Bakugou has never, not ONCE, seen your face.

You work at his agency as his sidekick and yet he has no real idea what you look like. You’re documents are proved secure so you’re not a villain in disguise. And even so, he would’ve caught you acting suspisous by now. You just really don’t wanna show your face.

No one has seen your face in the agency. You walk around with a full face mask and suit like some spider-man wannabe and never take it off. Not even in the girls locker room! And oh, the female workers have tried to pry it off you.

As a little inside joke between the both of you, Katsuki offered a reward to anyone in the agency who could catch you without your mask on and tell him what you looked like.

They would hide in lockers and wait for you to take off your mask. They would be seething with excitment, practically hyperventilating. Then you would pull off the mask to reveal another mask.

This cracked Bakugou the hell up when he heard the gossip. The whole situation honestly only made his fondness for you stronger

This same procedure repeated a whole bunch of other time too. They would think they finally caught you then you would reveal another mask. One of them even tried sneak attacking you to rip the mask off. Only to reveal another mask.

The masks the multiplied while the amount of people trying divided until everyone gave up and there were about a hundred of your masks hanging around.

Of course, Bakugou was curious. Especially since during the 3 years of you being his annoying sidekick, he’d started to feel some unwanted love and attachment towards you. How was he supposed to ask you out if he didn’t know who he was asking out? Not that he cared what you looked like. Its just he wanted to know to feel… special.

He had managed to pry a bit of information about you along with sarcastic comments:

“Okay. Just answer my questions if you’re not gonna let me pull that damned mask off.”

Eventually he does see you outside of work but just as he suspected, he has absolutely no idea its you.

There was a villain attack happening and you were oblivious to it. Or more like you couldn’t afford to do something right now. You had forgotten your costume but thankfully you heard familiar explosions accompanied with the voice of Sero.

“Oh, they got this.” You mumbled as you continued to walk in the direction of your apartment. You took a bite out of a piece of the cheesecake you went all the way across town to get.

The deluctable flavor, and maybe your lack of care, stopped you from realizing a literal car was fly towards you. Honestly, you’d walk out pretty okay if it hit you, banged up but alive, and thats all you needed. You also overused your quirk yesterday and now you’re basically quirkless so there wasn’t really anything you could do without loosing your cheesecake and that was worth more than your life.

Just as you prepared for the car by taking another bite you were swooped up into warm arms. The stranger had flung himself and you into the air. You couldn’t bring yourself to even care cause YOU DROPPED YOUR FUCKING BAG OF CHEESECAKE.

You screamed at the man, it all came out muffled due to your mouthful.

The man whos arms you were in ignored you. He went to drop you off on top of the building you were standing under but you immediately jumped off.

I headcannon JD to be an Obsessive, Possessive, Violent and perhaps even a bit Manipulative and Delusional.

Obsessive in the way that its.. Well, It's JD! After a life of moving from place to place after his mothers death, He's become lonely. So when you come into his life, Willing to cure that ailment, JD is instantly all over you. He's not really obsessive about you, But the idea of you if that makes sense.

Possessive in the way that it ties into the last point, You're his only source of social interaction. You're his only friend and JD is not going to let anyone take you from him. You're HIS, Not anyone elses.

Violent in the way that JD get's absolutely livid if you do try to leave him. I mean, He tried to blow up westerburg for fucks sake! He's unstable and will get real volatile if you do try to get away.

Manipulative in the way that JD plays to your emotions. He'll make you feel guilty over the people he's killed, He'll make you feel like shit for trying to leave. Perhaps he'll even get you to assist in these murders, JD loves you but you must understand that this is just how he shows his love!

And Delusional in the way he believes that the entire world is against him, That it's all evil. But not you, You're an angel! You're the good in-between all the dirt, That's why he loves you so much! You can do no wrong in his eyes, Even if you do get a little bit confused sometimes..

I can see JD falling in love with you in a few ways.

The first is where you're an outcast like him, A social loner who doesn't really have anyone to talk to at break times. You're nice but you're quiet, Keeping to yourself.

I can see JD latching onto you after a single interaction. Maybe he drops something and you pick it up for him, Maybe you lend him a pen during class. Either way, It's the single domino to the catastrophe that will come later.

The second way is where you're popular, Really popular. So much so that you're part of the Heathers. Maybe you and Chandler have a history and that's why you're with them, But either way you follow beside her as one of the queen bee's in school.

But you're not mean, You're kind. Maybe you welcome JD into the school once he joins, Maybe you just say hello to him in the halls everyday. And this is enough for him, He becomes infatuated with you.

I'm going to go with the second option.

So you're a heather, You go to parties, You date, You do all the stuff a heather is expected to do. But it's not your style, You're only with them because Chandler was your friend growing up and you were hot enough to stay with her in the group.

