hope that the next disrupter comes from the same magical place.