But you make do. You're nice to everyone you meet, That's more your speed. You lead the student council, You organise school events and you make sure everyone has a good-time.

It's a good change of pace from all the stuff that comes with The Heathers. You have a decent life and it's future is looking pretty bright, With your good grades and status as the student council leader, You're destined to get into a good college.

Until JD turns up at the school.

It's pretty rare to get a student show up half-way through the year, And it'd be a pretty stressful time too. So you make sure to search him out and welcome him in here with open arms, You would've wanted that if you were in his scenario at least.

So you search him out, Helps that you and him share a class together. And before the bell rings, You find him early in his seat just getting ready for class.

And you walk up to him despite his rather cold demeanour, You introduce yourself to JD anyways and ask him how his first day was.

And JD is shocked.

Someone as pretty and popular like you greeting him? And in such a kind way? JD is at a loss for words, He's not usually welcomed with such warmth on account of his "bad-boy demeanour" and tendency to avoid crowds.

So when you welcome him to the school, Ask him how he's settling in. JD can't help but answer with a witty remark as an instant way to try strike up conversation.

And even though it doesn't last long due to the bell ringing and you needing to sit down and do your work, JD certainly can't take his mind or his eyes off of you. Looking at you more than the work in front of him.

He's the kind of yandere that gets interested fast, Not needing a second interaction to spike his interest. JD can already tell that you're perfect, An angel in your own right. He doesn't need any more confirmation.

Afterwards, Yeah, He's hooked!

After that, JD starts to follow you around just far enough so that you don't notice him. In school or out of it, He's just got to know more.

He eventually learns where you live after he follows you home one day. He learns what you like, Who your friends are. Your favourite flavour, If you have any pets or whether you drink coffee or tea.

Its all so perfect to him.

You start to find little gifts in your locker, Maybe a box of your favourite treats or even a flower that you're particularly fond of.

You of course, Being a heather means that you get a lot of attention from both guys and gals so receiving these things in your locker is not uncommon. Therefore you just go about your day, Maybe eating the treats of placing the flower in a pot.

JD begins to get violent, His tendencies starting to kick up. Anyone else that tries to ask you out, Anyone that you may sleep with, Anyone that you even just talk to gets a beat-down from the man himself.

I mean, How dare they try touch you? JD is by no means deserving of you and he knows it, But that doesn't mean everyone else is entitled either.

JD certainly tries to hang out in spots where you usually go just for the chance of seeing you, To maybe start another conversation with you.

By now you've definetly heard of what JD's been doing. Beating people up, The rumours spreading around about him. It freaks you out, Especially since a lot of the victims were your friends.

So you avoid him, Not wanting to anger him.

You know that JD is probably troubled. He's outcast with low social skills, He's joined the school half-way during the year and he's violent. You've heard the type and realise he probably has some home issues.

But you're not an adult, You're not professionally trained. You're just trying to get through high school, So you have no way to help him. It's not like you could get him any help, Westerberg is not known for it's counselling and you're not his friend so you don't think it's right of you to find him some.

JD for one, Is irked.

He doesn't deserve you in the slightest. Among the filth, The cruelty and the evil of the world you are the angel above them. JD is no better than everyone else, But he's certainly trying his best to get your attention.

He knows he'd be good for you, He knows he'd be the only one who'd be able to keep you away from all the dirt.

JD just wished you'd listen.

So he's gonna make sure you hear him now.

It's a completely normal morning, One day when you walk into school you're instantly bombarded with the news of a body being found in the ditch by the school.

You're horrified as you learn it to be one of the people you talk to often, Sometimes before and after class and within the hallways.

Its even worse to know that the body was mangled so viciously that the police suspected that it was a wild animal like a cougar that got to him, All before figuring out that it was a murder.

More victims pop up over the next few days, More and more bodies pile up. You're terrified, Horrified as they all were people you very much knew.

The next few weeks are tense and distrustful amongst the student body. You as the student council leader should know, As the majority of your school events have been closed due to safety reasons.

Somehow the school has been kept open despite all the victims being apart of their student body. Something about education reasons, You remember one of your teachers saying something about being too far into the school year.

People don't walk alone in the halls, Everyone looks behind their back. Everyone is suspicious of everyone, Mostly because nobody knows if the culprit is one of them.

Parties have started to die down. Not the crazy blow-out ones that you and the rest of the heathers go to, No, The people hosting them are too stupid to do so. But the ones with more common sense decide to just stop until all of this is over.

More and more bodies start to appear, One per week was the current rate. There have even been bets in your school to see who would be next, People rounding up the money. Its disgusting, It horrifies you.

Students have been instructed to walk home in groups. You comply as you walk home with Duke, Chandler and McNamara. You wanna stay safe, You wanna make sure you and your friends get home safe.

All until one day you enter your room, Greeting your parents at the door and going upstairs to your quarters. You only see that your bedroom window is cracked open before you hear the scream of a door slamming shut.

You near get whiplash from looking around so quick, Eyes widening as you stare dead at the face of JD standing in your room Blocking the door.

You can barely scream before he is on you, A hand covering your mouth while another snakes around your waist to form a twisted mockery of a lovers hold. All the while he tells you "It's just him!" "It's gonna be fine."

It certainly will not. Keep in mind the only interaction you two had was months ago, The rest was him beating the shit out of your friends. So you're horrified when he talks to like he knows you..

Thats when the realisation hits you.

You instantly start kicking and screaming in a desperate attempt to get out of his hold. JD tries to calm you but you do not listen anymore, He is the murderer that was terrorising your town.

Once you bite his hand and it relents, You beg for him not to kill you. You cry and scream for your parents, For him to let you go, For you to live!

JD doesn't understand why you're struggling so much, He knows he's not worthy to even touch you but he shouldn't be viewed like this! He should be your knight in shining armour.

JD knows that the people surrounding you have made you like this, Which is why he grabs the nearest blunt object, A lampshade, And bashes it over your head.

You instantly fall unconcious, If not too woozy to know what the hell is going on. JD catches you before you fall to the ground, Almost seeing it as a romantic gesture.

By now the commotion has alerted your parents, So JD throws you over his shoulder and makes his way back out through the window. Neither of you seen, No witnesses found.

This starts the domestic stage.

You wake up within an abandoned cellar. Its dark, Dusty, Cold and grotty. Spiders being common, Other invertebrates even more so.

The only things in there consist of debree, A makeshift bed of old blankets, A small box containg your belongings (And ones you dont remember keeping) and spiderwebs.

You try to get out but the old trapdoor keeping you in was in suprisingly good condition, And you had no tools to help break it down.

Its only hours after you've given up trying to break down the door, Huddled in the corner with your old dirty clothing does he finally appear.

You found out that he's keeping you in some old abandoned building outside of town that he so happened to have the key for. JD tells you that its not permanent, That he'll take you back once you've realised how shoddy the world is.

You of course, Are strong-minded and refuse to play in. But you can't fight back, Can't escape so all you can do is bide your time..

JD still goes to school to avoid suspicion, Making sure that nothing leads back to him. The outside world has deemed you a body they've yet to find.

When he comes home he always brings you your food and sometimes he brings you a gift too (Something that may help you escape). He also brings you a bunch of spare clothes too.

You're unable to shower since there is no running water anywhere, Your only source of hydration being the pack of water bottles JD brought for you.

JD only comes to see you before and after school, Him going home to sleep and him being in school are the only times he's away from you.

Whenever he is with you though, He keeps rambling on and on about his own plans. How horrid the world is but how amazing you were, Almost worshipping.

He also likes for you to give him physical affection, Him laying his head on your lap is a big thing for him. He'll force you to accept it too, Despite profusely apologising the entire time.

If the topic of another man or woman you particularly like comes into play, JD will instantly darken and get violent. He doesn't like it when you bring up someone other than him, You're his angel, Not theirs.

JD is unstable and might even strike you across the face for this, Not in control of his own actions. But straight afterwards once he sees you crying on the floor in pain. He instantly goes into hundreds and hundreds of apologies, So very sorry for harming you.

He won't forgive himself either, How dare he lay a hand on you?

If you do ever give into him fully then you will be let out of the basement. JD will forge a plan that would make it seem that you were held hostage/attacked, Lost and dazed (Depending on how long you were in there). Westerberg's police, Being underfunded as they are will not look into it.

You'd probably get back to school with a shit-ton of empathy and the man who found you, Now boyfriend, Hanging on your arm with a triumphant grin.

The only way I see you escaping this is to do what Veronica should've done and drive the fuck over to Seattle, Change your name and general appearance and never show your face in Sherwood again.

However if JD does catch you then its going to be messy. This man's violent tendencies will go on overdrive, He'll scream, Cry and may even kill you out of sheer unstable anger.

Of course if he does, He'd never forgive himself. So much so that he'd feel like joining you..

• Honestly? Daisuke doesn't care much about looks. All he worries about is your physical and mental health. And if you're happy then he's happy!

• But something about the clothes you wear that show just that right amount of curve makes him shiver at the thought of holding you.

• As for if you're ever just having a rough day where you don't love yourself as much as other days Daisuke will drop what he's doing to just come wrap you up in a blanket and watch some ghibli movies.

• Even if it's not self love issues and just plain mental health bringing you down he'll still drop everything to make sure you're okay.

• And no matter what, he supports you! Just so long as you're not breaking up with him or leaving him in any way.

• But if your family and friends are toxic let's just say digging up some blackmail on them with the help of his family is enough to fix those problems-

• And Daisuke will always make sure that you're eating good! While he can't cook for shit he does make sure you're able to buy food and stuff you need on a college student schedule.

• And if you feel uncomfortable qith him buying you stuff he does it in a roundabout way. He'll mention that he has too much or bought bulk of something by accident. Or he'll ask to come over to your dorm and come with groceries cause he wanted you to cook something for him since you know about his inability to cook. And if there's extra groceries he'll chop it up to being an accident-

• He also hates if you skip meals. How are you supossed to maintain your beautiful figure if you aren't eating right?

• Also can and will help you find stores that carry your sizes. He's good at looking for the right places and even goes beforehand to a shop without you just to make sure it's a good shop with an atmosphere you'll like.

• He's a big stalker so he works very hard to figure out your likes and dislikes. He wants to make sure you're always happy ♡

• He knows it's probably difficult being in a different country and getting used to the culture there, but he'll just make sure that you have the best time!

Quick warning: This WILL contain spoilers for the series. It’s nothing super major or plot twisty-The series is in its very early stages so it’s nothing that you wouldn’t find out by you know, reading the thing wink wink nudge nudge. However I would suggest reading it first so you at least have an understanding of it

OKAY THOUGHTS

Holy shit this series is so good. I’m not joking I’m looking forward so much for this series and how everything plays out, because I can tell this is going to be a really intriguing story and I’m excited for it. I would say the thing I’m most excited to see is the relationship between Shen Yuhua and Chu Tian. They’re just, they’re so sweet I really can’t wait to see how their relationship grows.

Okay I’m not really good with expressing my thoughts so let’s move on TO THE CRACK THEORY SECTION BABEY YEAAAH

Theory number uno: Tf is Chu Tian doing? I think it’s pretty easy to see, he’s trying to create an army against the Chaoyang palace. He wants revenge against Shen Yuitian and is only playing along with Shen Yuhua for now. But I think he either does really care for her or will grow to really care for her. So he’s trying to destroy the blood pact so he doesn’t have to hurt her to achieve his end means. And I bet Shen Yuhua will eventually learn to go this side

Theory b: Qiao Yu will join the group and become an older sister to Shen Yuhua. There’s really only two ways it could go down with Shen Yuhua and Qiao Yu, either rivals or sisters. I don’t really see rivals working out, cause Yuhua doesn’t really care, but for my own heart I could totally see Qiao Yu being a surrogate older sister to Shen Yuhua, which would be a great but heartbreaking parallel to her actual older sister

Theory 3 (the big one): Okay, let’s talk about the big mystery surrounding one of the characters. Not Chu Tian, not Shen Yuitian, not even Shen Yuhua.

Let’s talk about Swallowtail

First off: BEST BOY WE LOVE HES AMAZING

Now for the actual theory, Swallowtail is undoubtedly the biggest mystery in Doatf, he pretends to be a useless servant to Shen Yuhua but actively sabotages her chances of marriage, but also protects her with his life. Why? Why is he acting as such? In fact, in his introduction it is noted he was in fact a disciple but was demoted. He’s clearly skilled, why would he pretend not to be in order to be demoted?

It’s because I believe he’s working for Chu Tian, and always planned for Shen Yuhua to fall into the abyss.

What evidence do I have to back this up?

…..I did say it was a crack theory

Okay I do have A LITTLE to back it up. But it doesn’t start with Swallowtail, it actually starts with the second biggest mystery of the series, Wen Qinglan, Yuhua’s mother. We know her crimes, murder, but more important conspiracy and adultery with a demon. Why was Wen Qinglan working with a demon? I believe she was working to free Chu Tian from the abyss. Why? Because I said so >:(

Anyway obviously when Wen Qinglan died, the plot must progress and there had to be a new person to get a Shen into the abyss, and would you look at that. There’s a Shen who’s been completely shunned from her family that needs a servant.

This is why he had to sabotage Yuhua’s suitors, he couldn’t have her leaving the palace or else it would risk the whole operation. On top of that, remember how Yuhua’s older sister said that it was Swallowtail who pushed her in. Why on earth would she say that? He’s clearly devoted to her, and despite maybe Yuling pushing the blame on him, why would anyone believe that? He wasn’t even near the scene?

Unless of course, they already know he’s shady as fuck, or have evidence to show he’s shady as fuck.

I cannot stress enough how much crack this crack theory is based on. I am genuinely pulling strings and putting on tinfoil hats here.

But I’m having fun so I don’t care >:)

I do want to say just as a statement-I don’t think Shen Yuhua is some chosen hero. The abyss story is so clearly made up, and I do really think she doesn’t have strong magic. But just because she’s not strong or special in one area, doesn’t mean she can’t become something wonderful. And I just can’t wait to see what she becomes in this comic. I’m so excited for the rest

Kirisaki Shidou (MILGRAM)

He is a 29 year old man that wears black floral flannel t-shirts unironically and has the type of sadness in his eyes you only see in European BL comics. Also he's the equivalent of a fucked up pretty boy. I've dropped an actual explanation of who he is below (including a TLDR below) but if you don't wanna read any of that please know he has such autistic swagger. Also he has two songs and they go so hard. (Also linked below!!) He also canonically got kicked in the shin one time. He's also canonically trying to make friends with a child that hates his guts for being a doctor. Hes such a boyfail. I love him. [continued under the cut]

[continued] Oh dear, here we go! Shidou Kirisaki is a pathetic man. He had a wife and 2 or 3 kids (its been a while okay -._-.) that he loved dearly. While he was working at the hospital, he got news of his wife and kids getting into a car crash. (I believe, may have been another type of accident? I'm fairly confident it was a car crash, however.) He rushed there as soon as possible, only to find that his kids had died. His wife was the only one who survived, but she was in a braindead state and had some irreparable organ damage from her injuries.

Grief-stricken and desperate, Shidou devised a plan. Shidou tricked and manipulated dozens of families into giving up their braindead (or horribly injured) family member's organs (sometimes without their knowledge!) in order to use for organ transplants in an effort to revive his wife. Despite his best efforts, none of it worked. His schemes were eventually caught, but before he could face any legal consequences, he was kidnapped.

Shidou Kirisaki was brought to this prison called "MILGRAM". It was quickly explained why all the prisoners were there; they were all murders, and the guard had the job of deciding if they could be forgiven or not for their crime. The prison guard knew nothing about them, but would figure it out through interrogations and a special machine that exports the prisoners' thoughts and memories as music videos. Instead of being horrified like any normal person would, Shidou saw this as a great opportunity. When it came time for his interrogation, he begged to be voted guilty. He believed that MILGRAM would "give him the ending he's most suited for". The prison guard basically told him to fuck off, and after watching the music video, he was voted forgiven anyways. (Votes are casted by the fandom btw!! It was the fandom that voted him guilty, the prison guard is the in-series personification of us.)

The prisoners that were voted guilty ended up getting attacked after the votes were released, and 2 ended up horribly injured. Shidou's medical skills proved to be very important, as he managed to treat these 2 and even save one of them from certain death. Although Shidou begged to be voted guilty, the only reason he was able to save these prisoners is because he was voted innocent. Its cruel irony that made Shidou realize that maybe he really was important, that he did actually want to be innocent in order to help those in need. He's still conflicted at this point in the series, but it truly is refreshing to see him with a newfound self-worth.

TLDR: Shidou used to be a surgeon. After his kids died in a car crash and his wife was horribly injured, Shidou was incredibly desperate to get them back. Knowing only his wife was able to be saved, he started deceiving families into donating their ill family member's organs and trying to use them in an attempt to save his wife. Eventually, he was found out and got brought to a prison where his fate was to be decided by us, the viewers (although this was represented by a guard in-series). He begged to be voted guilty, not being able to forgive himself for the lives he'd destroyed. However, the viewers voted him innocent. It was only because of his innocent verdict that he was able to treat some prisoners who got attacked after the release of their verdicts, and he ended up realizing that his life was important to the survival of the prisoners. His story makes me so happy. The series is still ongoing, but seeing his faith get somewhat restored was so pleasing. I love him so much. Hes such a loser.

Don Quixote: We have her in Training, and she's worked with Meat Lantern, Fragment of the Universe, and Void Dream. Girl is weird and I love her. She'd be with the weird ones that affect SP, totally unphased by the weirdness or sanity loss. Let this girl hang with Rudolta or Shy Look and shit. Ryoshu: Either Disciplinary or somewhere funnier like Safety. She 100% has the Crumbling Armor gear. She'd also definitely work with Cherry Blossoms and Clouded Monk. okay as I recap this I am gonna try to navigate my emotions

Oh its the Fortune Arcana boss from Persona 3 but not as good! But the whole point is Sae's cheating anyway so it's not supposed to be fair or fun, that's fine. After proving she's cheating, she turns into her monster form.

She looks like if the SAW movies were a person, jesus christ.

Anyway, lets get to the meat of the situation; the big escape.

Even though Sae's treasure was stolen and the Palace Ruler has been defeated, the casino is not coming apart like normal. (Which is because the treasure they're taking is a decoy, but more on that later.)

And finally we return to the cold open, which admittedly: I fucking loved this. I love that nothing is changed at all, it's just the same sequence again, but now you have context for what the fuck is happening. Now the face the player can use their persona makes sense, now the presence of shadows in a 'real' location makes sense, everything comes together.

No matter how I fall on my opinion on this game, I have been convinced that Joker is the best protagonist of any of these games. With the unfortunate exception to the lack of Gay Options he gets, he is an enormous improvement from P4MC in every metric. I know who this character is, even absent my own input, and he's weird and funny and kind of a huge bitch and salty as the Dead Sea.

This sequence becomes such a victory lap. Like, I'm still figuring out how I feel about the Whole Thing, but this moment of handing the player control and going "Hey, remember this?" and letting them fucking RACE to the end in the hopes of finally figuring out what the fuck is going on, it's a pretty clever trick. /slow claps for the devs

Also: Kasumi has the worst mask of everyone in this game by far. Every time i see it I wanna give her literally anything else.

In the present, Sae offers Reverie a plea deal if he gives her the other Thieves. No go.

holy shit the fucking pancakes. Morgana was the one demanding pancakes when the team was talking in the hallway before the studio recording and Akechi walked in saying he heard something about pancakes. He couldn't have heard that unless he'd been to the Metaverse before. He's always known what Morgana's saying from the moment everyone met.

HOW DID I NOT NOTICE THAT

That's really fucking smart honestly. Like, I sussed out Akechi because I'm the audience and I know tropes and story structure so it absolutely had to be Akechi. (Also there were a lot of other hints.) But I'm happy there was a hard piece of evidence for the characters that was more concrete than "have you MET him, he's a murderer."

As everyone and their dog guessed, when Futaba grabbed Akechi's phone, she slapped one of her wiretaps on there. That part's easy.

After that is where things get tricky.

The last thing Reverie does as Sae leaves the room is convince her to take his phone with her and to show it to Akechi.

I am completely convinced that no one in this game has met the real Goro Akechi. Not Sae, not Shido, not anyone. That facade is made of four layers of reinforced cement and the windows are all mirrored glass. He's kind of the inversion of Adachi, who looked like there wasn't a since thought bouncing around in his vacant gaze. Akechi is nothing but loud thoughts, but the container is soundproofed.

Also, it occurs to me right here that someone is directing Akechi, someone has a hand on that leash, and I wanna know what the hell keeps Akechi from spinning around and killing that guy.

Anyway, Sae shows Akechi the phone, he's like ?????? whatever? and they part ways.

Akechi waltzes in, deep-sixes the guard with his own gun, and shoots Reverie in the head.

this entire chapter was a joy to read but I gotta say I 100% understand knives’ fear of brad—the opening scene was one of the most strangely fear inducing things I’ve ever read. kudos and 10/10 for making me feel nauseous over what turns out to be a very funny scene of knives getting murder-grounded

I'm deciding that this is a victory, because it gave you a great insight into exactly how Knives felt LMFAOOO. He has spent literally this entire story acting superior, holier-than-thou, won't shut up about how he's physiologically and mentally leagues ahead of you puny humans, you're so lame and pathetic and Millions "Genius Cool Guy Surgeon" Knives is soooo much better than you. And then the minute he goes home and sees his foster parents he is suddenly the goodest little boy who you would both introduce to your parents and give a doggy treat. They are two geriatric astronauts and Millions Knives is pants-shittingly terrified of them.

I was legitimately a bit worried that I wrote Brad as too harsh in the flashback scene, or uncomfortable-in-a-bad-way in the beginning scene. I was really careful with both. How Brad and Luida raised Knives is absolutely not a great method of parenting, lmfao. But they weren't really raising a child - they were taming a tiger. I think you can safely assume that Knives was not given a single inch his entire adolescence. He didn't get away with shit. That's how behavioral conditioning works. I really can't stress enough that, although Knives is a pretty good guy in the present, he is still the literal actual Millions Knives. And what 14yo Knives here got up to wasn't all that different from what canonical 14yo Knives was getting up to. The difference is Brad and Luida - and they knew exactly what they were trying to prevent. They knew they couldn't fuck up. They knew what would happen if Knives didn't change. It must have been a lot of pressure.

The sheer balls on the guy who walks up to Millions Knives and just goes, "Okay, asshole. Kill me. Do it.". So insane that it gaslights Knives into believing that Brad and Luida are the only superior lifeforms to himself.

But at the end of the day, what that scene still conveys is - it's a farce. Their family is a social contract: Brad and Luida will give Knives what he wants (a meaning to his life, and on a deeper level he won't acknowledge, a family), and in return Knives politely pretends that they are remotely capable of controlling him. A handcuff is an insanely restrictive method of grounding somebody - and obviously Knives could have gotten outb of it any time. But Knives lets them do it, because if he doesn't then it would break the keyfabe, the farce. And that would destroy Knives' only path towards becoming a good person. Because Brad and Luida told him that they are the only path towards becoming a good person. And if you aren't a good person you have no reason to exist btw. Also we don't love you anymore.

Kinda fucked up if Knives was, like, a regular child? Yes. Only sensible thing to do if the child was Millions Knives? Yes. It's complicated but that's why I really love it. Also for the insane funniness of Knives experiencing fear.

TL;DR Handcuffing your child to its bed is only okay if the child has bad vibes and is unfun to be around.

okok for the maple and sou question: so because maple wanting to kill him was kind of part of her programming as an obstructor, that wouldn’t really apply here, but that idea is still SO funny to me?? i’ll def have to doodle that at some point lmaooo

their dynamic here is actually really polite! i see them as being good buddies :) maple is one of the participants who’s closer to sou, because she very much wants to work together with the others and see the good in everyone. it’s very much like. “awwww what a nice guy!” and then the guy in question is plotting murder ahsjkskdks

just as an example:

although, i still can def see sou being a little bit scared of her, because maple very much can be scary when she wants to. she’s very opposed to the ideas that the death game perpetuates, what with suspecting and betraying one another, and so while most of her ire is directed towards the floormasters, she can also get pretty pissed when the actual participants try to trick each other. so…yeah, sou tries to stay on her good side and be a nice boy. but he also does genuinely think she’s neat!

for the shin and sou question: i wasn’t actually going to talk about the second main game for at least a little while, but im horrible at keeping secrets anyways and talking about this excites me, so why the hell not!!

so, while over time i’ve leaned less into the idea of a character’s “role” determining the actions they take (e.g. just because shin takes kanna’s role doesn’t mean he acts like kanna), the one thing i have stuck to is that when one character takes another’s role, they will always die at the same point in the story. i wanted to also incorporate ‘branching paths’ for ytr as well, because it’s one of the things that really sticks out to me about yttd!

…so yeah the second main game vote is either between voting for shin or sou (or technically ranmaru, but then everyone else would die). it’s vv tragic to me, because i love both of them </3 but i do what i must for angst.

i’m definitely going to give the main games their own posts (and almost 100% some art as well) in the future, but if you’ll allow me to get a bit rambly about shin and sou’s dynamic here and how it affects the main game, ehehe… ^_^

sou and shin at the beginning of the death game very much start out with ulterior motives. yes, they are friends, but they also gain something out of allying with each other: someone who they can rely on/who can vouch for them, which improves their chances of surviving. so they act all buddy-buddy, but there’s definitely tinges of manipulation going on from both sides (and while they realize exactly what’s happening they still acknowledge that this “trade-off” (both literally and metaphorically lol) is a good deal for both of them)

but throughout the death game they end up getting a lot more comfortable/vulnerable with each other, and soon enough they realize they really care about each other (really, they have the whole time). and this obviously complicates things because them wanting to protect each other throws a wrench in the whole “every-man-for-himself” ideology they’ve been preaching.

so, kind of like kanna, sou tries to get the sacrifice card during the second main game trading phase, but he does it with the intention of having him and shin escape together. …he does not actually get the card because the cards get swapped by gashu (there’s different reasoning for why they’re swapped this time but i’ll get into that in another post as well probably). hence, pain.

i envision the end of the 2nd main game being almost a screaming match between the two as they desperately try to convince everyone else to “vote for me so he can live!” (sort of like the shin and kanna vote but even angrier) (because kanna is a sweetheart and sou is Not) (it’s horribly ironic as i’d consider shin and sou the two characters with the strongest survival instinct in this cast, yet they are both driven to self-sacrifice here)

okok uhhhh sorry for the long tangent as you can see i’m evidently insane about these two’s dynamic in this au! ANYWAYS this vote is a lot different from the shin & kanna one because no matter who ryoko votes for as the tiebreaker, the one who survives will be PISSED. and by god they try everything to make her life a living nightmare in chapter 3 (because. being ryoko is suffering)

he's a high level wizard (lapsed) he's the BEST OLDER SIBLING YOU CAN HAVE* (*some terms and conditions may apply) he has an EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ROCK (pebble with eyes he drew on; its name is Geoff [short for "googley-eyed fucker"]) he's SLEEPING WITH THE PRIME MINISTER (prime minister equivalent in the world) (yes said prime minister is married) he's even DEPRESSED

okay jokes aside i fucking love him. i want to eat him. i want to turn him into a gumball and gnaw on him. i want to shred this motherfucker into a fire and see what happens. more under the cut because this got WAY more long than i expected it to KSJFDH

mechanically, he's level 4 rogue (subclass pending) / 2 warlock (undying subclass). by subclass pending, i mean that i picked one for him, but quickly realized i didn't like that rogue subclass very much, and now i'm going to see if i can find one that's a little less underwhelming and thematically appropriate

he used to be an extremely high level wizard (subclass also pending, but it's not super relevant now, so i'll do it laaaaater), because he was essentially the in-universe equivalent of a career tribute from the hunger games (AKA trained from birth to win Dogfights For Children). unfortunately, these Dogfights For Children were for specific children, AKA his family and some other families.

second unfortunately: he has an identical twin sibling.

third unfortunately: shaoyuan is a fucking tryhard.

a sane man and sibling would hear "you need to murder your twin, repeatedly and brutally, for the good of the family and its social status" and go, what the fuck??? no!!!

shaoyuan is not a sane man nor sibling. he goes hard and never home. he's either giving 100% or he's fucking dead. if you give him a target to aim for, the rest of the world will cease to exist, as far as he's concerned.

shaoyuan turned himself into an avatar of fear and terror, and tortured his fellow-aged peers (twin included) just so that he would have the psychological edge in all these Dogfights For Children.

his preferred method of destruction? acid. to quote one math you mercer, "only the most fucked up of assassin's kill their targets with acid!"

i agree, mr. mercer. that's why i made him do it 😊

anyway, the Dogfights For Children start at age 11 and end at age 18, and by the time he reaches the end, he's figured out, "oops, i'm kind of an awful person!" especially because that doesn't stop him from still going fucking hard and melting people to death that last time (even if the fear in his twin's eyes has haunted him for years now).

and then he goes home, sets his spellbook on fire, gets an accountant accreditation and bounces so that he can avoid his twin and also all his own psychological trauma forever thank youuuu

the world is post-apocalyptic, so you have bastions of society in major cities, then outposts leading from one to another for semi-safe travel purposes, but generally speaking, leaving the cities is a Bad Idea for most people. shaoyuan quickly becomes very good at stabbing (rogue) in order to not get killed by the post-apocalyptic monsters.

as far as society is concerned, he was like, an up-and-coming young wizard with a lot of talent and potential, and then he just fucking... washed out! he just fucking flopped! he's some mediocre accountant that makes the stupid decision of making his career depending on wandering out into Apocalypse Central! all his coworkers thinks he's nuts and/or gonna come back in a body bag (if at all!!!!)

meanwhile, his twin (shaoquan with a q) is doing pretty good 😊they went to college, then law school, and is now a full-on lawyer! they've also gone to fucking therapy like a reasonable person and is working on... you know, all the terrible things that's happened to them, as opposed to repressing it, and is doing pretty decent now in all respects.

meanwhile, shaoyuan is going on his tenth year of being the gold medal champion for the Trauma Repression Olympics TM, and recently just almost drowned in a river. this is significant, because the drowning was successful. he just didn't die, because a god fished him out.

this god is also his great great great (x a lot) grandfather.

yes, this is news to him too.

it turns out there's a whole lot of shit going on in the divine side of the world that he previously wasn't privy to, and now he is. because he almost died. and while he was busy almost dying, a spiritual manifestation of regret merged with him while on the boundaries of life and death, and now all his regrets are Literally haunting him, and have given him a turbo trauma chicken Second Forme (also known as the undying warlock's Form of Dread) (thank you trigun fandom for that phrasing. i'll never forget it.)

oh ym god shaoyuan is like a traumatized washed-up danny phantom.

anyways, his great (x many) grandfather tells him he should try and get unfused with this shade. which, considering shaoyuan's coping skills start and end with "conceal don't feel" is not going. great

so, shaoyuan has two older sisters he doesn't really talk to (also twins). he also has a twin sibling he definitely doesn't really talk to.

most importantly, he has two very, very baby siblings (also twins) that he dotes on, that he would do anything for. and it haunts him, because he knows exactly what "anything" means for him. it means anything. that k.a. applegate about the definition of ruthlessness? yeah. he doesn't let himself have true goals anymore, because he knows that if he lets himself slip, he has no compunctions about doing heinous shit, as long as it brings him that much closer to achieving his goals.

however. his baby siblings, nianxiu and nianping, the babies of the family (they're like 17-18 years younger than him), are on track to be shoved into the Baby Dogfights blender, once they hit age 11.

and he's not going to let that happen. that's the sole thing keeping him tethered to this plane of existence, basically. "i won't let that happen to them." it keeps him going, and he's been using his connections between cities to arrange things to get them out safely, before their turn at Baby Dogfights can happen

and i cannot fucking wait, because shaoyuan is going to go full "caleb at the vergesson, crunching guards into naught but flesh and mush with gravity magic" in order to get them out

i just love me a character who seems one way on the outside (tired, depressed, washed-out once-prodigy, spineless babysitter) turns out to be infinitely More on the inside AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
